My Husband is Suffering from a Terminal Illness

Description

Xie Yang struggled in the post-apocalyptic world for many years until he was too tired to go on. Then he transmigrated into a young adult entertainment circle novel where the protagonists have easy, sweet, and satisfying lives.

The male protagonist of the novel is not just handsome and smart, he’s also reborn. The female protagonist of the novel is not only beautiful and works hard towards her dreams, she also has a cheat in her hands.

There’s a lot of male and female supporting roles, each having pretty face, nice figures and someone strong behind them. Get into any one of their bodies, and he could close his eyes and just enjoy life. But he didn’t. Instead he transmigrated into a young idol secretly married to the biggest villain of all — the male protagonist’s maternal uncle.

His title is husband but it’s more like a nurse. Because this novel’s biggest villain is a terminally ill patient who is gloomy and sick in the head (actually sick). Their marriage was to counter the bad luck (illness).

Xie Yang: Who cares if you’re the male lead, female lead, male supporting, female supporting, villain or protagonist. Get in the way of my comfortable life and you’ll die (:

First Impression

I almost skipped this novel because I've seen so many with similar concept and summary, but decided to give this a shot because of the high rating... spoiler alert, I'm VERY glad I did, because this novel sure took me on an emotional rollercoaster.

The Plot

    • This novel has some supernatural (?) elements that would have been so out of place on a modern setting like this, but somehow the author made it work and adds to the charm of the novel.
    • It would've been easy for this to be melodramatic but it isn't! The heartwarming and tearjerker scenes are very sincere, and the amount of humor and face-slapping is just right too.
The MC

    • Another strong and clever protagonist that can stand toe to toe with the ML. More importantly, he can stand up for himself and will refuse to let the ML jerk him around.
    • Is naturally good at a lot of things, which does make plot points predictable, but that doesn't mean he still isn't fun to root for.
    • Not much importance is placed on the MC's backstory, which I'm a little disappointed about, but it didn't really affect the overall quality of the novel so I didn't mind it too much.
The ML

    • Possibly one of my favorite MLs of all time and the biggest surprise of this novel. He is a total TSUNDERE! He is such a wonderful combination of the classic cold and ruthless ML personality with an adorable and soft side to him. The softness is not calculated or only exclusive towards the MC either... he cares DEEPLY for people he considers his family.
    • Petty, and is a sour vinegar jar lmao. Will get scandalized if the MC starts acting shameless...
The CP

    • THE ROMANCE IS SO WELL WRITTEN! Their relationship really developed so organically. It started off from a business transaction and eventually they just became a pair of sweethearts who really embody the vows 'through sickness and health, for better or worse'.
    • The ML can be hot and cold, and the MC deliberately provokes him in return (at one point I'm pretty sure it can be called gaslighting), but within context it's understandable and in my opinion, neither of them did anything really toxic. They both work through issues together wonderfully.
    • Hilarious bickering and back and forth since the beginning (and it doesn't stop even after they got together).
Others

    • There are a lot of villains in the novel but ugh I feel like the
      Spoiler

female lead really takes the cake. But the true villain is probably that creepy system. I do also feel like that plot point is left hanging a bit... like the MC's backstory there was a lot of potential to be explored there that sadly didn't amount to much.

      [collapse]
    • I'm reminded of how vicious social media can be. Like yikes. And I stan a kpop idol irl

I was initially hesitant to review this work due to its length and perceived dullness in January. However, after two months, I find myself replaying charming scenes between the main characters in my mind.

I rate this novella 5/5. Even without re-reading, it has been stored in my subconscious as an enjoyable piece of literature. Credit is due to the author and translators.

The characters in the text have unique personalities; one is confrontational while the other is a reserved, inexperienced businessman with a cold temperament and a kind heart. The explanation... more>> of their actions is delayed, but their relationship quickly becomes sweet and intimate. This warms my soul. <<less

I'd like to answer some of the negative reviews, I get it if you dont like it, but can you pls review after you read the translated story and not MTL'ing?

