Ethan, the former secretary working for the Energy Bureau of Earth Union, was detained in a place called ‘Forbidden City’ after being deprived of his moral value points for committing treason. Everyone in the city is tr*sh among humans. They have to continually go on specified hazardous and terrifying missions for the sake of atonement and to exchange moral values points. If their moral value points reach 100 one day, they would obtain a chance to be released from the Forbidden City and return to the world of the humans to restart their lives as a human. But it was said that once someone enters the Forbidden City, no one can come out alive.

Ethan just wanted to live, but from his first mission, he felt like he had descended into a whirlpool of terror. In front of these huge monsters that could devour the entire universe, he can only keep falling.

This novel is inspired by Lovecraftian horror.

My expectations very pretty high for this novel but I was disappointed. I don't like MC, I really don't like him, he is a coward and a hypocrite. I can't get over how pathetic he is, how needy, weak willed and shallow. He is boring and a conformists. ML on the other hand is just bizarre, I hate how I couldn't trust him for even a second the whole time. ML is such an important part of the story but I can only think that there was a mismatch during... more>> role audition? it doesn't make sense for them to fall in love. They have no chemistry, no tension their interactions are so dry and bland... <<less

It's heart breaking. I need comfort. I've been hit too hard.

I only read this for 1 1/2 days but it feels like an eternity.

My heart hurts. I need to read my comfort novel.

... more>> Bruh in the first half of the book I really really want the MC to blacken and when he did blacken I regret. I REGRET. I'm sad now.

Everything is ssooooo goood I'm crying

Whether it's BE or HE. For me, it's HE. But it's still sad. It's a sad happy ending. It's kinda open ended if you think about it. There's still many things that haven't been wrapped up.
Spoiler

I hope the worms didn't die

[collapse]

Spoiler

This could've been a 1000 chapter novel telling about how they conquered the universe. Anyways it's kinda open ended. I'll just imagine them becoming overpowered and defeated the tyrannical reign (lol) of the God of Chaos and Order

[collapse]

Spoiler

I'm still wondering wtf is the purpose of the God of Order

[collapse]

Really disturbing at first. It's supposed to be disturbing but I slowly got used to it. Probably because I read the first half of the novel during night time and the later parts during the day. I had nightmares.

I really really like the lore.
Spoiler

about the God of Chaos and the God of Order

[collapse]

The world building is really good and the characters and their development.

The setting is in the future, omegaverse. And the MC is in a utopian society
Spoiler

that he's about to ruin himself lol

[collapse]

It's omegaverse so there are bound to be people hiding their gender.
Spoiler

Jonathan Samuel and Rafael Shneider ;-; I'm still crying for these two. I hope the little Rafael and little Samuel didn't die

[collapse]

Btw MC is a beta and ML is an Alpha. An interesting match.
Spoiler

Bro I was like there's no way they're gonna f*ck so early in the book. Guess what??they did. With no details : ( ((

[collapse]

The background of the characters are so sad : ( ((

Just read the novel lmao I can't explain this novel in words. I might just write a hundred page essay but I'm lazy so no.

No one told me spoilers so I was anxious the whole time I was reading. I don't like (though I don't really hate it either) reading sci-fi novels because it gives me an existencial crisis. Most sci-fi novels get references from actual stuff in reality and thats why it feels so real. And I like reading fantasy novels more because they're unreal. Fantasy novels makes me feel stable because there's a distinct boundary between reality and fantasy BUT reading this novel made me realize that this unsettling feeling feels wonderful. This novel made me see a new world :) hehehe
Spoiler

I still hope the worms didn't die even though they might cause another apocalypse

Highly recommend! I could really gush on and on about how fantastic this is.

Unique and eclectic mix of Lovecraftian horror, ABO dynamics, and sci-fi elements. Super thrilling to read with the plot leaping in unpredictable directions, great world-building and a well-paced plot.

