F University’s two most attractive men, Wang Guangning and Zhang Lingyi, constantly competed with each other regardless in what aspect.

Whether it was appearance, talent, popularity or even the number of abdominal muscles, they always contested with each other. Even the woman they pursued was the same.

Yet, these two xiao cao¹ who had self-proclaimed themselves as peerless in the aspect of love were completely rejected by the same woman.

Hence, they decided to retaliate against society by becoming gay.

They set an agreement to be gay for thirty days and even especially downloaded the list from the internet, thus preparing themselves to follow these standards in order to become a proper gay couple.

For example:

Watching a movie together…Hey, shou shou, remember to lean on my shoulder when you see a frightening scene, alright?

Warming their hands together in the same pocket…Hey, don’t wear that large military jacket outside, it’s really embarrassing!

***

By learning how to be gay from an unreliable guidebook for couples, two straight guys clash and end up with an unexpected outcome.

Their thirty days agreement has finished, yet can they truly return to their former lifestyles as if nothing ever happened?

[1] 校草: the male counterpart of 校花. It’s used to describe the most attractive guy of the school.

This novel is akin to a basket filled with all possible danmei and yaoi cliches to exist. Everything ranging from the start to the end of the relationship felt unnatural and very very dramatic. All the characters are 1-D. Typical MC, typical ML, typical villan etc. Translation is good though.

So many things in this novel are pretty annoying. You get to see two arrogant narcissists at the beginning and in the end one of them remains arrogant (the shou obviously) but the other becomes the loyal gong (obviously the... more>> gong) who does everything to please the shou, thinks of nothing but the shou, and of course the shou. In fact he calls the MC "shoushou" as a nick name which seemed really weird? To me at leas.

This novel at times was really funny and enjoyable. The author interviewing the couple part was also fun to read. But the cliched plot overshadowed whatever good thing the novel had to offer. Characters are poorly written, plot is highly unrealistic and never likely to happen in real life (please don't tell me getting together is the new trend for revenge) and the ending is like what just happened here. Despite all this the novel did manage to make me read till the end. So two stars I guess. <<less

This is really sweet. I cried a lot while reading this but it made me laugh too. The MC and ML were pretending to be boyfriends but they got used to it and eventually stopped pretending and actually were boyfriends. The misunderstandings they had and all the trials of society and figuring out what they actually felt were so hard. I was sobbing near the end of it.

At first, this book was very funny and silly. Silly to the point that I thought it could never show anything real. I mean, the leads are practically on crack lol. But then a few chapters later, what I thought was silly in the book, I started adoring it and I'm sure many would feel the same.

The leads are cute and though they don't have an in-depth character, they are fresh and it's very engaging to read them sort through their feelings for each other. Maybe it is because I... more>> have read way too much fluff and sweetness these past few days, I didn't find this to be particularly special, but if you are someone who's read a lot of intense stuff lately, then this will definitely be a good break. <<less

I thought this was just some light hearted fluffy novel, didn't think that at one point it would squeeze my heart out and leave me crying one time and another time, for a love I have yet to experience. Honestly, those part wasn't really that tearjerking, but it was painful and one could even say the reason for their falling out is so shallow. Yet, it still managed to make me give out my emotions.

The novel at times could not hold my attention span especially at college arc, but it... more>> got better at their grown up arcs. 4.5/5! <<less

First, thanks to fakeluff for completing the translation. Muah~~~

This is a sweet story about two handsome guys (who believe they are straight) falling in love. MC and ML are kind people. They are male gods of their university but are very down to earth. The competition between them is funny. No "cold and aloof" protags here. The ML is silly at times and MC just goes along with him. The 4 year separation took me by surprise. Thankfully, there is no angst. Did they suffer? Yes. But the author doesn't... more>> give lengthy melodramatic descriptions of their suffering. MC and ML suffer, remain true to each other and get back together.

Overall, its a light novel. Sweet with no angst. Do not expect logic. Just go with the flow. <<less

Two guys who think that they're straight act as a couple for 30 days to get back at the world (some who*e was leading them on, then rejected both of them) Eventually, they fall in love.

It's cute and heartwarming, really. Don't know why it's listed as yaoi instead of shounen ai (there's only one and a half "dirty" scenes, the rest are clean and pure and beautiful and adorable and it might get less clean and pure and beautiful and adorable later on but as of chapter 39 it's PURE)... more>> <<less

Fun and enjoyable story. Of course it's predictable and not a big spoiler to say they fall in love. However, the process is well written and at times funny. Both Wang Guangning and Zhang Lingyi are likable characters but I especially liked ZL's enthusiastic and childlike personality.