1. Personality changes and musical ability. MC's classmates and ML are often wondering MC's changes to the point that MC's classmates often cause troubles by mentioning MC's past meek behavior and nonexistent musical ability, so how can you say that MC's changes are ignored?

2. Feng Qinglin (the original books' ML) is under the influence of the system, that's why his... more>> brain is filled with water, but after MC detox him, he becomes mature and behave like a protagonist should be, he even clean up and seize the Feng Family ALONE, by his own means and effort. He even tell ML to not help him because he wants to stand on his own

3. How can you say that the original FL is not a villain when she forcefully obtain love value. Forcefully obtain love value risks brain damage to those the skill is used upon, she knows this but she did it anyway and she already did it twice before MC came to their world

4. It does have a lot of cannon fodders serving theirselves on a silver plater but half of it is because MC associate himself with original FL and ML. Half of the cannon fodders come either from original FL or the big villain Tao Yang who has ideas about ML

5. MC wants a comfortable life so why involves himself in muddy water? Because he CANT get out, ML doesnt want to divorce him, so he cant actually go and start over, he establish a company as a mean of survival so he can have something to fall back into. He fights with original FL because FL keeps revolving aroung ML (who was a key player to ensure his comfortable life). At later chapter after all is peaceful, MC confess that he wants to retreat from entertainment industry and just be a couch-potato who makes music and sings occasionaly

6. The ultimate villain gone missing after being thrown out from home, but he has a backing of one of Feng family who continiously provides big sum of money for him, with the money transferred through multiple acc, that's how he is able to plot behind the scene even when he is homeless

So anyway, the story isnt perfect, and I get it, really. But pls read it first before making a review. It's frustating when I read a review which holding me back from reading a book, only for the review to be false, and I end up miss out on good book <<less

I saw this novel yesterday at Chrysanthemum Garden Index page but no translated chapters yet. I got curious with the description so I decided to mtl it.

Definitely worth all the brain cells that I have sacrificed! I was able to finish it in a day. The mtl was somewhat easy to understand.

I love how the MC (Xie Yang) and the ML (Qiu Xing) interact with each other. The ML was tsundere while the MC was cunning and always gets the upperhand over the ML's tsundereness.

... more>> Background of Characters:

MC - Xie Yang

He transmigrated from an apocalyptic world after dying, into the novel world where a cannon fodder has the same name as him. He was already married off to the ML. At first, he didn't have his abilities from the apocalyptic world. But upon encounter with the origFL of the novel, he was able to stimulate his power core back. Thus he started to use his power to somewhat alleviate the condition of the ML.

ML - Qiu Xing

He is the chairman of Rongding Company and the uncle of the reborn origML in the novel. Qiu Xing was supposed to be the villain in the novel. He is very sick with brain tumor, heart condition and stomach problems. However, his destiny was changed by the MC who wanted to live a peaceful life.

All in all, the MC and ML were very cute together. It wasn't easy for the ML to let go of his hang ups about his body condition, since he was already dying and could only live up to 3 years.

The MC was able to stimulate the will of the ML to live.

There are a lot of face slapping that showed how intelligent the MC is. The ML was very supportive.

This novel is very fluffy and satisfying. The ending was also wrapped up quite nicely. I recommend that you read this novel. <<less

I read this 4 times (I'm sure not last time). The story is one of the best.

STORY:

  • The premise of the story is simple, MC transmigrates from the apocalypse world into a safe and wonderful entertainment world, those are good news, bad news are: he occupies a body of a cannon fodder, he got a husband, clash with FL who has golden finger is inevitable. Sound pretty cliche right? This is where author's usual intervention of twists and turns comes. Story twists are constant, and I mean it - till the end. That's why it's important to stick around.
  • The evnts will involve entertainment world and its occupants, some of those I even feel sorry for, because meeting Xie Yang for them is like meeting a boss in game, you're unprepared, your weapons suck, you're KO'd pretty quickly.
CHARACTERS:

  • XIE YANG. MC is one of a kind personality. He perfectly contains ability to talk wittily talk back at any moment and to anyone. Since he came from apocalypse to him some of the "schemes" in entertainment world are like kids play. He's basically a queen. His character is shaped really nicely as a strong personality, but also kind and compassionate.
  • QIU XING. Lord of tsunderes. Very reserved person in showing his emotions due to environment he grew in and also his current physical condition. This basically shaped his personality of being uncertain and not wanting to get close to people, because he basically lives on the edge of life. It's a kind heart wrapped in barb wire, which only XY can cut through.
  • Secondary characters: there's a LOT. And by that I mean it. The variety of characters is huge and some stick around for a time, some are episodic. Main one you'll come to dislike is FL Mu Zhouyi of original book. I especially appreciate this irony that book describes her as one surviving and striving, but from outsider's perspective things look really dim. But secondary character do a good job helping building this story.
RELATIONSHIP:

  • One of the sweetest and nicest relationships I came across in novels. Maybe the first thing I like is that their development is organic. They start as strangers (so no fall in love at first sight), but Xie Yang is no soft persimmon, he's not afraid of Qiu Xing, they cooperate, find things about each other and this develops with time to partnership. Because of their strong personalities it is a joy to watch them clap back and forth, it is almost like new form of flirting. But XY is the first to care for QX, be it his health or relationships with family/outsiders, he is basically like a cheetah that will jump on you if you care to even think of hurting QX. Xie Yang is an emotional leader in their relationship, he knows QX's condition, but he's not afraid of stepping forward and pulling QX along, before QX can open up and they can walk side by side. It is a HE, but you have to find by yourself how 'terminally ill' was scrapped from the equation of their love.
So grab your food and drink, make yourself cozy and join the ship. THIS NOVEL IS A MUST!

Too much Weibo/netizen crap. Sorry, but after you see very different stories with the same generic netizen lines, it gets tiring. Entire chapters are based around the reactions of netizens. I do not care for netizen face slapping or their opinions. The MC apparently doesn’t care about netizen opinions as long as he “can focus on his music, ” so why is he constantly monitoring it?

These reviews really gave me high expectations. But what I really got was just a novel a bit above average. We have the MC originally from a apocalyptic world but died, I'm not sure how or if it was even mentioned. He wakes up, and he's in the last book he read before dying as the cannon fodder. And now he's gets to do whatever he wants, not quite tho. For everything I'm about to list this book is still ok, it's just those glitches that get to me.

Glitch 1)... more>> No one noticed that he was different. The original was the complete opposite. Studied acting in college, but no one found it strange that he could suddenly compose, play the piano, and the violin. Personality change and the mystery illness. All brushed off.

Glitch 2) Not really understanding some side characters. The supposed protagonist was useless. He didn't handle not one thing by himself. They all treat him like a child. The female protagonist was made into some villain but I didn't really buy into it because she didnt really do anything much. She did have mind control system but it was all so people would like her. And she was being forced to use the system anyway. And the other side characters feel more like informants or stepping stones for MC.

Glitch 3) Why is it that the MC and ML jumped from he's tolerable to I want to be married to him. ML is cute and loving with MC. But I cant help but remember that ML bought (for 500 million) him from his dad. The romance honestly kind of popped up.

The book also got a whole lot boring when the MC got rid of the female protagonist. I would rate this a 3.5. The interaction between MC and ML was funny and cute at times tho. <<less

I was attracted to this novel bc of its name. Too bad the story doesn't live up to it. Well it somehow does because it's damn hilarious.

It's basicaly not only faceslapping 24/7, but repetitive faceslapping 24/7. Faceslapping is a theme, and if I didn't like the theme itself I wouldn't rate it, but the problem lies with how repetitive it is. At least have some variation. Like everybody in the showbiz industry wants to blacken the MC, but lol nope the MC is able to foresee the situation every damn... more>> time and counter it. And I took a look at a few chapters around ch60 and it's still the same: a celeb causes bad rumours about the MC to go around, but the MC got it all in control. Yay. Not.

