Lin Qian once thought the man she wanted would be handsome and formidable, able to “create clouds with one turn of the hand and rain with another turn” in the business world, causing her to look up to him in admiration. There would be nothing he could not accomplish.

But when she finally met the one that fit this, she realized how much she liked his impassiveness, his quietness, his persistence, and his loyalty. She liked him to the point that she was willing to be with him, to stand side by side with him in this callous business world that is full of bloodshed. To be reckless in these years of our life, irrespective of the future.

———————–

An encounter, ordinary and dull like flowing water, produced the most dramatic and best years for him and her.

Ding Mo specialized at creating romance drama with background full of intrigue, and it prominently displayed on Our Glamorous Time. But don’t be mistaken; the intrigues were not as cliche as love triangle or square, because the intrigue this time was intrigue on business world. Fighting to boost market share, competing to win tender, industrial espionage, etc. Both the MC and her love interest was smart and driven; a perfect candidate for a power couple.

If you like “When Snail Loves” (another work by Ding Mo, but... more>> in a different setting with police detectives as protagonist), or Hong Kong business drama (like "At The Treshold of An Era"), then you’ll probably like this.

The beginning of the story was a bit slow though, as suggested by the description above (“an encounter, ordinary and dull like a flowing water” indeed). Even till the latest translated chapter, the romance between the main OTP was still stalled. However, an interesting turn of event was just happened, and I’ve got high hope regarding the next chapters. I’ll definitely be back to re-review.

PS: the MC’s love interest was HOT <<less

I think it might just be be, but I didn't really feel the chemistry or the depth if feelings between the MC and ML. Also I just feel like MC is a bit to passive in everything. Romance, ML wears the pants. At work, ML wears the pants. In basically all aspects of MCs life he wears the pants. Which when I was reading, really rubbed me the wrong way. I just felt like MC was completely dependent on ML for character development. ML himself admits that he liked it... more>> when he was the centre of her universe. I just don't like it when one person in the relationship is that dependent on the other, it makes for an unbalanced relationship and doesn't sit well with me. <<less

A pretty deep and interesting romance with a fairly strong female lead (I explain why I say 'fairly' in the spoiler) and a focus on corporate politics/media/advertis**ent and fighting for market share. The schemes and details in the business world were semi-believable, with only a bit of hand-wavy magic, so the author definitely did some research.

Spoiler

If you love business world/econ/rags-to-riches, and don't mind BL, there's a much better story that I recommend: [Epiphanies of Rebirth].

[collapse]

This author is very good at writing a mature toned story where the face-slapping is more subtle and there are more three-dimensional villains and the story and romance overall progresses in a logical manner.

Overall, it's a good read with very few contrived situations. I definitely enjoy the 'teaming up to go against the world' feeling between the MC and ML.

Spoiler

One very subtle issue is still the matter of CN culture/subtext in the story. While the author tries very hard to present a strong female MC, all of her actions are still written as being under the purview of the ML. It's stated several times that her choice to break away to stand on her own was 'allowed' or humored by the ML due to his love for her. The MC's brother is the same. In the end, the author writes that the MC feels more comfortable supporting the efforts of the ML instead of being at her own company. Of course, there's nothing 'weak' about supporting the person you love. However, this is a consistent theme in most C-novels and this author's stories. The female MC once again is only allowed to be strong enough or independent enough to suit the male characters protecting her. She will never be written to outshine them or take up a bigger share of any life burden because of her gender.

Despite this, it's still one of the better novels out there with a female MC that has more character and is written better than many others. (Kind of a sad state, tbh.)

Another amazing work done by the author. Commerce war, romance development and character developments are on point. I admire the MC's personality of not letting herself be pampered and fighting back to her setbacks. The pacing of the story is slow throughout the story but it was the perfect pace that fits the progress of the story.

Strongly recommending it! Ding Mo never fails to amaze us!!

P.S. The extra chapters are really funny though. It's fun to see the wives in OGT, WHCCYE and WASL.

It was alright. The MC kind of annoyed me for the most part. I don't understand how she can chase after him and leave her number for him and just be so entranced by him, but when he confesses to her she acts like she doesn't like him and rejects him, then a couple days/weeks later she's completely infatuated with him, being extremely clingy getting mad when he's super busy with work and can't fly to come see her and then turns around does the exact same thing. Like make... more>> it make sense to me. She also annoyed me when she got upset when she didn't know his plans but she herself was the one to decline knowing his plans. That part really t'ed me off in the book. Sometimes I liked her, but for most of the book I didn't.?? <<less

I'm so sick with all the misunderstandings and unnecessary dramas with schemes on every fcking stories I've read oh my gosh AND GUESS WHAT this story is so refreshing!!!

