From the description and reviews, I expected the story to be highly angsty, dark and desperate. But it is actually not. It is very cute and sweet. I actually wish I knew it beforehand because I was always waiting for the other shoe to drop, for things going terribly wrong and couldn't enjoy the good times full-heartedly. But the angsty parts when they come, are resolved rather quickly and are not terribly heart-wrenching. And I loved it.

I loved everything about this story. Lin Xuanzhi and Yan Tianhen are such a... more>> beautiful, darling couple, surrounded with a huge cast of very appealing supporting characters. This book is a huge journey (and I still haven't finished reading it) ; it is not result-oriented, it is the process you should enjoy.

I'm in awe with the translators, too. I usually mtl unfinished translations no problem but here I feel I don't want to lose anything, so I'd rather wait for translations patiently. <<less

This story is really great! The MC's love for the ML (the shou) is comparable to Lan Zhan's love for Wei Ying (which you know is very overflowing love). This story will teach you a lot of lesson; such as that even though both of you love each other, sometimes it's not enough reason to be together, that fate is even against it (not the main pairing).

Gosh I hope that for the heartbroken ones they can find the love they truly deserves.

I am devastated. I was so hooked into this story that now I am dying of drawback. Why oh why can't this novel be a completely translated version already? Waiting is going to kill me soon. The characters of this novel are giving me heart attack over their adorable interactions. The first few chapters when the MC and ML weren't close the side couples kept me hooked. Now that they are close the side couples still keep me highly entertained. The ongoing theme on this novel is definitely "misunderstandings". You... more>> gonna encounter that left and right. Also positive "narcissism". But it just makes me love this story some more. I can't believe I have to wait an entire year for this story to be completed QAQ <<less

I had to make an NU account just to review this novel because it is just. SO. GOOD. Like stated in some other reviews, this novel starts out a bit slow and too much of the stereotypical rebirth with golden finger OP MC. Also the ML (Yan Tianhen) character starts out flat/seemingly s*upid. In the first arc of the story there's an unnecessary number to brainless cannon fodder villains with really shallow motivations. BUT it gets so much better!!

The story really gets good after the first ~100 chapters. The MC... more>> and ML are actually much deeper characters than initial impressions. The world building is really strong. The side characters, while very numerous, are all interesting. And the plot is very well done. There are many things that in the beginning seem arbitrary but explained later. I started off thinking this would be another rebirth xianxia featuring OP MC with inexplicable plot armor getting back at people who wronged him in his past life. I'm very glad to discover this novel is more than that! The mysteries and characters development are well done. Don't be put off with how this novel starts!

This is definitely a xianxia story, so you can expect cultivation elements and the characters slowly growing stronger. I've think this one of the better developed xianxia worlds where the treasures, beasts, weapons, classes, etc are creative and multidimensional. I personally like this story much better than The Legendary Master's Wife, both in terms of the xianxia genre and the main pairing relationship dynamic (the main couple is much better than LMW).

This is also definitely a BL novel—like seriously, does every couple need to be M/M? At least the side couples overall engaging and unique. There are some things you have to suspend disbelief on (e.g. almost everyone is a heavenly beauty, M/M relationships are said to be rare but then pretty much every couple encountered is M/M, mpreg is said to be even more rare but yet...) I overall didn't find these flaws egregious enough to take away from enjoying the story.

Some reviews pointed out that the ML is just too young (14). I definitely agree it's erring on side of creepy with the MC being 100x older. The redeeming aspect is that...
Spoiler

there hasn't been anything untoward happening even by chapter 400. It's mostly skinship and later on some kissing, but overall pretty innocent. Also the present-MC draws boundaries while ML is young so I doubt anything will happen until the ML is older. I also like that the MC respects the ML (at least in present) so there isn't any non-con/dub-con (although past-MC was pretty scummy...)

[collapse]

Anyway, I'm really into this novel and can't wait to see how things continue to develop. The translators are great and very fast! 110% recommended if you like xianxia ? <<less

I finished this entire novel using MTL and, oh, boy what a ride it was because I read all 700+ chapters nonstop for five days straight. The world is one of the most fleshed out I have ever seen with a lot of detailed politics, inner working of host of casts. There's a lot of side couples here with most of them being m/m and they all get some chance in the spotlight. Even the side couples are fleshed out and interesting! But if you only care about the main... more>> couple, some of the chapters seem to drag on a little then. I like many of the side couples especially the ML's parents and the one starring his best friend.

