This is a seriously well written novel. The characterisations are fantastic, the supporting characters are given a lot of importance.

This is one of those rare CN where a 'psychological' tag should be placed. There is also an intricate plot filled with intrigue, politics, clandestine movements, etc

The first arc that I have which usually involves the MC stabilizing/strengthening/saving his clan/family is very well written, filled with lots of characters with different agendas (sort of like game of thrones).

There was only around 3 fights till chapters 133, mostly MC Killing... more>> villains who are stronger than them.

Also there is some rip roaring comedy in this novel.... well its mostly 'Black comedy' though.

Lastly the MC of the this novel is really awesome, he's very different from the MCs You see in standard CN novel like ATG, MGA, etc

He is an assassin, so according to the situation he transforms himself, for eg He acts like the 'spoiled Young master' of a clan in one instance which you see in many xianxia (the one who is very weak but arrogant and misbehaves with women all along hiding under the strength of his clan)............ this novel is pretty awesome <<less

the novel moves in slow pace, the story is about an assassin transported to the body of the weak young master of prestigious family who is in decline of having no heir to continue the lineage. The assassin held cheat-like artifact and began training to survive in the other world. The story is pretty well written and quite interesting, like the emotion the assassin showed when he remembered the hometown and others. The assassin's and the other characters' personality are quite interesting, with the detailed past written, which make things... more>> reasonable. There are idioms, slangs, and poems in this novel as well, which are cool points for me. Recommended if you are looking for slow pace novel and unique protagonist. <<less

I normaly don’t make reviews but I just had a feeling this time I should make one. This novel is definitly one of my favourites. It doesn’t have much action uptil now but don’t worry! The mind games are so well written that it just makes your blood boil. The speeches too.
Spoiler

For example when he gives a speech in front of 300 demotivated guards in his clan, he motivates them to train till the point of almost dying.

[collapse]
The characters are definitely a 5/5 aswell. Every character has a different character. The grandfather of the MC is really cool and ofcourse fatty is too funny. The MC is really cunning and knows how to manipulate people. The mc’s enemies are also really cool and you just can’t hate them, which is very rare. There is also a really smart and powerful enemy which is basicly his rival uptil now, and I like him a lot. Also, you shouldn’t hate on all the coincidences/fortunes of the MC where he unintentionaly beats his oponents without noticing. In fact, I find them really funny. It is a comedy after all. Anyways, you should just read this it’s really refreshing, I don’t think there are any bad points about this novel except for the fact that the MC acted low key when it wasn’t necessary 1 or 2 times. But that isn’t influental. If you don’t like things like mind games and a smart MC beating people with his mind then I guess this is not for you. In my opinion it’s great because of that fact, really really refreshing.

EDIT: btw, in case you're wondering if there isn't much action because the MC is weak then you're wrong. He just didn't have the need to fight people a lot because he beats them with his mind.

This is one of my favorite read but the racism against japan and how they were portraid really disgusts me. There's also the misogynistic idea that women's can only be happy with a man. The nationalism also gets annoying. Its not even set on earth why does China keep hetting mentioned.

The way the outworlders were treated in this is really fucced up. They were made the villain because of there looks and were froced to suffer. The MC also deeply hates them to the point he killed them all just... more>> because he reminds him of japan. Its really fuccing bad and downright disgusting. But I still read all of it because it has some funny moments as well as moments were I cried.

Overall, if u can ignore all the bad points (i just skipped the chapters where is see the racism) then its actually a good read.

Additional rant, I dont think this guy (MC) even lived during the era when japan was doing all those terrible stuff. But this guys hatred towards them is really extreme its as if he was there when it happend. Its understandable to condemn those who actually commited those crimes back then. But why does he have to take it out on the innocent ones, even going as far as to massacre an abused race of people from a different world that has nothing to do with japan nor look japanese just because they remind him of japan. You can easily tell during the final war that those outworlders arent inherently bad theyre only trying to invade because they were sealed in a place where there are very little resources. The MC had the power to change their circumstances and avoid further bloodshed but he really went ahead to massacre every single one of them. How does that make him any different to the japanese soldiers who did all thos deplorable stuff back then. To think he even had the gall to condemn and hate because of the massacres done to China back thenconly to do the same in an even more extreme manner, completely making them extinct because he doesnt like how they look. This guy is a rwal fuccing hypocrite if it wearnt for the fact all this stuff only cam to light in the last chapters and im already fully invested in finishing the story. I wouldve dropped this thing long ago. <<less

