Before I started this book, I read some complaints about how the MC treated her fifth sister, Jiang Mingyao. However, after reading, I think the MC was more than justified. In the end, Mingyao sometimes felt pity for the MC but she was also very biased. When you consider everything, everyone is biased in one or another. Although the MC chose not to be close to her, she never did anything to harm Mingyao. In fact, she helped her on several occasions. In my opinion, this arguement about Mingyao... more>> is incomprehensible.

Second, I loved the main CP. They were so sweet and so good together. Most importantly, their relationship had no drama. They trusted each other and didn't hide things which was a refreshing change.

Third, I loved the plot. Although the plot was driven by the jealousy of one woman, it was entertaining and interesting to read. The scheming was also good and makes you very scared of the 'backyard'.

My only complaint is the Jiang family. I felt the plot was too easy on the Jiang family, especially the uncle.

Anyway, the story is worth reading and rereading. <<less

I've read this novel several years ago, but didn't remember anything about it. I read it again this week. This is an okay novel. Not the best, but average I guess.

It reminded me a bit of I Became The Stepmother of My Ex-husband at certain points.

Yan Shuqing is the antagonist of this novel and resembles the MC of a lot of revenge novels except in character. In character she is very vicious. YS is reborn. In her first life she married King Jin (the brother of the emperor) as a... more>> concubine. She helped him become emperor after the previous emperor died but was poisoned by one of the other concubines, had a miscarriage and couldn't get children after of that. She was sent to the cold palace and had a miserable life. She was jealous of Jiang Ningbao (MC) who had a happy marriage with Xie Jinglian and a faithful husband.

After rebirth she vowed to get revenge on everyone who harmed her in her previous life. At the start of the novel she has been reborn for about 2 years. She has been in contact with JN's fiancee for 2 years and intends to marry him in this life since he seems to be a good husband and she wants her husband to have only one woman. She has also been building up a force of her own and has approached a lot of people who will become powerful later on by pretending to help them.

She also got her hands on a wine recipe which JN got in her previous life and has been making huge amounts of money by selling wine made with this recipe with King Qin (one of the emperor's brothers and rival of her husband from her previous life). However her character is very vengeful. She tries to harm everyone she dislikes and gets rid of everyone who is in her way. She dislikes Jiang Ningruo from the start. Sadly for her JN disrupts a lot of her plans from the moment they meet.

At the start of the novel Jiang Ningbao wakes up after a dream. She dreams she is living in a novel and finds out what happened in the novel. JN lived in an apocalyptic world previously and was reincarnated in this world. She has been living in the novel world for 16 years now. She has known about her previous life from birth (didn't drink Lady Meng's soup). She has been pretending to be a weak woman all these years. She also looks very weak and fragile. Her parents didn't want her to show her strong side. In the apocalyptic world she was quite weak and her only strength / gift was making medicinal wine. In this life she can be considered quite strong for a woman, but she never really fights with anyone except when she practices with her husband. She opened a shop selling wine and tea when she was young and has been making a lot of money with this shop. Since she was 11 she has donated half of her profit to help soldiers and their families anonymously. Her parents have been missing for 3 years. After that she and her brother have been treated quite poorly by her father's relatives. Her father made a lot of money and her family (grandmother and uncle) took all his properties after he went missing. MC only managed to keep her mother's dowry thanks to her mother's family who live far away.

The antagonist of this novel is the MC of the original novel.

In the first chapter JN's fiancee sends a servant to tell her family he wants to break off their engagement. He saved YS when she fell (deliberately) in the water at a party and wants to marry her. JN replies she wants to marry his adoptive father Xie Xun as compensation.

Xie Xun (according to translation, description calls him Xie Heng) has been invaded by 'evil spirits' since birth and people can't stay near him very long because of that. They get sick when they are near him. XX is known as the God of War of their country and a nephew of the emperor. He has adopted XJ assuming he will never have a wife and children since women can't stay near him. Even his mother has to stay away from him.

Because of that he is very innocent with women and doesn't know much about getting along with JN. His mother thinks of him as a block of wood after his first contact with JN. JN decides to be pro-active at the start because of that.

Spoiler

JN writes XX a letter saying something like her heart beats faster when thinking about him. The same thing happens to him when he thinks of her so he calls a doctor to check them out, thinking they have heart problems. :-).

[collapse]

JN admired a very strong fighter in her previous life who committed su*cide after killing the zombie emperor (he was bitten and didn't want to become a zombie). The stories about XX reminded her of this fighter. That's why she proposes to marry him. When they meet JN shows she has no problem being near XX, so they agree to get married. They get along very well from the start and there are no problems or misunderstandings between them in the novel.

