Sang Yuanyuan transmigrated into a sadistic romance ancient fantasy novel, becoming the male lead’s ill-fated beautiful white moonlight that died early.

The male lead loves her, the male supporting character loves her too.

The female lead was injured and broken-hearted because being loved, trampled and abused by all men for she had a face that was similar to hers. The relationship with male lead was full of twists and turns, tortured between life and death, and finally had a Happy Ending.

Sang Yuanyuan : “I’m sorry, I 一 first don’t want to die, second don’t want to be abused. So I choose to run away with the villain. Excuse me, goodbye.”

The villain squinted his long eyes, with a lazy posture and lips smiling like a spring breeze——

“Beside me… is nothing but hell.”

She contemplated for three seconds.

“Does the hell have land?”

“… There’s a wasteland.”

“Does it have water?”

“… Only blood.”

He wants to see her panic and lose her head, waits for her to scream and escape, but after blanking for three seconds the woman’s eyes instead shine faintly.

“What a good opportunity to try a new variety!”

“…”

He who always lingers in the deepest darkness, has never thought that there would be a person who can fill a whole wasteland with flowers and grass…

The main characters‘ interactions are awesome. Their relationship is cute and feels 3d not shallow, plot is interesting and keeps attention focused, pity no smut lol, but the ML and MC are mature and know what they want, no fussing and no 3rd party can come between them. I dunno about the writing but their relationship after they got better acquainted made reading the book worthwhile if you like fast paced action with a mystery thrown in and a cultivation world that’s not what it seems.

3.5, but.5 isn't available so, yeah sure, 4. The story is good and there is enough mystery to make me continue reading it. However, I am giving it a bit of a deduction because of how the story was cut. I know the translator might have been busy and could only translate a few parts and wanting to upload immediately for readers, I could totally understand that. Don't get me wrong the quality of the translations are very good, I just have a problem with the way it was cut.... more>> The chapters have been split into to way too many parts I fail to get immersed in the story and my brain just stops comprehending it completely and the mystery elements of the story which I originally liked made my head ache more. Would have loved it more if the chapters weren't split like that or if it was split into 2 or 3 parts only instead of 6 or so parts <<less

4-4.2 stars - good but some flaws prevent it from being completely satisfying from beginning to end.

Pretty good read without being spectacular. It's generally lighthearted and fun (despite characters being mu*dered left and right).

The comedic tone is the best part along with the morally grey CP and their relationship. It was an entertaining take on the transmigrating genre (although with a slight twist) and the world-building was pretty decent.

... more>> The negatives: Around 2/3 into the novel it starts to become kind of repetitive. It follows the structure of:

CP flirting/being h**ny for each other - solving mysteries and being badass and smarter/more cunning than most people around them - leveling up and becoming insanely strong - more flirting/sexy times - rinse and repeat.

Also I got kind of tired of the whole revenge plot - while the CP did eventually end up solving the whole world-threatening problem, and most characters acted relatively consistently with the overall threat that could wipe out humanity, it was a bit bizarre how many innocent people had to die just so the ML could get his revenge. I get that he obsessed about it and everything, but since the MC was so level-headed, shouldn't she at least have questioned whether it was okay to drag so many innocent people into the revenge plot? All the poor soldiers just became cannon fodder whom no one cared about when they died. Couldn't the main characters have focused more on solving the general world-threatening issue first when they became aware of the scale of the problem - and then focused on revenge afterwards? It worked out in the end and everything the CP did turned out to be for the best in the long run, but that seemed to be a little too neat of a solution to what was actually a major moral problem. Especially because the ML and MC weren't really bad people despite how ruthless they were towards their enemies.

And what happened to the ori!FL was actually really horrifying, I'm not sure if it happened because she was someone that men would automatically fall head over heels for (except the ML for some reason, he was always immune to her), but it was so terrible that

Spoiler

Sang Yuanyuan giving her a whole righteous speech about how she had the wrong attitude was needlessly cruel - the girl was dumb for sure, but she was kept prisoner and r*ped repeatedly by a demon and forced to carry his child. Mercy-killing her would be enough at this point.

[collapse]

And I didn't really understand why the CP felt compelled to go after the ori!FL and ori!ML again and again. Shouldn't they just have left them alone and focused on saving the world and getting revenge against the people who had harmed the ML?

The positives:There were many engaging and fun characters. While the general characterizations didn't run that deep and many characters were a bit shallowly written, most where relatively interesting.

