A fluffy, cute read that also contains realistic details of life.

A rare trope to have a proactive FL who is also super caring and encourage the ML the entire way through.

Props to the second ML as well because he doesn't get painted black by the author and responds in the way you'd expect him to, after crushing on the FL for 9 years. He also becomes sorta allies with the ML towards the end of the book.

All in all, an absolute delight to read. ^^

so far, this is my favorite chestnut novel. I really love this one. The FL is so refreshing, she just do what she wants to and is very clear on what she likes and dislikes. The ML is so sweet too. Very shy and innocent but so inlove with fl. This story doesnt have much conflict or heavy drama, its very light and fluffy.
Spoiler

i definitely disliked changkong's mom at first. After her husband died, she just lost all hope in life and never bothered about her family anymore. I really felt like she dragged her kids down with her just because she was miserable. I appreciated changkong even more for supporting his whole family all by himself. Xu lian was really cool at the time she scolded changkong's mom. She voiced out all my frustrations about their family situation and it really help the mother wake up and try to get back on her feet.

I fell in love with the writing style of the author during the course of the novel. There are these small, subtle actions of the character that the author incorporates into the novel from the very beginning that reveal deeper facets of their personality. It is beautiful to read. ChangKang is a delivery boy who is hardworking, but had to give up on his dreams due to personal circumstances. Xu Lian is an ambitious girl who is already living out their dreams. Watching them interact is a treat. This novel... more>> flows really well, and the characters feel like real people, not just caricatures. <<less

Loved the MC ❤️ she is strong, indipendent, warm-hearted as well as rational person.

There are many things I loved about this book one thing that I found different from other cn novels is that their s*xual relationship which was not forced I especially liked how the ML respected the MC and it was her who took the initiative most of the time.

This is a nice modern romance. A little bit of smexiness. I got a nose bleed coincidentally during a hot scene lel. I like the pace of this so far with the MC being very confidant and smart. She makes it very clear what she wants and that is so refreshing. Enjoyable <3

This story was something else. The role reversal is one thing, but this novel did a sort of show-don't-tell approach and had a very mature way of dealing with the MC and ML. The MC is quite bold, which I really like. There isn't any over-the-top drama in this one, and I found myself cheering for the side-characters as well.

One thing to note that might frustrate new readers (mild spoiler with nothing specific but is still considered a spoiler) :

ML's mother and how it all turned out. It was explained by the author in the later chapters. Quite unfortunate, since I liked her story arch and wanted a bigger dive into her story.

Regardless of that, it's a very touching story and has a mature undertone which is really refreshing. I would recommend it for people wanting a breath of fresh air and not a whole lot of fantastical, Earth-shattering drama. Some plot holes remain but not enough to catch you off guard, and the ending was quite satisfying. <<less

Pretty good novel, a good read if you're bored, but again my eternal complaint with many of those kinds of novels:

Spoiler

please don't put the "pregnancy" tag if the whole getting pregnant/having kids stuff only happens in the extras/epiloge and is not important for the plot or not even part of the main story (she only gets preggo in chapter 63 out of 66 in this novel)

Again this novel treats getting pregnant and having children only as the "cherry on top the relationship cake" that is mentioned at the very end of the novel in a "oh and btw they got married and had kids later on and lived happily ever after" kinda way.

I'm six chapters in and I'll edit this later.

I'm just here to complain as to why this Wei Yichen has too much exposure. I already know about his life much more than the main characters themselves. He's the second lead, but the FL don't even give a sh!t about him so why on earth does he take up most chapters? Please, I came here to know more about the cutie delivery rider.

... more>> Edit:

I already completed this. Say, this isn't the best I've read but nevertheless, it's really great! It deserve a five star.

The main couple is so cute and their relationship is healthy and mature. Changkong is so cute! He's a breath of fresh air after reading stories with overconfident perfect male lead. Changkong is confident but has insecurities. He's also quite shy. I love him. I also love Xu Lian, she's straightforward, has guts and she's not the typical FL who blushed at anything. They're so perfect. The only thing I didn't like is that Wei Yichen's constant appearances. Seriously, he wasn't even relevant to the main story. He only brought unecessary troubles. Fortunately, it wasn't that of a big deal. I honestly skipped every scene that featured Wei Yichen alone, and it did not even affect how I understand the story.

Well, I have more rants about Wei Yichen:

Spoiler

Wei Yichen has a dream that was crushed because his parents opposed it. But honestly, I can't sympathize with him despite seeing him being so dramatic about his crushed dreams. I would understand it if he was an obedient son, doing everything that his parents is telling him to do. But fvk it, he's a rebel who refuse to follow his parents. So why isn't he running after his dream instead? Idk much about his character development since, as I said, I skipped everything about him but I could care less, sorry.