This is one of those rare novels where the MC is the seme/gong and the ML is the shou and I really enjoy this aspect a lot. The MC is cool, cunning, and terribly charismatic but all of his attention and love is devoted to the ML. It had to do with their last life where the MC treated the ML terribly and betrayed him and partly it was because he was a cold, unfeeling as*hole who spurn the ML's love but also there was a lot of misunderstanding construed between them by ousiders, so he'd spent a thousand years finding a way to return to the past so he can make it up to the ML for all the wrongs that had been done to him. Everytime MC brought up the past, I always cry because ML truly was a tragic character and MC had so much to make up for.

One of the my favorite things about this novel is that ML noticed how MC did a complete 180 with his personality going from an indifferent older brother to a caring and attentive one who do everything for him so naturally he was suspicious and while accepting of his brother's affections, he couldn't truly trust MC completely; he was constantly afraid that MC would abandoned him and go back to when MC hated him. Ngl, it broke my heart. This is constant theme that get brought up again because their past lives play a huge role for both of them and the story brought up a good point that should you begrudge/forgive people for actions they've done in previous life and carry it over their current life? This is super important because for MC and ML their are connected by multiple lifetimes that had ended tragically for both with betrayed and heartbreak.

The story start with the MC returning to a time when he was 17 and the ML 13 who are 'brothers' but the ML is adopted so it's slowburn the first 200+ chapters. But the main couple is very devoted and touchy with each other, a lot of hugging and holding hands that people often commented how these two 'brothers' are very close especially because the MC spoiled the ML a lot. Like, a lot. There's plenty of skinship between them and enough fluffyness that make you rot your teeth because they're really love each other and while they get jealous of other's people attention on their (little/big) brother but their eyes are only on each other; there's no third party, I really don't think there's anybody brave enough to even get between them lol.

Spoiler

The early age definitely can be skeevy for many people because of how young ML is and the MC is technically his brother, even though he's adopted.

[collapse]

For the first 100 chapters, the story start off like any normal story of the MC trying to regain back his position and power as he attempt to stop the plots against him and removed the people who hurt the ML in the past life. After that, the story truly picked up in pace and complexity that involve the whole realm and beyond. It got really exciting and I excitedly read each chapter with bated breath. The storyline is really colorful and multilayers because it tied with their past lives and the struggle of multiple realms that bounded in their identity. Because the story is so long, it hit a little of everything! Treasure hunting, exploration, clan politics, taoist/secular divide, sect training and competition, uniting the realm vs the evil etc. Every arc hit a little differently and take the story to new height so it never really get repetitive!

The novel is split between two volumes where the first take place in the lower realm where the characters are trying to find a way to go back to the upper realm and the second vol is all about the upper realm. I would say a lot of drama and heartache take place in the second vol where everything tied together.

I wouldn't necessary say this novel is super angsty but there are time it literally trampled all over my heart especially:

Spoiler

When the ML remembered their past life and how MC had cruelly betrayed him. He was so angry and hurt that I was hurt with him even though the MC made so much effort to give the ML the best thing in their current life; it was so heartbreaking for the two of them because MC basically spent a thousand year trying to redeemed himself and ML was so hurt and suffered so much in their last life that he even attempted to break his soul so he couldn't be reborn and see MC anymore. That really broke me. There's also the part where we found out the payment that MC had to pay for going back in time is that everyone will forget about his existence when they head off to the upper realm so even ML didn't remember his beloved. They spent eight years apart while MC quietly watched over ML and protected him, accepting his fate of never being together with ML again because his heart was literally head inside now.

[collapse]

This novel deal a lot with misunderstanding and past lives. A lot of the couples conflict stemmed from misunderstandings each other motives and feelings, but they eventually get resolved. Some people may find that annoying but I didn't think it was big deal because they eventually talk it out especially the main couple because oh boy, all their past could pretty much fault on not talking to each other, but you'll realize close to the end it's actually not their fault at all.