If you read the novel, then it feels like his old assassin life was a joke. It's like a little assassin boy going into another kids body because his personality as jun moxia matches his age making you wonder what kind of life style his old assassin life was like. If he was a 15 year old assassin transmigrating into another kids body then it makes sense. If he's an adult assassin transmigrating into a teenager's body then I would assume that he's mature but no he's not. When I... more>> read the part where he held his waist and shake his bu*t to mei xueyan then I lost interest. I dont see a legendary assassin doing that but a teenager but let me remind you that he's an old man assassin who tranmigrate into a teenage kids body. If an old man transmigrated into a teenage kids body, then I would assume that person has a mentality of an adult in a kids body. <<less

Emotional rollercoaster hidden by a lot of shallowness as other novels from the same author.

The first half is interesting and quite well-developed. The second half loses a lot of good points of the novel like MC suddenly acting like completely a different person or out of character.

Other points:

Harem could be more interesting if the author put more effort into developing the interactions and drama around it. Not like "she likes me, oh I must accept her" and the reasons for them liking him are more shallow than you can think... more>> of.

The cultivation system doesn't give the feeling of a sense of accomplishment in any way.

Fillers! A lot of Fillers! Fck how can you stretch for 10 chapters meaningless interactions or side stories but the more interesting ones like interactions with wives are described in one phrase or paragraph "oh well it happened" without any kind of build-up or suspense.

Spoiler

Then lol the reason for the "conjoined Aphrodite's" being enemies is just cause they are disgusting in the "MC mind" and this shallow reason is not the problem if MC was really superficial, unreasonable and displayed this kind of superficiality in other interactions like with the Xuan beasts or others but it clearly didn't. Maybe the author should've thought of a better reason if he really wanted to make the MC participate in the war against them.

[collapse]

There are many other things I noticed that don't make sense but I can't put it into words currently, that said even with all these bad points I would still say the essence of the story is good just needs some rewriting <<less

I don't really like protagonists that hides their true abilities because "it's troublesome". And he keeps belittling that world's martial arts called "Xuan Qi" and won't practice it but he still couldn't beat xuan qi experts. Lol. The comedy... well I don't really find it funny, depends on the person's sense of humor. I don't find being rude funny. Also, all characters has short tempers and when they get annoyed, they always resort to violence. I couldn't take more than 100 chapters lol

Lmaoooo I won't give a real review, I read this years ago, I used to love this so much, my standards were really low. This was of my favorite LNs a few years ago, oh yes gotta love my Jun Moxie from this LN and my Jun Wuxie from GDBBM. Looking back, it's so... bad. Maybe it was after trying to read the manhua that this LN was really dumbed down and I realized my standards were too low. If you are new to these martial arts LNs then I... more>> guess this is an enjoyable exciting read, but it is no masterpiece, it is suitable for chuunis, my younger edgy self thought I was so cool for reading this as if I were the f!cking MC and bragged about this being my favorite LN... ehm.

I'm not sure how sick this LN was, if I read it again I'd probably say worse things about this like about its r*pe and racism. Going by the tags that indicate twisted morals I'd already stay far from this LN, ew. I only see edgy teens enjoying it, but it's nothing new to xianxia/xuanhuan. Take my review with a grain of salt, I read this like 4-ish years ago and although it was of my favorite LNs I don't remember its details or a character besides Jun Moxie. I'm not gonna give this 1 star, I'm just not going to rate it because my feelings are just cringe from my youth and its natural to feel repelled by certain stuff you liked when you were younger. I used to like it a lot so I know it must not be too bad, at least it was exciting. But it's not as good as I thought it was, and reading stuff with heavy tags don't make the story better, it's just for kids to feel mature lmfao. <<less

Enjoyable for the most part, and different from other mainstream cultivation Novels. Very Refreshing!

Its flaws aren't as bad as to warrant a long ranting Review of my part.... STILL!

I will never get used to Chinese authors wrapping the ending and everything on One Last Chapter, leaving the reader to headcannon the rest of the missing Plot.

Overall a good read.

