A pure gold... You don't know why? Then read this! Tired of cultivation Whatnots or not, I believe the appeal is the same. The plagiarism god is here and he will make you grin nonstop!

I previously thought that My Disciple is already the best chinese comedy out there but now I know that the real superstar of comedy and plagiarism is Zhang Ye. I now announce that I'm a member of Zhang Ye's Trolling Army. XD

I was hooked on this series and quickly binged through over 200 chapters, so I can safely say that it starts strong and that it has some good points. It's funny at times, and it has a unique premise, which always helps a series stand out among cultivation novels that all seem to have the same description. Unfortunately, this novel also has serious flaws that only become more problematic and annoying over time.

To look at the series' premise of "becoming the master of plagiarism" in a charitable light, it can... more>> be thought of as an author's toast to great works that are "worth stealing". I like that it introduces me to fields I don't know anything about, like classical Chinese poetry. Ancient poems aren't usually the sort of thing you want to see attempted by an amateur translator, and it could definitely use a quality pass at times, but the translator sometimes makes use of existing translations of major works, and I like reading them.

But as a story element, the plagiarism stops being amusing, and it becomes hard to have any respect for the main character. He seems completely satisfied with the vain pursuit of fame, even though he's becoming famous for things he didn't even create. This sounds like the setup to some cautionary parable, but the author plays it completely straight and has no idea how lame it is.

The "reaction/public commentary" chapters are also extremely formulaic and tiring, and you'd probably have to be as irrationally obsessed with fame as the main character is to want to hear a dozen people on weibo talk about how they don't think he'll do nearly as well in his newest endeavor for the millionth time.

It's also dissatisfying how often things just work out in his favor, without him doing anything clever. Nothing ever comes back to bite him in the ass. So far nobody's ever been reminded that he originally "wrote" his first poem in Russian, and nobody's ever tried to speak to him in Russian or otherwise put his lies at risk of exposure. When he needs to reference a piece of culture, it just happens to exist in both worlds already, and when he needs to steal it, it doesn't. And everything just works out so he's able to put his skill points to use, even though he spends them like an idiot. (If you've read any of Terror Infinity, where the stakes are extremely high and the author puts a lot of work into planning and foresight, you might notice that it's the complete opposite on this point, though I largely dislike TI for other reasons.) I like heroes with cheat powers but they need to be competent. Zhang Ye is terrible at using the lottery wheel and merchant shop available to him.

Worst of all, the author's Chinese nationalism is extremely irritating and racist. 95% of the foreign characters have been idiotic strawmen who are too afraid to debate him. Every time I would start getting into some new story arc where Zhang Ye gains a hundred skill points in computer hacking or whatever, it meanders back into another excruciating arc where he throws a big tantrum at a foreigner, or is otherwise completely unlikable in public, yet ultimately ends up gaining more popularity for it.

The author seems to have the brain of a child, given how the crowds always play along with his transparent fantasies. They laugh until they fall over when Zhang Ye tells an okay joke. When Zhang Ye says something that the author believes, they give him a standing ovation and retweet his weibo posts (or whatever). And apparently Chinese racists are the same as American ones, because there's even the cliche where Zhang Ye is considered "the only one brave enough to tell it like it is" and "isn't cowed by political correctness culture". I would have probably overlooked this stuff if the series was otherwise amazing, just as I can overlook moderate propaganda from Chinese authors who have to answer to Chinese censors, but it just keeps on coming, and it's so tiresome. Not really the kind of story I want to read. <<less

Writing characters unreasonably really does not make for a very good story. Time and time again the antagonists are introduced, being some of the most irrational people with the most childish views and behaviors. But then again, our very MC behaves this exact same way. However, he's too much a f*cking idiot to even realize what he's doing. Hell, somehow his goal is to be an international superstar, despite the fact that he is probably the most xenophobic person in existence. It seems like he truly hates each and every... more>> single country that isn't China. It irked me every time that foreigners were introduced, cause the author really had no idea how to portray their culture properly. People behaved in polar opposite ways than should be expected, and of course, this was PURELY done so that the author could justify Zhang Ye's blind hate of them.

For someone who's become famous due to no feat of his own, he really is one prideful, egotistical, boastful maniac. There's literally nothing for him to be proud of. Yet somehow, he still sees everything he plagiarised as his own accomplishment and goes around "scolding" other people for their bad works or the like. Zhang Ye could be an interesting character if the author intended him to be seen as this maniac who's lost his sense of reality. But trust me, he's not. It's not ironic, it's not on purpose, the author is just... Bad.

