Yuan Ye and film emperor Fang Shaoyi were married for ten years. After a stamp from the Ministry of Civil Affairs, they got divorced and their red booklets became green booklets. Back when they had gotten married, they had proudly announced the news to the whole world. After their divorce, though, neither dared to speak up, determined to hide this development.

Film emperor gong vs writer shou. Regarding accompaniment, regarding companionship. Regarding those things inseparable and difficult to speak of about affection.

Summarized in one phrase: We were in love for thirteen years, and then we got divorced.

This novel has a special place in my heart. The author did such a great job presenting a complex relationship between the two characters. I truly appreciate that the divorce wasn't some easily writable reason like one of them being a scum cheater or whatnot. I am also glad I came across this in my current age, because I don't think I could give it the appreciation it deserves if I had read this just a couple years earlier. It truly is a gem (Definitely deserves a better rating than... more>> 4.4). I know for sure I will come back to re-read this. I hope more of you give this a chance. <<less

This is a very realistic nuanced complex story.

Multiple times I felt a bit frustrated with the pacing. However, ultimately, being patient with it was the correct choice. I was annoyed it dragged out the reveal of why they divorced - but the novel instead showed, carefully, the problems between them (which had not gone away) and I think this was the right choice, artistically. Similarly I became very frustrated with the ML for being so incredibly close mouthed, but he eventually improves, and having him be like this is part... more>> of the realism of everything that went wrong in their relationship. (Similarly the MC, who takes a very long time to get over his self abnegation).

I ended up fully convinced of why they divorced (not feeling like they were idiots for divorcing) AND fully convinced in their reconciliation and ability to be stronger in the future.

They were a couple with a lot of very real and very realistic problems, problems that felt rooted in personality and value conflicts not just made up melodramatic garbage (there was none of that, they were very mature and understanding in a lot of ways which made their train wreck even more tragic). And at the same time you also felt their love, compatibility, and respect for each other, that didn't feel forced or get lost amidst their problems.

It felt like a truly realistic portrayal of a loving but flawed relationship, how love was absolutely not enough, and then the hard work involved in making it work out anyway.

The side plots are kind of meh, and there's one graphic scene of the aftermath of r*pe of a nameless side character that was quite sickening. This is a work that has quite a bit of darkness and melancholy. But the depth of the main characters and their relationship is A+ and that's the main part of the novel. <<less

This was heart-wrenchingly beautiful precisely because it was realistic. There are no over-the-top complexities and villainous schemes typically seen in entertainment novels. Though there were minor antagonists. Can't really leave those out. This just took on all the realistic aspects in those types of novels, like having a big shot backing a small actor or the industry's attitude of kissing up to the strong whilst bullying the weak.

Loved the dog food. Loved the angst. Honestly perfect balance for me. There were times that I cried big fat tears and times... more>> that I felt so dazed and stuffy that I only got out small tears. MC and ML's banters are hilarious when they need to be, serious when they need to be, and very very gentle when they need to be. I loved seeing how they got to that point and how they got back together.

Wasn't really invested in the second couple because I don't vibe with that trope much but the story never really focused on them so I was cool with that. Don't know if they have an entirely different story. I haven't gotten to their extra yet.

The writing style was beautiful. It's simple but there's just something about it that makes me feel... comfortable? Everytime, I can clearly feel what the characters are feeling. As of now, this is my "I would wipe my memories out after reading just so I can read it again" book.

It's a really good story, I like the way the author explained how things happened, their divorce was necessary at that moment but it was also clear that they still mutually loved each other. In the beginning I thought things weren't going well and I actually panicked a little, so I was extremely happy when they discovered that their love was still alive and strong (maybe even stronger than before) Fan Shaoyi is the male lead - I wasn't expecting this - and he's such a calm person, a great... more>> character, he's one of those people who can put u at easy by just standing there; Yuan Ye is like a child in an adult's body, I'm talking about his way of living (like a little monkey) because he's a mature man in all his actions (especially his professionalism) and he's over sensitive towards FS, he always do everything thinking about what will be the best to FS and his career, he is super cute, I'd laughe the sh*t out of me everytime he opened his mouth. In conclusion, it's an amazing novel, it's my first time reading something like this and I enjoyed so much, I ate so much dog food seeing their love tsk now I need someone do to my skincare for me. <<less

This is the first novel I have read of this author. I will read the tattoo later.

