I'm gonna point out my main issue with this novel since other reviews don't want to talk about it:
It's how unrealistic every character interaction feels when it comes to one thing: hostility. The author sucks at writing this shit. The amount of asspulls and nonsense that will come out of nowhere just to make hundreds of enemies for the MC. Every slight thing means revenge, mu*der, or a fight. And ironically, most of the time it's not even because of the protagonist's horrible temperament but rather some random plot... more>> device.
Everyone is so quick to throw hands, so petty over the smallest things, so irrational and bloodthirsty... that it seems cartoonish at best. There's even a chapter dedicated to exploring Daemon society and how they are somehow more peaceful and non-confrontational than humans. Which is s*upid.
I struggle to read past every chapter beyond the 200+ mark ever since we delved more into the cultivation world. Where the problems I mentioned appear even more often.
It hurts me because the novel itself is not horrible. The worldbuilding, characters, and fight scenes are better than most novels I have read here. But godammit is everything else so dumb. <<less

One of the best novels I’ve read and my current favourite.

You can tell the author is putting a lot of effort in the story. Things aren’t contrived and events develop naturally. Characters aren’t one dimensional though some are left behind (this makes sense as the MC is developing quickly and we do revisit them from time to time. They are not forgotten and can still drive the story).

It’s fun to read especially without the annoyances of forced situations, or people appearing out of nowhere just so the MC can slap... more>> someone.

I’m looking forward to how the story develops. It’s a great journey. <<less

This is by far the best novel I ever read in terms of storyline, characters and even the world itself.

The translation is also done amazingly and it makes the storyline even more gripping.

this is honestly the only novel I would put up $45 a month on p to support. It is just that amazing!

the story is a about a reincarnated human, regular bloke that is reincarnated as farmer in a incredibly poor farm house and his rise with simple guidance, the story is sticks true to cultivation for the fact that advancing is very well paced.

there are no arrogant young masters and all side characters have enough depth that u know they exist instead of a name and being forgotten, it is a really good novel worth reading :)

Legend of the Great Sage is solid.

Easy to tell the author and translator are invested in quality. Story telling is great. Character development is awesome. Culture and world building well paced and great. A lot of maturity and twists and turns. Never a dull moment, and never a repeat.

Try it out to see if it is your flavor.

This novel has be an interesting ride so far with the MC not getting super powers simply because he transmigrated but because of an encounter in his new world. While I am not a fan of Harems the main character is not going for multiple wives he has the more organic I transmigrated into a new world and I Have the power/wealth/fame to get with multiple women so like a guy he takes advantage some stay and some get left behind. While it is a story about a guy cultivating... more>> so it does fall into several tropes of the MC being OP it is a great read with Romance (not always the girl falling for him because he is the MC) Action (some great fight descriptions) and adventure (the world Building) The translator also translates the Author notes which can be hilarious. The new translator is also very active with his community in his Discord allowing for greater understanding and discussion of the story. <<less

I am someone that enjoys reading novels for their strengths and ignore minor-moderate issues of novel as long as they aren't glaringly obvious. Don't know what it felt to others but romance and female characters were handled pretty realistically other than the fact that females just can't seem to find other guys over 10s of years. By realistic, I mean: Females don't go for full on emotional investment right off the bat just due to 2 hours of intimate interactions. Intimacy and understanding between MC and females develops organically for... more>> most part sometimes even over 500+ chapters. Each female has a distinct personality with their own charms and quirks and I had my fair share of fun reading their developments.

Plot in itself isn't bad and I consider it a semi-primary plus point of story.

MC personality isn't bad, kinda straightforward. Nothing strategic or psychological but I guess it works.

All in all,

Romance : 9.5/10

Characters 9.5/10

Plot 8/10

Consistency 9/10

Logic bombs 1/10

So all in all something close to 9/10. <<less

people say this show as a slow cultivation progress but that is not true, it has a decent pace. The problem is that his "breakthroughs" hardly makes much of a difference, he still struggles most of the time. Even tho he has this amazing cultivation technique he still barely manages to fight equal realm opponents, and sometimes they totally outclass him. I don't mind reading a book with an average strength guy but don't advertise it like he is the sh*t every 2nd chapter just to disappoint us in the... more>> next.

