Yu Zhengdu joined a small start-up company that claimed to offer “life management services”……as a programmer.

On his first day in office, he received a phone call from a stranger: “Hello, I received a text message from your company that informed me of my reincarnation tomorrow……”

Yu Zhengdu: “……??”

Shang Que, the beautiful little boss, said, “New employee, welcome to the Hell organisation in the human world. A thousand years ago, I was known to the human world as the Ghost King of Luofeng Mountain.”

Yu Zhengdu: “……??” From then on, he was incredibly distressed about the development of Hell.

Reading this story, some things actually reminded me of TGCF, however in modern world. The story is funny and even tho there are fighting scenes, since it promotes a comedic focus, even those scenes are full of comedy. You can tell that the author also had fun writing this story.

Regarding the characters, the ML can be considered as OP.

Spoiler

Everyone kneel in front of him and even tho his history has been erased in the three realms, those who are familiar with him (monks and such) still respects him (his name) greatly. He isn't your typical ML also that is black-bellied or something. He's a game addict who wants to earn money (after the arrival of MC) to be able to buy things in his game. He also might look idiotic sometimes bcs he lacks knowledge of the modern world. He's hot and his presence actually screams "ruler", altho in this case "CEO". He's straightforward too, even tho he doesn't like to talk much, if he doesn't like you or you're being unreasonable, then you expect what's coming. He's cute tho, especially when he acts like a child or sometimes a tsundere with the MC. He doesn't let MC be bullied in any way possible.

[collapse]

The MC isn't also your usual naive MC.

Spoiler

He's smart and some of his solutions are funny but logical. He's optimistic even in certain circumstances (especially after he encountered different kinds of horrifying ghosts). He also likes to tease the ML and knows how to get his ways (bcs he knows ML have a soft spot for him lol). He also knows how to retaliate and doesn't let anyone who bully him (altho sometimes he's too lazy to do so) however he's much softer to talk than the ML bcs the ML is too straightforward. He's smart and has flexible ideas. It sometimes feels like some problems others saw as hard to deal with is just a snap of a finger to him and his technology.

[collapse]

The plot is light, full of funny scenes and there's no unnecessary drama. It isn't horror and there are no gore scenes (for me personally, I don't know if others find it gore). The chapters are all long, it actually took me three days to finish it. Worth the read! <<less

How does Hell survives in our "anti feudal superstitions" modern world? It goes digital of course! This leads to a lot of silly encounters, a lot of humour and a lot of wacky characters.

Comedy is the strong point of this novel, as is the magnificent cast of main and side characters.

The world building is great, the author clearly has a lot of fun (a bit too much fun maybe? it does get a bit repetitive) coming up with ways to mix modern technology and fantastic elements. It always has a... more>> shocking, hilarious, and yet oddly "realistic" result...

The plot... doesn't really exist. It begins a bit like a mystery of the week, then the middle drags on with too many "oh look another fun way to take something modern and apply it to the fantastic!", and the end has a world ending threat that retcons some of the things established at the beginning. But it always stays very light and funny and not serious which makes it snappy enough to be very enjoyable.

The romance is the pinch of salt of this novel. There is very little of it but it gives flavour to the whole novel. It's sparked by misunderstanding but build on trust. The way MC deals with the misunderstanding is one of the most satisfying ones I've read.

All in all, a tiny little bit too slice of life for my taste, but still a very funny and sweet novel. <<less

It's too episodic for me and the filler stories completely threw off the main plot. Even halfway the novel, it's still being bogged down by subplot after subplot. It was okay at first but then it became repetitive and boring, especially since the subplots didn't really contribute that much to the romance or the main story.

It's pretty funny at times and tbh the premise is new but there's also the lackluster chemistry between the main CP. The author attempted comedic fluff but the feeling just isn't there. Somebody called them... more>> caricatures. They're right.

The novel is alright to read if you're extremely bored. <<less

Even after reading such a fresh and new synopsis, If you guys ignore it then its your loss!

Tbh in the start I thought it would be like spirit hotel but this is sooooo different and better!

Its so loyal to its name and synopsis, yup its new times so gotta rely on technology for literally every task in underworld! Catching ghosts? Calling ghosts? Don’t worry we do it via camera and messages here xD

The comedy element? Its off the charts! Its hilarious. Not only the interactions of ghosts with MC... more>> and humans are great but the new technologies and the reactions of everyone to it are just *chef’s kiss* I love how everytime their reactions change from disbelief to technology rocks! Everyone who gets face slapped ends up as technology believers xDD

The romance element? Don’t believe those low rating reviews! The romance is great, at least for me it is! Its very subtle at start but if you pay attention, you can already see the two leads flirting unintentionally. From handholding to caressing forehead and hugs. Can you still say the romance is abrupt and there’s no dynamic between them? The ML fell in love because the MC is literally the first person from both humans & ghosts to approach him so casually and the MC himself got so involved with the ML that once he stayed one day apart he started feeling lonely! And one they get together, we get kisses too. Tho there’s no smut but they did ‘it’.

