I love this novel, good story, good translations thank to the author and the translators exiled rebels scans. I don't know why it has many bad reviews when this story is good, its light and funny not heavy and dark kind of story.

5/5 rate. Wish there were other novel with 500+ chapters that was satisfying like this one.

This is one of the best novels I've ever read. I binge read this within five days, I could not put it down. I will most definitely reread in the future. Definitely recommend to those who like revenge, humor, romance, action, and fluff!

The first hundred chapters might be boring for some, but it gets exiting and fun as you get deeper into this novel. My favorite part in this novel is from 480 up until the end. You can see how they begin to act more intimately to each other

Spoiler

since they got separated from each other from a certain period of time

[collapse]

And the characters are quite something. You'll see side couple pairings. Their shipping is so cute. You'll wish they had more air time

Spoiler

Just like Yin Ge and Feng ChiYun, this ship needs more exposure. But he author say nah.

[collapse]

As for his contract beasts, you'll want to smack them. What a spoiled brats.

Okay back to Momo and Ling Xiao's relationship. I noticed that many people complains about their relationship. And I just don't understand if they're reading the same novel as I do. Like... if you observe the author's writing style, when it comes to their feelings about each other you'll see that they don't say "I love you" here and there. You'll see it in their actions. And to tell you frankly, LingXiao isn't HUMAN. And this isn't spoiler bish. You can see the tags right up there. Remember... this isn't 'slice of life' kind of novel. Don't try to dissect this novel just to find your views in here. Please place a boundary between fiction and real life.

Okay back to Ling Xiao. He said in the following chapter that

Momo is the first person he liked ever since he was born.

[collapse]

You can't expect a bear that hybernated for thousands of years to be sweet and a perfect partner. Don't expect so much from non-human creatures, darling. If you want a lovey-dovey gong then this isn't for you. Ling Xiao is slight tsundere. He only know how to tease and make things hot. Speaking of that, papapa is not that many. And it may be the water meter or something, the first ones are okay.

Oh... and Momo is sooooo lucky and blessed. He advances quickly.

I had many things to say but this end here. Please have some time to read this. <<less

The couple dynamic sucks. I don't mind the jesus-kun & convenient plotlines, I like reading the MC's progression, but I really can't stand the two protagonists, they are so bland & shallow!

The MC is a clueless innocent mage, and the ML is forceful powerful thing that falls for MC so suddenly just because the MC is SOOO cute when he's clueless & full of expressions. I was fine with the shallow relationship until chapter 68!
Spoiler

When they had their first s*xual encounter & basically ML forced MC to give him a handjob.

[collapse]

I was completely =_=??? This was all so shallow. MC is so s*upid and ML is so aggressive. It was at this point, I knew what the future chapters would be like - ML keeps interacting with MC and forcing him to do stuff with him. IDK how long into the chapter would MC/ML finally have a hint of being interesting. Honestly, even the conventional genius getting stronger from rock bottom story couldn't save the couple for me. Better pull out before getting too invested. I'm only 10% through, imagine having to read the same dynamic for 600 chapters, yikes.

Giving props to Exiled translations, they are really great!

I was browsing nu and completely forgot that I never reviewed this.

It is one of the very first danmei books I've read, so I forgive myself for wasting so much time reading 700+ chapters of this. When something is new, it tends to be exciting.

Honestly, if you read up to let's say 300th chapter and you jump again to 500th I don't think you will miss much of the story. After the late 300s the story just repeated itself over and over with the same plot in a different backround.... more>> The side characters are bland and the protagonists are uninteresting. The romance ain't even that good in my opinion
Spoiler

They have first time s*x around chapter 200 and it was dub con. The romance itself, absolutely lacking.

[collapse]
The start is decent, but at some point I think the author gave up trying to think about what to do next in their story.

The translation is good. Exiled rebels did a good job and so did the group translating the first bunch of chapters.

