I've read BTTH and I liked it so I was expecting something more from this but I was disappointed. The story has a hood concept so far but it just looks like it was written on a go without any plan at all.

There is large arc about hundred empires war (HEW) that its so bad it is hard to read. Author says that MC empire managed to get couple of people through previous wars to join the super sect but its just nonsense. Just reading it you see how badly planned that arc was. First there is one empire (saint I think) who looks like is an overlord when MC first come to HEW but later you see that they are just weak empire and there is high level empire who is actually true overlord. But this isnt enough one MC I stronger then high empire ppl there jumps a super empires. Then author describes that HEW is actually dominated by super empires. So my question is how could low ranked MC empire even get anyone through HEW? Not everyone is mc

imo story is full of holes

WDQK was the 2nd series after BTTH that I read. Personally I don't think I like it more than BTTH (I love BTTH's casts more than WDQK's) but I will say the author does some things better here than in BTTH.

Unlike XY in BTTH, LD starts with a vengeance and will pursue it for half the series long. Because of this background, somehow his character is more ruthless than XY in BTTH was. Anyway, like XY did in BTTH, LD is also accompanied by a spirit guru (this time a... more>> marten demon beast ~ who is, btw, my favorite character here). The harem doesn't spread as it was in BTTH, but LD is still quite popular here. Anyway, after he successfully exact his revenge, LD would be plunged in war that would affect the lives of people that he cared about most.

Tbh, the thing that I lament about BTTH is how flat it was after half the series was done. The interaction between characters feels lame and lack the intensity of its early chapters. This is not how it was in WDQK, in fact towards the end, it kind of gets better as there are conflicts and sacrifices that they have to make in order to save the world. The story flows well imho, and it have strong ending, which is a nice bonus to a moderately short work.

All in all, it is a series that I don't regret reading. I have loved BTTH and WDQK was not a disapointing read for me neither, especially because it has stronger ending than BTTH. It also sparks my interest in TGR as I chase for more of WDQK's epilogue. <<less

This is average work for the genre. A good way to pass some time.

Pros

-Decent Cast of reoccurring character, certain characters from the begining areas still show up later in the story.

... more>> -Okay late book romance for the genre

Cons

-The Translation could use an editing, it isn’t WuxiaWorlds best work in regards to this

-Battles ara a repetative and a little unrealistic, the character duke it out throwing flashy moves (which the other character almost never tries to dodge), someone spits out blood and the sequence repeats until someone loses.

Overall I enjoyed this novel and its an example of a novel that is better that its parts.

This novel deserves a 3.3 (NU won’t let me fix the rating <<less

The story is pretty interesting in the beginning seeing how our MC struggles from a nobody to become a top youngster of his generation and the adventure that our MC has experienced is pretty exciting to read. Furthermore, while our MC does have his plot armour and super cheat code, he is shown to be vigilant in his training and u can see that he has to work hard to achieve power. However, similar to many Xuanhuan novels, the plot become more and more repetitive as the story progresses. The... more>> format of the story become more and more like: enter a new map -> level up -> find treasure -> level up -> beat the boss -> move back to step one. Moreover, what I dislike the most about the story is the way that author describe battle scenes, they kinda remind me of battles that you play in Pokémon game. U know when you take turn to attack one another and unless the level gap is way too high, the result will always be the same with our MC stands victorious. This makes the battles sound monotonous and I find myself skimming through most battle scenes (or skipping some minor battle scenes all together). <<less

there some hole in the story... after that flag and foreshadowing mentioned...
in the end the event never take place... or that attribute just forgotten all together... skip.. skip...

in the beginning is not a fatal flaw... we can attribute it to unexpected development or MC strength grow too fast,
but.. towards the end of the story... the progress is too fast and that hole finally became to make a fatal flaw, make the story kinda.. meh...
if I'm not reading this after Completely Translated, I doubt that I have... more>> the patience to wait to read it till the end

at the the beginning I can give 3 star and cause I'm a sucker for romance I can give 3+ for the middle,
but towards the end... I want to give it 1, overall I will give it 2 star.

P.S.
originally I read this novel to wet my appetite to read Battle Through the Heavens...
but from the look of it... look like instead of wetting my appetite.. I lost my appetite instead... <<less

Sad boy needs hardwork to show everyone he and family are not failures. Proceeds to find a magic pool fueled by a magic rock created by ancient uber lord that tells him what to do, gives him power ups and lets him dream-train.

He complains about arrogant people then becomes arrogant himself. Everyone is surprised by his strength even when he is established to be the strongest guy around.