The MC as mentioned earlier is a bonafide programmer and not some OP heaven defying hacker. Tho he’s a genius, he still has his limits and would seek advice from his peers and hired a lot of people to help him in fields he lacked.I loved his adaptability the most tho. After discovering the new hell, even tho he was scared at start.I loved how he started experimenting with new stuff he was curious about and he would always have the ML accompany, protect and indulge him. His logic was impeccable, he had great ideas and he really contributed a lot to the new hell.

The ML was a CEO but as mentioned earlier he wasn’t the cold type. HaHa! He just wanted to play games like an immortal xDD.I loved how he would always indulge the MC like do you wanna do this? Go ahead! And would always listen to the MC because he’s the only one he’ll ever listen to! He was a bit of tsundere! Wanting to be confessed to by the MC and lets not forget his banter as an elementary class kid with people online xD

The plot was much focused on the MC and ML and their tasks together and them working hard. This was much appreciated.

The ending tho action packed was fineee! The extras describing the events of the future were great!

The premise of this novel is really unique and fresh and on top of it, it is WELL EXECUTED! So if you’re sleeping on it, that definitely your loss <<less

A pretty entertaining novel.

Started super nice, and I had high hopes after a pretty realistic (well, ignoring technical details) presentation on software development, and an interesting, down to earth view on how hell could operate in modern times.

But, after a while, it got downgraded to being a face-slapping novel. Both MC and ML are OP (in different ways), have golden fingers, etc. New sub plots are basically to show case how great/smart/op one (or both) of them are. Main plot line is gone and forgotten...

Its nice to read when you... more>> are bored, but after 90 chapters of the same, and with more and more ridiculous sub plots poping up, decided to give up. <<less

An unique story. If I have to draw conclusion, this story is about Start-Up company, lmao

The MC is OP hard working programmer. The ML is OP underworld king.
Together they build an OP Underworld Technology company, hahahaa..

The world building is interesting, the comedy also on point, the OPness and face slapping also in good amount, but if you search for romance this story is not for you. The romance is slow and low burn.

... more>> It's mostly about how they doing scientific Daoist cultivation and expansion of their company.

Well, apparently the company scope can become really big: health product, health scanning apps, ghost imaging, underworld social media and forums, life management ecology balancing apps, home appliances tech, amus**ent park, sanskrit rock idol, mobile games, travel blog, online shop, debt collector, and many more in the future I guess.. Hha

Science is the solution! :) <<less

This is a funny light-hearted comedy about a computer and app programmer who accidentally joins a company involved in managing ghosts and their reincarnations. He shifts from being a firm atheist to a believer in the supernatural.

It is an entertaining read. There are small amounts of dramatic horror and action, but most of it is just fun in the company with the MC doing his job. Although this series is tagged as a BL, that genre doesn't contribute much, and the series thus far can be read as not having... more>> any romance. The BL is so minor, it shouldn't stop anyone from reading this series.

The biggest detriment of this series is how often it pushes socialism out there. It just randomly talks about how great socialism is and how they're following socialist values, even if they're actually working as capitalists for an assignment. I think it's supposed to be a gag, but it can be off-putting.

If you just want to read a series for laughs, then this one is worth checking out. <<less

At first, this novel seemed more like a comedy than a romance. There were some really funny and satisfying moments that established the MC and ML's relationship dynamic. It's more enjoyable because it's a realistic, slow-building of feelings. From the MC wanting to quit the job on day one to thinking about the company's future.. It's really, really good. The side characters are also interesting and added to the enjoyment of the story. Highly recommended *thumbs up*

This is one of maybe 3 BL novels that I constantly check on whenever I come back to the site. Definitely one of the funniest BL novels I've ever read - the blending of technology and the supernatural is just too good. MC is talented and level-headed, which is why it's all the more hilarious that he takes his job as the only human in the afterlife company so seriously. ML (MC's boss and also a ghost king) is great too - the contrast between his power and his lack... more>> of common sense is expressed well, and his jealousy at not wanting the MC to be headhunted by other companies is also cute! <<less

I wasn't too sure about this but I'm surper happy that I did try it. It's so funny. I love the MC because he doesn't really care about his appearance or that he's an amazing programmer. The romance between the ML and the MC is kind of there but also not there. It reminds me of Devil Grandmaster with the way the romance started in the beginning. There is just an undertone of it at the moment. But I definitely see it hitting the fan probably in like another 50... more>> chapters at least <<less

Omggg, who would've thought modern scientific technologies and supernatural things, such as taoism, cultivation, and spirts can make such a good pair!!! Also, how fun it is exploring new types of ghosts and how most characters are easy to remember. (≧∇≦) b Personally, I really love how the author write the characters because they're always so fun and I like how they interacted with others.