The MC: quick-thinking, smart and capable. In the beginning she latches on to the ML just to stay alive and get away from the lecherous f*ckboy ori!ML to escape the fate of being abused or dying (what automatically happens to the ori!FL's love rivals in the original plot), then has to figure out how to handle the somewhat deranged ML who seems intrigued with her but who's also a mentally unstable guy who seems likely to kill her. All the while she focuses on becoming stronger in her cultivation to fend for herself, and when she falls for the ML, it's a gradual attraction that deepens as they fight demons together and she gets s**ked into his quest for revenge. Before she knows it's happened, she's no longer acting around him but has fallen for real. Partly out of sympathy for his tragic past, and partly because he's extremely sexy, brave and smart and also respects and supports her.

The ML: He's a fun character, arrogant and a bit conceited, but also a shy and inexperienced guy in the beginning who pretends like he's cool and experienced with women (the MC sees through that right away lol). He provides a lot of the humor that makes the story enjoyable, especially his shamelessness once he gets used to being loved by the MC.

The romance: it's a gradual process and the author even has one of the side characters commenting in a meta way about how the romance is lacking because there are no misunderstandings and breakups or other stuff that can hinder the CP's love - their relationship progress naturally from a push-pull in the beginning to gradually falling in love while they're pretending to be into each other - the romance stemming from having similar mindsets and values as well as mutual physical attraction.

The MC is quite proactive in the relationship, and it's fun to see how they are both super thirsty for each other (fighting demons and enemies is basically their foreplay most of the time). Their first time together is pretty funny too, which the ML having problems living up to his own expectations despite having already bragged about it.

The side CP were a lot of fun and I wish they had played a bigger part in the last half of the story, the way the SFL fell for the SML was hilarious.

The last 1/3 of the story was too much of a power fantasy without much depth, but the extras were quite nice.

The ML's mom

Spoiler

meeting her daughter-in-law and pretending to have amnesia to stay in the other world with her cute husband was pretty funny, I wish she had played a role in the actual story since she was an interesting character, unlike the evil empress who was just kind of there.

[collapse]

I loved the second extra where

Spoiler

the MC in an alternative reality gets reborn along with everyone else, and Han Shaoling makes the same mistake again (to be fair he probably slept with ori!FL before being reborn), and shows how creepy he is. He's willing to r*pe the MC just to keep her by his side instead of trying to actually win her heart for real. And he can't comprehend that he's not God's gift to all women or why the MC doesn't like him (he does have the odds against him though since the MC knows that he's supposed to be with ori!FL).

It's cute to see how the MC and ML fall in love all over again simply because they meet and are attracted to each other, and how the ML, unlike Han Shaoling, is actually sensible and respects the MC, leading her to form a good impression. Again the ML's mom is a riot and not having her in the main story is a damn shame.

[collapse]

The puppet and Duan Ming are adorable. World-building is pretty decent, plot is okay. Nothing too deep, but good fun. <<less

Great story, smart, capable and not obnoxious FL! An even more smart, capable and not obnoxious ML!! G even the villians were ok, obnoxious but not too in the face 👀

Idk if this is clear enough... Read it if you like a smart couple, comedy, fantasy world, powerful protagonist and a bit of angst but with a HE.

(I just hated that tho FL was not an idiot and had above average intelligence, every body had a protagonist halo that shot her efforts short without ML's help and so she... more>> is left without much to do... But I'm just nitpicking here) <<less

It's good, actually I'm writing this review after I finished this a year ago and I miss this so I'm planning to re-read it. It's not that great like 100% perfect but it makes an impression to me, I even like the flaws

Spoiler

about the ml: at first part he's like a wounded kid to me, comparing him to other ML that is mentally unstable (the way they act) I prefer the ML here, I can't explain it throughly, he is insecure in some part that he wish he got when he was younger (like everyone is fake/using him) but confident on things he is good at (him good at fighting). For me he is pretty cute cause like I said he's like a wounded kid (don't get me wrong him being cute cause his broken, no.) when FL coaxing him he is like sulking baby, he is easily swayed, he is sticky and won't let go

When they now both aware on their feeling ML decided to let FL go so she can be safe away from his enemies (where he didn't think from the start cause no feelings yet) he is more sensitive in this part cause he is insecure, I was amazed at fl's action, If you already read the novel, at first part ML thinks about s*xual stuff with FL to make her scared or something (even though he is virg*n, he only do this so he can look cool but puhhhlesss dude you can't hide) so when ML pushed her away, she cried and get strip her clothes while crying "This is what you want right? Then let do it, since this will be our parting gift" that's the vibe I get BUT it's more better in the novel I'm sucks at narrating