Not to mention that Zhang Ye is one of the biggest hypocrites in the universe. He criticizes other people for being shameful without even realizing that he himself is the most shameful, vile, despicable character in the whole story. Bad things are only OK when Zhang Ye do them. And honestly, how the f*ck did the author think it was a good idea to make him seem like a ret*rded man-child who burps everytime he eats?... I mean damn, he's even a typical Xianxia MC who can't ever take an L, even when he is slightly or somewhat in the wrong. Nonono, he's a s*upid moron with a warped sense of morals so he will never bow down, cause guess what? He doesn't ever think that what he did was wrong. For someone who has so many means available to him, surely he could resolve a situation differently than attacking someone and his bodyguards?

Then there's the godawful plot armor in the story. I mean Jesus Christ, just recently Zhang Ye was thinking that he needed to upgrade his Lucky Halo because his luck wasn't good enough. A few minutes later... He wins an upgraded Lucky Halo with a Lucky Wheel spin. It's just too convenient... Everytime. And damn, all the f*cking luck stuff is ret*rded in the first place anyway. Why doesn't he just activate his lucky halo and lucky bread at the same time and then proceed to throw the dice? After he got the 5x difficulty reduction why didn't he throw another die? I don't f*cking get it.

Also, I really can't see how it will work out with all of his abilities in the future. The dude knows waaaay too much for any singular human. Oh shit, you were bad at math all your life, but suddenly you just solved a mathematical conjecture? Great job dude that totally makes sense. Oh?... You were calculating everything instantly in your head while doing it as well? Yeah okay... We're not going to ask too many questions, I mean, we'll do a short dig but that'll be it, don't worry about it. LIKE HOW THE f*ck? I don't wanna be seen as a conspiracy theorist but man governments would be abducting him for sh*t like that.

And then there's the fact that the story just isn't very interesting. It reads like one of many shitty Xianxia's where an arrogant antagonist who can't see Mount Tai (Urgh) just won't stop. And there'll be 9587 more iterations of this same antagonist, but slightly different, to come. Everything in the story is repeated constantly with a slightly different packaging to it.

The fact that I even read 558 chapters of this makes me want to kill myself. But hey, it's one of the first novels I ever started reading (And dropped), and the nostalgia of that was enough to make me constantly pick it up again, only to drop it 50 chapters later. It's been a long ride but I'm truly done this time.

Oh, and as a final point. You f*cking dumb commenters almost made me want to kill myself while I was reading this novel. I even had to hide the comments through CSS to escape your delirious views. You're blindly defending everything Zhang Ye does even though it's clearly bad writing, bad character design, bad plot, bad f*cking everything because this author's only skill is wish fulfillment. So you f*ckers can sit and jerk off in your room all you want but f*cking hell get the f*ck away from me and never let me see you again. It's incredible how many of you dumb f*cks exist. This novel has a goddamn preposterous 4.1 rating! <<less

This was by far one of the most disappointing novels I've ever read. It started off with some decent ideas but they all went to sh*t because the author simply wanted to insert random xianxia tropes to make it more appealing to a wider audience.

As someone who really doesn't care very much about racism, I was genuinely surprised by how much this book contained. I've read some seriously s*upid sounding novels with content like this and they are all on the same level. They portray Chinese people and culture in... more>> this holy light and disparage people of other races. I understand that the author has to blow his own horn about how great Chinese people are to make his audience feel better, but the s*upidest part about doing this is the situation his protagonist finds himself in. He isn't exactly recreating Chinese blockbusters is he? He's ripping off classic Hollywood films wholesale and finds time to disparage Americans. It's almost a meme at this point how ironic it is when you're blatantly plagiarizing intellectual property from a country you feel is lower than your own to make your protagonist seem absolutely godlike in the eyes of the people.

