Clearing an Isekai with the Zero-Believers Goddess – The Weakest Mage among the Classmates (WN)

Makoto Takatsuki is a normal high school student and a hardcore RPG player.

However, “normal” goes out the window when his whole class is involved in a bus crash and whisked away to another world! Powerful gods rule this strange new land of magic and monsters, and every newcomer is blessed with strong stats and unique skills.

Well, not quite. Makoto’s stats turn out to be pathetic, and his skills are super weak compared to his classmates’…he’s even stuck as an apprentice mage. Worse still, he’s given only ten years to live!

Luckily, Makoto soon meets a minor goddess named Noah, who appears in Makoto’s dreams and asks him to become her first believer. With the help of Noah’s blessings and a divine weapon, Makoto seeks to become strong enough to rescue his goddess from the dungeon where she’s been trapped.

By training hard and using his weak skills in unorthodox ways, Makoto proves that, even when playing on hardcore difficulty, an RPG player always makes it to the end!

It's pretty alright. It has a strong start, and its use of common isekai tropes is pretty fun. The worldbuilding is pretty extensive, but sometimes gets a bit sloppy in some areas. The most notable aspect of the series is of course the protagonist, who is the "incomprehensible hardworker" type, whose only good point is how much effort he puts into everything while having fun. Coupled with the effects of some of his skills and the seemingly evergrowing harem around him, his adventures are both amusing to follow, and aggravating... more>> to put up with. <<less

Let me start off by thanking the TL as they've done a wonderful job at translating this story.

The classic isekai template begins with a long-winded title and a typical underdog story about a young weak and introverted MC, who with little support, rises above the challenges and trials thrown at them to become the ultimate victor. And lets not forget that harem.

The story exceeds what other similar isekai stories don't; it delivers a consistent story without any issues that plague other isekais such as betrayal, NTR and ludicrous power levels.... more>> The MC is also level-headed in most aspects which is another positive. If you're looking for a Slice of Life isekai, then I'd recommend reading this.

Now my small little rant.

Whilst the story is consistent and ever moving forward, it is mediocre and very slow paced. Moreover, the world-building is minimal and leaves a lot for the reader themselves to figure out. You might say this is a positive as it does explain enough to give the reader to understand a general image of the world rather than bore them to death with pages and pages of plot exposition and mythos. However everything else is also average. The dialogue between characters is literally small chit-chat revealing little about each character apart from significant information or characteristics. Most conversations literally amount to his companions A: "Subtlety" suggesting that they have the hots for MC; B: Praise for MC being more reliable than they thought so; or C: Some nice fluff.

Action scenes are a bit better but fail to build significant tension and are often resolved quickly. Moves and actions seem quite generic and are copy-pasted from other isekais. The RPG player skill had potential but currently amounts to no more as a final decision asking machine. The fact that he continues to go into fights as the "weak" underdog and continues to come out as the victor suggests that he isn't as "weak" as he keeps telling everyone every chapter.

Whilst the MC is level-headed he also is very dense. Ignoring romance which has been bashed to death in many other reviews, the MC displays no awareness for the world that surrounds him and acts irrationally.

Spoiler

In the dungeon after being ambushed by a couple thugs MC and successfully escaping, MC worries for those who threatened to kill him and exploit him and his companions???

[collapse]

Spoiler

In the scene where we see him meeting the princess he acts brashly ignoring any consequences and speaking his mind. If your country's leader invited you to join them for a conversation you wouldn't exactly flip them off, would you now?

[collapse]

But then again I wouldn't expect any different from a MC that would attempt to save a merchant from goblins despite being as weak as a twig and fanatically devotes himself to a goddess who he knows has ulterior motives.

All in all, it's a story that doesn't revolutionize the genre but isn't poor. Just sort of disappointed I was lead to believe it was some sort of masterpiece like Lord of Mysteries (Completely different genre and story but highly recommend checking it out) based on the reviews. 6.5/10 (Will keep reading so score may change) <<less

Its been a while since I've read it but whilst I did read it, it was a good read albeit the start of the novel was kinda slow and very much the sudden growth in strength, because of which we got the most teir 1 training arc which is playing around with water for a whole year (lol).

