After dying alone in a mental institution, Fang Junrong discovered that she was the evil mother-in-law in a prominent family doting novel. Her daughter-in-law was the female lead who was loved by all.

In the novel, the female lead was kind and nice, and the male lead loved her so much that he’d die for her in a heartbeat.

Her future father-in-law doted on her and treated her better than his own daughter.

Fang Junrong, the evil mother-in-law, was the only one who didn’t care for her. She had gotten the evil character’s script and wanted to set the female lead up every chance that she got and finally landed herself in the mental institution.

After she was rebirthed and facing her son who wanted her blessings, Fang Junrong tore up the script. Whoever wanted the role of the evil mother-in-law could have it! She was going to get a divorce and take half of the money, then she’d figure out where she wanted to go from there alongside her daughter!

Just as the title might suggest, this novel is about face-slapping, and it does deliver. There are no stakes, no struggles, no challenges, no emotional fluctuations, no intelligent antagonists, no philosophical depths. Our MC slaps every face she wants to slap with the barest effort. The characters are fairly dull and cookie-cutter, but -- after all, we s*aves of capitalism like uniformity and cookies. The novel may be suitable for consumption on the commute home from work, after a long day when one's brain is on low battery.

Under normal circumstances,... more>> my rating for such a novel would be a 3 out of 5. After all, I grew up reading Tamora Pierce's Song of the Lioness quartet, so I'm quite tolerant of people sinking into faints as a way to end a chapter. However, I cannot really give passing grades this time, because this author seems to know so little about science, magic, or business -- despite MC relying on all three areas to rise. There is no functioning system, no planning, no logic to any of it. It's worse and more pointless than Edward Cullen's diamond sparkle skin. Some people's suspension of disbelief would not be disturbed by such things, but mine was. Toss in a big cup of limp exposition and you have a particularly tasteless soup for the mind. I drank slightly over a quarter of it for the water content, but I have to be honest about the lack of flavour or nutritional value. Two stars. <<less

Good story if you want face-slapping left and right. It’s all about revenge and screwing them over.

I enjoyed it but felt that MC was wayyyyyy too OP and eventually found it repetitive.

There’s practically very little romance. And it’s really in the later parts of the story and it’s quite subtle.

4/5 because it’s a good story but not my cup of tea.

This was a really fun read. The FL is strong in her own right and what I loved the most was the fact that there was no ML coming to take away her spotlight.

In many of these novels, the author claims the FL is independent but the reader knows that the ML is backing her. In this novel, there is no such thing. The FL can handle herself completely and that was really nice to read about. Mostly because I've been reading so many novels where the FL can only... more>> rely on the ML's backing/possessive bs and it was starting to wear me down.

Side-note: The translation for this novel is odd. I dunno how the translator (Fuyu Neko) divides their chapters but their chapter 72 translation is like chapter 25 in the raws. It really threw me off when I went to MTL. <<less

I like how smartly and practically MC took her revenge. Its a very quick and smooth read. I recommend it to anyone who wants to read revenge novel

Spoiler

For people who don't like cliffhanger the mentioned divorce gets finalised in c59 so you won't have to wait that long for next chapters.

I got bored and dropped it. Gave two stars, just for the translator who did excellent work. It isn’t their fault the story was boring

Spoiler

Honestly, after the husband died it was just the FL cheating her “enemies” out of money.

I have no idea why the son was so attached to the OFL, was he drugged? I mean she killed his father and made him (the son) go bankrupt and cheated on him

I wanted more of their story and less of useless gem auctions

I have been avoiding this novel because of some low rate review. After reading it. I actually like it it just irritate me when the YaGe and some cannon fodder is messing things up. Our MC would fight people with Laws.

Absolutely fantastic. I love it. If you like novels where the MC isn’t really challenged all that much and is kinda OP, but is also actually a good person who doesn’t kill people or frame them for crimes or anything, check this one out. Every single person who gets taken down gets taken down legally and deservedly. They all walk into traps by doing evil deeds. There’s really nothing but subtext so far in terms of romance but that makes sense with where the story has gone and MC’s backstory.... more>> You will be rooting for terrible husband, baco-bits son and fake white lotus daughter in law to go down. <<less

I won't talk about the plot but I would give it 5 stars for one reason only and that is that MC didn't get back together with her husband for the sake of family and stuff... A few days ago I read a bl manga about an abusive (physical and emotional) husband and when that MC wanted to leave he was emotionally blackmailed by everyone around him to stay by ML when ML changed and was sorry and MC accepted good for you (you deserve a beating)... My blood pressure... more>> was uhnnnnnn... I left the story immediately but it still leaves a bad taste in my mouth about the sort of message people are sending... <<less

I didn’t even realize I was already at the latest update! This was a very satisfying read for me. Especially all those face-slapping scenes! This has a very-no, a great revenge plot! Not to mention this was plotted by a the Female MC alone. Although I love the story of strong knights saving the ladies in dire needs despite of their efforts of being independent. The story focuses on an adult independent women that is also a mother of two.