Spoiler

As you read, you'll find out that MC and ML's fate are intrinsically intertwined. One is the star of salvation (MC) and the other destruction (ML), but the MC with a beautiful refined appearance and noble characteristic yet is cunning and manipulative that bellied a cruelty streak if any harm fall on ML while ML has ugly scars all over his face and is half devil but his heart is kind and he has such a bright personality. I love the ML so much! Such a bratty and mischievous child! The MC spoiled him ridiculously and let get him away with so much that everyone can't help commenting on it lol. My fav line that I can even remember is when ML got in trouble stealing a sacred scroll from a clan and MC had to go and rescued him, so ML begged him: "I'm your most intimate and obedient baby, can you not punish me?" and I lol'd hard, the shamelessness in this brat.

[collapse]

One of the few disappointment is that there aren't a lot of female chars and if they are, it's skewed toward the villains side. And even though I find myself liking a lot of the side couples introduced, some of the chapters focusing on the conflicts of the side couple get dragged on so I would often skipped them because I just like the main couple way more. There were a few loose ends I couldn't figure out but I don't know if that's because the MTL was bad or it's actually the story's fault. It didn't bugged me to bad.

Spoiler

The early age difference and youth earlier I mentioned definitely can be skeevy for many people because of how young ML started off and the MC is technically his brother who grew up with him, even though they're not blood related. Though, ML and MC never had any brotherly/familial relationship in their past life and their current one either. The skinship between MC and ML, which was mostly above ground, until MC confessed his feelings for ML around 200+ chapters and ML was still 13-14ish. That's when their relationship definitely took a romantic undertone with plenty of kisses and MC promising to wait for ML to grow up soon. So yea, it is skeevy. There's also the problem with the author not waiting for ML to 'properly' grow up and did a three years time jumped as some sort of plot device for MC and ML to grow up quickly and speed up their relationship. Like, in the story they explained how MC and his group got trapped in this forest that it was in some time dilation where three days was like three years so the group literally aged up super quickly. I would have rather MC and ML grew up normally, especially in the ML case because just because ML is 16-17 now, doesn't make him emotionally equipped for a romantic relationship with his 'dage'. I don't know, I feel cheated out by that arc.

[collapse]

I really love this story so much that even after I finished I even went back to reread my favorite parts! Personally, it's ranked at the top of my list. <<less

If not must read, but at least must try. Wonderful BL x xianxia.

What to expect:

  • vast detailed world, yet not overly descriptive, it lays down enough information;
  • wonderful dimensional characters, MCs are not totally perfect and side characters are not plainly good or villain, face-slapping cannon fodder is present;
  • nicely paced, balanced story about rebirth (more turning back in time) and trying to fix past mistakes with many themes to explore. But the story doesn't stop there when it achieves the first visible goal.
The story revolves around LXZ, who unlike many reborn leads... more>> spends thousand years cultivating his soul after losing his life, with the help of an artifact he finally can turn back time and finds himself at the moment of his utmost low, when he lost his cultivation as a swordsman, but also the turning point of his past young self when he started to make wrong choices. What I like about this part is the burden of years, he doesn't turn into a genius craftsman overnight, he worked hard to get there. And also it explains his overly protective and cautious behavior towards the one he wronged the most. Ultimate beauty, but not without faults.

His younger brother he wronged the most in the past, YTH, is one hell of a cute bun. He wasn't bestowed beauty, on the contrary the mystery of the seal on his body made his face bear awful cracks and his leg limp when he walks, but he's quick-witted and sharp-tongued. It's a big pleasure when he retorts with fake naiveness. Always ready to bare his teeth when someone badmouths his LXZ.

This novel has many-many side-characters and side-couples, many of those are impossible not to enjoy. And of course the story. <<less

Thanks for the hard work translating~

I would have to say this is a dog blood through dog blood novel it's just a heart-breaking tragedy I was crying a lot through this, and I was taking breaks because I couldn't handle it because I'm emotionally sensitive lol, so it took me 8 months to actually complete this novel.

I would have to say it's a 7.8/10 I would give it higher ratings if there weren't so many plot holes and the ending wasn't so abrupt don't worry its, HE. But now I... more>> heard there's actually 12 extras that just haven't been translated yet so maybe my rating will go up if anyone ever translates that.

but also, because there is way too much r*pe like it was ridiculous, I feel like everyone was assaulted and there was so much dubious consent it was turning me numb at one point.