All of this is explained at the start of the novel and in the description, so it's not a spoiler.

I read in one of the reviews that reader questioned why MC didn't stop her parents from disappearing, but MC only found out about living in a novel when her parents had been gone for 3 years when she was 16. And the novel also didn't mention why they disappeared. JN finds out about that later on.

Another reviewer mentioned she disliked how JN dealt with her cousin Mingyao who is a pretty nice person. However I agree with Gabi094 on this. JN never acted against her cousin, she just distanced herself from her because of what the cousin's parents did. Mingyao also showed several times she would side with her parents against JN even knowing what her parents did. Yet another reviewer mentioned they didn't understand why JN and her parents forgave JN's grandmother and had her uncle's title and position reinstated. I do understand that. I oftentimes think Chinese novels take filial piety way too far (though it probably also worked that way in reality), but in this case I can understand it.

Spoiler

JN's grandparents from father's side and his entire family were convicted (innocently) by the previous emperor. Her grandfather divorced her pregnant grandmother to let her escape the exile. The grandmother's sister (Mrs Jiang) agreed to pretend to be pregnant and raise the child she gave birth to as her own, to give the child a better future. The grandmother died while giving birth to JN's father and her father was then adopted by his uncle and aunt (Mr. And Mrs. Jiang) who pretended he was their child. He always assumed they were his real parents.

Mrs. Jiang always treated her adoptive son well. It was only when he got married that she started disliking his wife and children. Part of the reason was that MC and her brother were much better than her real grandchildren.

So she saved JN's father from exile and raised him in a good way even though he was not her real son.
[collapse]

According to the novel JN dreamed of she would fight with YS for a year to keep her fiancee, before losing and ending quite miserable. JN is not interested in her fiancee and proposes to marry his adoptive father when he wants to break off the engagement. The JN of the novel does not seem to resemble the MC, so I guess she was replaced at birth? This never becomes quite clear to me.

I kinda felt sorry for JN's ex-fiancee XJ. He is a pretty decent man. He fell in love with YS and decided to break off his engagement with JN because of that, which would result in ruining JN's reputation. But for the rest he was pretty righteous.

Spoiler

He has a very unhappy marriage with YS and divorces her pretty fast.

YS is quite pro-active during their wedding night, because of her experience in her previous life, resulting in him thinking this is not her first time and distancing himself from her. At that point I kinda felt sorry for YS.

XJ loses his position as first heir of the duke after JN gives birth to children. It was always assumed the duke would never have children.

He then starts dreaming about his happily married life with JN and regrets breaking up with her. He comes to the conclusion that YS can see the future. However JN is already happily married with children at that time. He never acts against JN. He finally marries someone who somewhat resembles JN.

[collapse]

I noticed that in most cases the servants are more seriously punished than their masters who ordered them to do criminal things. I guess it also worked / works this way in reality? A few examples:

Spoiler

-Aunt Zhang decides to poison MC so she can't have children after she visits her home after 3 days of marriage. MC notices this right away and still takes the poison (she knows the antidote, quite s*upid it seems to me, what if she has already become pregnant in these 3 days, will this then affect her pregnancy?, but whatever). She pretends to let everyone at the table eat this poisoned food and then discloses it has been poisoned. Her aunt's servant is executed and her aunt is exiled.

-MC finds out her uncle ordered bandits to kill her parents so he can get his hands on their money. He is jealous of his brother. The bandits are hunted and killed. The uncle loses his title and his official job and that's it.

So starting out, I enjoyed the novel because calm FL and logical face slapping. I wasn't impressed with the NFL because she seemed one note to me. I understand she had a terrible first life and is counter attacking, I respect and enjoy that but once she fixated on FL for literally NO other reason except "she had an amazing life in the past life! How dare she try to have a good life this time too because I want to steal her good opportunities!" Like. Are you s*upid? Whatever, she gets dealt with, it's all good.

The dirtiest part of this novel, the part that I am seriously unreconciled with, is that FL abandons Jiang Mingyao. The sins of the parents should not fall on the children, they are not culpable. ESPECIALLY because MY helped out FL MULTIPLE TIMES in the current timeline. SHE WAS THE REASON FL DIDNT HAVE TO STEP BACK FOR GRANDMA WITH THE TWO AUNTIES SITUATION. I'm so sorry for yelling but I literally cried with MY when she knew what was going to happen after that flower incident.

