It was something that happened while I was waiting for the day of the primary school entrance exam. I realised that I had become one of the characters of a shoujo manga that I loved reading in my old life, ‘You Are My Dolce’.

The role I was assigned was a character who bullied the commoner protagonist and tried to get in the way of her love with a rich boy nicknamed Emperor; a typical villainess rich girl, Kisshouin Reika.

At the end of the story, Reika suffered the Emperor’s retribution and even her family fell into ruin. With the villain gone, the protagonist and the Emperor overcame their trials and became a couple. And they lived happily ever after.

Wait, that’s terrible for meee! The manga ended there, but I have to continue living my life after my family is ruined!

The protagonist can enjoy her romance or love or whatever on her own. I’ll erase my presence so that I don’t anger the Emperor.

Eh-? The story isn’t progressing well because there’s no villain, you say? But I’m busy saving up money and studying so that I can live well after the collapse.

Grammar: 4/5

Writing: 3.5/5

Story: 3.2/5

... more>> All caught up, still loving every bit of this. Still trying to decide on who to ship with the MC. It's been 140 chapters... I still can't figure out who I want to ship with her.

I'm honestly loving this series, and fairly sad that I've almost caught up with the current release.

The grammar is fairly well done, a few instances where the syntax stumbles, but nothing too glaringly obvious. The writing is wonderful and humorous, leaving me smiling with each chapter. The story isn't the most original but has enough personal flair to pull it away from its genre to be quite enjoyable.

All in all, loving this story and looking forward to continuing this series. <<less

Really enjoyable little series for light feels. There's a clear lack of urgency or grand plot which might be a turn-off for some, but I do like the slow-pace of the story so far. None of the characters are particularly unlikable and I their interactions are rewarding as a whole. All in all, a great series about watching time pass in a strange shoujo manga setting.

Btw, the translation fairly good, I think. At the very least, the grammar is readable, which can be an issue in a lot of translations... more>> I've read. I appreciate the TL notes and images sprinkled throughout the chapters. <<less

It's pretty good and fun if you like stories that don't mind alot of details too much.

The start was pretty good but as it progress you start to wonder if our MC was really 20 years old because of the way she acts. I kept waiting for something interesting to happen but it never happened- So if you're reading this just don't expect too much and just enjoy it.

I love this novel and was not bored for one second reading it thus far. And I’ve re-read this multiple times. When I look back on it while writing up this review... I realize that in terms of plot there’s not much of it. It’s just a daily life story. Which would make one wonder, what exactly was enjoyable about this light novel?
I must say it is typical. There’s nothing really new to offer here. You could definitely see this being a one of those popular shoujo school life mangas. Never the less, what shines about the novel is the fact that it follows the daily life of the heroine, Reika Kisshouin. One might think that would be boring, but it isn’t. With a heroine that is both lovable and eccentric, the novel follows her lead making a comedic and entertaining read.

One of the selling things about his novel is Reika who stands out as her own individual. Personally I found her very relatable and realistic. It’s easy to adore and feel protective over her as we’re lead from her 6 year old self and throughout her life as a child to teen. Besides the heroine, the other ‘main’ characters and even the side characters are all lovable and funny in their own ways and sure to wheedle in your heart. Very few might not, depending on personal preferences. Despite the large cast of characters, each are given room for their individuality to shine. There could be room for more development for some characters, but considering the type of novel that it is, you don’t wouldn’t find yourself really being concerned about it. Also, it’s still ongoing so that development might be somewhere in the future.

Another selling point of this novel is that it’s heart-warming. We see friendships and family bonding made during Reika’s school life. In terms of romance there is none yet, just given very few hints here and there of who the love interest might be. If you’re looking for something funny and light hearted to read, I recommend this. Be warned though- it’s quite addicting and once you catch up you’ll crave for more.

(I'd like to add in a shout out to the translator for the translation quality. It's amazing. There's also a kind consideration given from the translator for putting in videos/pitures of references the auidence might not catch (maybe not so kind if you're seeing delicious pics of foods at 12am while reading though).)

The translations finally reached the preview versions of the high school arc where the real challenge begins. The first 72 chapters immediately reverse the MC from high spec villainness to closet plebian. Come for the otome reincarnation premise, stay for the wacky brand of hilarity as Reika cutely struggles to survive her prophesied downfall.

The translation quality is very high. It's easy to read and grammatically faultless. Every so often I go back to re-read from the start. And I read A LOT of web novels plus real books. It's that... more>> good. <<less

Off the bat, I want to say that I do think this was worth reading (though it becomes really hard to recommend it in earnest given that it seems to be on indefinite hiatus).

That being said, I don't think it's particularly good or anything.

