Trapped in a Typical Idol Drama

Ye Xi crossed over into a typical idol romance novel as the villainess.

For the sake of her safety, she decided to distance herself from the male and female protagonists while silently observing their real-life version of a school idol drama. Everyday, she would repeatedly ridicule the main protagonists in her thoughts, along with their group of friends and fans.

It’s not surprising, however, that the male protagonist’s special ability is to hear the voices of other people’s thoughts. So he listened to all kinds of curses that Ye Xi secretly harbored and recorded them one by one.

Expressionless Male Protagonist: the future is long, your debts will slowly be collected.

Ye Xi covers her ears: I’m not listening, not listening, *recites Wang Ba’s Sutras*

Dropping this because it is testing my patience with how terribly the story is written. It is so juvenile with many brainless characters and terrible plot development.

I love cliche highschool stories but this isn't it.

I am okay with FL's stoic personality. But I don't like how the story progressed. Basically its just terrible.

... more>> At chapter 40+ I went "what the sh*t am I reading?" When things just don't make sense.

Some scenes that were weird:

School Prince aka ML pretends to kiss FL in a school library. A mob forms to harass her. A literal mob and no one cares to help her except for her only friend. She gives a passionate speech that supposedly is recorded and ML sees it and feels something in his heart. Or the dramatic ML goes to a bar and helps FL save her friend from drunken harassment. Aren't they only 17-18??? How did this happen? Why did the friend go to the bar and get drunk? No explainations.

FL skips class to go gaming. It is a supposed aristocratic school and yet security is so lax???

So many more random scenes put together haphazardly with terrible internal monologue. <<less

Tbh, as much as I would love to look for a lot of positive things regarding this novel, there are so many loopholes I couldn't help but get bothered.

Although it is your typical transmigration story, I feel like everything progressed way too fast. And I mean fast to the point that I'm too confused. The plot, the characters, and the comedy all seemed quite half heartedly done. Especially the plot. It seems to have deviated too much from a normal school routine life split into many random situations. I can't... more>> help but wonder what was the purpose of really staying in the school throughout the novel. At first I thought it'll focus on MC's relationships with the characters but nope! It was as if MC was literally just passerby in the characters life and making up different scenarios in her mind to satisfy her desire of being 'normal'. Although she proclaims that she's an aunt and gave a background story for herself, it didn't seem to fit her character in the story at all.

As for the characters, the only character development I saw was literally cannon fodder A - the villainess. The rest, they were either flat or nonsensical. Although the humour gets exaggerated to the point cliche situations are brought up, but it didn't really garner my interest much.

So all in all, although I would like to give this story a 2 star because of the many loopholes I found + the abrupt ending, I'll give it a three as thanks for the people who gave this story a 5 star that made me wanna read it. <<less

This novel started out so good.

In the beginning when I read F4 I automatically thought of the anime "Hana Yori Dango" and I f*cking HATE that anime! It was so damn depressing and the ending was shit. Anyways.... I continued reading and got so into the novel. It has so many different elements when compared to other novels since the ML can read everyone's thoughts, the FL can talk to the author of the book she transmigrates into and characters that you wouldnt expect, actually die.

The romantic relationship between the... more>> MC and ML is practically nonexistent. All through the novel I can get that the ML is interested in her and slowly falls for the FL but when the hell did the FL fall for the ML??? What did I miss??? I feel like all throughout the novel, the FL just thought of the ML as a friend but then suddenly u get to the end where the FL is like, I live you even if you dont love me.... EXCUSE ME! WHAT DID I MISS????? I felt no vibes from the FL anywhere that I felt like, "Oooohhhh she kinda likes him".

Also the ending is so incomplete. I still cant figure out what just happened. There was so much potential but then everything just goes downhill. A waste of time tbh... <<less

I've read over half of the novel before deciding to stop... the beginning was promising, but FL is just too s*upid? naive? set in her ways?

Anyway, she doesn't act like a grown up in a teenage body - constantly running off to play games, eating junk food, etc while setting higher standards for everyone else...

I personally think that the plot itself is pretty interesting, but the plot moves along way too fast, and there are a lot of places that logic doesn’t apply to. The story itself is a bit cliche but there are some original parts that only appears in this story (at least doesn’t appear in other stories much) I also like the MC, since she doesn’t have “little” misunderstandings like other stories.
Even so, I feel like it’s very a bit confusing, and the story line runs along really quickly, the... more>> MC also claims to be a “aunt”, but she thinks just like a teen, maybe a mature teen who has chuunibyou. I can’t comment on the translation quality, since I read the untranslated version. This isn’t really my cup of tea, so I stopped reading the novel when I felt like it was too far from what I like to read. This is just my opinion, feel free to disagree. Sorry for the bad English. <<less

Author thinks the plot and setting of the novel gives them the freedom to pull random events, plot details, and out-of-character actions out of thin air without explanation. Example:

Spoiler

There is randomly a super big sports day that everyone in the school takes really, really seriously and everyone hates the FL for trying to get involved because they think she will ruin their chances of winning. It turns out that their school had a deep rivalry with another school and the other school always wins. The FL chooses to give up participating in the 1k race or whatever because she "realises" that the body she is in now is not the same as the one she had before... -_- like serious?! It's taken her THAT LONG to realise? Cue training montage and a bunch of other random stuff. Finally, on the day of the event, the FL's school wins the 1k relay, and it turns out that instead of their school always losing it was only this event they ever lost in.

