In the spirit of humanitarian aid, to help his ex-boyfriends walk out from the shadow of heartbreak as soon as possible, every time before Ye Ming leaves a world after filling up the favorability value, he initiates a (heart) amicable (less) breakup with his boyfriend.

However, just when he finally saved up enough experience points after transmigrating to the nth world, he was notified by his system that all of his ex-boyfriends had blackened! The accumulated blackening value had exceeded the world’s critical levels, leading to the failure of all of his capture missions… he had to go back to those worlds and eliminate the blackening values for his missions to be considered complete!

Ye Ming: This is an outcome I didn’t predict.

System: I warned you early on that if you did this, you wouldn’t have a good end.

The ex-boyfriends all laughing coldly: He he. That despicable, shameless scum who ran away after deceiving me is finally back. This time, you have nowhere to run!

Ye Ming: …

System: The death you sought yourself, even if you kneel, you have to see it to the end.

Ye Ming: Luckily, I have a special whitewashing technique ^_^

This novel could be renamed "How to Create a Scum Gong" because MC is a scum gong creating machine haha. Most of the gongs end up being terrible, but then you remember it's lowkey because MC made them that way. MC really just digs endless pits for himself without even trying.

Note that this is the sequel to "Strategy to Capture that Scum Gong" and would highly recommend to read that first as this novel has big spoilers for the prequel and basically will TLDR the entire plot of that novel,... more>> so be warned if you want to enjoy the first novel without spoilers!

The premise of this novel is hilarious, albeit a bit dark. MC starts the novel as a world hopper trying to win a ML's heart, but as soon reaches 100% affection he gives the ML a "breakup surprise, " as MC is forced to leave the world three days after maxing affection. The decision to break ML's heart each time comes back to bite him when he's forced to return to each world to fix the plot, but I do respect MC's intention to try to make ML hate him since he'll have to disappear anyway.

This is also maybe the first QT novel I've read where MC doesn't realize ML is the same person, and is completely fine with romancing all of them back to back. I don't like harems but I didn't mind this kind of storytelling surprisingly enough. In MC's words:

"Well, c'est la vie. It was a struggle to be loved by everyone."

I feel like he's really trying so hard to be a scum shou when inside he's actually a good boy lol? The nonchalant and almost ridiculous commentary helps keep him sane through all the constant deaths and betrayals, I'm sure.

System provides the most deadpan, tired commentary, and I love it. It's so done with MC's antics and is just unwillingly watching the show unfold as MC does what he wants. A big mood. I do have to say though, I feel like the system is too harsh on MC as it's not like MC has any choice in the matter here? It's not like he can stay in the worlds and keep ML happy, so I really don't blame MC for trying to spare ML's mourning of his death the first time around. The whole situation is just cruel to begin with.

This novel is similar to "Strategy to Capture that Scum Gong" in that MC also method acts and really gets into the role, while his real thoughts aren't as evident until he's talking to his system. While his body is suffering, MC is having a great time (I don't buy it completely though), so the dog blood can be fully enjoyed. Alas, even though I knew it's all fake and MC was just pulling literal bullsh*t out of his ass, it still made me cry the first arc. Our boy is such a gaslighting king that he really had me believing whatever story he spun up to justify his scum actions. However, the drama is fake but the feelings are real, and though MC is making up a story it's still true that he does have to leave the ML in the end.

