So, this story is one that is a guilty pleasure of mine. If you want unbridled fun, a character who is able to "power up" but without using any true cheats (at least, the cultivation system he uses makes sense, and it allows for easy understanding and not super dues-ex-ey), although as with any novel of this type there is bound to be some plot armor.

Who is the MC? Jiang Chen, an absolute bada*s who is the reincarnation of the greatest saint under the heavens, and yes - it's not... more>> just a meaningless title.
Spoiler

He cut open the wall to heaven allowing humans to gain immortality and go past the previous peak of his past life

[collapse]
. He has some wisdom and isn't dumb, although he can be a bit hot blooded at times and fight people who he really shouldn't - but that is due to his personality he had as a great saint and the fact that as a reincarnated saint - he knows no fear.

However, I would say this nearly has two main characters, and the second is Big Yellow, a "dog" who has a thick skull and farts that can kill an army. He's an incredibly lovable and funny character, and he is more of a cheat than the MC, although thats just in effort required for them to power up. The dynamic between the two (Jiang chen and Big Yellow) is really something special, as they are some mix between best friends and brothers, and their banter is always great. (Big Yellow is also even more arrogant than Jiang Chen).

What to get out of this story?

Brotherhood - not only between Big Yellow and Jiang Chen, but those few friends he has, he views as brothers. So far, even though some basic side characters get left out, the important ones are always mentioned, or even around. They come back and aren't forgotten, and they have a well-fleshed out character.

Fast-Paced Action - Jiang Chen progresses fast, but not to the point where its s*upidity and a single power level is only viable for a few chapters. However, the story is well done and there is a lot of actual plot, and so far not that many repeated circumstances.

"World-Building", or atleast a nice history and plenty of secrets and mysterious that we will find out later, alluded to even 200-300 chapters in advance.

For those wondering, do not compare this to MGA or PMG, they are not even in the same league. Yes, the MC can be a bit hot-blooded and his arrogance knows no bounds, but it is in a very different way. If I were to compare them, I would equate this to what PMG would have wanted to be, if it was written by a competent author. Jiang Chen isn't an annoying arrogant brat, and there is actual story to be had beside the constant repetition (he goes into a sect atleast two times, but the arcs in the sect are less dependent on sect life, and more on missions).

While I can't say this is a masterpiece of a novel, I still rate it five stars due to the pure enjoyment factor that comes with this novel. Jiang Chen will make you smile. If you want an exciting and fun binge-read, this is a great novel to go to. A Xuan Huan story done right. <<less

Dragon-Marked War God contains various common troupes of many Chinese novels out there. In that case, why am I giving it four stars? Because I believe this novel does a surprisingly good job with them.

Spoiler

1) The love interest - Cons: The female lead is described as being very beautiful in classic "jade-like" terms, She just happens to have a yin body which caused her to be weak and ill until Jiang Chen showed up to cure her. Initially she was a very innocent and naive young girl, which could be a bit annoying at points.
Pros: The MC is very devoted towards this girl, and is both unwilling to let anyone else insult her, and also completely uninterested in any other women (as far as I have read). The girl has good talent, and could be considered roughly on par with Jiang Chen in terms of strength. Her personality also changes slightly as she becomes more familiar with the cruel reality of the world, though it isn't all that developed yet, but she's nice enough. I'm hopeful that she'll have a certain level of importance even as the story goes on. The female lead and the MC meet in a cliche way, but it's tolerable (I hate it when the meeting is annoying, like the MC sees a girl bathing and the girl proceeds to furiously try to trample the MC, for instance).

2) The power-ups - Cons: Jiang Chen tends to power up very quickly, and the majority of his overwhelming strength is due to the advantages given to him because of his powerful technique. The system of cultivation is a pretty typical level system, without any really unique points, and there isn't any focus on laws or philosophical descriptions or anything like that.
Pros: Although he does brute force his way through lots of things, and his power-ups are pretty quick, there is at least some logic behind most of his rise in power. Besides that, his level jumping abilities are about equally due to his knowledge from his previous life as his superior cultivation technique, so while it's primarily brute strength there is some intelligence involved.

