This novel is great and amazing but see several people talking bad about this novel like the personagel and cold and unemotional does not interact with anyone always harms others etc. So annoying things that they didn't even read it completely and already take hasty selections because the MC is getting involved more deeply over time, especially after the 1300th chapter, he shows a little of his first life and that he was a human with emotions and that he repays the kindness of other normal people with ethics, but... more>> over time he changes until become almost completely unknown to the current and everything he experienced was planned by the will of heaven until his death was planned and why it was planned little by little will explain these questions <<less

Probably one of the best world building in a LN, not only is the Main Character a practical, ruthless, anti-hero with deep planning and plots, but he isn't the only one. Any of the people who have gotten to positions of power in this world, have had to use their head, and carefully and meticulously work their way up in this world. Nothing is ever as simple as it seems in this novel.

Now, the start of the novel has quite the cliché. The whole, goes back in time to a... more>> earlier state with all his knowledge. However, without spoiling anything, it IS explained later, and not with some off-hand explanation, but rather in-depth with some pretty major developments.

Even with the many advantages brought from his knowledge of events, it isn't a perfect knowledge of everything. He only had his own point of view of the events of his previous life, and it goes on to show that there are many undercurrents to the events that he experienced, but does not understand. An example

Spoiler

There was a war that happens, and the MC had experienced that war, but doesn't understand what caused it, or why it ended, only the stuff that was publicly announced. He wasn't a top tier expert in his past life, so he only has a surface level knowledge of events, and has to fill in the gaps himself

[collapse]

Now, a big point to address, this is unfinished. The Novel was banned in China, and the author has stopped writing it. However, that does not change my recommendation, with over 2000 chapters, there is a lot in this, and while it doesn't have a satisfying conclusion (yet). The story was getting close to wrapped up, so its not ending on a major cliffhanger, with the rate it was going, probably had a arc or two left. Whether or not it will be finished in the future is anybody's guess.

Even with the lack of a end, this is probably one of the best Novels I have read, with not just the MC, but everyone in the novel having their own schemes and plots. <<less

I started reading this because it's hyped all over the place. So far, it's incredibly disappointing. At its best, it reads as a bad fanfic of a good book. The framing is isekai + second chance. The first iteration of his life seems far more interesting than the current one. At its worst, it's just kind of boring. It keeps referencing back to his 500 years of experience, but in all that 500 years, he seems to have no regrets about personal connections. Even with his own brother, he doesn't... more>> regret their falling out. So he's a psychopath. That's fine though; I get why people like mu*der hobos. Really, the 500 year time repeat just seems like an excuse to dump all the loot in his lap. It's not luck if you went back in time with the lottery numbers memorized. <<less

Okay, it took 18-19 chapters for the story to get interesting, the author himself puts a note on that. Before that it was at most 3 stars, after about 4 stars. Although it's almost half of the first volume, which I think is nonsense.
But alas, I don't understand why the score is so high.
Spoiler

1- the guy has 500 years of experience, but he didn't understand things that even a monkey after so long would have understood.
2- he has his memories of Earth, but the first time he fell for their uncles' tricks, not to mention other people, who are extremely ordinary that with just a little intelligence would be blatantly obvious. It took him 500 years of xp to understand the schemes, his words included.
3- he has the memories of the Earth, so he's older than his age, I guess, adding the two, out of 500 years, over 35 years, but the first time, when he found out he wasn't a genius he didn't even react with the 15 years he was.
4- I've read reviews talking about the intelligence of the extras, and that there are few young masters, but despite all the novel's scrolling in less than 15 chapters, one has already appeared. Outside that the protagonist's own twin brother is dumb as a door.
5- the cultivation stones give an energy level, but he manages to go through all 4 small cultivation realms, each one with energy twice as much as the previous one, with the increase of his expenses in just one stone. I wouldn't be shocked if it quadrupled each time, because it uses something else that also wears out, although I would also accept it if it doubled, but instead, it doesn't even seem like that happened.
6- from the moment he entered the academy until he left, he extorted 53 stones weekly and earned 3 that were his, excluding 3 other people which varied, but it was a constant of 56. And he kept a weekly cost of 28, when he raised a small realm, it increased to 35, so he had a reasonable profit, plus he already had 538 spare stones. BUT the bastard is all the time talking about how it's not enough, how it's ending, how he's in a tight spot. ALL THE TIME. So much so that I was so anxious that I was forced to calculate and it came to that. At the end of the academy, he didn't have more? Not. He ended up with over a thousand!!!
7- often the protagonist comes out with some third-rate philosophical phrases, in exchange for nothing. He comes away with incredibly silly and distorted sermons for no apparent reason. And roll, roll, roll (important things are said 3 times, lol) on that. If you take the first 20 chapters, you can do 10 with that alone.
8- he lives having reactions and attitudes to certain things that far have nothing to do with his personality, but simply appears in the story.
is this and other reasons why I don't think the note of the novel should reach 4, more than 3? Certainly. More than 4? Difficult.

