starts okay with good humor, but it drags A LOT until around ch70 and then the melodrama plotlines aren’t even very good... I’m not sure why it seems to be so popular, I’m really not a fan. I ended up skimming a lot towards the end just so I could see what would happen. “Where is Our Agreement to be Each Other’s Arch-Rivals?” is a book with a similar premise that pulls it off a lot better.

So when I decided to pick up reading this novel I didn't read any review nor tags just a little glimpse of description and open it quickly. That was simply because I was in quick search of reading sth and this was so long time on my reading list but I always picked sth more famous and well known for reading. And when I started reading I instantly fall in love with it (I literally fall in love with everything I read that's normal)

The way president Xiao tried to... more>> take care of thing at first made me laugh my gut out. It was so funny I wasn't expecting a comedy at all I say I didn't check the tags. So well I thought this might as well be all comedy happy ending but then somewhere after things started to get messy I was shockedddddd 0.0 (I haven't received this much of roller-coaster of emotion even at my monthly cycle) the author went clearly ohooo~~~you had your fun let's meet reality now x/ and the harsh reality hit my face and ML at the same time.

Spoiler

when xiao YuAn was forced to send military thinking that he can save his country the way he shoulder all those burden till the end. When he kneel on the snow to admit defeat, the way that even ppl didn't recognise how hard he worked to save the ppl... That wasn't mentioned once that people would thanks him or gossip behind his back about how he surrounded himself to save the people. It was all too heart wrecking that I cried my gut out. Why no one tried to understand him not even the ML only he himself shoulder everything to the end till he committed su*cide AGAIN]

[collapse]

Honestly I suffered so much from the miscommunication in this novel if they have just been more honest with there words if he said everything with that smile on his face. Haaa~~ anyway I was satisfied with the outcome but definitely this novel made me revive the hugest change of emotions first I was laughing and the next chapter I was bulging my eyes out from crying 😭😭😭 please shows us mercy author. I love how you used all those beautiful Chinese idiom aand poetry which made my knowledge wast thanks to help of translation but it still hurt me so muchhhhh

Oh I forgot to mention I love tragic stories which lead to happy ending and I love miserable type of ML who try to stand no matter how much they are hurting. I sometimes wonder... Why he never cried in front of MC he was so miserable but never cried always smiled an acted so lovingly 😭😭😭😭bro you are human cry moreee cryyyyyy <<less

Okay, first of all, the first couple of chapters are quite deceitful as this novel is abusive as f**k to the heart. If you came here looking for a fluffy romance story, then I suggest you drop this one and go look for another novel.

This is HE but if I had to describe it, it's like an extreme upscale version of Romeo and Juliet. Wherein Romeo and Juliet, it's two very influential families feuding; here, it's two countries waging war against each other. Blood, death, destruction, abuse are the things... more>> you'll encounter here. So if you think you won't be able to handle reading about the characters' sufferings and death, then nope, move away from this.

Moving on to other aspects, the plot is actually quite fast paced. It picks up around past 70 chapters. Each chapter is really short, maybe around more or less 1000 characters so it's a fast read too.

The MC and the ML, I really wish for them to not be in this novel being abused mentally, emotionally, and physically by the author. Especially the MC, such a fragile-hearted cinnabun that needs to be protected. There were misunderstandings between them at first due to their lack of proper communication but they ended up together through countless trials and sacrifices.

Honestly, this is a story I'd read once and recommend but not read a second time, not because it's not good but just because it hurts. That is all, this work is quite MTL friendly so give it a go if you're impatient to read this story like me. <<less

I finished reading this novel a few months ago, but I still oftentimes think about it. For the longest time, I couldn't decide how I should write this review because I wanted to do it enough justice. Now I'm just going to do it anyway, and hope I can add to the reviews here to help encourage anyone who is on the fence about reading this.

I loved the journey that I took together with the MC and ML until they reached their final stage of happiness, with all of my... more>> heart. But alongside that, what I also enjoyed a lot was the character development of the MC.

