They say Gentleman Xiao Yao (carefree) Liu Feng is a famed righteous pugilist. He himself thought that even if he isn’t considered noble and benevolent, he is at least of honourable character.

But only when he met her, did he realise that he is very well capable of being such a lecherous man. At every little moment he is constantly wanting to take advantage of her, always trying to touch her soft slender hands. It’s hopeless, who told this lady to just be so interesting, causing his heart to helplessly be moved by her—-

Her appearance looks like that of a refined lady from a well off background, but in reality she is nothing like that inside. Not only highly skilled in martial arts, her sharp tongue is also highly skilled, capable of angering people to a whole new boiling point.

Her ways of doing things is also extremely bold, completely treating the principle of impropriety between men and women like an old fart. He had only jokingly invited her to sleep with him, yet she actually pats the bed beckoning him to attend to her (?) Even going to the point of shooing him out the room after eating him dry, finding him to be too obstructive on the eye, what a way to shoot down his self-esteem.

Ai~ to fall for such a unique girl, causing him to be filled with joy one moment, and filled with sorrow the next. Overjoyed when he has her by his side, sorrowful when she acts so elusive. If that was not enough, she didn’t even leave a single note behind and disappeared without a trace, causing him to become like an abandoned husband searching for his wife.

Little do they know that this is an important test to see if these two people can be together…..

This novel was kind of average.

The pacing of the plot also threw me off a little bit. One moment, Qu Qing Yin was being cold to Ling Feng then another moment, both were rolling in the sheets.

The premise was good and the story itself wouldn't have been much of problem, only if the author expanded on the relationship between the leads a bit more. The development of the relationship between the ML and FL is underdeveloped.

The FL, Qu Qing Yin, was average though I did like her poisoned tongue very... more>> much.

The ML, Ling Feng, didn't have much problem either except he had annoying peach blossoms that turned me off.

The first 5-6 chapters are boring as hell (it has only 10 chapters in total mind you). The plot picks up only later. So that's that.

There are not much action either despite it being a martial arts novel. If you want to read a lighthearted xianxia novel to pass the time, then go ahead by all means.

It was 2.5 🌟 for me and I'm rounding it up too. Maybe it was just not my cup of tea but others seem to like it very much🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️ <<less

Big credit to the translators for my enjoyment of this short story! The pinyin and wordplay explanations really helped me understand the author's meaning more clearly.

Also as the translator noted, there isn't a lot of action in this despite it being a martial arts story. I don't think that's a bad thing, though, since that means it focuses more on the human relationships rather than philosophical cultivation techniques and big laser beams.

That being said, it is still a short story. The whirlwind romance is somewhat rushed so it feels forceful... more>> at times, and if this ever got adapted into a longer series, I would love to have more scenes of the FL's past. But overall, it's a sweet relationship with some heroic feeling in it and it was just nice to read.

I would put trigger warnings on it, though, for non-graphic s*xual assault (not by/to the main characters). It's a pretty big point in the plot, so if you're not okay with it being mentioned constantly I would recommend you curate your own experience by not reading this story. <<less

The story was jam packed with sentences that have double meaning but overall a quick read. Although male lead was a tad shameless but I do like how he and the female lead communicates and also how he respect boundaries when it comes to serious stuff.

Spoiler

Though it’s abit sad that the author did not include a snippet of their kids. It would be hilarious if they follow the female lead attitude on her shifu teaching. Haha

Translated very well. Minor errors exist, but overall a great translation.

This is mostly a light story about two highly intelligent people bantering while falling in love. The story is quite short at 10 chapters, each is split in two in the translation. There is a bit of action, but the main draw is the cutting tongue of the female lead. Quite amusing.

To answer other reviewers, I don't think the male lead is r*pe-y, he is aggressive for a bit. The actions of the female lead aren't the most ethical imaginable... more>> in a particular case, but they are reasonable and understandable. She does regret them later.

It is fine, read it. A nice little romantic comedy in a dangerous world.

Detailed, but quite spoilery answers to same concerns :

Spoiler

About the r*pey ML allegations. It isn't clear the FL is actually weaker than the ML, in any case, it is probably true that if she really wanted to she could "push him away". In another instance when the ML does too much while she is in a bad mood, she does just that and scolds him.