Some notes on the arcs as I read them, with mild spoilers but mostly TWs:
Spoiler
  1. Modern bad breakup arc was a pretty basic world setting. There's a frankly hilarious amount of gaslighting but props to MC for being such an acting pro to make it convincing?
  2. Playboy CEO arc was a bit forgettable but ML having this whole secret illegitimate child of a rich family backstory was quite the dog blood. MC went the standard regret route here, gaslighting his way back into ML's heart.
  3. Ancient royalty arc I really wondered if MC was even scum in this world because by all accounts ML was the scum here.
  4. Doctor kidnapping arc was a bit wild with the pseudo-in*est but I think having a 8 year time skip helped me feel not as weird about it?
  5. Interstellar arc was legitimately depressing, like the reveal and the ending made me tear up it was just so unfair. Probably the saddest I've felt for a ML yet.
  6. After a few arcs of questioning if MC was really scum, cultivation arc comes with the scummiest MC yet, love it. The 3000 years of blackening value "fermenting" and MC "wimping out" by faking amnesia made me laugh so hard. The ending was so bittersweet, I cried again. Unfair.
  7. And now another pseudo-in*est plot, I think the author might like these lol, with MC being raised from age 6 by his deceased mother's 24 year old adopted brother. Can't say I'm a fan of this ML, as he's quite manipulative and morally suspect after his rebirth. It does help the ick that MC is down to be eaten but the fact that ML is taking advantage of MC's (albeit fake) innocence does bother me. The scum gong abuse goes hard though, and the dog blood in this arc is enough to drown in.
  8. Apocalypse arc with superpowers! Love this setting. There's a lot of modern arcs in this novel so glad this one changed it up. The setup of this one is just sad and the whitewashing plot may be predictable but my heartstrings were still tugged. Probably the most scum gong and innocent shou combination with endless amounts of dog blood. Made me cry maybe the hardest yet.
  9. Another modern world, with a rebirth twist of MC being the one to be reincarnated into another person's body. The mechanics of it aren't really explained but it's not too necessary. Been looking forwards to this arc as this is where the whole story started.

On the ending and 1v1 (spoilers) :
Spoiler

Real world arc had me actually dying laughing because what do you mean MC started transmigrating because he wanted to save his amnesiac comatose boyfriend of a month that he literally picked up off the side of the road?? He went through all those worlds just for his bf's big d*ck and cooking skills, absolutely unbelievable but also why is this so in character of him.

After the pill, boyfriend wakes up as ML of the first world, probably author could have specified because I did not remember names after so many chapters. He proceeds to change into other MLs from the past worlds every other day or so, and I had a bit of trouble keeping track of which world each ML came from since they aren't in order. Order of boyfriend appearances if you get confused like me: 1, 3, 6, 2, 8, 4, 7, 5, 9. Transition from son ML in arc 4 to father ML in arc 7 is actually hilarious ordering.

and their existence provides an explanation for the events of this story. Personally Iiked the ending (and overall plot) for that story a little tiny bit more since it was a clear 1v1 from start to finish but this one definitely was mind bending and satisfying as well! <<less

I've only started reading so I can't really judge nor predict how it goes in latter chapters but right now, I agree with some people here, the MC is highly hypocritical. The title ain't lying, the MC is truly a scum.

Spoiler

Sure, I get that he wants to make sure the ML hates him after he left but what's with the excessive break-up? He claims the ML would be heartbroken when he left but it's not like doing this would be any better?

I would have thought he'd be more reluctant to do what he did to the MLs when he said he "couldn't help but felt that the MLs are live, real human."

He had the option to cut ML off in less harsh way but nope, he opted for the worst way possible. Quite unhesitantly, I might say. It felt more like he's doing it for fun rather than for the ML's sake like he claimed.

[collapse]

Update: The story is cliche at times but hey, that's how all drama goes. I like how playful the interactions are between MC and the system. So far, it's a pretty decent read except I couldn't really sympathize with the characters the MC are playing because deep down I knew he's acting and not sincere about any of it. Besides, he caused the mess in the first place so it's only fair for him to fix it.

I actually went in for the angst but I can hardly relate to the misery, for the reasons stated above. I ABSOLUTELY agree with the comment where if the author had stick to one POV, it'd give more impact or angst. Good concept, but poor execution.

Giving it a 3 because I couldn't really say it's bad but there's better stories out there. <<less

So I wrote this on the 2nd chapter to last of the first arc, [but I really forgot which chapter]

Just started reading this story & I got to say, I never thought I'll have a story I don't like not because it's not good, it's the opposite but I really hate sad ending or story & this one seems to be just like that, I don't know if I can endure & continue reading : (

Anyways, I feel like in general, readers seems to misunderstand the whole story plot,... more>> everyone says MC is a scum & yes he did have all of this STAGED. But we can't forget the point that, with this scenario, the ML will finally let go of all hatred & such emotions. Also as he was the character, all he feels & thoughts were that of that person?[It was said like that, right.]So when he complete a task, he subconsciously know that he only got 3 days to stay so he decided to do the stuffs he did. And now, this making the blackening 0, after completing, he needs to leave again.. So in the end, I can't completely call him scum after all, but when he revert back to his original self, he became like a 3rd person viewing the whole story as if he was not the main character.. <<less

This is my 1st time writing a review. Don't read my review if you like this kind of possesive ML with pretentious MC's novel.