I feel this goes over most of the audience's heads and a maybe even the authors. News Flash: If Chinese culture and cinema is so great, stop ripping off stuff from other people and use only your own sh*t. See how far you get then. <<less

This novel is about as repetitive as "library of heaven's path", but without that special thing that somehow makes it interesting and funny nonetheless, the writing is quite inferior and it's just boring to read all the copy-paste text. First of all, reading a novel by a chinese author set in modern day society is never a good idea, the novel is full of blatant racism and excessive patriotism. I usually don't give a crap when the authors show some small bits of their shining patriotism, like ignorant statements in... more>> xianxia novels or other things, and I can ignore quite a lot, but this author goes on a rampage against people that aren't from china. I guess, in his eyes, everyone but the chinese people are inferior humans that deserve to be insulted as he rants on with ignorance to an extent that is unbelievable, he's probably trying to make up for an inferiority complex or something. That people are actually translating this perfect example of a waste of time is beyond me. <<less

I have to amend my previous score of 5 stars. While it is unfair to say that the protagonist is completely talentless, all the boons of his second-life are the results of plagiarism. In the early arcs, that alone is not at all something I would have damned the protagonist for. He is sharing legitimate works of literature and art, and reading those genuinely bolstered my appreciation for Chinese art. However, as time goes by, it becomes clear that the protagonist is not just a vector for sharing art. Zhang... more>> Ye is a hypocrite, a lecher, a glass-heart nationalist, and overall scumbag. If he were put into a position of power without the game system, he would most likely behave like the bosses he takes face away from.

As the story goes on, the stereotyping of Americans, Japanese, and Koreans is matched only by the way he stereotypes Chinese figures of authority (be it managers, monks, or educators). It simply isn't reasonable for everyone Zhang Ye meets to be as pig-headed and ultra-nationalistic as he is and reflects badly on us Chinese. You don't need to be Alexander Pope to see the author is projecting his own insecurities and worries onto both Zhang Ye and all the antagonists.

Worse of all his storytelling just becomes a redundant formula. I forget who said this about show business, but the adage goes, "You can be bad, but you can never be boring." All politics aside, "I'm Really a Superstar" gets boring.

Spoiler

I read up to chapter 800 via machine translations. Rereading it properly, it really does make you want to kill Zhang Ye. By this point, everyone across the spectrum is on the up and up and know Zhang Ye is full of shit. But when he starts plagiarizing from gaming apps like Plants vs Zombies, where day one Chinese reviews of the game actually exist, it truly shows you how full of sh*t this author is. Chinese people did not react this way to this game. Neither should there be a wave of racist head up the ass patriotism for Zhang Ye's "achievement" when Chinese PC Game Devs have made legitimate successful games. He is just insulting the hard work of actual Chinese people.

Even if you aren't tired of the same old xianxia/xianhuan/wuxia genres, this novel has a really refreshing feeling because it is so different. Instead of constantly leveling up or physically fighting off cliche enemies, this novel is without a doubt a comedy with a fantasy element (the special system that helps him become a superstar). I'm really enjoying this novel and I hope that the translator will keep releasing chapters!

Chinese propaganda probably. With how much he puts down other countries and tries to raise China up, I'm assuming it is. But he's pretty racist too and is surprised when people are racist towards him.

He's also a s*xual assaulter. Somehow he ends up with beautiful women alone because of MC luck and then he starts putting his hands on these ladies even when they tell him "no" and "stop". I also feel like my experience with women dropped with how low quality his interaction with women are. He's so childish... more>> in this aspect which is good because otherwise, I'm pretty sure he'd r*pe one of the girls. All his potential love interests are also busty and curvy but all in different ways. Somehow this normal looking guy can only get with these model-like gorgeous girls.

He also really petty and responds in the most childlike manner to criticism. Somehow he offends the industry so badly he has to move on to a new industry. He's had like 6 different jobs in half a year and I feel like he'll keep getting a new job every month. I'm pretty sure people like that wouldn't get a stable job. There's no way a company would not be held partially responsible for what he says while working for them. Not sure anyone would be willing to give him a chance with his history. <<less

I really liked this story in the beginning but as it dragged on, it got really boring.
Spoiler

He stopped using his lottery skill as much. Instead, he just buys the same stuff. And the story feels as if it's on repeat. The main character is always offending someone yet the author then gives reasons as to why the offended person was in the wrong. And then the main character will scold the person publicly and ruin their career/life and the author justifies that they deserved it by giving reasons. But it just gets dull that it's on repeat. He just keeps offending more people, they are somehow in the wrong, and then he will scold them publicly over and over and over again.

It was fun at the beginning, but after some chapter, we got the same pattern again and again.

Plus the "strange" relation with women. Plus the racism (i stopped when the MC got a Korean singer beat up by a mob, principally because he's korean).