He probably had to be a little aggressive at first since the FL was refusing to even consider him without a slight shock due to circumstances of the overall story. Presumably, he could tell when she attacked him seriously and when she did it perfunctorily. Later, she seduces him into bed once she learns he was actually a virg*n, which serves as further proof he doesn't act this way towards every woman.

About letting Shui get r*ped. I don't think it was a good outcome, but first of all, Shui was already going to be r*ped once due to disregarding the general and the FL's advice, was saved at the last moment due to the FL and it didn't cause her to reconsider her actions or behavior at all as she then immediately planned to have the FL be drugged and helpless so she would be r*ped, and drugged the secondary male lead to be very h**ny and slipped sleeping medicine to her own guards so they don't stop that lead from visiting her at night. If he wasn't drugged, the second male lead would have helped her again, but due to being drugged he left the inn to drink and indulge in women elsewhere. Shui really dug her own grave very carefully. This is while the FL tried to warn her subtly while she was feeding her drugged food.

Once the rapist arrived, it isn't even like the FL could defeat him one on one without serious risk. In fact, due to the circumstances, it would have probably devolved into a fight to the death with the chances against the FL. I wouldn't take that risk for someone who tried to drug me and have me r*ped. Even on the grand scale, if the FL confronted the rapist too soon and died, the amount of casualties down the road would have been significant.

The one thing the FL could have done differently and she regretted later, is to directly reveal to the secondary ML he was drugged rather than just hint about it to him. Might have helped, I'm not even sure it would have worked if the rest of the guards were still drugged.

Short story and to the point. I like the mysterious background of the FL. Didn't expect it. And 8/10 for the translation. Keep up the good work.

Though short, the story was amazing. First of all, would like to commend the translator because they really put a lot of effort in explaining everything and trying to make sure that the banters and wit of the FL was portrayed correctly. Really really good read.

And now, the FL. SHe is soooo funny. Love her wit and just the way she approaches things in what she believes is the best course of action. I was not once disappointed with her character, if anything I was just in awe with how... more>> awesome she is.

Highly recommend if you want an independent and strong female character. :) The story isn't super complex or intense, but it's still interesting and gets you hooked. :) <<less

a quick read with an actual plot around the romance. It may has a bit too much plot-twist and the FL had a change of heart a bit too fast but all in all, really nice read.

If you want a short story about romance and a pretty cool FL, here you go :)

The translation is amazing, the plot is alternatively slow or rushed, the characters are nice for a short story. Overall enjoyable, but the style is a bit too flowery for me, the dialogue can be interesting, but the setup takes a while and gets bogged down. HE, and the MC is refreshingly direct, even if predictably OP.

I have to admit Chinese literature is somewhat confusing. There's a lot of idiom, culture, or words that don't have direct translation to another language. When I read this, there's a lot of underlying meaning rather that literal which confuse me greatly. I have to read and think twice or thrice for each sentence that I didn't get cause how subtle it is. It's like a poem (and I don't like poem tbh).

Fortunately, the translation group is very thoughtful for giving readers some footnotes about what it means. That's a... more>> point I'm grateful with. I really wish the longevity of this group, albeit I wish too much, it seems.

For the storyline, it's simple. Less drama, nothing gore, with some smutty and fluffy scene. Well, it's a romance novel, nothing is deep here. Romance novel is meant for feeding human feeling, which in a way, this novel able to deliver some emotions.

I can't say much for the characters. The characters are interesting in each own. I will recommend this for anyone who is above 17 years old for smutty scene (I've read the worst, but there's nothing wrong for a caution). Oh well, this is josei which means my caution is sensible. <<less

Another Jianghu romance. Very satisfying. The FL and ML are just right. Everything gets solved. Not angsty at all. Conversations between FL and ML and other characters are very interesting. Novel is short but sweet. Has been completely translated.

A bit short but overall I loved it. Main leads are likeable and it was quite sweet as well as a little bit of amus**ent at times. I especially like the fact that the female lead was very bold in her actions ;)

It’s a wuxia novel that uniquely sets a female protagonist in a detective-like plot. However, there are also plenty of cute moments, funny anecdotes, and wise quotes. The only downside of “Demoness is Not Evil” is that the story is too short, so the conflict, MC love story and the characters around her are not fully fleshed out and leave the readers wanting for more!
