I don't know where people stop by and write a review that they rate 5* from the beginning, I read over 150 chapters. It's indeed good at the start but it's getting worse and worse until I can't even digest a little bit of any content in any chapter later.

MC talks a big life, lead human, want to be hero, then he don't want to be a hero since he was cold and emotionless then he thought become a devil-hero-like which was BS then he thought himself to be come... more>> the ABSOLUTE (which is even more BS).

He said that he killed too many humans in the past, yeah, he kept on killing great talent people in this life either... He said he want to live a life to fight for humanity bla bla bla but actually it sounds like I will kill all of them and become a savior of a world with no survivor... <<less

I like it. It's similar to reincarnator, but I think the built of reincarnator is better, but this has less confusion. For example: there is a god and fairy of authorities in reincarnator, but in this one there is some soloman-sh*t hero or something like that that had sealed 72 demons and when these are released he forced a game-system to support humans. Instead of funny fairies there are programmed announcement, which is a plus for rein. Minus for this one.

The first thing he does is being a necromancer and... more>> he is op and can have 3 more classes unlike other people who has only 1. This concept roped me to the series after the soloman-shit. So it's good. MC is ruthless, op, decisive and etc. He may try to save the world from these demons as well. <<less

Adequate plot, but execution was horribly done. All characters are devoid of any personality, and all social interactions feel fake. Even the plot line goes worse as the story progresses; I believe most people will agree on the tutorial ark being the most enjoyable throughout this entire novel. I honestly can't get myself to continue reading further, and would only recommend it to those comfortable with reading machine translated novels.

This story was very highly rated so I was interested. Firstly, I'll say the translation is decent but not great.

The story starts out fairly well. The main character dies and then his mind essentially gets sent back in time. This gives him an opportunity to use his future knowledge to change his (and humanity's) bad ending.

The problem with this story is that it moves very fast -- from challenge to challenge with no time in between. It's just the main character, Muyoung, traveling around and gaining strength by tackling challenges... more>> and gathering items or skills. There's very little interaction between the main character and anyone else. Even when there is, it's very superficial and only for a short while. So it's kind of like playing an RPG where there's no character development or story. Just constant grinding. Grinding is great, for a while, but eventually you have to get back to a story.

I think if characters stuck around more and if there was more development between the various characters and Muyoung, the story would be much more interesting. It's just not that interesting where all your character does is goes to Location A (that you've never heard of) and does Trail B to get magic tchotchke C, which adds 50 to his stats. Rinse and repeat. <<less

Edit: Wow, now it's really dumb. He wants to motivate humans to unite, but to do that he acts like their enemy and kills lots of strong ones who don't surrender, but spares weak ones who surrender... Counterproductive much?

First it was a bit flat, but with ok writing. Not too many characters and not too convoluted unlike in reincarnator.

Lately there's character development in lots of places, even side characters.

Background is also becoming really interesting.

Overall really good right now.

Not a fan of this one. The MC is not just a sociopath, he's also very s*upid. Author seems to think people can fight and train endlessly for days on end without food and water. I guess he never heard the expression "An army marches on it's stomach." You got 50 strangers in a room who get attacked daily by monsters. Only the top 3 fighters get food and water. The other 47 go hungry. Our hero MC is of course the top fighter and gets all the best food... more>> and water. The rest can f*ck off. Oh, but he sneers at them when they don't train for hours on end like he does. Yeah, I'd like to see how much training you can do after days without food and water a**hole. Oh and keep in mind a big boss battle is coming up and he can't possibly win it alone. So just maybe he should share a bit of his knowledge and food with the rest of the group? For his own self-preservation if nothing else? Nah, let him hoard all the food for himself while the rest start fighting each other over food. And instead of resenting him for not sharing, they start worshiping him like a god. They donate what little food they have to him and even start to kill anyone who slanders him. "Oh great as*hole god! We have killed all who offended thee! We offer thee what little food we have! We can survive for over a month without food and water from your presence alone!" I don't mind if the main character in the story is a sociopath. But don't have the other characters worship him for it!

Besides the above, the novel itself feels like reading an event log from an action role playing game. All that ever happens is the character gets some new piece of equipment, skill, or summoned creature and goes off into battle. This is basically the entire story:
MC gets new stats/skills from training
MC gets new stats/skills from equipment
MC gets new summoned creature
MC battles using the above

Rinse and repeat ad nauseam for an endless cycle of equipment hunting and monster bashing. <<less

Kotb is one of my favorites KR, at the start it seems like a second Reincarnator that is going to be repetitive and will lose it's charm after 15 or so chapters but well.. well no! It actually becomes even better as the plot progresses, Muyoung is one of those Nie Li type MCs and MCs like them are a joy to read if they remain omnipotent with bags of smarts and knowledge.

