A White Lotus Host Who Does Not Want To Be a White Moonlight is Not a Good Host

Bai Lianhua looks just like his namesake, a white lotus.

So it’s probably inevitable that a system came for him.

System: come, my dear host Bai Lianhua, please live up to your name, and with your white lotus aura that is dazzlingly divine, save those antagonists who have led tragic lives and who are to stand against the world in the future.

Bai Lianhua: …Wait, it isn’t my fault my name is like that.

Before, Bai Lianhua thought this would have been the most excruciating thing to happen to his life, until all his missions were completed, and he’s happy and excited to go home. His system which had always been acting cute wipes his face handsomely, and then gives him a mystifying smile, “in fact, my real name is Return System of White Moonlight.”

#Apparently, white lotus and white moonlight are great as a combo#

So, this was actually an all-in-one service featuring white lotus + white moonlight? The missions he thought he had completed were just the preludes to his missions to follow?

And so, after having acted as a white lotus waving brilliantly in the wind, Bai Lianhua will have to return to his previous worlds, as that white moonlight that never went away in each of the antagonists’ minds, and resave the world from their clutches.

Bai Lianhua: Wait! System, come back! Explain to me why all my missions failed after I left, and why all those guys who I had painstakingly dragged back into the righteous path still went awry!

Mr. Antagonist: Hm? What’s the problem? I’m really happy with this——Now I finally have the power to take this white lotus from the pond, and nurture it well within a vase [takes a fresh white●lotus in his hand, playing with it gently]

Bai Lianhua: …! [Like the small white lotus, shaking pitifully in the wind]_(:з」∠)_

If the system lied to you, don’t despair, don’t cry, please stay as quiet as a flower, and be a stretch of pure white moonlight.

From the start I came into this story thinking MC is the protagonist, MC is the seme, MC is a white lotus.

i sort of had the idea that he would be super smart and cunning, because what white lotus KNOWS he’s a white lotus? But nope. This dude is actually a huge pushover. Instead of explaining to his target that “I actually care about you bro. My system was just being a huge dick, ” he stays silent instead because the “ML wouldn’t believe [him] anyway.”
There’s a tag that... more>> reads “clumsy love interest” so I was expecting an adorkable uke our protagonist would have to bring to the light, but nope.

ML is extremely possessive and set in his own ways. If he doesnt want to hear from you, he will literally use his abilities to shut you up so you can’t speak, sooooo absolutely zero communication. ? it was super annoying tbh, but what got me was in the end
Spoiler

when they were finally dying of old age. ML is all like “yeah I knew you were actually a good person, but I didn’t want to watch you die before me, so I did this. Lol my bad, still not sorry thooo??”

[collapse]

????

The system is annoying too. Not only is he useless,
Spoiler

but he pretty much caused the target (ml) to blacken and, thus, forced the MC to have to go back to that world to be abused by him for literally no fault of his own. Did the system apologize? No. He just pushed the blame on the host by saying - well all the problems in the next worlds were all Mc’s fault looollll!! ???.

[collapse]

Not sure if I want to continue this one, but if I come back sometime in the future I’ll make sure to add to this review. <<less

This is not a particularly splendid or enthusing novel, but it's one that kept my attention the whole time when I read through it in one go. The worlds get more interesting and more heartfelt later on, and the settings might be bland but it's still sweet and fluffy nonetheless. It's worth checking out (and I'm not just saying this because I'm the translator trying to rope you in for views, hehe)

You read one arc, you've read them all. MC stays the same, react the same to all of them because the system seals his memory after every arc. Just change the ML's name and they're all the same person, not in a good way. They all say what they want, do what they want, assume what they want with no necessary input needed from MC. MC might as well be a plastic doll with how passive he his. He has no will of his own because he has zero control... more>> over ML or the system. The most boring story I've ever read and I've read over 100+ transmigration stories. <<less

I should've known this wouldn't be my cup of tea from the summary. I'm too angry because of both the ML's foolishness and unfaithfulness, and the MC's cowardice. Does he really have to rely on the system for su*cide? And the system, my god. That's a recurring character, I don't think I can take it's manipulative presence in the upcoming arcs, even if they are better than this dumpster fire first arc.

