Shen Wanying, 17 years old, was the famous young lady from the first private school in City A. Born in a reputable family, she had the best of the best performances and a gentle personality to boot. Wherever she went, she looked elegant and beautiful, a goddess in the hearts of all the students in the school.

She was the class flower, the grade flower, and the school flower.

Until one day… comes a boy named Huo Cheng who knew all her little secrets. He knew that she loathed studying and secretly drinks alcohol; he knew she loved to shake her feet when eating instant noodles!

Shen Wanying: “She is in trouble :”) ”

***

Huo Cheng died on November 11th. When he awoke, he went back to the year he was seventeen. All seemed strange and familiar and all he could remember was that his beloved wife, Shen Wanying, killed him!

***

“How much do you like me?” Shen Wanying asked Huo Cheng that day.

Huo Cheng looked at her deeply and finally said, “I love you. I’m willing to give you all my life.”

I like the premise that the MC (Huo Cheng) turned back time to when he was 17. Honestly, at first, I thought the story revolve around Huo Cheng getting his revenge towards the FL (Shen Wanying) because she killed him, but it was the opposite. Despite being killed by the FL, he still went to her side after his rebirth. What could he change? Did he overlook something? He never blamed her for the things she did.

So, if you're into light with less drama, and you like this kind of... more>> ML who doesn't harbor any revenge and ill-intentions, then you will surely like this. ≪3 <<less

This novel gave me a lot of varied emotions... At first I was like 'huh? why'd she kill him?' since I read the summary and the introduction of the novel. Instead of revenge, the ML decided to learn more about the FL to know why she killed him in the past life. It was because he knew that it was impossible for him to hurt her. The ML loved the FL so much since the beginning even after supposedly dying from her own hands.

Then as the story progressed, we witness... more>> the ML and FL have a very sweet and pure high school campus romance. The ML accepted the quirks of the FL and loved her for who she is. He was always there for her and accommodated all her wants and needs. Surprisingly, the FL was not an obnoxious person at all. Despite having some rebellious habits, she was genuinely sincere with the ML and stayed with him even during his darkest times (when he learned the truth about his mom).

So I started wondering why the hell would the FL kill the ML in the previous life. Turns out... (Dont read if u dont want to be spoiled lol)

Spoiler

The FL wasn't the one who killed him. It was another girl who was in love with the ML's mother's secret lover. She thought the guy really killed ML's mom so she wanted ML to die so the guy won't get arrested. The ML only thought it was the FL in his last moments because she wore the signature red dress that FL often wears. The past life was so tragic cause he died and the FL was actually in love with him during their marriage and was pregnant : (

[collapse]

After reading the whole novel, I teared up a little upon seeing the ML and FL get together and be happy. They were finally able to avoid the tragic endings of their previous lives. Also, their child was as shameless as them lolol

Overall, I think this is definitely a lot more different than Chestnut's other novels. Even though there is still less drama, the plot was more dynamic and the plot twist was so goooood. The author was able to perfectly combine mystery and romance in this novel, while keeping it fluffy and sweet. <<less

Story on the poorer side of average, without much plot. Makes me feel like every Chinese guy is an a**hole. Huo Cheng is the worst offender, he is needlessly cold to everyone except for Shen WanYing. He's like a territorial cat, hissing at every other guy who approaches, not that they show any worthwhile traits either. Even if he manages to chill out a bit, it's hard to see him as anything resembling a decent person, much less someone to root for. If this is how he treats everyone, it's... more>> not at all surprising that he ends up a stabbing victim. <<less

This is a very short and sweet novel. The only thing I have to complain about is that it only has about 50 chapters (when I mean 50, everything important happens within those chapters and the rest are fillers). The description of the novel is a bit misleading.

The male lead is reborn, and he wants to take this chance to get to know his wife earlier, so that she will also fall in love with him. And they will be married for love instead of business marriage like in... more>> his first life. There is NO MOTIVATION for revenge. And on the way he finds out things about his dead mother that might have lead to his death. The romance is subtle and for lack of a better word, fluffy. This is a light hearted book, so everyone can read it with confidence. <<less

I found this treasure after a lot of hunting for something new to read and checked out the summary. Everything was cute until I got to the part where it said FL killed ML. Uh, what? So I did what I always (but really shouldn't) do. Looked at some reviews. I was scared this would be tragic, so I also read the spoiler (:

Spoiler

It's not a tragedy and she didn't kill ML so go read now haha.

After finishing the review I realized this was written by Chestnut and I can already tell it will be good. She has NEVER disappointed me.

She didn't this time again. I love it so much. I usually don't expect much substance when I go for fluff. But this book one upped my expectation and was a fluff WITH substance. That's all I can say~ Please read and support Chestnut. Stan Chestnut xoxo. <<less

A lovely read with some plot holes but was interesting!