Spoiler

There is a time skip of four years. This happened after their agreement ended. WG was going to confess to ZL but saw that ZL had started dating someone already. WG was traumatized and went to Taiwan (via a student exchange). He didn't come back until four years later due to work.

ZL did have feelings for WG but he didn't understand them. He also didn't know WG liked him. So ZL agreed to date his classmate who had liked him for three years. However, they broke up after a month because ZL was obsessed with trying to get in touch with WG. WG had cut off contact with everyone once he went to Taiwan.

After WG came back, they were both more active in getting closer to the other... and eventually the connection was made both emotionally and physically.

I don't quite understand the 1* rating.. This novel is fun and cute ❤️ I like dark/heavy bl novels (like Brother or Profundis), but sometimes I want to have a good time with a good 'light' novel, and this one is pretty good ! :)

I can't believe I managed to finish this. The story is silly and childish. Sure, a lot of things are quite hilarious and "cute" (if you can call it that), but I feel it's quite shallow as it seems like everything is just based on looks and richness. It was enough to pass the time, but I wasn't particularly engaged with the novel (I stopped/forget about reading it so many times). I also find how they fell in love was unnatural and felt rather forced.

Loved loved loved this novel so much! I’ve honestly been putting this on hold for a while now and the tab I had pulled up of this story was never opened and was buried for a few months... I finally gave it a chance and absolutely have no regrets. The only thing I regret is not reading this sooner.

The main leads are amusing and so adorable. The MC has a hot and cold personality, he’s super cute and tough all at once, but also mature when he needs to be.... more>> The ML is a sweet loyal dog that is really accommodating towards to MC, albeit he has a bit of a teasing nature. I adore their relationship and interactions.

It was so hilarious and endearing watching them slowly get close through their agreement. They softened around each other without realizing and mutually few in love through their days together. It does seem a bit silly that these two were so dedicated to completing all 30 days, but I think they had gotten so comfortable with each other that the main objective of “getting revenge on society” was totally discarded.

I think one thing I hadn’t expected from this comedy-filled novel was the angst. This bit is spoiler-y so be warned. By the time the main leads fell for one another, they had already developed a sense of insecurity about the others feelings, since the 30-day agreement was coming to an end. It was heartbreaking reading as the MC and ML hid away in fear because of their doubts. I think the thing that pained me the most was when the MC had worked up the confidence to confess, but was met with the ML telling him that he had decided to get with a girl before MC could tell him his feelings. The ML had done this to attempt to break away from the “taboo” feelings he had for the MC, but he unknowingly broke the MC’s heart and sealed his decision to move to Taiwan for school. This led to a four year separation, but they thankfully swiftly repaired their relationship after the MC came back. They became so sweet after this, it could be seen that they still thought of only each other after the MC left.

This novel is such a sweet, hilarious, and just beautiful danmei. One issue I did feel a little iffy about was how much the MC was obsessed with gong-shou (top-bottom) dynamics. This is a really common idea in China, that being to bottom makes someone less of a man or more feminine. Of course this isn’t true, but I understand why the MC was written like this, no one is perfect and this idea of masculinity and femininity is very prevalent in China, especially since he was written as a previously straight man. Be aware that some of the MC’s conceptions on homosexuality are outdated and could be uncomfortable to read.

Overall, I really recommend this danmei novel, the main leads have the sweetest dynamic and their interactions are so beautifully written. <<less

Doting Puppy x Arrogant, Lovable Tsundere

This novel was simple and sweet love story. It held a bit of drama and had stereotypical shou and gong roles but it was charming. Honestly with Chinese bl novels you get shou and gong roles fixed a lot and it is something you have to get over if you want to read bl.
There is not r*** or dubious consent and the couple truly seem to value and love one another (though it takes a while after fake dating). While the characters bicker about... more>> their roles it is never a truly putting someone down (they joke and bicker about it) for taking the shou role.

It does have the stereotypes and they are idiots 😂 but it is a humorous and adorable read with a very satisfying ending ✨Gosh they love each other 💗🥺 <<less

Super funny, this novel was better than I expected. It's a bit of idiot plot and you shouldn't read too much into things but I enjoyed reading this a lot.

The main characters were super funny and I liked the relationship between them, both of them were smart but made questionable decisions, the agreeing to date as revenge to society, it literally made no sense and they weren't doing it properly half the time but it was super funny.

The pacing was fast because the novel isn't that long but I think... more>> it was okay, and it made sense for the characters.

I actually liked the ending, it was a very nice happy ending. Don't expect anything deep or dramatic, there's light angst and some misunderstandings but everything is resolved nicely.