Finally a decent romance!

A military background ML who suddenly jump into the business world because of his deceased brother and repair the company that was about to go bankrupt because of it's former CEO. And yeah he basically seems a bit noob at the start and the somehow the MC underestimate him but of course our ML has to be the... more>> perfect husband, he immediately adapt to things perfectly, and handle them in a smart way. Which also once made the MC insecure of her own intelligence lol. But eventually they'd be at the same level and I LOVE THEIR INTERACTION.

Don't forget about the MC's protective brother (he has his own story, titled Dont Turn Away From Summer), a billionaire. The MC wont make calculations with ML regarding company shares and everything bcuz they're in love already but then her brother be like, "It's okay, just leave all of the calculations to me" lol he really love the MC and doesn't want the MC get mistreated.

I love how THE ML IS BEING A SWEET TALKER.

Ding Mo's story, as always, leave traces at my heart. <<less

Ive watched Ding Mo's Love Me if You Dare and I've contemplated whether to read the novel or not, because I'm more on the fluffy side and not the serious type. Ive also watched Our Glamorous Time drama, but there's a lot of altering did in the drama. But I've gotta say, the novel is very good and I regret not reading it sooner!

The scenes will nake your heart beat fast, for many reasons- the fluff, papapa, business dealings and nervousness whether things will go on our CP's way, which... more>> of course it did. Would be good if it didn't though, so we can see a beaten MC and ML.

The romance is pretty good. I won't say more but it will definitely make you squeal!

MC's relationship with her brother is also <33 and it also makes me wonder what happened to her brother but ive yet to read his novel because it's not yet complete.

Anyway, this is a 5/5 novel for me! <<less

It's my third Ding Mo's novel that I've read. Like other 2 novels, I like it much. It's about a former soldier turned into a CEO tries to regain his company's glory after suffering a great blow. With the help of FL, together they become one of the best brand in the country.

I actually don't know much about a business world but maybe that's why I could enjoy this novel so much. Every chapters, I couldn't wait to know what is ML's next move and I always feel satisfied after... more>> reading his opponent's loss. What I love most about him is he never make a move against others unless they make a move on him first. Don't underestimate FL too because she's almost as clever as ML (but less cunning) and she's an independent woman who doesn't rely on man to success (and she proves it beautifully).

But I still find some loose ends that make me quite unsatisfied with how the story ends (and prevent me to give full stars).

Spoiler
  • When I read that both FL and ML's parent are in the same nursing home, I expect they meet several time there and strengthen their bond. But they only met once there (and it's not even in the nursing home but rather in the bus).
  • There is no mention about FL's mother again since the encounter of ML and FL in the bus until suddenly she's mentioned again briefly in the epilogue. And there is no further explanation about FL's family conflict that make her brother doesn't wanna talk to their mother again. I don't why the author bothers to make her character in the first place.
  • FL is clearly interested on ML first and she even gave her phone number to him after their first meeting. So I'm confused why she's playing hard to get when ML confessed his feeling for her.
  • In the end of the story, the author suddenly introduces a new character who is potentially become Lin Mochen's love interest. But that's it. There is no continuation about them or even their back story. It's best if the author doesn't make her character at all in the first place.

Ding Mo, Ding Mo! I love the intricate business war plot, I love the strong, sensible, charming female lead. I can't count the number of times I squealed out loud at various parts in the plot. Chapter 81 made me roll around in bed--for a webnovel, the writing is quite mature and at times, touching. You get the feeling the author has some depth of life experience. It was 'slow, ' but it was the kind where you keep walking on uphill because you know the trip is worth it.

Spoiler

The only part that made me really frustrated was when MC gave ML the controlling share of her company. Like, one step forward for romance, one huge leap backwards for feminism. Oh well.

I just had to write a review for this novel, but a concise one since I'm bad at expressing what I think.

This novel has, by a slight margin, surpassed my favourite romance web novel, Chongfei Manual. If I were to give the latter a 9, then this one would bear a shiny 9.1. I just loved how descriptive the author was when writing both the scenarios and the characters. It feels as if life was breathed into them and I could vividly picture the atmosphere, the interactions between the characters,... more>> as if I was just right beside them, albeit invisible.