At the beginning it was great, after WMW I couldn't find another Novel where MC doesn't act as Earth's modern society's Boy scout in a world where there is no Earth.

MC was true to his ways his schemes were top notch, and he used the knowledge of the future to its fullest. The only problem on MC's way was nothing else than the Author Himself.

Author started to Nerf the MC of all possibilities from Power up to Social connections, I understand that the Author wanted to put a "Game Of... more>> Thrones" thing in the Novel, but he was forced to either do it only once, or repeat it over and over. He choses to do it once (so far).

The MC's Trump card which is his Plot device gets nerfed over and over to the point of not wanting to use it, Author drops some random spirit taking possession of MC, to cuckhold the plot device, the MC get confused, turns himself into a Zombie, which makes him unable to progress on cultivation, etc. Etc.

*sighs*

The Novel had a good Pace, now the Author slow it down to the point of making the readers to Skim it, from chapter 600, there is huge amount of information, Plot moving away from MC, nobodies fighting another nobodies, and the MC the character we want to read, just talking about buying and selling things.

Now the point of these 500 years from the future becomes nothing, because MC has nothing under his control, with this slow pace I fear that the Author will end it with the character on the same place, instead of adventure to the other worlds or higher plane, it seems that this won't exist here. The Novel is on Hiatus so there is no way to foresee how many chapters this will end, this could even have 5, 000 and my desire for otherworldly adventures arrives.

Author should take heed on the decisions he make with the MC, since he makes the initial good points of the plot to become invalid later, is understandable he want the MC to have a difficult road ahead, but magically nerfing the MC, in my opinion is a bad choice.

Another thing it gets to my attention are the 5* stars rating, not only on this novel, but many. People claim that the novel had some flaws, even if small these deduce points. Many like to review without finishing, like I do, but I always take account into the bad points, even if the history becomes great, bad point are still bad points, like a bad foundation on a skyscraper.

Currently on Chapter 1165, the plot stays in the same area, I wish for the MC to take control his journey and adventure more to unknown places.

Update in Chapter 2, 000. In the end I cant seems to like much this MC, there is no change from him since chapter 1 to chapter 2K, there si no character development, so it doesn't matter if you skip 10 or 50 chapters, you will read about the same MC but probably with extra things he got. At this point, I just wan tit to be over.

Final Rating 3* Stars. <<less

I like doing short analysis on novels that leave good impression on me. Reverend Insanity is such and deserves it. It is completely different from what I've expected and different from the other Chinese novels and miles ahead.

Fang Yuan is the phenomenon that caused a revolutionary change in Reverend Insanity. The main character is one of the best protagonist. He cannot be justified under normal means. He is true to his self and only work for benefits. He is portrayed as ambitious as a result and there is also justifiable... more>> reason for this. He can be evil or good for benefits, he can ignore actions, he can accept losses and consider the bigger picture and most of all he is very scheming. He is unlike most of the protagonist in other novels who fall for s*upid schemes and the females Fang Yuan is the main reason why I read Reverend Insanity. He is the main focus. Everything he does attracts focus. This is a unique character, even though there is no character development, considering that this is a time travel, it is acceptable. A very consistent character.