But I would also say this novel is no way boring it kept me hooked there was some parts where there was a lull where I took a break but then I realized next chapter things heated up again and it's actually very memorable I feel like I'll still remember everything I kind of want to reread but I feel like I got to be a little bit stronger maybe not after a long while I still feel empty ha ha ha

but if you want a good cry and you want to enjoy some drama this novel for you <<less

One of the most misogynistic work I've read. Women are made petty and unreasonable. 295 chapters in and only 3 women are not so bad at this point and all of which are mentioned in passing.

Spoiler

They are Li Zhantian's mother, a very minor character. And a lesbian couple they encountered on the Pill Mountain Realm or sumn. Another minor characters. And when I thought there'll be a decent girl character, the author made it out as a boy disguising into a woman. Yikes.

[collapse]

And there were no consistency at all. A character design will be flipped for no reason. Villains are flat out 2D characters, no one thinks and it frustrates the hell out of me. I thought there'll be improvement, but at 295, there's none at all.

If only I'm good at giving reviews, I'll continue my tirade till 3K words just to express how awful of a reading experience this work gave me.

2 stars for the translators. <<less

If you like face-slapping, savage one-liners and an intricate world with many competing powers, then this book will be it for you.

I really like the MC because he is a very flawed human being. I like him because he was a scum man who learned from his mistakes. How rare is that? As rare as phoenixes and qilins, that's what! We see the MC suffering and growing and becoming a better person. I especially enjoy seeing him suffer. However, OP MC may be, but he has deep rooted fears... more>> because of his past life. As a consequence of that, he indulges our little shou a little too much.

There were some reviews that mentioned our shou's tantrums. But did they somehow forget the 13 years of life where he was basically ignored by the MC or disdained by him due to which he was further persecuted in the Lin family? I will refer to MC as LXZ (Lin Xuanzhi) and shou as YTH (Yan Tianhen)
Spoiler

Our MC basically has 180 degree character change in regards to his treatment to YTH. How is he supposed to feel secure? It's ok if it's a gradual change but he completely dotes to YTH without regards to his own health. YTH is testing him and also trying to find LXZ's bottomline.

[collapse]
Anyway this only lasts around 10-15 chapters in the 700+ novel. I don't see how this would color how the entire novel progresses? It's unreasonable, at least for me, to judge the entire book based on the situation described in 10 chapters. Now, coming to the world building, I have some issues with the power system described. However, the types of forces, the power struggles between the cultivation families and the upper and lower realms was described exquisitely. I really enjoyed this aspect of the novel. Also, the running gag in the novel, where every few chapters, we get to see a heavenly beauty just tickles me so. I swear the author must be trolling us readers. Otherwise, this is just too funny. The shamelessness factor in the MC, ML and even some of the side charas are so off the charts!! The fluff is fluffy. The angst is swear to God too heart-rending. I wait eagerly for the updates of this story. It is one of my favorite novels.

Also, reviewing a book where you've read only 200/700+ chapters is basically like critiquing an essay based on a single paragraph. It doesn't make sense. I will likely edit this as I read more. However, as of now, I am very satisfied with the world building. Especially, the incorporation of business and money as capital to increase power. It makes everything so much more believable. The artifacts descriptions and the spiritual pets are the final touch that make everything just right for me.

Also, very high quality translation. And we have 5 updates/week which is such a treasure. <<less

on the plus side the interactions between the MC and ML are interesting and sometimes cute and I like the mystery behind the ML's poisoning and birth, the MCs non existent "mom" and the MC's dad's "death." now onto the bad. I normally like cultivation stories but after reading up to the latest chapter I have decided I really came to the wrong place. 1) I don't like Mpreg stories and this one has many guys popping out kids.
Spoiler

where do they grow? How do they pop out? Magic? Or do they get crapped out the back? If they come out the back then where does the kid grow and where does the pregnant person poop from? My inability to find a logical place for them insemianate a nonexistent egg through the back door, to grow a kid somewhere in the male body (which has no womb) and give birth through a nonexistent birth-can*l always gets in the way and throws me out of the story. I will never understand mpreg.

