The long lost daughter of the Lu Family had been found!

She was abducted by human traffickers for more than ten years, her life was ruined.

When the Lu Family first saw her they felt that something was not right about their daughter. They didn’t dare to ask why her assets were not developed. They only hoped for her to be happy

Lu Wan lived like a weed. She became a 17-year-old punk. She was even registered as a “male” in the family registry.

Then one day, suddenly, she turned from being a drifter on the street into a daughter of a wealthy family.

Lu Wan felt very good, she just wanted to be an ordinary girl.

To study hard, spend her years peacefully and not engage in any quarreling or fighting.

After some time, the seemingly guilt-ridden family members and those bystanders who were waiting on the side to ridicule her when she made a joke of herself, all felt that there was something very wrong about the situation.

The family found me disguised as a man for 17 years and thought that I was pitiful, but they were very wrong.

If it was just about how much I enjoyed the characters, this would be a 5-star review. I like Lu Wan, her entire supportive family and her friends.

This set of characters are likeable and would have had great potential if the narrative was a bit more cohesive in a way. However, the more you get into the story, it started feeling like there’s barely any plot... which was unfortunate because it was such a fun read until it started becoming dragging.

In my opinion, the extra chapters also didn’t do a... more>> lot for the novel as a whole. Overall, would recommend this novel for when you just need a light read. <<less

First thoughts upon reaching the current chapter 8, 'Aw, f***".

Entertaining is the word of the day. Nice word flow, funny and interesting twists within just a couple of chapters and an overarching sense of 'what the hell is happening'.

This is a really fun read. No dog blood drama, weird misunderstanding, adopted child versus real returned child cliche and so on.

The story itself doesn't have any major plot development nor character development to speak of, but inevitably draws you in to continue reading. Why? Because all the characters are so damn enjoyably. Even reading about the villians are fun. The protagonist is just amazing, the right attitude, the right ethics and her relationship dynamic with the people around her is what draws you to keep reading.

What I like the... more>> most about this particular novel is how progressive it is with minimal gender stereotyping and the casual manner it dealt with homos*xual characters. One of the things I noticed about most chinese novel is how it sometimes is low key misogynistic and/or homophobic. Especially in school settings, where when someone comes out of the closet, the entire school treats them as monsters. I always found this weird because though there might be quite a few opposition, most people especially the younger generation now are more accepting regardless of certain country's laws. This novel though doesn't really touch upon this subject nor has the leads be anything but straight, has the right attitude towards the subject. Which I greatly appreciate. Another point is that though this novel starts off with gender bender, how it treats the protagonist's acceptance towards feminising and realising to become openly female was logical. I like the fact that the author took the time to show the progression of the protagonist from feeling weird wearing skirt to later becoming confident in them. Also I enjoyed how the protagonist though adamant about her gender identity being female, didn't find it necessary to deliberately feminine herself and just acted casually without restrains of acting as a "girl/woman".

And the protagonist's brother. He is the most lovable character I've read in a while. This novel is worth reading just for him. The dynamic between the sibling is humorous and the hightligh of this light read. <<less

It's a great story, our heroine is kickass, cool and handsome, while also being charming and smart enough to go against the braindead villains.

This was a chill read, no dog blood drama. I actually liked the calmness and attitude of FL (Lu Wan), she's considered as strong and straighforward who was book smart and street-wise combined. She might be an OP but didn't bother me too much bc she deserved the love she's getting. She got sad and difficult past as young kid so she deserved her new happy life.

Also, almost all supporting characters were likeable (except OG Leads and Zhao Family). FL's family and friends were so funny and ML (Chen Nianqing)... more>> was also perfect for her.

Only con here was some parts became really boring... many chapters were dragged (like joining contest/variety shows) but ending was rushed and last chapter failed to satisfy me. This could better shorter than 143 chapters.

Also, I disliked...

Spoiler

It felt like author added ridiculous details on last chapter abt Li Che sudden rise to being rich. It's obvious just for the sake of sequel (*face palm*).

Laughable that Lu Family need to seek his help in investment. When Uncle and LuWan already planned counterattack on Zhao and Jiang family on earlier chapters.