The cultivation system is unique and interesting. It is different from the typical cultivation system you expect. It perfectly engraves the idea of use, utilize, and refine and most of the concepts of cultivation and importance of resources. There is also aspects such as attainment levels. This just adds diversity to the cultivation aspect of the plot.

There is a decent amount of consistency and quality in the novel. The world-building is rich and done flawlessly. But the downside to this novel is also quite noticeable -- because Fang Yuan is too good, the other characters lose their value. Even though the villains are smart and unique to an extent, they are not really "formidable". It is basically being cast into an endless loop of a strong villain appearing and then main character instantly defeats the villain the next minute. This not only applies for the villains but also other characters except Fang Yuan. The moment Fang Yuan is not in the chapter, it becomes boring. You can notice this in the battle of Heavenly Court where Fang Yuan did not appear for a very long time and the battle became so chaotic that I almost had the urge to drop with the random seniors waking up from the graveyard in Heavenly Court and with revivals of randoms that take part in the battle with no prior significant eye-catching background and the funny part is that they die the moment they get introduced. This is also the reason why the action or fights in Reverend Insanity don't feel as intense as others because the villains are not "formidable". In this aspect, Reverend Insanity fails to impress. A good example would be, Renegade Immortal, this novel is also quite good and emphasizes on "character development" massively and has one of the best villains ever and the main character is also quite good.

All in all, if you like Fang Yuan, you will like the novel. If you don't like Fang Yuan, just drop it and instead read Renegade Immortal since it accomplishes the opposite of Reverend Insanity. <<less

So first of all some of you guys might not like the MC, Fang Yuan if you're not a fan of ruthless MC's that kills and steals for benefits.

At first Fang Yuan might give you the impression of a emotionless killing machine but as you read further you realise he has emotions like every human being, I love his perspective of the world and people, he's definitely one of my favorite MC's. He's quite shameless too, anyways f*ck reputation, I mean what kind of idiot would care about their reputation... more>> lol.

The characters in this aren't s*upid like those typical Chinese characters, they can scheme against others using their brain. The world building is very unique too, cultivators can't live forever or be resurrected but that law changes when something happens
Spoiler

(they can be resurrected now because Fate Gu is destroyed by Fang Yuan, there is a possibility that people can achieve eternal life too)

. Also it has little comedic moments but they are very funny af.

I personally enjoyed Reverend Insanity, too bad that the novel is banned due to the novel criticising the system and the government, there will be no more chapters in the future unless it gets unbanned and the author continues writing. <<less

I would give this novel a 3.4 but that isn't possible right?

The extra.4 is because the author put a lot of effort into injecting philosophy into the world building. Basically my way of saying kudos.

That aside, the 3 is because of the following good and bad points-

... more>> The good:

inventive skills. Creative scenarios. Use of imagery.

The bad:

ridiculous limits on everything forcing the reader to take their suspension of disbelief to an outrageous level--everything in the story is very impractical and far-fetched, so I have to say very poor world building. Nothing relatable. A main character who is supposed to be practical but who does evil things that create extra consequences, making him the opposite. <<less

50/100. This novel may suit some people's tastes but not mine. The novel is unique and deserves recognition for not being a standard regurgitation of xianxia cliches like almost all other novels. The author does have relatively unique plots and the cultivation system in the novel is also pretty unique.

The author does have some writing skills and spends a lot of time describing the scenery and diving into psyche of characters. The author also likes to flex his philosophical writing skills from time to time and inject a lot of... more>> proverbs and stuff into the novel. The author spends a lot of time explaining why people do the evil sh*t that they do and why the world is messed up.

But here lies the issue. The novel's theme is basically darkness. There are no redeeming characters in this story. The MC is messed up and dark. The surrounding characters are messed up and dark. The entire world is messed up and dark. This may be a novel for people that are angry and depressed with the world and see the world in such a way but this is not for me. The world is light and dark, there is yin and yang, and this novel has no light what so ever.

There is also problem with the MC and his jesus/gary stu complex. Everything happens for him way too conveniently. When he decides to do something bad, there are magically no repercussions because the author waved his hands. For a reincarnated person with 500 years of knowledge, he relies way too much on luck.