[collapse]

2) I don't like s*upid and naive characters.
Spoiler

that perfectly describes the ML as well as a few other side characters. The ML starts off as a 13 year old kid so there's some excuse, though other 13-15 year old kids are getting engaged and plotting the downfall of their enemies and killing people just because they're weak. I don't know if he stays dumb and naive because as of the latest chapter, he's still 13. The other s*upid characters are already adults so they have no excuse.

[collapse]

3) I also dislike pointless misunderstandings and this novel has so many that it should be in the tags.

4) and I while I know other people like multiple povs, I could care less what everyone else is thinking and plotting; I'm reading this for LXZ story, not theirs.
Spoiler

this novel has a ton of side couples so it jumps to their stories now and then right in the middle of an arc, which is both messy and irritating. I like it better when the side character stories are told in the extras so I can focus on one couple at a time. And it really bothers me when the author wastes even more chapters of pov on cannon fodder villains that we will never see again.

[collapse]

my conclusion: read the tags carefully before you start (though in my defense it doesn't say Naive and s*upid ML/side characters, Misunderstandings, or Multiple POVs up there). This story isn't for me and I think giving it almost 100 chapters is giving it enough of a chance to really tell. I gave it a 3 because it has some tolerable parts to it.

Spoiler

Some of my comrades in previous comments explained all the holes and faults perfectly in this book. Generally, I'm not a person who evaluates histories harshly, and I'm not bothered by misplaced facts or holes. Still, my bottom line is when the buildup of the story changes. I cannot help but feel like I am being led up a garden path.

The story already starts losing momentum with the search for the artifacts, and it is completely destroyed when the Array of the Five Continents falls. LXH's last life no longer seems important and has no effects whatsoever. Still, the worst comes when the traits and personalities of the main characters magically change. I especially abhor how YTH suddenly becomes pretentious and loses all his personality to become a typical golden-spoon child.

Seconding other opinions, this story had the opportunity to become a classic of this genre; its attempt is a sad loss for all.

It was a long adventure that ended abruptly at chapter 774. RSCB can be liked to LMW but without the sexy scenes and also less funny than the latter. Thank you to Chrysanthemum Garden group for their hardwork & awesome translation quality, as always.

If you're looking for a story with a long haul adventure, RSCB is highly recommended. You'd get some sweet and lovely scenes here and there and other angst filled chapters too.

Sadly, the extra chapters haven't been translated yet. I hope a TL group picks this up soon.

Looking... more>> forward to the future of LXZ and YTH as well as the closure of other side couples.

So after almost a hundred chapters the MC just casually reflects on how he literally r*ped the ML because (a) he wanted to advance his cultivation and (b) thought it would be funny to r*pe his brother who he knows has feelings for him.

I was, initially, interested in this as I wanted a light read and have been waiting for the translations to finish before actually starting. I had high hopes because the premise reminded me of LMW-- not that it was particularly good, but it was entertaining.

Reading this, I felt very frustrated.

I agree with IceBaby's comment, "Slow paced, at this point I continue reading begrudgingly with 20% enjoyment."-- except that I'm just stubbornly pushing through with only 5% enjoyment, on my end. I feel the responsibility to finish what I started even... more>> though I've reached the point where I'm barely running on fumes.

I feel this novel is geared more towards younger audiences, like teens to young adults. It is obvious that the author is still in the process of maturing as a writer, and as a person, based on this work. The writing style could use a lot more work; a wider vocabulary will also enhance the writing quality, as a whole. Better to use well-established proverbs with more profound meaning than modern commonplace expressions, given the setting of the story is the cultivation world; it gets confusing, sometimes, and it pulls the reader out of the story due to incongruity.

In terms of character design, the author left a lot of room for improvement. Most characters, but the MC an ML, especially, are written in a very inconsistent manner.

Written as 'wise, ' but we see 'obtuse."

Depicted as 'enigmatic, ' but we see 'obvious.'

Labelled as 'clever, ' but we see 'inept.'

This novel is a classic example of an author's attempt on the "show, don't tell" writing technique, and failing.

Spoiler

RANT

The ML (shou) is so unbearably s*upid, it's getting harder and harder to read this novel because of how unbelievably ignorant but self-righteous this character is. The author writes that the MC (gong) and other supporting characters think that the ML is insightful and good at reading people but, as a reader, I just don't see that.

