A genius schemer, creating an emperor!

“Only when your brother is happy can you be happy.”

She committed all kinds of evil deeds to make him Emperor. However, Artezia’s devotion was repaid with betrayal. It was the Grand Duke Cedric, a righteous enemy, that gave her a hand of salvation at the threshold of death.

“Devise a plan.”
“…”
“I can’t think of anyone but you who can reverse this situation. Marquess Rosan.”
“…”
“Lend me your strength.”

There is no plan that can reverse the already declining power and save the fallen empire. However, there is a method. To turn back time before everything went wrong.

With tears of blood she sacrificed her body to an ancient magic. This time, she will not fall.

Artezia, who returned to the age of 18 before death, resolved to become a villainess for the Grand Duke Cedric.

“Please give me your hand in marriage. I’ll make you emperor.”

In exchange for kneeling to the devil, the devil shall dirty her hands for you.

Honestly, started off great. I was in the game to read more, but then it just flatlined *hard*. Too much childcare and "hurr durr im big bad, but I cri". I know what character development is, but like every romance novel, it's just uncanny and forced. I kinda gave up after around c200 and skipped to the ending. Couldn't care less what happened in between, but I can very well guess. So I wouldn't say that I lost anything by skipping those 90 odd chapters. All in all though, the... more>> writing was great, lengthy at times, but also complex enough to be interesting. Definitely deserves the 4 stars. <<less

TLDR Must Read

It's an incredibly good take on the whole 2nd chance/rewind the clock concept. The story may well have the best handling of how someone could exploit having future knowledge to change said future. What's more the writing handles it is absolutely remarkable. The MC goes about her business doing things and the next thing you know is everything is going off around her and you see all the dominoes she put into place come crashing down on the real villains. What's more with few exceptions none of her... more>> enemies are s*upid

Just a very good story. Heavily recommend manga adaptation at mangadex until, the translation catches up. MTL Korean IS ROUGH!!! <<less

?Love this story. The ML is such a gentleman. Well this is an extract from manga:

FL:Why have you been acting so formal with me. Last time you spoke you were much casual.

ML:It not necessary to respect Miralia (FL mother, ML enemy and emperor concubine I guess) daughter, but it only proper for me to be respectful to my future wife.

Oooh he is toooo sweet.

I've never left a review on anything but this was so superb that I couldn't help it. I read it in 24 hours. Didn't sleep or anything because I was so fascinated that I wanted to see how it went.

It was wonderful the way she passively lead them all to destruction. She never particularly schemed against them. Just used their own actions against them. This was truly wonderfully written. The foreshadowing was well done. The tie-ins were nice. I was truly emotionally invested in this.

This is a well-written story but it didn't leave me with awe. The author couldn't find the right balance between romance and plot.

Here are some notes I took while reading:

Spoiler

-In their first meeting if FL broke the wheel intentionally, how did she know that ML would go to the temple that day? Did I miss something?

-Miraila is too petty for this story. I guess it's okay since those people really exist in some ways. She is basically nuts.

-I'm at chapter 40s and the romance levels are quite unsatisfying.

-Lawrence acting mildly good in this timeline. Wow. He stays low because of selfish reasons but wow.

-Chapter 59 was the first kiss huh. Took long.

-Character's saying each other's names between sentences are getting very frequent and annoying. I hope the author realizes this problem.

-Chapter 110: FL and ML got separated for so long and seems like it's gonna stay like that a while. I mean the story getting very mild at this point. Before that, they weren't together often either. I'm cutting one whole star because of this. I hate long separations.

[collapse]

Dropping this on 121 bc I don't even remember who is who anymore and there is not even a crumb of romance. Bye. 2, 5 STARS <<less

I really love this story. I knew this from manhwa. Then, I read the novel. The novel gave us much deeper understanding to the character and sight to the story. For example fl's brother and mother. They were much interesting and not some s*upid antagonists whose goals are simply to be stepping stone (imo).

I love how author make this story to be dark by making characters with gray moral, including fl. She was villainess; full tricks and manipulations. An anti hero whose hands were dirty. She didn't suddenly change to... more>> be good person just because she' was reborn.

The ML also wasnt the usual domineering ceo that push and abuse fl. He respected her. He's such a puppy. From spoiler, when they had s*x on this book, it's all consensual. Not those dubious r*pe. When FL pregnant, they actually talked. He also wasnt s*upid. He knew FL and the very aware of her secrets and manipulations. (Tho, I dont know how much he knew coz I dont read that far yet). He trusted and supported her so far. He's the opposite of our fl; a rightious hero. Both of them complimented each other.

This novel is heavy towards politics and power struggle, spoiler said. So if you want those flowery and happy story full of dog food, I dont recommend this novel.