The pacing of the story is done very well, the fun in reading Kotb is just top tier,... more>> it's one of the few novels that makes you grit your teeth waiting for a new chapter to come out.

As for the story, Muyoung has a similar story to Reincarnator's Kang Hansoo, although they would take entirely different paths as RPG- based classes exists in Kotb and is an intergral part of it. The characters are not really put into depth but that is explainable, since he will mostly do his job alone... kinda.

A spoiler for his current class

Good ol' necromancer

A good alternative to those who have finished reading Kotb is Dungeon Hunter and Reincarnator.

However, the TL seems to have stalled down a whole lot from a normal paced b4, I suggest you to wait and avoid reading it now. 8.7. <<less

This novel is not that great. But it is at least somewhat entertaining if you focus on the MC and ONLY the MC. All other characters get relegated to the background or have their role taken by the MC. It was as if John Snow had killed every antagonist of Game of Thrones himself while his family was going around doing things you thought were important, only for John to come to clean it up after dying and reviving 5 times. It really is the same amount of emotional and... more>> dramatic impact. There is NONE.

The setting is honestly great and it feels like the story will be pretty good. A lot of characters have a personality that hooks you right away. But then you slowly learn that this author has no emotional connections to any of the characters. Each character is promptly forgotten 5 chapters after inception and left to the background of the story as the main character takes every character's role and purpose. Bae Suzy? Supposed to be an emotional tie for MC, but MC forgets about her on purpose thinking that helps her while saying he desperately NEEDS HEROES. Hyacinth? An emotional connection that does NOTHING after
Spoiler

she dies

[collapse]
. Snow? Doesn't speak complete sentences up until the one thing she says to MC at the end. Bae Sungmin? Emotionless to only his daughter, has plenty of emotions otherwise. Don't even get me started on the fact that they never reunite him and his daughter for the entire novel but bait us the WHOLE f*ckING WAY. Woohee? Used as a plot device that is only brought it when necessary or for subpar humor. Kim Taehwan serves NO purpose, I don't even know why he is mentioned. He could not exist and the novel would be exactly the same.

Many characters are outright forgotten. Lucifer's 2nd subordinate? Can't even remember his name, but he disappears. The Hell Horse loses to MC in a duel, so the MC controls him now. But after the duel, he is not mentioned again until the end where he doesn't listen to the MC again? Huh? The territory he sets up is negligible. Most of the characters there die or are not mentioned, unless in passing. And he barely even lives there or visits. The power of the stars never gets explained at all. Many of the conditional powerups he gets (necklace of skulls, achievement to get King Slayer, etc.) are forgotten about. Many of the powers introduced to him never get used, why do they even exist? They never explain how the Queen of the Fairies (Woohee's mother) knew literally everything about Diablo/Solomon. Apparently, the King of Fairies is her dad, but they straight up kill that motherf*cker and she doesn't even mention it.

Now for some technical stuff. The translation is pretty solid for the most part. It starts to fall apart around chapter 220 because the TL and Editor changed a few times. A lot of the nouns in the novel get switched around (ie., Diabolos to Diablo, and Fire Tars to Bultars). Then improves later with the new TL.

The author's writing leaves some things to be desired. He doesn't explain what the characters really look like and doesn't flesh out anything in the novels besides the fighting. There was even a part of the novel where it flashes back through the MC's history where we first get to learn about him. But it was SO CONFUSING that the TL had to provide the best description he could, based on comments from other people, so others could actually understand what was happening.

To be honest, I'm surprised I finished this novel. No emotional impact (I don't even care about the MC, dude is too edgy), no fleshed-out setting (What shape is the world even in? What does the map look like? What is North, South, East, West?), no useful background characters, no humor, and no real ending. The only thing this novel really does well is: powering up the MC and the fights scenes. I'd say even Wuxia novels do a better job at everything this novel does well (I do like them, but you do have to question the quality of some of them).