He is always inviting unnecessary trouble to the MC because of his thoughtless words and actions. When he's being rude and disrespectful to other people, he gets praised for being 'clever' and is thought of as 'cute' when he's being brainless.

I just don't understand their standards....

So I read this a long time ago so my memory is a bit foggy but I really loved the xianxia genre at the time so I read this for the BL too.

At first, it was interesting, MC was likable. As for ml, I didn't really like him that much, his character also felt a bit inconsistent at times such as being bratty one moment then being a witty smart ass the next.

Couples-

MC and ML - their relationship is complicated and I know MC felt bad for mistreating ML who... more>> loved him so much he suffered for MC.

However, to say ML had it worst in the past life is true to some extent yet also not, because ML at least had people around him who cared for him and even at the present life. Compared to MC, he was pretty much alone with no real friends who cared for him besides ML which is pretty tragic.

Their love is, well, it has its sweet moments. MC pampers ML and indulges him.

Side character's love-

I don't remember the side character names anymore but I felt that there were too many gay couples (I don't have an issue with this) but, it felt like there was too much and it became a chore reading their romance when I came specifically for MC and ML's love story along with the plot.

Plus, the side characters romance dynamics were very similar to each other (cold gong x tsundere-like shou) and popped up as side stories during the main story which put me off reading the novel bc I got bored (and I hate skipping or skimming chapters).

I also felt like ML was loved wayyyyyyy more than MC (I don't have a problem with this) BUT, the author makes him sound so much more tragic and sad than MC.

These are the reasons why:

1. ML had that Duan guy (both past + present) who love him very much as a friend.

2. Was surrounded by people who helped him but just decided to stick by abusive MC cuz of love which they supported and tried to help ml.

3. MC's father. Its told that MC's father died protecting ML. Now what I don't understand is how MC's father left all the inheritance or whatever to ML bc he was afraid MC, his OWN son, would harm ml. Does that make sense anyone??

I just felt like MC was actually abandoned by the whole world and abused ML in his previous life just to pamper and spoil him in his new life.

It felt like the whole novel was tailor made just to pamper the ML and show off how everyone should love him and even the abuser (MC) would feel regretful afterwards and make it up to him.

Overall, the novel ended up becoming bland to me now that I'm thinking back but bc this was one of the first few xianxia concept I was being shown, I didn't notice anything wrong.

FYI, I have fully read Legendary master's wife (LMW) and even all its monotonous stages bc it was my very first BL xianxia novel I read and a common trope in almost any BL (especially cultivation type ones) is the women being depicted as jealous, shallow and just horrible people in general.

Overall rating is a 3 stars just cuz I like MC and the beginning of the story was interesting. <<less

f*ck there's a lot of sweetness with dogblood mixed in because the past life of MC is full of bitterness that he witnessed or has caused. However I will say despite f*cked up things MC did in his second life he goes above and beyond to try to make up his mistakes. Also, not only do you see MC having a second chance but also a lot of side characters due to MC's influence were able to change their own misfortunate lives.

I just want to quickly say that there are... more>> good female characters who are not cannonfodders. Actually they are a yuri couple. Just letting everyone know. <<less

I’m not sure how to rate this story yet. Each arc has such major changes from the previous that I almost have whiplash. Don’t get me wrong, it’s very engaging as a story. I simply find it hard to keep reading when main characters get tortured so badly by the plot. This story may be for you if you like complex story lines that almost require taking some notes to solve the mysteries.

There are a few major distinct arcs tied to the main couples current and past live (s). The... more>> story starts not long after the gong has reverted time in order to save the shou. It’s hinted heavily before the end of this arc that the gong is going to pay a major price for this decision. The heavenly dao comes to collect just when it seemed that we might get a happy ending. The main characters end up separated for the next 8 years (time skip). The gong is suddenly not in a rush to get with the shou any more. This arc is not only the MCs coping with the obvious cost, but also the hidden cost that the gong is hiding from everyone. Many new cast members are introduced now that the setting has changed to a new realm. Some are tied to the much referenced immortal-demon war of 10000 years in the past.