Spoiler

It's your typical "reincarnated as the villainess" story, which means that the "villainess" aspect of the story is not addressed properly at all. By that I mean that it becomes incredibly clear early on that Reika is not in any real danger of suffering the same fate as her fictional counterpart (this is something she should also have caught onto, but you know, whatever).

But that's fine because the story really isn't about that. This story is about Reika bumbling her way through her school days while maintaining her outward noble bearing. And when I say it's about Reika, I mean it. The story lives and dies on her character. And that's fine, Reika has a great internal monologue, her interactions with other characters are usually entertaining, and those moments where she becomes a badass are probably the best parts of the whole story.

The problems start to arise when we really dig into the plot. After a while, it becomes evident that a lot of plot points are recycled, and I mean A LOT. You better love hearing about how Reika has to lose weight, or how her friends have misunderstood her intentions with the two male leads, or how her brother doesn't want her interacting with his friend, because all of these plot points are repeated multiple times with little variation. It gets worse when she starts getting in cahoots with the main male lead and the author feels the need to detail each of the nearly identical outings to different "commoner" establishments.

And this all honestly wouldn't be so bad if not for the characters. Outside of a handful of standouts (and of course, Reika herself), very few of them grow in any significant way or contribute anything meaningful to the story. The most egregious case is Reika's friend group (who by the way have supposedly known each other since kindergarten i.e. The beginning of the story). We only know the name of a few, and of those few, basically none of them have any evident personality or drive. Her two closest followers (her BEST FRIENDS supposedly) have like one chapter dedicated to them which tells us basically nothing, and after that they're basically white noise for the rest of the series. Like damn, if even one of those repeated plot points were used to flesh out even one of these friends, it would have made the constant mention of her "controlling the girls of the school" worth something.

If I had to compare it to something I actually like a lot, I would probably compare it to the manga School Rumble. It's a series that also covers the school life of one wacky character, but in that series you get to know like the whole class. Plot points are repeated in a similar way, but it never gets tiring because the characters involved are different and interact in new ways, and it makes you care about what's happening because you care about the characters. So when the sports festival gets done for the tenth time, you might actually have something to look forward to.

[collapse]

In short, it's a mediocre novel with a repetitive plot that's hard carried by its main protagonist. It will never have the satisfying conclusion you might expect from such a drawn out story, but as long as you're okay with that, it's still a pretty good time. <<less

299 chapters and you say there is no romance for MC?? You say there is no love interest for the one and only main character here!? Is this really... shoujo? Also, she was supposed to be an adult in her previous life right? Why is she going to CRAM SCHOOL in primary school?? The common sense in this story is way too faulty that it bothers me.
It's written like a journal entry. Because of that, it's deemed to be repetitive. The story's promise doesn't help either. It's straight-out boring.
I'm glad that I read some spoilers about it and I'm dropping it on ch15. Thank you, reviewers!

Was a pretty interesting read. I dropped as it started to get a little repetitive. The biggest problem of this novel is the lack of plot emphasis / pace, as it is more of a slice of life type for most of it. The second problem I have is the plot holes with the MC. She reincarnated, yet she seems to have poor grades if she doesn't give it her all to study, even for primary (elementary) school... Her reincarnation setting can get annoying as it serves no other purpose... more>> than her knowing she was a villainous, and who the main character's were. The author seems to counteract her supposed to be overpoweredness by making the MC lazy and s*upid... Up to the point I read, the story has been mostly a slice of life story with romantic plot for side characters. It was interesting, but I decided to drop knowing that the story is on hiatus for a long while now, and didn't feel hopeful of the direction the writing seemed to go. <<less

This is one of the first villainess related genre that I've ever read and I didn't expect to like it so much! I love this novel and had a good laugh on almost every chapter. I hope this novel will continue until Reika finds her true love.. Lol

I really don't understand how so many people rated this 5 stars... the author keeps skipping over pretty important small details like her grades, she goes to cram school but if a high schooler got reincarnated and put into kindergarden they would easily be able to do the basics and would probably be thought of as a genius since they already know the material... The main character's in these storys are also really s*upid... all you have to do is not bully the heroine and you will be fine but... more>> instead she starts avoiding the male lead to the point where he will probably be interested in her... The world building is also pretty bad, at first I couldn't even tell if this was fantasy world or not since they kept talking about the "emperor" which is really just some famous buisness group... overall this isn't that great of a book and it could use a lot of work, no idea how it got so many 5 star reviews. <<less

There is NO ROMANCE in the story but it is so realistic that I can't help but read it. Just think of this as the modern rich kid school and the MC is the daughter of a renowned family. Her friends already have boyfriends but the MC herself doesn't have any love interest only failed crushes. This is similar to boys over flowers but she isn't liked by the two popular boys at school. Reika-sama is so relatable with her insecurities, and funny shenanigans. She isn't that smart, nor too... more>> cunning, the boys think that she's out-of-reach while the girls think of her as a leader, outside she's elegant while inside she's just a cute and careless oujo-sama.