Xiao Yu'an may at first seem like an easygoing fellow from his very entertaining internal ramblings that come along with an abundant usage of exclamation marks, and his fondness for referring to modern-day songs and things (I screamed every time I recognized one). But we don't know how depressing his background actually is. It gets glossed over quickly, presented briefly after his adult life's attempts to be the perfect Overbearing CEO, then the plot picks up quickly after his transmigration. Only as the story progresses, do we start to slowly see more and more of his attitude towards life. (T/W: There's su*cide, and not just the MC.)

This novel really made me put a lot of things into perspective as I was reading. Like what happens when the transmigrator doesn't have the ability to take on the role of the person they've become. When things fall out of your control and you can't live up to being the person you're supposed to be, what do you do. Can you live that person's life without the consequences that comes with just being that person. If you can't, is it moral for you to throw away the responsibility.

Spoiler

Without being too spoilery, Xiao Yu'an comes to realize relatively early on that living in the body of an emperor holds a lot more responsibility than just making sure the protagonist is alive and happy so he won't come back for bloody revenge later on. And this propels the rest of his decisions, the butterfly effect that leads to the rest of the happenings in this novel. Hilariously enough (yet bittersweet), he sticks to the only thing that he's sure of - the original plot - all the way until Yan Heqing confesses to him.

And that's only the middle of the knives buried within this novel.

[collapse]

However! Despite how much this novel might make you cry (I sure did), there are a lot of bittersweet/sweet moments sprinkled throughout. Honestly, I think the pacing of this novel is done wonderfully. There wasn't a single moment where I felt the plot was getting draggy; everything that happened in the novel felt accounted for, even if it separated our beloved CP. Perhaps it's also because I'm already quite familiar with plots that revolve around political machinations and warring kingdoms.

By the end, my heart was already bleeding out for Xiao Yu'an and Yan Heqing. I only felt as if I could breathe again when they could finally be together happily. That is, until the extras made me cry again because Yi Yi Yi Yi - or affectionately, 11 - gave us a look into the alternate planes of existence (thanks for the extra knives, 11! Q_Q) before returning back to our loving CP for the final touch.

Also, there were many times when the imagery took my breath away. I have so many favorite moments and favorite lines (many are Yan Heqing's actually, so please believe that I care about him a lot too despite his lack of presence in this review haha!). This novel made me feel as if I was slowly unwrapping a gift.

Please do give this novel a try! You will cry and laugh together with it.

This novel has mixed reviews confusing a lot of us whether its worth a read or not.

