Wei Suo, a low level cultivator from the Spirit Peak City was scammed in a transaction. He ended up purchasing a damaged low level magical treasure. However, this worthless damaged magical treasure had an artifact spirit that already lived for several tens of thousands of years… On top of that, compared to several tens of thousands of years ago, many of the rare and sparse things were abundant now.

The first thing Wei Suo discovered was that the materials used to make a Fire Talisman that was worth half a Low Quality Spiritual Stone were extremely abundant now.

This novel is really interesting later on but sadly the starting hundred or so chapters are the weakest point of this story.

Sure this novel won't be the most original one out there but the fun it has would be on same scale as that of ATG, TDG, etc... It has excellent fights and humor.

Later on the characters aren't so annoying and the there is actual character development for MC. Even the world building in later chapters is really good. You would definitely like MC's future adventures.

You should definitely... more>> give it a try. I'm sure you would be disappointed for the starting hundred or so chapters but believe me it would be worth your time in future. <<less

I like this novel.

The MC Wei Suo isnt some über genius, doesnt join a sect, school or is born in some clan. He is a loose cultivator, even now. It doesnt start like most other novels where MC has to get strong really fast because revenge, or because protecting the close ones. Well, the protecting thing is coming up after some dozen chapters, but it doesnt feel so forced like most of the other novels I read. And thouse he wants to protect are his friends who curse him more... more>> than once.

He doesnt have to confront the strongest person of this family, or this clan, or this sect, or who knows from where because he got something the other immediately wants but gets humilated instead and swears to kill MC. He hasnt to fear a life and death situation around every corner. This novel doesnt force such situations everywhere right at the moment he enters a new town, area, house or sees a new beauty.

Well, he has the normal plott armor, but he has more often bad luck than other MCs too. Okay, there are other MCs who often have bad luck too, but this is still kinda rare and here refreshing beacause its more in a comical way.

All in all the character is like a c*ckroach. Life trys to beat him down, but he always comes back. Not like some poor immortal like beings who just need some time to get revenge. In the end the same, but it gives one an other feeling.

Maybe I am kinda numb, but Wei Suo feels more of a living person than other MCs. He is like an outsider in this way. He is neither a buddha or a demon. He just struggles to get through life, earn some spirit stones and ideally get some beauties on his side.

Thouse working on the english version did a great work in Stellar Transformation and are doing the same for Path to Heaven. Even with the new translator its still high quality translation. Good work, guys, good work! <<less

Loving this novel so far! This kind of protagonist is more relatable than many MCs from other xiaxia novels. No infinite rage/ search for vengeance, faceslapping every person you see and some other common tropes. Our MC is kinda coward and very shameless, though he remember debts and can be very brave to help his friends.

Give this one a shot, you might end up liking it!

I love the translators work! But the story itself is kinda tiring: the author does that thing where (s) he uses a thousand words where 10 would suffice, and while the development of the MC takes time, it does look like the story will get better later on. It makes what could have been a great idea rather tedious to wad thru.

Interesting story similar to Zuo Mo in "World of Cultivation", except where Zuo Mo is stingy but isn't really aware of gender, the MC in this series is a pe*vert and always thing of ecchi thoughts. Although, the MC doesn't immediately land himself in fortuitous luck that will grant him secret cultivation or martial skills, he is able to bully an Antique Ghost Spirit into sharing some secret recipes that are extinct so that he can make some money.

MC is a bit mean spirited, stingy, and quite selfish but it's... more>> amusing in a way. Can't say I like the MC because the mean spirited comedy routine is on par w/ the MC in "Conquest". <<less

Decent novel but could have been more. What I mean by this is the world building at start is great - its very detailed which means a slow build up that takes a couple hundred chapters but it explains tons of lore. The problem is the novel fails to build upon its strong foundations - its like going to a huge supermarket but it has the same items as a local shop.