The story really doesn't start until he gets out of the temple (?), but I kinda like the MC's power which is cool to imagine. As for the harem, I guess it has... more>> a fairly good build-up. There are a fair amount of annoying moments and tropes but it's worth it if you read it till the war arc (which is where I stopped). All in all, it is a good read although it's declining to a typical isekai trope but it's great. <<less

From the prologue it looks quite good by isekai standards, however the translation doesn’t do the original writing justice in a lot of places. For example they say the children are shooting “fire arrows, ” when in the original text it clearly says they’re shooting balls of fire from their hands. Little things like that and certain phrasing were pissing me off a good bit, but all in all it’s worth the read. If you have a basic knowledge of Japanese I recommend pulling out a dictionary and reading the... more>> raw, good practice and some of the descriptions in my opinion are more exciting. <<less

Thee aren't really anything outstanding about this novel so idk what's the hype all about. Although there are a few annoying things I found on this novel.

Here's the ff:

1. His innate skills are redundant, the calm mind skill should be an effect of the RPG player skill already.

2. The RPG player skill's effect is nothing but a cartography skill... and somehow it makes him immune to charm? Like what's the connection? The given reason was just BS, that would make him an immortal too considering his body is just an... more>> avatar or some sort.

3. The level up mechanics don't make sense. Like what's the point of levels? His stats don't increase so why even have that at all?

4. Mana, MP, Magic Power, Magic Proficiency, Magic Tiers. Seriously, the author needs a proper explanation on how this works. He kept pulling his ass off with magic he haven't even learned! Oh so now he has mana, then he should be able to use Saint Magic. Like fvcking HOW?! The MC has to learn the basic water magic from the nun, who taught him Saint Magic? How could he learn it if he doesn't have the mana to use it?

5. The MC is just way too humble, he killed all the enemies and he goes like, "I didn't do much, it's all blah blah's...". My God! It's so annoying!

6. Sakurai could 1 hit everyone, yet he puts up with the everybody's orders. He's a doormat, and a baby making machine. And for what? It's because he's kind? What a lame excuse.

7. Harems are normalize in this world. Ugh, you get the point. <<less

A decent isekai novel but don't expect too much from high rating

Pros-

-not super op protagonist who have cheat skill from start and collect harem like pokemon.

-good story telling.

-well explained fighting scenes.

Cons-

-level and xp system are not explained well.

-the major fault of this isekai is carefree attitude of characters or happy go lucky attitude, lack of sense of danger, revealing important information to character you have just met (stuff for which he could get executed)

Spoiler

main character carefree attitude towards his friend fuji even after knowing that he can read mind, I get that he is a good guy, but he can easily know all MC weakness and secrets for which he may even be executed and clearly his friend can easily be fooled as most if not all his employ are female, second if ever threatened he will chose his fame, wealth and harem over MC. So yeah avoid unnecessary contact with him instead of paying him visit cause your mood is down or just cause you were bored.

[collapse]

-Politics

In short read only if you have read most of the popular and good isekai novels. <<less

Fairly entertaining. Likeable characters, but not much in the way of growth. Feels more like a slice-of-life isekai, despite the amount of action it has. No long term villains, light on the serious moments, and the comedy is also pretty flat. Despite my criticisms, I do like the series, but wish there was more room for character drama or growth.

It's a story about MC without balls with plotarmor superpower. The most OP power which can make a hero from the weakest person.

Overall story is ok... MC is saving girls and they are falling in love. He also is super weak but at the same plot armor helps him defeat anything. His hard work looks ridiculous when he can get ten of profiency points after one magic cast. The situation when Hero is another guy, not MC is also not new. It's a bit unexpected that hero looks like a... more>> decent guy but in the end he is even worse beta than MC and probably he will become useless or bad rather soon...

If MC had at least some anger it might have been 5 stars, at least MC would human like. But with beta duo, a lot of cliche and plot armor super power I think it's 3 <<less

The story is okay? I'm pretty sure the MC has autism or something. Not sure why the author would make the main character of their story like that. It's more tedious than interesting after over 100 chapters of it. Oh well, I'll keep reading it since it doesn't absolutely suck.

