A very good example of classic isekai-harem novel with RPG elements. If you are into the genre, you're almost guaranteed to like Death March. Has its flaws, definitely, but still a very good read.

On the other hand, if you don't like "s*upidly powerful protagonist in fantasy world with harem he totally friendzones", don't even start reading it.

You know, I didn't realize how much I loved isekais, no matter how much of a trope it was, until I started the anime for this, I loved the concepts that it had in it like you can learn skills as you trained with them and then by using points (which I hadn't seen till watching it). However I was so sad by the anime ending so soon, so I wanted to be in this world more. This then inspired me to read the manga for it, which sadly was... more>> behind the anime and only just recently caught up to it plot wise. I then learned while looking up the name for it this novel updates page, and to be honest I used to be a huge reader a while ago, but I had lost the spark for a long time and haven't had the desire to read anything really, I didn't find it to be as worthwhile anymore. When I started reading this though it helped me regain that spark and I avidly read as often as I can, whether it be manga, light novels, or web novels. All because I found this one (series? Book? Story?) Story.

Note, I am by no means saying it is perfect, it has it's faults like everything, but I love it for what it does right and see that it doesn't horribly screw up what it does wrong, at least as far as I have noticed. <<less

First of all, for those wondering, this is not a true harem. MC slowly but steadily becomes much more of a guardian figure for the girls, and finds his soulmate outside of his close circle of companions. Moreover, he's pretty adamant about it and talks straight about his love interest. Which is great, in my honest opinion. Well, moving on...

Death March had a bit of a rough start. I myself was pretty dissappointed with MC is some early events, but I'm glad I endured and kept on for the sake... more>> of other cast members. In the end, sticking with it was so worth my time. And while this novel does deserve some criticism, in the end of the day, it offsets almost every one of those with it's incredible variety and actually interesting worldbuilding.

Without a shadow of a doubt, the main thing DeathMarch has to offer is variety. Sometimes you might notice, that even fairly good novels has a problem of making characters or events distinguishable. Slice of life novels can be very much guilty of this, and DesuMachi's pie-chart-of-genres has SoL as quite a prominent piece. But disregarding genre definitions...

Let's say you've read a fantasy/comedy novel about lack of common sence and headaches of the people who try their hardest to offset MCs eccentric behavior. Supporting cast always buisy, always doing something... but we never get specifics. "So much paperwork" or "He/she was almost overworked to death". Do we really need to know more? It wouldn't hurt to have at least some details. Tell us what happened, who did what in couple of simple statements. But alot of authors don't want to go out of their comfort zone and give us those details, or give them in the most boring way possible. That's why I think novels like Duke's Daughter or the tale of Eliza Kaldia were (and are) just that great. Well, they specifically weren't comedies about lack of common sence, but you get the picture. They give us details. And if you, by any chance, think like me on this matter, oh boy does DeathMarch have variety in spades...

Reading about Satou and Co's travels, social interactions, different lands and different cultures was never stale. Almost every free moment filled with something, be it exploration, new crafting experiments, learning about the world MC came to, slice-of-life and/or fluffy moments, bits of lore or just some random events. And those never outstay their welcome, so you won't be stuck for hundreds of chapters reading just about crafting or cooking, which is a great thing.

The background and supporting characters too have quite a variety. Sure, some are a bit one-dimensional, but even still, they're doing their job. Some are foils for MC and his group, some are allies. Novel got bonus poins from me for not making every kinda-antagonistic character loose to him in some way. Couple just went 'eh, screw it, I don't care' and continued on with their lives. It's kind of refreshing. Also, many of Satou's companions change while the story goes on. Not all of them change for the best, but the change itself is a welcome thing.