It started good, nothing new but enjoyable, until moments when MC talk with women, he king of assassins but cant handle women if they beutifull, in this regard he even worse then original body owner. Autor paints him like super ultimate assassin, master of stealth and infiltration, but also he pe*verted tr*sh simp, and when harem start to form its even gets worse, ofc MC cant just pursue women he likes, no no no, it must be some events that force him and god it so damn lame. From one... more>> side MC is super strong, smart, cunning etc etc, but from other he like idiot when with girls, like he stares at his dead uncle widow so damn much that he becomes muddleheaded and say her some pe*verted or sexist crap.... this is top assassin? Its smart guy? Or he gonna marry girl coz she faked pregnancy and now all seen it and he must do it? That guy that says ill go against all world and bla bla bla? But no, in reality he just says ok, soon il make her pregnant for real... or scene where he sexualy harass small animal. This novel goes from good to "wtf is this crap" so damn fast. P.s. sorry for bad grammar <<less

The synopsis is blatantly false advertising this novel, you would believe the MC be an assassin since that's the premise but he never partakes in any assassination at all, doesn't behave like an assassin in any shape or form and doesn't even have the skillset required to be the so called "king of assassins".

He has a cheat that allows him to become "invisible" "intangible" (it's not clear how it works at all tbh) that he got AFTER transmigrating and that's all he uses every time, he's also a beast... more>> tamer ??? And a really good swordsman for some reason, he forges weapons and concots pills; none of this is any way related to modern day assassination.

His cheat allows him to escape from every situation if he wants so there is no tension, he is supposed to be the underdog since he's picking on people way stronger and influential than he is said to be but it honestly never feels like that since he's always completely in control.

He lacks the attitude of somebody working from the shadows, he makes enemies for the dumbest reason when he is already in a supposedly precarious situation, he values face and morals way too much to be somebody "so awesome" and he's also a huge hypocrite and a chinese nationalist CCP spokesman.

I honestly can't find much positives for the MC as a character in a novel of this genre and that's pretty bad since he's in 90% of the scenes.

The rest of the characters are somewhat interesting and in the beginning it looked like the girls in the harem were actual people (2-3 romantic interest but no clear cut main heroine) but the author then introduced Venerable Mei and I kinda lost all hopes of an interesting romantic development further on in the story, it's clear she'll be the main heroine and the rest of the girls will slowly be banished to the shadow realm unfortunatly.

How do I know? She's the most beautiful woman EVER and also the strongest woman EVER, she can pick on 4 of the most poweful masters in the world at the same time with ease and she can "cause the downfall of a country" with her beauty. Of course this girl is mildly interested in our MC from the get go, boring.

It is clear to me that the author wrote this on a spurt and never planned ahead too much wich results in bad pacing and repetitive writing.

The event chain is really messy and that doesn't help create tension for the arc resolution since we jump around from an enemy to another, one chapter we are dealing with the political struggle, the next one is the revenge on Blizzard City then the Xue Hun Manor situation ect.

The humor is juvenile but quite funny tbh so there's that but it's really not enough to salvage this novel. <<less

The novel is overall alright. It's nothing amazing, a lot of tropes (but it's somewhat well used), decent characters and story line/story telling.

There is however some really HEAVY racist sh*t in this novel, the big bad evil race that are conjoined twins, that are in*esteous and just evil are actually japanese and MC have an innate hatred for them. There is absolutely no f*cking point making them japanese nor is it ever explained how those WW2 japanese somehow turn into another race that share the same world MC have been... more>> reincaranated to. It's purely here to spite japanese, f*cking hell, can't chinese let go already? I'm french and I'm not hating on germans that have nothing to do with WW2.

A bit of nationalism as well, china is great, china number 1.

Also expect the usual sexism from xianxia/xuanhuan, but the female character does get better treatements than most harem cultivation novels.

3/5 nothing amazing, was a decent read, the author just need to f*ck off with racism already. <<less

Starts off interesting but loses its charm as the chapter count increases. The novel has some nice humor and sentimental scenes but that the glaring problems in the novel are annoying, at least to me. I'll list out the reasons why I gave up reading this novel after reading close to 70% of it.

  1. Inconsistency. The author just does not bother about the consistency of the details and they get worse and worse. Even the simplest things such as MC's age are inconsistent. Another example would be how the third-ranked cultivator out of '8 great masters' is 6 stages above the second-ranked fella and at least 4 stages above the first-ranked. Let that sink in.
  2. Lack of details. A lot of things that were supposedly important were casually mentioned which made it really hard for me to visualize or at least make sense of things.
  3. MC's characterization. This is really tragic because MC gradually changed from a cold-blooded pro assassin to a careless emotional lecher. It does not help that MC has a chuuni tendecy to proclaim himself as the 'Evil Monarch', 'Supreme Assassin', and such.