I don't have much to say, really. If you are coming here after having read MDZS, 2HA, TGCF, SPL etc you are wasting your time. If you are someone slowly getting into BL after having read many chinese romance novels (so you are familiar with a forceful male lead), I would perhaps suggest this if it was 1/7th of the size.

This is a 2/5 star rating mostly due to nostalgia. <<less

Not gonna lie, I initially found the length of this one quite daunting (731 chapters?? Can my attention span even handle that??), but!! I finished it within 3 weeks, and I had enjoyed every bit of it!

One thing I love in the novel, is the world-building. The author had explained the world of cultivation really clearly, such that, if this were your first wuxia novel, you would not get confused nor lost. Also, I love how everything kinda ties out, and it has such a satisfying ending with little to... more>> none loose ends (even though they're so overpowered at the end, it still didn't come off as forced).

Spoiler

Though, I might have missed the part where You Xiaomo gave the pill to the Dao Xin Academy Principal?

[collapse]

I can understand why a lot of people love this, since it really isn't just focused on how the two protagonists' romance, but on their journey to become, well, legendary! It's such a fun, and a bit slow read, but a really gratifying one!

Though, I agree with the other reviews that the side characters (excluding his contracted beasts ofc) tend to be forgettable, even interchangeable. The cannon fodder are true cannon fodders, with flat characterizations and whose main purpose is to serve as foils to the two protagonists. I would've liked a better characterized antagonist, but I guess the face slapping is good enough for me! <<less

I made an account just for this review. Although I finished this a long time ago, it is to be honest, one of the best yaoi transmigration novels I’ve ever read.

It’s even more important to me considering how I’ve continued on to read and finish the whole novel. I remember excitedly waiting and reading a chapter on the bus on my way home everyday. I felt a connection with the characters because of how long I’ve been reading it.

When the last chapter was released, I know LX and YXM got... more>> a HE but I can’t help but cry. Seeing the translator’s note and their final goodbye made me really sad, because I know that they’re only fictional characters. It’s one of the most memorable novels I’ve ever read.

Thank you translators for everything! I’m going to tear up if I continue writing this review. <<less

I don't remember anymore but I'm pretty sure I was well into the novel when I just COULD NOT take the ML calling the MC (a genius pill cultivator) s*upid.... every single time they discuss something. Like ok we get it, you're actually a super old goat *cough* I mean big boss in the mythological beast world but the personality is so snobby and toxic male.

I even tried to ignore it! But then I started feeling s*upid from being called s*upid so many times (MC's POV). Personally I enjoyed the... more>> details in the pill making (can't remember much because this is more than a year later after dropping it, it's like 6am and I've run over to write a review because I'm still annoyed to death over the relationship dynamics here. Basically every bad review about how the ML is just a bad bag of lust who just wants an exclusive * buddy.... Preferably one he can Lord over. The only upside to this whole fiasco is his hilarious naming style of other beasts (but they all are influenced by ML to treat MC as s*upid & someone to look down on)

Final verdict: Dropped! 1 star for sympathy for MC and 1 star for his naming prowess <<less

I actually don't understand how there's so many reviews that talk about how this novel is terrible, because I don't think so?

First of all, I absolutely love how the author created this world, like everything is described with so much detail it's amazing. And the character development is honestly one of the main reasons why this novel is one of my favourite novels I have read (and I have read quite a lot). The Protagonist, you xiaomo - yes I agree he is weak at the beginning, but thoughout... more>> the entire 700+ chapters, you see him steadily grow more powerful as he faces more challenges. The way the author wrote about both you xiaomo and ML, ling xiao's growth was really just so damn good.

And a lot of people here don't like how the main two's relationship is like. I have to agree, ling xiao is possessive and forceful at the beginning but as the novel goes on, you can see how deeply he cares for xiaomo.

I don't really like reading about romances where all they do is say really sappy things to each other. This novel clearly shows their love for each other through their actions. They don't need to announce that they love each other, everything they do just shows their love. They're both literally tsunderes, like on the surface they bicker so much but underneath they have this understanding and this bond that I can't help but admire.