Sooo, I'm here to convince you guys that yup its totally WORTH IT! This is gonna be long but I hope you'll bear with me!
    • Most of the bad reviews are from the people who dropped it even before reaching the midway point.I don't know how many times i've said this but i'll say it again you can't really judge anything before reaching its end or atleast its mid point. You don't know what point might even act as its saving grace. Ofcourse I respect preferences but in that case you can just say you didn't like it or its not for me rather than blaming the story because you haven't even read all that it has to offer!Anyway, blinded by these bad reviews, I was totally ready to be bored while reading this story and was ready to write a bad review. The MC like others said pissed me off.I was annoyed with the way he acted all carefree, dense and pushed the ML to have harem according to original story. The story was funny but nothing special. But I continued reading and I'm soooo glad that I did. The plot went from 0 to 100 real quick. So anyone reading it, atleast reach chapter 64 onwards before deciding on anything!Because thats the point where this novel started making me super interested in it. (Most people with bad reviews dropped it before that chapter too)
    • As I said above, the MC really annoyed me in the start and he is the most common problems in others reviews too. But I just wanna say, as I read more and more I fell so badly for him that I actually wanna hug and give him lots of headpats.I feel heartache for him soo much.I LOVE THIS BABY BOI!I actually think he's a bit similar to WWX from MDZS for me. (A spoiler if you haven't read MDZS) The way the MC tried to protect everything and everyone, worked hard for the kingdom while his mental state collapsed everyday and how he slowly broke down but in the end still always smiled even tho he was sad really reminded me of WWX (and I love WWX beyond words). He was even ready to exchange his own life for the kingdom's people.I really felt like crying for him! Like when the novel was still light hearted I always wondered why he was so carefree and why did he decide to save the ML but after knowing he was just like that, a legit nice person who wasn't some annoying virg*n mary but just wanted to help people he could. Bruh, did I feel kinda ashamed realising how malicious my thoughts are. Like come on, how many of us when dropped in a novel doomed to die will try to save the very person destined to kill us and try to act as a emperor to save the kingdom. Well I would be running away the first thing in the morning tho. But I can't put emphasis on this enough, that even tho MC was an outsider, after realising how real everything was and how he had to be responsible for everything now that he's in the emperor's body, he took everything on his shoulders, tried to fight against the heavens no matter how much it hurt him. He lived in guilt about not being the real emperor, for the soldiers' lives, feeling it was his fault about everything, constantly apologising to them yet no matter what he still continued to move on bearing everything no matter how much tortured and alone he felt. He never ever wailed about his own misery.I can't literally explain my love for him. The author freakin tortured him in every way she could, physically and mentally and I have a bone to pick with the author for that! I loved that he was a friendly person who loved to mess and chat with everyone including the ML using modern terms and his singing xDDD. He never ever even abused his power by cruelly punishing people but rather he tried his best to help them. The people who have a problem with his blushing, seriously? He was just a normal dude so why can't he blush while facing the first love of his life? Is blushing banned or smth? And his insistence on following the plot even after everything fell apart? Guys couldn't you read how much he dreaded how things went wrong after he tried to change the plot? He was scared about it. Who wouldn't be? F you the heavens of the book that wanted everything to follow its original course and caused my baby Xiao YuAn a lot of trouble.I'm so glad he finally got his happiness with the ML in the end. He deserves the whole world!Idk if you guys will like him the same way I did, but the MC made this novel a '100% worth it' for me.
    • ML like the MC was also tortured by the author though mostly mentally I think. (Yeah I'm super biased towards the MC because for me his suffering was literally too much when he was just an outsider. Plus atleast ML had the protagonist halo) But he still had enough on his plate. He was forced by his circumstances, his devastating past still remained, he had a lot of guilt towards Xiao YuAn and his smile. He suffered a damn lot too.
      Spoiler

He dreamed everyday of his dead family and the MC's smile and when the MC died he dreamt of his death. He didn't have it easy.

      [collapse]
Kudos to his love tho for not forcing the MC on anything and letting him go whenever he wanted. Remaining loyal for a long ass time and willing to bear anything for the MC.I loved how much he loved the MC that it scared him to even see a look of rejection from him and he was willing to even cry for the MC. My heart is always soft for him.
    • The plot and its execution is *chef's kiss* like just WOW! The author depicted the war and the post war things so freakin realistically that I was in total awe. The ML's circumstances which left him no choice. The soldiers of the North kingdom who were loyal. The tragedies that happened due to just small stuff. The post war effects. The deaths. Everything was potrayed just perfectly! And in between these were our protagonists' sufferings, lovestory and their struggle to remain together. Lets not forget about the top notch comedy, the comedy that came in between the war and angst was really like a breath of fresh air that felt like a break from painful stuff and it was hilarious. MC messing with people with his non stop chatting using modern terms and singing weird songs will always be hilarious to me!I loved everyone from the Taoyuan Village! All of them were so hilarious and wholesome! MC's dynamic with Chen Ge was really good xD.I pity every guard and maid who had to accompany the MC and listen to his BS and whats more he would even mess with the ML so much making me laugh out loud. The angst was bearable due to this. That aside, about the misunderstandings, I really have to mention that I think the misunderstandings were plausible and felt real/reasonable because the circumstances really forced them to think like that and unable to communicate.I have read a lot of s*upid misunderstandings that made me want to bash my head against the wall. But for these, I felt there was no helping it. Another thing that was really awesome was how the current happenings gave reasons for the things there were written in the original novel. That was pretty good.
    • The love of the main couple was so heartwarming like it felt so real and unbreakable. Both of them were irreplaceable for each other! If Xiao YuAn was the person who melted the snow for Yan HeQing, then Yan HeQing was the person who took away Xiao YuAn's lonliness and gave him a destination.i really felt like crying because both of them were willing to bear any stigma and all kinds of slander just to be with each other and it was Beautiful!
    • The author's writing was freakin beautiful. It made me feel so emotionally invested in the story with just the right use of words. The dialogues of the two main leads were just breathtaking! The words used to describe the situation! The use of different poems! It was a piece of art.I love novels which have right and beautiful use of words and this is definitely one of them!
    • I thought I should make a seperate point regarding angst for people hesitant about it. Even tho the angst was painful and made me wanna cry at times, it made me appreciate our leads more and more even tho it hurt me