I really love how silly the ML is, like he's cutely childish and sometimes I forget he is actually a ghost king TvT. Also, the MC... more>> is actually so smart which makes you wonder what his parents feeding him when he was younger. No but honestly, Yu Zhengdu and Shang Que actually make the cutest funniest pair, and it makes me want to find more danmei with this type dynamic sm. o (*≧▽≦) ツ

Also this danmei isn't too heavily focus on the plot, so I really don't think you should read this if you're looking for a story with a deep main plot and detailed backstories or smthin. This feels more like a fun read!

Definitely one of my favorite chapter is 84 because I laughed way to much reading it. (*'U`*)

PLEASE PLEASE I SO RECOMMEND SOMEONE TO READ THIS BECAUSE I SWEAR THAT YOU WON'T REGRET IT!!!!! (i hope...⊙︿⊙)

UEUEUEUEUE im terribly sad to see it end, but thats what I always say to every story. (Ĭ ^ Ĭ)
Ahhh, I truly love all those silly goofers sm and I wish everyone in their next life that they won't reincarnate as chickens!!! STAY SAFE AND KIND

This novel is just pure crack, if you go into it expecting anything life changing or emotionally heavy you will be disappointed! The characters are all pretty one dimensional, and they don't have too much depth or really any character development. For pure enjoyment, this story is great, but it reads like a slice of life with very minimal plot progression, so I read it more in parts than all at once as I usually do.

The main plot reads mostly like:
Spoiler

- MC encounters a ghost

- ghost tries to scare MC but oh no MC isn't scared because he's too cool to be scared

- ML appears, scaring the ghost to submission

- MC shows off his technology skills

- ghost receives retribution and reincarnates

[collapse]
and that's pretty much it, over and over. It's not a bad story by any means, but it does get pretty monotonous. I wasn't really attached to any characters, except maybe the goose.

The MC and ML had an alright romantic subplot, but it didn't have any real emotion behind it. They just... got together after some misunderstandings. There was no real realization moment for the MC, and I couldn't tell at all when he actually started to like the ML back. The interactions between the two of them were hilarious, but honestly this story did not convince me that they are actually a real couple and in love.

Probably wouldn't read it again, but it was highly amusing and I definitely had a good time reading. Will say that I lost interest near the end and I really can't muster up the energy to finish it, but who knows maybe one day I'll get around to it... <<less

This is a pretty fun story that mixed tradition with modernization. I think the authors idolatry of mobile phones, the internet, and fandoms is a bit naive, but it's her book - maybe in it there's no group think and fake news and extremism.

There's also a lot of nationalism in this book, so for people who can't bear the idea that another country might want to boast about themselves, this isn't a good read.

Otherwise, it's a pretty cute story. Slow romance based on some misunderstandings. There's a couple of supernatural... more>> mysteries that get resolved, and a surprising amount of face slapping. I guess the moral in the end is that humanity is pretty resilient and adaptable. And many people can change for the better given the opportunity and training. <<less

Read the full version from Chapter 1 - end at Chrysanthemum Garden.

The story is about a super OP programmer who signed a labour contract during his internship period without fully understanding his work environment because of job security greed and ultimately signed a one-year contract with Hell that he cannot get out of. Together with the big boss (aka the Ghost King/ our drop dead gorgeous male lead/ CEO/ the "face" of the company/ the preschooler/ the game addict/ the-guy-who-has-many-"great"-ideas), he embarks on the journey to modernise Hell and it's... more>> 6 paths of reincarnation though modern technology and socialism, and creating unique methods to earn money for the company to support Hell's path to modernization. This is a really good novel. The world building 10/10. The novel emphasis on the myths and legends of ghosts and the afterlife and religious rituals that you can skim over (don't know how true they are though), and how modern technology is used to solve the supernatural. The modern way to solve supernatural problems are so cute and logical that you really can't find fault in them. Through finding better ways to solve Hell's problems, our main protagonist creates tons of interesting tools to help the poor broke company earn them RMB. There is also a heavy emphasis on socialisim and capitalism which is humours. If you take it with a pinch of salt and read it just for fun it's alright. But if you think authors who touch on the topics are propagating them then this really isn't a book for you. The main protagonist is they sunny optimistic boy next door who isn't the overly naive type. He is a super "straight male" wink wink*. The ML is a slightly childish, not-so-human super adorable character. Both of them are enjoyable characters who are good at what they do and don't need to wait for either to save each other. This isn't a super fluffy book about their relationship but their interactions are top tier!

