Bruh, this is freaking sad. The MC keep making the wrong choices. He was afraid and no one was there to guide him. I just hope he could be true to his feelings.

Tbh. I hate novel like this. I dont care abt the in*est or the gay taboo. I understand his sentiment and he also feel guilty.. But its been years, I mean for how long do you want to wait. Hes a coward...

This remind me of the vampire manhwa (I don't remember the name) but I f*cking... more>> hate it. The MC made the wrong choice too that make both of them suffer.

Why care for anybody else, is it important when youre both in love. Nonetheless I will still give this 5 star cause of the good writing and for the sake of not downgrading this. <<less

First I have to say that this story really made me cry... such bittersweet story.

I have been in this site for around three years and this is the first time I have written review.

The plot is very good and the way writer had written it made it very much realistic.

Xu ping's inner monologues and struggle had me crying in nearly every chapter..

Thankfully this story had a happy ending..

It was a good story. It's a type of cruelty that really do exist in the world somewhere I guess. Forget about the ”in*est tag” I know it's truly not something I would say about but it provides the feeling of helplessness.

The plot was good. The elements in the story was full of pain. I pity the ML and MC they are sobpityfull. Please read and judge it. That's all.

Thank you author your literally forms are very good.

A poignant, heart-wrenching story, where even the happy moments make me feel like crying. T^T

It manages to capture a very true, raw perspective of 1980s China which was really interesting but full of indignation at how much the brothers had to go through. I just want them to be happy together (இ﹏இ`。)

If you didn't notice, this story includes in*est and BL so if you don't like that or you're not interested in those genres, don't read.

I loved this story and I think a lot of others would too.

I been on this site for about 4 years now and never written an review, I'm going to start doing this more often, but before I do, I needed to start with the novel. Idk how or why, but this is the novel that helped me find this site. While my ass was sick of Wattpad and Goodreads, I started to search on Google for some translated Japanese light novels. Idk how I got this novel from searching, but I did and also this amazing site.

Actual Novel review: Like I... more>> said above, I found this novel 4 years ago and haven't read it since, so I can admit my review may not be the most accurate, but I do remember being very interested in this novel and wonder wtf was going on. I don't think I liked the MC very much and the ML reminded me too much of "of mice and men" which if you seen or read it, you should know who I'm comparing him to. I going to give 4 stars cuz while I barley remember it, it had to be very interesting for me to finish the whole thing (Its very hard for me to finish novels) and I may be a little bias cuz without it, I wouldn't have know this site existed. I have a huge back log of novels rn, but one day I might reread this book and give an more insightful review. <<less

heartbreaking, in the best way. If you want your heart to get stabbed over and over again, this one is for you. I read this in one sitting. The author has a very realistic grasp on human struggle, and the life depicted in this turbulent time period in china is very easy to understand for an outsider. The end was unsatisfactory to me though, the couple of last chapters lost the realism that this entire novel was based off of.

This is my first time reading a story of a disabled gong, the start is good the middle is heartwrenching and becoming more so as it progress at the end of the story.

I was thingking that as an author the story has 2 ways to go, a cheerful one and a gloomy one. This story also has potential to become a light, comedic and heartwarming but the author happens to choose a serious approach which evokes our melancholy sides.

If there's a chance to be remake I would really like it... more>> to read it again on a lighter note.

Personally I feel this one is too heavy for reader who doesnt really like sad story, you will be crying reading this. <<less

It's nicely written but I'm not sure what to feel about this.

Xu Ping suffered a lot and idk why the author had to put him through so much. Isn't falling for your own mentally disabled brother enough of a turmoil? I'm not sure what I, as a reader, am supposed to take away from his extended suffering.