Spoiler

- Lisa goes from a shunned s*ave to a cold and proud warrior with her own code of honor, but acquring some bits of hubris along the way. Never giving in to the pressure, yet fierce when someone badmouthes her lord. It's a joy seeing her stand tall and unflinching, in a '*sob* she matured so much' sort of way.
- Tama and Pochi, while still being cheerful children they were, found their own ways to grow and new hobbies, as well as attachments. They are the fluffy things that stalk the night... and warm our black shriveled hearts.
- Arisa... Arisa. She's awesome throughout. Moving on.
- Most drastic change of all, Lulu, becomes much more confident in herself, end even somehow detached from her previous troubles, used to strife and death. Where that timid and burdened by low self-esteem girl went? The change is... a bit creepy, honestly. But still nice.
- Mia is by far the most boring of characters. Loli-elf-magicial who also c*ckblocks as a hobby. And while reading Arisa's exploits was really fun, Mia... just excists. So I'll just leave her be.
- Nana's newfound motherly instincts are pretty fun to read about, they add quite a bit of depth to her. Also, breast physics.

[collapse]

And while variety is the spice of universe, worldbuilding of Death March is it's meat. The world of this novel feels ancient and expansive. Even if at first MC gets some clues about a particular event, but can't discover the whole thing, the scraps of knowledge pile up until they are fleshed out with new facts or rumors. But there are always some breadcrumbs, some bits of lore that are left for later date, and almost none of them are useless. Stuff that happened before Satou's arrival WAS, IS and WILL be relevant for the world at large. Sure, his actions (both direct and indirect) change situation, but he isn't the only one who has the power to affect the flow of events. At the time of his travels he meets or hears about dozens of named characters, who will most likely show up later on. Almost none of those are completely irrelevant. They might not take a huge part in the latter events, but they are there, mostly alive and mostly well (depends, actually), and some even take their own jorney of change and discovery. In the end of the day, you might see huge cast of background characters as a bad thing, but in my honest opinion, they just make the world feel populated and show us how grand the whole picture is.

There were alot of small events or bits of knowledge which showed up long before they got their resolutions later down the line. Just a few of many, MANY examples:
Spoiler

- In one of the earlier disscussions with Lisa, MC finds out that she and her kinsmen were ens*aved by the weaselkin and sold off. 'But does it matter to us?' It does, as it turns out. We knew about this fact almost from the start, but it sat there, waiting for it's time. And later on not only do we find out that this event was but one of many similar ones, we even get the perspective of the ruler of weasels himself.
- Satou get's confused with the Hero pretty early on, but we meet actual person quite a number of arcs after. Other people, who looked similar to MCs appearance at the time of crysis, later got a bit of a screentime (pagetime?) too.
- MC buys a child's toy at the flea market before he leaves the first town, but it's creator plays some role in some much later events.
- Before MC and his group arrive at the Muno's territory, we hear about local lord's ongoing strife with the invading kobolds. This gets it's mini-arc too, but not before ALOT of things happened in the meantime.
- The whole godly buisness was hinted to us at multiple occasions, yet only in the resent arcs Satou goes further into this matter.

[collapse]

All in all, if you (like me) enjoy to read isekai for the sake of escapism and interesting worldbuilding, this is THE novel for you. I will wholeheartedly recomend it to anyone with such cravings. Just... get past the starting arcs. It gets SO much better, it's not even funny. Maybe just a bit. <<less

well~ death march is novel that make you think about the whole story to make you more know what author's intention to give to you, so if you don't get it you shouldn't just say that this novel is the worst or something, because that is about preference about like and dislike, so don't blaber whatever you want, just go off from this novel and search another novel that you think good and realize that whatever you say will be not reducing reader that really love this novel.

so~ if you... more>> don't like death march and just critize it, why don't you make your own novel and find out how difficult it is to develop the story to be accepted to the business world and society. (^_^*) <<less

The story is a general take on isekai op MC genre with a few twist.

Pro: MC is mature, laidback. He has his problem but none are deal breaking for me. Supporting cast is fun, diverse and frankly you probably gonna care more for them. Story is a carefree picnic like journey. Many WTF moment. Best as fun, lighthearted read. Update weekly.