Would I suggest you read it? No, not really. Unless you ONLY, and I mean ONLY, care about a strong MC getting stronger and fighting things. And even that I'd suggest you read Wuxia. <<less

How unfortunate I couldnt finish it. Anti hero protagonist is way too much for me to handle. I wouldnt mind a cold hearted but reasonable MC, but he is not. A runaway woman who was kidnapped and abuse has escape from a village because she couldnt endure anymore suffering. She met the MC along the way, she tried to ask help but the MC denied, so instead she said they would protect on their own while she help the MC from his current situation also (the MC was chased... more>> by fossae a monster) since both of them were being chase. Sadly, the just fcking USED the pitiful woman to lure an enemy. The poor woman died, it was just a lil bit more she could have escape at even have hope to escape from the pursuer. Imagine you were kidnap, and abused sexually, and almost had scars all over her body but the MC used her as a bait without a fcking emotion. Hais.. I cant swallow such development so am dropping. <<less

This is the story of a traitor to humanity, who after helping the demons detroy his race, somehow travels back in time to the relative beginning of the apocalypse and decides that this time he's going to use his knowledge to gain power and save humanity instead.

Classic, so far so good. But for me, the problem doesn't lie with the writing/translation, as it so often does, it's with the MC...

Spoiler

After telling us that he's somehow going to redeem himself, this idiot plays the lone wolf card and doesn't help others, even when he can, even when it doesn't cost him anything.

Giving some useful informations would be the minimum in my book but whatever, let's pretend that this emotioniless husk of a man is traumatized by his past and that it'll take some time for him to become human again...

20 chapters later, he rationalizes needlessly killing innocents "because they were going to die anyways".

Not only is this morally bankrupt, but we already have seen two characters that "should have died but may become powerful" (the little girl, and the guys who gets daggers in the trial).

So, to hell with his judgements and to hell with him.

[collapse]

Since I now root for the MC's death, I'll just drop this turd. <<less

Typical sociopath BS that I have come to expect from Korean Survival genre. I should have checked to see where this came from. This author even has the gall to claim that his mentally deranged view of human behavior is to be expected when people are put under pressure and calls actual human behavior hypocritical. History proves this false. Learn some history before attempting to push your edgelord ideologies on the rest of us.

PREFACE: It's been a long while since I've read it, but I just felt like leaving a review.

I'm not gonna do my usual super longer in-depth review because I do remember a lot, but not enough to do something like that.

TLDR: Turn off your brain, read words as weird lines and curves, and you'll enjoy it. Decent time killer

For lack of a better of way to explain, the MC has to be one of the most annoyingly bland and undeveloped characters I've ever read in a novel. Have you ever... more>> tried eating only whole wheat bread crusts before? Because that's the level of bland that Muyoung is.

Of course because he is Mr. MC with MC memory that can remember all the tiniest details and ideas, he obviously grabs all the OP sh*t throughout the story, making him, OP. Anything that could be considered a blessing in terms of equipment or skills, you can bet your ass he's gonna get it one way or another.

Besides that, as far as development goes, the author really tries their hardest to say that he changed, always saying stuff like "Muyoung wouldn't have done that back then" or some bullsh*t like that. The thing is, that doesn't count as development, you know why? Because the sad f*ck that we're stuck with in the whole story ACTS THE EXACT SAME. From chapter 1 to chapter 200-whatever I dropped it on, his actions and mindset is practically the same the whole time. Saying that he's not like how he used to be "pre-reincarnation" just means that he's different from before the story started. It adds some depth to him, but otherwise his attitude, with which the events that happen throughout the story, you'd think he'd become a whole lot better of a person or something like that. But no f*ck you.

Don't get me started on the damn side characters, god dammit, people are just thrown at you and most (not all) but most, you won't give a damn about. They're hardly developed and usually just serve the bigger goal of "LOOK AT HOW BIG MUYOUNG'S FAT D*CK IS! SO POWERFUL! SO STRONG! SO-" Go f*ck yourself.

For anyone reading this that has gotten to at least the middle of the story, cut the f*cking grains guys, cut the damn grains. That whole thing gives me an aneurysm. <<less

I tend to like novels like these, but with this one, I'm really confused why this is rated so highly. This novel is plagued by logical inconsistencies and just overall weird mechanics. I for example just read a part about the MC stepping on someone, and if he put a bit more force, the air would shoot up into his brain and kill him -- at least, according to the author. I mean... what? That's not how the human body works.
Step on him and crush his ribs, crush hind... more>> windpipe and god know what else. That's all fine. But weird descriptions like these? What's up with that? It's like I'm reading a novel written by a little kid.
And like that, this novel is filled with many more weird descriptions and inconsistencies that completely take me out of the story and just make me start to question reality itself.