And FL was like, "we have no fate, I only liked you because of your previous incarnation." EXCUSE ME? in this lifetime, MY stepped back and even defended you when it was appropriate. She gave you the benefit of the doubt, AND apologized to you when itwasn't her fault.

I'm absolutely disgusted and I wanted to continue reading to see if she might change her mind and help Mingyao but it doesn't seem like it. I just. I can't. She was an otherwise fine FL, nothing to write home about but now I'm just sad and angry. I'm smad. Mingyao got dealt so dirty, y'all.

It's an overall okay story. I enjoyed the romance to an extent, but I found other things in the plot to be a little absurd. 2 stars is already the most I can give it.

MC transmigrated from a zombie apocalypse dystopia to someone else's rebirth-revenge story set in ancient China, with memories from the original host. The original host is supposed to be the villain in FL's story and is proficient in brewing magical ancient wine with OP medicinal properties. I personally find the whole zombie apocalypse and magical wine... more>> thing to be ridiculous, but that's mostly because my taste is a bit more "realistic" and mellow.

The story's FL, the main antagonist, gets painstakingly idiotic over time, and her aversion to MC is without reason, other than the fact that MC's life was better than hers in her previous lifetime. It's literally just that, so I find it to be overall baseless and unjustified. After her rebirth, she schemed to steal MC's fiance, ruining MC's reputation as a result, despite the fact that MC never harmed her. I guess the only thing somewhat worthy of FL's resentment in the current timeline is that MC ruins some of her plans in retaliation, but that's really also what FL deserves... so??????

She can be so s*upid that you either find it cute or annoying.

Spoiler

MC is clever and she initially takes the initiative to advance her relationship with the ML, but her character isn't consistent throughout the story. In the beginning, ML is a block of wood with zero romantic inclination, so she attacks him with flirty banter and sends him love letters, slowly making her way through his heart. There's also a cheat in this, as MC is literally the only woman immune to ML's cursed and ominous aura that drives all women who get close to him into nausea and, at worst, death.

But later on, MC becomes docile to ML and gets easily embarrassed when they get intimate, and ML suddenly becomes domineering. I understand that MC, as ML's first and only woman, enchants him with her antics and her beauty, so he consequently gets addicted to her "taste" and becomes a h**ny boi. But I also want her to maintain her spunk, ya know? She instead becomes docile and delicate?????? I have nothing against MCs of this type, but if you originally write a dominant and determined MC, at least make it consistent!

Mini-rant: It annoys me to no end when female MCs blush at the slightest intimate contact, and their initial reaction to ML's s*xual hints is to refuse every time. It's as if... they aren't allowed to like s*x unless they're forced into it??? Or unless it's in exchange for something??? s*x is good, and women can like s*x too!

[collapse]

The ML is an adorable block of wood, who is clueless about romance, but later on he becomes the typical domineering and OP ML common to this genre, and he just easily solves all of MC's problems without her having to lift a finger. <<less

This is a triple-layer "Transmigrator vs. Reincarnator standoff."

Original life (no cheats) :

Spoiler

Reckless Yang Shuqing fell for Prince Jin's trap and wound up his concubine. Obsessively in love with him, she expends much effort to get him the Emperor's throne, but he ultimately never elevates her and she eventually winds up rotting in the cold palace.

OG Ningbao married Heir Xie and the two were a famously in-love couple and had a lovely life together.

[collapse]

2nd life/ "Book" life (Yang Shuqing as reincarnator) :

Spoiler

Reincarnated Yang Shuqing is hell bent on revenge and basically slaughters anyone who even slightly annoyed her in her first life. She decides she wants the best, most-devoted, and yet high class husband, and Heir Xie is the one she picks, based on how sweet he was with OG Ningbao in the first life. She launches a 2 year seduction plan and her manipulations succeed in Heir Xie agreeing to break his engagement with OG Ningbao. OG Ningbao tries to protest, and Yang Shuqing has the orphan girl's brother's legs broken, future ruined, and OG Ningbao r*ped and sold off to a penniless scumbag relative who wants her dowry. For extra effect, she and her husband make a living off the wine recipe they stole from OG Ningbao, and dance on the remains of the rest of OG Ningbao's family, while celebrating that Yang Shuqing's pick for emperor came through and defeated her ex.