3) The reincarnation - Cons: He has tons of knowledge, so whenever a problem pops up or something seems impossible for others, he can easily accomplish things using his past life knowledge.
Pros: The reincarnation part is actually done pretty well, unlike in many other novels. First, he reincarnates into the future and on a different continent, so no worries about him going back into his own past and conveniently knowing literally everything that happens. Another upside is that in this case him being reincarnated actually matters in this story, instead of being just a convenient way to get things started (PMG *cough*). However, the best part for me is that Jiang Chen actually seems to have learned something from his previous life, and strives to correct some of his previous mistakes in this life. For example, in his previous life he went at everything alone, but this time he ensures that he has friends and allies to help support him, recognizing that he can't do everything by himself.

4) Antagonists - Cons: The antagonists are kind of like what you'd expect. Many spoiled young masters and arrogant brats who incessantly harass the MC for relatively minor reasons.
Pros: Later on in the story an antagonist appears whose talent and destiny are fairly close to the MC's, and he apparently remains a relevant villain for much of the story, so if you're sick of antagonists being constantly defeated and forgotten, there's that. As for the cannon fodder types of antagonists, plenty exist, but for the most part their destruction isn't too delayed and is sufficiently interesting to keep me from minding too much.

5) Side Characters - Cons: We don't get too much development for the side characters, and many of them just end up either respecting or hating the MC.
Pros: Jiang Chen's love interest isn't too bad. Jiang Chen's best friend, Big Yellow, is also a pretty hilarious character whose talent is about on par with the MC (he can level jump and everything), and Big Yellow goes with the MC on most of his adventures after he enters the picture, instead of almost immediately fading into obscurity like many other "best friend" characters.

6) Main Character's Personality - Like a lot of MCs in these types of novels, Jiang Chen isn't quite good or evil. He goes far to help his friends, and doesn't hesitate to exterminate his enemies. Jiang Chen has a bit of arrogance too, which is attributed mainly towards his current talent and the mindset he developed in his previous life. That being said, I think it's an acceptable level of arrogance. He is a pretty ruthless guy, and he kills a lot of people, but I've yet to see him straight up mu*der an entire sect (there is a case where he kills all of the main members of a sect/clan, but he spares those who aren't a threat, like the servants and such, so I didn't think it was that bad).

7) Translation/Writing - The translation is pretty good. I think the earlier chapters were in need of some editing, but once some more editors/proof-readers join it gets better as you go on and the translation speed is pretty good. As for the writing, like many of these novels there is some repetition and wordiness, and there are some flaws in fights scenes and explanations as a result of this. I've seen much worse though, so I wouldn't go so far as to say it's worth dropping because of that.

[collapse]

To sum it up, it's one of those stories where the MC is super OP, aiming for the very top of the world and not shy about admitting it. The things that come along with this kind of story, like an MC with a certain level of arrogance, underdeveloped side characters, and level jumping, are all here in one form or another.

That said, all in all, it's a decent story. Actually, my rating is probably a bit closer to 3 1/2 stars, maybe slightly less than that. However, I'm choosing to give it 4 in light of the fact that despite the cliche aspects I actually haven't dropped it yet. I'd say it's worth reading, and definitely entertaining if you're a bit newer to this genre. If you're someone who's already read many Chinese novels and has a good grasp of the common troupes, you might not find it as engaging, but it's enough to pass the time. <<less

It starts off good, kinda funny, if you ignore the massive amount of translating errors of the initial translator... but it quickly turns repetitive. I know xianxia is suppose to be like that... but this one is more repetitive than others. Specifically, he does something "amazing" ONCE then everyone starts trusting him with clan decisions/important persons/ etc. His cultivation is no better than MGA, he eats stuff and he powers up, but MGA was more interesting than this. The crowd talk is annoying... it takes like 4 paragraphs and it... more>> identical to the previous crowd talk from before.