The Good:

    1. Strong romance with nice sized harem and lots of intimacy/ teasing.
    2. Good world building with lots of detail
    3. After the weird pee jokes, there are some funny moments but this is far from a comedy novel
    4. Solid plot with an objective at end which makes sense i.e. Not a last minute rush job with random end boss
The Bad:

    1. Crafting is so well told in first 100 chapters I thought this was going to be a crafting novel. It is NOT a crafting novel. After a couple hundred chapters crafting becomes pretty much irrelevant.
    2. The cultivation pacing of MC and friends is HORRIBLE - basically MC gets to max level by 30. By last hundred chapters he literally gets level ups because its needed. This completely negates all the previous lore where normally you need energy and then dao comprehension +/- heavenly tribulation. What's worse, his friends/ enemies get same... more>> treatment and are power levelled so hard that the rare high level cultivations never seen before become like candy.
    3. Standard Chinese ending, author fills in main points but expects reader to imagine the rest - he actually writes a long blur explaining that all the small stuff can be "assumed" which I don't like.
    4. Too many techniques by end that it becomes hard to follow - he has close to 20.
So why 5 star? I'm always generous with my ratings when I get to end and am some what satisfied. This is probably a 7/10 novel but I liked harem, MC was ok and side characters weren't bad. Shame crafting wasn't expanded and despite all the detail in the novel, it can feel very slow because there aren't many cultivation levels and there is no upper world - world feels a lot like Divine Throne of Primordial Blood - for those who have not read that novel, its basically a cultivation world built hundreds of thousands of years after a world's peak and many techniques are lost.

This author has wrote quite a few books so see if you like his style and if you want a harem novel with romance and set in a world with rich lore and don't mind a slow read then give this a try. The novel is basically carried by MC-harem/ friends interaction. <<less

Stick with it. The protagonist starts out fairly annoying but he becomes tolerable later on. The fantasy/xianxia/rpg combo works very well here. Thoroughly enjoying it so far, and I suggest you stick with it till at least the 30s. His stingyness is funny at times too.

Analysis of the story:

Spoiler

At first glance, its not much different from the other xianxia's out there. Struggling MC meets an old granpa, who teaches him everything he knows. After a lot of struggles, he (presumably?) gets strong, gets famous, gets the girl, smacks to death all his enemies etc...

But this story is unique and very fresh in that the MC actually bullies the grandpa into teaching him everything, and that the ingredients he needs for cultivating is not just easy to find, but they are treated as rubbish.

I'm writing this review to only say why some ppl downrate this masterpiece when they only read the first 100 chapters, which are not even 1% of the novel. You can't downrate the whole novel for only a bad joke that happens only in the first couple of chapter about the old man that joke about peeing on the old man I know it's not funny at all, and the author didn't repeat it, the rest of the novel can be described in one-word masterpiece.

the only thing that I didn't... more>> like is that the novel doesn't give you rest between arcs like before he finishes the current enmity he has some piece os sh*t jump in and be the next enemy to the MC and not giving the readers some time to catch their breath, one last word the ending is to my liking you won't regret wasting your time reading this novel highly recommended to anyone who wants a novel who focus 50% action and cultivation and 50% comedy <<less

I expected greater things. I read the reviews first but a lot of them seemed harsh. Most of them are justified.

Why are there so many pee jokes?

Also, I know it's common now but please don't bombard me with cultivation buzzwords on the first chapter. Introduce your f*cked up system slowly.

MC is not too bad but he acts s*upid sometimes.

Also, it's not a big deal but using a consumable as your currency is going to bring a lot of trouble.

Caught up with the chapters after so long of missing out. If you want your MC to be morally upright, do not read. If you want your MC to be your everyday good guy, do not read.