[collapse]

3rd life/ Current plot (Yang Shuqing as reincarnator, Ningbao as Transmigrator) :

Spoiler

Reincarnated Yang Shuqing (our antagonist) is rip-rearing-ready to go on living out her revenge plot. However, our protagonist, Ningbao, has now been replaced by a transmigrated modern woman who lived out the last 10 years of her life in a post-apocalyptical zombie wasteland. New Ningbao has read the book on reincarnated Yang Shuqing's second go round, and knows what's in store for her character. New Ningbao decides to side step it all and marry her ex's adopted father. And what do you know: they wind up being a perfect fit! Yang Shuqing starts foaming at the mouth that someone else is getting nice things, and self destructs like Rumpelstiltskin.

[collapse]

What I like about it: Our MC, Ningbao, doesn't let others walk all over her, but her revenges are moderate, realistic, and proportionate with the offense offered. I find this a welcome breath of fresh air after the likes of "Malicious Empress of Military Linage" and all of its copy cats, where it's normal for even the slightest of offenses to result in a vicious female lead deciding to torture you to death and call it justice. For example, if you plot to sell her out for a promotion, instead of your whole family getting mu*dered, your scheme just isn't going to work: your new job offer is going to be pulled before you even start, and you'll have to return to your old position, embarrassed. Greedy, blowhard relatives get stonewalled, ignored, and cut out of benefits, rather than ruined or killed. Most of the big downfalls are from the bad idiots being bad idiots.

Our main lead, Ningbao, transmigrated from a post apocalyptic wasteland, and that definitely influences her world view. She wants to enjoy things, protect those close to her, and avoid petty conflicts she views as inconsequential unless she's provoked. Even then, she prefers to completely side step around the confrontation to get to her goal faster. It's also made her wildly attracted to big, deadly men, and, after never having a relationship, in either life, she is *thirsty* once she meets our male lead, who is just her type, and proceeds to awkwardly and shamelessly flirt like an inexperienced, but determined, nerdling.

Our touch-starved male lead is a monstrous and quiet mountain of a Manly Man. He was born with such an ominous aura that people literally get sick in his presence and, after a week of close contact, can die. While this served him well on the battlefield, he grew up without human contact and needing to show constant restraint from harming others. He comes across like a great, hulking beast who, after a lifetime of being alone, has found a tiny bunny who wants to be his friend, and he is so grateful, afraid, and wonderous for this miracle he's been presented, he's going to take the absolute best care of it, even as it poops in his shoes and tries to bite him for attention. It is too effing precious for words. I have the feeling he's going to get a touch horn dog possessive, but I imagine our FL will be totally fine with that and even welcome it.

The main female antagonist, Yang Shuqing, reminds me of a mean, overly pampered Chihuahua--vicious, loud, insistent, blind to danger in relation to her size, and once she latches on, she refuses to let go. She is very brand- conscious, going for the label rather than actual quality. She wants the og male lead because he was labeled the best husband in the capital, not because she actually likes him. She mopes around that her terrible, abusive, relationship as a royal concubine in her past life was more prestigious and got her nicer things. Like, she actually complains and starts rethinking getting married at all because her wedding dress this life can only have ducks on it, not noble pheasants like last time. She's very self absorbed, and one gets the feeling the author is trying to sneak in a smidge of commentary on the impact such people have on a family, community, and the country.

Heir Xie, the OG male lead, is about 90% good person, he just got swept astray by the manipulations of the OG female lead, whom he is slowly seeing for who she really is. He's largely a non-entity in the story, but appears redeemable. I feel a bit bad for him. He's like when your true Good Guy friend somehow ends up dating a total selfish, psycho b****, and no one really knows how to help him.

Overall, this is fun, flirty, and low stress. It's more slice of life than true revenge, but it's still fun to watch the antagonists pop in every once in a while and act like idiots the MC dances around as she achieves her domestic bliss and settles down with her dream man to have babies. <<less

It's a good novel. The story isn't anything new, but it's not too much like the rest of the genre. The big twist of course is that the protagonist is in another protagonist's rebirth-revenge story.

Our protagonist (JN) is from the modern world and has better morals compared to the opposing protagonist (YS), who has no qualms with hurting anyone else for the sake of their own personal vendetta.

In the original world, JN had a happy life and marriage. She was also great at brewing medicinal wine and made a fortune.... more>> But in that world, YS helped Prince Jin become emperor and was betrayed. So, YS rebirths and decides to steal JN's fiance and use JN's secret wine recipe to make a fortune and support Prince Qin to the throne. This of course ruins JN's marriage and life, but YS doesn't care. But of course, JN is replaced by a modern person who has read the rebirth-revenge novel they're in.