Beside that this is a pretty decent story, it has good characters that are interesting and developed, of course a few cliche arrogant young masters with IQ of a walnut but what wuxia novel doesn't. <<less

Good stuff. I'd give this a 9 or 9.5 out of ten and the beginning is 9.5+

The MC is evil to an extent, so watch out for that, but to me that's a plus. Aside from that, any complaints I have are less specific to this novel and more towards Chinese novels in general, like: combat is meh, pointless peanut gallery nonsense now and then, dumb villains with a big background that are allowed to run around with mediocre protection, in other words, elder-takes-revenge-for-young-master bait (though they don't appear in... more>> droves or anything).

Those are usually a pretty big minus for me, but either this novel did them in a way that doesn't bother me too much or I'm just used to it by this point hahaha (Most of these chinese novels urgently need a "mindless writing" tag, I'm pretty sure they have a term for that in chinese).

What could make you dislike this novel: Harem (not done too badly imo), Power fantasy (to an extent, not too distasteful imo), quality drop from the beginning (this is a pretty big deal, if you're not invested by the time the quality drops, I doubt you'll get invested later), MC just does what he feels like (sometimes that means being a hero, other times a horrible villain)

What isn't a problem at all: There's no SIMPing (some people thought a certain part is simping, but it's just the author wording himself badly and people being oversensitive to it). <<less

Don't quite understand some of the negative reviews here.

There's a lot of good stuff, likeable MC and side characters, clear goal from the beginning, awesome cultivation techniques., etc

I really like the clash between his 2 identities.

The female lead is kinda weak, but then again, she doesn't show up that much and he still has side chicks.

SIMPLE SUMMARY. Forgo the reviews, go past the negativity, go past the super positive review. Experience the novel on your own, I trust you that if you get far, you will enjoy it. Thanks and enjoy the novel.

Simply put, don't believe people that are far too into their own thoughts on how a novel are supposed to be. EG. Someone calling the MC a hypocrite as below.

As someone who has read far too into this novel, I believe that the people calling the main protagonist an evil bastard or... more>> some unreasonable names like that literally breathe in edginess.

Main character. Justice? Justice huh, he admitted that he doesn't want to be doing justice work, he doesn't want to be applied to being both evil and good. I can see his thought process as wanting to go his own way, regardless of who tries to block him. The only reason he went after people and stealing their stuff is as I said before, he wanted to go further. If people do good he leave them be, if people do bad he will do bad to them as well. Enough said.

The world building is one of the greatest that I have experienced, and I mean it. I have stuck through with hundreds of different novels. Some terrible, some great, some fantastic. This reminds me of the good old days of when I first just started experiencing novels and Coiling Dragon and Stellar Transformation came out daily, I would just re-read it, again and again, and again until new chapters comes out. IT IS LARGE, I will personally tell you this. The world is fantastically large with certain plot points that will come out later in the novel even though we might just think oh "This person is never gonna come out again after this" NO! That is not the case.

Characters- This, I have no words to word this out. It's just that like someone said above me, some of the more popular review of this novel have stated "Even the ghost girl that didn't speak have more personality than most novel characters." EVERYTHING and everyone has their purpose, everyone has their agenda. We as a reader have just stumbled into this MC's life. <<less

In one of the author's notes to the readers he says, "I threw away the scenes of romance I was skilled in the most, to write scenes of battle that troubled me the most. I picked up the walking stick for leveling and training, learning how to set up and achieve climaxes, learning how to ensure constant releases."