Strengths

  • Brilliant world-building. MC lives in a dystopian Earthian society that rules with an iron-fist. He is demoted to a nonhuman after committing a crime and losing morality points. As a nonhuman, he is tasked with dangerous experimental interstellar missions. It’s gradually revealed that there are complex political and religious factions running in the background. What is amazing is that this information is smoothly incorporated and hinted inside the story without being an info-dump
  • No plot holes in sight. Author has done her research - even the heavier sci-fi concepts (e.g. space-time rips, antimatter experiments, parallel dimensions etc) and pseudoscience seem to make sense and doesn’t seem far-fetched
  • MC is well-developed and realistic. He acts his age (30) and feels very real - he isn’t OP and he particularly clever or strong. He acts very reasonably in the countless life-death scenarios. He can be cowardly, selfish and fearful, other times courageous and righteous... His character and personality is well-fleshed out,
    Spoiler

*spoilers which makes his descent into madness/alien transformation super interesting*...

    [collapse]
... there is definitely character growth.
  • ML is a mysterious alien priest. MC and ML’s relationship is really interesting, it isn’t particularly romantic (at least, not at this stage) - rather, it makes me uneasy. There’s a lot of mystery surrounding the ML.
  • The overall mystery is super exciting and grand - mysteries surrounding the Lovecraftian gods, what happened in the past, MC’s inexplicable connection to these mysteries..,
  • Horror is genuinely scary - there’s gore of course (people dying in cruel and unusual ways and a lot of body horror) but there is also intense psychological horror. The deeply unsettling horror of the unknown permeates throughout the entire story. The allusions to giant and unfathomable alien civilisations, chaotic gods, space-time holes is so unsettling. The author cleverly weaves psychological horror into the story. Small things going off-kilter can be quite creepy... like
    Spoiler

looking out to space and seeing the planets are not spherical, or seeing an extra moon in the sky that should not be there, or finding a child’s handprint in an abandoned town but the fingers are all the same length.

    [collapse]
  • Interesting side characters
  • The missions are unique and intense. Mission 1 - investigate space/time rip in a strange world. Mission 2 - partake as experimental rats to monitor the effects of entering a parallel world. Mission 3 - foil the rebellion of horned-aliens.
Weaknesses

  • Heavy sci-fi elements. If you don’t like that, then I’d say skip this one
  • MC is not OP. He is pretty ordinary and can be spineless and is generally a diplomatic and mild-mannered guy. Though, he is NOT a flat character. His mellowness is not a weakness, but people might not like that.

okay here ww have one of the best ABO novels in term of plot. first the main couple are Alpha X beta and you'll never see the cliche of pheromones matching suddenly heat etc... second the story is very amazing and scary, its kinda like darren shan novels with describing with horrible details. I had goosebumps all of my body when I reading it and now I have little truma with insects, so if you dont like disgusting things like insect layed egg in human body etc dont read it..

the... more>> good points

first the plot, its really attract my attention and I like it. scary and disgusting novels arent my cup of tea, especially bl, I like to read light and fluffy bl but this novel is very good and I cant stop myself for reading it, , I like the ending too, its best ending for this novel, second the events...i cried so much that my eyes became red, MC and ML are really pitifull, its like all of the world wanted them to lost their every things, their hope their family and... MC is more pitifull, all of the novel I think how poor he is, everyone wanted to hurt him and take his special persons, his power growing and the progress of his body change is intresting too, I like the romanse for main and side couple too, their really pitiful and in their tribble world heal their Wounds, its not like other fast born omegaverse story ot love at first they fell in love after many interaction
Spoiler

at first I think its love at first but when I read ML's intent I find the true

[collapse]

the bad point

i like the mystery of the book but some events arent clear at all, like MC mother's behavior or what happend to his father in the end or why some races wanted other god even though all of the world when he'll appear are going to be distroyed, or about worm race in other planet, what happend to them in the end, the two worm I mean, I cant find another bad point other than this, maybe the lack of hot scene? LOL.