It's a fun read because JN never suffers any major losses, while YS's plans keep on getting messed up because of JN. YS is genuinely fun to read along. She reacts vividly and so purely out of her sense of selfish revenge. You almost want to root for her. You at least want her to have a happy ending. But she doesn't know when to quit and is even willing to kill newborn babies, so you end up agreeing with her sad fate.

The ML was also nice. He's nothing like the chauvinistic, stuck-up and too prideful and toxic ML's from other novels. He's a serious type who's never experienced love before and has fallen head over heels for JN and isn't afraid to admit it.

So, I highly recommend reading this novel if you have some time and want to feel good. The MTL version is plenty readable with a little effort. <<less

This is a good read. Although the timeline of the MC's crossover is very confusing, the story itself is entertaining.

The plot is one whole pot of dog blood drama. But in itself is also satisfying.

The mtl is quite easy to read and understand, so not much were lost when reading it. But kudos to the translator. Once fully translated, I will read this again.

The ML is quite cute, but not the usual possessive, overbearing type. I love their interaction.

5 stars for me since I enjoyed it.

Ok so. The FL and ML's first interactions are really cute. Especially in the courting stage. She always took initiative and whaddaya know, he's a piece of block. What made me continue was how she was very bold and shameless around him. ML was always the same through out the whole novel. Whenever he comes home his descriptions are always like "seeing the FL's smile his gloomy brows and aura retracted. And his eyes softened. " they never much had a long conversation and it's always the novel FL and... more>> how to take her down cuz her life is like a c*ckroach. They try slowly clip her wings.. He became a h**ny dog after the wedding night IMO. Well I guess it's okay since it's hers relationship (shes from a sci-fi world). Her magical wine's are like "DaFaq" and how did she get this magic when I dont think she has the time to brew wine in her world.

Timeline was confusing. At the first chapter it says she was 'shocked' to find out she transmigrates into a book a 'few days ago'but turns out shes been there for years. I'm like???? Author what? (Ors it was because I mtled so it don't make sense)

Anyways so the novel FL is probably the only character that grew darker by each chapter. Her story before her rebirth was very similar "rebirth of the malicious empress...." (chased after a prince but actually was a scum) but smart wise, idk how her brain downgraded every chapter. Like sure you can take your revenge to people who mistreated you but man, she really just involved innocent people and separated them for a life time because of her jealousy. Like I dont get how shes so fixated to FL. You kinda stole the fiance so like go on your revenge business. Sheesh. She's very malicious mary sue. Lucky the FL woke up or I must say, saved a lucky secondary ML from her halo.

Which brings to the novel ML. He's such a pitiful baby. He's a good boy. He really liked the novel FL but she wasn't content and always talked to another prince. He never berated to his ex fiance despite having low reputation because he broke their engagement off. At some point he remembered, well he dreamt his past where he married his fiance and had a good life together and never met the novel FL. He compared dream and reality and realized he was schemed against. Too bad, he realized it too late. He didn't against his morals and stayed obedient and became her "grown son". I hoped he had a good remarriage. He was a really good guy??

To the FLs family, let's just say theres 1 chicken and 5 greedy pigs. Her parents came around the end of the chapters so idk what to say.

The story pretty much revolves around the NFL trying to kill FL, brief childcare, shameless people and the people NFL fooled. The last thigh the NFL hugged is a big dumb a$$. He let his legal wife die. He never realized he was just being used as a meat shield. He shoulda broke it off when she was being arrested. He could've saved himself

I don't really reccomend. The story was interesting at the start because FL was verybold to stone face ML. I found it cute but everything went meh after they got married. I wish they weren't so scared of her like idk use your popular business to destroy theirs and the magical wine? And no extras. I'm sad. <<less

I'm not throwing shade at anyone, it's just that I have a different opinion about a character that was defended here, and I wanted to give my opinion. If you are reconsidering reading this novel because of what happens to this character you might find this review helpful. This character is Mingyao.

Yes, she did speak for MC a few times, but ultimately she sides with her mother.

Spoiler

Here, MC warns Mingyao's mother that if she takes the sutra written by ML, she might get sick because of the ominous energy he carries. But the woman insists, and as the MC warned, Mingyao's mother gets sick. But Mingyao still blames MC, she didn't know the whole story, but she knows that her mother has been plotting against MC for some time.

Ch75

"Jiang Mingyao who kept silent at the side finally could not help but speak, her voice was still cool and cold, "Fourth sister, you obviously know that the sutra carries ominous energy, why didn't you stop mother from opening it?"