Cons: Very op, botherline omnipotent MC, absolutely no drama or suspense, Also this is a harem story so if you dislike that this aint for you

Writing: 8/10

Entertainment: 9/10

Story: 7/10

... more>> Overall: 8.5/10 (Recommended to read if you don't know any other reading of isekai genre)

Opinion: If you're into Isekai genre (Transfered/reincarnated to another world), heartwarming harem, lots of cute loli, love cooking manga (This novel called Shokugeki no Death march for a reason), 'okay' romance, and Overpowered MC, then this novel is for you. Lots of cliche, but overshadowed by the entertainment value. The author knows what to do to keep us interested on the plot. All in all,

I highly suggest to read this if you haven't read much isekai genre. The lesser cliche isekai term, the more you will enjoy this. Another reason is because the translated chapter has reach more than 10, so it'll be a while till you find another readings. <<less

Okay, so I'll be honest here. This story is a bit of a mixed bag, and I'll give a few reasons why. The MC successfully travels around and is op. The reasons I don't like this novel (there are a few) include:the bullsh*t level system. I mean, every time you level up, you gain 10 points, not so much a problem with that as the fact that the MC gets incredibly random skills, he uses points on worthless skills, he doesn't use points on good abilities until he actually needs... more>> them. Honestly, if that happened to you, wouldn't you sit down for an hour and max out all the important combat skills so you don't DIE?! I was practically screaming at the MC every time he got a useful skill and only put 1-2 points in it just so he had it. The author also doesn't really keep track of the skills in the story, like using a blue screen from rr. The author essentially doesn't keep track of the skill points, and only used the beginning as an excuse to make the MC op and able to use points for anything without leveling.

The next thing is the so called 'romance and harem'. MC has a part full of women, and goes full beta. Seriously, he doesn't progress with any of them. All of them are his s*aves and act pretty 1 dimensional. Seriously, 2 of them are lolis so I suppose it makes sense, one is a lizard girl who only acts as a guard, one is a loli who literally tries to f*ck him whenever she can and he THROWS HER OUT every damn time!!! And her sister would probably go along with whatever he asked as well! Seriously, beta MC's piss me off!

Gah, seriously, this could be a really good story, but his overwhelming tendency to be beta concerning his girls, and an idiot concerning his status points really ruins the story in my eyes.

Seriously, I wish he was more like the MC in smartphone in another world. That MC is a badass, who doesn't intentionally go showing off, but also doesn't hide the fact that he's badass. He also doesn't act beta concerning his girls, he doesn't intentionally go around adding to his harem, but he does take responsibility for any that end up liking him. Seriously, that MC makes that story a pleasure to read. The beta and status point idiocy makes this story less of a pleasure and more of a burden, so much so that I dropped the story. <<less

More or less a slow-paced hero saga.

This is SLOW. It is NOT 'Slice of life' as many claim.

I can see due to the frequent 'shifted focus' & 'bumped up priority' of the MCs selfish mundane bs that it may seem like 'slice of life'-- but it's really just plotted very slow & constantly interrupted.

There is an overriding plot which even the MC acknowledges (as it would interfere with his important 'food & friends' life) - so, despite the author's frequent focus elsewhere (mostly food) - it's not that... more>> it's 'slice of life', so much as the MC (& the author) don't really care about the 'actual' imminent threats (till they feel like it/have to).

Maybe the author just couldn't think of anything & filled it with junk. We'll never know.

Overall the story is actually a little better than average- if you can get past how much of an ass the MC frequently is.

The Good:

  • For an OP 'non-hero' hero saga, the author maintains challenge vs power levels acceptably. This relates specifically to powers & battle tactics- nothing more. Everything else is badly distributed.
  • Interesting events. Nothing 'new', but acceptably handled.
  • The humor occasionally works well.
  • Turns into a food based eating/cooking novel, punctuated with occasional action.
The Bad:

  • Turns into a food based eating/cooking novel, punctuated with occasional action.
  • The author is fixated on lolis, and has the MC denies his interest constantly, though it's pretty much the female roster of notable characters with a few exceptions.
  • It's a faux harem. A bunch of the above mentioned lolis (& a few 'adults') like/love him- mostly 'just cause'.
  • The MC is very much some strange author construct- with enough 'nice guy' so you don't hate him, but really a passive-aggressive & selfish jerk in many other respects. He's much a hypocrite (self-admitted), and inconsistent as well. He also does a fair bit of manipulation & trust betrayal- which is presented in a 'as long as no one finds out' type 'innocent/good intention' style of thing. Ah- if that sounds refreshing compared to your classic 'dense' MCs or 'herbivore' MCs- don't get your hopes up- he can do those too when the situation warrants it...
    Spoiler

He forces one of the girls to diet unilaterally, and another who doesn't like meat, he starts to sneak meat into her food. These are people who he _knows_ love him & he won't so much as kiss...

