I had to drop. I just couldn’t.

I saw how everyone left nice reviews so I decided to read it. The description sounded cute and fluffy. I read that this story was sentimental and in a way, it did make me feel some type of way. BECAUSE I WAS FRICKIN FRUSTRATED.

I’m only giving this manga 2 stars because it was beautifully written. It reminded me of those ancient chinese love poems I used to read. But quite frankly, I thought that this couple just wasn’t as beautiful as the writing.

But all in all I didn’t like this story mainly because I felt as if the author was trying to pull me in with her poetic words when the love story just wasn’t great. I was disappointed.

This novel made me wonder if the author had a misconception about what love really was.

Spoiler

You’re really telling me that MC loved ML when they hadn’t interacted w each other for 7 years? Also when they did date, they were in a long distance relationship. They also ended on a rough patch and seemed to be toxic towards the end of the relationship because of their social statuses. Also the author only gives us snippets of the past so I never fully understood why they broke up.

MC is a 30 year old woman who’s still blindly In love with her high school love. She’s heartbroken, crying, gloomy, or in a daze throughout the 13 chapters that I have read. And they were long chapters. Like GIRL, can you stop acting like you’ll never find someone better than him when he’s been acting coldly and indifferently around you??!

I personally think it’s impossible to truly love someone when you haven’t been with that person for a good chunk of your life. You can still care and think about him fondly, but how can you love someone you don’t know anymore? The author even talks about how they don’t know anything about each other anymore. Doesn’t it seem like they love each other for no reason then?

[collapse]

If you like angst, a one dimensional female lead who’s completely whipped, and an indifferent ML, then go ahead and read this.

Also I give really low ratings. I think I’ve only given out one five star to a chinese novel.

This is really a heart touching story. It was nice. There are rarely stories like this. It is one of the realistic stories I’ve read so far. I would definitely recommend it. Initially, because of some negative reviews I avoided reading this but after I read that I regret not reading it before. This story is basically about a soldier and a young woman who once had dated in their teens and broke up but later meet again after 9 nine years. Not only it has fluff but also lot... more>> more but I recommend to discover them by reading it yourselves. <<less

I picked this novel up on a whim, wanting something more meaningful to read at home during quarantine. It left me a very sentimental feeling that I cannot describe. You also get to understand the male lead's perspective and feelings fairly well, which is quite refreshing. I'm very satisfied with the ending and these two that seemingly have separated eventually made their ways back to one another.

This line really warms and fuzzes up my heart:

Spoiler

All these years, by my side there has always been your shadow.

In the winds of Inner Mongolia. In Beijing's swirling sand and dust. You seemed to be everywhere. Yet, when I turned to look for you, no traces could be found.
Who has traversed the hazy journey of one's dust-cloaked years and done so without regrets? But, eventually, dawn will break through and illuminate the road home.

As always, many thanks to Hoju, who translates much of MBFB's works. The essence of the original story is captured beautifully.

This novel got me feeling some type of way. I'm not one of a novel-rating connoisseur but I can tell you that the translations have been done with care for the original work.

Simply one of the best modern day novel that I've read. Both MC and ML are simply pure from past to present. Lu Chen is the ML you will wished to have and Gui Xiao is the MC that girls wished to be.l, or in my case I wish to be.

Somebody in the comment section said that it's impossible to love someone for years when they are not part for a good part of your life. Wrong. I've been through that and still going through that phase. Call me... more>> pathetic or whatever you want. I've been moving on with my life. Great career and happy social life but romantic wise, I've been unsuccessful. This is why I love this series. It's like reading what I hope will be a happy ending for me. I know a similar situation like this will be almost impossible to happen in real life. 😊 I'm moving on from my 15 years heartbreak. I'm turning 30 already. 😑 Hoping that I'll have a happy ending even if it's not him. 😊 <<less

I WAS FOOLED T__T

I love the author's works and it so happens that Hui3r was the one translating this, so I thought double whammies! Even before reading this I know it'd be good and was expecting a similar overly sweet plotlines that can make one get diabetes like the author's other works.

BUT THIS ONE MADE ME CRY SO HARD MY HEARTEU CAN'T HANDLE THIS 😭😭😭

Finished! I became very sentimental as I finished the epilogue. This story was as beautiful as all the others. This was such a worthwhile read and I am very fortunate to come across this novel. 5/5 Recommended.

First of all, in my opinion this novel is so slow paced. I only reached chapter 5 and got bored, sorry to say that. On one hand the translation is nicely done.

Also, I don't see any development b/t FL and ML in these 5 chapters. Both FL and ML is on cold war, don't know where the story is going.

This novel is definitely worth reading. It is a beautiful book with a deep meaning and real approach to life. It is a slow-paced novel, but I thoroughly enjoyed reading it as I've looked forward to. I see this novel is so underrated, which is unfair, so I decided to write a review for the first time although I'm not one of the novel-rating. I hope others enjoy this novel as much as I did so give this novel a chance.

This novel is really heartwarming, after my experience with the other two books of this author is clear that the angst will be present (even if it's a HE). Specially in this one, considering that the two leads start the novel as an ex-couple. The first chapters are kind of gloomy in their tone and the interactions are awkward, but that's something you'll expect of two people who break up in bad terms. The translation is perfect and the writing style of the author was really beautiful, so I'll recommend... more>> this one for sure <<less

The Road Home is my third read from Mo Bao Fei Bao and from translator Hoju, who is probably the most phenomenal translator I've seen on the web (so far). Mo Bao Fei Bao does an excellent job of describing scenes to paint a scene for us.