''Jiang Ningbao stopped her steps and looked at Jiang Mingyao. From Jiang Mingyao's eyes, she could see a trace of resentment. She smiled faintly, "Fifth sister, you resent me?"

Jiang Mingyao stayed silent.

Jiang Ningbao's eyes flashed with a trace of disappointment. That's right. She had the intention to trick her oldest aunt, but she had reminded her before. If the oldest aunt trusted her words, she could not trick the oldest aunt. Maybe she was wrong. Right now, she was not the book's 'Jiang Ningbao' and Jiang Mingyao was not the book's Jiang Mingyao.

"Fifth sister, it's better if we distance ourselves. Chun Xi, let's go back."

Jian Mingyao may be a good person, but she knows that her mother mistreats her cousin, and yet she resents her cousin when she defends herself, here MC didn't even do it on pourpose, and yet Mingyao blames her. So they naturally departed, in fact, in chapter 76 this happens:

Ch76

''After a night, Jiang Mingyao thought it through. Fish and bear paw could not unite. The conflicts between first branch and the second branch were not something that could vanish just because of a few words. Moreover, Madam Zhang agreed with all her might for the engagement annulment that time.

The guilt in her heart won.

Jiang Mingyao decided to do as Jiang Ningbao said, only contacting Jiang Ningbao a little, being a little closer than strangers."

So you can see that Mingyao made her own decision to walk away from her cousin because, in the end, she chose her mother. Understandable even if her mother is a ****. But the point is, she made a decision. From then on, you can't blame MC for not treating her like someone close and going to save her when her mother messes up.

[collapse]

After that, there were other moments when Mingyao "surfed" the MC wave. When MC got something good, her family used MC to get things for Mingyao too. Like this :

Spoiler

Ch126

"Early in the morning, Xie family's second branch sent someone to tell that the marriage of the fifth granddaughter and Xie Jinghui was changed to the first of the fifth month, the same marriage date as the fourth granddaughter.

Old Madam Jiang did not even think before agreeing.

The day the fourth granddaughter got married, it would be grand and magnificent. The fifth granddaughter and the fourth granddaughter were related blood cousins and the ladies of Changning Count Residence, she could bask in the fourth granddaughter's light."

Or this :

Ch 126

"Fourth girl, you and fifth girl are cousins and are ladies of Changning Count Residence. Why don't you let your palace embroider also embroider the fifth girl's dress, what do you think?"

Or this :

Ch 126

Old Madam Jiang drank a mouthful of nerve-calming tea and looked at the fourth granddaughter deeply. She changed the topic, "Fourth girl, I heard that the two old servants you brought are from the palace. Fifth girl's marriage date is close to yours so why don't you let fifth girl also get educated by the two servants with you?"

Or this :

Ch127

Old Madam Jiang's gaze was ice cold. Her angry mouth even trembled, "You bast*rd! Don't think that having climbed on Duke Ding, you can sit back and relax. Don't forget that Jin boy is still in the residence. Do you want to ruin his future?"

The last sentence carried hidden threats.

The servant girls in the main hall all revealed shocked expressions, especially the old madam's servant girl, Hong Xing. She was shocked that her mouth gaped open wide with eyes filled with disbelief.

She did not think that old madam would use the third young master to force fourth lady for fifth lady.

The main hall descended into silence.

[collapse]

When you are used constantly in favor of someone, even if the person is not to blame it is natural for you to distance yourself, for that and for many other reasons, even if I don't hate Mingyao I don't have much sympathy for her either, She did try not to be involved, but their lives just went different directions. There was no reason for MC to go out of her way to help Mingyao, who by the way, always only used words to try to compensate but never actions. In the end, she never rejected all the things the family threw in her way even if this would hurt the MC. (With the exception of the two servants who were invited by Duke Ding Residence to teach MC before her wedding. And she only rejected it because the grandmother went too far and threaten MC's brother) And this is LITERALLY the only thing she actually did to "help" MC so far, before and after she just complain to her mother but in the end acquiesce.

Disclaimer: I only read as far as the translator posted so I can't be sure if later on she really helps the MC or if as usual, she just weakly says a few words and in the end doesn't do anything, as she has done so far.

Ed1: So, I finished this novel with MTL and I can say that Mingyao doesn't improve. MC even helps her, but she still sides with others and criticizes MC.