This may not be the usual heart throbbing romantic stories that... more>> I usually read but it defiantly made me laugh and jump excitedly in satisfaction for the consequences that was delivered for those who wronged Fang JunRong.

after FL's divorce, basically the story became bland and boring with face slapping minor characters proclaimed as villains

[collapse]

If you have something else to pass the time then use that, this novel becomes from a mediocre novel of 3 stars to a disappointing novel of 2 stars in the late chapters.

Spoiler

P.S.: That son of hers is so OOC like it makes me feel that way because of how the author has written the novel with the feeling of plot armor, true love after one month 8.8... It would have been okay if BBQ son would be redeemed for the reason that he was enchanted by the FL's necklace or something but nope. The FL's ex-husband is really a shitty person with no morals as described by the author. Beware, in this novel, the characters show their half-brains and 30% morals.

In short, I don't recommend it. Good night. <<less

This is honestly one of my favorite books. It's basically al face-slapping, so if that's not your thing, I suggest moving on quickly, because you will not like it. I will admit that I initially came for the romance, which I soon found was practically non-existent. However, I stayed for the interesting plot, and haven't regretted it yet.

Stories like these are actually quite fulfilling to read when it's not centered on romance. The ML haven't even been introduced yet, and her priority is her daughter. This isn't a transmigration story, it's a redo. The villainess was sent back in time before her downfall.

Even her "cheat" isn't like annoying so. She's smart with it and that's actually interesting to read.

**ALSO I FORGOT TO ADD: the revenge is more of "success is the best revenge, let karma do its work"

I love this story. Its such a fun take on the Hero & Villian reversal trope. Our protagonist is the stepmother who got $&#@% over by her own idiot family (when they latched onto a young beautiful white lotus cinderella character, and used that character's "innate goodness" to justify their own selfish plans).

In one corner: the Protagonist, a no-nonsense adult buisness woman who sliped back in time to get revenge and leave everyone broke & broken hearted. No men. No holds barred.

In the other corner: the "pure" young orphan girl,... more>> risen to riches, who is going to collect a harem of powerful men, all of whom will do some very imoral things at the sight of her tears... only she seems to be loosing her harem at an alarming rate.

my favorite scene is

when the WL takes home the gangster character and hides him under her bed instead of taking him to the hospital. The MC literally just gets to watch that disaster unfold bc without a "golden finger" OF COURSE thats a s*upid idea and the BULLET WOUND is going to get infected. What idiot (outside a tv drama) hides a man with a bleeding bullet wound under their bed and hopes a little salve from the first aid kit does the trick?

The MTL starts out very good but towards the end there are so many chunks missing and repeated passages its nearly imposible.

The translation is of a much higher quality than the MTL, but the chapters are chopped. Be aware that 4 translated chapters is only equal abt 1 actual chapter. Its going no where fast <<less

And that there are not many moments between the ML and MC, at first I thought that the ML would stay with the daughter but it seems that the writer changed her mind, or it was just me, due to the age difference between the two, but this makes it even more special, since many things are skipped that in traditional china would not be possible

In short, the first chapters are good, and the ML as his second daughter were unnecessary, I would say.

At first, this novel seems promising with a mature female lead who's reborn and is ready to slap all those who abused her and take her daughter away to live a better life. She's no-nonsense and business oriented. It's the usual face slapping and getting revenge but then it just.... gets boring.

It's the same old scenario ad-nauseum with person trying to scheme, she finds out, she plots a hole for them, the scheme goes through, netizens make noise, they fall into the pit she dug, netizens hurrah, she smiles. Rinse... more>> and repeat for so many chapters interspersed with minor characters trying to attack and failing miserably or feeling favourable over her. There's not much spice and the villains are all extremely boring.

She doesn't grow much as a character and the only reason she was pitted in the last life is that
Spoiler

her all powerful Jade containing a medical space got stolen

Finally, basically no romance up to the point I read. I don't even know who's the ML (if he's even appeared). I don't mind a low or back burner romance but when everything else is kind of boring there needs to be something to spice it up?? Like at least in other rebirth novels the drama is so ridiculous you can roll your eyes but here it's just... boring.

Edited. Completed.