The opposite of your usual domineering CEO male lead; This time, the ones domineering is the female lead. I really love how the author wrote her character. She is decisive, knows what she wants, and wholeheartedly supports the male lead's dream.

i definitely loved the FL here, wish I could even have a quarter of her assertiveness and confidence lmao. Also, the ML here is such a breath of fresh air from all the domineering, tyrannical, cold ML out there. Here, we have a male lead who have a low status than the FL and have his own insecurities which make him more relatable but still lovable. Also, I wanna give applause to the FLs parents cause they're one of most supportive parents out there.

i kinda noticed that at the latter... more>> part of the story, it kinda become bland or maybe it's just me getting sleepy from reading but overall, I enjoyed reading this one and definitely recommend it <<less

-0.2, The ML's mother was handled very roughly. It seemed like she had a story but soon gave up. It made me feel very conflicted about her changes

-0.1 The plot started to drag maybe 3 chapters before the official ending.

-0.1, I found myself wanting more character development based on how she introduced the plot in her first half

My most favorite of chestnut novels.

I liked how honest and straightforward FML was and how she just skipped through the steps of lovers right to the main dish.

The conflict majorly comes from the inner struggle of ML and the second ML situation (though I wouldn't call it second ML cause he is completely one-sided)

Triangle love? Don't worry about it cause FML didn't waver even a bit except to ML.

Misunderstand? Not this time with our FML.

Spoiler

If you find ML's mother annoyingly, then just skip it.

I love this short novel! It's too sweet, mature and light. Changkong is precious but the Xu Lian is such a treasure! I love her personality as a go getter, like what she wants, she find a way to do it and have it. Also, it is such a breeze that they find a way to tackle their issues easily and not dragged it for a long period of time. Though it was saddening with what happened to the character build up of the mother. Anyway, it is a sweet... more>> and worth the time to read. Will definitely re-read this novel again. <<less

Totally different from Chestnut's typical male leads. A breath of fresh air if I may say.

I really like the couple's dynamics, I think I'm the one falling for ChangKong, he's just refreshing and unlike the usual CN ML trope, translations are awesome too. Had to retract 1 star because I rrally dislike ML's mom and sis, the mom is in her own world and doesn't care about her children but it's partly -fine then- since it's literal illness tho heartless, the sister is the one I really dislike, she's useless, the ML does everything from the sole income of the family to the only one... more>> doing chores around the house, why can't she get a part time job to oay for her own college fees and lessen her brother's burden ffs, she doesnt even help doing chores, it's disgusting. <<less

I just realized I haven't written a review for this beauty. I have read quite a lot of Chestnut novel and they are always good for light reading and the stories are usually entertaining but quite ordinary. Slowly falling for Changkong is different from all her novels. I think I remember somebody said this one is not as popular as her other novels because the style of writing is quite different. In other words, this one is a little bit more dramatic than her other novels but imo, this is... more>> quite special. This one hits differently compared to her other novels. It's a bit more emotional and it's a slice of life. No uber popular or rich protagonist here. Just regular people dealing with life and trying to jump through hurdles. I quite like the MC here. She's a very strong character and is exactly the kind of person that Changkong needs to push his boundaries. Changkong's major hurdle is his family and money. I did talk about this issue with one of my chinese student before. Changkong is a brilliant person. He has a lot of opportunities in the profession that he chose, he has passion and the brains for it. The problem is that it doesn't pay well and his Dad died in that same job, and he has a depressed mother and a younger sister to support, so he became a delivery guy. I was told it's true that food delivery pays well in China, better than some office jobs. The MC helps him overcome his misgivings and supported him, in the end, he did succeed in doing what he can do best in the job that he likes and became quite successful. I also like how liberated the MC is when it comes to the ML. She initiates their intimate interactions and it was embarassing and funny when she stuffs their box of cond*m in many places to make it more convenient, only to be found out by her mom when she visited.

Anyway, I think this is the best Chestnut novel I've ever read. <<less

Ahhhh. I love this. The ML is not your typical Marty Stu character. Instead, he worked hard to achieved his dreams. FL temperament is also nice. Their relantionship compliments each other and there's no exaggerated drama but still there's a plot that keeps you wanting to read it and also makes you smile. Five star🌟

mhh took me a long time to write this shitpost but because ummm, I'm slowly taking in the glorious and one of Chestnut's most profound WN that I've read. As a side note though, I might not read the ones I've planned to read, which are "Marriage Concerto" and "I seem to be unsuitable for Marriage", reason being is that I dont want to be heavily disappointed if I set the bar on these WN on the same or higher caliber than "Slowly Falling for Changkong" which I find quite... more>> heavily unfair. Also as a side note, I felt like, despite such one-dimensional plot, this has one of the most satisfying read I've ever felt ever since I read "Just Blame me For being Blind in the Beginning", for I feel like this WN, despite being one-dimensional (I will firmly explain this in a heavily spoiler alerted tone with other works of Chestnut) had ingrained more depth than other of Chestnut's work, and lastly; I will forever and ever suckc*ck "Slowly Falling For Changkong" to be Chestnut's most well written work and will forever be.