Besides that, the translation quality is also sub-par. It isn't horrible and the story is very much readable, but the editor clearly didn't do his job very well. There are quite a few grammatical errors and weird turn of phrases that could have easily been polished away. These things make part of the novel feel a bit alien and very unrelatable.
The overall readability just isn't very pleasant imo. If you're sensitive to this, you should really just skip this and not even give it a try.

The last thing which I disliked, is that characters besides the MC have no depth and dialogues are very much dumbed down. It's just not there. It's all about the MC. Other characters might as well be NPCs.

Overall, this is by no means the worst novel -- there is plenty novels which are way worse. But this novel just doesn't work for me. Maybe if you're not very detail orientated that you can enjoy novels like these, but for me this is a real no-go. <<less

Setting of story is quite similar to Reincarnator - gain power to save mankind. While both of protagonists have very detailed knowledge about future, here every little action of MC lead to hidden conditions which in turn grant him absurdly strong equipment, skills or permanent stats buffs. At start it nice thing, yet later just sheer amount of OP rewards make strength of protagonist very confusing for readers. Since so, you just wait for him to steamroll all his enemies, challenges, difficulties, etc.

Have you read reincarnator yet? This series is like reincarnator with faster pace >.<

MC got summoned into another world, spend 40 years to fight and before he closed his eyes for the final time, he somehow got transported back in time when he's first summoned. With his knowledge, he started to strengthen himself, others? Who cares about them.. It's not like MC is humanity's babysitter. If people are unwilling to be ordinary, sure, MC will help them, but at the end it's their life, not MC's.

A great series with necromancer... more>> skill prioritizing on his art skill.

So I dropped this novel like hot potatoes in chapter 21 for a good reason. Below is the comment I wrote in 2016 when I was reading the novel as it came out:

|I actually don’t like this chapter very much. Yes, I know this is supposed to show that Muyoung can be cruel when necessary to achieve his goals but which goals does he have. That’s my biggest issue with the MC. I’m not entirely certain if he really wants to help humanity or only make himself stronger. I wouldn’t... more>> have minded so much the death of the couple if it wasn’t for his reasoning for it. ‘Affection could only be given by the strong’ my ass. That sounds like a variation of you’re weak so you should suffer. Just keep ur head down and do what the strong want. You don’t deserve to love or be acknowledged as human. That throws me off so much. I mean how can someone claim to want to save himamity when they have no regard for humans. Frankly, I feel that it’s unrealistic for Muyoung to want to prevent humanity for dying out when he clearly is indifferent to humans.
Also, I don’t know if it’s because of his training but doesn't he know that the people that are truly strong are the minority of humans? A minority he is reducing right now. How can he prevent humanity from dying out if he kills both the weak and the strong. Does he think only him is enough to save humanity? Ha. Apart from that, Muyoung’s decision to kill everyone in the tower was based on the assumption that everyone in there was a criminal. When he met someone that was different from his assumption, he should have revised his decision. The man and woman are the type of people humanity needs the most. People that would go back to help their rescuer because they think he could die for helping them.
I just feel that it would be better if Muyoung dropped his saving humanity goal because I feel that that’s just something he’s using to ease his conscience if he has one. Character development would be nice with this MC but knowing web novels, he’ll be like this at the end and get a girl who loves him and save humanity. It just pisses me off.|

So that was old me and I still agree. Everytime I change my mind and try to reread, I can't get past chapter 21.

This idea of you die because you are weak bullsh*t is getting irritating. Particularly when the MC is not letting them get stronger. This MC is clearly edgy for edge's sake. Do not read this novel expecting character development or realistic characters. <<less

Letting the weak die as they will die anyway, he can't help everyone, though more can survive if he just say something but OK! Killing an innocent couple himself as they will die anyway, not necessarily if he helped a bit but OK! And lets not talk about how the f.. The heck he got ridiculously overpowered class and skills.

Also he has no interest in making friends or companion, so I can't anticipate any good development of his character aside to the worst. And a story without interesting supporting characters is awfully bland.

Ok guys, sorry to tell you this but this novel is wack. I almost never leave a bad review cuz I tend to drop bad novels fairy early, but with this one I kept going on. The problem with this novel relies on several things:

Spoiler

1. The author tends to forget things he says or some things stated early in the novel are altered later on. Man he clearly made a deal with the Evil Spirit Devourer to help him for only 60 days. They spent two months building his territory afterwards (thats already 60 days), and the dude is still helping him. 15 days harrasing the dwarfs, the dude is still helping him. Wack.

