Lu Shang picked up a dirty teenager while discussing work at a bar. It was merely happenstance, but memories from ten years ago resurfaced when he saw the gunshot scars on the teenager’s back.

Lu Shang asked him, “What is your name?”

“Xiao Li… My surname is Li, so they all called me Xiao Li.”

“You don’t have a name?”

“I don’t remember.”

A very good bl that takes place in the backdrop of business intrigue and chronic heart disease.

The MC and ML are both strong, independant and likeable and they treat each other with respect and genuine love, even when they have drama. They hold each other up in troubled times and are happy together when things are good.

I never write reviews but I feel like I have to looking at the top liked ones since it makes me feel like "did we even read the same book..?" Because so many points she has made is just...... Plain wrong.

It is ok to not like the story but don't spread misinformation.

I'd like to now point out 3 major things: (slight spoilers, will be tagged)

1) starting off with the non-con bcz it's the only point I think make sense. While I do agree that ML has committed attempted r4pe... more>> on MC, it just feels hypocritical coming from a mdzs fan bcz lwj has literally fantasized abt it with wwx. What's more, the situation in this novel actual has backstory n build up that leads to the incident unlike incense burner which was just r4pe for the sake of being r4pe lol. I'm not judging anyone here but it just hypocritical for you to say it as an mdzs fan sorry.

2) "Power of Sex! Now you know how to cure a heart disease!" Girl, what novel are you reading seriously...

First of all, ML is among the handful of people that are actually considerate towards MC and is someone MC can trust blindly. The restraint, care, and kindness ML has shown towards MC is close to devotion rather than just love. And the fact that you only focused their physical relationship (which, in fact, ML only keeps up with when he's 100% sure about MC's comfort) just goes to show u have not fully grasped the extent of ML's consideration goes beyond it. Some quotes directly from the novel that can prove ML has only been focusing on MC's emotional needs rather than physical needs:

Previously, for Lu Shang, s*xual love was more like a kind of spiritual comfort. Thinking about doing intimate things with his lover, possessing each other and belonging to no one else, that always made him feel satisfied from the bottom of his heart. Ever since Lu Shang recovered, Li Sui was completely let loose. That was also the first time Lu Shang knew what it was like to have physiological pleasure overshadowing his mind completely.

Only recently did Lu Shang realize how much restrain Li Sui had been showing before, it must had been hard for him.

3) Lastly, if someone read the whole backstory from ch. 46 onwards and came to conclusion that "ML was brought by mc!" Then you must have holes in your brain instead. Even before this, it was made pretty clear to us that MC was on the fence with the whole surgery thing (meaning, he wasn't that adamant abt the surgery even though his doctor kept urging him) n only saved ML from his "boss" due the guilt of the past.

Their story is complex, makes you think out of the box, and cannot be painted as simply black or white.

I'm really trying to not spoil the story as much as possible than I already did, but I'll tell you one thing: this story may not be for everyone BUT! it certainly is not as bad as some people here paint it to be. If you love complex, messy yet fluff filled short story ride this book is definitely for you. <<less

It's definitely worth reading!

I've Re-read the novel more than 5 times already and I will always go back to add it again if I get the chance to 🤭

Both couples have a perfect example of unconditional love for each other which have been tested time and time again but they still keep going strong🥹

Honestly I’m so disappointed... I was so excited at the beginning bc it was really my cup of tea (I really like angst) but it just kept getting worse I had to drop it at ch.33
To be fair the story is so good and wholesome and I really like both the MC and ML,

But idk I feel like everything was rushed... I feel like there were so many things (and moments) that needed more attention and details, so unfortunately I just couldn’t feel any strong emotions

It is a good novel which made me stay up all night just to read it. Though I came for pure smut, I got this emotional rollercoaster that is so well thought out. Although the initial part was icky it is the character development that I truly enjoyed. In conclusion I would reread it again.

This novel is so good. It has everything I like in a story: angst, fluffy, character development, an interesting plot, tragic past, passing of the years, and I laughed a lot while reading, so, to me, it's totally worthy. I was in a serious deadlock with readings, nothing was suiting me, I was just reading my favorites novels all over again, but The Heart Of A Smith pulled me through it, so I'm endlessly grateful to this story. What surprised me was that it broke my expectations since the beginning... more>> bcuz I thought that Lu Shang had picked up Li Sui out of kindness but HERE COMES A SPOILER: it wasn't! There's a whole plot behind his action and I think this is amazing. In summary, it's worthy! Give it a chance, you'll probably like it <3. <<less

I cried so much that when I woke up this morning I got a very puffy eyes. I basically read them then stop and cried then read again and then cry again. This repeated a lot of times. Reading the summary I thought ‘this seems like it’s gonna suck but I’ll try it anyways.’ In the end I liked it quite a lot. My main complaints would be the numerous grammar mistakes despite having an editor most of the novel. Also the translator’s notes will interrupt the story a lot and even spoil what’s going to happen, honestly made me think ‘wtf you’re ruining it.’ The story had some abrupt time skips and the plot was okay overall, some things made it feel kind of like it was... more>> done on a whim of the author. I can also tell the author tried to be medically accurate but some things stick out, well, if you know about the topic you’ll know what’s wrong.

