In the dreamer’s dream, the dreamed one awoke.
— Borges

“I exist between the heavens and earth, in the sunlight, in the wind, and in dreams.”

One night, Yu Hao, a college student who was at his wits’ end had an unexpected encounter with a mysterious visitor – “General” – who had dream travelled. He led Yu Hao in solving the countless riddles that abounded in the realm of the conscious, and lit up the fire beacons on the meandering Great Wall.

Thereafter, the darkness retreated, the sun rose, and when the long night was thoroughly lit up, the him who existed in reality was reborn.

The black dragon that roared, the lighthouse and demonic eye on the coastline, the rain forest before Chichén Itzá, the fierce beasts that wreaked havoc in the Colosseum…the bizarre projection of reality in one’s consciousness reflected the hidden place that the sunlight in reality couldn’t touch – the innumerable sins of the human heart.

The journey of seizing dreams continues, and one can only hope that the sun will continue illuminating the human heart.

——

Fire beacons on the Great Wall were lit up to signal a border invasion.

Seizing Dreams is an excellent work, provoking the reader to explore their selves.

People's experiences shape them; no two human beings would ever be the same. Seizing Dreams reflects this perfectly, by exploring parts of the mind the physical body cannot have access to: dreams.

Seizing Dreams is a piece about growing up, friendships, and the mental and physical demons that harbor and shape us along the way. As people go through life, it is inevitable for them to go through challenges. Challenges that shape us, depending on how one handles it.

In... more>> your subconscious, it manifests in different forms.

As another review states, there is one statement that resonated with me the most, as a fellow loser like the MC was. I'm envious. Why does Yu Hao get to escape from his darkness? Why does Zu Sheng save him? Can I also get a Zu Sheng, an impetus to keep me moving forward, to shelter me from these encroaching feelings?

Yu Hao felt there was no more purpose in his life after his grandma passed away. No parents, no friends, no goals, no dreams. Living life, with a plan to end it all in a day. Yet Yu Hao gets saved by strangers, changing his entire life alongside theirs. They give him a purpose, a pillar to lean to, giving him happy memories to cherish.

Wading through dreams, killing, facing a person's mental demons, allowing them to move forward and be stronger. That is what the core flow of Seizing Dreams is about. Your core beliefs, manifesting into Totems, giving you strength to keep on living, using your Totem as a weapon to cut through troubles.

As they explore dreams, Yu Hao gets to see what shapes their dreams. Childhood experiences, family behavior, societal pressure, professional troubles, personal relationship issues, regrets, aspirations. Your mentality is reflected by your dreams, bared by Yu Hao for him to experience it all.

Yet life is not only about dreaming. Unfortunate as it is, reality exists as well. Reality is harsh and cruel, baring their weight upon all. Yu Hao experiences this as well, after being saved by Zu Sheng. After going through trauma, you still have to face reality. Life does not end on your traumas, they shape you instead.

For most though, can they fight the trauma? Or will the trauma shape them instead?

And this is the part of the novel I found unfair. Zu Sheng said it: if Yu Hao did not have the will to live, he would've jumped once and for all, even after Zu Sheng tried to save him. How is Yu Hao so mentally strong? Why is Zu Sheng, despite all his flaws, so perfect? Why does Zu Sheng get the ability to save people from themselves?

Reality is really too unfair.

After reading Seizing Dreams, I give my props to FeiTian. If you have a broad mind and are able to read works with a homos*xual pairing as MCs, then I would not hesitate and read Seizing Dreams. If I've read this novel four years ago, then perhaps I'd be like Yu Hao right now, living life happily even after seeing the darkness with it. On a novel that explores its characters mindscape, I encourage you to dwell upon these imagery and apply it to your own imaginary mindscape. Perhaps this way, you'd also be able to identify problems, not allowing them to fester before it explodes on you, ruining your outlook in life.

There are many regrets I have in life, and I tend to think about what forms they'll manifest in my dreams. I haven't faced them yet, but after reading this and sobbing for an hour, I find that this novel gives me solace. Unlike most novels with the aim of facing me away from reality to distract you for a few hours, perhaps you need a different approach, and make you force to see reality instead, however cruel it may be. Treatment is better than cure, that, even medicine lives by.

I'll edit this review once I manage to face my fears and regrets, and I'm thanking Yu Hao and the crew in advance.

I may never get a Zu Sheng in my life, and if I ever don't, then I wish to be someone else's Zu Sheng. Godspeed, FeiTian. Godspeed, Doumeng. Thank you for this opportunity in life. Words cannot express how thankful I am. <<less

The book is one of my all time favorites!!! It perfectly takes elements of Fantasy, wild bosses and action, a good helping of the most fluffy and serious romance, and sci-fi fun. It's written so beautifully and I'm so thankful for the amazing translators that worked on the novel. They perfectly keept the pacing on point and even worked well through many of the super complicated grammar points from cn-->eng. Of. The storyline was special and very interesting the whole way through the novel. There was a clear partition between... more>> the segments in the book but it also led to a smooth flow to deepen the characters relationship with eachother. The characters were not overly cheesy or boring but they had real feelings and character growth as the story progresses. The main romance and interesting fantasy plot is worth everyone picking the novel up for a good read!!! <<less

A modern fantasy novel with scenes that juggles between dreams and reality. Action, adventure, comedy, fantasy, drama, romance.

The story is so good and have a unique plot, but can get a bit boring due to numerous analysis and psychology terms. But I love the world building, the characters' growth, how they tackle their problems, the camaraderie, the plot, the characters. Hahaha. This is really good. Plus the cover is made by Takarai Rihito ? I also love and hate the ML ? I want a Zhou Sheng... more>> but I'll cry if he shouts at me ? <<less

This novel is so gorgeous. It's like reading a story based psychology book. The character dynamics, how all the relationships progresses and all the actions are so goddamn *chef kiss*. Sometimes there are times when I think it was too boring in the early chapters but oohh god they delivered. How everything connects at the end, that feed my soul so much.

FLUFFY! Just fluffy & the characters aren't shallow at all. Overall a really good BL with a plot and a very skillful translation (I'm your fan Zryuu/DMlations!) AND the confession scene is just TOO SWEET. I probably read that chapter a hundred times

Well, for those of you who like overprotective ML types and have a genius brain in judging a situation, also seme who know how to spoil the uke... come on, I really highly recommend this novel.

This is a novel that can make your feelings go up and down like a rollers coaster, I mean not for ML and MC but other characters. the story is very striking. I even think that I can suffer psychological pressure when reading it because I am a person who is easily angry especially if... more>> it is concerned with bad people who always win in suppressing the protagonist, lucky there is a smart and reasonable ML, a general who I hope also appears in my dream, hahaha.

It's very worthy and satisfying to me, especially for a happy ending. I love writers and translators who have worked hard, thank you very much for this fun novel.

by the way for the song sung by the MC, thank you too I really liked it.

every time I listen to that song, it will remind me of this novel especially the MC who sings it. I think that song is one of the good points this novel has. <<less