This is a really great light hearted read! I love that MC is street smart, book smart, but bad with interpersonal relationships and that the romance takes time.

There's a really nice diversity in the cast of characters and there's no one that feels out of place or super annoying.

Great translation from Shanghai Fantasy too!

I usually like slice of life novels but this one I am giving a pass.

I did not like the MC in this. She is said to be incredibly smart, and able to see traps and schemes quite well so also street smart. But reading until I dropped, I thought she was an idiot. I am guessing she is written as innocent and positive; but the things she is oblivious, or things she chose to ignore hoping it will go away really felt scuffed.

BEWARE of SPOILER

The book had a total of 143 chapters with 132 translated chapters free for public reading while the rest can only be accessed after paying a fee. And because I'm broke, I found the MTL for the rest of the chapters. It was bearable because I understood the gist of it.

Spoiler

Lu Wan's maternal family cooked up a plan to force her mother into giving her wealth to them, and during the act, lost her. She was sold by her abductor to a couple who wanted a son. Upon finding out she wasn't a boy, her foster mother decided to raise her as a boy. Growing up with an abusive foster father and a pushover foster mother taught Lu Wan to be strong.

She was then found by her maternal family who never gave up on cooking those evil plans. However, her paternal family managed to intercept and Lu Wan returned to her biological family. Because she grew up in a rural area raised by incompetent foster parents; her scholarly father, businesswoman mother, businessman uncle, idol brother, and leisurely cousin, did not place any pressure on her. As long as she grew up happy and carefree, she could be and do whatever.

[collapse]

The book was funny and had some recurring themes. One example was the flat-chested Lu Wan vs the pectoral muscles of Lu Buyu. Both siblings were born androgynous and so because of their chests, Lu Wan was known as President Lu while Lu Buyu was known as Young Lady. There were some discrepancies in terms of age. So, at one moment Lu Buyu may be 25 and at another moment 22.

Spoiler

One thing to note was that after Lu Wan went missing, her maternal family adopted a girl her age to replace her. Do also take note that Lu Wan's mother was the only one in her maternal family with a brain. So, she rejected the girl and yet still treated her nicely because it was not the girl's fault. Anyway, this girl and Lu Wan were in the same class. At first, the girl had some clashes with Lu Wan but, after a while, their relationship cooled off. Their relationship could be described as 'I won't hit you when you're down but, I won't help you either'.

It's a pretty lighthearted story which made me laugh a lot of times. Truthfully, I came here for romance, however, the romance here is rather subplot but I'm not that dissatisfied (fine, I am slightly dissatisfied). If we're going to make a pie chart for this story then it'll be 50% bickering between Lu Buyu and Lu Wan, 30% is about the white lotus and her harem, 10% romance, and the remaining 10% is others simping over the FL, ML, and the FL's silly brother.

Tbh, I have no problem with... more>> the FL's character design. In fact, it's not that she doesn't care if someone moved against her, she's pretty straightforward, isn't she? When her cousin moved against her, she immediately retaliate. When the white lotus or any of those s*upid associates of her and Jiang Boyang attack her, she solved it immediately. It's not her fault that those s*upid people always liked to associate themselves with her. But either way, the FL is dense, smart, hardworking, optimistic, straightforward and sometimes cute (especially when she's trying to be feminine). I quite like her actually.
Spoiler

But I'm still baffled regarding her adoptive father's death. Did she or did she not killed her adoptive father?

[collapse]

Meanwhile, I don't have many comments about the ML because he wasn't given enough exposure. But I think if he's given more exposure, he's also quite an interesting character. From the few screentime of his, I can deduce that he looks cold, aloof, and indifferent to others but as a lover, he's actually quite clingy and possessive. So for the romance, it wasn't also given enough time so I'm lacking sugar. But I think it kinda make sense as after all, the romance started during high school and both of them are pretty much the same age so there's the youthful passion of first love but maybe the author feel like she/he can't be too passionate about the romance between two high schoolers.
Spoiler

But what I'm dissatisfied the most is that there's no scene of marriage or when they have a child. Dmn. The white lotus' ending was even more detailed that theirs. At least we know who married the white lotus, what happened to their marriage, and her son. But the FL and ML doesn't have that ending. Too unfair.