    • Female characters:
      • Become loyal followers regardless of original intent. Fall for him.
      • If married or background char they don't fall for him.
    • Male characters:
      • if hostile; either
        • die or
        • are ruined/rendered non-hostile.
      • if non-hostile they admire him & offer him one or more of:
        • daughters (sometimes forcing them on him)
        • noble positions/wealth (sometimes forcing them on him)
        • s*aves
        • secrets/services
        • etc- without many exceptions. Support characters aren't _bad_, but they're pretty cookie cutter & none see any real development other than falling for him somehow, or increasing in power enough to keep up with him.
-Ok, I guess they are pretty bad...
      • [collapse]
.

  • As it develops, it acquires way too many characters. After a while I stopped trying to remember who was whom when they brought back someone long forgotten, and surprisingly, it didn't matter-- seems everyone is pretty much in a few categories of 'story prop'
  • Game-style leveling, skills, & 'gamey' plot developments / complications. Later on, unseeded but 'convenient' skills/powers develop sporadically in characters. "if you stop to wonder 'Why/How did that happen', it'll get annoying.
    Spoiler

Tama (a stereotypical beast girl, who 'plays as' a ninja due to the stories/coaxing of Arisa, eventually demonstartes shadow clones and shadow walk- 'just cause'. No, they have no related skills/magic. They don't need them apparently.

    [collapse]
  • The author's view of 'world balance' is pretty bad, with things being 'low level' mostly, till something 'insurmountable' pops up. The standards what is of 'low level', etc- changes quite a bit as well (but is always unrealistic).
    Spoiler

We definitely won't get into how the 'world balance' allows for the leveling cheats he exploits, and the lackadaisical management of the gods, who clearly talk to people, grant them powers (even ones they cheated to gain) but apparently don't tell them to do much as far as 'helping' the world vs threats.

    [collapse]
  • The 'power creep', where later things must be more powerful than earlier things is pretty spotty. Chapter 15 in particular is a 'deux ex' nightmare of 'suddenly more powerful' showcases.
  • The enemies are super-cliche. Even worse:

    Spoiler

The main arc slowly becomes trapped in the more cliche 'villains know everything/have many advantages' template common to many 'hero against all odds' novels. Even though all kingdoms have spies and don't want to suffer the gods wrath- none know sh*t about anything. I don't mean specifically 'the bad guy's diabolical plan'- I mean basic crap- like knowledge about the gods/powers/their own advanced expertise, and any form of research within their ow safe fields.

For the MC to not know crap is fine if he's an independent/low resource hero- but it's a significant oversight for the MC who has tons of connections & deep pockets (just to start).

Of course he's a selfish, food-focused jerk- but even so it takes a disturbingly long time for him to get interested in crap that affects everyone's life- including his own. His selfish desire to put things off almost leads to really bad things happening in Ch 15. Of course, 'plot armor'- but it's irritating for a few moments.

    [collapse]
  • The author learns obnoxious cliffhanger breaks by ch 15.
  • Events are skewed in the MCs already OP favor by making things somehow convenient in various ways for him, all the time. Even things that could be bad for him just give him more skills/resources.
    Spoiler

I'd note an example, but seriously- this happens pretty much from the start & constantly thereafter. You can't miss it.

    [collapse]
  • Suffers from 'sci-fi' encroachment later on.
    Spoiler

(Who am I kidding? If it becomes a 'VR-fantasy' game world created by high tech at the end I won't be surprised.)

That aside, characters bringing modern weapons is one thing (it happens), but there's a definite 'City/Dungeon cores are computers' feel, and going into space and seeing the planet is probably a give away- as well. We won't get into the 'alternate Earths' that can be summoned from that they touch on occasionally, since it'd take too long. These aren't concepts 'forbidden' to be in fantasy- but the presentation feels quite sci-fi.