ML:

Spoiler

So when you come back to the past knowing that you're killed by your spouse your first reaction will be to avoid them. But here our ML still loves MC and went to make her fall in love early with him this time. Other than this, the ML was very nice. He met MC when he was 10 and fell in love with her. He secretly followed her. He pampered and did everything for MC what a girl expect from their spouse in both lives. He was a sweetheart!

[collapse]

Fl:

Spoiler

Our FL was likable. But I don't like the fact that author portrayed that a girl eating instant noodles, singing and dancing in ktv, and secretly hates studying is a bad girl! Our MC loved to do this. But can't as she always has to maintain a noble like image. But ML fulfilled her all wishes.

[collapse]

Fact I disliked:

Spoiler

I loved this book, characters, all were amazing. I just dislike the fact that why the author made them had s*x 3 months before their marriage? It was unnecessary. I know this is common in most novels but here the theme it was following that 1-time s*x before marriage was surplus. And the fact is for 1 time? You can wait for 5 years what wrong it would have done if they had waited for 3 months? If they had s*x after marriage just like their previous life it would have been better.

[collapse]

Tragedy:

Spoiler

Their 1st life tragedy really made me cry. So, ML mother was playgirl. Can't love only 1 man. She married ML father (as he was adamant marrying her despite knowing her ways) and was happy with him for 2 years but soon followed her old tradition. Started having affairs, concealing her marital status from them. So lots of drama later she broke up with her lover, but he berated her as he can't accept it. So, ML mother committed su*cide by not stopping brake. So, ML family hide everything from ML and showed him that his mother was elegant, pure and good wife and mother.

So here the lover was sad and regretted. He cried all time and miss her. So, a girl who is 10 years younger than him loves him. To stop her obsession, he told her a lie that he's a mu*derer. He mu*dered ml's mom. Our ML wanted to find the truth about his mother. So that girl thought ML was trying to send the lover jail. As she was obsessed with the lover, she planned everything and killed ML on his 1st anniversary by pretending to be MC.

The sad fact was ML and MC were very much in love that time and MC was pregnant. The ML died without knowing that he had a baby. They were only married for 1 year that time! How much breakdown will you face to know that when start loving your husband he got killed. I hope that girl suffer in hell for what she did with our ml.

My Thoughts:

Overall, I loved it! It's a 4.5 rating to me! I cut 0.5 for plot hole, I would recommend this to everybody who loves to read pure campus love stories? <<less

As per usual, Chestnut's works are light yet neatly written. The character development is on point, even the side characters have enough depth. No angst, just pure fluffy romance with some clear cut conflicts on the side similar to her other novels.

I love how the author always has a way of foreshadowing key plot elements in her works every now and then, like encouraging the readers to take a guess on the story as the narratives go.

It's a great read if you're looking for something light to pass the day.

This is a shoujo novel written mostly from the pov of the male love interest. Interesting concept until you find out that maybe knowing that much about the r*pey yandere stalker of a protagonist isn't the greatest idea given that it's a lot harder to empathize with him knowing he's pretty much an as*hole through and through. On that note, the premise falls apart pretty quickly. Yes I can imagine why he got stabbed to death after his first anniversary with the girl: this dude is insufferable. I'd want to... more>> kill him and myself too!

Yeah, this one is for the female readers. Yandere ML + weird queerbaiting shoehorned in every 2 chapters is a no thanks for me. <<less

This is the latest (i believe) novel from Chestnut and is part of the shared universe of her other novels, although there is not that much interaction with her other characters. This is very much in her usual style fluffy and sweet, this time there is a rebirth and some elements of mystery.

Ahahaha FINALLY the one I chose from this author's list is also on NU, I know many of their novels have been translated, but I still choose what I want to read, not those that are available on NU. I even mtl'd the entire novel before realizing that I should check it out. SO here we are.

And I'm not even kidding, I've read three novels (Useless supporting actress /good/, Falling in love with offended boss /best/ and Retired boss causing troubles in a wealthy family /good/) before I found one... more>> that was translated and put on NU :'D

NOW ONTO THE NOVEL!

I must say it was good. It is short, it has build-up and the climax, even a good morale of the story. Though for those who have trust issues what happened in the novel will sound like a nightmare. Most importantly it has a storyline and a pay-off.