MC

poorest MC I have ever seen, he is really miserable,
Spoiler

at first he lost his mother in young age then his father didnt like him at all then his love betrayed him then he sufferd very much in that f*cking city then his lover and his friend dead and all of the people around him hit him and tortured him

[collapse]
I think author really doesnt like our MC, even villains in novels hadn such dog blood life, but for the ending I can forgive author

ML

okay ML has more complicated personality than MC, we see him as gentle and carrying person who loved MC in any sittuaion but suddenly
Spoiler

we realised about his contract and I myself can only say f*ckk, , , even you didnt like our baby, then who are going to be his lover and treat him kindly, all of the people around him are b*tchs you should at least... at that time I really felt disappointment and think author what the f*ck do you want ??!!at least kill our baby so he wouldnt have sufferd more but ML suprise all of us and I felt pity for him too, he was a child after all and similar to MC

[collapse]
here we havent so cliche story that ML is very possessive alpha etc, yes he sometimes felt jalous but thats all, he used all of his abilty to protect our MC,

CHARACTERs

f*ckkkkkk.... the side characters of this story are really special, and their miserable life, you know the environment is that f*cking city and this is dark novel so you should be prepeard to cryed like a bit*h and eat dog blood and see many person have killed,
Spoiler

i really feel pity for our two omegas... I wish they'll live in that worms and going to live together... how miserable their lifeeeee T T even thinking about it my eyes become teary

[collapse]

so yes its f*cking good story, if you want something heavy, scary, full of gorn and violence, make you cry like a bit*h and charming plot and good romance, I think you should try it, <<less

Cause I saw the reviews on how the ending is open ended and kinda sad I read it. And imo:

Spoiler

it wasn't a sad ending, it was an open ending for sure but the implications were positive so it's actually sort of a HE that wasn't so openly conclusive. It ended in a positive note so give it a try if you're interested.

This is my first time reading space horror, and I really enjoyed it. Incredibly surreal worldbuilding and grotesque imagery that I could never dream of. Pretty amazing that the author wrote this while she was in school, and it's a shame how obscure this novel is on JJWXC. (Please buy a few chapters if you can. I know I will, because if the math is mathing, then it's less than $4 USD to unlock all her chapters. Small fanbase writers put in so much work for so little pay.)

Other... more>> reviews have pretty much said it all. Ethan isn't a hero, and Taisiel isn't his saviour. They're pitifully fallible to forces larger than them, yet still their love endures beyond space and time.

To be real though, I don't think I'll read another tragedy again, even if it's open-ended. Really not my thing, I feel terrible about life lmao. <<less

This novel is the immersing kind of novel. Every part of it, every word, is engraved with a certain degree of darkness and I would dare to say despair, but still, it can overwhelm you with pure emotions in the moments you think neither you nor the protagonist will be able to bear it anymore.

It's enveloped with mysteriousness, even if at the beginning it seems quite straightforward, as the story unfolds, it gets more and more tangled in mysteries. Questions continue to arise but you can only speculate about what... more>> will happen next.

The characters, mainly the protagonist, are amazingly developed and complex. You can fill his despair, sadness and joy, you get to know him so well you feel overwhelmed by his love whilst you get to understand it alongside with his fears. The protagonist is such a well fleshed out character you get immersed in his all, you can come to understand him to such a degree the empathy you gain is unbelievable.

The relationships between the character are equally complex, to say it they're limited to love and hate, like and despise, would be utterly wrong, they go beyond that, their emotions and interactions are interwoven in such a way they conform real human relationships and in the main couple's case I would even dare to say it goes far beyond them.

The plot is superb, it is well constructed and with little to none loopholes in sight, what needed to be said was said and what needed to be omitted was omitted as well, the world the author constructs, if not one of a kind, at least bears some uniqueness that makes it specially immersing.

I believe this is a story that can shake you to the core, it blends with you emotions little by little until it has completely engraved itself on your heart. It's the kind of story that every time you recall it will make you feel a bittersweet taste on you tongue, as if you were filled with regrets, but in fact you also have none.

It shows a nasty side of humanity, displays the selfish and manipulative nature of the human beings we're all so familiar with in such a way that makes you sigh and question what we even are. Still, there exist the sweet contradiction, like the ray of light we all want to grasp amid darkness, the author exposes the noxious human nature, constantly pulling the characters down, and throwing them into maddening despair, giving the illusion there is nothing worthy fighting for anymore, still the characters are filled with the desire to love and be love, the desire of peace, even at the darkest times the main character is moved by love and longing, quite idealistic, isn't it? As if even knowing how ugly humanity is there still existed the faint hope not everything is doomed.