About this book I had a mixed feelings. I was trying to figure out what I was feeling when I was reading. Later I understood that I was feeling rushed to understand the actual plot, until the flashback of MC I understood a bit. One thing I felt that was unnecessary fillers. If the author removed those from the story it would be too short to read though. So, some people could skim those... more>> parts and go on. Most importantly I like the authors fake attacks, to me sometimes I felt very bad vibe of something going to happen but it was nothing just a prank to the readers by the author. Later, it will surprise the readers that unexpectedly happened something when one was not expecting. I felt enlightened truly. This book will give you something if you carry on till the end.

I have read few angsty novel those are pretty deep to the point I wanted to take a break to calm down myself. However, this is too light so, people who thought that it will be unpleasant don't need to worry this is very light angst and sometimes you will enjoy it.

There is another thing I would like to mention that this book is not too hyperbolic & I found it pretty down to earth, realistic. Normal people could relate to it. Which is why I found this book interesting.

MC & ML their characters are interesting. MC is very strong at the same time fragile too. So, I would call it pretentious strong MC but that is his charm, he is too strong for people but his only weaknesses is his love for the ML and vice-versa.

Thank you so much for the book I hope author will continue to work hard. 😇 <<less

I love it! The title is so head-turner I was heartened whenever I read it. I was actually prepared for the angst but I think this is lighter than Tattoo’s. Definitely recommended to read, it was a remarkable story. The translation was great too! 💙

It's refreshing to read about two people with principle, skill, and backbone, who are capable of flourishing individually. This novel contemplates how intentions, love, and expectations may not be enough.

Eventually it is revealed that all the events, even if it may seem a little silly or unnecessary, stem from the desire to maintain and continue a pure, strong love; this is one couple's journey attempting to do so, learning how to nurture a mature love, with hiccups along the way.

Writing wise, this is a stable and well-paced novel, and I... more>> adore the steady and mature developments, with the heartache that comes from earnest intentions.

Overall a very enjoyable read, not a "wow masterpiece" but definitely great and something to reread.

note: I *really* loved yy, he's such a spirited and vibrant person!

Spoiler

I did wish things were easier for him: his experiences chasing fsy were far from fun, and fsy is a bit too stoic. It's clear by the end that fsy really cares for and wants to dote on yy, and I think they recognize the long-standing imbalance

While I finished by reading the raws, I want to chuck kudos at jp for their excellent translation <3 <<less

note: all chapters are on CG but password locked due to recent events (password is on the discord)

This review has gone through a few edits as I read more chapters. It's been a bit of a rollercoaster.

Normally, I try not to comment on the believability or 'toxicity' of a relationship, because I believe there's a difference between fiction and reality and people should be allowed to write what they want freely. However, since the author seems to want this novel to be a realistic one, I'll say it: the... more>> relationship is bad, and most of the issue is the ML.

Although I'm usually not too into divorce-reconciliation type plots, this could've been really good, if it wasn't for the ML. I can't accept this as a "new beginnings, learning from past mistakes" story when the ML behaves the exact same when he was 20 and they were getting together, to when they divorced, to current day when they get back together. He has no character growth, and the extent of his "I need to change and be better" epiphany is just deciding to retire as an actor, which doesn't actually affect him that badly anyway since he's now an old film emperor who needs a vacation. The MC is the one who has to completely change himself, who has to chase the ML to supposedly make up for his mistakes, and who even tries to take all the blame whenever something happens- and the ML lets him.

Some readers think this is ok because he's just being accepting, and he's more into actions than talk. But here's the thing: there's a fine line between being accepting, and being passive, and trying to continue an already rough relationship with action and never using your words rarely works out well in reality. Couples need COMMUNICATION, especially in this case where they already had a falling out. What they need right now isn't silent support, it's to communicate with each other.

Honestly, I would've been perfectly happy with giving this 5* and leaving a completely positive review if it just wasn't for the realism angle. As a basic webnovel, it's really good! The MC is a nonstereotypical "wild and handsome bad boy uncle" character, the side characters are fleshed out, the entertainment industry is more cynical but real than the usual. But because the author is pushing for this to be a realistic commentary on real life relationship, real life celebrities, etc.. I can't ignore the issues that I usually would give a pass for any other webnovel. <<less

Worth Reading.