Also I mentioned and spoiled this WN, Divorce is a Trivial Matter, Sweet Heart in Honeyed Desire,

Spoiler

One dimensionalism, for the lack (or thereof of knowledge) term, is suitable for, I feel like almost all work that is published. For example, In Chestnut's work, "Divorce is a trivial Matter" the author's will for it to end with the ex-husband and the heroine to be firmly tightened their loose (at first) relationship from the start to the end (after the love-triangle bullshitry) is the core and will thus be the finale. This is 1D for it does, despite the profound "better relationship goal" that the work had a vision for; the sheer domineering clauses that disagree for such; yet the pen will forever revert back to the ending that it want will forever and ever, sheerly shed the ever presence of depth that it could have had. Is this something that a personal bias I have? Prolly.... But I just know that, "Divorce is a Trivial Matter" as a work and with its 1D trajectory with the use of love-triangle to fuel such 1D just tinges my incel tilt to the fullest. I mean, despite me dropping "Sweet Heart in Honeyed Desire" WN, I already knew that Yu Yi and the chef will be married because, of despite of this whole bullshittry with the MC's multiple personality and the tragic background, you can just see it MILES f*ckING AWAY that they'll be together. The MC will surely... surely.... SURELY f*ckING SURELY will conquer his internal struggle because of ummm.... LOVE? EHHHH sure... This is what I hated the most in "Sweet Heart in Honeyed Desire" is this f*cking ever so slightly shift with the personality and heroine's reaction towards the different (known) personality. I had, and have still incel tilt with this.... I have always felt when I read the WN, that because of this shallowness, I felt like it doesnt matter if you skipped the middle part, and just skip to the ending... But the reason I dropped it was because, I felt ummm... gritty and unwilling to skip/or 10x read fast...

When it comes with "Slowly Falling for Changkong" WN, despite its natural 1D for it caused to be Chestnut's own charm, still had that depth that you just feel right. How the MC and heroine overcome the set-forth cliches that Chestnut has put forth is very naturally drawn closely tied down and had this depth of slow but natural as if time slowly progress.... Ok except with Changkong's mom sudden 10x timeskip then suddenly everything was f*cking alright... Like, she's just on this MASSSIVE DRUG ADDICTION and just 2 mins of rambling form GOD, and suddenly she's not addicted to drugs... like WTF Chestnut?! OHHH WELL, this is just that 1D thing that I mentioned.... It's like... well; if the authors' will wants it; then surely it will be put forth regardless of such uniquely reason. This is just one thing that I felt like, in the middle of the WN was very very unnatural but then again, it's just that crunch time, of author's massive shift towards the family dynamic and the overall arching narrative of the story that allows it to be so. I have liked the WN not because of the latter half (epilogue) being considered to be a good ending. In fact; I still it had this tinge of unnatural vibe to it.... Like, the Changkong's mom arc is just so brutally so pushed forth... Well; still.... I guess, the ending/epilogue/latter half of the WN was still enjoyable.

first half of the WN is so satisfyingly done to the point that, "fate" just so happened to kick-in, it still had that feeling of time not fast tracking the interaction of Changkong and Xu Lian... It was still tied within the bounds of the world's perceived social standing difference, and heroine and male lead's different yet converging personalities that you feel they'll intermingle to one another ever so slowly, as if you know it but this subtle and slow time in the WN is so satisfying, very f*cking satisfying to read. Their personality, flourished the first half of the WN... Changkong, as described Xu Lian with the imagery of his eyes being vastly and calm like the wide sky, was I think the perfect portrayal to start with.... Changkong needs to sacrifice the wide sky he very very wished to save his crumbling family. I mean this boi is the just the right fit for that LOW SELF-ESTEEM SUICIDAL TEEN WHO JUST MET HIS CINDERELLA NUMBA WAN FEMALE IDOL WHO SHINED THE BRIGHTEST BUT SOMEHOW WANTS HIS c*ck which is a typical... very so typical of JP WNs (bruh I still dont know why I still diss JP WNs when I've done this very very much a lot of time), but it wasnt as cringely portrayed exaggeratedly in the first half. We know he's at his lowest low, yet in the latter half, time moves on as if it's natural. Changkong will do his daily routine and will deliver Xu Lian's food delivery, and they will meet.... The numerous times, they met I just f*cking fangirl like I was so f*cking high on drugs... Like I've just seen my HANDSOME MALE IDOL GOD and I'm just cumming instantaneously without stopping. That's how I was f*cking ecstatic in the first half of the WN. I'm a reader... I KNOW f*ckING WELL HOW 1D this is yet I still fangirl like crazy when they first met.... Moving on, when Changkong realized he loved Xu Lian, I just know TIME will move for him and it will also will be the same for Xu Lian. Aside tho, I will weight this heavily biased. I feel like Changkong's dream which was to design planes and whatnot was portrayed heavily so exaggeratedly cringeworthy yet at the same time, it was satisfyingly mildly and bittersweetly conveyed to me in the WN... I loved how, in his dark eyes, the vast sky he longs for so damn long is very much unobtainable to him, it was so subtle, and detailed described as time had moved forth yet, it might have been Xu Lian who fueled that, yet at the same time; Changkong's love towards his dream is so pure, not because he sacrificed it to save his family. I feel like, it's because Changkong still long for that dream and cling towards it that there's still life in his dark eyes that you can see the vast sky yet, there's no life to it.

