Forced to disguise herself as a boy just so she could inherit her deceased father’s premium military benefits, Ling Lan’s journey to adulthood was full of challenges. After much difficulty, she finally turned sixteen when she could drop the charade. But before she could grasp her newfound freedom to get married and start her own family, a twist of fate results in her being thrown into the Federation’s top military boys’ school.

- MC is intelligent. Even though she is strong, she's also very observant and detail oriented. This is always a plus in novels for me.
Cons:Honestly that's the only good point in this novel for me, I really can't think of anything else.
- Info dumps are never concise. Always rambling on about something, lacking in structure, completely random. It does nothing but hinder the enjoyment of the story without actually adding something of value. The author will always go into detail about every insignificant detail, which never receives any attention down the line.
- The novel lacks structure and direction. In the beginning its fine, the main character is still a toddler and world building is the biggest focus. But the school arc just grinds the entire story to a halt. Who are these characters? Why do we, the readers, have to get to know them? I thought the MC just wanted a quiet life. How come she's going to meddle and make herself stand out? And then we get to the point where I dropped it. Half the word count is taken up by supporting or irrelevant characters. Meanwhile the main character has gotten very, very little character development, but now we will focus on 20 different people. Makes zero sense to me.
- Time skips and pacing. Oh boy I love random events taking forever to read through, only to get a simple time skip for the main story line. Oh boy I love reading about the main character struggling to improve herself and get stronger. Wait haha I wish. Instead there's another time skip and a brief description on what really happened.
- Mumbo jumbo scifi speak that doesn't even bother to make sense. Genes becoming mediocre because someone in the family was too strong so it soaked up all the potential? That's not how genes work. Yet everyone still cares about genes? What did we just learn though? So nothing really matters?
- You can skip every other chapter in the school arc. I'm not kidding. I skipped every chapter that didn't have the main character in it, and the story progressed as normal. This is a big red flag.
I may have been spoiled by Lord of the Mysteries, because I started reading this novel after finishing LotM. Honestly just try reading the novel for yourself and see if you can spot some of the issues I've raised, or maybe find enough plot holes to sink a continent.-
- Story is decent, it's enjoyable to see a futuristic fantasy setting (at least some sort of sci-fi element which is rare for xianxia novel)
-
- It slightly explores the theme of a predominantly male-dominated world and misogyny but it's not very good (but at least something)
-
- Instead of being 'girls are actually strong as well', it kinda turns into 'girls have to be boys in order to be strong' - defeating the whole purpose of having a female protagonist.
Cons:
