What is it like to be forced to be with someone you don’t like?

Dong Ci answered after experiencing:

First, reject the unacceptable, then realize that you are moved by him, fall in love with him and, finally – you can no longer be separated from him.

Dong Ci met a wanton teenager when she was young. Since then, her life was full of his existence. At first, she couldn’t stand his domineering and strong personality, so she wished to get rid of him. But the two were entangled together from school to marriage, anyway.

In the end, after a battle of life and death, Dong Ci suddenly discovered that there was nothing she couldn’t let go, and the pain that he once caused – which she thought was unforgivable before – couldn’t overcome his love.

I have read up to the latest translations and I might check back now and then to see how this shitshow ends, but here are my thoughts until now:

(Huge spoilers btw)

Spoiler

So basically MC is a poor but pretty girl that wants to get in the chinese equivalent of Harvard, but her dad is dead and her mom has to work herself off for minimum wage. So one day, while MC she's strolling around the school, she runs into Sociopath and from that moment on, he develops an obsession with MC for no other reason other than she awakened his hardcore BD*M fetish.

[collapse]

The MC...

Spoiler

From there on, the story is a f*cking trainwreck. To start with, MC is so f*cking obsessed with getting in fancy university that she's willing to essentially sell herself to a dude that has neon signs around him saying "I'M A SOCIOPATH", even eventually getting her mom involved in the whole affair. Also, while she's lowkey being held hostage by the ML, and clearly being described as terrified of him, but also going doki doki on the ML because he's sooooo handsome and mysterious! Seriously, is like the author has never interacted with a human being before, her interactions with ML are completely off the f*cking roof. There's even a part where he mouths feed the MC (f*cking gross), fully knowing that the MC is disgusted and about to throw up. And a part where MC's mother is being held hostage and the MC is having a mental breakdown and the ML, in the middle of all of this, forces her to have s*x with him so he can save her. In between and after these traumatic events the MC is swooning over the ML like 5 minutes later. Again, the author has this very twisted idea that you can totally overlap traumatic and scarring events with romantic/s*xual attraction and not make it look like hardcore stockholm syndrome. It's f*cking cringey watch MC blushing and going "uwu I had s*x with ML yesterday soooooo awkward lol" when she was literally losing her mind the previous chapter.

[collapse]

Now, for the ml...

Spoiler

now, I was reading this novel for 2 reasons exactly: yandere, and smut. I didn't get either and let me tell you why. While ML is definitely obsessed with MC, he's a shitty yandere. He's abusive, toxic, and downright manipulative. He's essentially a bully. The whole basis for his character I that he's taking advantage of MC's poor financial situation to make her date him, making it explicit that once they finish high school they'll part ways (and they both agreed on this). Well, that a f*cking lie. He later pulls a 360° and says he's going to marry MC. He kidnaps her at some point, fully knowing she's terrified, deliberately disappears for long periods of time or ignores the MC for weeks in hopes this will make her miss him or whatever, does every little thing he knows makes the MC uncomfortable and continuously forced himself on her, and it's not even portrayed as sexy or appealing, which is another point I'm going to talk about below. But in short, ML is the worst kind of yandere, the one that actively hurts their love interest and has zero respect for them. And I'm a huge yandere lover, but this dude is just abusive. The only yandere parts of him is being obsessed with MC, but other than that all he does is bully her into dating him and drag her into places she clearly doesn't want to be in, and being toxic all around.

[collapse]

The narrative...

Spoiler

I really don't get what's the deal with this novel. I'm confused because for the first 30 chapters, the story narrates in CLEAR detail how distressed is the MC every time she's around ml, yet here we are, having the MC "warm up" to the ml. Am I supposed to find the force feeding and repeated abuse attractive? Am I missing something? Is this a novel for people with humiliation fetish? Why do kids love cinnamon crunch? I just don't f*cking know. Why do you go to such extreme lengths to portray clearly abusive behavior and then do a flip and proceed to remind readers how HANDSOME and PURE-LOOKING the male lead is and how MC is BLUSHING around him? The change in tone is so abrupt at times, like I said before, in one chapter the male lead forces the MC to have s*x with him while the MC is having a breakdown because her mom is being tortured somewhere, and after they do the deed she wakes up next morning like nothing happened. Nobody wakes up like they spent the night with Adam Levine after being blackmailed into having s*x AND still not knowing what is happening with your kidnapped mom. The characters don't feel like real people, none of the interactions feel natural, hell even the ML talks like a 12 y/o edgelord. There's other people that know what's going and how dangerous is the ml, but don't do anything either and at times, they even help him wtf. And MC has like 2 functioning brain cells and doesn't even tell her friends some thug is blackmailing her into dating him. Nobody bothers to even check why the MC is suddenly hanging out with him. Now some people might say that he gets better in the end, but I haven't even reached the climax of the novel and ML already crossed the line, multiple times. Whatever he does later to redeem himself, will warrant him a restraining order, at best. Like the "aRe yOU lOsT bABy gIrL" guy from 365 days

[collapse]

In short...