Honestly, I had high hopes for this, but was sorely disappointed. I will try to continue reading for now, but it is really hard to go through. Most likely will drop this soon. In my opinion, the quality of xianxia is usually under JP novels because of the xianxia elements but I still like them. This however seems to be on the low end of xianxias I've read so far <<less

Someone sum it up pretty nicely with this review:

Why is every Xianxia novel that I read the MC is always like this :
1. After dying his soul went to another body and that body is weak as f*ck!
2. Trains a bit and become strong that everyone thinks that the MC is faking being weak
3. Left hometown and went to a city and got into trouble then a fight and kills his opponent
4. Left that city trains a bit got a power up and goes to another... more>> city and another idiot crosses his way kill

Rinse and repeat and more rinsing.

This novel is boring and generic. Please stay away. Wasted a lot of time reading it. <<less

Good story. A little basic, but you're sure to get your kicks out of it.

MC's your typical xianxia with an interesting cultivation method (Absorbs powers through bloodlines) and bit of that arrogance that comes with once being the tip of the top beings of the world.

The main hook, as I see it, is the MC's ruthlessness. Side character exclaims "You wouldn't dare do that!" and the MC, well, dares to do it. Hilarity generally ensues, especially when MC's talking dog companion, a real narcissist, comes into play and literally bites... more>> people's butts off.

A favorite part of mine is when
Spoiler

MC almost gets assassinated and goes back to the sect he's at to find the culprit. Some things happen, and the MC ends up hanging up several people--outer disciple bullies, sect elders, and inner disciples--on poles and gets a bunch of people to beat them to death with pikes in the center of the courtyard. Keep in mind, he's just a small outer core disciple himself.

[collapse]

The story isn't complicated, the usual wash, rinse, and repeat method of finding a continually stronger guy who provokes the MC. That being said, however, it isn't boring. You'll find enjoyment in wondering what this seemingly unconscientious MC will do next. <<less

When I first read this story, I was like; "Wow, this is good." Then it became like; "What the f*ck?"

I can accept him falling in love to YCY even though he is 'Greatest Saint' in his past life who has seen like that many kinds of beauty.

I can accept him having great luck because he's the MC.

... more>> I can accept most of the loopholes, BUT THE HECK? THE PLOT IS JUST SO-SO!

One of the facts in there that I hate is, How Many People Reincarnated.

How he was like, 'I don't want to offend someone' attitude but kills genius A/B/C in Sect 1/2/3.

How he always encounter some beauty and inexplicably became couple.

How some people 'knew' that MC is gonna have a 'great future' but always helds back the MC. Like how MC always need to save them. Like eww.

I also hate the fact How the book said that MC is 'ruthless' but in my opinion, How is he ruthless? He always save someone that doesn't have any thing to do with him. Like big yuck.

If he is ruthless, he will not let his enemies held him back by holding some insignificant hostage that doesn't have anything to do with him.

How he says that 'the world is ruled with strength' but why the f*ck are those people clamming around for? They said how ruthless and evil is the MC and he got punished for that. Where is the strength there? There is only authority and background in there.

How he moves in the next place then repeat the same thing over and over again.

Gah, I'm so tired of plots like this. <<less

Your stereotypical xuanhuan:

  • Hot Blooded MC
  • Arrogant young masters
  • One dimensional females
  • Only fart joke comedy
  • More plot holes than a golf course
  • Cultivating so fast that cultivation levels are irrelevant
  • Everyone and their dog are power levelled so hard it hurts
  • No romance
  • Crafting pills like popcorn
  • Cockroach characters
  • Restaurant arc where conflict occurs
  • Auction house where conflict occurs
Yeah, there are many cliches but the main reason to read this novel is because the MC is RUTHLESS, not white knight fake ruthless but genuinely kills to the root as one should so I found it satisfying - I'm not one... more>> who loves mu*der but I hate leaving hidden dangers and MC doesn't do that usually.

