Lin Qing He transmigrated into the novel and became one of its cannon fodder. The novel’s background is non-viable-1960s, time of want to eat but nothing to eat and want to wear, nothing to wear. Although the lack of supplies and life was monotonous, this wasn’t what she was concerned about because she got a small personal interspatial space, which is stuffed with supplies, so temporarily no worries about basic needs.

What she is worried about, if she remembers correctly, her three so-called sons will become big villains in the future, and their upright and cold dad will end up in an indestructible end.

Lin Qing He looked at the three future villain sons, eldest who was only five years old, the second child was only three years old, and the third child was only one year old, and decided to give them half a big white bun first…

Seeing so many high ratings, I came here with high hopes especially since the genre comes close to 'Bai Fu Mei in the 70ties' which I highly appreciated. This one however, let me down from the first chapter and boy, this ride is a downward spiral.

The story begins with a short premonition-esque dream that sets the FL up to go off by 4 long chapters of recounting shopping receipts and literally every seller looking at her like a weirdo.

Bad writing shows its ugly rear right off from the first chapter... more>> (which is split into 4-5 in translation) of how MC going wholesale shopping.
The character was prepping like she knew what kind of set up exactly she'd be thrown into despite only getting a vague glimpse.

Regardless, she preps so shoddily short term, it hurts. Knowledge is power if she'd only pack a few more books on DYI, farming, economics, anything, really. Or maybe something of monetary exchange value... But no, just daily necessities and foodstuffs.

After chewing through that dry ass intro, she transmigrates to the 60ties in a book with magical inventory and prior knowledge of all happenings (God, how I frigging hate this kind of super hack, she knows the future AND she has a magical storage space).

Her first interaction with her children is... by condescendingly belittling them while they're looking up at her, neglected and starving caused by no other than the person she was possessing.

After 200+ chapters worth of constant contradictions; the author's writing reminds me of a squirrel during winter rationing, all these buried ideas only to end up with a handful at the end.

I'll probably revisit this once it's fully translated but man, my hopes for it are at an all time low. <<less

I read it and I finished it. I was enjoying the story, but I felt the ending was too rushed. It was like a novel, Transmigrator meets Reincarnator. The beginning and along the story was already good and well-paced. But the abrupt ending, disappointed you. Let me tell you why.

Spoiler

the MC's personality. She was kind of tolerable in the beginning, but in the middle, I kind of so done with her. She was so arrogant and looked down on anyone who was not good to her. Like I get it they're bad, how can you expect that they're good when they obviously didn't have a good education, born with poverty, and you expected they're not overwhelmed with greed or ambition to be well off too? Like it's kind of normal for their relatives to think like that. The MC acted as if the world needs to be good to her because she was more "advanced" than others and expect them blindly to follow her? Like her confidence really getting on my nerves. Yeah, I felt so bad for the cannon fodders there. Honestly, even other people agree with her view, I completely disagree. And I know how Asian have this culture that "white" and "fair" skin is beautiful, but I don't get how the author always wrote "dark as coal", to someone who gets sunburn when they're training plenty of times-yeah, so many times-like how the MC commented how her first son went to the military and came back home every time. It really irked my feeling. And the ending. Was so disappointing. Or at least to me it was such a shame if they could give it more chapters with their children's as the main point of view.

[collapse]

why? The story would be better if

Spoiler

the author could focus on how their sons' interact with other relationships, like the original ML and FL or their love lives! Their relationship! Less of those dog blood bickering with their nieces and nephews, more detail about their updated business, less story focus on those side characters. Like even their sons had this so minor role! I was so mad! They're like the key of this story could keep going and become more interesting, but no. The author really put whole 10-20 chapters for this niece/nephew and branches and more branches of the family. Like who cares? Bish.

yeah that's why I give it a 3. <<less

Chapter 450

This novel is really good, especially if you like a laid-back slice of life, rags to riches kind of story. The only thing that ticks me off is:

Spoiler

The matter of pregnancy, or more specifically, how Lin Qing He is "unable" to get pregnant because of how the original got a ligation after giving birth to three sons.

Why is Zhou Qing Bai so obsessed with having a daughter? Why does Lin Qing He have to face the consequences of the original's actions and feel guilty because of something that isn't her fault?