The golden halo is also so cringe.
The MC literally told the protagonist of that world that he got where he is by himself... Look above your f*cking head can't you see that hula hoop shining?

CP is almost nonexistent so far. The relationship between MC and ML isn't fascinating and deep, but it's definitely something else, I'll give it that. The ML is a tsundere and the MC doesn't try. It would've added something unique to a good storyline, but to a boring storyline it only adds more boring.

Ofc I'm only at ch 35 of the 175 chapters, but does that matter? What's a good story without a good start? One that'll never reach the finish line. Amen. <<less

The beginning was fairly interesting and the dynamic between MC and ML was unique. MC and ML frequently clash as MC resists the plot, doing his best to thwart ML's controlling methods.

However, after a while the story just becomes a one-way road as MC bulldozes over the random cannon fodder who seem to be willingly jumping into his path from left and right. I lost track of the number of cannon fodder between the uncles, aunts, cousins, other entertainers, and random people coming out of the woodwork like someone won... more>> the lottery.

In lieu of this, the plot becomes increasingly haphazard and outrageous.

Spoiler

The ultimate and penultimate antagonists had almost god-like abilities to spy on and manipulate people despite the fact that they were basically destitute and homeless? Were they secretly ninjas? Otherwise, how would they be able to sneak past all the bodyguards and police posted around MC and ML?

[collapse]

This is a happy ending but while it tied up a bunch of loose ends, I can't exactly say that I enjoyed it. I would say that my enjoyment of this novel peaked just before MC and ML got together and trended down from there. <<less

ML is such a tsundere - and MC is having the time of his life teasing ML, and coaxing out honest words out of him!! A smart and poison-tongued MC killing it in the showbiz with a grumpy-terminally ill-tsundere ML (who seems to be picking on MC, but is actually really doting, and MC gets tickled by this behaviour) make for a wonderful combination - their interactions are fun. ML really lets MC do whatever he wishes to and just has his back in times of need. And MC is... more>> fully supportive of his husband during the trying times of getting treatment for ML's 'terminal illness'... Their love gradually grows and is very sweet!!

Supporting characters are passable - antagonists are not one-dimensional - there's a decent showdown with the antagonist... Author also provided an 'explanation' for both the system and the MC's transmigration - trying to tie up the loose ends.

Although I like QT-type stories with systems acting cute/tough/professional etc, but I really hate when systems are used to influence the emotions/feelings of the other person, and this story pretty much highlights it from the victim's pov. How MC is trying his best to prevent his 'people' being influenced by the system, while also keeping everyone in dark.

If there's anything negative, it's that there's too much Weibo-ing going on (Social media is scary!!! Where's my rock!??)... MC uses all his spare time to 'eat melons' on Weibo...

All in all, a good read - Definitely recommended!! <<less

I enjoy their bickering moments ❤

Spoiler

Over all, I enjoy this novel. Even though Im not fan of entertainment/showbiz novel. There's just a few things I dont get in this novel.

1. MC came from the apocalypse timeline before transmigrating to the current world. But he's not suffering from any PTSD or something. I mean if you've lived in the apocalypse you sure would develop some kind of habits, reflex or something. MC's none. I feel that this backgroud is just mainly to make the ability of MC feasible.

2. Weirdly enough, what MC brought from the apocalypse world was not the reflex and alertness or being bloodthirsty. What he brought from the apocalypse world was his talent in music, his ability to scheme and handle business and others around him (im like WTF ?).

Used to seeing the male lead take the lead in many such stories involving a CEO male lead. This is a refreshing one showing the main character take charge for once and be proactive about the romance once he figured out that he was interested in the male lead.

The main character is a very clear headed individual and always knows what he wants. He can also read people really well, and that's one reason why he was able to break the male lead's ice. Pretty fun watching an outwardly cool person (ML) crack his ice shell in front of the main character's teases and open affection.