I really need to give an applause to this dog blood author. So "strategy to capture the scum gong" is the first work of the author that I read. I read it because chrysanthemum garden was translating it (i couldn't remember the translator's name sorry) and I thought it would be a good story but, sigh, I couldn't help but drop it when it came to the... more>> teacher-student arc. It's really repetitive so I just casually drop it w/o reading any spoilers (I'm a person who enjoy reading spoilers so much)

Okay. When I started reading this "the scum shou survival guide", I'm just thinking that this will be some light stories with smut. But when I reached the 5th or so chapter, I began to wonder if the author was same as STCTSG bcs the pretentious shou and the shitty chatty host with the system was excatly the same! It's the "I'm so aggrieved" or "I'm so upset" with you appearance while the chat is like "Oh, I'm so wonderful. I'm sure that I could make his blackening value drop" etc.

I didn't check the author's name at that time bcs I didn't want to ruin the mood. I quiet enjoyed the novel bcs the MC n the system chat aren't that annoying. At first...

But after some twists and turns. That "I love you but I have no choice" things and "I love you but you misunderstood me" also "I love you but my ex kept chasing me" really made me sick. I can't read it anymore ah... Oh right when I wrote this I'm closed to their second "I'm always waiting for you to tell you everything".

So I must told you that this story is so repetitive. So the shou left the gong and then came back but there are so much misunderstandings so the ML kept the MC in little black room and kept torturing him until the cannon fodder "ex boyfriend" came and cleared up the misunderstanding to let MC go. I'm crying over you ah, ex. And then the system is like "oh how come the blackening value didn't drop to zero yet" then the MC is like "don't worry I have numerous plans. The ML loves me so much. How could 100% affectionate fade like that?". The author made the MC was the playful and the carefree inside but so pitiful on the surface... It's quiet like "perfect destiny"'s MC but PD is more worthy...I'm serious. At least PD's MC is funny.

Seriously. If the author could make so many misunderstandings to solve then why must made this kind of world hopping story? Why not just make a very long story with one world and one background? I know you could do it, ah. Maybe the Quick Transmigrating things were so famous.

Ah...I'm so relieved that I could vent my disappointment. Thank you so much for accompanying me for 32 chapters. Bye, the so called scum shou. <<less

I have been on a fast-wear reading binge and I have to say this is one of the better and more unique ones I have read so far! I highly recommend it!

I used MTL to read to the end, definitely will re-read as the translation comes out. I usually avoid the 'tragedy' tag like the plague, but this story does have a happy ending! Sometimes you just want to cry it out - I swear I used up at least 2 boxes of tissues reading this story over the weekend.... more>> The author really does an excellent job of making you invested in the story of each arc/world and cry your heart out in the process. It's very cathartic.

I love how the MC really gets into his roles and you even get to follow the inner dialogue of the tragic character he is playing in each world. The MC and his relationship with his system provides great comic relief and reminds you that these worlds are not 'real' - that the MC is treating it like an amusing game, even if only to protect his own feelings. He is such a trooper to get tortured so much in each world and still exit without major psychological damage. The ending is quite a twist and it's very exciting to see how everything comes together at the end! <<less

Amazing storyline and plot! So much drama and love!

The first few chapters got me tearing up but my heart still wanted more of it. Why couldn't the story go on forever? Cries...

The main character is intelligent and humorous, especially when he talks with his system. They both make a great pair for laughs and face-palming moments.

My heart kind of broke a few times for the male lead and main character pair but their love for each other despite the many circumstances still manages to stitch it back together, so I'm... more>> okay for now.

Thank god it was a happy ending. The laughs and the loving moments, made this story worthwhile. <<less

I waited YEARS for this novel to finish translating, re-reading the old chapters over and over again, so hopefully that says something.

This novel is such an enjoyable read. Full of dog blood just like the first one, but with some backstory behind it because MC is coming back to worlds he already completed. ML after all the worlds are finished is done in a very unique, quite refreshing way compared to other QTs.