Tbh, this is pretty entertaining. Tho I rated this 5 stars is becoz of it keeps me entertained and translations. I somehow dropped it becoz of the antagonists being so ridiculous. (I skipped most if their part cuz their strategy and dialogue is reallyyyy ridiculous and seems weak and a typical antagonist) They aren't that smart enough to rival the MC. And it's also becoz of the harems. It's increasing? But Mei Xue Yan is still the best. I can't say that this story is great, but for me it's... more>> ok. But until in my current chap that it gets boring. There's no internal strife that everyone seems so loyal ?? Besides the MC is sometimes ok and sometimes annoying. But in some times, it gets me getting thrilled that I cant help but get nervous. <<less

Pre reading warning:

    1. The story contains a harem with focus on only a handful of female characters (and some of them are really nothing to write about), might be a bit too much for some people.
    1. Also, the author sometimes exposes a xenophobic/anti-lgbt sort of mindset. It's minor, maybe four or five sentences throughout the actual story, doesn't play a large role in the plot, and you can substitute it with something else in your head. However, it does come off as irrational, senseless hate. It might be... more>> a big deal for some people, so if you can't ignore it easily, this novel might not be for you.
Alternative recommendation if that turns you off: Check out Joy Of Life for a very similar premise, with none of the glaring problems. Similar setup but focusing on slightly different themes, also more wuxia than xianxia, but joy of life gets a 5 from me.

Quite entertaining, definitely one of the better "reincarnated as an assasin" type stories. Plot is well thought out, with realistic-ish developments (at least within the trope. The trope is definitely not broken.), and one point of praise is that the plot developments and the world exploration ultimately don't get too repetetive or excessive (cough chaotic sword god cough). There is some self awareness of the archetype, but ultimately this is one of those arrogant MCs which tramples the world sort of story, albeit done well. The whole story seems to be a warning towards elitism, or am I reading too much into it? Characters are pretty well developed actually, and the shackles of love and family are quite well explored for a novel. There are novels that do better, but it is definitely not a weakness.

Conclusion: 4.0/5, for good themes such as emotional entanglement, elitism, the use of power. However, the story ultimately does not detract much from the trope of a reincarnated, arrogant MC with an ultimate cheat, running rampantly undefeated across the lands. The ending is also definitely of a pretty bad quality, just ignore the last 20 chapters or so. But everything is definitely wrapped up pretty well. So, read if you like the same old cliche but want to see it done expertly. <<less

Started out entertaining, as usual in a cultivation level. The MC gets a immortal artifact that helps him jump over cultivation levels like anything. MC starts out as a debauchee tr*sh, and then slowly shows his potential and trips his enemies. Would have been fine as such, however dropping it because of the vulgarity in the novel. A little bit is understandable considering its a harem cultivation novel, but it is way too vulgar in language, and with way-too-s*upid and delusional FLs falling for MC left and right with no... more>> rhyme or reason. They cook up their own stories and reasons for various situations and then fall for MC of their own!

Oh, one FL can kill OP grandmasters but is defiled by the MC and then is somehow unable to hit him back! That scene was way too cringy!! blergh! The progression can be seen that whereas now, she has a painful feeling in heart, she will slowly fall for MC! like whut!!

So much of story time is devoted to cheap fillers and senseless FLs that it completely breaks off the urgency of the revenge-cultivation story... <<less

It's a fairly good common xuanhuan, using the pagoda plot. It is interesting in the beginning, but I have already read many novels using the "power to make worlds inside their bodies".

My curiosity on this novel ran because of the MC being an assassin, well on my opinion, might as well not write the MC being an assassin, it's not even close to being one and he is proclaiming himself as the number 1 assassin in his previous life. I don't understand the concept where just because the MC uses... more>> stealth attack and "hiding powers" consider himself an assassin. Maybe the author has another version or type of assassins in his mind.

The ending is really boring, not even completely done, what kind of an ending where the author wrote that "since both of them won't die, I'll just leave it to your imagination".

There are so many stories and subplots that has been forgotten.

I still recommend this to anyone who likes to read common types of reincarnated novels, who bores the overpowered protagonist. <<less

Short version: Entertaining at the start, progressively gets worse as the kingdom's arc ends. Likeable characters in the first half. Everything becomes incoherent, and the world-building is a complete joke in the latter half. Reading strategy: Enjoy the first 300-400 chapters, then skim-read, or just read the chapter titles and a few paras here and there.

Long version:

... more>> I love the author's other novels, Transcending the Nine Heavens and I am Supreme, so gave this a shot. I chose wrong.