The plot is somewhat coherent and there are 2000+ translated chapters. Its not bottom of the barrel reading but there are many better novels that should be read first.

I'm not a fan of the side characters but if you read the first 50 chapters and enjoy it then give it a go. As I said at the start, it's your standard typical xuanhuan with many multiple realms and 4k+ chapters in the raws. <<less

Spoiler

The sect leader sends him on a difficult mission, as a fake punishment for killing some fellow disciples that plotted against him, while really it is a way to let him get stronger, but does nothing about the elders and disciples still plotting against him. Before leaving on the mission he leaves his girl under the care of a friendly elder and tells him to watch out for the people plotting against him. Predictably while he is out on his mission the people plotting against him send assassins to make his mission even more deadly and go try to attack/r*pe MC's girl. Ultimately the girl is wounded because the elder that was supposed to protect her went to cultivate. MC comes back, kills a few more plotters and complains to the elder for failing to protect his girl and to the sect leader for sending him on a mission but not looking after his people. So clearly the MC is pissed, and even says he is going to leave the sect, but he doesn't, instead he warns the sect leader about the evil elder, and how he is likely working for a rival sect, and the sect leader says the elder is loyal to the sect and the evil things he has done are due to personal grudge, which is still f*cked up, but apparently is ok in the sect leaders eyes. Anyways MC doesn't leave the sect with his girl, instead he leaves her under the care of the same friendly elder and goes on an adventure.

[collapse]

After that I skimmed a few more chapter to see how the arc ended, it was disappointing and predictable, I then dropped it. <<less

I'll be honest, I picked this up when I was relatively new to reading Novels and only because the title and synopsis sounded kind of cool.

It's a rather typical cultivation Novel, nothing that is particularly outstanding but it isn't bad either. What I like in this novel are the characters. The interaction between the "main cast" is pretty entertaining and also funny especially between the MC and the "Yellow Dog".

Another good thing, in my opinion, is the MC who is pretty ruthless. He doesn't give his enemies any second chances... more>> and takes them out as soon as he can. Sometimes it makes you even feel sorry for them lol.

Very occasionally there is some romance and the MC has got his little Harem (as of Ch 2022 it's 4 Girls I think) but he never really has any prolonged time to spend with them since he and they are often separated and busy with dealing with constant danger and trouble. So don't expect too much romance from this novel, like the MC this Novel is very much focused on Action and Adventure.

What I dislike is a typical weakness in long-running cultivation novels, the plot becomes rather repetitive. While there is an overarching plot, the mystery about the MC's OP Cultivation Method, it's practically on a standstill and we have to wait until the MC becomes strong enough since that is the only way to find more clues about it. <<less

honestly this is a story about a hyporcritical maniac who is extremely greedy. No one can have anything good other than him. No one can look at his women other than him. His a battle maniac. I have never read about such an arrogant, hypocritical battle maniac as much as Jiang Chen. This guy is also a virg*n. Nothing wrong with being a virg*n but imagine if Justin bieber (or any rich and famous young man alive on earth) had a few wives and was STILL a virg*n. It does... more>> not make any sense? even in his first life he was extremely famous and rich and a pretty boy. BUT he never touched a woman. You can blame that on him being obsessed with cultivation however his cultivation was absolutely tr*sh in his first life lol. he reached pinnacle saint, that is pitifully weak in comparison to the universe his in.