... see what I mean? To put none too fine a point on it, it's like the author was writing when they suddenly thought "Oh hey, that seems like a good idea, lemme put it in! Right now! With no foreshadowing or development!". Repeatedly.

The plot detracts from the story so much that I just stopped reading. There's nothing fun in reading about a bunch of completely random events that are linked together by... well, nothing.

In short: interesting premise, FL had a pretty funny outlook at the beginning. Felt like it was trying to go To Be a Power in the Shadows!, but then... it failed. Miserably. <<less

It was hard trying to finish reading the novel. The start was fairly interesting but the development s**ked. Especially the ending felt rushed to be completed. There is no romance between the MC and the ML at all! And the author seemed confused about his/her own work.

I hate how Wei Shenglan thinks MC owes him when it's him who owes her for causing trouble for her. How he makes the misunderstandings worse by saying MC is his girlfriend. I can't keep reading this, if Wei Shenglan is going to be the ml.

Terrible rating is mainly due to MC. Despite many loopholes, the story was passable. But the MC was too infuriating. She did not adapt to her new life even towards the end of the story. It was understandable when she questioned and made fun of the novel in the initial chapters. But after spending so much time with these people and after her so called acceptance of her reality, she still separated herself from the world. For someone who's old and 'matured', she acted more like a toddler than others.... more>> The worst part was

The novel wasn't amazing and the romance did not really stir up the feels. The whole novel progressed weirdly and ended abruptly. At first I was attracted to the premise but by the end it went to a different direction that didn't really make sense. Don't expect too much, read if you have nothing else to read. The story was kind of bland and didn't leave a lasting good impression on me even though I generally have a lot of tolerance for bad novels. I just find myself disappointed and... more>> questioning what did I just read. I don't think its worth even revisiting, I would pass on this one.

3/5 stars was just a lenient score, it would have been a lot lower.

This is really funny. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because I ship Ye Xi with An Mundi and it doesn't look like that will happen. The way the MC and author communicate doesn't feel wrong like it does in some stories when the 4th wall is broken, instead it makes me want more. The misunderstandings in it aren't cringy either, they're really funny.

I read the raws and even though the Google translation was really bad, I found it really enjoyable.

The storyline is full of potential, but sadly it is indeed cut short and I wish some events made more sense, or at least the reactions of the characters.... more>>

Ex:After the F4 guy and big villaines die I was surprised by the lack of in depth explanation of the lead' s feelings, as well as the global impact on the novel.

The FL is very likeable, but also very dense. That's why the end for the main couple seems abrupt and not thoroughly explained to me.

Spoiler

Ok she did reflect on her past interactions with the ML and concluded she liked him, but before that we never really saw her being flustered by him

Anyway, I think the story is nice, and the translation work of the official team is very good. Also pls remember that my review isn't fully objective as I read the raws via google translate.

I actually MTL'd the entire story. It's a very fresh, cute and silly type of novel, however I'm not sure if it's completed. The ending was a bit abrupt. If you are looking for logic in story, you won't find it, but if you looking for some comedy, this is a good novel to read. I hope that author can go back and tie up loose ends one day.

I should've believed the title. Honestly, I thought she was transmigrated into a novel with typical idol drama but will still act as mature just like her real age, but I didn't expect that she instead became part of that clichés. I mean, she knew how cliché the plot of the original novel is and yet unknowingly, she's also cliché and all. I don't know if I'm able to show my thoughts but whatever. I just want to say that I really want to drop this at chapter 20 something... more>> but I'm still hoping that something will change. Perhaps if I happen to saw this 2 or so years ago when I just started reading transmigration novels, I'll read this. But it's just too cliché and boring for me now. Especially the FL! I'm so disappointed. At first she was calm and composed. She's thinking and acting like the mature adult she really was but as the story progresses, her thoughts are becoming more and more naive— it's fine if it's like that at the beginning. After all, naive and funny protagonist is fine too, but she was mature at the beginning! I feel like her character has changed its direction. She should be calmer and more composed than those high schoolers but she's being lead on by them somehow— especially by the male lead. I'm really, really disappointed by the FL.

Anyway, if you want to read this, just remember the title. Because it's really typical. The characters, the setting and the plot are really typical and cliché. Not my cup of tea anymore. I'm so done with this type of story. <<less

I'm still confused if the author was a woman or a man, this confusing use of pronouns also applied to the leads and supporting characters, but overall the translation is OK.

The first half is somewhat boring and FL reactions are too mild, until the plot twist. There has it's funny moments but not many fluffy moments, think of it as a slowburn in FL side. Not much character development as there was no depth to begin with. Basically a good story to kill time but nothing else.

