Salted Fish Transmigrated Into An Apocalyptic Book

Description

Jiang Miaomiao transmigrated into an apocalyptic book and became an insignificant cannon fodder. Considering all the brutal encounters behind, she decided to lie down and peacefully wait for death. She stayed at home and lived as long as she could.

In order to eat and drink well before she dies, she stored a lot of supplies.

Unexpectedly, one day a man broke into her house and was even more salty than her. He stayed and refused to leave. Her three boxes of potato chips were eaten up by that man. Her six boxes of river snail rice noodles were eaten up by that man. Her ten boxes of walnuts were also gnawed by that man!

Jiang Miaomiao was furious and decided to drive him out. So she secretly followed him in the middle of the night and saw him walk into a horde of zombies with a knife on his hands. He looked handsome as he easily killed those zombies.

The man came back and washed the blood stains. She was pushed to wake up while she was pretending to be asleep, “Give me a spicy duck neck.”

Jiang Miaomiao gave it to him decisively with both hands, “Eat, it’s all yours!”

A magical thing happened since then, her supplies… Why is it continuously increasing?

Ok I’ve seen many comments hating on it but I quite like it.
it’s one of the most realistic apocalyptic stories

Spoiler

The MC is an average lazy college student who transmigrated into a novel 3 days before the apocalypse began she’s obviously weak she hasn’t learned any martial arts isn’t given a magic system abilities or space basically normal and no way to defend herself. She decides to stock food with whatever money she has and die once the food is over cuz she doesn’t wanna struggle or turn into a zombie which I felt was very relatable.

then one day the ML suddenly shows up and he’s strong basically does all the protecting n uses his brain now I understand why many found MC annoying and useless and sometimes ungrateful but I personally loved her character I would have that kind of mindset if I was in her situation like no way in a week I can suddenly learn to use a knife or fight and I’d obviously think zombies are ugly and scary cant suddenly adapt and be a female god very realistic so overall a good story

Not my cup of tea.

Spoiler

The MC was so dimwitted and everytime she needs help from others, she can only keep on promising that she will do everything for them. As to what that everything is beats me because she does not have any skills nor ability at all aside from depending on the people around her and demanding their help. Her only purpose was being someone the ML sleeps with and nothing else. Even her ability to analyze problem and resolve them was subpar. She will ALWAYS need the help of the people around her. She won't even be able to get out of her house without someones help. That's how useless she was.

As for the ML, he did deserved the useless MC. He was betrayed by his so called friend because he was unable to detect that he was just pulling his leg (he gets emotionally invested real quick. You don't have to do anything significant, just tell him your sob story and he'll be willing to sacrifice himself for you and your family). He was experimented on for 20 freaking years because of how gullible he was and when it was time for pay back, the only thing he did was tie the other person up and left him inside the house without doing anything else!!! Maybe he should have been subjected to those experinments for a couple of years more so he can grow some brains!!!

Utter waste of time. What a tr*shy novel.

You think COVID-19 is bad enough? Think again.

This novel is a refreshing twist on the thriller zombie apocalypse genre. The author used a lot of real-world disasters as references such as COVID-19 breakouts, making it a very relatable, suspenseful, yet interesting read.

But don't be deceived, this is not a thriller, action, or horror story, it's a romcom. It tells the story of how MC and ML strived to build a comfortable life despite all the despairs happening all around the world.

I think we can all sympathize with MC in the... more>> beginning. She stockpiled a lot of basic supplies, tried to grow her own vegetable garden, barricaded herself in the house, and learned how to cook from scratch. It's just that we don't have a human-eating zombie virus looming around, and definitely no opportunity to ransack hotels and jewelry stores.

On the other hand, there are some major plotholes in the novel. As someone living in a disaster-prone zone with basic engineering knowledge, sometimes this novel made me cringe.