All I have to say is that this story has taken root in my heart and blossomed, after reading I can only sigh, though I don't even sure what I'm sighing for, are they sighs of longing, of regret, of satisfaction, or of pain? They seem like so, but also not.

I feel I've taken much from this story and this story has also taken some things from me, whether it's spiritually, emotionally or even philosophically speaking. I've got many things to reflect after reading and I would want to say that this novel is completely worth reading, in my humble opinion it's worth anyone's time, I'm not saying it's perfect or otherworldly, this novel is just itself, but being it elf is enough to make it wonderful. <<less

Have you ever read a story that tells you 'this will surely break your heart' and yet you just can't stop reading it?
This is how I feels with this story. The horror is *chef kiss* super, I mean, if you like The Thing, like me, then you will love the body horror in this story. The character? They all are lovable, even the villain, as in 'I would love to hit them with a chair' and Ethan, oh Ethan, dear author, you are a sad*st but thank you for writing this story.

This is a literary masterpiece. I cannot explain how well done this novel was. It was extremely realistic, I was so devastated when I found out that this was the only novel from the author that was translated, I want to read more from them TT

The plot was so GOOD. It all made sense, the foreshadowing ah... so good, you really should read it! I even put my school work on hold just to read it HAHAHA which is bad so I don't recommend doing that. The plot was well... more>> done, applaud the author, it was really unforgettable.

The characters? MHMMM THEY'RE ALSO AMAZING, SO HUMANE, SO CRUEL TO EACH OTHER JUST LIKE HUMANS !! Although I do think that some side characters don't have much depth into them unless they're relevant to the story but I think that can be overlooked.

Ethan, our MC, which I adore so much, is very human. His responses to each situation were well done and relatable. His mindset is also understandable, it was more like he was a human striving for survival and not just an OP protagonist. He is morally gray yet has mercy.

His character will stick to me forever, he's memorable just like that, Ethan Eldridge is a unique protagonist that has flesh and blood. He has daddy issues and attachment issues, which is what makes him who he is right now.

I honestly don't understand the hate that Ethan gets, the point of the novel is not how strong or OP he is, it's about how many weaknesses he has. He is weak-minded because of his environment, is it that hard to understand? What do you expect from an adult who is just living for validation and has never been given affection his whole life? Y'all see a character that you can't sympathize with and start calling them weak and shi smh

Just say that you don't like him because he has normal reactions, unlike your OP aloof, ice-cold MCs who can scheme and has experience in fighting. Tanisiel's love is his lifeline. He was a person who craved affection, and he finally got it... do you think he's willing to let it go?

Tanisiel, our ML, whose last name I don't remember, is very suspicious, but I LOVE him !! I don't know, I just like his overall vibe and personality, he has this calming charm into him, even if he's not THAT genuine towards MC, we all know that he loves Ethan with his whole heart, he also gives a sense of security if that makes sense.

I always look forward to his scenes, probably my fav character besides Ethan. He has daddy issues and religious trauma which made him relatable despite not being human.

There is also a side CP, ahh, I cried so much for them, I was trying so hard not to cry.

Reading ABYSS overall is an unforgettable experience, my mind was opened to a new view of the world. I understood certain groups of characters better. There are also topics in real life that are tackled in this novel which makes it even better, not only is it entertaining, it will also make you realize certain stuff and how messed up the worlds are, and how humans will treat each other in special situations.

I cried I laughed, I felt lost, I felt miserable, I never knew that I could feel so many complex emotions just by reading a novel. I love it so much, I want to get amnesia just to reread this again for the first time. A MUST-READ!! I also think the ending was very fitting, open, but on a positive note, and it makes you create your own speculations. IDK HOW TO EXPLAIN MY LOVE FOR THIS NOVEL AAAAAH <<less

4/5. Would recommend a read. It's quite MTL-able. Futuristic sci-fi novel gradually turning into a more doomsday-type deal. Tons of action with alien monsters and whatnot. Tons of disturbing gore and violence. Tons of angst and depression. It feels like you're reading about how the MC slowly becomes insane. The only ray of light in the midst of the author's brutal onslaught of negativity is a sweet romance between the main couple.