I cannot say enough about the MC! This MC has got to be one of the funniest MC's... more>> I've ever seen in the hundreds of novels I've read. Of course, in similar fashion to the prequel, MC can't act like that in front of other people so it's mostly internal monologue with his system 888 (who is also my favorite system too!!). Their dynamic duo works so well and never ceases to be entertaining. It's a good thing too as it helps takes the reader away from the "dark" parts of the story (hence the tags), but it reminds us that it's all a game...

or is it?

Highly recommend if you love QT dog blood and a dramatic MC/cold system duo!! <<less

a little confused with the comments and ratings in this story, most of them describe the protagonist as having a nasty personality, hypocritical, and disgusting for what he does, but they still give it such a high rating?? WTF?! I don't understand... I guess it's because they are people who like the drama and emotional abuse that the MC creates, however I don't like that kind of toxic stuff, if you're like me I don't recommend it at all...

I'm only past 2 arcs and I'm already exhausted... from crying, that is. If you're lookin for angst, this story has an abundant amount of it, I assure you. A good story to help you have a good cry.

The MC deserve his achievement of almost succeeding b4 the blackening forced him to fix the mess he left behind. He's cunning, he's manipulative, he's smart and he got the guts (and mental tolerance, I honestly suspect the MC is a masochist) to go through with his plans.

I wish the author had... more>> made a background story on how the MC developed his personality and cunning, just to make the MC more 3D you know? Oh, also the 100% pain filter also reduce the impact of the story a little bit, but this also made it so the MC is not so OP so I guess it balance out each other?

I just wanna know if the MC is someone who is a calculative and cunning masochist bcoz of anything (upbringing/past trauma/etc) or he is just born with a genetic defect which made him like that. Bcoz there are actually ppl who are born or grew up to be a sociopath/psycopath due to unknown causes (as in it's not caused by trauma or anything, they just are), and some research has shown that there are actually some difference between the brain of a psycopath/sociopath and normal ppl. So yeah, I just wanted more character building and background on MC. Maybe I'll get that down the line, if I did I'll come back to edit this. <<less

I enjoyed the Gong abuse throughout the novel, although it was a little repetitive.

However two things kind of bothered me.

The MC's personality was really apathetic and I didn't really like him. I feel like there wasn't enough world building around the reasons for his personality.

The return to the real world also felt really rushed and unfinished.

This novel is supposed to be 1v1, but there is absolutely no indication of that in the book itself.

Overall interesting concept with annoying MC and rushed ending

I love this. I love this because of the heart-wrenching ends to each world. It perfectly fills that weird curiosity I have about if a romance ended with a tragedy as it shows what happens to some of the characters in each world after MC is gone.

This definitely isn't for everyone, and you're looking for something wholesome then this is the worst novel to read for it but if you want to cry your eyes out and yell at the ML while waiting until everything unravels satisfyingly then this is... more>> perfect.

My only real complaint is that MC breaks the emersion by talking with the system cuz in some scenes his characters is sad and then all of a sudden talks to system about how his plans coming together so it just confuses and gets rids of tension. It mostly happens at specific or calmer sections but still annoying.

My biggest complaint is
Spoiler

the worlds get repetitive- MC betrays ML-they meet and ML wants revenge-MC is kidnapped and fights back-MC stops fighting back-ML learns the truth and is super sorry-after some drama MC forgives-MC gones.

They dont all go exactly like that, some stuff missing or theres a second ML who loves MC and want to protect MC from ML so a lot of it is just same outlines in different setting.

Overall its a satisfying read for someone who wants that kind of drama. <<less

my one-way ticket to tearville

if you come for self abuse, then this is perfect.

but if you like couples who clearly communicate when they make important decisions, then it's the worst.

Love that ML suffers (but he had to torment MC along the way too grr.), love the grovelling, makes a different dynamic and story. It's like Perfect Destiny went wrong,

ML is obviously not human enough and resorts to violence when betrayed, also doesn't understand MC enough to trust him. This lack of trust is fatal. MC was also ruthless to him because he already had a lover he had to get back to.

Be ready with your tissues. If you are looking for a sweet fluffy qt novel, I think the summary already warned you of how much heart and tears you will have to feel reading it. But if you are looking for touching stories that also includes emotional abuse and, regrets. This is a great novel. Although it is only one host and many arcs, The author of the novel also wrote it including the thoughts and feelings the original characters that the MC possessed. It does not give a feeling... more>> like those souls were actually fake acting.