Translation is ok with errors on he/she pronouns, typos, names etc.

Characters especially the female lead Ye Xi was funny and quirky. But somehow became s*upid. All throughout the story, she looked down on the other characters and usually stress out the fact that she’s older than them and always calling them children or child in her mind. So when she died she was at most 30? And she was quite successful in her career with her own strong persona. So why then during a life and death thing would she... more>> think of them being mu*derers when what they’re doing is running for their lives and ensuring that they live. Even if they kill the traffickers and mu*derers, they will not be held accountable. So it’s really idiotic of her not to agree with Nanggong Hai when he proposed to eliminate those that fell in the trap in the woods/forest. When they only injured them, they left behind people who will continue to hunt them to be killed. Which of course they did. When they met the boss in their camp, they still continued with their idiotic acts of not killing them.
She’s all that and claiming that she came from the real world etc and yet failed to grasp the concept of being merciful to your enemies is being cruel to yourself and grasses must be taken out with their roots to prevent them from rising again after the spring breeze. So her behavior in this life and death climax was truly idiotic and doesn’t make sense. Xiuxiu’s naive thoughts are acceptable because she’s around 17-18 years old, and a little rich princess who’s not yet entered the society unlike her.

all the other characters conform with the setting, only the female lead is disgusting due to her idiocy. <<less

The story progressed too fast and illogically in some sense especially in the emotion area. If this was not a romance story with her not ending up with anyone then it would have been better and would have gotten a higher rating from me.
From what I read and my opinion, there was little to none romance build up between the MC and the "ML". It was pretty much toward the end did we get a definitive sense on who the true ML is. There's nothing wrong with no romance... more>> the in beginning and middle of the story, but since the romance start blandly revealing itself really quick toward the end of the story which felt really rush, unrealistic, and there wasn't even a "romantic aura" coming out from their interaction that proves that they love each other. Kudos to her when she "realized" her "feeling" toward him is more than a friend and she was decisive (this is what I like about her) enough to go out with him, but just bc u realized your feeling for him might not be as simple as "friends" it doesn't mean you love, simply it's because he's one of the few people that helps you. And I did not feel any so called "love" from the ML too besides the fact they do all the "couple" stuff which is cute but still feels fake and insincere since it doesn't show and make them more in loved with each other emotionally. (Maybe those action where supposed to show their love progress but I failed to catch on since it just feels more like "this is what we should do to make us look like a sweet couple in love" rather than "I'm happy since she's here with me etc.".
This rushed romance really left a bad taste in my mouth and I was actually expecting her to not end up with anyone.
Overall this is a really fast paced story where it have a lot of plot holes and is good for comedy. The lack of expression from the writing and explanation to link so and so together made me rate this a 3 (average, like this story is there but at the same time not there for me like this story). Tho I really do like this new (at least this is the first novel I read with this) concept on

I'm honestly surprised by the amount of mixed reviews– it was an easy 5 stars for me!

Some notable points before deciding to read this though;

  • Very funny, I was giggling over the MC's antics and wildly jumping thoughts the whole time, and I like how the issue of her transmigration was handled, and it even had a unique twist with her connection to her original world.
  • Kinda on the short side, but satisfactory. I couldn't get my hands on the extras but imo both the couples and side couples as well as the main cast all got enough screen time, and honestly I liked all of them, including the villains.
  • Slow but then fast-paced, but with the MC it was pretty much never a dull moment the whole time– though I did catch myself skipping through her monologue twice (out of like.. 20 other times, the others were fun to read so don't worry about it)
  • The CP are cute. Once, twice, thrice I misunderstood the ML and honestly they are so so cute together, especially towards the end.
  • Most people mentioned the MC's personality: Don't take the MC's IQ too seriously, I do agree with the criticism that she does contradict herself that she's old and "shouldn't be messing with children and is more mature" which could be annoying, but imo I didn't find her reactions and interactions all that hypocritical. They seemed natural to me, esp since over time you realise that she's a an unreliable narrator, however she also does have a bit of a protagonist halo (surprised?) But personally it ran well with the rest of the plot so I didn't mind it at all.
  • THE CLIMAX.. You're basically in a funny comedic cheerful happy-go-lucky, fluffy headspace as the CP begin to get closer.. And then BAM the author hits you with a brief thriller. Loved it. I was already beginning to entertain thoughts of something happening, and author did not disappoint. Very well handled.

  • There's only one major plot hole (?) or perhaps just sth that could've been addressed after the main story that does bug me a little, but only a little. MAJOR SPOILER:
    Spoiler

the original author of the novel-world's connection to communicate with the MC is cut off during a critical juncture, and after our heroes are safe we never hear from them again, left open-ended perhaps.

Overall I just really loved the MC and the rest of the main cast. Everyone is very lovable to me, and it was a fun read. As long as you frame your mind to consider that the world she is transmigrated in does not work on the same logic system as ours does since it's a novel-turned-world written by a slag author (aka turn off your brain), and if you like silly school love dramas with a spot of thriller, I think you'll enjoy it!
