Wholesome and angsty at the same time.

A hidden gem. The story telling is compelling

Both ML and FL are extremely cold to each other and have many flaws and scars, as the story progresses, we get to know them better and how outside factors affected their relationship.

I really enjoyed how they warm up to each other, become honest, fix their relationship and how their jobs affected them too. (Firefighter x Doctor)

It’s nicely paced and I couldn’t stop reading. 5/5 would totally recommend.

How FL needs to depend on her family or ML for housing, etc. She’s a really capable surgeon and should earn good money and yet the author writes her as someone who cannot support herself financially.

I gave it 22 chapters, now I am dropping this novel. I am honestly baffled at all the five stars reviews, though I guess, different views and likes make the world more interesting.

Still, my take is a little harsher, mostly because I am so disappointed in what the novel could have been:

All the characters are dislikeable to varying degrees. If I question myself after reading one-third of the novel whether I care if one of the main characters dropped dead in the next chapter and the answer is no, I... more>> guess there's really no reason to continue reading.

As the characters are still very one-dimensional - the ML is always angry and sarcastic in her presence, she is either acting like a victim or as someone with a princess complex voicing selfish demands - it is a very plot-driven novel, which is unfortunate as the sequence of events s*cks too (within a couple of months how many times can a surgeon be coincidentally involved in rescue operations without being called there in an official work-related capacity? Oh please *snorts*).

Not to mention the typical underlying misogyny. I am sorry, but what exactly was the purpose of that scene in the first couple of chapters where the

brother and the male family friend picked a female companion out right in front of her? I think this is actually one of the most detailed scenes in this novel so far, if not the most detailed, and it left me utterly disgusted. If the sole purpose

was to "hint" that the non-related "brother" is in love with the FL, I guess the author might as well have written in a sledgehammer with the FL's name and a heart on it. And why does this novel even need the typical trope of the brother of the adoptive family falling for the FL? Why does the ML need a female friend that is in love with him and feels entitled to antagonize any woman showing a bit of interest in him even after apparently having been long rejected by him? It doesn't feel like the author is even trying to be original or compelling in their writing except for maybe the background story of the leads.

And why do adult women, and in this case one bearing lots of professional responsibility and pressure, always need to act like a little kid in front of the ML? How many times in these 22 chapters did she clutch his shirt or whatever, even in majorly inappropriate situations like an accident scene? She's a surgeon, for heaven's sake. I wonder if this can be considered culture clash, but I find this so disgusting and embarassing as a fellow woman, no matter how many times Chinese writers use this. The male ego sure needs to be stroked constantly, even in fictional romance novels written for a female audience. God forbid they have to handle a mature and independent woman. If the purpose is to show the FL letting down her walls and showing her vulnerability in front of him, then this definitely isn't it and I lose all respect for her as a human being considering how she treats him otherwise.

The whole novel just feels depressing and dark in every way that it makes me feel soul-tired just reading this. Ask me if there's one thing interesting or compelling in this story and I can't name even one thing. And don't even try the argument "This is supposed to be depressing because of the FL's issues" - then the author should help me as a reader understand where her selfishness and inability to grow up stem from. A skilled author can make me dislike a character or their choices and yet still make me care about them and root for their personal development and happiness. This is clearly not the case here. In the hands of a better author, I am sure this could have been a great read, but alas it is just another shallow and boring novel. Which is really sad as I think writing novels about characters with mental illnesses or trauma is very important to raise general awareness about such issues.

Well, I wanted to read this novel to get a general sense of the characters and the plot before watching the drama, but as I read a comment somewhere saying the FL is better written in the novel than in the drama, I am too scared to even think about watching. What a bummer. <<less

Storyline is so rich... enough fluff, drama and even hints of smu-smu. Probably the first novel in NU that made me save quotes so much. I really missed reading this kind of thought-provoking yet sweet novel.

I hope everyone gives a chance to read this, it's really an underrated gem ^^

Adding: Being associated in the medical field, a lot of the statements in this novel also made me ponder a lot in regards to this field. Everything in this story, even the side characters like MC's 'brother' is so good... plus ML's backstory as well. This is one of the most heartbreaking but at the same time also the most heartwarming story that I've ever read. After reading for a few chapters, I really started to think that this is a tragic story (which is I avoid when choosing my reading list). Thank God that's not the case.