The way that, Xu Lian first noticed Changkong was subtle, and it's just like "oh... the delivery guy is so hot yet his demeanor is somewhat mysterious" in a very short way to put it... I think, at that time it was the ummm the girl that was working in Xu Lian's store who perfectly said it and I feel like; this is pretty much how Xu Lian noticed his existence... Oh and dear f*cking lord I love how she's very straightforward and will follow her self-indulging craving for Changkong's body if she so does, and I felt like this personality, despite them dating; wasnt in a little bit diminished, somehow is very... very pleasant to me because, there's, or at least a very illogical proposition if the logic follows like this:

If the heroine at first is very provocative,

Then she fell in love

Thus she her provocative personality will fade

This somehow doesnt sit well with because... like, no matter what the degree of 2nd clause are, one ought not to gravitate from being provocative to being purely submissive in just one fell swoop of the author's will for her to fell in love. I mean, like f*cking hell... AT LEAST RETAIN it to some degree. It's like one of my incel tilt surges when this happen and if I remember correctly, this occurred in, "Finding Glowing Beauty in Books" except that heroine was being so f*cking indecive to the point that the ending of the WN wasnt even satisfying... HECK.... They just f*cking rushed marriage and it's done.... Like... ok? I mean, the whole from ch.01-35/40 (I think) they've spent their whole f*cking lives THROWING shits at each other with heroine clearly just doesnt give a crap about him, then Chestnut just noticed "ohhh shite lads, we're in ch.40 and they're still not dating and I plan to end it at ch.50 (or something) so I guess we'll just.... 10x speedrun it?"

And, I will very admit that Xu Lian taking the first step, or at least the step needed to take to escalate to such degree of intimacy, to being stranger to a lover, with their first s*x scene was.... mhhhhh very. How do I say this... It might have laced with lust but I still think, that; love and lust are the same face of the coin, just on the different side.... Should I thank Chestnut because he used that fight scene to further escalate Xu Lian's world to slowly open up to Changkong? OF FUCING COURSE! I mean... It's not wrong to desire something blindly, their s*x scene might have been laced with lust, blind love, Xu Lian wanting to know Changkong from the POV of of his body, from the standpoint of her lust for his body, or to know him more better; or the just simply desire him... Regardless, I still feel that, to chase what you desire for, is very very pure. Xu Lian at that time still doesnt comprehend and doesnt know Changkong, she might have lusted for him because of his chivalrous action; she might have... or at least, purely just wanted him. But I still think, that; Xu Lian taking the first step to take to solidified their relationship is very much so akin to how Changkong sacrificed his dream to save his crumbling family. Her decision with Chestnut's romanticized illogical maneuvering, allows for such pure and one of a kind love. You will very much say and label her naive due to her "forced" action, but at the same time; this bold and unfiltered decision, brought such a spectacle of a story; of course you might say "well f*ck-off, this will never end well (happily) " but because of this, unfiltered or unrecognizable (at that time) lust portrayed by Xu Lian, that brought such a spectacle of a story, it bloomed and blossomed to one such one of a kind story when Xu Lian ever so slowly attempt to remove the barrier that stops her from caring too much about the outside and with Changkong withering then so forth brought back to life dream with the roller-coaster ride of his emotion in-play, that brought such a portrayal of a love so illogically put-together yet at the same time, very moving forth.

Towards the end, Changkong becomes this depress boi to CHADKONG simply because of ego being fulfilled. I mean, you'll of course have this sense of pride, beauty and self-worth when you've gained something you truly wanted and you worked hard for it.