and it also made the plot about the war real and plausible because yes the war is brutal like that!Deaths happen, people suffer and post war effects are unforgiving. It added a realism and charm to this story! This novel is super good so don't ignore it just due to the angst. Tbh if you can read MDZS and caprure that scum gong, you'll be alright. This angst is mid tier at best. Bear the angst to enjoy this masterpiece of a story. No regrets!
    • The villains and side characters, i'll talk about them together because except few jackasses, no one was malicious in the novel. They just did what they felt was best for the MC and ML. We just couldn't hate them cause we understood where they were coming from and how sincere they were! I loved everyone of them! Hong Xiu, my loyal and sweet girl! Li Wuding and Xie Chunghui, the most loyal soldiers of their homeland. Eunuch Zhao who was always thinking the best for the emperor. Xue Yan, ML's uncle who watched him grow. Yang LiuAn and Xiao Fengyue, this couple that helped MC.
      Spoiler

I'm really thankful how they gave the MC closure after his first death! That really made me cry!

      [collapse]
Such well written side characters, I think I haven't found them in most of the novels. Only rare good novels have such well written stuff!
The ending was an HE and satisfying because yes these leads deserved the happiness of the whole world for so damnnn long! I haven't read the extras yet but I do hope they do tie some loose ends and fill up some plot holes! Edit:i read the extras and they are soooo goood! I loved them so much! Thank you Author for giving me happiness after the angsty main story! Xiao YuAn and Yan Heqing were really so heartwarming and I loved the alternate world too! Thank you for giving all those side characters a second chance!
Spoiler

to even the the novel's xiao Jungwan too! He transmigrated in Xiao YuAn's body after he survived the su*cide attempt and started taking care of his brother

[collapse]
I loved how the author gave proper screentime to the all the extras and showed their lives in the end and tied the loose ends! I feel particularly elated now!

Well I hope I did convince you guys to give it a try (i tried lol). Sorry, I really made this quite long but please read it and atleast try to go 64 chapter onwards before deciding whether you wanna continue or not. This story is really worth your time!

The novel has a very strong start, if it had continued like this, it might have gotten 4 or even 5 stars.

I put up with the MC's s*upidity for 120 chapter, but even my patience has its limits.

MC treats everything like he's an outsider, completely focused on following the plot, mainly getting ML together with his harem, even when it's obvious that the story has already deviated too heavily to correct it.

I was so relieved when he finally realised that it's not just a novel but a real, dynamic world,... more>> the "characters" living, breathing people, with their own thoughts and feelings.

This somehow gets thrown down a cliff only a few chapters later, like the author forgot about it, and MC is back to being an absolute moron with nothing better to do than forcing the unwilling "harem members" on the unwilling ML.

Misunderstandings are piling up until they resemble a mountain, all of them could have been prevented with the minimum of common sense and two short sentences.

I'm at chapter 120 and the story is basically back where it started, MC hasn't changed at all, and yet another misunderstanding was added.

The author seems to be unable to remember her own development, just like she's unable to build any meaningful tension not based on childish misunderstandings, it feels like I'm reading a really bad fanfiction, written at 3 am, with the tag "no beta we die like men".

MC is unbelievably dense as well.

Spoiler

Even so far into the story, after they kissed and made out, he seriously thinks that he has fatherly feelings for the ML, and he's stammering like a 12 years old schoolgirl confronted with her first crush, not like an adult man, or any normal person above 14.

[collapse]

It's beyond ridiculous, I think I've never been this annoyed with a novel, it's enraging. <<less

This is a piece of art.

Omg I cried so much reading this novel. At first I taught it would be a romantic comedy. Who would have taught that it would have angst. Ahh my heart hurts till now.