[collapse]

As for the supporting characters, I'm torn between choosing who's my favorite. Is it the flashy and self-proclaimed green tea jerk, Haley? Or the silly, white sweet brother, Lu Buyu? Fine, I'll choose the latter. It's because I think there's more to the character he's usually portraying. He's always like the silly son of a landlord, however, from all those memories and nightmares he has, it can be seen that he still hasn't completely moved on from his sister's kidnapping incident. There's guilt, sadness, regret, longing, and fear. Totally different from his carefree attitude. As for Haley, well, he's funny and interesting. He really has a high EQ and him being an old driver with yellow waste in his brain made his character funnier. As for Su Rao and Xu Yao, too bad their ending wasn't mentioned. The moment they clashed, I already knew that it's another ship lol. And lastly, I'm actually quite interested with the FL's parents' romance. I bet it'll be a domineering female CEO x poor beautiful scholar.

Now, regarding the ending, I am really not satisfied at all, There's quite a lot of loose threads.
Spoiler
    • For example, what was the response when the variety show was broadcasted?
    • What happened to the Lus that prompted the FL to abandon her lawyer career (like detailed info)
    • Did Lu Buyu manage to resolve the knot in his heart? Who did he end up with?
    • Did Su Rao and Xu Yao really end up together?
    • So, what happened to Jiang Boyang and the white lotus? Did they end up together again and abuse each other with so much toxicity again?
      [collapse]
As for the plot, well, it's pretty simple and there's really not much going on here. But that's why I kinda enjoy it. It's just light, relaxing, and devoid of complicated schemes and whatnots.

The ending was pretty much abrupt, and it just ended with how the supporting characters' miserable dog blooded romance but how come their ending and family was mentioned while the FL and ML's wedding and children weren't mentioned?! However, Li Che's story is this story's sequel. But I'm not sure if it's really a sequel or it can be a stand-alone novel with a shared universe here. Maybe their ending will be mentioned in there and married whom will also be mentioned but I'm not that interested in reading that, so my questions won't probably be answered.

Overall, it's pretty satisfying to read since it's lighthearted and funny. Although the romance is lacking, the funny bickering of the siblings made up for it. As for the translation, I just read the MTLed version of the last 40 chapters however the translated versions posted in here were quite good. As usual, there's quite mistranslated pronouns, mainly between he/him and she/her. But it's still quite excellent.

It's a 9/10 for me.

P.S. I kinda skimmed some parts of the so-called sequel of this story and rather than calling it a sequel, it's really more appropriate to call it a stand-alone novel with shared universe. <<less

Not bad but not good🌝🌝 It was interesting during the first 40-50 chapters but got boring. It just felt tasteless (╯︵╰)

That ml's friend though, Zhou or Zhao something guy, what was his problem? It was okay at first but it seemed as if his only reason of existence was so question 'if the house collapsed'? He seemed biased to me? Like can his idol not fall in love? At one point, I even thought he was gay and was in love with the ML or smth. It got annoying,... more>> seriously. His only appearances were with ml, I even forgot who he was at times. And only remembered after he questioned 'Has the house collapsed again? A unique tomboyish MC and less dominant ML. ML is by no means a pushover, but he is really more gentle compared to MC, hence MC seems to be more dominant most of the time.

MC and her bro interactions are very cute and tbh, The highlight of this story imo.

Ori MC and ML is very braindead and doesn't matter at all.

it’s more like a 2.5

I love slice of life usually but this one was rather mediocre... Usually you see progress but after the 50 chapters every other chapter was anecdotal? It didn’t seem to serve a purpose or progressing the story in any way. It was probably 50 chapters too long. I had to skim through the rest of the novel. Mtl is easy.

I'll give this a three. Am I the only who felt depressed reading this? Like I'm seriously considering why this happened? Her family interaction somehow feels forced and also not healthy in my mind. The siblings bickering actually frustrated me for real. There is also the ML uuuurgh I'm totally annoyed by him, also other characters as well. Now my heart and my mind were in total mess after reading the novel.