Why do I read a novel, to seek enjoyment? I want to see action, romance, adventure, worldbuilding, and a fun time. Reading about the darkness of human nature endlessly is not my definition of fun and therefore it is a 50/100 for me. <<less

We all know all people who rate this novel with 1 star is people who only read the novel under 700 chapter mostly.
Actually you guys missing the best part, it's like a a whole different world when FY becomes Immortal (rank 6). All things that happen when he is a mortal is make sense and explained well by Author. Most mortal in the world doesn't even know Immortal actually exist, that's why FY sees his clan and the mortal world with pity.

Spoiler

The Immortal world is rapidly change from each era. You can find it on reverend insanity fandom to see 10 great immortal venerables (rank 9), they lived at different era and comprehend new path (you can see it like new law). When this new path come to the world it completely change how the world works and make new innovation and even new path to emerge. In the mortal world arc Gu usage is just so so, actually gu can be used as a formation, building, battlefield, and many more. Hope this can make people that miss the good part try to read once more :)

The most significant point of the novel is the application of the chaos theory / butterfly effect.
Unlike other cultivation novels with astute and intelligent protagonists, in which even their rivals are also intelligent, they, for some reason, know the enemy's plans impeccably.
Not here. Even if Fang moves all the pieces correctly, there are still adverse factors that force him to adapt his plans.

This is more of a romance with a logical and selfish protagonist, if you enjoy Japanese isekai where the characters are unable to assess cost-effectiveness and... more>> simply play the superhero, PASS AWAY! <<less

First and most importantly, the MC ain't no simp or wimp and that's all you need to know before enjoying this ride. All the negative reviews are from people who haven't actually read much of the novel or hate it cause the MC is 'evil'. The MC isn't evil, just incredibly selfish and remorseless, it's not like he enjoys raping and killing every innocent villagers or seeing them torture each other.

If you're ready to enjoy one of the veryyyyy few actual S-tier novels on this site with a badass, calculative... more>> MC, great writing that is actually thought out and interesting characters, then this novel is for you. If you want to just read more harem novels with wimpy/dense MC's then this is NOT the novel for you. The MC loves no one other than himself and that's the appeal.

Ignore the hate, this novel has a high rating for a justified reason and be prepared to not be able to put this novel down once you actually start getting into it. <<less

Now this is an excellent novel. I recommend this novel more than any in this genre. Definitely one of the best. But why did I give it 3 stars and not 4 or 5. First I gave it 4.5 but I dropped 1 more star because of a few dislikes I personally have.

I won’t get into too much detail as the reviews below are all on point. Novel is about plotting and scheming more than raw strength. Everyone’s goal is to live longer and for that you need resources. It’s... more>> like us normal humans we need food And shelter to live. And that’s just the basics. For the characters in this novel they need resources to do pretty much any and everything. You expend energy when they fight so not everyone just goes on killing rampages like other novels.

good points:

1- great scheming. Characters usually scheme against each other to gain more benefits. But Fang Yuan he schemes against any and everyone. His character at the start and middle is top tier. A lone wolf that will rob a child of a lollipop if it benefitted him. He is consistently doing things that benefit solely him. He never does things that don’t benefit him and benefit others. For example if he saves a life he does it because that person brings him benefits. Or he saves someone’s like because he needs them to help fight against someone.

2- world building. The world Building in this novel is much more complex and complete than other novels. The power system is horrible but you will get used to it. It’s very hard to imagine worms and insects that have super powers inside them and people use that to fight and grow stronger. It leaves a bad taste but you get used to it real quick. Hard to imagine a gigantic worm that looks like a dragon spitting fire. Also how many worms on everyone’s body. Imagine everyone in the world is full of maggots and worms. Yuck but don’t go in too much detail. Locations are also nice and simple which is good too.