The bl content is there, like xiaomo and ling xiao's interactions always has this ambiguity at the beginning, until they get to the more intimate parts.....
Spoiler
[collapse]

And the qiu team. I love them all. Watching the qiu team grow from a few members into like a team of 11 is so heartwarming. All of the Protagonist's beast companions all act so spoilt and hilarious I just love it.

The plot of this novel is also amazing, like there's so much going on and everything's written so well. At the beginning, I did find that it was a bit slow paced, but the more you read the more interesting it gets. More stuff happens and I just want to keep talking about how good this is, because there's so much I could say, but I probably should stop here lmao

Thanks to anyone who read this far :3 <<less

Ok first let me tell you something, for those who comes here for bl just be patient there will be bl smut scenes later on. While people that likes xianxua/wuxia that hates bl don't get fooled from the review that said this isn't a bl novel (those usually are from people that read much more straightforward bl so this is tame by comparison) because from chapter 100 something onwards there Will be smut and the relationship between ML and MC are really prevalent and upfront.

Now that's out of the way... more>> let's start the review. Personally I would rate this 4, 4.3 or 4.5 star but I read this when it hasn't finished translated so man it was very nostalgic and also for the fact I really love a good wuxia.

The first thing that makes me like this novel more than other bl xianxua/wuxia novel or really other most bl bl genre not just novel is the fact that it's just a xianxua novel with bl rather than the xianxua/wuxia aspect is just a plot to drive the bl. Which you think that's a given by the fact that there's a xianxua/wuxia/xuanhuan tag in the novel but usually it barely touch the system of the world and more focused on the relationship, which sometimes can be good but for me is the equivalent for a xianxua romance novel that only have xianxua as just a premise rather than anything else. And for me who admitedly really likes xianxua and shounen genre is such a breath of fresh air for the bl genre who is more romance and relationship driven. Oh and also because of the fact that this is wuxia novel that this also impact the dynamic that different than other bl novel because of the fact that the MC have to be able to grow in an independent rate because this is a wuxia. While this is not completely because this is a wuxia but the like to tease but attentive ML also compliment well in this setting. But if you personally don't like wuxia or shounen type thing this isn't for you.

Now the reason why for me at least that this kinda tops most of the wuxia novel I've read which albeitly not much because of how long they're is mainly the dynamic and the relationship. Not because they're bl but because they literally top many main pairing in most of wuxia novel including panlong (note this is my opinion and don't hate me please). The reasons I think this has better main pairing is due to the part that this is in a bl genre which in turn puts it in a romance novel genre. To elaborate on that, is the fact bl or romance novel usually have a system of main character and main lead actually interacting with each other to progress the plot. Do you know how many times I read a xianxua/wuxia/xuanhuan novel and seeing the MC liking the girl but barely have any interaction. And also main lead while not necessarily a main character can be considered as a secondary one with how much they are on screen and move the plot. And that's what most other wuxia novel lack in terms of main pairing.

This novel have such a good blend between bl romance, comedy and wuxia and getting the action, world building and cultivation while also maintaining good chemistry between MC and main lead that makes the main pairing so much more fun, interesting, and dynamic. This Novel took best of both world and combine them and make this novel. <<less

For a really long novel, this book was extremely good. It wasn't boring and it didn't give the feeling of dragging out the plot which usually happens with many long novels.

Many opinions differ from what I've read in the previous comments but personally I do like the main characters, the ML isn't irritating albeit I'm kind of indifferent to his personality. The MC was good (I personally love how he isn't a goody two shoes, although he is one in their world when compared lol) and his character development was... more>> well planned.