There's a happy ending, and the MC does have a supernatural power that he brings to the table for returning the ML to health. Don't worry though, it's not overpowered in the least. Ultimately, it's the MC's wits that gets him through the conniving of calculating antagonists through the story.

I always love the novels wrote by this author!

As other reviews say, the tsundere-ML is really adorably cute & funny, even the MC thinks so as he described the ML as 'an old man with a hard mouth but a soft heart'.

Though the romance in this story is slow-burn, their relationship is already close early in the story due to the MC is sold by his father and only has ML as his family member that he can rely on. And the ML, ever since the MC starts to change... more>> his personality, he begins to get interested in MC.

Though at some points, I got quite frustrated with the ML when he always try to step back from their relationship due to he thought that he will not live long. But don't worry, after ML decides & is determined to make MC his own & fight for his disease, he really starts to become more proactive that it is really so sweet!

And I love the MC in this story. He is proud, genius, eloquent, decisive to protect what is important to him, and proactive in opening the lid of his sugar jar (the ML). Even though MC is so famous, there's no love rival drama since MC is always decisive in defining & limiting his boundary with others. And he really100x done a lot for the ML that you can see how much he really love ML. MC really is the lucky star for ML.

Btw, I mtl-ed the rest of the chapter and it is quite understable & didn't prevent me from enjoying the story. <<less

The ratings give me an expectation which turns to be disappoinment..

Average story at most.

The MC is just too OP. Too many plot hole. Side characters only as decorative or cannon fodder.

Why ML's mom want his son to marry MC? Why MC still has abilities from previous life? Why no one question the MC who suddenly become genius talented person? Why? Why? Why?

Besides the good reviews, i've seen a lot of bad reviews about this novel that claim they have given 'legitimate' reasons why this novel is bad. To people who might be thinking of not giving it a try and are hesitant.I hope I can convince you that this novel is utterly great by refuting those bad reviews via facts and some really good unique points of this novel:

    • I instantly fell in love with this the moment I skimmed across a chapter and saw MC and ML fighting and bickering with each other like kindergarten children. Let me put my favourite line here:
ML: "It seems you haven't left your teenage rebellious period."

MC:"Your menopause has arrived ahead of schedule."

I mean yeah i've seen the leads quibbling while flirting but these two oof these two literally are the best. Both quibbling and fighting like children.'if you do this then i'll do this to you too' mindset. It was really enjoying reading that. It was hilarious yet cute!
    • A lot of novels go with romance with the same character who did not actually treat the original owner of the body well.I'm so glad to tell you that the ML was a person who treated even the original owner well in the original novel. MC's body was sold to ML and yet rather than acting disgusted like all those scum MLs. Qiu Xing (our ML) gave the MC the respect he deserved and cared for him even before falling in love with him. Tho he really was a childish tsundere.
    • The romance starting from childish fighting, changed to mutual care and then the romance with both of the leads caring for each other was so sweet. Enough to make me tear up. MC was really active one in the relationship. He was the first to confess and convince the ML about their relationship. ML was really caring! He didn't want to hurt the MC because he might die of his illness so he rejected him at first but once he made his mind to be with the MC, he was really decisive! He properly proposed to the MC. Tried his best with the treatment and even made his will to give everything to the MC in case he died.I was really really crying at that!
    • MC was not really a "Gary Stu". Tho he was a bit OP but he really couldn't do everything on his own. He was witty enough to strike deals with the ML. And without hesitation, he asked for help in stuff that were out of his hand. As mentioned above, he was really proactive when he fell in love. Not only did he give the ML emotional support to live. He tried his best to heal the ML. He was sure of his feelings and even mentioned he fell in love with ML because of his care. He called the ML 'sugar jar'
    • ML was a cute tsundere. He was really childish and the MC always responded with the same childishness. He was really caring for the MC. And as mentioned above, once he decided to get with MC, his decisiveness and will to work hard to live was amazing!
    • These 'transmigration into novel' rarely describe how and why the MC transmigrated and how the novel became a world. But this did give a really reasonable and impressive explanation.i'll mention it in the spoiler below.
About the points at which people gave it bad reviews:

    • Too Much weibo? Bruh if you have read other showbiz novels and see the weibo stuff there then you'll realize that the novel really cut down on the weibo stuff here. It was a bit annoying but way better than 2-3 chapters of weibo build up and then face slapping in other show biz novels!
    • About MC's talent in songs. MC always had a talent for writing songs but not a good voice. After he entered the novel and got a good voice, he started to practice. And yeah he wants to make money because bruh he's from apocalypse ofc he'll be ambitious for money. His super management skills? He just knew how to handle some situations. He did ask the ML for advice, personnel for his company.
    • Why the original FL and ML end up like they did? First if all, I'm really happy that in this novel the original ML actually wasn't s*upid and villain like. Novels like this do tend to make orig charas villains but I'm glad he got to see the truth and went to the right path. Why the FL ended up as a villain? The reason is the same as for the reason why our MC transmigrated into the novel:
Spoiler

The world he had transmigrated in had a consciousness, it predicted that the system that was with Mu Zhouyi (original FL) will lead to its doom by sapping energy so it made a novel with Mu Zhouyi as its FL and sent it to the apocalypse world (which was also a doomed world due to system) so someone could pick it up and get transmigrated to change the future. And when the MC picked up the novel, he got transmigrated into the world so he could save it from the system's clutches (maybe thats why MC retained his ability). It was also stated that Mu Zhouyi had a really villainous mind due to the system's influence and she did recover at the end

[collapse]

    • No one discovered that the original owner of the body changed? Well it was mentioned that the Orig owner was an extreme recluse with even his family not knowing much about him. So when our MC started to act differently, its obvious no one could tell. And the MC did give the original owner justice by finding who mu*dered him and getting him arrested!
Yup, this novel may have its own faults but its by no means a bad novel.i really freakin enjoyed reading this. The ending was perfect! Do give it a try guys. You might just end up liking this!

I thought it would be about the entertainment field but that's not the actual focus. The MC has mad skills with music so you would think that he would focus on that and at first, he sort of did. Then the author decided one chapter to turn the MC into an over-the-top money-grubber who schemes to suck the wealth out over everyone around him. I assume the author thought it would be funny and quirky but it's not (especially once you've read a dozen Korean novels where the MC all... more>> have the exact same trait). Oh well, even if the MC's actions make no sense, given his background and his stated desire for a peaceful and uneventful life, at least he's not an idiot MC. Mostly. on another note, the name for the idol group was a very bad choice
Spoiler

I doubt the author meant to name her boy group after a type of female contraception (IUD) but because of this, my first association with this novel will never be the MC or ML, but rather I will always remember it as the "birth control boy group" story.

this is why a little research is so important when writing.

A great novel! Funny and entertaining. I always look forward on what the MC will do to prevent the FL schemes. The villains are also well portrayed (greedy FL and a psycholotic) and the system origin is explained. MC transmigrated from an apocalyptic world to a novel that focuses on entertainment industry. His goal is to get rich to prevent being Trampled by the female lead of the novel with a golden finger (can brush up good will fr others to win over someone).

Whereas the ML, a conservative, tsundere sickly... more>> rich tyrant (but not too overbearing and annoying) and has a limited number of days. Has a nephew who is a white eyed wolf (ML of the entertainment novel), and is infatuated with the FL.

I love both MC and ML. ML wants to live more to protect the MC since he knows that when he's gone, the MC will be left with those hungry wolves. If not for the comedy part, this novel is heart wrenching..

Downside, I couldn't understand why Mu Qiu (ML's mother) allowed Xie yang for his son, given that he was the only heir (aside from Feng qinlin) <<less

Honestly this is just painful to read, I don't like the MC. Maybe it is too early in the novel but the relationship of the MC and ML is a basically money oriented one in the novel is described as in the ML is warming up to the MC but I dont get why he is getting warm by the MC just asking him for money and showing some godwill every blue moon.