3- story. The story progresses in a smooth manner, everyone has their own goals and you don’t see someone giving trouble to the MC because he didn’t move out of their way. Or a pretty girl likes him and he is a love rival. Except for one but it is resolved excellently and nothing like other novels. No cliches. The cliches found in this genre are rare. You won’t find the auction conflict. The restaurant conflict. The young masters looking for trouble every step of their lives. Everyone lives their life peacefully unless it infringes on their benefits or wealth and then they act. Of course not everyone but I’m saying the majority. They all go about their business and don’t proactively go out on major killing sprees based on petty matters. Which is excellent. MC is also very cautious which goes well with his intention to reach rank 9 or 10. It don’t make sense to want to live a long life and then risk your life every two seconds. But in this novel when he risks his life he does it for a clear goal.

4- romance. This novel really shows the relationships between people that are based on benefits. Only one female fell in love with MC without external factors such as status or wealth. But she barely plays a role so far. Next other women want to get closer to MC due to his status but he plays it smooth. Also the women around MC, the actual women I mean. They don’t fall for MC even if he saves their lives countless times. Why? Because they know his character. He is a scumbag so of course they won’t fall in love. I really like that because it shows logic. Would a female really allow herself to fall in love with an evil maniac? No.

there are more good points but it would be too long to write it out.
now the bad:

1- lacks major emotions. To me Fang Yuan was a cold and calculating villain in the early novels which was great. But later on in my option he merges into some sort of robotic human that acts based on greed and fear. No other emotions are present. No love, no hate, nothing else. This might be good for some. But many people betray him and he accepts them. Some women offer themselves to him but he is not moved in any way. And he is not gay or anything like that. He just isn’t interested. Too focused or you might say he doesn’t see any benefits in doing such. But when an evil person is betrayed thence can expect them to get revenge in brutal manner. But this guy he doesn’t do that. He just laughs it off and says I would have done that too. For me it just doesn’t register as logical.

2- this is author problem more so than the story itself. The MC is surrounded by women. The author has written the characters surrounding the MC later on to be women. Even if they are a man they end up in a females body. Ridiculous. All the MC companion are female. But the sad thing is, they were originally men. Very weird right? Author has a transgender fetish or something like that. He also can’t stop saying how beautiful these wo (men) are. Granted that these men have weird bodies that to save their lives they turn into women. But whenever the convenience of switching back to a male body happens, the author delays it or makes a problem. Even one of the MC worst enemy who is a male becomes MC ally and ends up entering a female body. Like for what reason? I have no hate for a MC surrounded by women. But make them actual women not men that are seeking to change back to a male body. Also even if they were actual women, being around the MC who has no romantic interest is a waste.

3- MC <<less

Very different to other Chinese novels. If you want a typical power fantasy, this ain't it. There will be no romance, no friendship, but many intricate and well thought out enemies and pawns, each with their own personalities and backgrounds.

This novel is an entire philosophical journey. The MC is 'evil' by every definition of the word, but different to other evil MCs like Leylin. He's... lonely. He accepts and embraces this loneliness, instead seeing those who accept love and relationships as weak willed and thinks of them as people that... more>> are simply unable to endure loneliness. I really dislike the gu cultivation system. Mainly the fact that you have to feed them constantly, while realistic it's annoying and unnecessary. Compared to other Chinese Novels this one has a bit of a new take on the whole Cultivation suff which is pretty interesting. The Story starts really late, but atleast there IS a story. MC is pretty original. At the beginning he gives of the generic "oh Im reborn I know everything, life is so ez"feeling but there are some interesting plot twist (sort of), that even though they sometimes come with a bit of MC Armor are solid. Very good, enjoyable and unique. MC "acts" like a proper 500+ years old regressor instead of being a dumb teenager.

When you see inconsistencies that breaks the character or leaves plot holes stay calm, there is usually a reason behind them and are planned. Fights are realistic; cultivation is systematic, reasonable, fair (spend resources, gain progress according to your aptidute) and unique. Everyone in power is not just strong but also smart.

Folks who have brawl but no brain have to be really really lucky or they will be weeded out by... more>> their s*upidity or will be used by smart people. So instead of having a normal MC and moron enemies; we have smart, strong, ruthless and exprienced MC vs smart, strong, ruthless and powerful enemies. From rank 3 family elders to lowest of common rank 6 immortals, they have their fair shares of schemes and understanding of the world. Only thing that bothers me is stronger the MC more rank 3 clan elders become dumb. Author didn't want to give them basic poltical mind to them made them leaders lackey. Which is understandable because they have nothing to add to the story anymore and author has more and more Povs to write.