WARNING SPOILERS

Why angst?

Spoiler

The MC dies and get reincraned but his death really wound me.I wish that he would not have died and the romance could be between the MC and ML as enemy kings. Also one of the side character love story is too tragic.

I haven't been this frustrated with a main character for a long time.

Even with the low standards brought to us by the yaoi tag, most MCs are just predictable, cliche or boring. This novel brings to us all 3 traits and more.

So the novel starts out with the "prologue" section split into 3 chapters, already a sign of whats to come. At that point, the MC is being portrayed as this relatable/nerdy web novel reading character who believes all the stereotypical romance genre troupes are s*upid and nonsensical.

The main premise... more>> of this novel is that the MC made this negative review about how this web novel he was reading with a beautiful beginning, got ruined by the author killing of random important characters and giving the protagonist a harem. MC is then transmigrated into the novel plot as a villain. Ok. Typical bad yaoi plot point, nothing new.

With this type of prologue, you'd expect that the MC would want to fix all this villain's wrongs and help the "protagonist (ML) " focus on one woman right? Nope. Instead the MC spends all his brain cells trying to give the protagonist (ML) a harem.

Spoiler

With the first harem target, his sister, you can still sorta understand his motivations behind trying to get the ML and her together. He's the one who caused the change in fate that led to the 2 not meeting. Thus despite his sister clearly not wanting to meet the ML, he tried to match them together. I can accept that. However, at the 2nd harem target, he noticed on multiple occasions that she rather than liking the ML, liked his sister.

[collapse]

At this point, the MC is just yet another yaoi Mary Sue character. "Charismatic, " "funny, " "lively, " and "pure" as he misinterprets every single action made by the ML and harem members.

To make matters worse, halfway through the novel, the author suddenly just decided that the MC needed a tragic backstory and made up some reasons for MC's problems. So halfway through the novel, I guess the author finally figured out that the MC is not relatable as an "fellow web novel reader, " and just completely scrapped the idea. Now we're going for the poor, pitiful abused child that is just such a heartthrob cause... he got treated badly as a kid and now he's so pure and happy. Wow!

In the end, I know that this is all just yaoi filler material to make the "getting together scene" have a bigger payoff, but this is also the type of garbage that I can't stand at all.

Tbh this isn't even that bad among yaois, if I were rating this specifically based on yaois it'd be like a 3*. For some reason yaoi writers can't seem to write any side characters other than "super loyal to the MC and just happens to also have a same s*x relationship." <<less

Decent story. The very first chapters almost make it seem like a silly plot line, where the MC has a golden finger, but one soon learns this is far from the case. I would have to agree to the review that compares it to Romeo and Juliet, although usually not as annoying.

The best portion of the novel was the middle 150 or so chapters for me, ... more>>
Spoiler

when the MC essentially fought to save the north kingdom, ultimately to fail, then piddling along until his death. The last novel arc was not as dramatic or intricate.

[collapse]

The MC is fairly likable, although too dense at times. Still, he tended to be better at thinking of solutions and having a proactive attitude compared to other 'shou' who cry and are perpetually weak. He had a banter and silly, upbeat personality, but had many deep rooted issues mentally. MC never came off as too s*upid for me to stomach, but also was never a genius. A major shortcoming is that I think his vaguely suicidal/not caring about his own well being could have been explored (in writing) or discussed with (ML) more, rather than used for dramatic effect.
Spoiler

For example, you know his father only used him as a heir and brother never ending up loving him, but you never learn more about these situations than that. The tragic ending he had with his brother in his previous life could have tied into the tragedy he that unfolds with Xie (a general/soldier that went mad after North Kingdom fell) Honestly, after everything that happened to him, MC should have had more PTSD near the end of the story, but instead it dissolved to one more tragic injury and fluff between MC and ML.

[collapse]

Speaking of drama, there was way too much exaggeration in the plot. ML or MC is injured every other chapter, I swear. Yes, angst is nice, but it was excessive. The plot also varied this way, from the well placed, emotional death of side characters or the not as well written dramatic falling off cliffs again and again or kidnapping scenes. Along with this was the aggravating miscommunication that lasted past the downfall of the north kingdom, albeit this misunderstanding was eventually resolved in one frank conversation being ML and MC, which was quite enjoyable.