I highly recommend this. Although it may not be fluffy.

Spoiler

I find the actions of the MC normal, considering that he has to leave straight after the mission, he prefers to break it off than leaving quitely so that the mls did not have an empty shell as their partner and there will be no lingering feelings.

Each arc is beautiful in its own feels of the whitewashing. Oh how you would like to know how MC actually turns the situation around when he breaks off (literally) with the mls are very cruel/heartless/full of cough blood heart ache ways. <<less

MTL-ed it, generally pretty enjoyable as long as you know what you're getting yourself into (dog blood drama with a scum shou). Why did we never get to see Yue Ling? We're told Yue Ling is the whole reason why MC did this, but we never get any flashbacks or scenes that build up their relationship. Sure, he says a couple of lines, but that's not enough. There just isn't enough showing of MC's motive, we're just told Yue Ling's in a coma, needs this "soul pill", and MC can buy a soul pill from the system after doing X amount of tasks. Sure, that's character motivation, but that doesn't really show the depth of MC's love for Yue Ling that is constantly referenced in the story. Basically, we're always told in the text that MC loves Yue Ling, but that isn't reflected by what's shown.

[collapse]

Why I rated this so high though, is because I read this while reading 水千丞's works. It's the scum abuse that I want, but never really got.

Spoiler

After finishing A Year of Intoxication or Winner Takes All, and switching to The Scum Shou's Survival Guide, it feels good reading all the abuse the MLs take. Just thinking about A Year of Intoxication makes me mad. Scum Shou's Survival Guide is the opposite: unrepentant (until the final arc) MC treats the worlds like a game, just there to grind ML's affection points, pulls a face-heel turn, but is then dragged back to all his worlds and forced to grind to remove all the ML's blackening points, which always involves lots of emotional turmoil and despair for the ML as MC always dies in the end, resulting in BE for those worlds. Sure ML is always sorry for his earlier actions, but in the majority of arcs he's alone at the end. In his perspective, he's lost MC because of what he has done, and will never regain what he has lost (MC just wants his points and has to leave).

Banter between the main character and the system is great. There's a good rate of story progression and world hopping. Idk, this is a novel that doesn't condescend to you or pretend their characters are moral even as the author gives you the QT scummy/touching romance novel that you're here for while hinting at an overarching plot. And yes, 70 chapters later, the title is still accurate.

Accidentally posted a review on the prequel I think, so I’m just gonna leave this on the right novel

I tried to give this novel a fair chance, I really did, but how these ratings are so high is just beyond me. I made it to the second arc, but I can’t even continue anymore. I didn’t find the protagonist interesting in particular, and the male leads are just—

If you’re into the protagonist getting r*ped a few hundred times along with the typical cold rich guy who wants “revenge” then this... more>> is probably for you. Personally I don’t see the appeal in it, and I don’t understand how people can just forget about it (MC getting r*ped) after the ML starts revealing a soft side and wants redemption. The point isn’t that the MC secretly enjoys it (which is concerning). In the ML’s POV, all he knows is that MC betrayed him and he now wants to force him into s*xual interc**rse. To summarize, everyone is a piece of shit. Perhaps it’s my fault because I forgot to lower my standards before reading, but this novel was pretty bad. <<less

I have mixed feelings about this series. The ML is an incorrigible rapist, and he r*pes the MC in every single arc thus far. Sure, there are plots, but they are often flimsy. Why would they devolve into r*pe every single time? Some of the relationships the MC has had with the ML were not s*xual or romantic in nature at all, and r*pe still comes into play. As the MC's enemies, can't they come up with a punishment other than r*pe? Like making his business crumble, breaking his bones,... more>> sticking him in jail, and so on and so forth. No. R*pe and imprisonment is all they do. Worse yet, the MC always makes his character act like he's developed special feelings toward them in the end. He gives his characters Stockholm syndrome like no tomorrow.

The MC manages to remain detached as he lets himself be abused again and again, emotionally, physically, and sexually. He still manipulates people's feelings, so he's not likeable either.

Overall, this series promotes abuse and violence as something that can make a victim develop positive feelings toward his abuser, no matter how horribly he's degraded and manipulated. It's disgusting. The settings are weak, the plots are redundant, and I hate both the MC and ML. I gave this series a chance, but I can't recommend it to anyone. <<less
