one of the first novels I read on this site and I still think this is the best short story in modern setting. Highly recommend to those who don't mind shedding tears.

This story was showing us about how people love and pursue love in a way that most of us would never want to had. If this reality, I will detest this kind of pursue by he yujin. And tho this is a character in novel, I still hate the way he yujin pursue her love.

But why read it. Well this is a novel, a story. Love stoey can't be always ablut some fluffy, hot, understandinh, sweet kind of love. Love even had another faces. Peopke can pursue love in wrong... more>> way, it happened in the real life. Whate er the reason is. But this story was well written, it hurt you so much,

If you want the ordinary love story, this is not for you. But if you want to read a story about another side of love, how love can be selfish and unreasonable. Open your horizon about how human nad their thousand way to pursue love, you can read this. You might be love it or hate it, but it open your eyes about another side of love.

True to be told, there are people out there whose finally like ML, love the FL till death tho he was hate her before. That is what strange about human, sometimes, you might never know about your self until it come to you. <<less

FL's love for him was obsessive but I feel so sorry for her. In their two years of marriage, she didn't received any love from the ML, of course it's because he don't love her at all BUT I can see that the ML STILL DIDNT love her even after he learned about her condition. It was just guilt all along.

It's a pity his 2nd marriage didn't end well for he was still haunted by the past.

But it was still sad. Really heartbreaking.

No matter how many times I've read this, I cannot help but cry.

The story of love and hate or is it the obligation to feel hate. Gao Fei and He Yunjin's story forever touched my heart, the final line of the novel is accompanied by the translator's note hit me so hard. I highly recommend this novel to anyone but be prepared to bawl your eyes out.

Love and hate they say is two sides of the same coin...

The story is very layered and their are multiple ways a reader can interpret it (and that's the fun of it). But I see it like this that even though it might not seem that way on the surface but He Yujin and Gao Fei are very similar. Their intense love and hate are all intermingled to form a depth of emotion that normal couples never have.

I truly came to believe in the end that no matter what happened... more>> and how it happened, they are meant to be with each other. And probably Gao Fei felt the same. <<less

It's 3 am. I am IN TEARS. This story is AMAZING

I have nothing but love & respect for the author & translator. They're both f*cking gods to me at this point.

This story will easily remain on my 'the best romance novels' list for quite sometime.

one of the many reasons I love the author is how they were not afraid to make the ending sad just because they feared the readers' anger & displeasure. Hell, they made the last & most important (saddest) characters' growth & improvement (?) in their last moments of life.

I hink we need more sad-ending stories like this. WAY MORE

Worth reading.

Love which used by many to cross bottom lines but can it justify morally degrading actions?

He Yujin did truly love Gao Fei, I don't deny that but her love was embedded with selfiness and stubbornness, she loved too much that she forget that Gao Fei was human too with emotions.

... more>> She r*ped (drugged him to s*x with her on wedding night), forced, corced him to get married to her and she was third party between his gf and him

Can you imagine loving yourself to the person trample over your dignity, forced you with your weakness and even r*ped you ?

I never felt Gao Fei actions toward yujin wasn't justified, Gao Fei could have lived better life if she has never interved

But it the end He Yujin loved won, she died in arms of her beloved Beacuse till the end she too understand love belongs to selflessness and her loved got fullfiled when Gao Fei cried n her arms

Gao Fei loved for He Yujin filled with Hate and love, in the end even when he would wanted to her love, could he forget his father damaged leg or his trampled dignity and moments of weaknesses he gone through?

If only He Yujin father thought himself and taught her that money can't buy happiness and it cant be forced and If only He Yujin understood love doesn't meant to be selfish and other party also have basic right to choose what his happiness.

If only Gao Fei could be more forgiving then he wouldn't have regret, Gao Fei too loved He Yujin and in the end he lost himself to That love. <<less

A whole lot of destruction caused by selfishness and stubbornness. That's it. I don't know anymore whom to blame lol. I am numb emotionally after reading this. Like hell u can't even hate or love a single character bc they have dual strengths. I mean how pitiful trio it was. Like heck of emotional shits to explode you.

I just felt bad for the 2nd FML like literally she was used to fulfill FMLs wish by the guy she loved.

Loved this story! I like how the first part is in the FL's POV and the last part is the ML's POV. I teared up a lot.

A special bonus is the Translator's summary/feedback at the end. ^^
This is a highly recommended read!

His last thoughts made me weep. He really became a madman searching for the treasure he had once not taken care of but he unconsciously rejects that he became one.

"If she had already found a new relationship there, I would use every means possible to destroy her relationship and family to become her husband.

