The Lazy King

By the time I realized it, I had reincarnated into another world.

I kept sleeping, and at some point I became a Demon Lord.

Even though I never wished for it.

But for me to not have to work, this world is the best. It must be true that good things happen to good people.

The flavor of Sloth is as sweet as honey. Glory, diligence, virtue, or honor. I have no interest in anything like that.

What’s there to hide? The Lazy king is… none other than me.

The cover doesn't really portray the content of The Lazy King. There's no way Liege would be that energetic. The Lazy King revolved around a demon lord that govern sloth. Revolved around, because the MC really didn't move at all (most of the time), and all the action were done by the demons around him. He is the center that connect all the character, yet he wasn't the center of the story. A really interesting read.

10/10 will recommend

Amazing.

This novel is different from anything else that I got to read.

It's well writen, each and every character have a lot of depth and personallity, the story itself makes you think a lot and never leave you bored. If you love a serious story with great focus on characterization- it's perfect.

1 of the greatest novel ever made, easily get to my top 3. The characters mind and action are throughoutly explained, strong plot with little to none plot hole, each chapter is crazy long. The only bad thing about it is it ends on a high note, left quite a hole in my heart after finishing it.

It was amazing. Honestly.

At first when I read the synopsis and saw that it only had 16 chapters, I had my doubts. It sounded fun, but I couldn't imagine much substance coming from something called the 'lazy king'. I mean, the cover image suggested one of those brainless harem novels lacking of plot but not of template girls for guys to m*sturbate to. I mean if that's your thing, so be it, but I for one was delighted to be wrong.

The novel is like an onion. Each chapter delves further... more>> into the various characters and the world surrounding them. Every character is splendidly developed. Each is a fascination with motives, desires and sins. Except perhaps our main character, but that's the issue in and of itself. His lack of drive. His sloth. His melancholy.

And his overwhelming power despite his lack of effort for it.

It is one of the better presentations of the seven deadly sins I've read about.

Author-san, please give us another volume. There's so much more to the demon world than you've already revealed. Iyo. <<less

This story is about “nothing”. More specifically, it discusses the pointlessness of everything.

I may not be a philosophy major, but from what I learned of philosophy, this is a great story that plays with the idea of nihilism, and a great statement about life. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great story about meanings in life.

Fantastic story. I came into this thinking that it would be a good light read for chuckles, but I was thoroughly surprised by the depth in this. Don't get me wrong, there was a generous amount of comedy at times, but at the same time, there was a despair, there was a contemplation of life. The story only gets even deeper as it goes on.
Not only that, it ended with a wonderful, if not depressing, open ending.

The ending was a wonderful thing of where we get to see the MC meet someone that he knew thousands of years ago. It just so happens that this someone caused some of his regrets, so to resolve it, we get to see him actually do something for once with an actual will in himself. Although the enemy was being slowly broken down mentally within this battle, it actually just made the battle even better. Finally, it ended with the overpowered MC coming out on top, but he didn't really gain anything. It finally ended it with him basically saying "I'm so tired of life. I'm going to sleep for a while." With a 'while' probably being for millenniums. This really tugged at my heartstrings for the MC, thinking how depressing it is for him. To never be understood by anyone around him, but still being feared by them because of his overwhelming power. Then we see from the mc's perspective and realize, he really didn't care about it at all, seeing no meaning in life. Instead, asking why he got such an easy life while gazing at the strong people that gather around him who actually have suffered or worked for their power. Made me tear up for the sake of the misunderstood MC.

Just a warning for you light hearted out there, this is not just a "HAHA. Good times!" novel, it's an actually pretty dark story that, though depressing, is extremely good, I would definitely recommend this to others. <<less

I'm rating it as 4 stars, +1star for the quite refreshing story format. I feel like this probably is more like a short story type of novel, those types you'd see in older magazines that didn't always focus on a plot but instead wanted to convey a "feeling". It simply happens that the author choose the long detour to convey rather than compress it in one chapter. But at the same time you feel like the slow pacing was necessary, because without it you would miss 90% of the character... more>> depth (which was the great part). Even if in the end, you also feel like the character depth was pointless. But that's pretty on point, since the point of novel was to convey how lazy and passive the MC is. As well as making you take the perspective of the MC: making you understand that all those fighting, personal struggle, plotting, etc. Was pointless and laughable. Everything is useless and lazy.