The story is discontinued for an unknown reason but the remaining chapter is entertaining to read. <<less

It's a Bland story. It's not bad but it's not good either. This feels like reading a diary of a teenage girl. Its like diary of a wimpy kid but blander.

I've got a major problem with the random Japanese words and phrases mixed in that makes it feel so cheap.

I love Kisshouin Reika. for almost 3 years

This is the most enjoyable light novel, when I first read Kenkyo, Kenjitsu o Motto ni Ikite Orimasu it kinda bore me since the journal type novel (their still lots of funny scenes so I continue) but as the story getting to the main events, it's pretty interesting. Kisshouin Reika will 1000% linger in your life. Super recommend

Update as of ch. 158: the story is still brilliant but warning for new readers: ... more>>
Spoiler

do not come into this story with any expectation of love lines. Just don't. I thought I prepared myself with 0 expectations but ugh... the author just loves to crush any archtypal otome flags doesn't she

[collapse]

The way the story is written is incredible. So full of wit and I love how the author draws parallels between the characters and classical pieces, especially Kaburagi's theme song (LOL) Nts: the theme songs are on ch. 48.

It's such a shame really that this story is on indefinite hiatus and we'll probably never see the end of it, but I'd still recommend people to read it because of how enjoyable it is to read. It's lighthearted and truly a slice-of-life but the richness of the story and multi-dimensional characters keeps you addicted. Even the 'extra' characters gets their own limelight in a way that doesn't distract your attention and makes you want to skip.

Honestly, it's so well-written that it's the perfect example of what a slice-of-life should be. I honestly can't get over how perfectly executed this story was. Such a shame sigh.... but you should still definitely read it!!!

So far, all my preconceptions have been mercilessly shut down by the author and I love it. I started reading this story with the mindset that our main female character would be a bit of a Mary Sue but she is not like that at all. Besides her immense wealth, she is totally relateable (especially how she easily gains weight - I TOTALLY FEEL YA GIRL T_T). Every character, even if they don't appear much, you feel just as much of their presence as the main characters. Wow, I have so much respect for this author. She/he was born to write. I hope she/he still writes....

Just as brilliantly as how the story was written, the translations are top-notch. I really appreciate the translator introducing bits of Japanese culture and history, as well as including photos and videos to improve the readability of this story. My lazy ass would not have bothered to google most of them, but my mundane world has now been blessed knowing about the existence of Mussorgsky's Night on Bald Mountain. I long await for the day where I meet a person similar to Kaburagi and hopefully we'll be close enough so I can change my ringtone to this when they call heh...

Everything about this novel is a 10/10 - story, characters, setting, writing, translations, etc. etc. So do give it a read! Even if it's not completed. Rather have it bless your life than miss out on happy things, right? <<less

I liked this story a lot, it's the typical school story of rich kids, it doesn't focus on romance but how the characters create bonds, it's a pity that the author left the story there, you'll never know if Reika gets a boyfriend. : (

im just going to be straightforward here. The MC is WAYYY too s*upid, it’s really too much. I thought since she’s an adult mentally, she would be more cool, calm, and collected. It turned out to be the complete opposite of my expectations though. She’s really acting like an oblivious s*upid child considering she’s 20 something years old. I decided to give it a shot because of the positive reviews and good-looking summary but I feel like I really just wasted my time. I’m sorry if this is harsh but... more>> this is my honest opinion. <<less

I really like the translators, this novel has a lot of reference to japanese or high class references so they give you a little explination of them at the beginning of the chapter so you can understand it later or they insert images and a description after something is mentioned.
Now the novel, it's pretty good I must say. It's all in a first person perspective but every X chapters you get a POV from other character, the genre is mostly slice of life and comedy and the protagonist's funny (for my taste) and entertaining.

The main plot (her family's doom) is not something serious, they talk a lot about food (sweets mostly) and some characters tends to disappear from the novel, not that it affects the story but I missed some of them.

If you go to the novel sumary from the translators page, you can see how time goes by the chapters, the novel is divided by primary school/middle school/high school (first/second/third yr). I think it will end after her third yr is complete, .
What mostly catch my atention is the progression of the years, how people's POV see the MC, and the world she's in, it's a modern japan

Spoiler

she meets someone who looks like her cousin of her previous life in that world but never talk to him, maybe the plot would be different if the story focus more in that kind of things

[collapse]

A good read for me.