Normal I don't read tragic novels not because I don't love them but I know once I have started it will imprint in my mind in a way no other novel could even with happy endings..

So once when I came across this novel I was in dilemma cause it had good ratings and reviews were positive.. maybe it was due to my mood today I ended up reading it and I can say if I don't find good novel soon then I will be remembering the two leads who took... more>> my heart..

Honestly I don't blame any lead... many people assume FL was selfish maybe she was but who knows if you were in her situation you wouldn't make the same decision she did that is clinging to one you love and only thing you want when you know that your days are numbered.. who doesn't fear death but more than that people fear to be alone in their final moment.. FL she wanted someone to be with her even though she knew she was wrong. Human are selfish and she never denied that.. as for ML I can't fault him for not treating her better as he didn't know about her sickness.. he fell for her unknowingly and unwilling even if he knew he shouldn't but maybe denial was the only thing he could do to keep living

Thank you so much author and translator for this little gem. I usually hate tragedies and characters whom make awful life choices... however the author did an amazing job making me cry over her main characters; Minute details and beautiful proses allowed me understand their choices and the trajectory that follows. The length of the story is also perfect no dragging on the drama but allowing readers to view a picture of an imperfect life without judgement... because once you see witness the journey that led to the ending, you... more>> can just cry and accept it. <<less

Re-read this while listening to olivia rodrigo's favorite crime, and it made it 10x more emotional.

This is a masterpiece. The emotions were conveyed properly. It made me cry, hate and also understand. It's so good that I will probably make a sequel on my head for the next few days.

I hated MC on the early chapters. I hated her for being greedy, and staying with a man who didn't love until she died. She had everything and she chose to settle for less. I love how she persevered, but I hated her for not letting go. The were hurting each other but stayed till the end. She loved him too much, and that's her crime. I hated ML when I first read his pov and also his first love. Why did she wait for someone who is literally married? ML kept raising flags (like how he never loved his wife, and emotianally abused FL (i mean they abused each other but u get my point)) and she ignored that and marries him and hopes for a happy ending? She ruined 7 or 8 years of her life for what??

but im satisfied with the ending and how it turned out. Lol I just wanted to vent bcs im frustrated with the first love.

This is by far the only novel that I would re-read the sentence to make sure there’s no hidden meaning. Bawling my eyes out literally from the first page to the last.

I like how thoughts are convey by the translator at the end makes me feel that there’s a closure there, to further proves some point that I found meaningful and agreeable.

100% recommended this for reads. Just make sure you’re not out in public as those tears would come non stop.

As I love the FL, I should not sympathize with ML but I do. I understand his point too.

Though the MC is selfish, I really did like her. The MC only learnt how to let of Gao Fei at the time of her death. Though I really wished she had treasured her own life. The author has done an excellent job with the plot, the storyline and the details. I also love this story because the author does leave us with the story from the ML's point of view too. Though the ML never admitted but I really do feel he did love her. The ML is prideful,... more>> righteous. Though I feel bad that his second marriage was destroyed too. The tag "tragedy" really does it's work here. It leaves you bawling your eyes out.

Overall, I really love this story though it's angst. <<less

Sad story, but it send messages effectively.

This story taught me not to love guys excessively. It'll hurt enough to depression if one day he's changed/cheating/dead.

Just love him enough as my partner/spouse, not treating him as God.

This is so sad. Got me bawling my eyes out. Both parties were at fault, but I can't help but side with the girl. She just wanted to love, and she did everything she could to have it. Her approach was wrong, but I feel so sad for her. She was so desperate for his love, but she didn't get any in return. The guy on the other hand, he was too prideful to admit that he started to fall for her. He took her love for granted. Now she's... more>> gone, he finally admits that he misses her. I hated the 2nd wife though. She's selfish as hell. She could've just divorced the guy, but how could she abort the baby?!?? She could've just given birth and leave the baby with the father if she wanted to, but she went along and aborted the baby. She was luckier than the OG MC that she received the love of the guy (not that it's worth it, the guy's a douche), but she tr*shed everything just because her husband wouldn't go to the doctor (he has rights and you can't force him to!!!). All in all, a very tragic story. I hope in the next life, the OG MC would fall for a better guy, and not meet GaoFei. <<less

My first time reading Chinese novel, I dont regret it.

It's written beautifully, and translated beautifully. I love this. I love how author portrayed how MC feels. The story is angst and I cry my eyes out in every chapter. Now I can barely lift my eyelid because it feels so heavy as if a stone patched in it.

The FL is really transparent, and her love is indeed so pure. We can feel her sincere heart through the writing. Otherwise, the ML is a man of few words. He can't recognize... more>> his own feeling. He can't even be honest to his own self till the end. <<less