Either way, with this novel, you either like it, or hate it. PS: I think that fighting/power system was quite interesting though. <<less

Absolutely Glorious.

As someone who has read hundreds of mangas, and relatively recently tens of webnovels, Light Novels, CH and KR novels, this webnovel is something really special. And since I've grown to generally like CH/KR more than Japanese ones, since they often have more interesting protags, I was positively surprised with this one.

Although I've found this novel by the reincarnation tag, this is nothing like what you'd usually expect from reincarnation novels, in fact the reincarnation hold nearly no importance to the story at all (besides at the end).

The best... more>> about the Lazy King are the characters, they're really well written. And by that I mean, they're not just good or likeable, they actually feel alive and they're extremely interesting.

The concept of the plot is very coherent and reasonable, albeit not boring (a few, well placed surprises) and Leigie is just unique. I've never before and will probably never again meet a protag who only sleeps the whole day, but is still so fascinating. There is just so much between the lines.

It's become remarkably difficult to thoroughly amaze me, since at this point I feel like I've nearly read everything out there, but the Lazy King did just that. I did certainly not expect this, but this is the first novel which really hooked me and made me pull an all-nighter to read everything since...... maybe the Rewrite VN back when the patch came out?

Loved absolutely everything, the plot, the characters, the ending. The only thing which I might criticize is that the ending was half open, but it was still good enough, and tbh it's understandable, since the author probably planned to write another volume. <<less

The story is about an open reincarnate whose only want is to sleep. He gains power by not doing anything and simply sleeps the eons away. A diligently hard worker at being lazy. The characterization is well done as by the end of the first chapter we know all about the MC. The pov is shifted to others related to Leigie and it is through their eyes we explore the world. Unlike other light novels that bind you to only the MC pov with occasional pov of others that is... more>> limited to what they think of the MC, this novel bind the reader to each character for each chapter, their desires and fears are explored making them organic and memorable. It is a good storytelling skill to let others advance the story.

The ending is great as it ties up some threads but doesn’t resolve the conflicts for some characters. It points again, as it does many times in the story, the world continues to spin despite what the characters do. <<less

like everyone else says, this is a good novel but please don't be fooled by the 16 chapters length. It's HEAVY. The world building, the characterization, everything about it is great but not for those attempting to binge read. Binging this is more along the lines of binging 2 or 3 novels in a series.

Plot wise, it's a very detailed and plot heavy story. There's a lot of world building and detail that is great but when trying to binge it might get a bit much. It's more of a... more>> politics story than an action story, as motivations and true powers of everyone slowly unravel throughout their designated chapters. The ending is a little anticlimactic, as it felt like there were a few plot lines that never really got resolved or explained and it just simply cuts off. The protagonist is OP, but it's interesting to see him interact with the world. He's never really "cool" in the traditional sense of "watch me kick everyone's ass" but more "the lengths he'll go to sleep". He's a very stagnant an low tension character honestly, he had very very little character development, and while being the center of the entire plot/story, he does very little in comparison to the side characters, who are very busy.

Theres not much for me to review that hasn't really been covered by everyone else, but please read this story. The translations are pretty smooth, the plot is very good, the characters are well developed and the MC is likeable as long as you enjoy having a protagonist whose very low tension. For binge readings, please read this when you're at full strength. It's long enough to take about a day or two length wise but it's very information heavy. <<less

It's a bit like reading the story of a star, only that star's the size of the sun with enough gravitational pull to drag all the planets into circling around it. Even though all Leige does is sleep, eat, and sleep some more, trouble keeps knocking on his door when he couldn't care less.

The story is generous with its use of POVs (probably a blessing, considering how blasé our MC can be), creating a rich and poignant world peppered with unique characters. Each and every one has their own motivations... more>> and desires strong enough to star in a novel themselves.

And yet, as in the story, they're all overshadowed by the insurmountable mountain that is the cheat-level MC. I'd classify this as a funny, serious, and thoughtful read. Though I'm sad there's no sequel, what the author's written will be enough to keep me thinking for a while. Try it yourself! <<less

This book... will make you speechless. And will make you think:

The story is amazing. It will make you more lazy than you already are. The characters will make you laugh. You will fall in love with Leige's OPness. Last, You can't help but want more.

Spoiler

In the end, this novel is a jewel. Although short, but the flow of the story is uniquely based on the characters around the MC- which is Leige, the Lazy King, and holder of the Sin of Sloth. Which basically do nothing but sleep, eat, and repeat. Sans when a certain demon interrupt his sleep and drags him out his bed to wards off monsters invading his land.