My bad, it's not racism, as the MC tell us over and over again, it's nationalism xD

... more>> The funny thing is, the MC keeps telling us about how Chinese are the best, but he is only doing plagiarism.

The irony is delicious, but I thing the author is too dumb to get it. <<less

I subscribed solely to write this review for this novel.

I've been putting up with it for a long, looong time but this time it's too much. This novel is funny, original, it's really nice... but the MC is so racist it's really making me wanna puke. Like, really. All the time. Against the Korean, the American, the Japanese, the European... He is a nationalistic, "China is the best country on Earth" and so on...

Anyway, a real shame as the novel was good otherwise.

I've always thought that only Xianxia books can become really bad after the initial stages. But IRAS has proven me wrong. At first it had a really refreshing story and the execution was also above par which made it a fun read. But I don't know if the author became c*cky after the initial success or what, but it just started spiraling out of control.

I can understand someone having patriotism. It's good and healthy but IRAS takes patriotism to a whole new level. It just starts bad mouthing other countries,... more>> makes subtle racist jokes and after sometime the MC's perversion becomes unbearable. Let the lady sleep peacefully would ya.

In Xianxia books we see how the side characters are jealous and angry at the MC's OPness but we can't relate that much with them because we don't know how to cultivate (hopefully). I'm good at studies so I know perfectly well how hard maths is and seeing Zhang Ye just proving Fermat's principle which should've been proven by someone capable and deserving and not this cheating lying B-.... as I was saying it started triggering me so bad. If he wanted to be a superstar just stick to the entertainment industry or something, just making him dabble in everything is plain annoying.

So my advice to you when reading this book is that hopefully you are Chinese (even they would find it hard to tolerate the bias) and not to read past some 200 chapters for your health's sake (you'll really feel like puking blood). <<less

First of all, I've been one of the many anonymous daily readers here at NU for the last four years, Regular as in Daily, and in all these years I've never once commented on ANYTHING. Whether I liked it out not. So this makes my first time posting a review.

This novel is freakishly awesome. Palgarizing crime made to look cute. I'm no lawyer so whatever. It starts of OK, with MC palgarizing stuff from parallel world to fight against his fate, then for his fans and so on. It picks... more>> up momentum with the MC turning smarter and better. And then it's the chance for Ying. As if changing Authors, or author having faced something life changing in RL, it turns into a story where the MC becomes a Hot Head and Extremely Patriotic (as in Overbearingly) and gets into fights with every possible Non Chinese.

Spoiler

A guy who could take care of a plane full of terrorists is unable to outargue a couple of Japanese professors and resorts to such a method, picking fight with EVERY NON-'C' national person is a bit of a let down

[collapse]

The most Astonishing and Fear inducing thing is the Author's ability to make the reader himself justify for the MC, even for the most Degradatory work done by him. Anyone binge reading the novel won't find anything out of the ordinary. But try and stop reading after reaching Ch. 700 for a couple days and then start again. You'll see what most people mean about this story bring a let down. All of this is the reason for my 1 star rating. Oh!! And here's to hoping that my profile doesn't get hacked. XD <<less

This story has a great premise that most college grads can relate to. A newly minted graduate with a major in radio broadcasting has to break into the competitive world of radio entertainment as a radio host at a national radio station in China, while his ultimate dream is to step onto the world-stage and become an internationally recognized entertainer.

So far, so good.

But there's a twist. The MC wakes up one morning to find that reality as he knows it has changed, and a great deal of literary and broadcast... more>> history has been altered. While no one else recognizes this change, the MC does. This gives him an advantage over everyone else. Namely, he can use his knowledge of critically-acclaimed material that no longer exists in his world and package it as his own, original work. Also, for some reason, he also has access to a gambling system where he can spend points that he earns from fame gained through actions in the real world for the chance at receiving items and skills that boost his abilities.

Sounds like a pretty good premise, huh? It absolutely is for a few dozen chapters. Then, however, a number of systemic issues crop up and are magnified as the novel progresses.

Where the MC's otherworldly insight is concerned, the author fails to use it creatively. The MC doesn't use his knowledge of unknown works to synthesize new content, nor does he use this knowledge in novel or unexpected ways. Instead, the author utilizes this unique aspect of his novel in the laziest way possible: the MC uses his "power" to plagiarize his way though the whole story. The author also benefits greatly when the MC applies a misappropriated poem or story as a solution to his woes. Those poems and stories vastly inflate the word count of each chapter. After all, why create original content when you can just copy and paste your way to a payday?

And speaking of the gambling system that he has for some reason. In 540 chapters, the author never touches on how or why he has this system. Even the MC just kind of rolls with it, rarely questioning its origin. It's just a lazy trope used by the author. Oh no, the MC needs to do X, but he can't do X. That's ok. Deus ex gambling to the rescue!

Now, let's discuss the virtues of the MC. He spends a large part of his time sexually assaulting and philandering his way though a troupe of disposable, one-dimensional female characters who are rarely seen outside of their role as fodder for the MC's greatness.

I'm mostly done talking about what an awesome person the MC is. At this point, let's switch gears and talk about how the author handles the overarching structure of his novel and how the novel progresses between arcs.

In the second arc, there's a bit of a nationalistic bend to everything. That's nothing new for a Chinese LN. After the second arc, though, everything goes totally of the rails. There are different ways to write nationalism into a work. There's the good way -- showing hard-working Chinese people prospering through their own efforts; and the bad way -- writing everyone who isn't a Chinese nationalist as a raging douchebag that must be destroyed by the virtuous MC. Take a guess which method the author uses. If you guessed the bad, lazy method, you'd be right. What's better is that that nationalism evolves into blatant and rampant racism as the novel develops. It also gives me pause for the MC's aspiration of becoming a world-famous entertainer. Why on earth would you want people in other countries to care about you if you hold everyone who isn't a Chinese nationalist in such contempt?

When I read a novel, I expect to see the MC grow and adapt to overcome adversity. In this novel, the MC does none of that. Instead, he adopts a scorched-earth policy where he just bungles his way through different entertainment industries while burning nearly every bridge along the way. In most every situation where the MC could just step back for a second and cool his head, he instead castigates anyone who so much as sneezes in his direction. This happens time and time again, with results ranging from him being banned from some industries to outright imprisonment. Despite all this, he never grows. He never learns from his mistakes. He is a completely static character, which makes for a very frustrating reading experience.

Add to this the complete lack of a coherent plot, and you get a truly maddening novel. The author uses a cookie-cutter style of plot tropes to advance the story through each arc, but there's not really all that much that connects the arcs. There is no overarching plot development. The MC does the same thing in a different setting, but there is no growth. No advancement. No, well, anything.

Here's the premise of every arc:

  1. MC is in entertainment industry sector X.
  2. Incumbent industry faction suppresses MC after MC does something audacious that should have gotten MC fired.
  3. MC goes on a rampage against incumbent faction.
  4. MC makes headlines for his audacity but is ultimately fired because MC is an ass.
  5. Rinse and repeat 11 times, and you're at chapter 540. That's where I stopped.
So, what's to like in this novel? Well, the first and second arc are pretty good. If you stop after the second arc, you'll find this LN to be a real gem (minus some weird borderline-r*pe stuff that happens). If you're like me, however, you'll find the sexism, racism, lack of plot progression and character development, and the use of lazy tropes and writing strategies employed by the author to be a thoroughly soul crushing experience after those first two arcs. I read all the way to the beginning of the 11th arc in the hopes of recapturing what was so great about the beginning two arcs, but I found the 11th arc to be just as racist and infuriating as the previous 8 in only its first chapter.

While my opinion of this novel and its author is less than stellar, the same can't be said for the translators. Mad props to Legge and CKtalon on their translation of this LN. Almost every chapter has a lot of old-timey Chinese poetry and literature quotations. The research and quality of translation of those sections is outstanding. <<less

I'm from Brazil, my English is not the best, I use novels to improve my English while reading, so I'm sorry if I have the wrong things of what I'm going to write... I'm using Google to review this.

I'm good at reading English, I understand 90% of it, but by writing I still have some problem... I've never done a review of a novel... Not as complete as what I plan to do here. Normally I would not do a review because of this problem, if I use Google Translate... more>> people who read may not like it, but I need to do for that particular novel.

This is because I see many bad comments about this novel... People who have misjudged this novel... I need to help even a little.

Anyway, I'm Really to Superstar parts that I really do not really like:

    • Extreme Nationalism
    • Racism (by the author, i'll explain)
    • Communism
Explanation (Extreme Nationalism) :

I have no problem with nationalism itself. I like it. It is very good to love your country and your people. But in life everything that is too much is bad, and this also applies to nationalism. Loving your country makes you blind. We always have to pursue the truth...