Spoiler

Like how the first town they're in was suddenly flooded to the 15th floor of a tower building for days when it never happened before. The author explained how the area was basically shaped like a basin, and the flood control had to be done every year by the human workers. Because of the zombie outbreak, there's no one doing the job and it flooded.

As someone who studied civil engineering I found that logic to be extremely s*upid. Flood control is always done in long term with physical buildings to manipulate the water flow. In this case, there would be a dam that had been built years ago and had at least been enforced a year ago in preparation for this year. Even if the dam could somehow magically break waay outside of the previous calculations (which would mean the water flow is at least 2 times more than predicted based on the data gathered years before, a truly unsual feat unless there's a tsunami), it would not, I repeat, would not suddenly make all the support structures collapse and cause a 15-floor level of flood for days in the city center. There's no case of that ever happening. A dam is not made out of wood, its tons and tons of concrete, even more so if it has an important role to control the water flow of the so called basin-shaped city.

[collapse]

Spoiler

There's also the fact that the last civilization and military base is located in the harsh terrain of Tibetian mountain where there's practically heavy snow and blizzard every now and then, impossible for producing food, and has very little daylight time with extremely low heat. It simply doesn't make sense. A major military base would never, I repeat never, be located on a location that made it extremely hard to fly a plane / helicopter. Even more impossible is locating a long-term refugee shelter over there, since the resources needed are huge (like snowsuits, quilts, reinforced buildings, etc) with no possibility of food production. There's also the fact that the zombies are practically thriving there with the damp and cool environment. Isolated military bases with safety zones are always located in secluded areas with abundant food, mostly took on secluded islands like what MC and ML did.

[collapse]

The author really needs to do a lot more research, but overall it's still a great and rewarding read. It's one of the best zombie apocalypse webnovels I've ever read. The character have enough spunks, depth, and growth, the worldbuilding is superb, the plot is exciting with great pacing, the amount of details is quite impressive, and it's written well. This is one of my most recommended reads in NU. <<less

MC transmigrated into an apocalyptic novel and so she decides to hoard a bunch of necessities. She decides that she will at least live comfortably as a salted fish, until her eventual death. However, a wild ML comes along, and this is where their story begins.

This is a slice life novel, with some action. The majority of the novel focuses on the MC, ML and their dog. This is not an apocalypse novel that involves intrigue and conspiracies between other survivors, but involves finding enough food, surviving against zombies, and... more>> trying their hardest to create the best living environment for themselves.
Spoiler

In fact, the first 3/4 of the novel is focused solely on the MC, ML, dog and zombies. The city that they occupy has them as the only survivors.

[collapse]

I found it really enjoyable to watch the MC and ML transition from being simple coinhabitants, to life and death companions, and to finally lovers. The romance takes a while to be established, which I appreciated as it is more realistic.

Overall, it's a great read. Try it if you're looking for a novel that contains a heartwarming relationship, and a mix of slice-of-life and action. <<less

DO NOT CLICK ON LINKS PAST CH.19. It leads to a website full of pop-up and viruses.

So what to do? Well, get a decent antivirus or just MTL: I've never had a novel's mtl be so clear and grammatically correct. It's nearly as a good as a decent translator's work!

Review: 4, 5 stars

... more>> Well, contrary to what the title, synopsis and cover would make you think, this novel is a little gem.

MC transmigrates into an apocalyptic novel, 3 days before the end of time and a few weeks before her death by zombies trying to flee. So she decides that, on account of her weak frame and utter lack of survival skills, might as well make use of those 3 days to hoard as much food as possible, rent a beautiful and isolated villa and live in contentment as a salted fish till her food runs out and then she can just die peacefully by gaz. That was her original plan till the ML comes up and changes things up!

So why do I like it so much? First, it's got endearing, caring, courageous and grounded MC and ML who, through their day to day lives and interaction, slowly get to learn about each other, care for each other and grow from it. It's not a romantic-romance, the make-belief kind, but a more real and grounded kind where you actually get, as a reader, to understand where their emotions come from and eventually feel just as much for them.