This novel is one of the most repetetive you will ever find. his women are constantly captured and are at the mercy of his enemies hands. Even his companions always somehow get captured and require him to save them. Very weird. The plot armor extends to every single one of his companions and friends. It also appears to me that if Jiang chen talks to someone for abit, their talent will develop and somehow become a heaven defying genius. what a LOL. The biggest problems I have with this novel is:

repetetition of women being r*ped. His woman could have been r*ped multiple times if the potential rapist had a brain. Literally one of his women became a puppet and invited Jiang chen to a feast. During the feast that young master brought out the ladies who were all beauties and just happened to be controlled. Of course our MC is too scared to lose his v**ginity so he didnt touch them, heck even his dog who always spouts lustful things is still a virg*n. (again nothing wrong with being a virg*n) So this young master brings Jiang chens wife out to show her off. He had captured her a few days ago and you guessed it. he didnt even touch her once. he gave a s*upid excuse I have to do it under the moonlight or something but hahaa what a joke. Your telling me a very lustful man who only cares about sleeping with women, will control himself when he sees the most beautiful women he has ever seen. not only that she was his puppet and he could order her to do anything. it just doesnt make any sense. Its like placing a hentai MC in a normal harem anime and expecting him to not even do anything to those girls when he has the chance to. if any normal man has the oppurtunity to sleep with their beautiful wife/fiancee/gf then they would take it). Thet wouldnt say ohh im not ready and b.s like that. But Jiang chen, he doesnt even think of that. why? because his too busy eating resources in his s*upid tower lol

onto the next point. Plot armor. Now this is the biggest mishap I have with this story. The plot armor is very thick. he obtains some tower through his overpowered technique. Now this tower can do anything it is beyond ridiculous. its defence is overbearing, its time distortion and everything. Now when an expert arrives, he becomes invisible and hides in the tower. This happens against experts two or three big realms higher than him. how convenient he just hides inside a tower to protect him from any "real" danger. Anyways one time he picked up a random egg. he placed it inside his tower and his sworn enemy, who for some reason is tr*sh outside of screen time, corners the MC. MC uses tower, but for the first time someone actually used an eye technique to find the tower. So the tower is being bombarded and guess what happens? the egg hatches and an extremely powerful monkey hops out, sends the enemy packing and then goes back inside the egg... Legit I stopped reading after that. I was looking forward to such a climax because this enemy kept coming back. I wanted a win or loss anything, but lo and behold a bloody egg hatches and a monkey for some reason a monkey (monkeys dont come out of eggs) defeated that genius instantly. Now I have no idea why a full grown monkey whose power level was even higher than Jiang chens and the dogs cultivation level AT BIRTH. how damn talented is that monkey to be born as a immortal emperor. what a joke yeah? his bloodline is powerful and all, but big yello (the dog) bloodline is equal or even better, yet he was born at such a tr*sh power level. LOL is all I have to say. after that I continued and guess what happened to arrogant monkey. experts captured him and threatened jiang chen to arrive. of course these mc's think that them arriving will make everyone have mercy on them. the monkey surprisingly was killed. I got happy that plot was thickenening and was surprised. But guess what? yes you guessed it for some s*upid reason, monkey is immortal and cant die. I dropped immediately. idk how plot armor so thick is extended to even a pointless side character. we already had the beast side kick now we just have one that is walking plot armor, because the other friends have bland personalities.

harem is typical beauties get separated and somehow become far stronger than MC. friends are cool, but they also get ditched but they dont come back stronger. MC helps them out too much. its like starting a business with your friends, at first they hold their weight. then they just burn the business pockets. then they just freeload and waste resources. you wouldnt keep cashing in on them right? friends can be friends without paying them $1million salaries. But our MC doesnt understand that, he feels guilty if he doesnt share his wealth with his friends even though he needs it far more than anyone else.

Overall, a decent read at first. but MC is just too confident and never loses. I am sick of novels where you know MC will never lose. Even monkey d luffy from one piece lost a few times, losing is apart of life. Plot armor is extended to any of MC ally or friends. no deaths on his side. all his friends are also extremely lucky. if they havent been seen or heard of for 1000 chapters then they will definitely be stronger than MC next time they see him. A mindless read would not recommend. however big yellow, han yan and tyrant are rather funny characters so I gave an extra star. <<less

Total waste of time if this was not my first novel that I i read it would be fuc*ing great a ruthless MC kind of a break from the Japanese pacifists MC.