Author knows how to dwell on a Character's thoughts I give him/her that.

But the Protagonist literally only cares about sleep. No he doesn't care about the characters, plot, world around him at all.

A Main character's purpose is to connect with the other characters, plot, world, blah blah around him in order to explore more into it.

... more>> So there's absolutely no need for you to give a rat's ass about anything.

The ending is also a sack of farts.

Horrible cliff hanger that didn't conclude anything at all.

Conflict?
Nah.
Character's fate?
Nah.
Factions?
Nah.
None.
Don't read this. <<less

Loved this series and desperately tried to find something similar, to no avail. If anything I would compare it to Overlord in how it shifts point of view quite often and the OP MC pulls everything together. My only complaint would be the ambiguous ending, but that's really just me trying to find an excuse for this great series to continue.

Simply one of the best and unique series out there.
It is a must try even if you don't like it, it can't let you unmoved.
I just loved it from the start but I understand that some of the reader may feel weird from the pacing.

Plus:
-Some of the most well-written characters I have seen. All of them seems real and are interesting. Read it if only for them.
-The power system is great and interesting. The relation between the demons and theirs sins is well thought.
-The feels.... more>> As I said it can't make you unmoved.
-The comedy is good.
-The MC who is so simple but so weird.

Minus:
-I can't seem to understand the point of making this MC a reincarnator it is mentionned in the first chapter then never used again. <<less

If your tired of reading the same repetitive plots and settings, I humbly implore you TO FREAKING READ THIS NOVEL. I can guarantee that this plot is rarely (if not never) used due to the fact of multiple points of view and also because of the character of the MC, multiple points of view WORKS FOR THIS NOVEL (unlike some others that botch multiple points of view). Side note, if your worried about the fact there's not many chapters (like I did at first) and fear that you'll read them... more>> in a couple of minutes I have a saying that fits perfectly for that train of mind "ehem" DON'T JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS CHAPTERS BECAUSE THESE CHAPTERS ARE LONG. To be precise I think one of the chapters was about 13.5k words and if going by the fact other web novels usually put out chapters ranging from 1.5-2k words... do the math people it's not hard. <<less

Do you like to do nothing?

Do you just want to sleep all the time?

Do you want to just lay and bed and read about someone who mainly just lays in bed and becomes more powerful because of that?

Well this is the story for you! Also super powerful demons fighting other super powerful demons. I don’t have anything else to say this story is amazing if you are into what I said just like me.

... It's complicated, okay?

At it's base, it might be started as a demonic reincarnation story, who got a legitimate shortcut to max OP status. Well, a shortcut that might have required megaannums (10, 000 years) to reach... But that's why only the MC had reached it.

But the story is not about that journey, which probably is filled with so much decadence (sleep) and depravity (more sleep), that it would have been boring to read.

No, the story is more of the movement of demon factions and characters around the OP... more>> main character, a Demon Lord who is probably up to the Demon Lord King status, if only he cared enough. But if he cared, then he would never have reached his OP status.

Unfortunate, but the main character himself is not that interesting, being an indolent lord that everyone tries to circumspect or attack on, but the supporting cast's stories are marvelous on their own and are very well-written.

The world and the setting themselves are very interesting, and the interactions between factions and characters are great...

If the story was about the war between Hell's factions, as well as war between Hell, Heaven, and the world of Human (and other races) in between, it might have been much more riveting, I suppose. <<less

The Lazy King is a fascinating story with unusual background, characters, and narrative. If not for its rather abrupt ending (which left some questions unanswered), I would grant it five stars or more. The story tells about the demon world where every powerful person takes on a certain attribute of the seven sins (and more). Our MC is a demon of sloth attribute who increases his strength and skills the more he sleeps. This way, he becomes an extremely powerful demon in the duration of thousands years without actually doing... more>> anything. Alas, it IS a demon world, where no one can sleep peacefully forever. And thus, the story begins.

As the MC could not possibly narrate the whole story himself, the Author makes it so every chapter is seen from different character point of view. This way, readers are not only gaining insight into the unique story, but also experience different characters' mind. With the Author (and translator) expertise, it could be almost psycho at some points, dramatic in another, heart-rending in the next, and so on. Very recommended if you don't mind improper ending. <<less