Second, the apocalyptic genre here is simply the setting, there's not too much action, it's more of a chronic of their day-to-day lives under quarantine.

And did I mention that both our protagonists are hilarious? I'm not a fan of comedy (generally because it's too on the nose for my taste) but here it's their small quarrelling and the way they always find a way to problem solve that's both fair and funny. Mc's solution to most problems is just to lay down and wait for death (since that's her fate in the original) and ML is the voice of reason who always bargains her into continuing and pushing through. So between our fatalistic MC and the full of optimism ML, you get a good balance of teamwork and personality. What needs be done will eventually be done while also trying to keep a semblance of normalcy, a microcosm of peace in this hell.

Towards the end it gets a little boring and convoluted but still, as a whole, I enjoyed it.

To sum up this novel, I would say it's like a warm fire in the middle of a raging blizzard: absolutely heart-warming and very much needed :)

So definitely a recommended read! <<less

The only negative point about this story is that it's too short!

I love this bickering couple and their dynamic throughout the story. Other than the ML is a cliche OP ML, the book actually gives a realistic insight of things might happen in a zombie apocalypse. I.e. Diesel generator? Not a good idea! Killing zombies? It's actually pretty gross.

It reminds me of various zombie-apocalypse games a lot.

First off, since I saw a review complain about this, I want to clarify: this is NOT a supernatural zombie apocalypse RPG-style novel with crystal nuclei and powers and shit, this is a classic zombie apocalypse survival novel. (Honestly I'm surprised anybody thinks that kind of thing is "the norm" with zombie apocalypse stories, but maybe that's just me showing my age.)

I MTLed so it was a bit confusing and I had a hard time getting into it at first, but it's pretty good. The FL is a salted... more>> fish just waiting to die, and the ML is a somewhat OP, slightly narcissistic guy. The novel takes a more realistic (albeit ocassionally gross) approach to zombie survival, covering a lot of things other media usually ignore like water supply, electricity, and *cough* the dangers and practical uses of that time of the month for women.

The FL is fine but pretty standard, the real draw for me was the ML. He's skilled but not unreasonably OP, and he's more "realistically manly/masculine" than the usual "josei/shoujo novel manly" or ikemen types. Their interactions are funny and cute, and some of the scenes they get into are more comedic than I think a lot of romance novels are willing to let their story be, it's more like the level of an old romcom movie. It's more of a daily life survival story, so it can get boring and repetitive if you're not into that. <<less

If you're looking for a zombie apocalypse survival story, as I was, we don't stop looking because this novel is not it. MC transmigrates into a zombie apocalypse novel as a cannon fodder and has time to prepare some supplies to let her live comfortably before she dies. She accepts the fact that she cannot service quite well and prepares to live her last days comfortably.

ML barges in after the apocalypse happens and free-loads with her and they end up teaming up and surviving together. Honestly, besides the occasionally zombie... more>> appearance and the fact that they cannot go outside, this will just be a regular novel. The apocalypse doesn't seem to affect her life much, as she will seems very willful and wants to live like normal. Still wants to eat nice food and wash her hair and still has time to argue with the ML about the most s*upid things.

The novel summary makes it sound like ML is OP, but he is certainly not. He's probably just above average in terms of zombie fighting skills (at least so far in the novel) and it was a little bit disappointing. I'm a fan of killing zombies and leveling up, and this is not that type of story at all.

The romance so far is boring. MC is kind of annoying and ML seem like an idiot for being attracted to her. <<less

Wait a moment—I'm still crying.

I love the banter between the MC and ML. I really really love them. They might not be an OP characters in the novel but they were resourceful. MC is a lazyass and tsundere but in a later chapters, you can see her character development. ML is part of my best male lead I ever read. He cared about her and truly think about her well-being.

The main highlight on this novel is their slow building romance. Why?

Spoiler

You should read the novel to know why :P

[collapse]

Okay, back of why I cried.