Spoiler

At one point MC and Mingyao's grandmother decided to try to marry Mingyao to ML as a concubine. Mingyao sends a notice to MC right away, not because she wants to help MC, but because she doesn't want to be a concubine. ML would never accept her as a concubine, so her "warning" was a cry for help, and MC decided to help Mingyao find one trusted military husband, so she doesn't have to be used by grandma's schemes.

[collapse]

Even after that, Mingyao remains ungrateful from my perspective
Even after knowing about all the grandmother's plans against MC, Mingyao defends the grandmother and says that the MC is going too far because she doesn't want to obey her grandmother.
Spoiler

Mingyao knows that her father tried to kill MC's parents and that the grandmother knew about it and never did anything.
Not to mention that the request that grandma made and that MC refused, was to return Mingyao's father's title (or get him out of jail, I don't remember for sure, but it's definitely one of the two). Yes, grandma was asking MC to help the man who tried to kill her parents. So the request was already unreasonable And yet Mingyao always blames MC for not agreeing. She says some sh*t to blame MC, even after all that MC has done to help her.

[collapse]

Ungrateful and likes to have high moral ground but doesn't actually do anything to support her words. So yeah, I rest my case against Mingyao. <<less

two unoriginal mary sue characters are in a face-slapping faceoff. Secondary characters are flat and s*upid. Setting is derivative. Main female characters are BOTH entitled selfish twits. Love interests are BOTH unpalatable tropes, one is a selfish ass, the other a brick.

plots might have been interesting if I weren't cringing as soon as someone opened their mouth.

I usually didn't write a review for a novel that I read. But this, I can't, I must write it.

First of all, I maybe bias. I like this kind of story and the plot is really interesting. It remind me of the other "novel" who have the same plot as this and maybe the same characteristic for the MC. Just a little bit. At least I can tolerate it the same scenario or plot.

But this, no. The execution was really terrible.

First of all, I like the MC character but her... more>> nonsense background story and nonsense power baffle me. Like, please choose one background story for the MC? Like what the hell is author thinking? Anyway, in short, she's an OP character. I can't really or sympathize with her. And how she behave towards others or reputations or somethjng like that, she's so frank and straightforward. I mean it's ancient china, and yes, reputation is everything, she even said it herself, but the way she act make her reputation quite unbelievable if you ask me in real scene. The funny thing is the audience who saw it, was like, she was right she was right. It's so 2D and it's not logical. (You will realise it yourself when she declare that she want to be her ex-fiance's mother to publiv. I mean who the f*ck does that?) Well she said herself that she was mad. At least she realised it. She's calm, but her character sometimes questioning my sanity. Sometimes she's quite dumb, ruthless, nice, like? Anyway I stoped reading this because of the MC.

While the rest characters are pretty much 2D characters. Doesn't have any depth story. Oh maybe this quite contrarily to other opinion. I like her ex-fiancee and the so-called-FL-by-The-MC there. At least their characters are legit justify why they act like that. Although quite dumb.

Also the duke, the adopted father of Ex-fiance's MC and her husband, quite superficial to me. I think he like the MC first cause of she's the only one who can stand her ominous energy and she's beautiful. If the ominous energy never happen, why should he glance at her? And why MC was so sure that she is fit to be with him? And the author just dump something like fated partner or she's actually the one for the duke, like. Hello, fcking plot armor.

She also said the FL have this FL halo. Now, she's the MC. She has this MC (FL) halo too. Lmao.

I quit this novel because I thought maybe the story will have this decent logical interaction with each other like the other "novel", but no, this is quite low quality. Don't believe the rating there's much better than this.

Overall I give this a 2 star plot, character design, world building, relationship, interaction, and common sense.

The only 5 star is MC's maid who're loyal to her until the end.

Except the translator, I give them 4. They work quite hard, although there's a mistake, but they worked hard so let's appreciate it. <<less

Pro: friendlyish sister relationship

1.5 And it was going so well (at least enjoyable). I think it very hard for me to read ancient china books with sexism - basically all of them but I want my MCs to f*ckin prevail bc I'm not reading FICTION for no reason.

Disclaimer, I read the mtl but I also think I can't justify this in my soul due to cultural dand generational differences from such ancient china plots - I find this accurately (historically) injust against women.