At the very least, I expected the seme protagonist tag to mean he wouldn't have a crappy possessive alpha-male... more>> yandere after him and just take it like the delicate flower he's allegedly not.

Hah, maybe the following arcs are better. I'll forget about this for a year and come back to see if its true. <<less

It is good specially if you are tired of abusive as*hole x victim or mutually abusive relationship of yandere x manipulative fake white lotus and just want to skip most of the drama and jump to the reunion part, just better skip the first arc its like the worst so far and even the author sort of said it in their author notes. Also extra kudos for the translator thats also translating those notes and that there its the option to mouse over to see more elaboration on certain terms... more>> and idioms.

If you are looking for xxx scenes, you will be dissapointed its all mentions of that they did dual cultivation, where life partnes, etc.

Really the ML (I am assuming is the same person in the settings) can truly teach lessons to the yanderes that only know how to abuse and imprison their beloved in how to guilt them into staying with them of their own volution, with the exception of the first arc, really better skip it.

Spoiler

After realising this, Bai Lianhua feels like trembling... Why does it feel like the antagonist is going to conquer his route?

Oi oi oi, you've got it wrong!

He asks the system secretly with disbelief, "what is happening? Why do I feel like I'm trapped deep in the antagonist's schemes?"

Influencing through gentleness? Forgiving and making light of everything? Antagonist, what are you doing stealing all my tropes! Are you trying to make me lose my job here?

[collapse]

Also it took a while to notice but its so great it did, that the story does not keep telling over and over and over how beautiful the MC and ML are, really did not miss it, at all. <<less

The MC has no EQ at all. He goes through a world, falls in love with ML, spends a life with him and then when the system seals his emotions he says, why'd you seal my memories? Nothing happened. It's so s*upid! And the plot might as well be nonexistent with how much it's referenced.

This is nice but the way the problem/conflict resolved is too easy...

Maybe it'll change in future chapters, but from what I read, the flow is a static;

MC return > found out ML blackened > MC stays with ML until the end of their lives (*) > mission accomplished

*) just that, MC didnt need to do fancy coaxing/reasoning/anything. He just agreed to stay with ML > time skip > next world

Tl;dr Mild story. Good to pass time but not memorable

Ok so I almost didn't read this because of the reviews. Don't get me wrong, I get where they (other reviewers) are coming from, but for me, the story is... I guess unpretentious in the best way? It doesn't try to be something it's not. It clearly tells you it's about a white lotus returning to various worlds to be a white moonlight. And honestly, it delivers. It's a sweet story about a good person opening his heart to someone who adores him unconditionally.

If you're looking for face-slapping, you're better... more>> off going to another QT novel. The MC may not be the smartest, strongest, etc., but they're certainly the kindest and, IMO, the most down-to-earth. He's so refreshingly normal in that he only needs a computer, the internet, and basic life necessities to be happy with himself and his life. Like, honestly, same? And I get other people's complaints about how he's super passive in every world but I personally think his reactions are reasonable.

Because, for one thing, the System always gives him a relatively "weak" body/terrible stats in every world so that he can be a "true" white lotus, while his targets are often... Like, OP. Of the potentially world-threatening variety. And he's also constrained by the logic of the world he's in and his character settings. These factors combined often give him little to no options other than passively waiting and seeing what happens next. In all honesty, it's how the average person would react. After all, not everyone can be a exemplary high IQ genius, you know?

So considering all of this, I decided to give it 5 stars to up the current average rating even though I think it actually deserves 4 stars. If you like silly, sweet, but nice MC's and are tired of overbearing ML's, then this novel might be a breath of fresh air for you, so give it a try. <<less

I want the arcs to be longer so badddd. I find the worlds interesting and not cliche like in most QT novels. You usually can predict which worlds are gonna be there and what roles the MC and ML are gonna play. In this one you don’t. At least I didn’t.

