In a Mary-Sue novel, the readers all liked the Devil Venerable, the second male lead who devoted himself whole-heartedly to the female lead. However the female lead only loved the male lead who abused her physically and mentally.

Readers: Why doesn’t the female lead like the Devil Venerable?!

Devil Venerable: This Venerable also wants to know. But what I really want to know is why I even like the female lead at all.

It's a must read novel..

I've read many of cultivation novels where protagonists are like supreme creatures.. Their powers are often illogical and exaggerated.. This one ridicules them in such an interesting way.. At first it was quite a light read, then gradually becoming heavy..

All the questions are answered.. At least I couldn't find any plothole till the end.. Moreover it has a gong protagonist, which is like a jackpot to me..

This was so good! I’m usually not bery good with cultivation novels, but this was well paced, the author was amazing writing 3 different story lines for one book! And I absolutely love all the character. 5/5

Read this!! I SAID READ IT PEASANT!!? It has everything! Love, friendship, character development, nice sense of humor AND SEx- um wait this is shounene ai damn it! It doesn't matter it has ALMOST everything, heck even the plot is mind blowingly good! So why aren't you reading this already go on shoo and stop rereading the same unhealthy smut- I mean romance, It's bad for your mental health!! ≫: ((

It is honestly a perfect novel. The main characters are all likeable and have good character progression. The romance is steady and beautiful. The plot is interesting and all major points are resolved. It has comedic elements, angst and romance.
In my opinion, it may not be a world changing novel, but it is steady and I have no points I could criticise.
Can definitely recommend.

Such a good book. My face hurt from laughing the whole time I was reading. This author does justice by the female characters—with the exception of the story within a story that this book satirizes, I never felt like the female characters were treated like props for the male characters' development. I was impressed by the world building: the implications of cultivation for ordinary mortals was some nuance I wasn't expecting. The whole conceit of this book is that Wenren É has insider knowledge, which makes it incredibly fun when... more>> you as the reader get to see through his unreliable narration how much he's not realizing.

I'm a sucker for the love martyr trope, so I was obsessed with Yin Hanjiang from the start, but I was pleasantly surprised that Wenren É started following this trope without even realizing he was in love.

Simply amazing.

I agree with another reviewer, Wen Renhe is a human. I like author potration of his character as a whole. Not as the usual demon king, but a human who coincidentally rule a demon realm. I like and support his view and therefore actually enjoy how he develop and deal with matters.

Aside from the amazing characters and individuals that author show, the plot is stunning. There's a lot of things going on but instead of getting confused, I enjoy reading it.

Not only that, the relationship that blooms with time... more>> is also making you feel all warm and fuzzy. I also like how author make the MC and ML walking together, solve one problem after another with the support of each other, and we are there when both of the party discover new things about each other. Not only that make you actually care about their relationship, you also start to root for them. It also doesn't annoy me that the relationship is so slow to develop because I enjoy how the story and the relationship develop.

Definitely a good read. 1000/10. <<less

finished the whole novel in one day. The character development, the plot, the mysteries, it's all written so well. The extras rly tied the whole thing together, and I got literal chills reading ch81. An amazing novel, def recommend.

There's so many reviews here that I'll keep mine short while adding to the pile. WRH is probably one of the most well-rounded protagonists I've ever read. He has the answers but he doesn't have every answer, his world view is developed, there's no soul-searching or aimlessness in his characterization but at the same time he has real character-growth. The author has also managed to layout the ideas of cultivation in such an easy to understand and yet lovely way that it's truly one of the best xianxia novels I've... more>> read. The plot line was by far one of the most enjoyable things about this story.

But while this was a great read, it feels like the author gave more effort in developing WRH and the Dao/plot line than she did the romance part. The slow building romance was fine but the climax was a bit abrupt and really quick.

Regardless, this was a wonderful read and I truly loved both WRH and how well the author utilized and explained both cultivation and the cycle of destruction and rebirth. <<less

Wenren E is such a great lord and his views on the main players of his demise make a great juxtaposition on why you should never judge a book by its cover. We get a somewhat tr*shy cover for this novel. An unremarkable-looking book also falls on his head and that's how the hijinks begin as he tries to redirect Baili Qingmiao and avoid death flags. Baili is very frustrating at the beginning which is on purpose and made to foreshadow the bigger picture within the story. Wenren E and... more>> Yin Hanjiang have plenty of sweet scenes together and it's an enjoyable slow burn watching their relationship evolve from boss-subordinate to lovers. The 80 chapters had great pacing and a couple of subplots to follow along. If you're looking for a cultivation novel, this isn't it. The author is known for conspiracies and dropping hints in her novels, and it's quite fun to see it unfold without thinking too hard. <<less

I think of this as the counterpart to SVSSS. If the former was about OP male novels then this one talks about the ridiculousness of some het novels where the main female character keeps suffering and being abused but still declaring her love for the male lead.

It's an angsty yet very funny novel at times as the main villain discovers his world is a novel and he sets out to understand the female lead and why she behaves like an idiot! XD

There are various sects, cultivation techniques, secret books, and... more>> magical items. The supporting cast is great and diverse. Our main couple of the villain and his devoted sect member also get their happy ending. There is a steady plot and character development.

Definitely recommended. <<less

I read Morningcrow’s translation and it is excellent

This story is unique, it isn’t a harem, it isn’t a typical danmei, it isn’t even a typical wuxia, but it is fun

The secondary characters are wonderful, and the MC and ML have actual character growth AND there is actual growth in the relationship when the MC and ML learn more about each other, which is refreshing

I loved this story and highly recommend it

I didn't think much of it reading the summary but when I actually started reading it, I couldn't put the novel down. It kept me awake at night because I wanted to know what happens next.

It's a rewriting of a harem book while some awaken to the fact that the story is preordained and written in the pov of the main protagonists but in the hands of the side characters.

I felt the characters actually came to life with this one. No one dimensional cannon fodder and, cheap face slapping to... more>> be found here. They have dreams, aspirations, some shameful, some righteous but also multi-faceted and with relatable motivations. I also especially enjoyed the fact that the original fem MC of the book wasn't treated like forgotten garbage and actually developed along with the plot as well! I even grew to like her and along the way too!

The side characters didn't lose out either. They stood out on their own. The romance felt like a slow burn and it was just nice and sweet towards the end when they finally meet in the middle. Sighs. This was a really good read. <<less

Quite a complex yet pure novel. Despite some characters being glossed over, I think the main ones were explored very nicely, and the logic for many things were reasonable. I do wish that the “villain” had more depth, but the point kind of is that they don’t have much depth, just the illusion of heroism. The ending was also sweet.