This is not a romance novel. The male lead (who I honestly feel the author wrote in mid way because she didn't like the available options and decided to pull one out of her ass) only confesses in the last 10 chapters and they only get together in the EPILOGUE. And even then there was this whole random side character plot (either in the end or epilogue stories) to completely derail the story like it just felt the author wanted to mock a common transmig trope but instead of writing a short story she just slapped it in. Like yeah sure the MC is a "mature woman's and can have a mature romance but it doesn't have to be boring??? I genuinely felt nothing for the couple. I feel so cheated waiting for romance that never came with low pay off.

A nice read, mediocre character development, but honestly no romance at all. I wonder why it's even tagged as romance when the ML was only hinted in the last few chapters.

The plot is basically just your typical dog blood drama equipped with MC's golden finger. It's a bit boring honestly with how OP MC was and how the villains just keep coming back at her with similar tactics like c*ckroaches.

The last few arcs are very messy. It's extremely incoherent with the main plot and previous arc. The first time I... more>> read

how there was suddenly a transmigrated soul who possessed her acquaintance who said that she wanted to make ML hers and that MC's story was basically a (nother) novel

it was so silly, I thought I read the wrong book. No cohesiveness at all in between arcs. It's like the author just crammed up every cliched popular plotlines to make the novel longer.

Overall, a nice light read to distract your mind, but don't put too much hope on it. <<less

MTL: ☆☆ and a half out of 5 (understandable enough, some confusing sentences)

MC is very smart.

Id rate it 4☆ on the first 50-60 chapters and the last 10 chapters.

However, as chapter goes on, it became draggy (its around 3.5). There's alot going on. Not mainly focusing with MC. So sometimes I feel bored. Not much chapters between Mother-Daughter. Its more on MC's expanding business.

Since I MTL, one downside of this is that there's a lot of names and its difficult to comprehend who they are exactly or how they are related. So I want to read (?) it again once translation is complete.

Spoiler

Ifeel like MC is like the real 'MC' of the novel (where she died) they were in but was hijacked by the FP (Jiang YaGe). That's why when MC died, no one had a good ending and the story collapse. Then it was rewritten.

And who said our ML is not OP. Lol. He might not appear strong but given that he manage to be on the same net worth as MC's daughter shows strength. ??

I think my problem with such novels is that the orig! Characters become unidimensional and extremely st*pid while the reborn MC becomes too OP.

This novel is fun upto a certain point (her walking out, the ex husband getting what he deserves, scum son suffering, her company doing well) but it starts to go downhill. The ex, the son and the o!FL are portrayed as irrationally foolish. Not just them, EVERYONE but MC and a handful of others are fools. A lot of the "conflict" is just keyboard warriors doing their... more>> thing or low IQ antagonists muahaha-ing till they're not. It gets tiring to read and I kept hoping the author would just wrap it up quickly.

Age gaps in relationships don't bother me and I actually like her ML but there's very little romance. The focus is more on her being almighty and getting rich.

It's great in the beginning. Unrepentantly biased and with an unrepentantly OP protagonist, but fresh and fun. And then the main plot finishes, but the story goes on and on, dragging each of the many original villains one by one, only to crush them with the unmatched power, money and influence she had already gotten while the first arc was going on.

It would have been five stars if it ended sooner. It would have been three stars or even less if it hadn't been so blatantly, "I am Woman, hear... more>> me roar!" That's such a novelty in these fics. This fic is about our MC. If there is an ML, he is irrelevant to the story. There is none of the, powerful women are only powerful because of the (hidden/secret) backing and 'indulging' of more powerful men. No, our heroine is powerful solely in her own right. <<less

Another one of those reincarnated into a villainess power-fantasy story, except this time it is the MIL herself that's reincarnated back. It's a pretty simple face slapping power fantasy, with her extricating herself from people who wronged her in the past, but until this point in the story, it seems like she has succeeded in her main goals and I'm not sure if there is any point in extending the story, most likely it will just be extra humiliation and revenge p*rn for the baddies.

That said there are some weird... more>> points on this story, the most glaring being the jade bracelet that introduces random wuxia element out of seemingly nowhere. I guess the reincarnation/time travel itself is already pretty wuxia, but is there really any point in the added plot element? She also seems quite willing to abandon her son in the new timeline, I get that the son did not make much effort in protecting his mom and sister in the first playthrough, but the absolute nonchalance to her own biological son seems weird as she never made any effort in trying to communicate with him on her return. She also adopted a struggling side character, but aside from some verbal scuffle with her husband nothing seems to come out of it and the child is just left to the side line with a few words here and there to remind the audience she exists.

Overall nothing really bad, but is definitely nothing more than a light read with plot that is not very heavily thought out. <<less