CHARACTERS. As for the main characters I think we should give them enough credit where they deserve. Shen Wanying is a typical lady who grew up in a wealthy family, but because of high demands from her mother she always felt suffocated. She is the main carrier of the notion of importance to "be yourself". At first her situation feels oppressive, but it is not done in a morbid or sickly way, so there's no drama. She's just another girl who has parents who want the best for her, but to achieve best she must also strive to be the best. One of the characters represented the opposite of this spectrum, but to figure out who and what happened you need to read. Thus we find out that to decompress Shen Wanying secretly lets herself go. Huo Cheng as ML actually is pretty good, although at first he was shocked by the last pictures he saw in the past life, but he still chose to return to China to "figure things out" and they don't concern SWY's secrets, he knew those secrets from his past life and this was the steady foundation of their marriage, that she could be herself in front of him even in previous life. Here she happened to drop her vest earlier. But he doesn't care, he loves her for who she is, not her "perfect" image she presents to others. As I noticed with this author, we often really concentrate on two main characters and their development, but side-characters don't get as much of a character development, but take part in pushing the story, because in many other stories I've read some of the side-kicks are there for.. Nothing, they just appear and disappear, but I don't find their influence. Here I think things are different, since if it wasn't for several characters, there wouldn't be a bit of drama and the mystery itself, right?

STORYLINE. At first though we don't take this novel too seriously. Because of how many rebirth novels are out there at this point? Gazillion? But it has no deep revenge plot, yet more like it has a mystery. Since Huo Cheng says it was Shen Wanying who killed him, but was it really her? So this carrot was put dingling in front of us for some time, before we figure out the truth and the characters we meet basically help us to figure out this truth. Because this author likes to write a relaxed story more, this won't be an intense investigation with high stakes and danger, it has danger, but more subtle. Even emotional parts are not written in a tear-jerking or heart-wrenching way, it is more of a narration, leaving for a reader room to figure things out. And we also understand that Huo Cheng's return does not involve him meeting Shen Wanying earlier in this life, but also it involves HC's family, which completely sublimates the main theme of "being yourself".

Anyway, I recommend checking this story out and also this one 和得罪的霸总上恋综后 (Offended boss). What bought me is that this author has more simple style and simple stories instead of writing whatever, so it has a set goal and we get there by the end of the book. There is also no emotional exaggeration when it comes to characters, but I always find their feelings more profound unlike the stories where people scream about how they love each other. So in the end I liked their style, it may not always be perfect, no one is, yet finding several good stories from the same author is already gratifying for me :)

Now SPOILERS. Trust issues nightmare, remember?

Spoiler

I personally was amazed when things were uncovered. Although at some point the topic of who did it was a bit obvious, but still I found it interesting. After all it is simple when you look at it, but in the end it drove the entire story. That a simple phrase said to a girl, who actually has an abnormal mentality and misinterpreted the meaning, led to a loss of life. And more than that, coincidentally it has something to do with HC mother's past. Although it sounds too coincidental, but I think it was fine, because it made things cool imo. I don't want to be too spoilerish, because otherwise there's no meaning in reading this novel at all and the surprise is lost, because when I was reading, I knew that SWY did not do it, it was a bit obvious, but when it came to knowing the reason behind it and who I still felt like - oh~, so that's how it happened~. Because you realize that this tragedy wouldn't have happened without careless misleading speech.

[collapse]

PS: Oh yeah! If you're careful enough and if you read enough of their novels you will know that most of their novels exist in a shared universe and sometimes get a cameo, big or small. Which I think is cute. <<less

Wow some of the opinions out there.. Did we read the same novel? Okay so. ML is quite obsessed/ smitten with his wife, even if he thinks she killed him. I don’t see him as yandere as he doesn’t restrict her actions in any way and just loves her. It can be from afar but he’ll take the chance if he can get closer and be with her. Pretty decent ML overall, though I’m still not clear why he was that in love with her from the start. FL is... more>> ok too. A bit suppressed by family pressure and too much of a good girl at times (I kinda understand her, I was a straight A student and the so called pride of my parents- not bragging, just saying it’s a lot of pressure AND IT’S VERY RESTRICTIVE. Your behavior and likes need to be a certain way to please the parents and it really sucks.) Didn’t like that she remains timid and submissive to her mother even as she matures. They need to communicate more and some distance. Did not find that very healthy and our FL is not a role model tbh. Good thing the ML is considerate and not manipulative or this could have become a totally different story with her personality. Overall nice fluff. <<less

Good story. Not as good as her most popular novels, but it is afterall, a Chestnut novel. It's cute and sweet. It's more focused on the guy's side rather than the girl's side. Besides the fact that he went back in time, it's a typical high school romance story with a bit of mystery at the side. Not much drama, mostly cute scenes. I don't know why, but I just can't feel the fluff in this one (wasn't forced to do a "kyaaa" roll or do a fangirl scream). Both... more>> parties are kind of mature in their own way, so I couldn't feel the usual fluff like from other novels. Still it's lighthearted and sweet. A good read. <<less