The summary says that the author was inspired by Lovecraftian horror, and it definitely feels that way. We have... more>> the standard sci-fi intergalactic setting. There are multiple races living on unique planets and ecosystems and political friction. And then there's a whole lot of talk about gods, supernatural otherworldly beings beyond the scope of human understanding, etc.

The story was solidly written. No real loose ends. Not exactly a HE but not really a BE.

For weaknesses, the novel is a little flat with characters. The MC is very well fleshed out, and the ML is okay. One other character is detailed. Everyone else comes off as monotone, but they are also largely unimportant. It just makes the novel feel a bit less immersive. <<less

Me managed to finished Falling into the Abyss in 1 day despite having a busy day by stay up all night. Start reading at around 5/6 PM; really guys, for those who's kinda timid like me (+don't like horror) you should probably start reading when there's still sunlight and not alone ba 😂

Me reading this at midnight is like

*check surrounding, check under the bed* 😖

... more>> But still continue reading because I was addicted 🤠

Pst, only the beginning is kinda scary, not really scary after you got used to it (only applied to someone who's not used to horror and is afraid of terrifying thing in your own imagination 😹) <<less

Haha wow this novel was something else. Definitely AMAZING, but wow, I was not expecting that. Kinda didn't process any of the tags nor look up what Lovecraftian horror was, honestly, I probably should have. But either way was not disappointed. This novel is just so well-crafted and absolutely amazing. It is surprisingly a lot more interesting than you would think. I really don't want to spoil anything, but I'll say a few things.

The way the characters are created is really well done, the main characters all have a lot... more>> of depth and some of the side characters come back and play reoccurring roles, which is nice. Not every single character had some sort of in depth personality, but all the core characters did and their impact on our main man Ethan was also very interesting. There are just these characters, that have no reason meeting each other normally, coming together and forming an interesting story. I love the two leads! They're very similar but also very different, I love their interactions especially. I actually do like Ethan, I find his antihero sort of character endearing, he's not this perfect and inherently strong protagonist. Like sure, he is special in a way, but due to reasons that I'm not going to spoil, this sole specialty he has isn't really awe-inspiring or beneficial to Ethan. The thing that makes him different, is whats stopping him from being happy. I also love our male lead (I cannot spell his name whatsoever). He has a bit of a conflicting motive and you don't really see his true thoughts until much later. I really do appreciate his growth and developement throughout the story. I also love his interactions with Ethan, ML is the only one who is willing to love Ethan completely and its so heartwrenching all the troubles they go through.

The best part of this story has got to be Ethan and the interesting world surrounding him. Big spoilers about pretty much anything surrounding his character, so I won't say it.... only one thing
Spoiler

Not Ethan being evil Jesus.... like what?

[collapse]

THE STORY IS SO INTERESTING AND COOL! I LOVE THIS WORLD THEY LIVE IN AND ALL THE THINGS IT LEADS ME TO PONDER ABOUT. very cool. Also the situation of the main characters at the beginning being in this fascinating dystopia is really interesting. I do think it would have been interesting to delve deeper into the dystopian earth society, but at the same time it isn't really what the novel was about in the end. I do really love the later half of the story, it is really awesome watching Ethan discover these things about the world he lives in.

Spoiler

I almost pissed my pants while reading about the God of Order dream the first time Ethan had it. I don't know what it was but the danger mixed with the idea that if you can see them, then they can see you is just terrifying. Also the God of Disorder, how things aren't the way they should be is kind of terrifying in its own way

[collapse]

Ending, its not a bad ending perse, but I wouldn't say it is the best ending (for my poor and sad heart). I wasn't dissapointed and the ending was completely set up in a reasonable way and it really fits the characters, I just feel a bit sad. It reminds me of the book Little Mushroom in a way, but it's also totally different. I think this was probably the best way to end this story, not in a sad way since the people we cared about are pretty happy in the end, I just don't appreciate being left on a sort of cliff hanger. Very rude. It would be interesting if the author had written a sequel, but I also think it may ruin this masterpiece of this novel.