Don't get me started on the romance. I could feel the butterflies in my stomach wanting to burst out reading all the instances of romance in this novel. Everytime I read their intimate acts together, I can't help but wish to just rush out my doors to find my own to dote and pamper just as the male lead does to the female protagonist. I went too deep into the novel that I can't help but to look for someone who's just as independent and valiant, yet kind, reserved and as lovable as the female protagonist in the crowd whenever I venture out.

Indeed, absence makes the heart grow fonder. Finishing this work of art has made me realize how happy and whole someone can be just by falling in love with 'the one'. I did not expect to write this many words, but they all come from deep within the recesses of my heart, just gushing forth just like my love towards this novel! (Sounds too dramatic for you?)

Ending this on a high note, it is worth all the stars I've given, but for every moment that I go back to reminscing about this novel, I feel like adding a new star for each one. 10/5, simply amazing writing and topnotch translation. <<less

A good read. I like the comprehensive narrative in this story related to the business and marketing side. I really respect the author for incorporating TSAOW into this story showing deep understanding. One of the earliest translated chinese books/comics I read was TSAOW and ROT3K borrowed from my father so this brings back memories.

I applaud the brilliant commercial scripts for the handbag marketing. It was beautifully written and touching to read.

On the romance side, it was good. They go through ups and downs together and this is the true meaning... more>> of a power couple. The author manage to highlight FL's achievement too towards the end. I wud have been dissapointed if the FL only stays as support to ML without her own success.

5 whole stars to author and translator! 🌸💓 <<less

I dunno at first that this novel was written by ding mo 😅

What I can say this one is not like her other novels.

This novel actually don't have that much conflict on it. Like it only focus on business conflicts not the romance itself. So I dont think this one should be called romance novel, more like this one is more likely business romance.

Lots of heavy stuffs about business is on this novel. Half time skipping those business details. But actually the interaction between FL and ML is great. Theyre... more>> lovey dovey, but as I said before no conflict in between so a bit bland in romance. <<less

Well written! The translation quality is also above satisfactory. The synopsis is too broad, I guess? It leaves off a different impression of what the novel really is. It makes you think that this is just some typical woman's shallow perspective of encountering romance but it's not.

I think that my lack of knowledge about the ins and outs of economics and business in general is what makes it more interesting. There were parts that I can't understand at first and takes more effort for my brain to fully understand, there... more>> were also parts that actually excited me and even fooled me!

I also love the characters and even more with their developments not just in character but also in their chosen careers. What makes Lin Qian even more appealing in my eyes is that she's not soft and easily taken over. She knows that she's smart, capable, and how her emotions can implicate her. She does not jump directly and be swayed that easily with romance. She's not embarrassing to read unlike other FL's who were supposed to be smart but ends up overly s*upid in love. She's not BLIND. She sees the true color of her man, tells him honestly how she sees him, communicate with him and doesn't jump into complex misunderstandings.

About the ML, I like that he's steady. He knows his priorities and despite having strong emotions towards the FL, he still knows when to back down. He's possessive but I don't see it on an extreme level. He still lets her explore her chances and opportunities in the industry. He also gives her time and silently endure his loneliness for her. I think it's cute that he tries so hard to squeeze all the overtime just to vacate a day or so to be with her and he doesn't even want her to find out. Lol, so cuuuuute! I also like his confidence! Others may see it as arrogance but he's got his intelligence and schemes to back him up!

By the way, am I the only one who find his military quotes cringy? Honestly, the first time it didn't bother me but later on, as it kept on being mentioned it kind of cringed me. Hahahaha this is just a small thing tho.

Mini discussed about the side characters: (contains spoiler)

Spoiler

Gu Yanzhe. This motherf*cker really deceived me. I really thought he betrayed Li Zhecheng. Really. I kept on thinking about the possible reasons and no matter how much I think about it, I really didn't think of his character as a shallow as that. That's why I got so disappointed. FORTUNATELY IT WAS ALL A PLAN. I lowkey like him.