Ps. At that part there's part I didn't include cause this will take long

I love their relationship, no dumb misunderstandings, no love triangle, they support each other any way they can and have an impressive bond. All characters are fleshed out and have flaws, they seem real. Especially the ML has a lot of character development. The progression of all relationships is realistic and satisfying. It combines schemes, action, and romance neatly. What I liked most were the consistent casual romantic moments between the couple. Some bits were slightly confusing, especially near the end where more mysteries get revealed, but after thinking some... more>> time things make sense. I liked the beginning and middle a bit more then the end (tbh the truth about the world is a little unsettling), but as most of it was a really nice read I'd rate it 4.5/5. <<less

im not gonna lie I think this novel is an absolute riot

first - FL is a great character. Her inner monologue and motivations are super clear, she has reasonable reactions to events and no MC halo. Her family is really nice too (i especially like the crossdresser brother, hehe) and her interactions with ML are so fun. I think shes a logical character and clever.

ML - unhinged. like most other reviews are saying he’s genuinely gone off the rails, theres no ‘outward psycho secretly soft and lovely inside’ but I... more>> also think that makes him a really interesting character to read about because he’s so much more unpredictable.

the novel itself mocks the concept of MC haloes and typical mary sue characters by making one of the main antagonists the og!FL whose successes rely on her halo and marysueishness. Similarly the tr*sh fiancé gets whats coming to him :) its quite satisfying imo.

plus theres a really cute cloudbeast.

10/10 would def recommend <<less

The humor in this novel is a definite plus.

The logic is a bit sketchy if you look too close, but if you just take everything with a grain of salt in a fantasy novel, it's overall an amusing series.

For readers who have always hated the Mary Sue Halo effected FL in novels, this story mocks that. Instead, the focus is on a cannon fodder character who dies within the first couple of lines in a novel transmigration story. Initially, the FL is striving her hardest to stay alive by finding... more>> a new backer since she doesn't want to get in between the original FL and ML. Who better than the villain of the story? Eventually, she starts learning what a tsundere the ML villain is. Although, he appears to be a psychotic killer, he does have his own reasons.

The ML villain comes off as super boastful and cute throughout the tale. I do like that if you step back and think about all the new ML & FL events, they actually come off more as villains together.

In addition, the puppet, the beast mount, the FL's family, the drag queen brother, all create a light comedic read despite the amount of violence and gore in the action. <<less

One of the best stories with a female lead I've read. The main couple is so adorable, and the MC is very straightforward and open-minded. She's very mentally strong and clever, but also somewhat realistic in her later showing of weakness and reliance on the ML. The ML is the cutest even though he's literally mentally ill. Wish there was more in the extras.

TL;DR : Fun main pair, quite long. Suffers from the not great translation quality.

The male and female lead are interesting and their interactions are fun. The female lead starts in a very difficult situation. She hangs on the male lead to help her out, but still tries to be independent. The male lead starts mentally unstable due to a truly horrendous childhood and difficult circumstances from then to this day. The FL helps him out and later they fall in love and depend on each other. This part is the... more>> best part of the story.

There is actually a plot here besides the romance and there aren't any glaring plot holes, but the plot is not very well written and isn't particularly interesting. It just gets weird. The last 20% of the plot is almost entirely about the plot mysteries being solved and it has very little about the relationship between the characters and is hence somewhat hard to get through. Feels like the author decided she doesn't have the patience to pace everything carefully and rushes through, and even so this story is quite long.

Translation is okay, but not great. The more difficult parts are sometimes incomprehensible. For example, there were a few paragraphs of face slapping from the FL to original story female lead, and the whole speech felt mostly senseless. <<less

The first part is good for me. The later part is not so good to read. It's not because the story is bad. I just felt that the way the story progress is not my cup of tea.

I actually love the romance between MC and ML.

I love it! Super!

It's not pure love at first. It began with deception and possessiveness since its a world that full of blood. But when they started to know each other they began to truly began to feel true love.

I absolutely love this story, especially the strong main characters and how they subvert the typical romance tropes. It highlights how in reality, people act based on selfish motivations and sometimes, good people are forced to bad ends. I love how everyone in this story has their own goal that they strive for - it feels very realistic even if everything is taking place in a fantasy novel.

Perhaps most surprising is that the female lead and male lead are not good people, and sometimes enable each other to do some... more>> unsavory things. However, in the end, they both contribute to making each other stronger. While one might want to protect the other, when they fall short, the other is there to help them jump over the gap.