In the epilogue, there are 3 extras called Feiyu Amus**ent Park (Chapter 141 -143) that has the foreigners-look-down-on-us-but-was-ultimately-faceslapped thing going on. So for those who get triggered when they read this, you can just skip these chapters. But it isn't really that bad just skim through it for fun if y'all don't mind.

All in all, this is a must read. It's a refreshing novel with great world building, characters, plot pace and epilogue! Definitely recommend anyone who is just browsing through looking for a good read. <<less

I like this story, , such as the plot, characters, and their background, , 😆

The MC is enjoyable to read, , I can assure u he won't bore you with naivety and dense as thick as iron steel, , but smart and sensitive (in a certain sense) 🤭

The ML is definitely not possessive nor black-bellied (or maybe hasn't had any chance to show off yet) but throughout the story he is your little cutie pie that demand money everywhere he go, , his antics (also real antique) never get enough... more>> and the fact that he (as the demon king) is game addict!! OMG, so cute...🥰

Although the plot somehow getting impatient in some part, that seem like skipping the enlightened process of the villain (like 'just get to it!' sentence) what I am focusing was how they flirt and kill ghost, , so... nah, who cares 😌 <<less

I would have given it the whole 5 (five) stars if it wasn't for the whole 'socialism is the best, everyone needs to become a capitalist and make money', and the whole 'you don't even exist unless you make money' - the ghosts that weren't employed weren't seen as 'awesome' as the ones working.

The rest of the story is quite interesting. I like how the author tried to find a scientific way to explain religious concepts and events, only to end up giving vague explanations or simply showing that everything... more>> cannot be explained by science because it's a supernatural event (it was made possible thanks to Luofeng Mountain's power or the Chaos Realm's energy etc).

The story about the Ghost King coming to the mortal realm and having to register himself as a human, register his business and, later on, even acting like a human CEO, giving speeches at annual parties and performing for his employees, all this is quite comical. We all love the idea of someone high up trying to come to the same level as us and see the world from there. So I guess this part is very alluring.

The story between the Ghost King and his spouse is super cute and entertaining. It's absolutely hilarious that Ghost King actually learns to flirt and about human culture and traditions and relationships from dramas 😂 no wonder he's so dramatic.

I like that the author never referred to the two spouses as husband and wife. I don't personally like when authors refer to non-heteros*xual couples as that. As if the roles of husband and wife are something set in stone and one individual shall be 'masculine' (powerful, domineering, more intelligent than the other etc), whilst the other individual has to fit a 'feminine' role (fragile, always pointing out they're beautiful, always needs rescuing). I simply find it nauseating when authors use these terms. It makes it seem as if they're heteros*xual themselves and have done zero research about non-heteros*xual people, but write BL just because it's what's selling best atm. So this author gets my appreciation for not doing this.

I am super happy Peppa had a happy ending as well. It was heart breaking to hear about her circumstances when the MC and ML first met her, then it was absolutely tear wreaking when she finally reincarnated as a goose and the MC and ML raised her. Lastly, it was smile-inducing when she transformed into a human and MC and ML considered her their daughter (well, she was their daughter ever since she was a goose egg).

I feel like the author has somehow shown the good side of religion, where it unites people; but also the ugly side, where people use all sorts of methods that some psychopaths came up with with the excuse of aiding them in their endeavours.

All in all, I enjoyed the book very much (apart from hailing socialism and capitalism; I'm not against socialism but I very much oppose capitalism and the notion that people's only purpose in life is to work to make money).

A massive thank you for the translators and editors. Your work is appreciated. <<less

I will definitely miss all the characters here most especially my favorite ones-

-Ghost King family of three: SQ, YZ and Peppa the little cutie patootie office bully

-the Hungry Ghost Path's mom and son tandem- Ghost Mother of Xi and Needlepoint-Throated

... more>> -the office workers: Kang Jin and his famous wig and Zheng Yan

-Boss Wei and his daughter Momo and Boss Yang Xin

-the Feiyu Amus**ent Park "staff"- Hanging ghost unnie, worm seller, calligraphy seller, headless and intestine ghost

-others Daoist Mu and asst and Gao Duidui.

Arcs that I like the most: Peppa and Qin Yuejin and Zhan Keji

Overall this is a very entertaining novel, funny and the arcs most the time is catchy. Although the love/relationship arc between the ML and MC is a little slow and there's just a medium amount of fluff, it's still a very nice read. <<less