And the best part of the novel for me is be it mortals, mortal gu masters (rank 1 to 5), gu immortals (6 to 8) and immortal venerables (rank 9) are NOT immortal. They all have 100 years or so lifespan, only thing that change is higher rank you are, there are more means to increase your lifespan and that have a limit too. Even rank 9 immortal venerables who can kill basically anything in heaven and earth (there were only 10 of them in millions of years and with longest lived one was 25.000 years old when died) will eventually run out of ways to prolong their lives.

In an universe like this, Mc's only objective is being eternal. He will do anything and everything to achieve his goals, from slaughtering entire clans to making alliances with righteous ppl, depends on which one have more benefits. He is an aphathical demon with 0 morals, not an bloodthirsty maniac. He walks on his path and doesnt sway from his goal.

And just because you become stronger life won't be any easier. Noo, stronger you are more extraordinary you have to be. Entire cultivation system changes from rank 6 and it is extremely hard, dangerous and lethal trying to become one. Cultivators must break their aptidutes (which means there is no return failure means death), take heaven qi and earth qi from the world and balance these with human qi they have. More comprehension they have more human qi they have and more qi they can take from the world.

But there is a catch. World doesn't want you to take power from it, heaven and earth will send calamities to mortals that want to ascent to a higher being. More potential they have more they have to take power from world which means stronger calamities they have to face. Moreover ascending is just the beginning, with set intervals, cultivators face calamities over and over again, each one of them stronger than before. Number one death cause of immortals are calamities they have to face. Cultivators with higher potential will have less time between calamities and have their calamities more devastating. But immortals with low potential have less resource to fight and their lifespan might not be enough to face enough calamities to ascend (every calamity make them waste resources but also make them stronger, so without them thay can't get stronger). There are rare humans with heaven defying potential that have it is nearly impossible for them to get stronger just because of these stronger and quicker calamities lol.

So for the reason I'm dropping this novel is will of heaven and earth becoming main enemy is a turn off for me. This is reasonable, whole calamity and overcoming them is good part of the novel but will of heaven also controls luck, encounters of people and effects even decisions of creatures (humans to ancient beasts). Only way to 'partially' escape from this is being a "fate escapee". Being an otherworldly demon aka transmigrator (Which MC is also one) or being close to other escapees are only way to become one. Even transmigrators can't completely escape from fate because they born as a native of the world. When they manage to overcome fate, everyone who is bound to fate obstructs them. They fail with things that are depend on luck, aggressive beasts will cross their roads, your enemies will find you easier and people that have reason to obstruct escapee will meet them for no reason. This also applies when normal people become enemy with heaven blessed lucky protoganists.

Plot armor is will of the heaven itself. I don't know it will be any better, but I will be dropping this amazing novel until I run out of things to read. Don't be me and read this masterpiece, I shall return at the future. <<less

One of the best light novels I have read, its quality is top-notch for sure.

Not only the MC is special, the world in this novel is special. Every char can have a spin-off, since almost all of them has a perfect build for a mc: epic backstory, goal, wisdom and resolution. But, this world is cruel, so only the fittness can survive and live well in this world.

Many people say MC is anti social, but it surely not the case. Throughout the story, we will have a glimse about MC... more>> when he was first transport to this world. He was righteous, kind, and full of thought that with his knowledge in another world, he would live well. But then, everything he build and love were killed and taken away. At that moment, he come to a sudden realisation that if he don't have strengh, someday he will surely get tramp in this world. And then, he cultivate and created a sect. But then, the sect drag him down, and in the final moment, he is alone facing countless enemies. Finally, he conclude that only demonic loner way can make him a strongest, to have an eternal life.

Sure the author absolutely can write a story about that. But then, we will only see a generic MC being kicked and oppressed. Not very interesting to me.

If you guy just want a jesus harem MC who always right, has the whole world centered aroud him, another char just be there to make color, then this novel ia definately not for you. <<less