At first, I really dislike FL because she broke ML's heart due to her cowardice and I really hope that ML doesn't go back together with her. But when I think about it again, what she did back... more>> then is understandable. She was young and she put an importance of her family and ML also couldn't give her anything except love. What if someday their love fade away? She'll be left with nothing, no family and no lover too.

But their 10 years of separation is not for naught. They become more mature. Also, they now have a steady job and could support themselves without their family's help.

It's just I feel a bit pity towards 2nd ML (FL's step brother). FL used to like him and ML silently liked her too. But due too their family's oppression, they couldn't be together. Later, she meets ML and the rest is history.

But I still hate the fact that FL's adopted parent never apologize to ML for their scheme 10 years ago that almost took his life. They also never clear his name till the end (even after ML's cousin helps their son from being framed). What a hypocrite. <<less

I just had to rate this novel above 5 star.

I never been nervous reading each chapter keep hoping their happy ending. Thanks God this novel don’t have tag tragedy on it.

this will be my another favorite novel and will re read for sure. The story so sweet yet it feels so real. It’s not a cliche story that everything must be perfect love relationship. All the feeling described in the novel feel so real, the insecurities, worries and doubt that made MC personalities that affect their relationship.

At first I thought... more>> it’s just MC that sacrifice so much for ML (hint she spilled it out all when she drunk.) but the huge sacrifice that ML done really melt me down though he never say it to MC but I think they both have tacit understanding. I just loved ML characters so much, I just wished can found one like him.

just a little hint.. My favorite chapter is 62. <<less

Novel is extremely overrated. I don't understand why I only see 4-5 stars on a novel that isn't as great as it's been made out to be. First and foremost, the grammar/translation. It isn't hard to read, but it's extremely unappealing. Honestly no better than MTL quality.

The ML and FL, both stubborn and I particularly find the FL unbearable for the first dozen or two chapters. ML has every right to treat her in the way he has, but she is shameless enough to keep barging into his life while... more>> continuing to be indecisive after already hurting him before. Sure she had her reasons, but come on. Could she not have been less cruel to him?

The way they reconciled also seemed a bit too forced to me. Maybe it's due to the translation, but I really couldn't feel any emotional attachment to their characters or feelings. I see that this novel is being retranslated and there's definitely an improvement, so when it's done perhaps I'll reread this and change my opinion, but my initial first read was nothing short of disappointing. <<less

After ten year of yearning they were together. I didn't like how her adopted parents were, too much of control is not good for mental health. But I would reread again.

Thank you translator for the hard works. And I'm sorry if I rated this 4, that should have been 5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐.
Additional: Thank you Translator Maem for completing all the chapters. ❤️ This one is a good read. I like how the story goes. I understood why the MC loves the ML all through the ten years of her life. The same way how the ML loves the MC although he suffered so much. They both have their own sound reasons. Their love story is somewhat heart breaking in the first but it gets better after they truly decided they were for each other. This novel will touch your heart. Their senior hs years were not meant for them to be together but after ten years during their ealy thirties the perfect timing came. As the saying goes "there is always a perfect time for everything ".

PS: Aside from the story what I love most here is the MLs name wc is Song Yan.

PS: This novel is now adapted to drama who will be portrayed by YangYang and Wang Churan as SongYan and XuQin. I am excited for the drama version.

I usually skip chapters in between because of filler chapters, you know where if you have missed a chapter or two it doesn't really matter. But reading this novel I couldn't bring myself to skip even a paragraph.

I am writing this review because I feel there are some stories that touch your heart on so many ways, with every word from the author you are living through the story rooting for the characters. It's captivating even in it's realness, falling in love with your soulmate when you are young and... more>> ignorant, then at some point reality breaks into your dreams. Time flew by, when I met you again I couldn't let go. I have cried and laughed and wished so hard to take away all pain from the protagonists.

I feel that this story is so perfect, the author didn't need to include an epilogue. This story didn't need that, I feel it kinda took away a bit of charm factor. But oh well, they got their happily ever after. <<less

Man... song yan the ML here is prob the best ML I have ever read from cn novel so far. Song Yan might not have a high status, a over bearing CEO, a marquis or a prince but the way he loves the FL is some thing I admired. The dude literally went training in CHINESE special forces (which I bet is real hard) just so he can be with the FL. Even though he went through all that, beastly end up half dead, and facing the FL indecisiveness, even... more>> after a number of years, he still loves her. This makes me admire him a lot especially how he loves the FL here.

i would say the dark horse of this novel is prob the flash back to the two mains past in high school. The little snippet we get and seeing how they interact with each other back in HS is very cute that I almost want a spin off just base on those days. (Their 1st time is also oddly cool is u know what I mean *wink*).

if u are like me and quite enjoy their HS days (similar relationship dynamic during HS) or want to read some fluff romance I rec transmigrating to become the boss little fairy.