    [collapse]
  • The art is pretty 'meh' & doesn't really reflect the characters. No biggie, though.
The different:

  • The author's apparent intentional choice to make such a duplicitous & hypocritical main character. He's almost a sociopath to be honest- but he's really just short-sighted and selfish (when he's not being kind and helpful). Other than that, he's just another OP Gary Stu.
    Spoiler

I seriously think the author is trolling in some weird way- or maybe he doesn't realize how s*upid his broken logic is when comparing 'loving faux harem (he won't even flirt with) ' vs 'sneak off to sleep with a prostitute (he manages not to pay for) ' action. wtf? Ok, so despite lolis being legal (in this world), he wants to hold off- fine- I can respect that. s*avery? Just roll with it- let's sell crime s*aves while we're at it. But the clincher is one of his 'devotees' is an adult (elf), one looks adult (homonculus) and one is (like him) just in a younger body (we'll leave alone that by his own standards, he had those prostit**es doing the shota thing- cause no sense being a hypocrite in just one way...)

I'm pretty certain the author is milking this (stretching out the story). I don't blame him (I guess), but I have no doubt the MC's 'relationship progress stalling' actions, and focus on food are just bs 'filler' justifiers to draw out the story. At first I figured they were just stalling due to lack of development/ideas ('I can't think what to do next! Oh, I now- I'll have them cook some FOOD!'-- but I don't think that's it anymore (or at least not the only issue)

Now, I can't 'prove' what's in the author's head, but when the 'main girl' in a story suddenly says 'make 100 girls pregnant' & THEN I'll tell you how to make me pregnant (become a god) - you KNOW that as 'proof of love', that's some serious bs.

And the fact that it justifies 'god knows how much' supposed 'moral thrashing' from a guy who only sleeps with prostit**es...

Well, we can now reasonably expect this story to NEVER END (or at least till the author's milked it dry)

Yeah, sure Author- whatever you want...

    [collapse]
I started to read this more with the curiosity to see what drove the reviews to be as polarized as they are- and now I get it. Further, the comments in the chapters are even more divided, as the MC does his 'It would take me 5 minutes to save their lives, but it's out of my way' schtick- and the comments then fall into 'he's an ass' & 'he owes nobody nothing' camps.

Spoiler

The worst thing is the MC knows he's doing wrong, as he talks about guilt once in a while- so basically he's trying to do as little as his conscience can handle- but with people right in front of him, he always 'kicks in'- but any distance away, and he'll claim to leave them to their fate- even if the situation would escalate in his absence. He has no 'vision'. Of course, the plot draws him in conveniently one way or the other- but there are a bunch of people who love the idea of a badass OP MC sitting around cooking crepes while people die elsewhere because 'not his job'. I can see the 'anti-white knight' justification, as it is an overused archetype- but being an ass isn't cool, ok?

Or more 'The worst thing is the Author knows he's doing wrong...'

Well- it's his thing to to enrich or ruin.

Another thing people keep citing is 'cultural differences'- as if Japanese people are ok with prostit**es, sneaking around, and insincere relationships. It's true they tolerate things they can't control more, saying 'can't be helped'- especially if there's a difference in status, but that doesn't mean they like it- they're just powerless to do anything, or it's considered 'rude'.

The MC being surrounded with people who he pretty much ignores the true feelings of- instead being intimate with random prostit**es at a moment's n0tice... The girls don't realize how lucky they are not to get involved with him.

Well, I'm talking like he's a character with a personality- but I suspect like any other Gary Stu, he's just one of the weirdest author foils out there.

[collapse]

So, should you read it?

Eeeeeeeeh.

It's likable but nothing to jump at. It really boils down to how much the MC irritates you- the rest of the story is pretty formula, and a step above average, but barely. I'll keep reading it, but I don't expect much though I do find it enjoyable at various times. I also find it ret*rded at others, but that's most of the genre...