I enjoyed reading this, although the ending was quite abrupt. The ML rarely appears and you don't get much moments when MC and ML have alone time. It's a pity that MC and her brother did not become sweet to each other. (They are close to each other though) The brother has a sister complex and you'll pity him a little because no one comforts him when he is the one who most longs for his sister. Sadly, MC is too headstrong and just quibbles with her brother. The MC... more>> is never coquettish. Plenty of people like MC, but there's really no love rival for ML because MC puts studying above anything else.

My favorite character is definitely the gay bestfriend, Harry. <<less

Ok so far I like our FL character. However,

Spoiler

the person that her biological family sent is really rude ti her just because she’s rude and when her friend stood up for her he actually got the guts to say they are the ones who are rude which piss me off (ok I don’t know how to put angry emoji here yet but imagine there is one so you can tell I’m angry)

3.5 rounded up to 4 because it's mostly good, it just gets a little too boring with a lot of repeated lines and unneeded passages.

The concept is the standard "missing daughter returned to family" but the family (as a whole) is a little bit different than the usual rich family. The mother is the domineering CEO, the father is a weepy (occasionally) genius scientist, the older brother is a super-celebrity (who inherited none of his parent's intelligence) and the paternal uncle is a super-businessman (who may or may not have... more>> been in the mafia).

The MC is the missing daughter who has lived her life as a man due to her adoptive parents (or owners technically because they bought her from s*avers) wanting a boy. She grew up tough because the adoptive dad was regularly drunk and abusive while the mother was incredibly passive. To make money growing up, she did a lot of random tasks and quickly put her all into school as she could get a scholarship and eventually leave. Upon returning to her biological family, she quickly begins to excel at her new school but never loses her edge from a hard life.

The ML is... not really a love interest until the end. A genius student, he encountered her one day at a hospital and fell in love at first sight. Only to never see her again until she transferred to his school. After that, he was fine to wait for her as she had no interest in dating. However, he eventually tricks her into a fake relationship to prevent others from pursuing her and his presence gradually grows on her.

We join the story as someone comes to get the MC to return her to the family. Only for it to be revealed that this person is from the maternal family and hadn't informed the MC's parents which results in our first introduction to the family problems the MC's family has. From there, she returns and takes her place as well as quickly usurping one of the top academic spots in the grade. She quickly sorts out the marriage contract (which was really just a verbal agreement) but has to deal with many people thinking she's a guy. That quickly ends when she wears a skirt (and proceeds to beat three guys up) but the girls in her school are still obsessed with her.

The antagonists in this are never there for very long. While the original-FL and original-ML had more staying power, their overall affect on the MC's life was almost non-existent. They interacted but their problems were almost all solved within a chapter or two. Once they leave the school, we never see a satisfactory end to them (the extra chapters give more closure but it's still lackluster).

Spoiler

The Original-FL refuses to let the Original-ML move on and he's too s*upid to realize that she is the worst thing in his life. Because of her, he got expelled transferred from a top rated school (he was constantly skipping but still), ruined the potential of a lucrative marriage contract, destroyed his already shakey relationship with his mother, and wrecked his chances of being a successful businessman in their home country. He gets her pregnant (not 100% if he was aware) but his mother sent him abroad and was going to practically sell him to a wealthy woman for benefits so the Original-FL made a point of letting the other woman know he had a kid.

All while the Original-FL had already married someone else (who then got a divorce because he apparently developed IQ points).

This is all revealed after the novel ends so it's kind of 'eh' at that point. It's also not the first extra so it feels even more lacking.

[collapse]

The MC's interactions with everyone were entertaining but it felt like a lot of the same being repeated over and over. Her deskmate was entertaining but he'd be horrible to have around if he was a real person. Same with the other two who were obsessing over her.

For the most part, I did enjoy the story but I found myself skipping whole chunks of the last chapters because it just got too boring. <<less

Marking this novel.

The MC's top priority was to look feminine or good and does not really care how others plotted against her.

On the other hand, the author's main concern was to show off how unrealistically wealthy her family was but they cannot afford to hire someone to alter the MC's skirt so she does not have to pretend to be a boy again. Does that make sense?

This is basically a story written by either a run in a mill author or a complety untalented one with a few loose screws... more>> to boot. <<less