So yeah. I really love this novel so much. It's one of my most favourite novel/manhwa. Now I'm waiting for this to be completely being translated. It's my most favourite novel/manhwa <<less

Novel of contradictions. In ways other novels use implausible events in convenient ways as plot armor, this novel uses it to strum up fake and unnecessary drama. What the story is sounds extremely pleasant, and the way it verses off from cliche writing makes me want to really like it. Problem is it still uses those cliche situations just in the opposite way than everyone else, but that is still a cliche...

Spoiler

Main character is a damsel in distress that is honestly pretty worthless, yet she can pick and decide who it is that will be emporer. One of the largest plot points is that once shes dead or disabled its all over and nothing can be changed. Still she supposedly can basically play god but can't figure out how to not walk face first into a wall (protect herself or at least make it difficult to harm her), which she does rather consistently. Entire novel is about her going from evil to good and not making same mistakes again, yet she was betrayed and disposed of because she is physically worthless. Not once has she actually shown even a splinter of will to actually better herself.

She is meant to be this ruthless monster, yet she is constantly panicking like headless chicken running in circles. When the first character with actual memories shows up novel just became utterly garbage after being forced to read horrible drivel of "romance" that is just dumb. Constantly being told she can't love or be with him then being forced to read the same stuff about struggling over and over and over and over and over...

Main characteris basically a mass of contradictions. So everything just becomes tedious.

So I read the manhua first and I like Tia here. She is like the epitome of a villainess she even surpases Aria from reverse hour glass. Her wits and schemes are superb from first timeline and most probably till the second. She is a great strategiest, I just felt bad that her brother is ungreatful and what he did to her was too painful to see in webcomic. She is basically the badass villain, she doesn't pretend to be a white lotus bish to gather favor instead she is... more>> Stoic, void of emotion and has many knives hidden under her sleeves. The ML complements her, since she is the one doing dirty tricks, ML supported her for their common goal and cares for her. So far it is a recommended novel to read, will not regret it. <<less

THIS IS SO FAR THE BEST ROFAN KOREAN WEBNOVEL THAT I'VE READ

Unlike other novels that have so so politics to spice up their romance story, politics in this novel became the main plot with romance that spice it up (but the romance is not lacking I swear). So far this is the novel that has the most elaborate politics and power struggle in it, so it might be a little heavy to read, in fact this isn't a movel that I could read in one sitting, I have to take... more>> a break in between. But trust me you won't regret reading it. The author is a genius who could think all of this realistic and complex politics and power struggle.

Okay enough about politics. Let's talk about the romance. The romance is exceptionally good, the chemistry between the FL and ML is so good, their love grow in a perfect pace, not too soon and not too long. The FL is a master of scheme, and she's not the "i turned back time so now I have all the knowledge to be genius" kind of FL. She is already a genius mastermind from her first life, and when she turn back the time of course she have the advantage of turning back the time, but she changed her strategy completely, starting all over again, and tried to reach different outcome. She's a villainess through and through, no sugarcoating, she's willing to go against morality to gain something. When the ML is a good guy, he's by no mean a s*upid guy. He's an open minded man who knows when he can stick to his principles and when he needs to go out of his comfort zone. I love how their relationship grows, how they're dealing with their feelings, with each of them having their own problem and circumstances. They both really complete each other.

Not only the main characters, the other characters also has depth in them. They aren't just characters to fill the story, but they each have purpose, goals, desire, personality, that are consistent throughout the story. The antagonist is not someone that simply dislike the FL and ML or someone with attitude problem, they're smart opponents that have different view and objectives with our main character. So I really enjoy reading the power struggle between them.

This novel have all that it needs to be a good novel, good plot, good characters, good world building. I wonder how the author could wrote such a brilliant story, I feel like there's no unnecessary scene, every scene has meaning.

Sometimes the translation is a bit confusing but it's okay. <<less

Very well written and well executed premise. The tropes used are done well.

Both ML and FL are complexly written. The FL in particular is very morally grey. The antagonists and side characters are also given their own interesting plotlines and morality

A bit light on romance and very heavy on intricate political machinations and strategy.

Would highly recommend to fans of political romance fantasy!

Probably one of the best K-webnovels I've ever read. The characters are clever, their actions ruthless and the plot and pacing incredibly intriguing. The fan translations are some of the best I've read and they do a fantastic job. If you're looking for a smart isekai or Villainess read with complex characters and world-building, you should definitely try this out.

Damn good story with a solid plot, and a (really) smart MC not just because of the author claims so. Though the MC was a real villainess, but she received her due punishment before regressing, and as the story plays you would get to like the MC and understand where she's coming from, so 10/10.

The translation is really bad, though.

This. This is amazing.

I've gone ahead of myself and looked up spoilers for this novel just because it's so good. I love the dynamics between the ML and the MC, and the plot is so complex and well-paced.

I love the depth of the characters, and how even if they were (for example) villains, the author shows you where they're coming from which makes them so much more human and relatable.

... more>> Can't wait to read the rest!