So my rating might say 5 stars but to be quite honest, it's kinda mixed. To be fair, I went into the novel with zero expectations and was surprised in the end by how much I actually liked it. The MC is cunning, competent, cheeky and loves to tease the ML, while the ML is a shy tsundere!! A very cute tsundere!! Frankly, the strength of this novel would be the relationship/romance of MC and ML. They're adorable, and I truly enjoyed how MC not only teased ML to come... more>> out of his shell but also gave him a push to give him the urge to live. The romance in this novel is absolutely stellar, and my five stars is for the romance alone. Also, I like how there is a reasonable answer for the transmigration in the first place rather than just never addressing it in the first place.

Now, the downside is that the plot loses shape the more it goes on. In the beginning it was mostly MC starting up his music career which is fine, then changes to foiling the heroine and her system which is still fine, but after that came a "love rival" of sorts and loses touch with it's original "music industry" plot and becomes some sort of CEO vs CEO/ rich family vs rich family battle that mostly deals with out maneuvering each other. Side characters are basically forgotten as the story goes on, as they only get brought up again when needed. For example, MC's idol group teammates basically disappear by the second half of the novel and are quite literally only mentioned twice in passing. As for the cannon fodders, they're practically waiting to get slapped. Constantly, there is some small cannon fodder who for whatever reason decides to screw over MC before they even meet him and get face slapped. It wasn't too annoying while reading, but it was like MC couldn't take two steps before some random celebrity comes out of the wood-work to start something even before they met MC.

Overall, it's a fantastic story depending on what you're trying to read it for. The characterization and romance is top notch, and while the plot is still interesting do be aware that towards the end, it gets a bit eh. However, I had no regrets reading this story and I highly suggest you give it a shot. <<less

A great novel when it comes to the CP's relationship, it's my first time seeing an MC who directly tells the ML to talk things through instead of assuming random stuff - humans can't read minds.

MC is hardworking, clever, and very mature, ML is tsundere but when he loves someone, he would die for them.

A healthy, well-matched couple, making up for what the other is lacking, seeing MC care so much for the "terminally ill" ML was touching - bonus points for the author's realistic portrayal of cancer.

It falls short... more>> in three different ways.

  • MC is way too OP, perfect at everything, can guess what villains will do long before there are any signs of it; it's just not believable or enjoyable.
  • Face-slapping anti-fans and netizens is okay once or twice, I lost track of how often it was used in only 175 chapters, it became predictable and downright annoying.
  • The "hidden" main-story was concluded in a very unsatisfactory way, it did try to explain some baffling things but ultimately ended with "no one knows and MC doesn't care so we'll drop it".
It's fine if he doesn't, but I as a reader very much do, I would like to know why everything happened, how it happened, I spent my time on this only to be sent off with a 'nevermind'.

If there's a hidden main-plot, one that is meant to explain the existence of the whole story, then I expect to get a convincing conclusion.

From an author's point of view, I understand that she handled it like this, it would have taken a lot of time (chapters) to wrap it up properly, and even then, it likely would have been quite convoluted because it's just not that type of story, therefore not executed well enough to come to a believable conclusion for this particular aspect.

I would have preferred not to get any kind of explanation instead of such a pitiful attempt that is more frustrating than anything else.

Spoiler

There's a system that collects love value by destroying the brain of the targets, and a main system that sends these mini-systems to different worlds/dimensions to collect the "energy", destroying the planets in the process, random people being s**ked into books and transmigrated to these worlds in order to save them (and they conveniently keep their superhuman abilities even when something like this doesn't exist in the world they transmigrate to), all of it probably done by the planets themselves because they are sentient... probably. Maybe.

MC doesn't know, obviously neither does the author.

[collapse]

Sadly, there's a lot of wasted potential, the author incorporated different tropes that don't match well, and you can clearly see that she tried very hard to reach a broad audience by using elements that cater to different age groups, which will always alienate the older ones.

Overall, it's an enjoyable read, mainly because of the CP's mature and heart-warming romance that takes an appropriate time to develop from business agreement to true love, and the MC who's one of the very few who behaves like an actual adult and knows that clear communication is an important aspect of human relationships.