Zhou Qing Bai, you had your chance when you retired from the military and finally had the time to be together with your family. Can you only spoil and care for a child if it's a girl? Can you only spare a little of your oh so precious time and attention if the child isn't a son but a daughter?

Your youngest son was still a toddler, if not a baby, when you retired, but did you pay attention to him at all? It seems like you let your three sons roam freely to do whatever they wanted outside without worrying about them at all, leaving all aspects of their care to Lin Qing He.

In comparison, when the fortune teller said that Lin Qing He will get pregnant with a girl in the future, Zhou Qing Bai who used to be content to work in the dumpling shop immediately wanted to open a more profitable shop and started buying land everywhere for his then nonexistent daughter's dowry.

Zhou Qing Bai when his youngest son wanted to start a factory: I won't give him any start-up funds so he doesn't ruin the money that will be left for his *still nonexistent* daughter. He can find the money for it himself.

Maybe the author wanted Zhou Qing Bai to be the perfect man who values women—pampering his wife and going along with her "unyielding temper" and wanting a daughter when many couples prefer sons over daughters, but he's disregarding Lin Qing He's opinions in order get what he wants!

I can't count how many times Lin Qing He has disagreed or expressed unwillingness/discomfort over the topic, swinging between "I really don't want to" and "I'll do it because I love him" over and over again because of Zhou Qing Bai's relentless pushing. It really disgusts me.

Chapter 675

Spoiler

The hypocrisy reaches sky-shattering heights! The cycle of bad dads continues! Zhou Kai has turned into Zhou Qing Bai 2.0 *ugly sobbing*

I sh*t you not, quoted directly from chapter 673: "Daughter ah." Desire expressed through Zhou Kai's eyes. He had told Weng Mei Jia that he wanted a daughter in the future. Weng Mei Jia had said, what if it is a son? What else could Zhou Kai do? If it's a son, he would also raise him. But he would definitely not be treated like a daughter. Just roll away by yourself.

Seriously? Seriously? Zhou Qing Bai treated his sons like air and left all aspects of their care for Lin Qing He to shoulder alone. Only after their daughter was born did he turn into a dedicated house husband who couldn't bear to leave his daughter's side for a second.

If Zhou Kai and Weng Mei Jia's future kid turned out to be a girl, then good for them! Zhou Kai gets a cute, caring, pretty, lovable little bun to shower with love while Weng Mei Jia can sit around with nothing to do.

.... But what if it's a boy?

Is Zhou Kai going to leave his son's care to Weng Mei Jia alone? Well, his parents and grandparents can help raise him so it's probably okay, right? Oh, I forgot! You can cross out Zhou Qing Bai's name from the list because only girls deserve love and care from their dad 🥺🥺😝🥰

I'm pretty sure the author is trying to make Zhou Qing Bai and Zhou Kai "feminist" and "not like other guys" but in reality they're sexist because they think boys are stronger and can take care of themselves while girls need to be spoiled and given everything with a silver spoon.

I'm still holding a grudge over Zhou Qing Bai leaving the original Lin Qing He to raise three boys alone, plus letting her squander money while the boys don't even get to have decent food and clothing. The entire time, Zhou Qing Bai never cared enough to intervene.

I am mad because the author dont use all available character for the story. like the dog barely have any lines mentioned until ch 173. and the doggo never be any use at all to the MC and family. So, why bother introducing the dog in the first place???
and also apparently ML hobby is swimming and just introduced on ch 173 and he never swim on any lines before (LOL). The author just make it up so MC and ML can see someone else cheating (affair) that night.

After 30 chapters, I'd say that this is just a bit too boring for me. What I don't like the most is the focus on food.

WOW this is such a good light read. In 2 days 310ch.

Like the pace of the novel and the characters, very real.

The most that I like is that is has a small supernatural point, but its used just enough to give it a good flavour. And its more based on relationships and so on. The intro is really interesting that she was aware of a transmigrating chance

Good Read for sure

Writer and Translator, Hats down to you Good job well done ❤️

The past reviews has pretty much described this novel although it's a pure Slice of Life it's entertaining but I have to say that the names are really confusing (too many n sister-in law, n brother-in law, n brother, n sister,..), the translator has done a good job to help the readers recognize who is who but if you try to read the MTL it's a total mess. I doing my best to right now to keep going but I might reduce the rating later because of this.