Racism (by the author) :

In "Foreigners vs. Chinese" it happens several times during the novel... THE AUTHOR ALWAYS MOUND THE HISTORY SHOWING THAT THE CHINESE ARE RIGHT AND THE FOREIGNERS ARE WRONG. From time to time he puts some "the Chinese are a little wrong here" so even if people understand this racist part, it can soften things up a bit.

Communism:

Like I said, I live in Brazil. I do not know if communism here and Cuba are the same as the communism of China that the author speaks several times... I only know that I and many people here in Brazil hate communism to the bone. Since 1920 communism has filled the patience of the people here in Brazil... They have delayed much the development of our country. Now, thanks to them, we have a huge amount of taxes, the bad guy is seen as a "victim of society"... We are just one step away from entering the civil war because the communist revolutionaries here just want to know to burn tires on the Road and Break Shop Window... So I HATE Communism and Socialism. They only delayed Brazil... As I said, I do not know if the communism here is the same as that of China... But the fact that the protagonist of the story is socialist in the vein, sometimes it pisses me off.

These are the things I hate about this novel... But I ignored everything.

Why? Very simple. This novel is very good. Do you know what it's like to stay 4 days without doing anything but just reading a novel? If you do not know and read several other novels, this can only mean that the novels you have read are not good enough. But I'm Really a Superstar? I stayed for several days just reading, I even had problems sleeping because in my head I kept turning...

This novel made me too stuck. I read and did not want to know anything, but just read over and over again.

So here are the parts that I think are good about the novel I really am a Superstar:

    • Multiple Industries
    • Perfect Protagonist (I'll explain)
    • Good Industrial Transitions
    • Good Heroines
    • The development of the story is very engaging
    • The author prepares the ground for things to happen
    • The author does not exaggerate anything
    • The author is very good at plotting the story.
    • The path of Zhang Ye is different from all others
Multiple

Industries:

An hour is radio, then switches to Internet Television, there goes to teacher school, computer, calligraphy, math, composition, movies... This shows the best of several industry, which makes the novel diverse and not keep it the same thing all the time.

Perfect protagonist:

What do I mean by perfect protagonist? I mean, it fits the story perfectly. I saw in a comment someone saying that he is proud and lazy... Proud? He has always been humble in front of people, in fact he is very humble yes. He only boasts in front of the people he likes, like his family or close friends. But I think this is bullshit... The author made a joke anyway, because I think his true personality is humility. Even because you can see, he never said there: "Ah, these poems are mine, I wrote them at the time..." He always makes people believe that is so, but he does not say it in the face...

That's because he knows he did not write these poems. And he simply uses them to express what he wants to express. He is never proud to have written poems, or have created such a brilliant show...

Lazy? He spent more than 10 hours recording on the radio, on television... even in the last few chapters, when he spent a whole week without sleep and eating right to be able to film the movie as fast as possible... And that's being lazy ? He is ALWAYS working at his job.

The comment also said pe*vert... Dude, what's the problem? Being a little pe*verted? All men are. It's normal.

Good Industrial Transitions:

The way he changes industry is always epic... He always gets fired or he gives up... Or he does something very extreme... It's always exciting and interesting.

Good heroines:

The women the author has put as an option for romance are all with unique personalities...

Rao Aimin: Even though she is an extremely toxic person with her words, her heart is extremely soft. A person who up to her always curses Zhang Ye, when he got sick she was taking care of him all night.

Dong Shanshan: School Girlfriend... The author has not done much about her yet, but she's a very sweet girl, but she always lies whenever she finds it convenient... And neither do parents know if it's true or lying hahahah

Zhang Yuanqi: To people she is a kind woman, but she is really extremely cold... And of course, even if she is cold... She is still kind in her own way... The author has not yet developed enough, even if it showed up a bit until...

Wu Zeqing: In my opinion the best heroine. She is kind, sweet, elegant, smart... But the most important point, that I have always loved in her... is that she always believes in Zhang Ye. She always believed him... When she called him to become a teacher, he accepted, and the first lesson he gave was about a taboo in the world of literature... And yet she did not even care and let him do it. That he wanted to do... She is an extraordinary woman in this respect.

What I do not understand is that the author never makes the point of view of women... I think it would be interesting, but that's okay.

Development of the story is very engaging:

I spent HOURS reading this novel... It's just very interesting.