The one chapter that gave me hope is when one of his rivals is shown to have a ancient spirit helping him as... more>> well, this was a chance for some depth; maybe showing this is the real secret to fast growth, finding or being chosen by these spirits and what MC has is nothing too special. I was wrong, right rival and his spirit helper get a powerboost, MC gets something stronger.

MC has mental powers, high grade puppet, pill makers, mountain of money making ores etc.

I guess I should just accept that this genre comes with such characters and power progression built in and stop hopping for something different. <<less

This novel was extremely generic but I enjoyed it, I dunno why.

This is your generic OP artifact outta nowhere weak to strong MC which is slightly sexist (maybe the views of the author but I don't actually mind tbh)

His goal was to kill the generic arrogant young master that crippled his father, getting strong enough to get more of the Waifu#1 pu*sy he already experienced once, surpassing Waifu#2 for the sake of his male pride and killing all the Yimo.

It was generic yes, but if someone pumps out 3... more>> chaps a day to rush to the novels end starting at chap 950 then of f*cking course you'd be interested.

The ending was rushed AF. It was literally summed up by this

Spoiler

Boi will train to peak to be new ancestor realm lolz cuz Waifu#2 can't handle the reaponsibility and burden.

Waifu#2 sacrificed herself for Boi to breakthrough.

Boi get OP magic fetus (why a f*cking fetus!?)

Boi beat baddy find Waifu#2 which continue at sequel.

Edit: you can clearly see the character development based on the reviews I wrote a few years ago. Holy sh*t why did I bother reading this a few years. <<less

Wu dong qian kun is the classic wuxia novel where the MC starts off as weak and gets overpowered later on in the game and that is mainly how you will get hooked up with this novel.

The cultivation stages are from tempered body to Martial Ancestor.

The MC in this novel has an upright personality, morals, and ethics. When it comes to friends and family does everything possible to protect them. When he sets a goal he achieves it.

Overal good novel I recommend it for beginners in the wuxia world.

What I didn't like:

    1. The author looks like he rushed the ending, unlike how the rest of the story got developed.
    2. The ending itself didn't feel too good.
    3. It gets somehow repetitive but all chinese novels are like that.
    4. The romance itself felt forced, the author tried avoiding a harem developing.

Very typical, easily predictable MC.

If MC was a real character, I find it hard to become friends with him.

Although it is a good read. But most of the time, MC can easily surpass trials.
It even come to a point that the novel brewed a character that not that weak, but comes back again and again to annoy MC, everytime MC tries to off that character, the character will be shielded to an escape. But in the end, this brewed character is no match for MC, and surpassed the character... more>> easily.

What I do not like about this is. Other competitors never had a chance with MC, although the novel is trying to showcase some memorable character, in the end. Only MC develops, and not much for the side character.

In that case, the novel should have just not showcased them at all. <<less

MC is a hypocrite who think he's gods gift to man. He's also got disgusting amounts of plot armor, and on top of this nobody seems to be acting like an actual person would. Reading this is a waste of time.

c87 review:
The MC doesn't really have a personality aside from being diligent with his training. Whenever our MC does anything there's always some random bystander looking slack-jawed in awe. There's many ways to show how great a character is, and if you use the same one over and over its really boring!

keeps coming back alive to the point where I now deeply sympathise with enemies of protagonists with plot armour.

Overall it's a good novel with one minor/major annoying plot point that may become the reason for people dropping it, I know I did.

Hmm let's start with that MC is OP and if he's not OP at the moment he faces his opponent it does not matter because within 20-50 chapters that opponent is going to die unless it's his eternal rival.

Also for those who think there is no real plot and just training you have to read more chapters and then the real plot is explained and if you know the real plot you know he is not training nearly fast enough to do what he has to do, nor is he... more>> leveling at an exceptional speed that will make the story bland.

So all in all a 4 star rating is justified because MC does what he says he's going to do and cliffhangers are pretty fun in this novel but for some reason the real plot is hidden from most readers. <<less

I enjoyed the series a lot till they tried to bring in the harem. Every girl he meets is a tsundere.

The plot be like...
1. Strong lin dong. Meets the beautiful tsundere.
2. Reveal his prowess. The girl falls in love. He leaves.
3. Meets formidable guy. Survives the encounter.
4. Have a fortunate encounter. Gets massive powerup.
5. Beats up some guys. Gets famous. Leaves.
And repeat.

Other than that story is decent.