The plot is simply go to a new region, get a godlike deus ex machina, offend everyone, raise realms and kill everyone.

Jiang Chen (MC) never needs ro scheme and apparently no one other than few (1 or 2) characters that get introduced actually have plot armor.

For a xianxia there are realms in cultivation but no xianxia has it where... more>> peak of one world is bottom of other world, doesn't make sense.

The MC and big yellow are risking their lives whereas MC's close friends are just in seclusion.

The MC is arrogant as f*ck which is fun for a while but he has got nothing than that. Picks up fights with cultivators realm below them for just offending them and the sects are willing to protect even outer disciples.

MC is said to have some godlike comprehension of dao which hapoens in one chapter during breakthrough dyring tribulations.

Overall a sh*t novel with extreme deus ex machina and plot armor for MC.

This novel for you if you want a cycle of shitty plot <<less

This novel is just rinse and repeat once he gets to the higher realms. It’s at the point where the author is just reusing names for techniques with a slight difference.

“Why should we trust you to make this heavenly pill when you just came from the mortal realm?”

”Because I have never failed a pill concoction before”

... more>> Shit, this would make just more worried. A person who is the greatest and has never failed? Bullshit.

Honestly, though it wasn’t really a bad novel until he left the mortal realm. For some reason, he seemed to have struggled more in the mortal realm than he is struggling in the immortal realm right now. <<less

I'm officially dropping this novel. This will be the first novel I officially dropped. I don't like dropping novels, but it's not fun reading this anymore. Sometimes novels are boring such as fillers, and I can skim them, but I can't for this. I will tell you why later.

What's great about this novel is that it's straight up simple, and I mean simple. Nothing is complicated, and the MC kills the arrogant antagonists quickly. The author doesn't waste chapters with useless dialogues for villains, unlike SOTR. Another great thing about... more>> the novel is the humor--the same humor over and over gets stale later on--and the side characters have personalities.

Here is the bad part and I'm going to list them for better readability. I making this long (I don't like making long reviews) because I want to justify myself, and for you guys who read this, the reason why I'm dropping my first novel to date.
    1. My biggest negativity is when the MC reaches the higher/immortal realm. Nothing is a challenge for him. All the antagonist is the same as the mortal realm--arrogant and s*upid. Even creating immortal pills was a piece of cake for him. He states that it was the same process when he made mortal pills. This logic is ridiculous. We, the readers, we not even told that he could create these pills until he started making them.
    2. Saving face. The MC could have been killed numerous times for helping people, and killing arrogant clan members, but he is saved because older cultivators don't want to lower their reputation for killing a younger cultivator, even though they know he is a monster with insane potential.
    3. Everything is simplified. You need a balance of simplicity and build-up, and this novel sucks at building up moments that end up being lackluster. The main example of this is when he finally revealed his identity to people, and it wasn't exciting at all; I didn't feel anything. No excitement, just disappointment in the end.
    4. His companions are useless later on. They get insane powerups (deus ex machina) so they could always keep up with the MC's OPedness.
    5. Techniques are simple, and there is no variety. Nothing to rave about.
I do want to thank the translator for translating this novel, but I think it's a waste of time. There are many better novels out there that deserve to be translated than this. I was hoping things would get better after he ascended to the immortal realm, but it didn't; this was my last straw. Also, the novel is still ongoing. It's really surprising that there are over 3.4k chapters, and it doesn't seem like there is an end in sight. In my opinion, novels should not go over 3k chapters because they deteriorate. <<less

"Disappointing"

Just this one word came to mind after I read it till ch800

In the name cultivation novel, this whole thing is a pure shit.