The Road Home is about two high school sweethearts who drifted apart through the years as they continued their love over long distance. Yet, with many regrets about how they ended and feelings still lingering between them, they try to rekindle their relationship after... more>> meeting nine years later. However, time has changed the two of them and how they approach love. Together they unravel their past grievances and slowly open up to each other again to find the road back to their home.

This novel isn't for everyone because of its slow pace as we dive more into the characters and their issues versus the romance. It's a slow-burn romance to reignite their relationship and includes a lot of flashbacks to their youth. I thought this novel was particularly beautiful and warm because the characters and story were well connected to the theme of "home." The theme especially connects with Luo Chen and his demons through his family dynamics, leaving to join the military, and finding his purpose in life. This made Luo Chen a more fleshed-out character compared to Gui Xiao. Yet, Gui Xiao was able to stand out as a strong woman who could financially and mentally stand on her own. The story goes on their journey of how they can both be successful individuals in their own lives and be well without each other, but together, they make each other feel whole. You can feel the growth in their personality in their relationship as the story unravels.

My biggest issue with the novel is that MBFB likes writing about cold, distant, aloof male leads, and Luo Chen is one of them, especially in their youth. Then as adults, it's written off as mutual understanding between the two, a common theme in MBFB's male leads. Luo Chen is different because we get a lot more from his perspective, so despite seeing that trait in him, it was easier to connect and understand his perspective. <<less

Honestly I don't think that this book was as good as most of the review here said. I came to this novel straight after the healing sunshine and I thought that the healing Sunshine was better. I think this book has the potential but the author wasn't able to recognise it. Like for example I feel like with the snippet of their flashback, we weren't able to fully immersed in their past or understand exactly about their past relationship. In regards to the female lead pregnancy, the male lead life... more>> was not stable, his job is not stable, he also have a debt and suddenly he is willing to have a child? Novel was also a bit plain for me for in the middle that I begin speed reading all of the chapters after which I really usually dont. <<less

Thank you translator Hoju [ I truly miss you ] for the well translated novel and to dear Mo Bao Fei Bao novelist for another outstanding novel.

This one is really for the books. While reading I couldn't take my eyes out of it. The heartwrenching and at the same time heartwarming story of Lu Chen and Gui Xiao has already been engraved in my heart. My heart is paining while reading the epilogue part when they made their letters. I can say Lu Yunchen's love for GX is so pure... more>> and protective while his experience in life isnt that mature yet, the confusion on how to handle things resulted to their break up. I cried while reading his letters to GX. Actually I cried and had goosebumps whenever there were flashback parts in the chapters. My heart felt the pain but during their dating, I couldn't take my smile in me because the feeling of being in love is just so powerful. Plus the bonus here are so many, aside from the lovestory of our ML and MC, there is the friends and friendship, the story of the comrades-in-arms, the story of the families that are both dysfunctional, the story of loyalty to ones country, the inspirational qoutes - these make the novel so so so interesting and endearing. I really thank the translator. Really good job in translating.

I hope this will be adapted to drama. This will be like You are My Glory and Le Coup De Foudre.

If one is hesistating to read this like I felt before because I thought the synopsis is just so vague, pls dont. Start reading it now and you will never regret it because it is truly a wonderful novel. From all the novels of MBFB this one is the BEST for me.

OMG! This is adapted to drama and would premiere sometime in December 2022. They just wrapped up the shooting and the drama trailers were out already like weeks ago. Jing Boran and Tan Songyun were the leads. Ohhh, just watching the trailers reminds me of the poetic novel and the emotional lovestory of Lu Chen and Gui Xiao. <<less

"I absolutely adore this novel! 😍 I couldn't put it down and read it all in one day because it's a rollercoaster of emotions on every page.

It beautifully captures the essence of first love, youth, acceptance, learning from past blunders, heroism, patriotism, and of course, love - loads of it!

The story does an amazing job of highlighting the 'extraordinary' hidden within our ordinary daily lives.

It portrays the dreams and ambitions of our youth and the sometimes harsh truths of growing up.

And also, feeling that deep connection with someone, where your love is reciprocated, is truly a blessing 💫❤️

Spoiler

The ending is a real winner, it leaves you with that content and a fulfilled feeling.😊👌

This is a very touching, profound, well written and very well translated novel. While it's not quite as good as "My Mister Ostrich", which I still consider the best cnovel on NU, it's similarly mature and fulfilling in its deep coverage of not only the difficult love life of the main couple, but also the complicated lives of the people around them and many constricting aspects of the Chinese society. Thus it gives a similar feeling, at least in my opinion. Be prepared for some heavy drama and heart break.

I am not sure if this is my fifth or sixth time coming back to read this work, I am beyond excited to hear that finally it is adapted to a drama. And I really liked Gu xiao here and to be honest I really really really like millitary man so along the other work of the author I love this one. And since it was the translator who introduced me to this amazing author I am very grateful towards her, I wish I could read more of her translations... more>> work..... <<less

I lke this story, such a simple story about romance without drama, but felt so deep. It hooked me with simplicty yet meaningful.

Its a bit real for me because lots of us had this kind of experience, when you just simply can't forget your first love, but not much who chased after it and make it work. While this novel was the opposite.

This is simple, sweet novel that you can enjoyed it, in your free time. The translation was also great. Not that kind of big stories, simple, sweet love... more>> story but didn't made you bored. The act of the ML and the MC can be understand based on their background. It is a happy end too... lol.. sometimes you just need this kind of novel once in a while. Worth to try. <<less