So the author discarded what he was good at to learn a different writing style. I fundamentally disagree with tossing away the old for the new, but that's not the purpose of... more>> a review. The first 250 chapters feel like the author is learning. Once we get to volume 5 the world comes to life. However, that's as far as we are, so it's impossible for me to guess at the final result. So far it's not terrible nor it is it my favorite. The relationships and characters, when they finally appear, are fantastic. The combat, pacing and progression systems are mediocre at best. <<less

I rate the first volume a 3 but the novel keeps on getting better. It feels like the author didn't really know what he wanted to do with the character or the novel initially. Once he started finding his direction though the world building has been fantastic. I also like the many interesting side characters as the author really puts in the work to flesh them out. The best part is the MC's relationship with his sidekick. The MC is not your usual xianxia MC as he's just a mediocre... more>> guy who's fumbling along as best he can. He's the MC only because he lucked into an OP cultivation method. The sidekick is actually more your typical xianxia MC, with a tragic past and out of this world talent. <<less

It's still early in the story but so far it's somewhat similar to 'Record of a Mortal's Journey' and 'Way of the Devil', except this author realized that those stories have terrible end games as without any characters to care about these series start to become incredibly repetitive after an arc or two. As such the author does appear to be trying to set the groundwork for other 3 dimensional characters we might care about as well as a sort of family for the protagonist.

I can't say whether this will... more>> be successful but so far it does have tremendous promise. <<less

Finding this xianxia novel with whopping 4.5 rating and nice reviews, I was expecting something really interesting. In summary it wasn't bad but it also had a pretty generic feel to it.

Pros:

+ No non-blood related cute sisters, peerless beauties and other damsels in distress so far. Not making countless cardboard girls fall for MC right from the get go because author wants to emphisise MC's greatness and power without actually putting an effort is a good thing.

+ No magical superartifacts, hidden abilities and ghost grandpas. + Not that bad of... more>> a MC. He still arrogant and overbearing bastard, who puts others in three categories: friend, enemy, dust, but he at least have some emotions and principles. Still, he isn't that smart and wins his battles mostly by pure strength and by s*upidity of his enemies.

+ Good pacing of a story. No 10 chapter long midbattle thoughts and cultivation descriptions that just here to add word count.

Cons:

- Characters. Antagonists have no redeeming qualities, they are just here to create troubles and be stepping stones for MC. Of course they all are arrogant, c*cky and have no troubles killing the innocent, no dillemas, hard choices and grey moral they are BAD, the end. There is no great ploys and their only strategy is to use numbers after which comes the "boss" battle. MC's friends are somewhat better depicted, some of them are cunning, others are goodnatured, but alas they are your usual "___ saved my life! Now I will forever become his most loyal follower " with no character progression.

- Not to mention minor plot holes and s*upid decisions like having an entire region regulary sacked by bandit camp for many years or letting enemies escape unscathed after their ambush failed. <<less

So far, this novel is good... The story so far seems to move very slowly, but the plot or the story is fresh I’ve never seen anything similar to this (plot wise). Would definitely recommend giving this series a shot. The story is beginning to pick up and I've been looking forward to every chapter.

Should have written this... that is one author who really does excellent work with a non-human main character. this thing is pure excellence, for the first 100 chapters or so... but like I was afraid of it quickly falls short being the average story of cat and mouse until the roles flip.

c600

I am amending my previous evaluation. it is not average but good, a step higher yet still a step lower than what I had initially come to expect. it's a good read, but one cannot help feeling a vague... more>> sense of Déjà vu that sensation of having read it somewhere before. that said the story is currently every bit as interesting and engaging as it was in the first 120 chpts. <<less

I've read about 70ish chapters. I don't see the plot is the most intricate or mind boggling, but what sets this apart from other novels is that it is a good cultivation story about a demonic method. Not a "demonic" method that is considered "really evil" by the whole world and is banned and yet the MC acts like any other person but rather a demonic story where the main components are alcohol and meat to cultivate it.

I would say I have read quite a bit of cultivation stories but... more>> whenever its about demonic method, it is either a "really evil" method but the MC acts like everyone one of us and is basically a good guy trapped in bad skin or its a MC with no empathy what so ever towards humanity and often showing extremely limited intelligence, which should not be attributed to a human being, in order to create those really cool moments like massacring a whole clan of people just because they kidnapped your girl.

Of course I don't know how this will progress however so far I like it, even if I don't think its plot is amazing, as I feel like the author has nicely shown what a demonic technique should be like and that alone makes me want to read it. <<less