Spoiler

The reason that I cried is that when ML notices the sign that he will turn into a zombie. He decided to send MC to the base for her safety. He didn't tell her about his plan because he knew that she will stay with him 'till the end.

"I had a dream last night."

"What?"

"I dreamed that the zombies were all dead, and human beings returned to the city. You and I found our respective families, got married, had children, and started a family. On the day of your wedding, you wore a beautiful wedding dress and the diamond ring I gave you. That look is really beautiful..."

His eyes didn't focus, he seemed to be recalling the dream state described, with a faint smile on his face.

Jiang Miaomiao said: "That's just a dream."

I cried to that. Big fat ugly tears coming out from my eyes. I can't help but curse the damned author of why on this settings? Why have you to be so cruel? I know I'm being overreacting but I can't help it y'know?

But I truly applaud of the author's creativity. You couldn't just see it in any other apocalypse novels. The main characters usually were OP and can plan things out, but on this, the characters have to think of what to do and think on the consequences.

I might be on bias now because my emotions on overdrive on Chap. 44.

"

[collapse]

If you wanted to read it, don't worry about the RAWS since the novel is understandable. Don't worry about the angst since I know it will pass by. I stayed on the plot and the characters. I truly fell in love with them. Don't expect a badass action scenes on this novel because our MC is a salted fish. I think all of the badass stuff done by the ML were censored. I know, I know it's a bummer.

I really want to thank hellobiew for translating this! If not for this person, I might not read this gem! <<less

Okay. I read this through mtl. First I wanna thank the author for writing the novel. It was good. Suitable for people who likes slice of life.
Spoiler

okay lets start with the MC. She transmigrated into the body of an orphan in a novel. She hoarded things but was unable to hoard pads. Just thinking about makes me shiver, having nothing yo put on your v*gina when you blood is spilling out. MC is child like I guess. She likes to bicker and is a bit tsundere. She's also kinda useless, no redeeming skills. But I do not hate her.

For ML, apparently ML is actually a 48 year old mercenary. Not 26. They used him as a test subject thus he retained his young appearance. I cannot say much about ML. He's definitely okay though.

This is a really refreshing story about two salted fish.
Spoiler

The MC transmigrated into an apocalyptic book. She's a salted fish and doesn't want to to work hard or fight zombies sp she basically prepared supplies in advance and enjoy the last bit of her life while eating and lazying around until she offs herself. Miaomiao is funny. She's very childish but that's part of her charm.

She's also very aggressive and poor ML had to endure being tempted by her many times. I like the transition in their relationship a lot. You can really see how they were acquaintances, to comrades, then to friends until they became lovers. They also got married in the end and had a baby boy.

MC is still a salted fish and lives the life off an Emperor. ML is basically wife s*ave. I like that the story was focused on the two of them and not the original leads of the book but basically, the female lead, Yuan still stayed true to her character in the book. I can't say much about the male lead of the book since he didn't really appear a lot.

MC and ML lived a happy life in the farm. Their dog also got a girlfriend and gave birth to puppies. MC's instant father is a little pitiful but he treats MC as his daughter and even saved money for her.

I am reluctant to separate myself from this story.... but life that follows right?

This story is not perfect, and it has many points that by particular preference I wanted to be different, but it was still perfect in its own particular way. If I have a complaint it is that I was influenced to be a salted fish with the protagonists, my duties were not very happy haha ....

I love Miao, she has a funny personality that makes me laugh a lot, in the course of history she has evolved,... more>> but without losing her essence, I feel that watching her grow was a little rewarding.
I also love our uncle Lu, he is also a salty fish, but one of the hardworking type and very, very narcissistic kkk

Even with an insignificant prominence I loved the background characters, I wanted them to appear more and have more interaction with the couple of salted fish. Even after all, I felt sorry for Mr. Gu and I wish him a happy life with his "new family" :)

The story itself is everyday life and very funny with its moments of tension and development of the novel step by step, from complete strangers to two people with a great bond and an unprecedented confidence in each other. I would read it again right now, but I'm afraid to really become a salted fish.......