The author prepares the ground for things to happen:

Sometimes he can mention one thing in a chapter and only happens the thing several chapters later... Or just several chapters are developed later. That was not even that crosstalk competition. Who realized that well before starting the competition the advertising appeared 2 or 3 times during the story? It appeared as some of the characters were in front of the television and passed the advertising

... I realized this and thought, "Something will happen on this crosstalk contest"... And all this ban happened... And Zhang Ye entered the contest... Very good. Not to mention the biggest of all that happened was the Big Saber Bro... I at the beginning of the story thought it was the author creating a name randomly... And it all happened with ZhangYeNumber1Fan... And then I remembered that there was only 2 fans who had the nicknames shown... That was ZhangYeNumber1Fan and Big Saber Bro... So if the Number1Fan appeared, surely Big Saber Bro would appear in the future... There was a part of the story that I myself thought: "Only Rao Aimin may be the Big Saber Bro "... It's so much your face. And in the end the bastard of the author put another person to be hahahaha

The author does not exaggerate anything:

The author could have put a lot more math books to Zhang Ye... He only has if I am not mistaken from 140 to 150 books... And I doubt that this amount of books is enough to solve this theorem there. He had to use the memory capsule to remember... The author could have given more fruit to increase his size... Remember that he now has 1.71... It's not exactly loud. It's really too low. At first when the fruits appeared, I thought the author would find a way to show more fruit as the story continues and in the end the protagonist would be 1.80... But the author did not. I think it was his conscience, after all, if he increased 10 cm from one to another... Or at a time when the protagonist could no longer grow, it could be meaningless...

Or he could have given more fruit in his voice so he had an incredible voice... But he did not. At least not now. I think he will find a way to put when Zhang Ye start his career as a singer... Or could give more books to act for Zhang Ye to be the best of the recent movie he made... But no, he is just very good, but maybe not as good as Zhang Yuanqi or the guy over there who forgot the name...

The author is very good at plotting the story:

That's the same thing I said up there, I'm just going to raise this for the novel as a whole:

The author plans romance perfectly. He probably made a plan with the most important features and is simply jotting down the details. He is also very good with these details.

The path of Zhang Ye is different from all others:

The author has already written this, I am also putting it here too:

Most super stars are singer and actor... They only do this and win lots of fans... But Zhang Ye? He's almost a celebrity B, but has he ever sang? Has he acted already? Only recently. And he was not even in a leading role... He does radio shows, television shows, he makes poems, he solves math theorems, he writes books... He does a lot of things. And it achieves the desired effect. And that's important... Show that he does more than one thing very well. And I think only doing everything he can get to his dream is to be the biggest superstar in the world.

Finally, I'll talk about the translation:

I do not even need to comment, right? I am Brazilian, I am not fluent in English, but I was able to read 600 chapters in English and I understood 90% of everything easily... ONE GREAT TRANSLATION.

A very good novel, interesting and funny... Why have not you read yet? <<less

The novel is horrible, if you must, read until things start to repeat itself.

The concept is that the MC gets transported to an alternate world where most of the media is completely different. That sounds cool right? Imagine going to a world where Jurassic Park didn't exist, but there are so many other works for you to explore! OK so basically the MC gets the power of a Gamer, which has a lottery function. This lottery is basically the impenetrable plot armor of the MC whatever he needs in... more>> the next arc is given to him. The MC goes on to become a celebrity, using his plot armor he gets memory capsules which allow him to remember a certain book, movie, or any form of entertainment.

Since, none of the books or movies are in this alternate reality he goes and copies those books into this reality. To be honest with you this should have set off alarms in my head, but no I kept reading. The MC goes on to become a superstar, copying famous books and getting praised for it. The people that he "face-slaps" are the most shallow and petty people you can ever imagine, they will steal candy from a baby and try to justify it.

The things that annoy me the most about this sorry excuse for a main character is that he is; greedy, gluttonous, pe*verted, prideful, shameless, slothful, and overall a disgusting human being. Don't even get me started on his parents, they take money from their son, f*cking brag about him like he's a god, and being a disgrace to parents.
The characters that interact with him have only two emotions, it's either jealousy or encouragement.

Even in one chapter he ate a whole bunch and f*cking burped in front of the neighbor lady, like WTF that is absolutely disgusting. He even slept with her, thinking about how nice her legs were... I still don't understand the appeal of this story, the MC is absolutely unbearable for me.