This MC, Wei Sou, lives in somewhat a post-apocalyptic but recovering times after a few divine cultivators plunged the world into a mess. He is sh*t poor and lives in the cultivator slums. But dumb luck gives him an old grandpa to help out. Not your nice guy MC but still has... more>> his own morals. Good if your the "meh" knid of person. <<less

This is a novel which on the surface seems very similar to the rest. A weak MC who finds an object with a spirit grandpa in it who helps him grow stronger, fight against evil and attain the things he wants. What's different is how the author has treated the story. The MC is not your usual brainless xianxia hero who picks a fight with anyone who looks at him wrong. The grandpa who helps him can only provide limited help. The MC interacts with women outside of just seeing... more>> them as romantic or s*xual figures and treats them as real people. He grows realistically and cautiously. Not in a way that is so flashy that everyone around suspects he has a great secret and tries to attack him to steal it. There are also hints of the MC having a complex background which are not yet brought to the fore as of the current chapter. So far it's shaping up to be an intriguing novel. And the MC's shamelessness and language is more reminiscent of Zhang Ye from "I'm Really a Superstar" whom I think is quite funny. <<less

It's a bit dry but I actually have taken a liking to the MC. The fights seem a bit convoluted but then, I'm just starting to get into reading LNs so this may be more typical than the two other I've read (Stellar Transformations, which is excellent, and Tales of Demons and Gods). I honestly mainly care wight now about seeing how the MC gets on with the female leads and all the other back stories right now. Wish I knew Chinese...

An interesting story with an atypical MC in a strange world. The humor will get you comfortable before the writing pulls you in and the setting swallows your soul. The fight scenes in this one are actually pretty interesting, and generally well thought out. I like that the various magical artifacts you see everywhere in Wuxia novels are actually either consumable items, like potions or talismans - or extremely fragile and liable to break when launched against each other in this one. It highlights the mortality of the cast... more>> on their journey to immortality and turns antagonists into something more than just loot pinatas, which is a refreshing change. Highly reccomend. <<less

First time I've reviewed one of these web novels. I'm an avid reader of fan fiction, then discovered all these treasures. Admittedly that the formula is popular. Poor kid with a destiny, finds a magical grandfather, then becomes rich and fulfills whatever destiny the author desires. Very funny with the MC trying to just survive and the grandpa giving him the means to power. Not sure whether this will be a harem, although he is encountering a number of alluring women. I would wish for a faster update on chapters... more>> or that I discovered this story at the Chapter 100+ instead of the beginning. All the best. <<less

This one is hilarious with piss and greed all along a must read to change the mood. Also the MC is a nut-job, basically a normal dude with nothing to show off at first but with a great development of character to come

ps: Give it a chance as this MC is very different from the usual also this is NOT another BTTH

Update - As good as this LN is the chapter updates are very very infrequent currently. I wouldn't recommend to begin reading this LN at the moment, because you will quickly catch up to where the translations are at, and be left feeling frustrated that it takes ~ 2-3 weeks for 1 chapter, with no consistency of release date. Wait until chapters become more consistent again, before considering to throw yourself down a well of frustration.

I really quite enjoy this novel. Firstly a lot of novels have young MC's... more>> yet they have all this rational and wisdom. Well that is bs, what young teenager is able to stay calm and logical, and not be impulsive when treasures are in front of them. It is more realistic in that sense. Also the artifact that the MC acquires contains a consciousness, here again the MC acts more realistic showing caution and pessimism. Who here's a voice from an item and goes "you know, what this not shady at all, I will trust this voice completely", which occurs with other novels that use a similar plot of power leveling from an ancient supreme being.

There is plenty of new equips, recipes, and abilities, kind of like playing an rpg, it remains enjoyable by the consistent inclusion of interesting new things.
The MC has had a rough life and is fairly self interested, but well that makes sense, making sure he isn't going to be screwed over when he previously has been shown to put faith in others, or expect generosity.

He also will fantasizes about perverse things, once again a reminder that he is an adolescent so... All in all an interesting and good read, worth a look at. <<less

The MC is a shameless character. The development is centred between wealth and cultivation. Like traditional novels the gain in wealth is rapid but not meaningful. In ways of pills and inscriptions. The gains are paced so that the wealth and cultivation so they are kind of balanced. Well all in all read it. The translator is solid

Hilarious, pe*verted, money grubbing MC. Just don't take him too serious. At least the powering up is still realistic at this point in time and MC has fair share of set backs. No tragedy, but neither kills all enemies automatically.