I don't get why this novel isn't more popular. It is really well written and extremely interesting. I mean it isn't for everyone because of some of the more somber and dark themes and goreish parts, but for those who are more open to that, I truly recommend this novel. I don't believe I've ever seen another novel quite like this one. <<less

I should have read the reviews and prepared myself before reading this. Now I need my comfort comedies to overcome this. (I DIDN'T expect to be hit with so many feelings yikes. Like it isn't that bad considering what I've read in the depths of the net before but Ethan didn't deserve the sh*t he went through.)

Normally I'm quite okay with reading angst or tragedy etc but this, this really hurt. My god I just want to give MC some hugs and all the softness in the world. The... more>> author is really an S a super S... The author makes Ethan such a complex and compelling character that I can't help but emphasize with him. He's the most well fleshed out character and as we see more of his emotions and memories we become more attached so the pain hits harder.

I really appreciate that there are no clear good or bad characters. Most including MC are morally grey and for once MC acts his age. I don't like ML though. Even till the end he gave me sus vibes. (Obviously after his true motive is revealed and he actually confessed to MC I accept him somewhat) From the first moment I saw him he gave me a weird vibe so I don't trust him. (Till he did the whole sacrifice shenanigans)

No character is actually sincere to MC so MC's first gut instinct was completely correct. Don't trust ANYONE.

My god, Ethan's past especially caused me immense heartache cause I have gone through something similar (though it was with friends) and betrayal just utterly devastated me for more than a year. I still have trust issues now. (So I find him being attached to Tanisiel a bit unrealistic but it's probably the suspension bridge effect plus his own desire for survival so I can understand)

Also while I do feel bad for Ethan I did enjoy his blackening process. (Yes I love characters abandoning their morals and embracing the chaos and carnage) That was super fun though it did cause Ethan pain too.

The plot is also beautifully unfolded as the author very carefully reveals what we need to know and omits what we don't. It doesn't feel cumbersome.

The horror is written wonderfully and there's no plot holes and everything ties up together beautifully. Each and every horror creeps in wonderfully and I couldn't put this story down. Can you understand how much the feels hit you when you can't stop reading even through the roller coaster of emotions? Yeah. This is that good.

Also though the God of Order wasn't mentioned much it's involvement in the entire plot which is revealed in the end shocked me cause I didn't expect it at all. Cause even till the end most of the focus was on the God of Chaos so I thought the God of Order won't play a role but Author surprisingly used them well
Spoiler

(the God of Order is the most smart and devious mf in the story) It outsmarted the God of Chaos and even used MC and ML as pawns without them knowing... How scary

[collapse]

I do think the ending is suited to the story tone even if it's not exactly a HE. (but for me it is a HE because Ethan finally gets his wish even though it's in a twisted way) (Also Samuel and Schneider deserve happiness)
Spoiler

even as cute world devouring worms

[collapse]

The sci fi elements are also great and the omegaverse world building in this story is really great. It feels so natural that it feels distinctly unique.

Basically I recommend everyone to give it a try. 4.8/5 stars <<less

My head hurts.... Just finished reading and my head hurts from crying so hard.... But read this!!! Read it and let's share the pain! (⊃。•́‿•̀。) ⊃

At first, the protagonist may look weak, timid, and submissive but he's actually brave, strong when pushed the limit. He's kind and caring but the people around him is pushing him to blacken which is really hateful... (Actually, I was looking forward to that but when he did... I just... *Sobs) I kinda felt conflicted about that cause I just want to destroy... more>> these humans who caused our MC to feel sad- at the same time, worried about his mentality, he keeps being betrayed over and over again...

Oh, btw the ML is an alien 👽 + priest. They're relationship wasn't actually what you call healthy AND they know that they're only using each other. I really can't help but be suspicious about this guy in the early chapters I mean-- he's just so mysterious. He looks kind on the outside but he has this weird aura of evilness? In addition, he's a narcissist :-P. And as I read, I gradually grew fond of this CP they're so funny ಡ ͜ ʖ ಡ but makes me sad at the same time (っ˘̩╭╮˘̩) っ

The side character's backstory is really sad.. hays... Nothing here isn't sad...