When I try to ignore the pig, the story starts to have holes. When a person comes up with a book and a lot of people read it, you are not a celebrity already? He even f*cking saved an airplane from a hostage situation in a plane and piloted it! A normal person would be congratulated by everyone for being a hero right and become a celebrity. Nope he is still a low class celebrity, WTF? He even written and directed his own TV show which had a whole lot of viewers and copied a song in which an S-Class celebrity sings. The reading choices and personality of the MC should determine his absolutely disgusting existence...

Then I finally noticed that this was just a self-insert, this is what the author dreams to be, a pathetic piece of shit. He wishes to be smothered by beautiful girls but his disgusting life doesn't allow him to do so. This is a fulfillment novel for him, this is everything he is not. <<less

I had High expectations for IRAS and its protagonist, Zhang Ye, given all the recommendations, but man I was disappointed.
First, what got me into this novel was its supposedly "golden" comedy, but it was... meh. The times I laughed during 300 chapters could be counted on both hands. I suppose if I knew Chinese, the novel would appeal to me much more; this is not to suggest the incapability of the translators, but that it's nearly impossible to relate to some aspects of the story unless you're a Chinese... more>> speaker (I.e: poetry, poetry and other forms of poetry.)

Second, the novel has the usual s*upid audience and s*upid antagonists. It's like your usual xianxia, but instead of some silk-pants disciple fighting Zhang Ye using fists, it's some s*upid figure of higher authority who must have some problem with our protagonist. This happens EVERY SINGLE ARC, and it gets frustrating. I would liken it to the antagonists in Wdqk, but that would be an exaggeration. Still, the s*upidity in IRAS is not far from the s*upidity in that novel. The people in this novel, generally, are idiots. They refute Zhang Ye for making bad poems minutes after praising them, just because some "experts" said Zhang Ye's poems are bad.

Finally, some things in this novel make absolutely no sense! Authors and poets act like kids, saying Zhang Ye's poems and novels are bad. The problem is that this occurs in their verified accounts. Where is the professionalism? No where to be found! Just compare that to the situation in real life and you'll realize that this novel is a satisfaction novel. Moreover, if things were to go by real world standards, he would be the one of the most, if not the most, famous person worldwide. Here is an example,
Spoiler

while being a highly controversial person, he saved a plane from being hijacked by defeating the kidnappers (who surprisingly didn't have any sort of guns! Totally realistic) by beating them in hand to hand combat, then going to ride the airplane by himself because the pilots were unconscious. Yet, he still is not widely known!

[collapse]
To top it off, Zhang Ye doesn't have a single but of creativity. All he writes is taken form his previous world. In this sense, he is not different from Lin Dong Of WDQ in that the instrument (the game ring in IRAS) is vastly more important than the character. Anybody can replace Lin Dong and anybody, with some good knowledge of literature can replace Zhang Ye.

I believe that this novel could have been written in a vastly better way. But the author ruined it with s*upid antagonists and illogical development. <<less

This had potential. The premise behind this story is that the MC is in a parallel world, with the assistance of game-elements he must overcome his natural ineptitude and mediocre appearance to become the most famous person in this world. Why? because that's his dream. The concept of game-elements in a realistic world is actually pretty interesting and I can see a better author making it work somewhere down the line, but for now we're stuck with this.

My major problems with this story are similar to everyone elses;

  1. MC plagiarizes for a living. I don't know why the author thought this was a good idea, he's living in a game why not let him create some original content... Oh right, the author himself couldn't come up with anything original. Ok, no big deal, original content isn't easy to come by so it's understandable that the author resorted to this and it's still readable.
  2. MC is a thirsty virg*n. This guy has zero ability to interact with females in any way outside of being acquaintances. The literal moment a woman gets remotely familiar with him he will sexually harass her.
  3. MC is racist. Straight up, I can understand being proud of your country and everything but disparaging other nations for no plot significant reason is a poor decision.
  4. MC offends people for no reason. This guy has no brain, he will "scold" literally everyone the moment they say anything bad about him then steal a poem about not being petty and being above such things...
  5. The deal-breaker of this story for me was how he can plagiarize anything for money and refuses to operate out of China. I guess only China is worthy of his plagiarizing talents.
I will say that I admired his temerity, his ability to stand up to his superiors was actually the main selling point of this novel to me. His boss screws... more>> him over, he gets them back and comes out even richer. That's awesome love that bit. Hate the part where he magically draws the ire of everyone and everything for the sole purpose of being able to scold them with plagiarized poetry.

Translation is good though. <<less
