After 10 years of dedicating his life to opera ever since he had quit the performing arts high school, he had failed at an interview. Losing his motivations, Jo Yunjae depended on alcohol to live out his days until one day, he had been sent back 20 years in time, to the day before his high school admission.

The reason for his time travel nor the terrible condition his body was in did not matter to him. The one and only, most important thing was that he could still sing, not as the previous baritone but as a long-coveted tenor.

While having read only 6 chapters may be too early to tell, this novel managed to hook me from the start. No prior experience in opera needed! The protagonist will be your teacher.

The author's love and interest in music is clearly reflected by this single-minded MC who values the talents of the people he surrounded himself with. It's also hilarious to read about his interactions with his peers, as an older brother/old uncle kind of person.

I love hardworking MCs, and it's the icing on the cake when said MC has... more>> a little something that makes him unique and a cut above. He's really talented, and perhaps a genius in his own right (just that his potential wasuwas in his previous life). Even then, he remains humble and underplays his genius-like actions in the name of experience.

Characterization is underway, and I like how the MC and the other characters are being fleshed out. I look forward to how the novel unravels!

Genius of a Performing Arts High offers an immersive look into the world of opera from the perspective of a time traveling singer. The premise of a modern vocalist regressing to his youth with musical knowledge beyond his peers sets up an engaging coming-of-age story.

The novel excellently depicts the hard work and passion that goes into honing one's singing abilities. As the main character mentors his friends and competes in various performances, you get a vivid glimpse of the effort it takes to succeed in the arts. The musical details... more>> feel authentic thanks to the author's careful research.

This accuracy does come with a trade-off, however, as the extensive operatic descriptions slow down the pacing at times, especially for readers unfamiliar with the genre. But the musical numbers are written with enough skill that they remain enjoyable.

Surrounding the riveting performances is a gentle slice-of-life tale as the lead builds relationships with his fellow students. The characterization benefits from having mature adult perspectives and motivations.

Unfortunately, the heartwarming camaraderie ventures into uncomfortable harem territory on occasion. Developing close friendships is fine, but romantic undertones with teenagers crosses a line for a mentally 40 year old protagonist.

Still, if you can overlook those questionable elements, Genius of a Performing Arts High transports you into a vibrant world of music and growth. The story eloquently captures the joys of honing one's craft and bonding through shared passions. Opera fans will especially appreciate the meticulous details, not that I am one lol. <<less

I would of usually skipped those type of novel but I gave it a try and now I had been sad that it stopped. Having no prior knowledge of singing and opera, it has made me give a profound interest in, so much that I'm currently looking for a tutor to help with with singing, especially one that has opera experiences. It's very informative for one that has no knowledge about it, like me, and also for people who do, reading some of the reviews, so you know that... more>> effort and passion the author put to make it realistic, informative, and entertaining. While it does occasionally have a sliver of romance going on with the other characters, it's main point is through the improvements the MC makes after going back time and the competition between other characters through events. <<less

So, I am not a singer myself and I have never went to an Opera in my life but this novel is like a gem that shines green rather than those general blue or red ones. It is beautiful piece of Art, well if you are appreciative, you will definitely appreciate. I also have a lot of downs about this novel as well but I can't put them as easily as these ups, story is rather beautifully done, I just hate that 'Hiatus' mark, it is infinite hiatus actually, apparently... more>> translater dropped it. But I am also not that much interested that I will search for MTL or any other sites. Just like how a beautiful piece of art is supposed to be appreciated from far behind, I am also doing that, it is beautiful but it is something I can't touch and put my finger on its pros and cons easily. Have a Good read if this rang a bell and also after reading this novel that I got to know about real Opera behind all the stuff that hides it. <<less

I don't usually like reading things that are slow and have less events but the writing in this one is really great. The translators really did a great job.

At first I thought it was boring so I didn't bother reading it but when I got on the mood to read I immediately realized that this is really one of the best writings ever.

I’ve always loved classical musics, but I never truly understood opera. I just thought it was nice to listen to for drama. However, this story allowed me to reignite my love for classical music and learn more about what opera truly is. As I read the story, the slow pace is well deserved. The characters are fleshed out and genuine, and the MC’s mindset is wonderful. He’s not arrogant with confidence and he’s hardworking. I wish I can provide a better review, but previous reviews have said it all. Thank... more>> you to the author and translator. It is a great read. <<less