The novel has a decent start. Fairly entertaining, funny at parts, and sets up a decent plot and world. And then it all goes downhill. After 400-500 chapters, it gets worse. But hey, I've read Ancient Godly Monarch and The Legend of Futian, so bearing with this one wasn't all that hard.

The MC has 8th grader syndrome. He was apparently a king of assassins on Earth, which isn't a problem in itself. The problem is that the Earth also had some weird cultivation thingy going on, and the MC is a super-expert. He's super evil, and super fair, and does what he likes because duck the world, you get the drift. Pretend that this Earth is like ours but in a parallel universe where magic exists, and you can enjoy the first few hundred chapters. Also pretend that the transmigration made the MC a bit schizophrenic, and you can make some sense of the story.

Then there's the racism. Apparently the Japanese are all half-man-half-woman-sibling-ducking-stealth-ninjas. But this doesn't show up until half-way, and only appears in a few chapters even towards the end. You can just skip these chapters and still enjoy the story.

The first half can indeed be entertaining. The second half is just unbearable. The author completely gives up on the world building, and keeps introducing one powerful enemy after another, because, whatever. Entire chapters become commentary on how awesome the MC is and why he did this thing instead of that, because the readers are too s*upid to remember what happened a few paragraphs before. And of course, the MC is evil, but still nice and fair, smart, but keeps doing dumb things. He knows nothing about the world, and yet knows everything about all kinds of mysterious medicines and effects, and yet doesn't know anything.

It really is a shame, what the author did later into the story. The characters are quite likeable, at least on the progatonist's side. The MC does apply his tiny little brain on occasion, and some of the villains actually do have a little bit of a character, when the author can be bothered about it. There is a bit of romance, however weird and twisted, that some may enjoy. There's a harem, but it's only a bit unreasonable, and doesn't take too much space.

Overall, it's a decent novel to pick up if you have nothing else on your list. The first few hundred chapters are entertaining. And then, well, reading the chapter titles should do. The rest is just commentary anyway. <<less

I began this novel hoping that I would see a protagonist similar to the one in Reverend Insanity. Just with the title "Evil Monarch" and reading the synopsis "number one assassin before diying and being reincarnated", I was thinking that the protagonist should at least be emotionless and search for efficiency. But unfortunatly, it's the usual MC caring for his loved ones and merciless over his enemies. Not that I am against that type of WN but why must it have full chapters about his love for one or an... more>> other of his concubine or how he feel terribly dejected because one or an other of his concubine tried to protect him? talk about an emotionless assassin... And the guy has a title of Evil Monarch but he kills people for justice (even if he denies it), to save people.
The story about killing for money is a joke, sometimes he kills for cents (and that's just in the beginning, after that it is quickly forgotten). About the concubines, I am all for harem type, can't say I am not a little disappointed that except for one they are not really useful but it's far from being the only WN like that. And like a lot of WN it is phallocratic which again doesn't bother me if it's not omnipresent but sometimes I feel like the author have a really weird view of relationship between men and women.
Spoiler

Most of the times, when the protagonist sleep with his concubines, they don't want to in the beginning, they suffer, but in the end they are content. Not that I am influenced by the times we lives in but there is a line between flirt and harrassment and that line is really blurry here.
One other thing that I don't understand is the hate of the Ancient Race. The guy is all about don't trust others and all, he didn't even see the ancient race that he already hate them because of what others told him. If he really compare the japanese with the ancient race, not only does he insult japanese, he also insult conjointed twins.A little thing that I found amusing : there is this girl who blames the Jun Family and want to kill all of them (Lady Yue'er) for killing his father and grand father and the MC thinks it's absurd to blame the all family for that and I quote : "The duty of a soldier had always been to fight for their country. Dying on the battlefield should be the greatest honor for any soldier. But if the family members of every soldier who died on the battlefield went to look for the enemy general for revenge, the world would really go chaotic" then why don't you apply the same logic to yourself ?
I just finished the novel and to see that we even have homophobic content at the end. The guy has a ferret as main wife, has his sister-in-law as a concubine conveniently "forced" to r*pe her because of aphrodisiac (which I must say is not really an innovation for xianxia novels: MC "forced" to lose is v**ginity of course with a beauty because when he takes it there is just the beauty that is needed near) but has a problem with homosexuality...

[collapse]

To sum up, racism, homophoby, phalocracy, r*pe. Of course it was canceled ! Fengling Tianxia I don't care what you think, don't put it in your novel !