As for the ML, while not as interesting as the MC, he was a gentle, persistent, loyal, and cold sort, and does have a few good traits compared to many of the other BL novel MLs. For one, not 'rapey', second a little more emotional, smiling here or there at MC's nonsense, cute actions like insecurity which leads him to check on the MC frequently. Sadly, the conversations between the MC and ML were good at times, but rarely reached the philosophical depth you'd think they'd have after being a pining pair of love birds for so long.

There were also side characters that I quite liked, MC's sister Pingyang, villagers, a few army men from the North, but with the quick pace of the story, these characters were often left behind after their small arcs were resolved, or died tragically. You see Pingyang for about half the novel, then she and the others are gone until the end. More of them could have occupied small roles throughout the novel, thus leaving a greater impact.

All in all, it kept me entertained and there was a bit of good thought (for example how it feels to be on the losing side of a kingdom), but enough of it was cliche/underdeveloped that I can't go as far as 5 stars.

*Still, I will be keeping up with the eng. Translation, as some parts hit me right in the feels, as well as a comparison with the manhua (which I have heard will be a lot different from the novel. Great, maybe they can tone down the silly angst and tragedy!) <<less

I can’t go on with this! Although the plot is really interesting, but the MC is acting like a lunatic. He clearly know he’s in ancient times but doesn’t even try to act like ancient people. He’s reincarnated into an emperor but acts like a lunatic and not like an authoritative figure at all. He says things that don’t make sense and that have no connection with what’s happening at that time. And even though it’s like this the people around him just accept that from one day to the... more>> other the emperor is suddenly humble, doesn’t indulge in carnal desire, says weird things and so on. I can’t go on with reading this since it’s lacking sense and logic. I can follow the MC thoughts and it’s just irritating. I’m baffled it put up with it for 22 chapters... I don’t recommend it at all. <<less

TLDR: Loved the novel. Don't waste your time with reviews and go read it!

This transmigration to a novel trope may have been used to death but somehow I find a new story that can keep the overused trope fresh. The MC in this novel is just so lovable. I've always loved characters who can stay true to themselves no matter what life throws at them. It might be my first time seeing a character who needed so! Much! Exclamations!! Haha With the way he died the first time I didn't... more>> expect him to have such a happy go lucky personality. With the way he is and the way the first part of the novel was progressing, I thought this would be a comedy and a lighthearted read. But then the looming reason for ML's existence wasn't ignored. The little innocent changes to the novel caused by the MC wasn't ignored. The original plot had to be addressed, ML's lust for revenge wasn't just glossed over and forgotten due to MC's kindness. And so, knives were thrown tears were shed. After gaining my emotional stability I can say that everything has been so beautifully written I truly wish I could read Chinese. Please do go read it if you are still not decided.

The most important thing in a story for me is to have fleshed out characters. This novel may not give you a detailed back story of each and every characters but I appreciate that characters who do evils things or betray (ML, and others in the original novel), do it due to who they are as a person and their experiences, not because the plot needed an evil character. As such, I haven't hated any characters in this novel (so far @ ch.70). Even characters that plot to kill the ML still has some part of them that I can sympathize as human. Writing in this manner gives a depth and puts it a cut above others regardless of the plot and is very difficult to accomplish. KUDOS to the author. Thank You so much to all the people involved in the translation and giving me a chance to read this story.

PS: I apologize for my unorganized ramblings. <<less

This novel is interesting unlike other transmigration novels where MC tries to take the role help the ML too much lol.. But this one here is so good, the plot, the characters and everything is so interesting. Especially the MC is just too much for me.

  • So just go for it.. No one will regret.