Worth reading and easy to read again because it's short. The story is quite entertaining and good for a one day read. <<less

Just want to say, I really enjoyed this novel from last till the end. This kinda reminds me of Hangout Crisis Manga wherein two popular students ended up being together but the whole premise of pretending to be gay is their difference. I laughed, felt sad and warm while reading this.

Spoiler

Just had a little bit of concern regarding with how their parents keep on saying if their sons' partner isn't good looking they might have already burst into anger or strong opposition, I mean the way I see it, it feels like they're trying to imply that if they're not good looking then they'd receive a different treatment? But aside from it, the plot was actually good and fun to read

This story was so so sweet! CP is adorable, handsome and so good together. They are equally matched. Gong is such henpecked hubby. In part 2, he reminds me a bit of Luo Binghe from SVSSS although setting is totally different. That's how he dotes on the shou.

Love to read when they were in college, how they fell in love and found eachother again! Characters are successful, but not to extent that they are filthy rich or almighty like in many other novels. I really liked it here, not... more>> too ordinary or dull, but not godly like either. Just the right amount.

Reading this story you shouldn't mind too much how silly reason the author gave why CP should try being gay. I could overcome/ignore that and just enjoyed their dates.

Also in the story, it's not that MC and ML didn't realize how impulsive and silly their 30-day agreement was. MC wanted to quit after he calmed down after few days, but secretly both were enjoying it too much and just went with it.

There was light angst in the middle, please mind the timeskip tag. I loved it! I shed 2 tears for the shou.

3 flaws:

1. I first thought the author had no idea how the corporate world works. No way that cp could make career so fast in 2-3y after graduation. Typical case of an author that doesn't do much research and doesn't know how it works. But then in the author notes I understood she does work in corporate world. But then, what she writes is not due to ignorance. I think that is so much worse!! At least have a longer timeskip then to make it more believable.

2. MC comes back after long timeskip and suddenly everything is fine? I hate slowburn so I don't mind it, but author should explain to readers why MC suddenly is ok.

3. Really dumb jealous 'villain'. Many bl webnovel authors write villains that are too dumb just to make the plot work, and this one is over the top and totally unbelievable. What he does in his attempt to destroy cp... truly?? We live in 2012 (when novel was written) and they work in international companies. How can a believable villain overlook things as professionalism and privacy (just for the plot). But hey.. I'm reading BL mainly for fluff and not for clever villains, so I'll forgive the author this too :) <<less

It is good. Tho there was some part that shows homophobic notes, I think it is justified. Considering the country were they are from and that they were really straight before the agreement, gender confusion is normal. Tho im a bit put off by the gong's trying to be cutesy (after he got emerged to danmei... And adopt whatever contents he read), ZLY isn't that bad. Tho, character wise, I prefer WGN better, persons like ZLY exist... Smart people are borderline weirdos afterall (idk if people will agree with this,... more>> but within my circle full of top-notchers, it is indeed true😅).

Anyway, I even cried at the end of their agreement. I didn't expected that. And the story four years later was even better. Even if ZLY still called WGN shoushou (became a pet name already)

Overall, I am very satisfied and enjoyed reading this. <<less

This is the type of plot that you can normally find in a BL manga hoisting 5 chapters and one omake chapter. Throw in your cliched-but-oh-so-addicting plot device of fake dating, add on a careless misunderstanding that sets off major epiphanies, & then proceed with a sudden but mildly-angsty time skip that’s followed by cute revelations & steamy scenes. Overall, it’s a cute & easy read. Don’t sweat on the plot too much; it should be enjoyed with 10% of your brain power!

This is a great choice if you want to have a light-read and fluffy plus comedy web novel. The interaction between 2 MLs are amusing and will make you laugh a lot. There are no big conflicts involved, and the misunderstanding in the stories become the spice which add a little color to the storyline.

Ahhhh this story is so sweet and gently paced! Although yes, there was this teensy tiny bit of drama and angst but it was so well placed in the plot and well worded that it really isn't that heavy so it projects that "bitter, bittersweet" feeling completely. I like this one, especially the two main characters, I love every inch of them: from their fights, from their mistakes, from their confused and not so confused thoughts and from how much they love each other ♡ I also can't stop laughing... more>> whenever Zhang Lingyu is involved hahaha! <<less

Already agreeing to be pretend gay is ominous to bending LOL. Still, their internal struggles and denials of falling for the other were hilarious and sweet at the same time.

Some plots would seem ridiculous, but for someone obviously attracted to the other, their excuses to be together seem reasonable haha.

Feel good novel. Probably there’s one chapter to tug on your heart. But it’s manly macho fluff all throughout. ??