This story really as the title says: "Falling Into The Abyss"... after hope, then despair came- and as soon as your about to fall in the abyss, the hope came again, until it shatters you.. only left with despair... I watched our MC and the supporting characters struggled to get out of cycle, they just want to live freely... and the ending? Hmm.. can't say if it's HE or BE to you but for me, I think it's already a good ending... I'm happy but at the same time-sad..

Be warned though! This has gore, really bloody and there's insects Ugh! I really can't deal with bugs I'm really wondering how the heck did I get past those chapters so, don't eat when reading this! There are discrimination too in Omegas Tbh, I'm really not a fan of this ABO novels but this, it's so good! Really good! Every time he goes to a mission, its always making me anxious haha but at the same time, excited.

That's the end of my review! If you have no problems of what I've said so far then go and read this!!! Experience my pain!! Muwahahahaha! <<less

AMAZINGGGG. I don't know how else to describe this novel.

Personally, I really loved the MC's morally grey character. For the situation he is in, being too kind and nice and warm-hearted is clearly not a good thing for him and may even lead to his demise. I also enjoyed how he is both strong and weak! Usually MC's are all either strong or weak but in this case, our MC is both.

Something that I hate a lot is how even though his wish is sooo small and easy to fulfil,... more>> he can't get it. He wants love and to be loved by others. However, people around him kept betraying him a and disappointing him.
Spoiler

Even his dear parents are disappointments.

[collapse]
Tbh, if we stand from the perspective of others, we will understand that they did all of those bad things to our MC because they wanted to live or gain some kind of benefits, or simply to make use of him for their beliefs. But I stand on our MC's side so I got really upset when everyone MC cares for stabbed his back. Someone please love him!!!

Next for our ML, we all clearly knew that he was close to MC for some unknown purpose. However, as he was treating MC kindly, showing him care and concern, we can't help but hope that he would not betray our dear MC. In the end, even though he did not betray our MC's trust, he still brought him pain and sadness.

Spoiler

For those that claim that ML did not genuinely care and love MC, I would like to disagree. There were many moments where we all can clearly see that the ML really loves our MC (though at that point it might not be more than what he sincerely hopes to achieve. but I can't really blame him since he has been working hard for it for 13years and he can't really give up on it just because someone suddenly appeared in his life right?? that would be too sudden and weird?). For example, when our MC is in pain and suffering, ML would always transfer at least half of the pain to himself. He clearly did not need to do that since the MC will not fall or die due to that pain but he still chose to do it because he doesn't want MC to suffer such pain alone. If this isn't love then what is???????? Anyways, I would just like to say that I hope people reading this novel can think in a more open way and not blame or hate on our ML. Tbh I find him really cute :>

Overall, I really enjoyed the novel. Though the MC was betrayed by so many people and even felt so dead inside, I still enjoyed it. The plot was great and the characters have depth and development. The whole thing is like a carrot and stick approach. Like the author gives us pain and suffering then toss us some candies so we can't stop reading the novel 🥲🥲. The ending is kind of like a slight positive but still an open ending, there is some kind of hope that there will be a happy ending for both the MC and ML. Though I don't really know how they can be happy in reality since the MC is not really 'himself' anymore if you get what I'm saying. But... let's just hope that they can have their happy ending.

My heart truly breaks for the MC! I've never read a shou who had undergone so much pain and sadness, I wanted to smack the writer's head sometimes because I feel bad for Ethan. lol I mean author, he just wanted love!!!! Is that even hard?!!?!? ugh my life!! I wanted to hug him and hide him from the world.

Ethan's the sweetest and most pitiful shou ever, from the very start until the very end he experienced pain and suffering, ... more>>
Spoiler

good thing at least he lived a good life with the ML even in their dreams.

[collapse]

Speaking of ML, maybe unpopular opinion, but I liked him from the very start. He's very open about his intentions and didn't hide one bit of it from the MC. Although, I wanted to smack him from time to time,
Spoiler

but I know/feel that he had already fallen for him early but still trying to fulfill his promise/deal to help revive his father. Good thing he changed his mind and instead chose Ethan

[collapse]

I actually pity both the MC and the ML, as well as the side CP, Samuel and Schneider. Goodness I cried for this couple as well. I hope they lived their lives happily as well
Spoiler

although they turned into a worm. lol They surely will have a happy ending being Samuel as the Queen worm and his hubby little Rafael

[collapse]

The ending... was it BE, not really it's open ended with a positive hint.
Spoiler

After leaving together in a dream for 30 years as happily married couple, I believe if they truly wake up, they will become OP. Ethan and Tanisiel's body and mind healed already so for sure when they wake up, they can overcome anything together. Ethan wont lose his mind because Tanisiel is there for him.

