The Reborn Otaku’s Code of Practice for the Apocalypse

Description

Lacking a pocket dimension, power, a thigh to hug onto, and the three life advantages (money, power, and looks), he had been cautiously living in the apocalypse for ten years, getting closer to falling inside the zombie’s mouths.

Unexpectedly, he had the terrible luck, to be caught in a fight between two gangs and die, it really left people feeling disappointed. When he opened his eyes, he had returned to a decade ago, three months before the apocalypse!

Like before he still lacked an ability, an ordinary person without a pocket dimension, but he did have ten full years of experience living in the apocalypse! Even if he didn’t fight zombies, didn’t hunt monsters, he could still live a carefree farming life in the safe zone.

Find a safe house, utilise all kinds of skills from his previous life to farm in exchange for meat, and if possible, find a person to peacefully spend the rest of his life with; ordinary people had their own ordinary little pieces of happiness.

Originally believing he had picked up a beauty he returned home to prepare a golden house, but on the contrary he was the one being pushed down……someone once said, whether it is people or matters, by no means can you only look at the surface!

This novel is one of my absolute favorites! It was one of the very first web novels that I read and I have to say I am a sucker for slice of life stories. I loved how teamwork and friendship were strongly featured in the novel. The MC and ML are just like an old married couple and very supportive of each other. Although it is not tagged, I love the little baby that they pick up later on as well! Overall a must-read if you love slice-of-life.

I really suck at grammar so, sorry for this mess! ≪3

I have currently completed the novel and, I have to say I loved it! Although the ending was somewhat abrupt; I would've loved to see a continuation!

Of their child! Or well adopted child- anyways.

It's actually pretty weird kind of story that I enjoyed it enough, even though... It doesn't have any significant plot.

Yeah. 250+ chapters and there's no overarching plot. LMAO.

Moving on, it just tells the story of MC being reborn to the past, and he sort of reorganize his past to live a better life. Along the way he collects his boyfriend, another group of Otaku, two women, and... A nephew.

... more>> That's it. He doesn't need to change the world because without his participation, the number of zombies can also decreased.

The short premise is that: the world come to a new beginning: people turn into zombies or ability users, and animal also the same. And that's it. The MC is building his own home to survive, at first at the base but the base kind of f*cked up, so they move on.

Well, I still enjoy the slice of life and I played Harvest Moon so you kind of get my idea. <<less

Really good journey into the apocalypse ? Liked the main CP and side CP as well...

Spoiler

It felt like the women settled (well they would considering the limits fish pool..) for those guys.... the guys are fine but I think I would have preferred them being lesbo than being with one of the men...I think the author did a "let's get all the women preggers" plot at the end...??

Would totz recommend reading ?

Thanks for translating ?

So good. I loved it. It wasn't about power of bad MC being all knowing. Yes he still had an advantage with his knowledge but he didn't automatically know when certain events happen. No he had realistic amount of info to go on. Loved it. Honestly when he took in that baby I kept thinking is it going to be the little boy he tried to save in the beginning. Would have been cool but this is better. hey crazy theory but the sonhalf brothers power being able to control... more>> plants and dead. I wonder if there is a person controlling the zombies hence the waves the smart attacks but unlike the son went mad and even when he did evolve at that point he just hated humans. That core they handed to the boy was the person's core who behind everything. Guessing su*cide or madness if they could control plants then shouldn't they survived them. Then again I am tired and I just 're read it might be reading way to much into it but there was these snippets the whole story of something else happening behind the scenes. Of a greater power controlling them. <<less

Absolutely fantastic! Giving this 5-star because it's rare for a novel to be consistent in their writing.

It's more about the daily life of MC and people who gathered around him live in apocalyptic world. Farming, cooking, zombie slaughtering etc. It's described well in the novel, it's a relaxing read.

The relationship between the characters are nice too, no complicated conflicts and unnecessary drama, the only thing I'd like to complain-- the story is too short! I didn't expect that 200 chapters isn't enough, I want to read more. But oh well,... more>> the ending is concluded nicely, I'd love to read more extras but without those it's still a good novel.

I wish there's more novel like this around, there are some similar but later on it'll be filled with too much plot/drama that took away the farming/cooking/building <<less

the book is mainly about mc's daily life in a zombie apocalypse. Not much is shown about the romance. It got kind of boring for me since there wasnt any major plot developments except for when they moved their base.