Ning Weikai. Ghad. This guy. He's smart and all, okay? I get it. But cheating... Up until now I am still confused and unconvinced with his feelings for his wife. Does he really love her? Even before the cheating happened, this question still popped in my mind. But then his assistant states it like he's so in love with her. And he has also stated it! He treated her like a treasure. His wife is unreliable and insensitive towards him. That's the top reason why he got lonely. At the time when he felt so low and just wanted silence in her arms, instead of giving it to him, she even probed about her family's position. I actually felt brokenhearted for him that time. He felt down and lonely. Then he met this stranger who saw through him and made him wonder how she did it when his wife couldn't? He didn't touch her but still... I feel complicated about him. The ending about him was also vague. Were they able to fix their marriage? I want to know!

Lin Mochen. I was really looking forward about him. He's romance was slightly mentioned around the time Lin Qian came over for New Year's. Like he lost someone or something like that. I just found out that he has actually a novel. Looking forward to it!

I had a bit of expectation for this novel since I have seen the drama adaptations of When He Comes, Close Your Eyes & When a Snail Loves, both from the same author, which I did enjoy though I haven’t read the actual novels. However, I had a hard time finishing this one and it took me too long as compared to my usual reading speed despite it being just below a hundred chapters. I considered dropping it multiple times as it felt very dragging for me, especially the first... more>> quarter of the novel.

It did become quite interesting after the ML’s POV was introduced, since in the beginning you’d really have no idea what he is thinking and feeling given his stoic character. It was quite cute how he is very straightforward but a bit black-bellied and he’d always have those smooth moves towards the FL. I love the FL’s character, she’s sly but she’s strong in her own rights. I appreciate the slow romance between the two, there were not really much complications in their relationship. It’s also nice how they are so devoted to each other and they understand each other well even without the need for words. It’s really my ideal kind of love where you can both see eye to eye and it’s like your souls and minds and connected. I also love the close relationship between the FL and her brother, who is very supportive and protective of her.

One thing I just somehow don’t approve is that the summary is not really reflective of the gist of the plot. I think it just a happened to be a very short part of the novel since the story mostly revolves around corporate stuff. Also, the comedy tag is not much appropriate. If there’s any funny scenes, probably the comedic undertone were really subtle. Although this novel is not really my cup of tea since I’m used to reading novels that gives me adrenaline rush, I’d still say that this one was well-written. <<less

This story makes me wonder how I got my business degree, haha. Although the plot repeatedly does the feint-attack, the methods are different every time, and it does make me wonder how I didn't guess the next move. (I managed to get maybe *one* move right.) I know it's fiction, so it's pretty controlled, but I'm impressed with Ding Mo nonetheless.

The romance aspect was great, but I admit that I was rather disappointed by the MC's sudden turnaround after "the visit". It made her seem a bit flighty, imo.

She went from not wanting to have a workplace relationship and setting him aside to feeling touched when he dropped everything to fly to the other side of the world to see her.... to maybe a couple of days later when she's all "we love each other OKAY!?" I might have liked her thought process better before she realized her feelings. I did appreciate the talk they had about her fears after the Aito feint.

[collapse]

I still liked her and I liked her smarts... I liked her ambition, but it seems that the story is holding her down to the basic ideals for a woman.

I also loved the ML... and I like that the story admits that he is a bit chauvinistic (per translation), hah. I love his smarts and the way he respects her... begrudgingly respecting his ambition apart from him
Spoiler

(but is she ever really apart when a lot of her resources were from him?)

[collapse]

Of course, I also loved Lin Mochen.. and I'm looking forward to reading the novel that centers on his story. It is a little strange that there was no mention of their mother until pretty much the end, though.

Some of the things that made me roll my eyes a bit:

  • MC's relation to all of the top 3 companies
  • the inevitable "our country is #1" that seems to pervade all the novels
  • the "Just for Her" marketing...
  • just completely overlooking money like... talking about a hundred million in private accounts
Don't get me wrong. I still really enjoyed the story... but I can still roll my eyes all I want. ;p <<less

I like this one too, though Id have to say, Im more on the alley of When He Comes, Close Your Eyes and When a Snail Loves. I guess its got something to do with the novel being more on the side of business tactics and such while the other two is on league with crime suspense type of novel.

I like how shes adept to showing her skills and talents. Her relationship with her brother. Their romance is sweet and the snusnu is, well, hot. ???. The reaction feelings here... more>> are more showy,

especially how she reacts with every move he makes, like, when she first figure out his counter attack only when its about to end so she's shock and scared that she knows nothing about him in reality, which makes her taken aback about starting their relationship. Then there's that conversation when she thought his plan is to abandoned theor brand (?), she questions him if someday he will abandoned her too, which gaves the novel a touch that her feeling is raw and real.