This novel really grew on me. There is this quiet kind of beauty to it. Especially the main relationship was beautiful. This is one of the more realistic yet a very loving and devoted couple that I have come across in my danmei jouney. My initial impression was good, seems interesting. But later as the story unfolded I got more and more into this couple. The story really makes you think and reflect. Especially when you understand the conflict that caused their divorce because there is no doubt that... more>> these two love each other to the moon and back. But you try to make sense of how it fell apart. Exactly like Fang Shaoyi and Yuan Ye did too in the novel.

The main conflict between them was a little ambiguous and difficult to understand. But I understood the author did it intentionally to show how things build over time and it is not so straightforward. Essentionally
Spoiler

Yuan Ye is extremely principled and honest. But showbiz is a place with a lot of corrupt practices. He deeply disliked these practices. Even though he tried to separate Fang Shaoyi from the dislike he felt towards Showbiz, it got more and more difficult as time passed. They both tried to compromise to make things easier for the other person but ended up making themselves and the other person miserable.

[collapse]

The way these two heal and grow and find their way back to each other is what the novel is about. And it is a wonderful read that will give you a rollercoaster of emotions.

There is a lot of mention of how film making works which I personally enjoyed.

Also, the MC, Yuan Ye is such a badass. I love him!!! <<less

The story looked really promising, the first half was really intense, angsty and filled me with emotions. It was an amazing read.

However, halfway through it became really daunting and boring to read, the story became boring and although their relationship was quite interesting, the plot overall was just not it.

I forced myself through the story and was quite disappointed towards the end because it had so much potential and didn’t meet my expectations.

The same with the characters, YY and FSY started being really interesting as well as their backstory, towards... more>> the end they kinda became a generic couple which made me sad.

TLDR; first half really good, towards the end meh. <<less

I honestly wanted to drop it pretty early but I was so curious about the reason for their divorce that I continued reading, and after it was revealed at last, it felt as if not many chapters were left to read so I just finished it. But frankly speaking it is not my cup of tea.

P. S.: be ready to cry your eyes out closer to the end!

DNF. The reason for the divorce (which is withheld until midway) is cruel and inane. MC gets punished for a mere slip of the tongue. If this is what 10 years of devotion gets you... MC, leave the damn man. Plotline around the ML's acting gigs bored me to tears, and the sole Taiwanese character in the book ends up being the bad guy which I personally found offputting.

It's such gooood and healing story, I recommend reading it slowly so you can enjoy it all day, one of the few stories that u can read again and again even if ur feeling down~. Realistic story like this completely touch ur core but of course it's steel in the category of slice of life so if don't like this category it's better to not waist ur time.

This was the kind of story that I usually avoid reading, only because I prefer to read mindlessly when I do. It isn't difficult to read at all. I just had to pause a few times to think a little more and reflect on my own life.

I think the author tried their best at reconciling big problems that can come with relationships. Rather than focusing deeply on the passionate love aspect, they focus more on the parts about compromise, sacrifice and so on.

This story made me feel like a friend... more>> listening to another person's love life rather than a reader reading another novel, because this story doesn't try to do what you might want or expect it to do (if you know, you know). It won't make everything satisfying and you'll question a lot of the characters' actions, but each character has so much life and personality. They felt, at least to me, a little more real.

This novel felt believable, though not entirely realistic. There's no need for a novel to be grounded in reality or to be believable at all, but it felt refreshing to see a relationship that had struggles beyond miscommunication or external factors. The main pairing, along with the characters, felt flawed and imperfect, and I really appreciated this. I really enjoyed the sour and the sweet.

Although I'm giving this a 5/5, I will say that this probably won't be the novel for everyone and it isn't the most smooth or pleasant read in terms of pacing or instant emotional gratification. I'm giving this a 5 because of my own experience reading this novel. <<less

A mature take on getting back together when there is so much love but personal growth that needs to be done.

Summary: Yuan Ye (MC, shou) is an author and Fang Shaoyi (ML, gong) is a very famous actor. They are childhood sweethearts that were married for ten years and were the CP of the entertainment business. However, unknown to everyone they actually got divorced 8 months ago. But because they had already signed a contract, they went on a variety show for couples. This is the story of how they... more>> get back together.