The biggest problem for me is the author not putting enough in the present time (as the MC crosses over for the 2nd time). I wish it was developed more. I wish to know the antagonist better. Let me feel... more>> the angst, make me feel distressed for what happened to him at some degree, *a tiny degree*. I didn’t really feel it. because it’s so quick and short.

The novel held my attention, I enjoyed it. But sometimes I didn’t feel like the arc was enough so I would fantasize about somethings that could happen when I had feee time.

The translator is doing those daily updates, and I don’t know how. So, thank you for your effort. <<less

What an adorable story! I love the way everything is tied together in the end - I found myself excitedly rehashing the container story to everyone who would listen.

The mini stories are also really cute - each had very little angst and a predictable beginning, middle, and end. I thought the stories were rather creative and entertaining, and I loved how the antagonist always drops everything to make the white lotus happy.

There aren't very many heavy themes in the story, but that doesn't mean there aren't some great lessons.

One of... more>> the take aways is that love is work; and the slow love that stems from a friendship can be just as intense and rewarding (maybe even more rewarding) than the instant love-at-first-sight so many other romances love to glamorize.

I also love how the stories emphasize that evil/bad people are often victims of their circumstances, and might be saved given a genuine helping hand. This isn't universally true of course, but it's probably more true than not.

Finally, I like the refreshingly simple idea that good acts can be rewarded. I know this isn't always the case, but it's such a nice idea to promote. While there's a tendency for "great literature" to be about lives where the worst happens, I don't see why fiction can't be used to fictionalized reality for the better. I've always enjoyed those stories better anyways.

I don't think this story is very realistic, but I'm so happy and caramelized with its sugary sweetness that I don't care. <<less

I read to the end of the first arc. It's so short and was a bit frustrating because of ML behavior made me want to drop this book somehow or another. (He's so annoying with his: I give you my body for longevity, but in the end didn't and still have the face to say he didn't want to see MC die first or whatever.) Anyway, I have more expectations on later arc as to what the author said, the first arc is just the start for her writing, but... more>> the later arc will get better. I hope so.

Edit: I saw that someone said in the above review: the ML went from good to bad?
Spoiler
[collapse]
He's not good though? From the start he already blackened, but he was saved halfway by MC and turned for the better, but when MC left and he knew the truth, his blackened self resurfaced. That's all. I mean, before he met MC he already blackened. That's the point. <<less

The white moonlight system arcs are quick and bland. It's like skipping all the drama and going straight to the follow up conclusions. I won't say it's bad. It's someone's cup of tea, but I find it tepid. It would had been more thrilling if his adventures as the white lotus were written instead.

Some readers might find the arcs repetitive and quickly become bored. But I assure you this story is a nice read ❤️❤️ Once you got to the ending, you will understand why the MC seems to be not feeling anything, why MC needs to do another 'white moonlight' missions after being a 'white lotus' etc ☺️ I personally feel this story is worth reading for a light read, no need to use much thinking at all, just leisurely reading the story until the ending ??

I think this story had potential. Except none of the characters in the first arc are likeable and the setting was bland.

The ML is unreasonable (he literally forces the MC and doesn't let him even attempt his poor explanations)

The MC is a MAJOR pushover that just goes with the flow and has the personality of a cardboard cutout with the IQ to match it.

... more>> And oh boy.. Oh boy.. The system almost made me vomit blood in anger. This system pits its host in the most ruthless ways.

10/10 read if you want to be annoyed during the first arc. Maybe things get better later on but for now since I'm risking internal injuries holding back my anger just reading less than 10 chapters I think i'll pass on seeing the rest for now. <<less

If you're tired of controlling, yandere, forceful MLs, this is the balm to your P-A-I-N!!

Even though the ML is a villain with yandere tendencies, he truly treats the MC well, never ever ever runs roughshod over the MC's choices or emotions. He actually displays the "real" emotion of love/caring which is NOT locking up your lover and manipulating them into doing what you want-- it's caring about their happiness and RESPECTING their choices.

Thus, the alternate title of this story is: How to Be Yandere Yet Still Be R-E-S-P-E-C-T-F-U-L to Your... more>> Partner!

Really a very refreshing read (plus seme-MC very cute).