Edit:

Got used to... more>> the names after some time. The story still attracts me so no demotion :)

Edit2:

Since 2012 I started reading WNs, it's rare for me to finish one this long as I usually get bored after 300 of 400 chapters. I never thought I'll actually read this 701 slice of life novel to the end but I did it without skipping a chapter. I'm thankful to the reviewers before me or I might have missed this one. There is few things that I found annoying but it's regretful that author rushed the ending in a few summary chapters. I wanted to read more about this family... it's a pity... <<less

Pretty interesting read with a lady being transported to a shit, yet not so distant past in rural China in the 70s, where China is on the cusps of opening up their economy after a couple of disastrous decades. Lady is thrown in as a housewife in a poor rural area, but armed with knowledge of the future development to take advantage of the economic boom.

The 'world' she's transported to is supposedly a period drama, but the transportation mechanism, the 'special power' and the backstory of the world she's transported... more>> can be safely ignored since the author never really gave any attention to it and barely touches on it once or twice over the course of the story. ML is transported to the body of an attractive but lazy rural lady with 3 child, a husband returning from military service and somewhat overbearing, but not comically so family in laws. She behaves pretty logically for someone from the modern era, not immediately swooning over the husband she got saddled with, initially treating him mostly as a fuccbuddy and piggy bank first as one would with a stranger unwillingly thrust upon you. Her relationships are mostly pleasant to read, being reasonably pleasant to people being nice to her and biting back against the others that are being dicks. Her interactions with the child she's saddled with is also reasonably logical and entertaining, with her treating them pretty fairly as step parent of sorts, opening up paths to them impossible otherwise for farmers child in the middle of nowhere could afford. The children are also hilariously aware that while they are brought up with care, they are pretty much second to her number one fuccbuddy. The husband himself is both pretty remarkable and bland at the same time, having the physicality and intelligence of batman and the personality of a body pillow, hence why their relationship seeming more like fucbuddies than lovers, but eh no one's perfect.

Overall it's a pretty relaxing read with no overt dramas just for the sake of drama, if there's anything uncomfortable it probably is just the overall disrespect for women in those times, from the overly dramatized falling out of the village who*e the MC has no relations with to the expectation of the baby factory status of women, while historically appropriate it's not an easy read for someone from the modern era. <<less

I finished almost 300 chapters in just 2 days.

So it is either good or there is something wrong with me. Probably both.

It is true that there is some redundancy but, for someone like me who has already read a fair share of people who Isekai'd as cannon fodder with a cheat and vow to just live comfortably but still end up doing tiring things like saving the world, for example, this is a very refreshing story.

... more>> She has a simple goal, raising her children properly. It is good enough and realistic.

The best part for me is that there is good world-building. I know that is just base on China in the past but I like it when authors are very detailed about the era, the surroundings, and the current cultural trends in the story because it makes it easier for me to imagine the scenes more vividly.

Even the side-characters are great. They have their own personality, backgrounds, hopes, beliefs, and dreams. When they do mistakes, it's either they learn for the better or they get worse. Either is acceptable for me. At least they are not one-dimensional characters who are just there to make the main characters look better.

Although there were a lot of repetitive events I didn't find it exhausting. It narrates the normal life of a family who lives in the countryside so don't expect some fight scenes, kidnappings, taking down corrupt people or any narratives that are oversold in Mexican telenovelas or k-dramas.

It is just a chill story.

Exactly what I was looking for. <<less

Spoiler

This novel is very laid back and chill. I like that she's taking care of the children and using a good parenting style (or maybe just for me, cuz I didn't experience it) and her husband is very hard working (slightly more realistic than overbearing ceo's hihi). I was quite angry with her in law's, (although their opinions actually made sense, the original character was really bad before MC transmigrated) she s**ked it up and turned their opinions upside down. All in all, This is heart warming, and with this novel we can actually have a sneek peak with what was happening in the past. (And the hints of scenario of what the elderlys are boasting about 'their time'.)

