Regaining the memories of his previous life, Cyril realised that he was an otome game’s character, the villainous daughter– Sophia’s butler.

At the rate things were going, Sophia would eventually have the prince stolen away from her by the heroine, fall into darkness, and be executed.

Wanting to save the villainous daughter he was so fond of, Cyril moved to eliminate all the factors that would cause her to fall into darkness, raising her up to be a talented and beautiful girl who could win the prince’s love, however…

Great story considering the target audience

It's a given that everyone in a shounen/shoujo is an absolute 1-in-a-millenium genius, so what matters isn't whether they can complete the task: everyone knows Goku will defeat his next enemy one way or another; what matters is how they go about accomplishing it and this novel does it well

As the protagonists, both hero and heroine possess genius talents: they have unyielding stamina, tremendous magic, 4D chess foresight, and the ability to master whatever it is they're learning within short periods of time; everyone else... more>> pales in comparison, especially prior geniuses. This by itself would be a turn off for people not realizing that this is shounen work, not seinen, it'd be akin to complaining that Saitama from One Punch Man is too strong which is s*upid because that's the entire point of the story.

This novel's strong point is its focus on politics. It's unrealistic to expect such capabilities from mere 12 year olds, and the novel is basically contradicting itself by claiming that they're merely a bunch of kids yet assigning incredible weight to their words. Indeed, it'd have been much better if they're designed as older than that because while it's possible to suspend disbelief, author shouldn't make it harder to do so.

But back to the topic: politics. Most of the story is basically detailing the protagonist's political maneuvering in a desperate attempt to appease his master, and the ramifications of his actions. As befitting of political theme, every minute detail bears a hidden meaning, and most of the novel is basically explaining these hidden meanings in detail, perhaps a bit too detailed for a casual reader, but I think it's what sets this novel apart. This is not the novel you go to for sweet fluff, have a look at this when you want something a bit more serious, but without heavy topics like mu*der or broken home.

And shoo those feelings of "isn't this guy just too OP" off your brain. Just... keep it away. It helps a lot <<less

Solid story with an untypical (albeit still isekai) premise. I rate it highly because the story is well-written with side characters that have, so far, felt like actual characters with strengths and flaws and room for growth, rather than like cardboard.

For me, the biggest hook of this novel are the interactions. Every sentences are one with meaning and the POV takes time to guide you in what is happening. I guess it appears deep to me since I've never really been exposed to conversations beyond shallow small talk. It explores the concept of double meaning and subtlety in everyday talk very well, or at least that's how it seems to an idiot like me.

Another aspect I love about this novel is Cyril's complete devotion to Sophia. Almost every single action... more>> he takes are for her and her alone. Although sadly he still doesn't realize just how extremely infatuated she is with him. It's funny how he is so committed to her happiness when he can just do things that will make her the happiest girl in the world. I understand his aversion to putting Sophia in situations that will undermine her status and authority but damn just f*ck already lol this extremely long foreplay is making me hot and bothered

Okay the real reason I like this novel is Sophia's love and jealousy. I'm so lonely god <<less

The main character has his priorities and sticks to them. He's rational and surprisingly, he's not dense. He knows when other female characters are attracted to him, and isn't completely oblivious like the trend of other Japanese-novel characters with similar traits (i.e. Rational, calm, intelligent). It's really quite refreshing to read.

Honestly I would say this is the most well planned novel I've ever read. It had a goal, it knew what it wants to do and just focus on it, it had enough world building that it didn't feel too bare boned, it didn't over expand to many other things, it spoils enough info that readers don't feel lost but make the story too predictable.

You can see where the author is going, where the author skipped on the world building, where the author decide to focus their time. Like you... more>> get these subtle double speak and word dance, and it's really interesting (if you're interested with them).

And it have these kind of mixed storyline. Where it used part of the supposed story from the game to make an entirely new story. <<less

Good, but it's bluntly uncanny how similar the setting is to Akuyaku Reijo Ni Koi Wo Shite. Butler protagonist of the otome villianess with a burgeoning romance and all.

Given the other series was published 4 years before this one, this kind of feels like plagiarism.

But whatever, I loved Akuyaku Reijo Ni Koi Wo Shite and this is like a watered down version of that. So it might not be quite as good, but it's still really good.

Interesting enough with enough twist on some standard plots to keep the characters interesting, and non one dimensional.

MC also isn't totally oblivious, but not all knowing so it's still realistic in it's worlds setting.

Our MC was originally an adult in his previous world, so I don't doubt his intelligence. But our FML is a super genius as she was able to broker a deal with her father at age 8 and is now manipulative enough to affect our MC. The problem is that this change came out of nowhere at end of volume 2.

I enjoyed the story till volume 2, but now it is too frustrating for me to continue reading volume 3.

Yeah I liked the story a lot in the beginning, the MC aint no bit*h the female lead aint no bit*h but all the bullsh*t about the faction stuff is so fking annoying like so because the Sophia is going to the other party's tea party it immediately means she's on their side, and the other kids are also pretty annoying like the prince and especially the commoner leader one like bro stfu, but yeah those are just my problems the story is pretty nice although it gets sidetracked a... more>> bit its still good <<less

It was great at first, but gradually it became very troublesome. Hidden intentions everywhere, whatever they want to do turns out to have double meaning making reading very dreary, and everyone joining a faction bc of tea™ is too ridiculous, sorry.

There's not much, it's average, the mc's act sometimes contradicting himself with his words, and his personality isn't really solid crafted, sometimes like this suddenly like that, and some really s*upid, like when he said "isn't that hypocrisy" to the lady, I was like : aren't you the one.