To describe it, it's just slice of life (zombie ver) but it isn't the unrealistic living an undisturbed country farming life. They travel from one place to another once their place is compromised. There may seem some minor plot holes but it can be logically backed up

Spoiler

like why not just go directly to the island from the start; first, it's real far and they didn't have grenades at that time

[collapse]

The romance between the MC and ML isnt abrupt. Weathering through hardships together, they naturally form a familial bond and dependence to each other. The start of the story was humorous however at the middle it was just a repeat of living, running out of supplies, going out to find supplies, then living again which made it a bit slow and boring (but hey its slice of life)

The MC grows to be strong, from the cowardly girl who just wanted to eat good food then die, to a person striving to live a long and normal life with her man. She may still seem weak especially when ML is around coz ML is the one who takes all the zombie attacks, but there is definitely character development on her.

The ML is also quite good, it's my first (?) time seeing an ML that's not overbearing CEO, cold, ascetic, immortal temperament, etc in a chinese novel. He's sometimes annoying, got tempers, etc to the MC, flaws that a normal person would have but his candidness is what makes his character likeable.

There's quite a few flaws to the story (if scrutinized seriously) but I rated it -1 star coz I got bored halfway and the ending is a bit abrupt but it's a good story. <<less

This is what you call a complete novel! I saw a reviewer question why people seem to like it so much despite the annoying characterizations and the dumb decisions the main characters make at times. In this way, I can see their point, but also can say confidently that the reason why the story is so likeable is also for those two reasons! It’s hard to explain, so let me summarize the novel’s premise first:

The FL is a transmigrator who ended up dropping into a cannon fodder character role that... more>> has a very low life expectancy rate. That doesn’t matter very much though. The main focus here is that the novel she ended up in was an apocalyptic one where zombies ran rampant and humans had no choice but to gather together in bases and struggle constantly to survive (no special abilities here, unlike most CN zombie apocalypse novels). Knowing how horrible life will be in this novel, the FL decides to set up a private base for herself and decides to just live freely for as long as possible. She has no intention of making it to the end, she just wants to live comfortably until it was her time. Of course, before her plan is seen through the end, the ML comes knocking down her defenses and the two cohabitate from then on — surviving the tragic end times together.

What makes this story likeable is that the characters grow throughout the story. From the start, to the end, you can see how the FL and ML change little by little. It makes it easy to care about what’s going on in their lives, and it’s hard not to feel distressed when bad things happen. Furthermore, this isn’t one of those self-indulgent novels where the characters always do the right thing. They make mistakes again and again, like normal people. But by learning and slowly growing up, they overcome their weaknesses and grow into a different, healthier version of themselves.

ALL IN ALL... This is definitely a favorite for me! It’s a bit tragic and sometimes the pacing is slow, so I skimmed a bit. But the great characters, the sweet romantic development, and even the setting — which you may think would be dry compared to more exciting CN Zombie Apocalypse novels — is rich in details. Plot is a bit grim some times, but the author never fails to liven up the atmosphere in their own way, which is a great contrast to the darkness of the novel. [As for other considerations! The TL is good quality and the MTL is surprisingly readable — like about 85-90% — so even if the TL isn’t done, it can be read with no issues!]

RATING: 4.65/5

Although I think I may not have liked this as much if I wasn’t in the mood for this kind of deep and complex development, the fact of the matter is that I really enjoyed this particular read! So, my opinion of the novel is quite high despite whatever shortcomings it may have! Definitely recommended~ Won’t be forgetting the characters anytime soon. Their bickering was just my thing! <<less

Pretty decent story. It doesn't have a very intricate plot and they don't meet any people for the majority of the novel, so it's very slice of life-y. Especially since they're both just ordinary humans, and the zombies are ordinary zombies. No one gets powered up with magical abilities that make you covet zombie brains.