Xu Zheng, I feel that he was already sexually attracted to Xu Ping to begin with, like, Xu Ping was definitely his s*xual awakening before he even knew it, so I don't feel so... more>> iffy about Xu Ping initiating their s*xual relationship. However, he was indeed clueless about it at that time, so I'm not sure what to feel about that. But later on, when they were already in their 30s, I believe that he already knew or understood some things about their relationship in his own way. And he even took the initiative to kiss Xu Ping. But at the same time, there are plenty of things he doesn't know and I'm left feeling unsure about his capacity for consent. But he does indeed definitely love Xu Ping in that way, and I don't think Xu Ping influenced or guided him into it. <<less

While I finished this novel almost one year ago, only now I have enough courage to write review of Brother. First, I saw and read the description 2-3 years ago. At that time, I knew I was not ready to read such a deep novel that includes heavy sentimentality. But, after I read plenty of BL novels, I suddenly remembered this novel, and decided to read it. You can see from it that even the description and the name have left a strong impression on me.

The novel is undoubtedly a... more>> literary fiction. However, there are lot of sensitive topics in here. in*ests, autistic person, oppressive environment, cancer, death... I can't describe enough the plot with my words that gives a shine to the novel and attracts the readers. You can only read to know why the readers praise the novel even it has plenty of triggers. But if you have a weak heart, I advice you not to read Brother until you prepare yourself.

P.S: While I was reading 'Brother', I selected 'Snowman' of Sia as my background song. The music of this song really suits the novel. So, when you dig into this novel, try to listen and pair with it.

Also, about the name, using my little Chinese, 'Brother' refers a younger brother who has autism. <<less

5 over 5 stars, okayyy?!

"Brother" is about a somehow forbidden love since it has in*est—which is between two brothers (the title had said so).

One is an older brother whom loved his mentally disabled younger brother, whom he pressed on that he hates him, but in truth, he actually loves him, more than that of a brotherly love.

Reading this was one of a risky ride. No matter if it has in*est, the author has conducted a great story that evolves around a lot of things regarding life. And even if Xu... more>> Ping (the older brother) tried to stop his growing feelings for his brother, he still knew at the end that he couldn't.

Plus, since it was notable that he's the older one, he had to look after his brother. Escaping his feelings was really a hard task.

The part between the scenes where they were together would break my heart since they're either arguing, or either not in good terms; not to mention Xu Zheng (the younger brother) being called r*tarded was always brought up.

There were trigger warnings in almost every chapter, but I guess that's just how tragic and miserable their life is.

All in all, a 5/5 star rating for me. Though it was kind of a sensitive type of storyline for someone who's new to the BL novel world, I still did enjoy having to cry over it.

Spoiler

I actually thought he'd die in the near end though. But on second thought, it was better that he did not because his brother would raise up hell over earth😥

I was afraid to pick up this novel given the issues involved but I’m so glad I did. Author did a great job - giving perspective and nuances to human perceptions and emotions while dealing with controversial topics. Translation was top notch- conveyed all the right tones and sentiments. To be, the ending was a happy one. ❤️👏🌹💐🧨⭐️

This book was BEAUTIFUL!

Very simple and plain narrative, a very chaotic setting, lovable characters who you can empathise with, and a beautifully poignant love story that will keep you warm while bringing you chills.

The only thing I regret is not reading this sooner.

Spoiler

Has a lot of suffering, but sometimes I just love to torture myself so I loved the emotional roller coaster.

I think the things that happened to XP were a bit too much, it's to the point that I thought it would end very badly. I'm glad it didn't though, snd that makes me feel somehow relieved but not completely. My chest hurts reading this :') I'm never going to re-read this again.

I feel very conflicted at the part where Huang Fan came back to help Xi Ping but then went away again. It's like helping someone but he has ulterior motives. "Does he intend to make Xu Ping indebted to him?" that's what I was thinking after I finished the novel, but at the same time kinda thankful because he helped Xu Ping.

[collapse]

Idk maybe it's just my trust issues talking.

Spoiler

But then again, it doesn't help that Huang Fan, that bit*h literally r*ped Xu Ping and somehow after he did it, Xu Ping still forgave him??? And he even went to prison for him??

[collapse]

Xu Ping, baby, if that isn't what you call s*upidity, I don't know what is. <<less