As to what drove me to write this review... yang yang playing song yan is such a disappointment for me. I cant but forget his not so good acting in weiwei. (Even though I love songyan so much... why director whyyyyy) <<less

This novel is just too good🤧🤧 Their love for each other is so heartbreaking yet warm. I really like Xu Qin dialogue "In the end, I could only be with him. For ten years, I only keep standing in my place, but he is patient enough to still come to me after all that."

Having someone wait for you, even without your commitment, is so heartbreaking for him but it warms you. This just goes to show how much love Song Yan has for Xu Qin.🥺🥺

I am really happy XuQin decide... more>> to never betray Song Yan again. I heard next year it will get a drama adaptation, I will go watch it with my tissue. 😭😭😭 February 2022: I heard that Yang Yang is going to play Song Yan, I'm so excited XD. He is a real military school graduate and I also heard he had played a Chinese Special Forces soldier. His acting in You are My Glory is also great! I am glad his acting has improved since Love O2O. The female lead Wang Churan is also beautiful, and she has acted in good films. My only disappointment is with it broadcasted on national tv, a lot of snu snu scenes will be deleted : (Ahhhhhh even though I really love it when they do it, especially during high school years. TT.   • i think the two of them hve gone through A LOT and deserve so so much happiness
  • i love the writing too might be one of the best that i've read, makes me want to learn Chinese for the sole reason to experience novel like this in it's own original language
  • fl, she's so detached as I read in the beginning it feels like she will go/vanish just like that I feel like those 10 years and when she went back to china she has been hanging on a single thread. It's so sad reading from her pov it feels like from her eyes her surrounding is actually a distant world from her.
  • that's why a good parenting method is crucial
  • her parents were tr*sh it makes mine pales in comparison

it was a whole lot of emotional rollercoaster ride. Each and every incident brought somewhat a change in the characters and their views in life.

female lead is all an all not as much of a likable character (even the ML knows that lol) but things that happened to her makes sense for why she isn't as likable. This is also a what made me keep reading her story. So Ig ig I did started to like her after all.

I finished this in a day and this story make me cry for so long I can't. I love how the ML treats the FL, the way he show his love to her really make my heart weak. This story is a gem. Try to read this, you will not regret that because this story is so good. At first you will feel annoyed, but then you will understand the reason behind their action, they srtuggle in their on way and that's really break my heart.

Firefighter ML x Doctor FL who was adopted into a rich family

This one was a very angsty and somewhat melodramatic novel, especially in regards to the family situation. FL and ML were separated due to FL choice, which was driven by pressure from her family. It's a little more serious in the sense that her family adopted her, so she carries that sense of dependency and obedience towards her family's decision. I don't hate or blame FL; in her situation, she was trapped between 2 hard decisions, and her decision... more>> to leave ML at that point in time was a mixture of fear and helplessness. Could she have done it in a gentler way? Maybe. But I don't begrudge her. In some sense, both FL and ML were loyal to each other in the end, and they never truly gave up on each other, despite the hurt and pain they caused each other and themselves. ML is a dedicated, righteous hardworking man who I'm pretty sure is very hard if not impossible to find irl. His pure focus and dedication in working harder to create a better future for himself and FL is touching and also heartbreaking. He stands by his morals, even at the expense of himself (and FL's feelings, but that's not his fault). As a firefighter, that sense of purpose to save others is admirable. Their relationship was filled with hurdles after hurdles, but they managed to overcome it all in the end. FL needed to overcome her fear and muster the courage to face her family's objections, while ML... well, he already loved her anyways, he just needs to wait and improve his circumstances.

The story, especially initially, was written mostly descriptive style. Every sentence was just a description of what was happening, which makes reading kind of dull. I'm not sure, but its possibly a combination of original author writing style and the translation. So read at your own risk.

Translation was wonky at times, in terms of sentence structure and grammar. Still understandable but a little uncomfortable to read.

Overall, very angsty novel of family pressure, class differences and sacrifices for love. Worth reading for some tears (I cried a lot) but beware of the translation's grammar. <<less