[collapse]

Overall, don't get dicouraged because it's ending is open ended, I feel that this is the best ending for everyone. Also Ethan is super OP while Tanisiel is OP as well, so what's there to worry about when they wake up. lol. They can just destroy those villain and find a nice place for them to live, right??? <<less

Sb tell me where is the author I wanna ask him why like whyyyyy??? What did ethan did to you.... he was M a nice child why did he he suffer so much.. wuwuwuwu....

My heart breaks thinking about how everytime he loves sb and they either hurt or betray him....

  1. MC was a nice persona for me. I liked his character like he could not bear to hurt the innocent. Even in the when he lost everything he was waiting for a single thread of hope..I reay like you ethan you made me cry too much.... wuwu.
    1. ML was what to say he was kind of grey character... Although he used our MC but he made it clear in the beginning and he protected him all along... he was also a bit pitiful as he got tricked by chaos due to his father..
    1. I was happy in the end for the side cp of samuel and raffel
    1. The plot, the thrill, the angst, the way the author weaves a beautiful dream that we knowingly fall into and again the feeling of despair we feel when it breaks are just awesome
    1. The ending I am satisfied with it as they were together, world again was starting from scratch..
    1. I recommend reading it if you can handle it.

Who do I have to fight to get my time and tears back?

Who?

The first couple of chapters of this novel had me wondering if I truly wanted to delve into it. Initially, I wasn’t sure if I wanted something so plot heavy and dramatic (painful) as I had just come from a wonderful world of fluff and happiness.

But, I really sincerely enjoyed this read. I don’t have much to write on because it was mostly a painful journey but what I will say is that this bittersweetness we’re left with... more>> gave me enough strength to think up their futures on my own.

I’d love to thank the translator because without them this would have been so hard to really immerse myself into.

plus the ending informational and clarification was really helpful so thank you. <<less

Your experience reading this will be exactly like the title. As Ethan is falling into the abyss (physically, mentally, emotionally, physiologically), the readers will too. I felt just crushing sadness and despair throughout Ethan's ordeals. I think what helped my suffering was that I was prepared this time to read 莲兮莲兮's novel. I first read Age of the Sirens and while that was devastating for me, it pales in the torment that Ethan faces but I was okay because the difference was that I prepared myself for this one.... more>> I made a similar comment for Age of the Sirens that I'll make here and that's that the author is reeeeaally good at making societal commentary (greed for resources and power, climate change, religion, hypocrisy and selfishness). And it really makes you feel that humanity isn't worth saving. <<less

I'm... I'm speechless. I became a crying mess ball warped in blanket while reading this. Really. I even began to think why do I read this story. I've to say, I'm really avoiding angst novels. But, this novel is masterpiece. I can't stop reading, even though I know i've ditched myself into an abyss. This novel will give me bittersweet feeling (?) Heartache (?) for days for sure lmao. At this point I even began to doubt that I was a masochist in disguise deep in my heart....

In my career... more>> reading novels, I never hope for MC to die this much so he can be freed. The author is really too black hearted.

I reaaaally love this novel. I won't reread though. I can't :'D

For me there is almost no plot holes. Everything made sense in the end. The world building, the side characters, different social structures, omegaverse setting, monster-religious theme, everything is so well combined. The author use omegaverse setting advantages too well. Although I kinda think the story really talked too heavily about the god of disorder and the god of order is kinda being neglected lmao.

Prepare your heart and a stock of tissue if you want to read this, I advise. Better if you have a pile of snacks and water too. I assure you, this novel is that good.

Oh also, regarding the ending :

Spoiler

It's open ending (?) but for me it's a happy ending. The author's note also said so (?) They will always be together, at least.

[collapse]

A really heavy spoiler, I warned you :

Spoiler

No, they don't die.