Spoiler

okay maybe I'm not the target audience for this novel, or maybe I'm missing the humiliation fetish needed to enjoy this, but it just rubs me in the wrong way how abusive behavior is labeled as tolerable at worst, "romantic" at best. I Iove yandere guys, but ML here is just not appealing at all. Take for example yandere like the guy in The Man's Perfect Wife or Doppio Senso, who are also very possessive and obsessed with their love interests, but they're also genuinely caring and protective, so it balances out. With ML here there is no positive points to balance out his personality, the guy is just an as*hole overall. The story will remind you again and again how there seems to be a softer, brighter side of his personality, but in all honesty this never comes out in a meaningful way, this guy will be gentle for 5 seconds and then revert back to being abusive, so there is no real character development.

[collapse]

And a final note...

Spoiler

The final nail in the coffin for me was when the MC's mom was revealed to have been suffering from depression and everyone acts like she's circus freak for it, even the MC goes hysterical saying her mom is not "abnormal", and even having a doctor shitting on her for having a mental illness. So yeah, this novel shits on people with mental illnesses but thinks is very normal to fall for the guy that kidnapped you. As if, you know, there wasn't a medical term for that kind of behavior... mmmmm....

[collapse]

Anyways like I said before I haven't finished it and I'll probably check now and then to see how this ends, but I think I lost enough brain cells to call it a day with this novel. <<less

This novel is not everyone's cup of tea.

The ML is obsessed with FL from the very start, and due to many reasons (mostly his upbringing) - he doesn't know how to properly show his love. And even when he tries to be good later, the FL has hard time believing in him because of the previous pain he had caused.

The FL of this novel is kind of naive and slightly childish. She is smart, but because of her quiet nature, it's not always obvious. That, and ML's superiority overshadows her... more>> a lot.

Overall, this novel's title is very suitable and reflects in the story. But despite the many questionable points, this novel can be quite compelling, and even sugary (especially in the middle, and towards the end).

What I really liked, was the obvious love that ML shows towards FL, and the way he gradually learned how to properly love her... and the fact that he's devoted to her only. What I actually disliked, was probably the beginning, when the plot just got too heavy...

So, read it at your own risk ^^ <<less

It's very well written, but it's honestly really hard for me to like it.

The ML has a severe borderline personality disorder. He abused, r*ped, kidnapped, and intimidated FL while using her mother as a leverage.

The problem is, the author made it seems like it was okay and perfectly acceptable to do so. Even the side characters don't give any reaction to ML's behavior. This is extremely unrealistic, accompanied with mediocre character setting with no growth.

Istg it felt like I was reading a cheap modernized version of Lolita with similar age... more>> MCs.

The only obvious reason it's tagged with smut is because this novel caters to certain people's fetishes. For me who had experienced real s*xual abuse tho, this is just sick. <<less

Spoiler

I actually love male yandere but as for this one, I'm on a neutral side. The male lead is in the epitome of the real deal like hell yeah. The reason for 3 stars was because I just imagined this happening to me or someone irl. like, let this sink... someone you dont know suddenly flipping your life into hell telling you they love you but his actions only feeds his selfish desires not thinking of what you feel. like omg wow. so much for love is that my yandere Lucas is shaking kappa. ???

  • Jing Rong: I will put you to cage so you won't get away.
  • Lucas: I will never put you to cage, run anywhere, because the whole world is in the palm of my hands.

Anyways, massive hands up for the female lead tbh for enduring that far and not killing herself due to emotional trauma or ptsd, that shit's amazing holy buddha amithaba. I would prolly chew my tongue for suffering that hell he call love. lmao. I won't say it's a good romance story rather, it's a good stockholm syndrome story. #theteaends

Author write it well. I can finished read this....

It's really swist and abusive love (don't know this is really call love?). Because I don't believe in ML words like MC. I think he plot all bad thing and MC get abused in many years till she not in right mind so it's not sweet story for me. But author make it possible make me feel acceptable while leave me weird taste.

It's have sweet part and abuse part but I give some spoiler for abusive part here

He use loneshark make mc's mother in debt then force MC sell herself to him and have s*x with him.

Force her to mary repeat r*pe etc. (When angry he have s*x with her as punishment)

Feed /kiss MC and make her vomit repeatly, I asumed that she had more poor heath because of this.

It turn point when MC ask for break up and leave him so he try to win her back. Redeem himself but he always plot more shitty things.