All in all it's very a worthy read. <<less

If you're looking for a read/novel to relax rather than be put up in an emotional rollercoaster, this novel is probably what you want to read. Looking back since I started reading this, my day wasn't complete without reading at least one chapter. I really loved the fluffy romance the two main characters would show everytime, wherever they go. My colleagues would always tease me during breaktimes as to why I'd suddenly smile or laugh like an idiot - can't help it tho as there are tons of funny scenes... more>> in the book. As you get deeper into the novel you'll see that those two main characters are wild too. They didn't disappoint me on that particular topic lmao. The plot is great, the unnecessary ups and downs are limited. Things would always be in favor of the main characters. For me, this novel was a satisfying read. <<less

This story actually hasn't been repetitive even after 400+ chapters. The MC is really dense which usually is a turn off for me but he is so cute with the ML that I don't mind it. The MC confesses that he isn't the owner of the body he's using and the ML grills him on that instead of just accepting it, which I like. So far the story's really good!

It's a great novel, I enjoyed a lot the plot and characters. That being said there is a lot of problematic situations, most of them are the usual sexism and etc. The start is very slow. But the novel has a lot of elements that keep you interested (at least me) like the potions/magic/power stuff, I also like the how the writer described the world, fights and the magic stuff.

The translation is GREAT, english is my second language, but I could understand just fine. Definitely worth the time reading, sometimes... more>> I even wish I could forget about this so I can read again. <<less

It was boring at parts and really interesting at others; I didn't really care all that much about the characters though because well... they are plane. However, what made me stick with the novel was precisely the MC and his ML. I'll explain: the MC starts pretty soft. He is a noob from our world, coddled but also without a warm family or friends. He wants to learn and is very diligent studying alchemy-soul cultivation but he doesn't have the minor idea of how this world works. Enter ML who... more>> has a very good idea of the immense potential of MC and has decided to make him his, to help with his secret plans. He of course exposes MC to all the ugly faces of the world, for much that MC doesn't want to. MC is also cunning and decides to follow powerful ML if nothing else can be done. Then the story truly starts. And what I found fascinating was how these two changed bit by bit through exposure to each other. Like MC is pretty damn helpless at the start, and throughout the story, he starts mimicking ML and adapting to everything that keeps happening to the point that he is like that violent converse who is more militant than the one born in his religion. It was astounding, what fear makes one do. ML of course, encourages this and is pretty happy of letting MC do his thing; they are soul-bonded and so is impossible to escape one another, even in death- one dies and the other will follow. That MC has decided bit by bit be more ruthless and powerful only benefits ML who after everything starts truly caring about the other. But really, is like mutual Stockholm Syndrome xD This and the fact that everybody powerful in the world of this novel is.. well, dark gray in morality scale at best made me see this novel as the descent of the MC. He becomes like the very person he was repelled by in the first arc, without caring very much for it, absorbing the values and the pride of his new world. Basically, if you see the novel through my lenses MC and ML become the great overlords (this is true anyways) and ultimate Villains of their world.

This is what made love the ending although it was pretty lackluster. I doubt the author intended my take on the novel, but is one that formed organically as I persisted reading through the hundreds of chapters. The fact that the characters themselves aren't very developed even helps this view; we are seeing people devoid of morals, of essence. They just have power. <<less

I like the story, I like the plot, but the characters.. They're a bit.. Too much, especially ML and MC. I kind of hate how harsh ML treats MC and how MC lets himself be abused by ML. It just came to a point where I can't tolerate it anymore and needed to vent it out. I just can't understand why MLs abusing MCs is always being romanticized at docile MCs are always the "trend" in BLs. That's the only 'stain' I found in this novel. Wow, this novel is a behemoth! With over 700 chapters, it at times was repetitive (I gave it 5 stars, but just want to be honest). It gave me a feeling of playing a video game, leveling up with the characters of the novel, battling bosses, etc. It's nice fantasy and takes you deep into another world. You root for the MC and ML. If you can handle a long read, and enjoy this genre, I recommend!

This is one of my all time favourite danmei novels. Yes, yes I know it's another transmigration novel but the plot, characters and setting are exceptionally well executed. The romance between the MC and ML had a rocky start but as their journey continued it naturally blossomed. Thank you writer, translator and editors for your hard work. I live with no... more>> regrets!~ <<less