Definitely recommended for people who like slice of life stories with non-super OP MC. And the time progression goes quicker the further in the story you go, but it's still mostly a "daily life" kind of story.

Although the MC does have one cheat with her hammer space, all it does is hold a limited amount of items and keeps them in stasis. And I appreciate how she utilizes it but doesn't make it her sole reliance of survival. She does actually do the work to get her advantages and she... more>> never inexplicably goes beyond her means/abilities. I also appreciate how she doesn't do anything for the sake of the original owner (she receives the original's memories but there are no weird revenge plot), so everything she does is for her own priorities.

The setting follows the summary but for more details...

Spoiler

A modern-day, recently graduated, adult woman starts having dreams about a kid calling her mom and asking her to feed him. She notices how malnourished the kid is and fears that she's about to be sent into a kind of desolate place, especially once she finds out she suddenly has a secret space. So, she takes out her savings and loads up on things she believes she'll need to survive in an apocalyptic era but ends up being transmigrated before she's able to get everything. Soon she realizes that she's in a novel set during '60s rural China and in a character who turns out to be the mother of the novel's three villains.

The father/ML is a soldier who actually left the original the morning after their wedding and is rarely home, so the original and ML don't really know each other. Theirs was an arranged marriage, with the original only wanting to marry bc she believed the ML will become an officer, and the ML marrying because it was expected of him. They stayed married because the original got pregnant on her wedding night and forced the ML's family to concede to her demands (living separately from the main family) and ML still sends money back to her (he makes a lot compared to others because he's a soldier). But the original barely takes care of her kids and is more into herself and later (in the novel) complications come when ML is honorably discharged early due to a serious injury, which would lead to a lot of conflict with the original, for which the original abandons her family, causing a scar on the sons, causing them to become villains. And the whole family suffer tragic deaths.

MC transmigrates just before the ML is supposed to be discharged and while trying to find her bearings, she starts taking care of the kids and feels sympathy for their novel's future. She finds that the original has a pretty decent life so decides to stay put. Before the ML arrives, the MC comes to a conclusion of keeping her distance with the ML, taking care of the kids until they're grown, and then parting with the family and making it on her own (she starts studying to get into college because she knows when the first exams are going to be reinstated and also starts making connections in the city and starts collecting outlawed items that will become valuable in the future).

Of course that changes when she and the ML fall in love. She still plans to go to college, but now wants the ML to follow her to the city and is educating her sons so they'll aim for college as well.

[collapse]

I like the kids and ML too. The ML is the stoic/quiet type (not cold tho!) and is very doting and filial and tends to follow what his wife says. However, the ML's character takes a bit of time to get fleshed out (sometimes, it feels like he's just there to be there in the beginning), but the kids have a lot of character from the get-go and are enjoyable to read about.

Another thing I like is how well developed the side characters are. There are a lot of people in the ML's family, so I'm surprised that most are able to be unique enough that I can still recognize their names without confusing people. The side characters have their own stories and those don't always center around the MC/ML either. I also like how the author sets up points and allows them to be addressed or return much later in the story. There's also a lot of cooking in this, for those who like that.

It's an easy and pretty fast read (it took me a couple of days to catch up binge-reading). The translations are well-done (some minor mistakes here and there but nothing that should detract from one's reading experience--the author, funnily enough, also makes mistakes that the translator has to correct). The translator also gives a lot of references, which is a big plus for me, and the releases are so swift, which is another big plus. So a big thank you to Maggie for all the hard work! <<less

Advice: Once you read all the translated chapters, hit up the spoilers forum. This way, if you decide to MTL. You can better understand what's going on in the story.

I loved this story most when they were in the countryside and family interactions and food were the focus lol. I completely understand people's obsession with eating well when there's nothing else to do---thanks COVID-19. You could really feel the FL's care for her family, the ML's struggle to express his love and devotion to FL, and the growth of other... more>> characters. Even minor characters like 2nd Brother-in-law felt real and complex. That being said, it's a wonderful and well-paced story throughout 700 chapters. Many characters in the novel are very relatable. People who are annoying aren't necessarily villains---some get their comeuppance, some just continue living their lives, and some even change. I appreciated that a lot, actually.