It's a good story. I really loved the fact that the main character was normal and not an ability-user. And also that he didn't want to participate in political struggle/get rich/ revenge after being reborn. It was nice and the interactions between the team gave me a warm feeling.

I just wished for some more interesting plot twists in between - I know, it's slice of life, but what's a normal life in the apocalypse??

Nevertheless I give this 5 stars because I think that this novel does a lot of things... more>> better than many others. Additionally I probably would not have been so bored while reading the descriptions of renovating and farming if I had better English skills. If you're not a practical person and not a native speaker, these detailed descriptions can get you confused.? <<less

I've read this so many times. Its a very good novel. Not too heavy. People who likes slice of life will definitely like this. No angst, no revenge or anything. Just them trying to survive the apocalypse with MC's past knowledge and farming. I really liked how they made MC and the other members ordinary people. It really puts you in a new light since most MC are powerful. They gay parts are plus points too.

This is my favourite for apocalypse type novel for now. Maybe its not really full with action but the plot is relaxing for me to enjoy the stories whenever I am in stress and want to read something that not have too heavy plot. MC in this novel is my favourite so far as he is different from other MC in all novels that I ever read. He is matured and always has rational thinking in most situation and not allow his temperament affect his decision. My favourite part is... more>> when ML really supportive, protective and give hand in making decision. ML shows that he really understand his lover - when he only give help when MC really need it. Plus, his team members respect him and their loyalty regardless MC without having any special ability really highlighted the important of MC roles in this novel. For me MC in this novel is so cool! ≪3 <<less

I really enjoyed this novel. It’s not so action-packed as other novels.

The plot felt more realistic or a bit like slice-of-life because of the “average” MC.

The MC is not powerful, but he is also not super knowledgeable. He just have enough knowledge or experience from his 10-years of life in his previous life to use after his rebirth.

It felt realistic for me because the MC is an average person. His actions (and other people’s actions) was realistic. I know some people may be dissatisfied with the “powerless” female characters may... more>> be, but the situation in the novel had a logical side to it.

Most of the time, novels focused on powerful characters and their side of the story while ignoring the more normal life of average people in the base. This novel is basically the opposite.

The only reason why I did 4 stars is because sometime there will be some grammar mistakes that make things a bit harder to understand. It’s not horrible, but there were lots of moments where I had to reread some sentences or figure out what the paragraph was implying. <<less

I wanted to chart my feelings as I read this novel... I will come back with a true rating and better review at a later date.

Spoiler

@Chapter 8: honestly, I don't like it so far. Therefore, obviously, I haven't fallen into this yet. For a apocalypse/rebirth novel, I understand the initial chapters will be the prep prior to the onset of the change, I suppose what is deterring me is the MC. Part of my feelings about the MC is definitely related to other reviews. I do think it is fresh that the MC has no abilities and still doing his best with what his has - skills from previous life. But from a rational perspective... There's nothing special about him. It's the apocalypse, everyone is doing their best to survive with what they have. Having abilit (ies) or not, it's not something that's controllable; so I can't give any credit to this MC for his lack.

Reading up to this point, I don't see how different this is from any other apocalypse/rebirth. Won't anyone that experience such a rebirth, do the same things as him and prepare/stock up? Some appreciate the fact he is self-sufficient - won't hug any thighs, etc. But let's be realistic, it's not easy to hug thighs. I can't see anything about him that would allow him to hug a thigh either. I feel that his skills make him a sheltered flower, he will always need protection. In truly harsh conditions (zombie waves, etc), where there will be a sacrifice, he has no advantage.