I would still recommend it- if you can keep your expectations low. <<less

MTL'd after 2 chapters; will keep up and re-read with CG's translation. Since this a relatively new novel, I thought I'd boost the ratings with a quick review. Updated since my last review at chapter 40.

While the plot is well-paced and so on, I'm not a big fan of entertainment or face-slapping novels. That said, those plots are keeping my interest. There is a lot of water army (social media) battles, with practically half of the activity being over the internet. The MC looks at his phone almost as often... more>> as I do!

However, what seals the deal for me giving a 5* rating are the characters. There's no insta-love, but the MC and ML slowly begin to rely on each other and open up over time as they navigate their quasi-arranged marriage. They're not as... bloodthirsty as the description would imply. Their interactions are the rare combination of laugh-out-loud funny and teeth-hurting sweet fluff.

The ML, to start with, is an absolute gem. His words are all tsun tsun, but his actions are all dere dere — I can't even begin to describe the perfect ratio of tsundere that encapsulates his character. He's not crazy possessive of MC, but he's very supportive and you can tell he truly cares about and respects MC as a person. It's like he took a course in how to be an overbearing president (meanwhile some MLs can teach the masterclass...) and now MC is giving him supplementary lessons on how to be a proper lover. A good guy with an unfortunate terminal illness and a lot of responsibilities weighing him down.

MC is a bit overpowered, in my opinion (slight spoilers).

Spoiler

On top of his superpowers (from the zombie apocalypse), he can also sing, compose, run a business, act, etc. But it's nothing extreme, especially considering the genre and the enemy he's fighting against. He uses his powers for good! The reason that MC is so obsessed with earning money is so that he and ML can have a real, proper relationship.

[collapse]

MC is clever and driven and has a strong bottom line despite coming from the type of post-apocalyptic future that would break any normal person (so far, there are only hints of his past). He has the good sense to appreciate ML, and it's nice to see him "coming back to life" and opening up through his teasing interactions with ML.

There is a wide supporting cast of characters. They're all pretty simple to keep track of and they never come off as flat.

Spoiler

Such as the members of IUD (MC's idol band, in the first part of the book—the name just kills me. Is it supposed to be some kind of play on how sexy they are?), various giants in the entertainment who hurt or help the MC, MC and ML's families and eunuchs servants employees wallflowers lightposts friends, and the orig!FL (an actress with a golden finger/system who's more or less the biggest encumbrance to MC accomplishing his goal of living a happy life) and orig!MC (ML's nephew). ML's mom is a gem.

[collapse]

Metaphorical spoiler ahead, possible alternate description (in the form of a song MC wrote for the ML, so this is MTL'd with slight edits) :

Spoiler

There once was a rabbit living in the forest who had a strange disease, an twisted temper, and a penchant for being alone. One day, a wounded little bird broke into his den and refused to leave.

The rabbit fiercely scolded the little bird, but clumsily bandaged his wounds. The two somehow muddled along, cohabiting together during the winter. They slowly fell in love. However, when spring came, the rabbit tried to drive away the bird because he was scared of his strange disease.

After some twists and turns, the rabbit managed to untie his knot (settle his fears) and decided to spend the rest of his life with the little bird. Everyday, the bird would hunt for food for the sick rabbit. And then, a miracle happened. The rabbit gradually recovered, and the pair lived happily ever after.

I would give it ten stars if I could. Everything about this novel is perfection. It's healing quality is amazing. If you need something to comfort your heart broken by some other novels, this one is for you. The MC is awesome. The ML is precious beyond words. They don't hurt or harm each other. But at the same time it's not fluff or too sweet. There's plot, there're tense moments, you worry for both of them - but it's always a positive kind of worry. I can't imagine why... more>> someone wouldn't like this novel but I see some people didn't. It's normal, no book is loved by everyone... still strange, though. It's so good I can't name a single shortcoming of it. <<less