The MC does seem to get better over time, but I suspect it's more an issue of 'different circumstances' (that give less opportunity to illustrate) than actual change- but we'll see in 2-3000 chapters if the author has his way...

Give it a try, it's passable- I just don't put it at the top of my list.

Your mileage may vary. <<less

Excelent! First web (?) novel I've ever read in my life and I loved every second of it. Outlining characters are all well developed, the story progresess slowly but behind every corner is a reason for you to stay and read it. The translators do an amazing job literarly no gramatic or spelling mistakes in 200+ chapters. Japanese idioms are used here sparingly but still if you read even one manga you should feel right at home reading this. I cant make you read this novel by no means, but... more>> I can recomend it as a safe read for those that want a warmer story but with a bit epic background infront of it. I know the novel starts weak but progresively it becomes stronger. Quite a page turner. <<less

This novel will either be a hit or miss with a lot of people and I mean A LOT OF PEOPLE. There is an extreme emphasis on "slice of life" here as this novel is basically the daily life of an overpowered MC touring a fantasy world. So if you are looking for something relaxing and just overall good time then this novel is it. There are fights between gods, demon lords, and heroes as you would expect from an action adventure fantasy but with a very lay back vibe... more>> to it. Even the MC himself considered the hero aspect as a side job. The plot line is very straight forward (plot line: touring a fantasy world) and anything more in depth is hidden with foreshadowing and clues that eventually builds up to it because the main focus of the novel is the light and fluffy mood and will continue to be so.

I do highly recommend anyone to read the other reviews including the negative reviews to get a feel for the novel because I don't want to be bias as their reasoning are understandable. Do remember though, as I mention before there is an extreme emphasis on "slice of life" so please keep that in mind when considering this novel. <<less

Pleasantly surprised by this one, the protagonist is so close to the usual "bland" japanese MC, but in this novel, it seems to work.

It helps that he doesn't act as a h**ny teen imposing himself on his s*aves despite having been a working member of the society for a few years already.

MC is OP as hell, which does take away most of the "tension" that demon lord-level enemies should be bringing, but the writer is skilled enough to make the world and characters come to life a bit (they are... more>> still a bit flat though), and I had fun reading about the protagonist and his followers tour the world for fun in a world that is supposed to be full of chaos and destruction from demons appearing left and right.

It's not perfect, and I can see where a lot of the criticism comes from (yes, it's slow, yes, we have a "bland" and "coward" MC with god-like powers), but it did mesh with what I wanted to read these days. <<less

On a scale of 1 to 5
Action: 3
-MC is OP. Even his companions is OP.
Adventure: 3
-Sightseeing is better to be said than adventure.
Comedy: 3
-only on the part where MC is lack of otherworldly common sense.
Spoiler

eg: nonchalantly cooking in a dungeon while his companions is fighting using mithril cooking set

[collapse]
Ecchi: 2
-It's elementary grade ecchiness. If you into loli it will be on scale of 4.
Fantasy: 5
-it has dragon, unicorn, elf, dwarves etc
Harem: 3
-MC's harem society is getting larger by volume and sadly losing their personal characteristics.
Slice of life:5
-it's turning into cooking novel at some point.
Giving 4 on review since I enjoyed the comments on the translation chapter. And the story plot piqued my interest.

One of my favorite stories. Brings a smile to my face.

Slice-of-life, cuteness, comedy and dungeon crawling. Chill OP MC takes a world vacation with his adopted isekai family. Chapters are well-written with very little fat and you never quite know what to expect. I enjoy reading the source as well for the added enjoyment of the japanese language quirks that don't translate well into english. Also, Tama and Pochi are justice.

The translator is a beast. Consistent, regular, decent quality releases over a long period of time for a japanese title... more>> feels rare these days, especially given how long the chapters are. Burnout usually sets in pretty quickly so I don't bother starting many new japanese WNs (Chinese WNs tend to be easier to translate).

Rated 3 to 4 stars before the Labyrinth City arc (volume 10), 5 stars after (scratched my RPG itch). Enjoyable to re-read.