My praises would be the romance and main couple development, I really loved seeing the MC and ML interact, as well as their thoughts, goals, motivations. It felt really down to Earth and I found myself really absorbed into the characters, despite not having any similarities, because they were really relatable with their worldview. Although the time skips were abrupt and it felt like the novel dropped situations and characters that were introduced in earlier chapters, I think it was the right choice because otherwise the novel would be a million pages long, I did find myself wanting to know more but this story takes place over more than 7 years so maybe I really don’t want to know That Much.

I really loved the main couple’s relationship and how it changed and grew over the years into something spectacular. Plenty of heartbreak and pain, lots of agonizing chapters, but it’s a HE that made me very satisfied. <<less

This is a beautiful story that is also a rollercoaster of emotions. There's a good amount of angst and fluff in this (see tags). Both characters really grow throughout the story and they feel well developed.

I particularly liked the ML (Lu Shang). He's sickly but by no means weak. He's a powerful and strong businessman, and he's not some nice white lotus. At one point in the story I was mad at him (read the summary), but then quickly got over that.

The MC (Li Sui) is less interesting to me, only because he falls into the archetype of dedicating his life to the ML. HOWEVER, I enjoyed seeing him grow into a mature and capable adult and come to terms with his affection for the ML.

Rating: 5/5- Poignant, realistic, heartwarming and heartbreaking! Such a memorable and wonderfully told story!

This was such a rollercoaster of emotions for me. Both characters are so wonderfully written and the growth from chapter one right until the extras was so fantastically woven, it felt like these people were known to me personally!

My heart broke over and over for the leads but it was wonderful to see them overcome their own inner demons and get what they truly deserved. It was also good to see how they grew more honest and... more>> better at communication.

I honestly didn’t go into this expecting such a brilliant plot and the company politics and family ties were really well crafted. You always feel like you’re at the edge of your seat because you really aren’t certain of what is going to happen. I especially loved how much dedication the author put into medical terms and the MCs condition. It made the entire reading experience all too real.

Overall I really loved how the story progressed and the flow and logic was quite neatly tied up. The extras are really wonderful and really give the bittersweet tone of the novel a wonderfully saccharine ending to all the anguish you feel when reading.

I admire the respect and care the ML showed from start to finish. It’s wonderful to read relationship that are consensual and weak but honest and considerate characters in Yaoi. He was not perfect or all knowing but he worked so hard and his intentions were so pure. Really so rare to have such strong and beautiful characters in Yaoi.

These two are definitely in my top 5 CPs. Li Sui is a really role model like Seme.

Otherwise I 100% recommend reading The Heart of a Smith! Your heart is sure to go through many fluctuations but it’s worth the ache! <<less

I found a treasure! I hesitated at first because the description summary looks boring to me. After some time I tried reading this then boom! It's actually a hidden gem!!!! I really love this! You'll regret not reading this! (P.s. I actually jumped chapters upto 11 after reading chapter 1, but now I'm slowly reading the skipped chapters) "heart" "heart"

A very cute and relatively simple story, with a decent amount of angst and even more fluff. I enjoyed the way the relationship between our two MCs evolved over time, due to both of them growing as individuals. Near the end the couple gives the feeling of being equal partners, protecting and caring for each other lovingly. Sometimes the MCs will be so self-sacrificial that it hurts to read, but I think those moments make you understand the pain of their situation, of wanting your partner to be happy and... more>> healthy even at the cost of your own well-being. The story is filled with sweet moments that clearly show how the two cherish one another. It’s a story that makes you go “Ah I want someone to love me like this.” <<less

A very well-balanced and well-written novel. The build-up to the climax etc was well planned and executed. For me, what was good was the mostly realistic portrayal of taking care of someone who is terminally ill and the emotions that come with it.

However, for me, this novel was too "perfect", and while I liked it, it's not something I will reread again, but that's just me. Maybe because it's kinda bland? Or typical I guess, idk.

Note: Each chapter is quite long (about 2-3 times the length of a typical novel)... more>> so it'll take you about the time you would take to read a 120-150 chapter novel <<less

This novel is one of the best novels o have read in a long time! The development of Li Sui and his fears of Lu Shang leaving him is very thoroughly developed throughout the story and Li Sui’s growth in personality is really shown through the story telling. This novel is very well made and can’t wait to read it again!