The most fantastical character is the FL. I wondered how she had so much knowledge of different industries and developments, but I let that go to enjoy the story. I believed in her character because of how she seemed resigned to life at the very beginning of the novel---by nature, she's a survivor who makes the best of whatever her situation. The development of her immediate family and her investment in them was clearly conveyed and understandable. What I'm saying is, the characters' development is, surprisingly, believable in this "transmigrated into a novel" family-centered novel.

A truly satisfying slice of life piece. Don't read if you prefer assassins, magical doctors, highly talented and perfect OTP, nobles, or wicked face-slapping lol. Conflict in this story are not prolonged or dramatic because people have to live. <<less

Excellent slice of life novel! There are no super dog-like shameless family as though they killed their ancestors. MC has her own convictions and not a wishy washy attitude. There are no super cheats where she would be an instant millionaire since in the old china times, the government would not allow speculation in the market. This is also due to the type of government and their policy though this is not explicitly said. We see old customs of families, way of life and culture. This novel however is not... more>> for those who seek super fast pacing nor those who seek face slapping+reaction in every chapter. <<less

This is my second time reading this but actually this time only I persisted reading until the end. During my first read I really enjoyed the farming arc but it made me loose interest in the middle of the city arc. Not completing this novel had always been a regret of mine so this time I persisted and I'm glad that I did.

I really love the female lead in this novel. She's not the typical op Mary sue nor she is a pushover. I love the way she handles the... more>> relationships between her in-laws. But the thing that I love the most is her relationship with her sons. It's so endearing to see how she feed the cubs and motivates them to study and all. Their relationship was so pure and heart warming. One of the best I've ever read. Though the FL seems to only care about her and her family's happiness, she never hesitates to help people the good people around her.

Spoiler

like her sister-in-law and her family, third brother Lin, all the nieces and nephews. It made me so happy to read about father Zhou and mother Zhou enjoying their city life. But what I love the most is that her helping the second brother-in-law and that liu ni's child in the later chapters. It made me genuinely smile when old Zhou family and fl's third brother and Zhou Dong thriving because of the fl.

[collapse]

The cubs (sons)

I can't say how much I enjoyed the growth process of them from potential villains to the successful individuals they became later. Their interactions with their mom is heartwarming and realistic. All three of them have distinct personalities and they have a clear presence in the story. It made me want to tear up when they all grew up and started having their own families. That made me feel like an old mother watching their kids grow up.
Spoiler

I do love the daughter at the end but I think that she should have been born earlier in the farming arc so she could grow up with her brothers and save all that hassle of the ml.

[collapse]

I can't say that I hate the ml. He was supportive of the FL albeit feeling a little inferior at times. I love how he always trusted the FL but other than that there's nothing much to like about him.
Spoiler

I hate how he treats his sons and if the og FL was at fault for the sons becoming villains then I feel like he's also a major reason. Because he's indifferent to them. I don't whether it's due to that time or since the sons had grown up so he should act "tough" with his sons but to me it's pure indifference. It was quite good during the farming arc, though he did not interfere much with the kids education he at least had thoughts about their wellbeing and it seemed reasonable. But I hate it in the city arc. I don't know whether it's because of the sons have grown up and all but it infuriated me when he started accumulating all those properties for the unborn daughter saying that the sons doesn't need them and should suffer to earn. And boy don't get me started with his obsession of giving birth to a daughter. It was simply outrageous and though his doting towards his daughter was heartwarming it made me mad at how he treated his sons.

[collapse]

All in all this novel was a wonderful slice of life and I cried at the ending because it felt like parting away from people you've known for ages. I highly recommend this for anyone who loves transmigrating into the economic reformation era because this one is really one of the best out there. <<less

Decent. This is less than a novel, more than a journal of sorts. There is nothing overly dramatic in this story. The MC had been given a space and knowledge, but these are just shortcuts to explain her determination to get wealthy. The author could have easily written the story without it, and one can sense the author had felt regret incorporating the fantastical aspects because the entire story is about the MC's near daily life. Nearly every chapter was about food or gossipy family incidents. Nothing as dramatic as... more>> world changing.