Finally two side notes where I am miffed by his personality: I cannot agree with his action of neglecting the puppy solely because he feels he should foster too much a relationship before knowing whether or not it will become a zombie. Though he later changes (as they play together to the days leading up to the start of the apocalypse) but these moments are lives in novels characterized. If he never changed his care towards the puppy, even if only domestication is needed for it to mutate, he doesn't deserve her. The second item I also feel some doubts on, is when he made a post of tips during an apocalypse... When he first started the tips, he wondered if it was too late or if it could help anyone. I felt like he only posted them to alleviate himself of some guilt from having reborn but haven't helped anyone; so after all his preparations are done, he then turns to making the post. Fearing something is late tends to go hand in hand with regret of not having done something sooner. During the posting process, he mentioned he didn't want to directly announce an apocalypse is coming, for fear or it being ignored without proof. While it might not be believed by many, it can't be denied that it can still reach some people and therefore, prompt the saving of more people (like he was concerned about, when making these posts). It then becomes rather hypocritical, in my opinion, that he then announces the coming of the apocalypse the day before. While the advice given in that last post is helpful, the delivery of the advice was poor in method and timing. At any other time, such a revelation would at least allow some people to believe what he's saying. The idea is: subconsciously, if people saw the claim before the day prior, they would at least stock up a bit more than usual or pay a bit more attention to his advice because there's no harm in doing that bit more (it's only a bit of time). However what he did, announcing it the day before, people would subconsciously deny it because of fear, because there's nothing that they can do (as it's almost here), so they would rather deny the whole thing. I'm fine with a cold, heartless MC. I'm fine with a partial MC. But he's just a bit too hypocritical for me.

This is the only BL Apocalypse novel I could completely read till the End and this was the best !!

But there is one thing that keeps bugging me

At the start of the novel there was a child who was being brought by MC and I keep thinking of him. I wanna know anything about him so I hope there is a sequel to this novel with that Child and MC "son".?

Wanna know more how those children progress in Apocalypse world!!

At first I was not really interested in this, I don't like zombies and this kind of setting but I bring myself to try and for my suprise I really enjoyed.

BUT it's true that at the beginning I dropped, the whole plot was to slow and I thought that it woulb be just that for the rest the history, but two weeks later I decided to give another try and read a little more because I knew how normal is for big novel with a lot of chapters start the... more>> action after some chapters.

I can say I'm not desappointed and actually very glad that I tried again, I'm currently reading and loving everything. If you like squad adventures, fights to protect belongins, farming and missions you are gonna love it, I usually don't like when there isn't a lot romance display, but with this one I didn't care, that being said the romance is good, but the plot is some well build that I couldn't care less about love hahahah. <<less

It’s amazing, it’s a slice of life farming type apocalyptic story which has a fluffy romance subplot, nice pacing, believable thought process (like they’re lucky but they’re not op ya know?) and it’s just a great read to pass the time with. It’s also hella cute and humorous at times. The fight scenes are not super action packed since they’re mainly on the defense and stuff but it’s believable and frankly not what we’re here for anyway so it’s entertaining enough :)

overall 9/10

Wow. This was excellent. I reread the entire the thing because of how much I enjoyed it. It was slow paced, logical and unpretentious. I really enjoyed the romance and how it was a regular person leading the group. This was a rebirth story that I may end up reading again and again.

This novel is really my type of novel.

If your expecting a lot of action, a lot of drama or a lovey-dovey couple as the main focus, you're not going to get that.

So I'd probably not recommend for people in a fight mood to read it, you'll probably find it quite slow paced.

The story mostly concentrates on the survival aspect of the apocalypse, how they rebuilt, tips and tricks they put in place to survive, etc...

Since I really love a good survival/slice of life this is my jam and jelly!

I do like this novel and I think the author is creative but it is very repetitive. Basically think of it like a base building game where you are constantly upgrading, rebuilding and expanding. This is pretty much the point of the novel. The MC and friends get new materials and abilities, but so does whatever the next threat is. Rinse, repeat.

Everyone but the main characters are living horrible lives because they are selfish, short sighted, powerless, unlucky... etc. I like the MC, but he is unrealistically good at most... more>> things. For a regular average Joe he has quite the golden thigh and seems to know all the right people. If the end of the world comes, he is the man you want to be friends with!

There are no explicit romantic interactions between characters. They might kiss and flirt, but it's pretty PG 13 if it even goes that far.

Spoiler

As a side note, I don't understand why water users are considered weak? It seems to me if a zombie attacks couldn't they just remove all the water from their joints so they atrophy and can't move? Or move all the water in the body to the neck with explosive force so they are decapitated or mushy enough to deal with easily? And if it was a human foe aren't there even more options? Like bursting capillaries to drown or blind? I know if someone filled my throat with a water globe I'd probably back away... I just don't see how a water user could be any less deadly than a wind user of equal strength. Maybe it's a form of sexism because the party's water user is a woman?