... more>> *Spoiler*

Before the Divine continent arc it was still acceptable but after MC and his friends get into Divine continent, everything become absurd, every ally of become so much powerful in the cultivation road in such a short time that MC feel petrified. Remember

Our MC (reincarnation of greatest saint) has the best cultivation knowledge and whatnot but still fall behind by his friends. Even his wife (2nd, don't remember her name) become arrogant after coming in Divine continent and directly challenges MC to defeat every genius and only then he can marry her (even if she was the one who infatuated with mc). Also the naviety that our MC (ex-greatest saint) shows is on another level. There are still lot of things that is pure nonsense and repetitive in this novel that makes me really really dissatisfied.

There is no plot here, just rinse and repeat of young masters offending him in someway and them getting killed immediately and later being chased down by the young masters sect.

no cultivation techniques, no distinctions in different realms, the MC just absorbs chi and makes breakthroughs.

he has a plot armor for his cultivation technique but the same goes for all his friends, no mention of what techniques they are cultivating and what makes their techniques from a lower sealed world much better than immortal world where any insect from immortal... more>> world can destroy the MC's original sealed world.

MC's soul technique, alchemy technique, forging which is at saint level and acquired in his previous life is somehow better than immortals, god kings and venerates techniques, to put the levels in perspective using DM's saint level = 80, 000, Heaven Immortal = 500, 000, god king = 5, 000, 000. And this an exponential function and not a linear one as each new mark requires far more than an old one.

you can read this if you're bored and doesn't have anything else good to read and need to stimulate your testosterone. <<less

I'm already this far into the rabbit hole... but I would have to say the author is getting boring. I felt anthing past chapter 1054 would just be repeative. Everything seems lackluster.

As of the last 20 or so chapter it just seems repeative from the earlier 1000 chapter. The several 'roadblock' in the story for Jiang Chen has been nothing more than minor inconvience. And after 1000 chapter.... I would say I got enought of it. Most of the 'roadblock' can be summarised in a couple of sentence. -
Jiang... more>> face something he shouldn't be able to face.
Jiang manage to overcome issue because the opponent is 'retarted'.
Jiang overcomes the issue and kills.

I'm tired of this same old formula. And worst yet I feel the 'transend' arc is just going to be the same but worse. It's already 20 chapter in so far and anything related to pill creation (which just so happens to be similar to the beginning of the story) would only go down to "oh I'm awesome at this" senerio just to show off the protagonist.

And the last few chapter have been bugging me. There is a bit of spoiler so....

Spoiler

After Jiang Chen transends to the Saint Realm (or something), it's acknowledge everything is supposed to be stronger and more powerful in the realm. So I would expect that since at least everyone is at freaking human immortal realm they should have stronger ability. Since you know, FUKING passing on abilities. But it just felt like there is nothing more powerful, just more concentrated. Like instead of setting a new bar that Jiang Chen has never experience, the entire world is mulitply by 10 so everything is stronger. And it just so happens that Jiang Chen will also be that much stronger.

Would I read this again? probably not. It got boring after I spend 2+ years on this novel. Enjoyed the ride, but I felt it's time I get off.

To any new reader. Take my review with a grain of salt, but if you're here for a short ride to like 500 or less chapter than maybe read it for the heck of it. But to those devoted to read all the way... Suit yourself.

Looking at some of the other latest review. Most of them agree with me with my last point. I would have to say most of the 5 stars are from the early days when this novel was really good and sat on the top 20 on novelupdates. But those days are long gone. :/

Why I only gave 2*

    • The style of storytelling is pretty annoying. The Author's, it seems that he's out of ideas, and simply wastes whole chapters sucking up to the MC and too overpower praise MC, rendering everyone speechless and showing how cool he is like Jiang Chen freak bla.. bla.. Jiang Chen genius bla.. bla.. Awesome.. Jiang Chen powerful.. Jiang Chen has three d*ck bla.. bla... and I saw this sh*t in every single chapter.. I know MC is OP but do you really need to over praise ur MC that much?