I wouldn't expect too much from this otherwise. MC is very simple, very literally kindhearted/boring/white-lotus character. This is a good casual read, just be warned that it can get a bit slow at times.

Fantastic translation. <<less

Okay it's not bad. But it does have some striking drawbacks. Firstly let me say that the fact that MC is top makes me ecstatic okay. Even if there's literally not a single ambiguous scene and most people probably just took MC as bottom, knowing the author also wants MC as top makes me happy. Power bottom!!!!!!!! General, emperor, demonic cultivator etc etc; behind-the-scenes bottom!!! Why is it that the only QT BL that has a seme top doesn't have the SLIGHTEST bit of innuendo :' (Pure shounen ai... more>> smh

Anyway, *cough*, let's be serious. Theoretically speaking, I like the idea, but this execution was a bit of a flop. For these world-hopping stories with short arcs to depend heavily on a backstory, like this novel, is quite a disadvantage. To begin with it's so short, and then half of it ends up being the story setup / backstory of the first time MC entered the world, which is summary. It makes the actual present moments less important overall. That said, you could also argue this means author really cuts all the filler to deliver plot, but I don't really agree that's the most enjoyable way to read a story. A better way to combine important backstory with worldhopping imo is Scum Shou Survival Guide. The second key drawback imo is that it's way too overdramatic loool. All these MLs utter heart-rendering words of love like it's nbd, and although it's considered not badly written, the sheer amount accumulated throughout the novel just makes me want to cringe LOL. Also, sidenote, the "deathbed conversations" where the pair finally confess to each other makes absolutely no sense in my mind. Firstly, after so many years, very little people would keep remembering these small things in favour of the other memories that build up. Secondly, they didn't confess at all throughout the lifetime?????? And left it to be a romantically moving moment when they've grown old and about to pass on?????? Uh, alright. Sure.

And it's like the 6th world yet the MC is STILL surprised every time that ML is deeply in love and MC is STILL unsure and confused about spending time with him in the early stages. It's happened 6 times!!! When you promise ML affections and then treat him as a good friend, why are you surprised that something seems weird????

The really great thing that I appreciate about this story is that all these MLs might be characteristic of yanderes and yet they cherish MC such that they're unwilling to hurt him even in the slightest. MC's wishes and whims are always prioritized and met. The bad thing about this is that it means there's really hardly any conflict, usually just a misunderstanding resolution. Well, the overall background story / connection of the MLs seems interesting though. <<less

The MC is being sent back to worlds he has already transmigrated to, and in some cases he died in those worlds, making it very suspicious that he managed to come back to life.

It adds an extra layer of spice because he's not discovering a new world and a new plot, he's going into a situation he's already familiar with, only to discover certain things have changed drastically while he was gone, such as the ML going from a good guy to a bad guy.

I knew this wouldn't be my cup of tea, but I was hopeful.

•the system: I personally don't like the system to be a "comedic relief " I prefer the non-sentient type of system if any.

•mc: I don't like his lack of communication with the ml, like you have a mouth use it. Plus the emotional seal or whatever was a no-no for me, I wanted to see him dealing with his own emotions.

Ml: so far haven't seen much of his actual personality, but I like that he hadn't used r*pe... more>> or anything like that on the mc

Overall it was okay, but it does get repetitive and boring after 3rd arc. Giving it a 2 star since I hate systems like this and due to lack of communication <<less

Bai Lianhua “... ”

Except for those response and talking in his head, you can actually count by one hand each and every single response the MC had to say talking to people. Seriously, can he just answer like a normal person instead of talking in his own head or come complaining to the system?

I actually admire the mls for understanding (or more likely misunderstanding) his silent response tbh. Getting sick of those three ellipses man. Just answer with your word what the heck.

Few chapters per arc, so story does not drag. In every arc, MC enters the world for a second time. So ML already loves MC but blackens when MC "dies". The novel is about MC falling for different sides of the ML. Extras is about the real world.

The thing is, the entire novel is almost about MC and ML. Other characters are absent for majority of the story. It makes the story monotonous.

Overall, a decent read. Translation is good. Wish there were more dialogues.