A lot has been said by previous reviewers, most of which is quite true. I too recommend this novel with my entire heart, but ask potential readers to keep the following in mind: it's hinted that the reason why Xiao Yuan - the main character - acts in a free-spirited and unrestrained way is because of his transmigration method. If you don't want to spoil this little piece of information from chapters 1-2, you can stop reading here, but I wouldn't say this counts as a spoiler, seeing as it... more>> doesn't play a part in the story after it is mentioned. If you are still with me, allow me to elaborate. Xiao Yuan transmigrates by committing su*cide - a properly planned one at that. What the reader can conclude from this is that he had given up on the conventions we are bound to, on material desires, on life itself. Being terminally ill doesn't always drive a person to such an extreme, on the contrary, some cling on to life and refuse to let go. At the end of his original life, Xiao Yuan seemed so empty and tired from all the suffering he had to go through. He jumped out the window without a moment of hesitation, without a thought for anyone or anything. How would such a person feel to be reborn as royalty with all of his memories? In my opinion, he would do the same as Xiao Yuan. He would try to keep things proper so as not to ruin the country, but on a personal level he would do and say whatever he wants, without a care for what people think of him, living like each and every day was a miracle. I think this was more obvious at the beginning, when he clearly separated himself from the Northern Emperor, but it gradually toned down as the calamities upon the country came and he took the position of monarch seriously. <<less

I get that this might not be everyone’s cup of tea, and I remind you that this novel literally will squeeze your tears, stabbed your heart, but also makes you laugh.

Classic troupe about transmigration as a villain in historical novel. But what makes me love this novel is you will think this is comedic style novel where the MC is a little bit air headed. But then, the knives flying around, angst torturing your mind, but you can’t stop reading this until finished, cursing author for sending those knives.

How could... more>> a deep hatred between enemies where your country trampled and people you loved gone from the war be erased just because you love someone? MC really had a hard time struggle to change his view from the outsider as transmigrator then collide with realization that the world he lived in is more than just novel. Every char had their own black and white side, you can’t hate them (except for the pure canon fodder that will be killed very fast). MC and ML gone for a long way before they finally settled with pursuit their happiness.

MC not seeking for revenge, that’s what I love about this novel. Yes he’s silly. People might say that he’s s*upid. But for me, it took a lot of courage to choose living your life in happiness rather than hold your grudge. From the start till the end, he still choose to be kind toward another.

The translation is really good. Great job! <<less

4.2 - It's a good novel, but I really wish there was a tragedy tag included. I actively avoid tragic stories so this caught me by surprise. The story started lighthearted and seemed like it would be a fluffy read and then...

Spoiler

Character deaths and misunderstandings galore. I stopped at chapter 94 because my heart was hurting and the misunderstanding between MC and ML was DRAGGING. They made MC WAY too dense about ML's feelings. I skipped ahead and he doesn't find out until chapter 136. 39 chapters later!!!

Comedy my eff-fricking ass.

Great writing, but just, do NOT get attached to any of the characters. I heard it's a HE, but obviously not for some of the side characters, possibly more, since I just can't go on reading. F-ck.

This needs 'TRAGEDY' tag. Just because the MC and protagonist doesn't die, doesn't mean it's not a tragedy when nearly everyone else does.

I like angst but not character deaths ok, especially for some potential side CP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That was hilarious... and painful.

Anyway, I'm thankful for the happy ending. If there wasn't, my heart would have been in extreme suffocation. All those ups and downs really tested my will and determination. I never felt I was masochist until I gritted my teeth and finished reading it.

But the satisfaction I got after the ending made all the abuse worth it.