Other than plothole and flaws in the story (if you read twice or more) another thing is The story feels like the story drifting the MC (world revolves around MC, so not the otherway around). There's not much outside of the box... more>> that MC do. Unless some unexpected things happened. If you want to read similar but better, Akuyaku reijou koi ni shite, or otome game is tough for mobs (only first volume) or I'm the Evil Lord of an Intergalactic Empire!

Update v2c23

Great story with distinct characters that behave and act appropriately to the type of character they are. The characters also develop and improve well and the determination to achieve their goals by the MC and FMC both are very refreshing to read.

However, the most notable aspect of the story that I really like is how the story also portrays the social aspects and importance of social standings of nobility well all the while explaining to us readers why is it so. I've read many Villainess type of manga and I... more>> have to say, this manga is one of the best in terms of adhering to the rules of nobility. <<less

While the first half of volume 1 does well at setting up the premise, the main problem is that the ML is too perfect. He does everything well and all problems are perfectly resolved. This reaches the level of making the story boring...

But the second half of the volume addresses this. Complications are thrown in, not because ML gets dumbed down, but because of reasonable circumstances and other characters having actual agency and desires. The author does a good job of keeping the plot flowing without resorting to idiot balls... more>> and instead makes the smart characters look smart while the dumber less competent ones remain realistic.†

Add on top of this that this is a story focusing on politics, manipulations, and duels of the mind, and I have to praise the intelligence of the author for all the effort that goes into the story. After all, it's so difficult to write a character that is more intelligent than the author.

†As an aside, it's typical for antagonists in JP novels to be 'spared' by the protagonists and converted to allies. This can get a little bit ridiculous in shonen fiction, but when its equivalent occurs here, it's done in a way that not only makes sense, but is done in a way that to do anything else would reek of s*upidity. <<less

Its really great and I really recommend it, except for the fact that translations are few and far between.
    • The world building is done is a nice way, with good character development.
    • The protagonist isnt dense and knows what he is doing and the FL is also capable and a great character.

I. Need. More.

For the me that was getting bored of the reicarnated otome game villaines kind of stories, this is definetly very fresh.

The MC is a BOY, in a SHOUJO story. And he is not your regular beta MC in this kind of stories. He is aware of everything around him, finally a reborn MC that acts their (true) age. (Don't take this wrongly, he still makes a couple mistakes here and there, but if you read the novel, you will see those mistakes are completely OK)

And also, can't... more>> hate the (incoming) Yandere.

I. Need. More.! (However, each chapter is EXTREMELY long, and the translator releases chapter very frequently in my opinion. So, I don't lie saying that I actually need more, but I am not pushing the translator in any ways, 100% satisfied with the release schedule/rate) <<less

For the most part it's very enjoyable and a fresh take on otome games with pretty in depth world building. My main gripe is the MC attracting girls from all over. I get he's supposed to be this perfect butler and therefore a gentleman to all women but to me he's just overly kind and physical with women in a period of time that still is conservative about female-male relations.

Sure it pushes the story along by having the FL get jealous. It doesn't match his supposed high intellect when he... more>> knows her destruction into darkness relies solely on when he's making her jealous. In his mind he doesn't affirm any real romantic feelings towards the FL but acts ambiguously with her as if leading her on while saying he has no other intentions. That's such scum behavior to me. He's such a schemer and incredibly insightful yet still doesn't physically distance himself from the girls interested in him. He politely turns them down by saying he's promised to stay by the FL's side yet still leads them on by being overly kind or simply allowing them to get close to him. It's really frustrating. If it weren't for how dedicated and how much he does for the FL, I'd be in support of her dumping his ambiguous with everyone's ass.

I get that maybe my personal preference for overt ML's is creating bias but I also see it as a character gap. How could someone whose sole purpose is to prevent the FL from falling into yandere craziness, not maintain his distance from those girls. He should know better! Yes, it's good that he's trying to make sure she's emotionally growing and not as easily bothered by her jealousy. However, he's doing a disservice to everyone by leading them on without drawing a clearer line. Especially with the OGFL. Okay, he feels guilty for interrupting her event where she was supposed to meet the prince. Then shouldn't he make it more clear to her so she can find happiness elsewhere? Yes, OGFL is the one flirting with him on initiatives and taking his hands, etc. He feels unjust about being misunderstood or caught by the FL in such situations. Issue is, he could've avoided it by NOT letting the OGFL the opportunity. He's a skilled fighter, he can more than easily evade the girls trying to latch onto him. UGHHHHH. Honestly, I want to give even a lower rating bc of how pissed off he makes me and therefore creating unnecessary drama. But no. The author and translator deserve the 4 stars for all the other aspects.

I expect a happy ending but idk if I have it in me to keep reading his scum behavior. Yes, he's super dedicated to the FL but he's also the one that causes her the most sadness every time he's ambiguous with other girls. At least in the OG timeline, the prince wasn't so annoying to lead her on while being with the OGFL, granted there was a whole engagement so that's a different type of betrayal. Still, it's not the prince saying one thing and doing another. He was clear about his dislike.

edit: I give it 3 stars bc the ending was not satisfying.
Spoiler

Alicia still hasn't given up and ML/FL are only marriage candidates not engaged.

idk if I'm already tired of these novels but this one just oozes cringe. Everything is a tool for the MC to show off while also creating angst.

And there's also the typical "every important character is a 12, and they all speak and act like adults and are the driving force of every important event in this world"

Okay so this novel is very good. I love Cyril sooo much. There's just one major problem that makes me struggle to read it..

His love interest is literally 12. He was reincarnated when he was 18 bro and he says stuff like "I might have to punish u😈😈" BOYYY that is a child. I can't it bothers me so much.

And then another character is in love with a teacher?😟 Nawww... and Cyril is just like "yep that makes sense" dawggg....

The whole time I was reading this I had to pretend... more>> like they weren't literally 12 I couldn't take it.. <<less