The arc I am currently reading is a resurgence of that very war as well as entanglements of... yet another past life! I have a feeling that one or both of them may have originally been from an even higher realm. My guess, with very little evidence to back it up, is that our MC (s) descended from a higher world to go through his/their immortal (love) tribulations, or something similar. It’s probably the gong if so, but I’d personally prefer if our shou was the one screwed over and pulled into earthly desires by the seemingly righteous sword-obsessed gong. <<less

Well It's surprising this story only has a rating of barely below four.

I have read this story until chapter 500+++, and what I see here is this story has perfect world building.

If you compare it with "The Legendary Master Wife." Which have the same genre, then this story is much more perfect.

I personally think this story has the same class as HOB, FOD or The World Is Online.

So far the only drawback may have been in the depiction is when the ML get punishment and became forgotten in everyone's memory, the way the author make this twist is little bit cliche, but the other plot twist in this story is very awesome.

Okay I'm going to preface this by saying that I read some of the novel via google translate.

I really liked the first half of the book and after the made it to the nine realms it was looking to be good. But where was the family/political drama and assassination attempts, instead there was an apocalypse synereo. Lin Xuanzh was doing great at collecting people from all the big families of the realm so he could unify it like thd damn prophecy had said he would. Hey weren't he and Yan Tianhen supposed to get married and rule over everyone? No, instead the author decided to ignore the whole plot and instead change it to an apocalypse scenario. And you know what was even worse, suddenly Lin Xuanzh and Yan Tianhen were reincarnations of two antagonists from 10, 000 years ago. Sure maybe it would've been cool if there was the giant battle we were being promised but instead the last 15 chapters were flashbacks! Flashbacks of the characters from 10, 000 years ago. Did anyone ever get married, no did the realm get united, did Lin Zhan ever give birth, did the phoenix ever reclaim his throne, they never even explained that the 10, 000 Yan Tianhen had split his soul and that's why they were both the same person. Nothing got wrapped up and the author just let it all go to shit.

I mean instead of tying up anything in the end the author just made it

I would recommend stopping after the first half, it is a very complete story and it feels like the author added on the second 300 chapters because it was popular. <<less

This book is great for the first 170 chapters or so. Then it becomes painfully bland. So bland it's an ordeal to read through a chapter and find motivation not to skip the next ten.

That aside, the world building is focused on a lot. Maybe too much as it leads to info dumps dialogues and deductions in every chapter, instead of exciting new activities.

The relationships? Well, there's a slight hiccup here. I don't know if the author did it subconsciously. In this novel, it is hinted that though same sec... more>> relationships are not taboo, they aren't the usual everyday affair either. At least that's the impression the writer (and the reactions of a few cannon fodders) gives. Yet every relationship is same s*x (the handful that aren't are enemies? It's funny but true).

Oh well, 98% of the characters introduced are male so it makes sense. Next, male pregnancy ought to be a rarity, especially in their lower realm, but a few dozen/hundreds chapters later, almost every couple pairing around the leads is pulling out a method to get pregnant from their hamper basket. At this point, the MC isn't special anymore, neither is the ML either. It's kinda like the low-key norm.

That aside, plot holes appear here and there as the writer adjusted their backstories but it's okay. The fight scenes are sometimes good but also something painfully unseasoned and summarised. The forging scenes on the other hand are quite good but not focused on later. Lots of great opportunities for soaring clan building, profitable business expansion, /forging tantalising crafting narratives and so on are not expanded on. The adventure though are unique but barely exciting, profitable or vicious enough. The MC basically skids though everything like an immortal. What is very good though is the MCs attitude towards the side characters. A lot of side characters have well rounded traits that balance out good and bad, nice and nasty, pretty and ugly in them. They are great till the fluff. Every couple's fluff is the same, flat lining like a dead heart on a heart monitor. Fluff is cute at first but each couple's dynamic is nearly the same: shy, sharp mouthed, cute, tsundere bottom and their doting, pampering, attentive henpecked top. Same formula.

And the plot, oh the plot. This is not a brainless face slapping fantasy. But there are lots of satisfying faceslaps. But the MC and his enemies are quite realistic in the sense that they don't brainlessly continue hating each other and fighting when there is a bigger hurdle. The MC realises and learns a lot about misconceptions he might have had about some people in his past life too.

Overall, my biggest point is the disappointing writing later in the book that bordered on mundane. <<less