I also love how the author ties up pretty much every loose end. I feel like we could learn more about the arcane, but we know enough for a pretty solid backstory.

The last thing I really appreciate is the thoughtfulness that the author put into the brother character. He's not gendered confused, he's just borrowing a face that makes him feel powerful and free. He becomes stronger by learning how to integrate that into his real face. In the end, it's about learning to be comfortable in his own skin, not twisting himself into a gender stereotype. <<less

I was completely absorbed in this novel from start to end, losing track of time. I think I can be forgiven for blowing a few rainbow farts.

Although the premise is a fairly standard 'manic pixie dream girl redeems tortured brooding boy' transmigration cultivation plot, it's the execution that makes this story special. For example, all the characters are a pleasure to know and watch. The MC is whip smart and flexible, combining in one package the ease of an experienced scammer with the guts and skill of an international operative.... more>> The ML transforms from a walking fleet of red flags into a sassy, high-quality partner that anyone would be delighted to take home. The process of their development is convincing, an incredible thing amongst a multitude of 2D yanderes on novelupdates -- and after that, it's all a matter of killing false gods and fake buddhas together, unravelling mysteries step by step. ML is a cheat, but he's a cheat with proper checks and balances, and he goes up against much worse cheats, so there is balance. Most of the antagonists had heroic qualities, and many of the protagonists carry unforgivable sins. All the side characters are well fleshed and all have histories, motivations, and entertaining moments. The banter alone is top-notch, alleviating the occasional scenes of nightmare fuel.

Even if I wanted to find fault, there is very little to complain about the story. Unlike most other Chinese cultivation novels, which simply carry the assumption that females are weaker by default, the strength difference between the MC and the ML is understandable because she had a super late start and also did not suffer even 1% of what he had to experience in order to transform into that kind of walking cheat. The plotlines intersect in unexpected ways, leaving very few elements wasted in a fine balance of flavours. Random objects are used as McGuffins in incredibly practical ways; throwaway lines return with resonance, pricking the heart. Unnamed random people play enormous roles. The transmigration experience is explained in full, and every arc left me sighing with satisfaction. What else to say? I'd love to reread this story again in a year or two. The occasional translation hiccups do not detract from the quality of the writing and the interpretation. You don't really need to use your brain to enjoy the ride, either; only if you want to. There is that flexibility to choose.

This title lands solidly in my top ten webnovel reads. Five stars. <<less

It was a cute read but got a little boring at the end.

The MC kinda changed from a cool beauty at the beginning to a cute one so that was kind of a bummer for me (but ML's personality stayed - cute and smart but crazy and no common sense).

I found the ending funny though

Spoiler

but the part I really liked were the extras. The extras were the TRUE ending. Would have liked more story on mommy and daddy though and their future life.

This story is both entertaining and engaging. The characters are well-developed and have distinct personalities that remain consistent throughout the narrative. I particularly enjoyed the female lead, who is witty, charming, and supportive of both her family and romantic partner. While the male lead's personality might be considered unconventional, it adds an interesting layer of complexity to the story and complements the overall tone.

Great story. I love power couples that progress in character and love. This is my second time reading it. The first chapter isn't translated the greatest, but it gets easier to read after the first couple chapters. I could see this being a very fun anime due to the MC's power.

Hope you give it a try.

As of chapter 30:

Plot: 5/5 stars

Translation quality: 4/5 stars

... more>> Characterisation: 5/5 stars

Setting: 4/5 stars

Magic/cultivation system: 3/5 stars

The design of the cultivation system is decent, especially considering it’s not the focus of the story at all. The MC’s cultivation is a minor subplot, if anything, and is generally happening in the background of whatever is happening in the plot at the moment. Doesn’t play a big role in terms of the story and is mostly in the background If you’re looking for a progression fantasy, I would not recommend this.

I would recommend this if you’re looking for:

  • A well-thought-out plot
  • Colourful characters
  • A sprinkle of mystery
  • An actually intelligent MC
  • A more-than-slightly unhinged ML
The author’s approach to the ML’s mental instability is refreshing to say the least. The author skillfully balances between romanticising his behaviour and actually pointing out how unhealthy and toxic it is. The MC is fully aware of this and I liked how she doesn’t delude herself (or us, the reader) into thinking he is in love with her because she is so beautiful/special/intelligent/blah, blah, blah like some Mary Sue. She takes him for what he is: a sadistic lunatic with random impulses of paranoia and violence. She keeps in mind remembers that he was the villain of the story for a very good reason. <<less