Ah, this story slowly ripped my heart to pieces. From the beginning, we know that they are divorced but are still very much in love with each other. The journey of this story is them finding out how to be together when it hadn't worked out in the past. I thought it was quite masterful to slowly have the divorce revealed to us. We get glimpses throughout the story and the full reveal only happens a little bit before the climax. And it broke my heart.

As mentioned, the CP are actually madly in love with each other. It's just that there are many differences in values that broke them apart.

Spoiler

The MC is not a fan of the backdoor secrets of the entertainment industry and is very idealistic. After following the ML around for so long, he finally could no longer tolerate it and thought that his beliefs were holding back the ML. The ML is more accepting of these things (his father is also well known) but because his husband didn't like it, he would withdraw from projects.

[collapse]

Established relationships are a bit different because we can feel the love between the characters and since they are older in age (33 and 36), they are mature in all their decisions. It's not like a wildfire but a comforting fireplace. I really did enjoy seeing the evidence of their love. Moreover, I appreciated that the MC and ML don't immediately get back together. Instead, they allow time for the MC to come to terms with himself and his values so that they can fully and completely belong to each other again. The MC actually pursues the ML and it's very sweet

Also the author did such a good job at building up the climax and allowing things to come full circle.

Spoiler

The ML actually made the MC sign the divorce papers because he couldn't bear to see the MC holding himself back and constantly thinking that it wasn't good for them to be together. This really haunts the MC because he can no longer sign things for the ML when sh*t hits the fan and it is fully redeemed when the CP get remarried. Agh the author hurt my soul with this one

[collapse]

I think there's a bit of controversy with the side CP in this novel. I will just say that I think that it serves as a direct foil to the main CP. The side CP have huge age-gap and power imbalance (including BD*M tendencies) but the shou of this one fell in love at the same age as the MC. The author actually leaves them an open ending but I think that it's quite clear the side CP have feelings for each other? But of course, to each their own.

This story definitely revolves around the entertainment industry and it doesn't shy away from the darker parts of it. There is r*pe, sponsors, and just general corruption, but the author doesn't go into too much detail. I think it's done quite tastefully, especially considering how we are seeing it from the MC's POV and the MC doesn't quite understand at the beginning and the ML tries to shield him too. However, the CP truly love each other and I think that it's palpable. I enjoyed reading this story and being taken on a rollercoaster of heartfelt emotions, but I don't think this story is for everyone (as I said, it's a mature take on love and relationships). But if you're up for the angst, you should read this! <<less

I never knew reading a novel with an established relationship could be this interesting, this is such a unique novel with a outlook on relationships that isn't found in other stories. It talks about a couple that has been in a long time relationship and how they learn to love even through differences and difficulties. It also talks about the shady business in entertainment industry (although dramatized) it was nice to see it incorporated into the plot. I loved the characters, loved the fluff, conversations between the main couple and... more>> it was just overall a really good read. I'm glad I gave it a chance!! So the story is about as all said in the comment section, COMMUNICATION PROBLEM

But in my personal opinion I wouldn't completely say that the problem is lack of communication rather it's more like lack of expressing one's true thought! And it's very much true.

When you love someone deeply enough you tend to always think about giving them the best, only sharing happiness and good things, try to hide your problems and discomfort and in the process of giving them the best, you forget yourself also you forget that the person... more>> opposite you is having the same thoughts that you're having!

Sometimes it's important to say "I'm tired" "I'm not feeling happy" "I want you to support me" "Stay by my side" And these kind of a few expressions are more depending than "I love you" these few honest expression proves how much you depend on the other person, how much you believe them, how much you trust them and how much you needed them! <<less

Thank you so much for this novel, I really like it so much and the translations is also very good.

I like the fact that love relationship are so realistic, also the emotions feel so real to me. The personalities of the MC and ML is not stereotypically 2d version, I real the dynamic personality of MC and I also feel like I understand the emotion struggle of the introvert ML through out the novel.

It was painful, especially at the beginning where you could tell that they both still loved each other, but couldn't voice it to the other. The romance was tooth rotting sweet in their youth and as they reconciled. My only complaint would be the ending, which was what brought down my score.
Spoiler

I thought it was a very cliche move to have the male lead get into an accident. It was obvious that due to this accident out of fear ML would propose remarriage. Although, it was heart breaking when the doctor asked for a relative's signature and Yuan Ye could not do it since they were no longer married.