That Time I Got Reincarnated as the Homos*xual Villain of a Straight Harem Novel
All my years of laughing at isekais and young adult romance novels have caught up to me. Karma is deliciously evil and now I, a literary snob, found myself reading an absolutely insane transmigration novel. My ancestors are surely rotating in their graves with enough power to bring electricity to a small village.
Well, enough of these laments. I stumbled across hsav while searching for danmei that has lesbian side couples. I was simply curious if... more>> such a thing exists. In any other situation I doubt I would have touched the novel, but somehow, bored out of my mind, I read it despite cringing at the insane few chapters.
HSAV is a bit of a parody novel. I read through the first few chapters without comprehending much (what the hell is an evil president quote even?) and only persevered through the beginning of the actual story because I was curious about what would happen. As it stands, curiosity killed the cat and I found myself actually emotionally invested. The tone of the story in the beginning doesn't prepare you for the kind of real emotions involved later. I got attached to all the wrong characters who ended up dying of course. The shock about the realness of this world is doubly experienced by both the reader and the isekai'd protagonist, who until then is seen being mostly carefree in this world he has been transported to.
For the first half of the novel you have the honor of watching the main character be impossibly dense - he's convinced the male lead hates him while at the same time he's trying to set him up with who he remembers are the wives in his harem in the original novel. Spoiler alert: the male lead is not interested in any of the women anymore. Hilariously the main character refuses to realize that in "taking over the plotline of the wives" he is becoming... the wife.
As for the characters I'd say the male lead is a bit shallow. We don't know that much about him beyond his bullheaded dedication to the main character. Otherwise even the main character has good character building and has a compelling backstory despite the crazy few chapters from before he was isekai'd.
And of course I can't not mention the humor and references. Throughout the whole novel our main character proceeds to terrify these poor (early middle ages? ancient? not sure about the time period) side characters by reciting Marx and Mao and singing Chinese pop songs in what I have no doubt is the typical ahjeossi at karaoke voice. I'd like to thank the author also to teaching me more about marxian dialectics than my four years at a liberal arts college. Also are all the authors of danmei secretly Chinese literature majors? How is it that there's constant literary references even in this work. Either China is doing something right when it comes to literature education or university professors over there write isekais in their spare time. <<less

I was scrolling through NU and saw this novel again. This novel brought me so much tears and heart-ache. It's so painfully realistic and sad.

My OTP was never MC and ML but rather Chungui and General Yi so you could expect how f*cking devastated I was with this novel. I cried so much and re-read so much hoping the outcome changed for them! If my writing skills were passable I would've gone to ao3 already and made my fanfic.

This novel is HE. Don't worry. The characters are humans who can... more>> make mistakes and aren't omnipotent. Scars may heal but wouldn't necessarily fade. I'm glad that MC and ML are happy now! My Chun Gui and General Yi are definitely living together happily and reincarnated together, ok! <<less

This is one of the best danmei Novel and one of my favorite. Other danmei novel usually not focused on the main pair. There will be other side pair too. Sometimes I don't like that because what I want to see is the development on the main pair. And this novel really are my cup of tea. Not only the novel is focused on the main pair, the angst was really good and I love it. All the conflict in this novel are focused on disturbing the relationship of this... more>> main pair so I'm not bored one bit because there are no side stories or other side pairing that gets a whole arc of story. If you are like me, this is a recommended novel for you! <<less

Thank you translater team including avacado!!!! You guys are fast and awsome!!!! Love you lots!!

I love this novel its so funny. Its a bit unrealistic but still great none the less. The MC is silly. The ML is a plank of wood but a hot smexy plank of wood lol.

All the silly funny misunderstanding are just outrageous and the manhua version of this is beautiful!!

... more>> I highly recommend.

For those who are worried the novel is over 200 chapters. The chapters are very short so dont let the numbers deceive you.

Happy reading

Started out strong! I was really excited to read this one but I couldn't make it very far without feeling annoyed. It's not a bad story so dont let this review deter you from trying it... But I personally found it lousy.

I mean, it's always refreshing to read about a decent (intellectually) MC with a sense of humor. But.... It gets to a point where the entire conflict is just a bunch of misunderstandings. Lots and lots of unnecessary mis- communication. It made the story feel severally lacking.

Spoiler

The MC takes the place of the emperor.. The ML is the prince of the country that was destroyed by the MC's host's empire... I understand that it would've been hard to just 'live laugh love ehehe get together' given the circumstances and honestly yes ty for making it a lil realistic author. This was an important part of their relationship that needed to be solved. There was no need for any of the abrupt and unnatural lack of communication between them.

Why are the characters thinking 'oh he hates me now!' Without any proper dialogue leading up to that? They were both dealing with their own thoughts and worries while also wrongly assuming what the other might be going through. It was very vexing to read through lol

[collapse]

If you're going to include angsty misunderstandings.. Make them make sense.

The balance between humor and angst felt like I was reading a story written by two different authors. I love that it includes both and as we all know, the two genres can co-exist but felt super unnatural here. <<less