I feel the way the MC reacted to being reincarnated into the book is actually more realistic than most other apocalypse stories. She really just wanted to die. Like imagine the horror of knowing what's about... more>> to go down, but you're too weak to stop it and too weak to protect yourself. You have no one beside you either.

The romance was good, it happened naturally and wasn't one of those "love at first sight" romances.

The whole attempt at social interaction and getting back in touch with other humans was kinda meh though. I feel like they really just half assed

Spoiler

taking the ML in for experiments for years and leaving the MC behind.
Then later on, her father.

And also other humans don't really have personalities. It's like they're there, but they're just in the background and you don't get to know them.

Anyway, kind of shallow and got a little tedious to get through the last 15 chapters or so, but it's only 58 chapters in total. Recommend it if you're bored and into this genre. <<less

Well it's basically slice of life in zombie time. Anyway although I thought it would be cliche with her taking FML role of the novel but they didn't meet the ori FML and ML until the end. The original FML and ML are does not have much influence in this storyline. Only at the end they appear and become friends with FML and ml. ML is not OP as the summary suggested. No he also gets hurt multiple times and the reason he is remotely strong has reason as well.... more>> The FML is weak at first and later becomes somewhat strong but still is not that strong. She is as strong as a normal person can get in dire situation. So don't expect any opness from this novel.

The ML was very good to MC. Though they bicker a lot but you can see how much they care for each other. Their relationship is very normal loving relationship with no extra drama. They gave live and die together mindset. They don't give a sh*t about other things And just wanted a normal life. Anyway their relationship is very sweet in a normal way.

This real was very relaxing for a zombie novel. I enjoyed it even though there is nothing special. There is just something sweet in it that keeps you in. I liked it a lot.

THE MTL IS VERY EASY TO UNDERSTAND. I UNDERSTOOD ALL THE NECESSARY THINGS AND OTHERS TOO. 95% IS UNDERSTANDABLE. <<less

Read the first few chapters, got hooked, then read the rest as MTL.

Like others mentioned, it's a slice of life. It details the almost day to day lives of MC and ML in the gradually-growing-hostile apocalyptic environment. In the beginning, MC was quite the pessismist. With her ordinary skills, she was sure she won't survive outside fighting off zombies, so she just planned on living as leisurely as possible, and commit su*cide by the time her resources run out. With the help of ML, she grows throughout the rest of... more>> the story, and learns to fight for her life.

Sure, there are loopholes, but they're not there to drag the story longer, but are most likely there due to lack of research. No xianxia elements; no out of the world medical skills, no unlimited storage space, no cultivation, and no system guide. It's an enjoyable read, and not depressing at all for an apocalyptic setting. 20/10 will recommend. <<less

Unique take on apocalypse novel, the vast majority of the novel only has MC and ML trying to survive the apocalypse together in their makeshift house.

I personally found their interactions very entertaining. ML was the highlight of the novel for me, skilled and doting to the supreme. MC lives up to the novel's title, a salted fish through and through. But paired with ML she has no choice but to work a little harder :)

Now the bad- novel has some pretty big plotholes and logical leaps. As I said... more>> the majority of the novel is just MC and ML... Where is everyone else? You're telling me in the whole city no one else survived? You can make up a few explanations but I still feel it's a bit of a stretch. And ML's background... What the heck lmao

Still enjoyed a lot, recommend if you're looking for a more cute and funny romance apocalypse novel. 4/5 <<less

I don't normally enjoy reading zombie related novels but this one easily goes to my top slice of life, romance comedy list! MiaoMiao and Qiming's relationship development wasn't rushed nor was it slowburn; it was perfect for my taste. I just love their partnership so much! I'm definitely gonna miss them 😭

I could seriously read 50 more chapters of their daily farm life with their son, dogs and of course, MiaoMiao's "dad" Gu Changzhou kekeke