2. Luck is a huge factor in this novel. The MC supposedly has tons of experience and knowledge, yet he heavily relies on the items and people he gets not by relying on his memory, but the ones he got by coincidence or luck. For example that sword that recovers his stamina? If he didnt have that he wouldnt be able to complete x trial that comes out next. He wants to capture a phoenix? He coincidentally gets help from a more powerful monster to hunt him. His previous goals? Mc: Whats that and how do I eat?

3. Some real s*upid things that happen or are said in the novel. Like when he is at the temple in the beginning of the novel and it seems that for some reason the boss is stronger than it should be. Why tho? Never explained or mentioned ever again, author just didn't want the MC to one-shot the monster boss with his reincarnation opness so he raised his level. Woah the phoenix is not a high grade or a top grade monster, but a mirage grade!? Uhh whats that supposed to mean man, the hell horse killed the phoenix easily. All fairies are managing trials and trying to get a home, meanwhile hedley's kow (a fairy) is trying to become the goblin's king and its shown to be able to transform into anything (the phoenix for example) Why? We will probably never know.

4. Fights are badly described or totally skipped. You get lines like " they are gonna fight, boom boom ok they are kinda even, MC does this power up next, "30 mins later", MC slices off his head. Horde of monsters invade, "30 mins later", MC and cronies wiped them and they got x amount of losses but no big deal.

5. Plot outta nowhere. For example he is planning to get a phoenix heart to get the dwarf king make an armor with it. There is a problem tho, a dragon will raid their hideout and the dwarf king is later captured by hoomans. Ok so this important event should be present in our reincarnated mc's mind. But guess what? Its never mentioned, not until he actually has the materials for the armor and its about to search for the dwarves, wild dragon searching for the little ones appears, and its until then than he "remembers" such a thing will happen that it actually happens. This also gives him the perfect opportunity for the dwarves to own him a favor by saving them, and if this didnt happen they wouldnt actually made him the armor.

[collapse]

Summarizing it, there are just too much coincidences that benefit our MC. In other words, its merely plot armor and not the reincarnated MC memories which drive the plot and that sucks, not what I was expecting from a "second chance" novel. It's like MC who has future knowledge devices a plan to follow, but guess what, he got this wack powerup he wasnt expecting so time to change plan, but wait!!! Shortly after he gets another power up he wasnt expecting soooo change of plans again..... But wait!!!! rinse and repeat. Im sure some of you will still like it so give it a try. <<less

Great reincarnation/apocalyptic novel.

Similar to reincarnator however there are a number of distinct variables which sepereate the two novels and the most important part is the plot buildup

Spoiler
[collapse]
reincarnators plot build and king of the battlefield have a similar end game plot; survival of humanity in post-apocalyptic alternate dimension/world/survival game. However the structure which leading up to the end is clearly differant, intro for both is really similar (reincarnator) humanity is pretty much extinct and on their last line of defense while the leaders of humanity sends back the super OP legendary/badass MC with a magical treasure back to the beginning with future knowledge with a mission to save humanity, wakes up in the beginning room and well read the story if u wanna know the rest of the beginning. (Great novel btw) mid plot basically is kinda like floor climbing, get into zone, find exit goto next floor, cant climb back down. However MC tries his best not to neglect dangers which causes mass destruction on the human population who will climb that floor in the future saving millions to billions of lives, the end well I guess u can call it end prep for the war of races which humanity will obviously survive. (King of the battlefield) plot intro is differant, op MC dies from betraying the organization which brainwashed him to betray humanity and he gets sent back to the start where he starts again with future knowledge, mid point is clearly differant from reincarnator except for getting op items and classes because hes supposed to be op

Anyway the 2 stories are similar in a way yes, but I enjoy the similartiy between both novels because if u can come up with a totally differant reincarnation/apocalyptic novel which is a better read than these with a completely differant plot where the MC build is op and enjoyable, anti-hero and not some harem seeking rich play boy whoch we get sick of who lets girls toy with him and makes him buy them really expensive things after he either gets rich or powerful give me a call <<less

Grow strong, overcome the obstacles.

Whether a strong humans such as Heroes, Champions and creatures from the dark, legends - Demons or Dragons, he will all overwhelm them and shows all who's gonna survive in the bitter end.
In the utmost way he become a king in no time. Like in the title "The King of the Battlefield"

Taste and smell like "Reincarnator" but I think this one is better. Action packed of unfortunate destiny, harsh, brutal, ploy, death and... more>> survival. <<less