      Spoiler
        • Not enough with just that and now the Author's sucking up to MC women like Jiang Chen women top beauties and not even the legendary celestial beauties could be compared to her and everyone want to F#%k his women, MC women attractiveness was lethal.. bla.. bla..
      [collapse]
    • Author`s make all other character arrogant, dumb and idiot especially Jiang Chen enemy because Jiang Chen should have die and be killed by his Enemy many times already but all his enemy like 'HUSH I CAN KILL JIANG CHEN RIGHT NOW BUT JUST LET HIM ALIVE FOR NOW, HE JUST ANTS ANYWAY AND I CAN KILL HIM ANYTIME SO JUST LET HIM ALIVE FOR A FEW MORE DAYS'. Killing him is merely a simple matter'. After that enemy start to regret for not killing Jiang Chen early and this situation repeat over and over again and again.. urgh!
    • Spoiler

MC keep showing how cool he is, keeping calm at all situations and keep saying he don`t like getting into conflict and finding trouble with anyone and keep saying don`t provoke me but in fact he is the one who always provoke and
start finding trouble with someone. MC keep showing how righteous he is when he deceives others into doing what he wants them to do and kill someone for treasure. Treat different race as evil because of different cultivation and how they treat human but in fact he is the one who always collect soul and robe from different race to upgrade his cultivation grade.

      [collapse]
    • This is the most part what I hate about this novel. There are too many similarities with the same story situation but with different character names and location, to much repeatedly situation. When the bad guy/enemy die, new one will pop up and same situation will repeat. Its pretty damn annoying!! So basically most of it is COPY AND PASTE.
I keep reading this novel for hoping it will get better and also because once I start reading a novel I will read till the end even it mean to translate Chinese into English using google translator.

The novel repeats itself over and over, and it gets really boring. The MC might be "ruthless" and all, but he's way too annoying what with killing everyone. He keeps saying how he needs to "protect" his family and friends, but I think the author just added this to make him more relatable because the dude does not seem like the kind of person that would care about his "friends" and "family". I mean, he wanted to kill the yellow dog when he first met the dog, and only stopped... more>> trying to eat the dog after realizing he couldn't beat the dog. I just got bored quickly. If you do like the book in the first few chapters, I suggest portioning out the chapters because I read 250 chapters in one day and then got bored of it. Try to keep you reading below 100 chapters a day. <<less

This novel is basically literature's answer to a Hollywood action movie: numerous plot holes, badass OP MCs, lot's of explosions, sexy girls that fall head over heels for the MC and a storyline that could've been written by a 10 year old. Ladies and gents, I present to you DMWG! At its heart, it's a Xuanhuan trope rinse and repeat novel that is even more predictable than a classic b rated horror movie. It can even be frustrating at times how s*upid the plot is and how convenient Jian Chen's... more>> power ups are. Basically, he'll never lose because he'll always conveniently power up right before a fight or get saved by [insert here] plot armor. That's the worst of it.

On the other hand, who would ever read Xuanhuan for plot and story... Accordingly, and in that regard, it's the perfect Xuanhuan because it follows all of the typical XH tropes to a T: arrogant reoccurring golden spoon fed bad guys - check, enemies conveniently popping up back to back that are always marginally stronger than their predecessors and oc ~ the MC - check, timely powerups and treasures that occur/appear right before an impossible to win fight - check, peerlessly beautiful manikin wives - check, OP pet check, reincarnation - check... the list goes on.

In short, if you like Sovereign of the Three realms and if you're not picky about plot armor then you may actually enjoy this one because it makes for a really good action movie. <<less

Chapters read : 66

The author is trying to make the MC look like a OP genius but the MC is simply too overbearing. Antagonists just pop up for convenience once the previous one is defeated. If you like MC’s who simply plough through enemies this is for you.