Man I hardly write reviews but sometimes I feel I have to. To warn people of the journey they're about to embark on. This story is pretty typical; its a fun a read only if you can actually just benje read all of it. Maybe. I haven't read all of it, but from what I read it very annoying very often. If you've read my other reviews you would know how much I despise when the story is dragged out. This story fall under that category. I hate that the... more>> writer has to drag things out, just because he can't think of anything. He also the issue of making the main character way to op for anyone in the last few arcs that the writer keeps resorting to writing bullshit. He keeps making bs power rankings that were never heard of till much much later in the story. Next he keeps giving the main character more op ability and things, but he doesn't know were to take the story causing a lot of dragged out matches. Making the story feel extremely force. Also, the main villain is so so underwhelming as a villain to the point where it's annoying reading about him. The writer for some reason keeps forcing the villain to continue one even to be should have died over 100 chapters ago. The villain has some strong plot armor. Plus the writer like to force the plot. The story is pretty much 4 big arcs and a ton of mini arcs. And each big arc has about 100 chapters. So annoying. Anyway I would give a higher grade if the translation was already completed or at least released multiple chapters a day, but the translator doesn't; so the average translation speed doesn't help it. I would even give it a lower score just because of its average translation speed, but today I'm having a good day so I'll let it slide and give a 3. <<less

I have to say that for a large portion of this it is a fine and enjoyable novel, if a bit full of cliches and familiar plotlines. However, recently I've started to notice that the author doesn't remember exactly what he wrote and references past events incorrectly or forgets about an OP power the MC has had since the very beginning. For example, the first time he mentions Nirvana pills and the number necessary to tackle the Nirvana boundary he says 1800 pills are necessary. But then 50 chapters later,... more>> he says 100, 000 Nirvana pills is a small price to pay for entering the Heaven Spirit Realm which is the analogous level of power for the Mental energy cultivation side of things. All of these are individually minor incidents, but since I've been bingeing they've started to detract bit by bit until the current moment where I had to take a break from reading in order to write this. All in all, a fairly standard albeit fast-paced novel. If you read on a week by week basis, you probably won't won't even notice my complaints. <<less

2-star. I took off an additional star because I can't believe how bad the dialogue is. Every battle, the enemy will ambush or attack the MC. The enemies will attack and say the MC forced them to. They state they will kill him. Towards the end of the fight, as they inevitably start losing, they all yell "if you don't stop, we'll have eternal eminity" or "you'll regret killing us". Jesus, every time..

And, the plotting is so bad.. every fight is with an enemy exactly 1 level higher than the... more>> previous. Uh huh...

Reviewed at Chapter 319

So we're almost a quarter of the way through the entire story and we're still getting the same cycle of events that has somehow kept me interested. Don't get me wrong, I actually like this novel. Yes, all the MC does is start out weak, obtain a mysterious object and improve rapidly in cultivation while offending every single sect possible on the way. But don't worry. This guy has the luck on his side. I don't know if it's Lady Luck or just all... more>> the luck in the entire world but MC always powers up or obtains items just in time before someone tries to kill him... because he had offended someone they knew. To be fair these enemies were the ones to instigate the cycle of hate and revenge.

Side characters enemies, allies are all there as stepping stones for the MC to power up but one particular think I liked was the determination of the MC to obtain his goal. Sure he makes detours everywhere, makes s*upid decisions (which I'm okay with because he has the power and luck to get out of his problems) but in the end he's still working towards a goal. I look forward to seeing when and how he reaches his goal. Oh and not to forget seeing what new technique or treasure he obtains on the way.

TL;DR This novel can be ridiculous to the point it's interesting. If you're looking for something with much more substantial character development or struggles in cultivation Wu Dong Qian Kun isn't for you. You're better off reading Battle Through The Heavens, another novel by this author which I enjoyed in a difference sense. But if you're looking for something for a light read, a good laugh, or you just need a gary-stu novel to read I would recommend this.

---EDIT---

So I found an audiobook for this series too and I'm on a roll with these.

Spoiler

Lin Dong finds his true love. Give this guy a round of applause. He truly learns to love and it's nice to see some proper romance happening that doesn't necessarily involve dual cultivation and making break-throughs that way. Okay, so I did kind of skim through the parts where he's closing up to make breakthroughs. Those laws of the heavens can get repetitive. I know what's coming. But things explode close to the end. Every tiny plot accumulated up until now just explodes and I loved it. The end left me chucking a pillow at the wall in a good way. With every gain, there is a loss.

I will be moving onto BTTH and see how everything comes together in TGR. <<less

Like that wasn’t enough, the character that been built up for 300 chapters ends up being a stuck up idiot with 0 morals as a protagonist which just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. While I like the writing style I think the plot is very inconsistent before the family tournament after which I think it should be a little better.

As a conclusion this novel is riddled with problems but I think that it is worth the time if you are trying to find new novels and are reading all the top ones already. But if you dislike PMG this is just a slightly milder version with more luck and a item which is so broken that there is no equal. The author has 2 other good novels so I expected betterm quite disappointed in this work overall. <<less