[collapse]

It's happy ending

I give comment and I think I will come back to read another comments. Haha I feel like I'm not in the right mind when I can enjoyed this. Give me some slap !

Everyone is complaining about ML, but I found MC so utterly annoyingly worthless. She can’t fight for herself, is easily overpowered by just mere words and clearly has the intelligence of a 4 year old.

The author just wanted to write a story about a yandere, imprisoning and overbearing, without actually bothering about a proper believable storyline. How on earth do you get obsessed about someone from a mere 5 seconds glance?

The whole premise of Yandere is "A fictional character who fits the archetype of being genuinely romantic, loving, kind, merciful, sparing, sweet and gentle, but is at the same time brutal, psychotic or deranged in behavior." So yeah. This ain't a yandere. The dude is crazy but not sweet. All we can say is he is abusive. Not even sweet. How can you describe that as sweet. If the ML is Yandere for anyone then it is for himself. He can do everything for his own satisfaction. He ain't even... more>> thinking about the MC. Yandere first try to be sweet but can't endure if anything or anyone else gets the MCs attention. So yeah. It ain't yandere. Please remove the yandere tag. It's just a abusive a**hole. <<less

great character development of both MC and ML. I applaud the MC for not losing herself despite suffering for years coz of ML's possessiveness.

at the beginning, the ML is so detestable. He only knew how to threaten and force MC but at the latter half of the story, he showed great development and willingness to change and love her without hurting her.

Spoiler

readers can understand why ML is so controlling and possessive. That's the kind of love he knew from seeing how his father treated his mother. He really loves MC but he can't control his possessiveness that he even resorted to threatening MC with her mother's life just so she would stay with him. Im so glad that he actually learned how to let her go. Because of that, he reflected about his past actions and became willing to change in order to keep MC by his side without hurting her.

i think its a really good read. The beginning might be a little too heavy for some people so watch out for that. <<less

The author’s translation of the story has been impeccable, which would be a challenge given the nuances of the darker themes in this novel. You could call this a romance, if you’re into that kind of thing, but I like to view this more as a psychological thriller/mystery as we figure out why the ML is “into” the FL. This is definitely not to everyone’s taste. The character development, though, is very realistic, at least for the female lead. She felt really relatable and her actions were totally justifiable; we... more>> could palpably see her development as she becomes subject to the whims of her captor. <<less

i dont really ike this and its not my cup of tea so im not gonna rate it.

the ML is a lil too psychotic for my taste and just way too much of an abuser towards the FL and I dont really like that. He seems to abuse her verbally at times and even though hes only saying something its still abuse.

The FL is relatively likable I dont have anything to complain about her other than the fact shes so obsessed with getting into A class but I do understand... more>> her motives and she has a lot of backstory and is explained pretty well.

The writing isnt repetitive and pretty well done, The author uses different words and is doing aa pretty good job of writing. The translations were great and well done I couldnt find many mistakes grammar wise. <<less

Ah yes, my fav part of this novel are actually the extras. In the first to mid of the story you might give up on this novel because as you know. It has r*pe and stockholm syndrome, abuse too.

MC is kinda s*upid ahahahha. But she aint that bad. ML makes my head hurt and laugh drily. His father too. Interesting how the attitude of the father gets passed down to their child.

I love yanderes, like, a LOT. But only when they are under limits. Even imprisonment is okay. AS LONG IT DOESN'T TOUCH MY BORDERLINE. Manipulation is cool but this guy is just clearly forcing whatever he wants on the girl and HE'S NOT EVEN RESPECTING HER OR TELLING HER HE LOVES HER OR SMH. This actually is good. Although I got disappointed a lil bit with the MCs action on how she easily forgave him. Though not really sure because I just read the MTLs so its not really accurate/reliable.

I like how the extra chapters were flashbacks to MCs mother, MLs parents & if not mistaken the MCs girl friend & the guy she likes. I forgot who she was, but she met him when She transferred in MLs school. Although we didn’t get a clear picture as of what happened with them in... more>> the end.

The ML is a low EQ idiot who thinks if he wants something or someone, seizing it with any and all means is justified.

And the FL is a low IQ idiot who can easily control and minimize her misfortunes but stays in her own bubble of serenity until everything goes to sh*t and she has no choices or bargaining power left.

They're both s*upid in different ways but the story is well written and interesting in a psychological perspective so I still got intrigued and enjoyed reading.

The plotline up to the recently translated chapters is quite disturbing to read.

Thus I peeked at the last few chapters to find out whether I'll continue to read the full story or not.

The ending convinced me to give the benefit of the doubt to wait for the completed translation. I'm curious of the author's way to wash white ML character, for his abusive actions were unforgivable imo.