My only gripe is that this has 300+ chapters so I have to wait a bit longer for the translations to come out :) <<less

I like her. Almost ranking next to, Villainess Turns Hourglass.

They're similar in a way that they're both wicked especially when it is needed. People don't get it that ruthlessness is essential in most cases in nobility when it comes to survival.

She had ordered people killed before. And she's not afraid to dirty her hands again. It's not just some random scheming tho she didn't really did the killing herself.

... more>> War is war.

And blood is needed. She depicts that sense of ruthlessness and "villainess" that is necessary for better results.

Unlike other villainess story who props herself up to be kind and change all of a sudden. She reveals another side of danger that is akin to a woman which adds more 'realistic' view to the whole story.

Love it. Thanks for publishing it. <<less

So far it's good. I'm not gonna go over the details how god this book is as thi already has a ton of good reviews already and what I wan to say was mostly in accordance with them, I totally agree.

MY BIG PROBLEM with this book is the translation. There are really instances where you can't understand what's going on in the translation. Sometimes the pronouns and indicators was not translated properly. Sometimes a 'he' becomes a 'she' and the title of the characters sometimes where misuse. There are instances... more>> where I can't really know what's going on and for a korean novel, it sometimes tries to imitate the way Jnovels were made like it's just conversation after conversation without any indicator of whose saying, the reader usually just guess, which is very irritating. That only frustrates me, I still gave this book a 5 star as it's the translation team incompetence and not the writer itself. <<less

It's pretty good, though the translation at times made it a bit hard to understand/get into.

However, the story itself is really quite worth it.

The MC is really super OP, but the story is set up in an incredibly skilled manner where even her foreknowledge doesn't necessarily remove the tension and risk from the plot, which led to a really great and unpredictable progression; definitely kept me on my toes.

The opponents are not idiots, they also have their considerations and schemes in the process. All of the villains had redeeming or... more>> pitiful qualities; they really feel strangely understandable even if deplorable at times. There are tons of factions in this novel and each of them have their own goals and schemes that the MC has to navigate.

ML is really impressively complex with a very unique character architype quite rare in novels. He's also intelligent and OP in his own right, but

Spoiler

he's like a genuinely kind, believes-in-humanity, good leader but because he's so upright/morally ethical and righteous, it also makes other characters underestimate him and his faction. He's also the underdog

his character gains a lot of depth due to certain things early-mid novel

[collapse]

One of the most touching points in the novel for me actually happened to an NPC

Spoiler

One of the opposing faction NPCs was raised essentially to be a "brainless but good" lady, but her move at the end was simply stunning. I teared up

[collapse]

Anyway, there are endless things to love about this novel.

The translation was all right, it's understandable and the grammar is mostly okay, but I think a higher level would have really made this novel shine. <<less

Ok this is my first ever review and it's only cos of the ML... I read any other story and even the most perfect MLs have some annoying quality which the author gaslights into it not being a red flag. But Cedric? HE'S LITERALLY PERFECT?! He's a walking green flag please! He's a good guy but that doesn't make him boring. On the contrary, it makes him super complex.

The character development of the FL and ML is *chef's kiss*!

My only complain is that it was too long to read in... more>> one sitting lol... But honestly the world building, the political intrigue and the FLs abused characterization is mind blowing. One of the best novels I read here. <<less

Im exhausted. With all those politics. It was not recommended to read this in one sitting. Take a break and breathe its not healthy for my mental health. This is really good series. Highly recommended 👍 just that for someone like me, who gets easily affected, you need to take a breath in between.

The author is so big-brained for thinking up all the big and little plots for this series. They are so well done. It's like reading a step-by-step explanation for an elaborate game of multi-player 3D chess. Love how the characters are written and brought to life. There is slow romance but so worth it. ML is to die for and by that I mean, I /will/ die for him, hes that hot ("he's a 2D character. How can u know?" trust me, I can tell!!)

It's incredible and mind-blowing.

FL was starving for familial love and acceptance. Whenever she was betrayed, she accepts it as her retribution. She believes that she has done too many evil deeds and that she's the centre of all evil.

Spoiler

Really... she's been brainwashed by her despicable mother who was always degrading her saying that she's ugly and evil. So I guess that's how she saw herself explicitly. It's actually very heartbreaking... especially when she feels that she doesn't deserve love --- whether being loved by others or loving others~

[collapse]

Humankind is fascinating. As we delve deeper into one's feelings and thoughts, we are able to sympathyse... be it good or bad~

Anyway, I think the author did really well in how the FL and ML (and other characters) are portrayed. They tolerate, compromise, and change according to the circumstances and situations they face.

At first, ML seems perplexing to me. He's too good and kind. But then, as the story progresses, we can see that he's no saint.

Spoiler

He just hasn't found a greater reason to find other paths before. Once he has something to protect with all his life..... that's when all the plans deviate.

[collapse]

I really really want to read more... ㅠㅠ <<less