1 star reviewers are self-inserting too hard into the MC. If you go into the story expecting a standard Xianxia plot or softcore p*rn harem, you're gonna have a bad time. <<less

After finish vol. 5 I decided it is time to drop this novel. Second novel I ever drop, first is Silver Cross and Draculea. My reason for dropping is that the MC is a pain to look at. He had the power to fight off everyone, but won’t use it. Like when that Elf (forgot her name) got kiddnap right in his eyes... he do nothing and let her get taken away and after that make his move. Hate this kind of MC the most. Badass MC are those like... more>> Hifumi from Summon Slaughter. <<less

This is one of the first novels that I read and I remember that when I first readed Death March I gave the story an 5/10, but then after many other novels that I finish reading I can say that Death March is at least an 8/10, most of the web novels are poorly writed and the cast outside of the main character and maybe 1 or 2 at maximum side character are boring and a few weeks after I finish reading I dont even remember their names anymore, but... more>> with Death March you have enough to enjoy and like a ton of characters and you WILL remember their names, at least for me outside of all the main characters Mia is the only completely useless one, and even then I still remember her by beeing useless, the only thing that I don't like about Death March is the end of the story which for me is uter garbage, but the whole story outside of the last arch is worth it enough to read. <<less

I would rate this novel a solid 8.5/10 since it's clearly more of an original isekai genre novel series compared to most series that are being pumped out en masse today. Here's a few reasons why I enjoyed this story and why it's not as bad as some make it out to be!

  • The main character is overpowered. That's a standard but that doesn't necessarily mean that he's going to abuse his authorities or powers like some power-drunk fool for the remainder of the story. He's logical, he enjoys traveling, and is trying to piece together why he even is in this world in the first place. He has a goal, although he can get sidetracked like a lot of isekai protagonists, but in the end, accomplishes in learning why he has been transported to this world.
  • The harem romance is somewhat existent but the more important aspect of the harem is that it adds to the plot. In most newer isekai novels, harem members are just a bunch of yes-men who just agree that the protagonist is always right and whatever he does is automatically "unique" or "cool". Although the protagonist does show these qualities, the harem members provide support to the plot and background of the novel as well as actually provide valuable input to the main character when needed. It's a fair balance between harem-like romance and actual character development between them all.
  • The plot itself is overall unique and provides a good amount of world building. There's gods and multiple races involved in the plot in which each of these side quests that the main character takes provides a bit more information about the races each time.
  • I think it's just a good-read if you like the genre of isekai and want a somewhat light-hearted story with comedic, adventure, harem, and action elements all intertwined together.

Thanks for posting the extra chapters I didn't know those existed. I was a bit sad to see that the web novel got finished but with the extra chapters I am glad that I get to see parts of the characters lives after the end of the main story. Even though I haven't read the whole main story yet because I want to know what happens when reading the light novels. I read up to the 14th arc of the web novel. I just wanted to read the extra chapters... more>> and love the ones about Satou or members of his team. I hope the light novels put those extra chapters into a light novel or 2 to show what happened after the main story finished just to wrap up somethings that might not of been wrapped up in the main story line. <<less

For the people who criticize the MC for not corresponding the feelings of his harem, remember that although he looks like a teenager, he is in his thirties and into older women, the girls there are more like daughters. Please don't be a degenerate.

This is the One Piece of Isekai. It's one of the best and long standing isekai to date, The story has some pacing problems and a little bit of plot holes but overall it's a very good read. The world building is amazing, the (main only) characters are pretty fleshed out and are surprisingly likeable. One of the biggest problem is the pacing, for an isekai it's quite slow but this is a Slice-of-life type of story but with some nice drama and fights in between that's why it's feels... more>> numbing to read the Sol aspects of the novel cause you just want to read the next arc, even though the writing isn't bad The main character is the avatar of GOD himself tho so it got that dragon balls type of progression where the villains just get more and more ridiculous powerful. Overall it's a great Isekai novel and a great Light novel but it soooooooo long and the Sol aspect is REALLY boring. Imagine reading One Piece but we have 3 fillers arc in between each Main arcs. If you like the sol than this is a really great read if you don't than just skip the sol chapters. It really has earned the 4.0 rating on this site <<less