I think MC don't get rewarded enough for his work. It would be better if he received compensation for his work. All his achievements are unknown or claimed by someone else.

If you like standard isekai (weak to strong, overpowered abilities, classic fantasy), this is one of the good ones.

The tropes are countless, some played straight, while most of them are played for laughs. Be forewarned, it is a tr*sh isekai after all.

Author (and Reigokai-sama) blessed us with a lot of references to not only pop culture, but to mythology and obscure things.

Spoiler

First off, the fact that the Goddess is Noah, on an arc.

Second, in the beginning, Makoto says one of his first games was saving the princess from a castle. Guess what.

Third, the whole thing with Naia being Nyarlathotep, but also sneaking in Nyaruko-chan reference. Wild that I got the first one even before the reveal.

[collapse]

The MC is a Makoto. Just like his namesake from Tsukimichi, he is a training freak, a very carefully hidden sociopath, an absolute buffoon when it comes to romance. The only difference is that one gets to bang a hot dragon samurai...

The plot is as mundane as it could be, but the author still didn't disappoint and managed to keep the stakes high. It is rewarding in the end, as the last 3 arcs were a literal cherry on top of well-executed tropes, drama and a triumphant ending. Classic "hero's journey".

The pacing and progression is... awful, to be honest.
Spoiler

The plot device of maou resurrection speeding up really sets into perspective that in 3 (5) years, MC went through the classic "kill a slime - kill a god" isekai trope. It never made much sense and I wish there were more authors who abstained from rushing the plot.

[collapse]
Not as bad as time skips, looking at you, Death Flags-kun.

The romance is okay. It doesn't really resolve in the main story, and it is a weird harem
Spoiler

consisting of two very obviously yuri heroes, of which one is the childhood friend and the other is hot, two princesses (and a major noble), a literal goddess (or multiple, if you are a fan of Ira-sama)

[collapse]
.

Female leads are two-dimensional. There's not much development in terms of personality for the initial romance interests, apart from their attraction to each other. The other three at first glance are the patrician choice in terms of actual personality, but then you think a second time and it's clear: a kuudere, a tsundere and a yandere. Jeez.

Overall, like I said, it is thoroughly tr*sh isekai. But it is a very good one, and a completed one at that. <<less

Okay. Now that it's finished I'll leave my review. First off this novel is in my top 3 I loved it. The characters, the development, the structure. I waited patiently every week for new chapters. It has a lot of a good points, and also tons of bad points IMO. Character is a unique being weak/strong his powers evolve for sure but in a peculiar way. MC is legit the most dense MC in existence and it's more than painful. It's infuriating, but he also moves forward. Well like 3... more>> steps forward 2 back honestly. Things I absolutely hate (personally) the story drops important info or characters. And we never see or hear about again. I hate that. Even if there are side stories to read several hundred ch. And finish the main story with no conclusion to these important things is a real piss off. Information is abundant and is appreciated but sometimes it's toward the wrong things I feel. Novel likes to leave lots of questions small and large. Also if you ask me the ending was to rushed. There could have been 20-50 more chapters. He gets nervous at the dumbest times and remains cool and collected during 3/4 of the novel which is honestly confusing. He's constantly at a loss and confused and asking questions even when we've read or he's even been told the information before. To often you'll read several paragraphs before he does anything at all, or he won't act in the least. A lot of things are preventable but. Our MC is dense and indecisive which is a disease apparently among Japanese isekai protagonist. Honestly tho the novel is very interesting and worth the time. Since I've stretched reading this for after a year to now to finish I'm reading it in one sitting to refresh and enjoy a good read through. <<less

this one surprised me, when I started reading I was expecting nothing out of this one, and in the end it became one of my favorites, be warned that this novel have a sh*t ton of plot holes and the main character that is said by the story and all gods of the story that is not charmed by his goddess is clearly simping her all the time, but if you can ignore this you will probably enjoy this novel.