Against the female mc: her fraternal family did... more>> to her

Spoiler

- accepther reputation ruined for benefits for the second clan aka the grandma's real son and money for end engagement

- Grandma have certain moments of giving in but ultimately takes EVERY chance beyond her lifetime to ensure to suck the MCs benefits dry until the end esp after marriage

- Grandma hid and also knew her son attempted to mu*der her parents - they got away father and mother injured tho and lost 3-4 yrs from their children

- Always protecting her son despite him being greedy for her money etc

- Grandma turning a blind eye to how less meals she got bc she was orphaned when she knew damn well it was due to her son

- Grandma's son's branch

taking some assets from her parents after they "died"

- Grandma threatening MC's brother's marriage and future as a scholar to get her to share the little benefits she had from getting engaged with the duke aka controlling her despite NOT DOING ANYTHING TO add to her dowry, help her with the wedding etc.

- Using her connections, money, life despite the fact MC struggled 10x more than the 2nd branch to get anything bc again she has no parents bc again the grandma accepted this happened due to her son

- Turning blind eyes to mu*der

- Neverhelping her

- At best acquiescing if the grandma can't do anything about it any more

[collapse]

So when her parents
Spoiler

finally come back after the MC and her brother achieved success all by themselves with the difficulties produced by the grandma's children and her, the grandma is like ok so take the criminal charges off my son for mu*dering them bc look they survived and also

[collapse]

.. just because the grandma did that thing for her father
Spoiler

the mtl isn't clear on this but I know that father isn't her son but I'm pretty sure her father is still the son of the grandfather so it wasn't like she wasn't gonna have a home although the rank would have been different.

[collapse]

.. so suddenly the MC owes such a big debt and has to be always so grateful to the Grandma and what she does for this great fraternal family and grandma's son:

    • Spoiler

the grandma uses this fact she treated the MC's father "so well" despite him not being her son that she demands her to use her connections to take back the mu*der charge and HELP HER SON WHO STIL ATTEMPTED TO mu*der HER PARENTS SO NO SHE DIDNT TREAT THE MC'S FATHER SO f*ckING WELL OMG BOOK YOURE DUMB to also get his rank back through of course the MC's connections

      [collapse]
    • The MC literally accepts this request saying that "oh yea she didn't do anything too bad to me other than negligence" because what the grandma did for her father is much too great of a favor....
So here we are, the MC also being like yea the stuff that happened to ME as a woman and a single person in this family, BUT because I survived THIS TIME aka this transmigration*, yea I mean no big deal considering thatt ONE THING THE GRANDMA DID FOR MY FATHER - let's forget everything else. What grandma did NEGATES EVERYTHING. It means nothing. The MC's stuff we were mad about this 50% of the book - NO BIG DEAL BC GRANDMA DID THAT FOR DAD

Ok I guess the MC is a great bigger person. But in my opinion, this demonstrates how little the book and the MC views the weight of her struggles in comparison to a male (and the "family" as an entity being more important than an individual's struggle in ancient china), her father's benefit received from the grandma.
Spoiler

YOU want to be real? You want more rant?

Imo the grandma was never ever gonna keep this secret to the grave. She didn't mention it because there was a greater benefit for her family to keep this success first branch as a legitimate son, then after her son attempted to mu*der them, also there was still a benefit bc the MC can only help her family the most by having a legitimate son's daughter's rank to be engaged as an official wife to that adopted son of the duke as a child until the plot started, and then now the Grandma can hold this GREAT BOON she gave to the MC's "life"/father over her HEAD FOREVER TO TAKE CARE OF HER SON'S FAMILY THAT TRIED TO mu*der HER PARENTS EVEN AFTER SHE'S DEAD -she said that (and cheat her of her money all the time)... So... Yes. At least the Grandma is smart but it makes the logic to accept her request more dumb bc I'm not reading a f*cking nonfiction. I want JUSTICE f*ck. Whatever I read the mtl so maybe I'm all wrong /rant

Cute, lighthearted read. The premise was very interesting - MC transmigrated, original FL was reborn - both are aware of the plot and are trying to take advantage of it in their own way. It's ironic that for the original FL the knowledge of her past life backfired on her.

MC is very straightforward and direct person, I love how she actively pursued the ML because he was clueless about relationships. Their relationship is cute, but there's not much development if you ask me. She pursues him, he falls for her,... more>> they get married, the end. There was never any conflict between them. The MC is also very dependent on the ML to solve all her problems.

There are some minor inconsistencies (when did MC actually transmigrate over?) and information that's mentioned but not relevant (she came from a zombie infected apocalyptic world?). However, I still enjoyed the story. I love how supportive the mother-in-law is and I felt bad for the original ML - he was a decent guy that got schemed by the original FL and had to deal with an awkward situation of his ex-fiancee becoming his adoptive mother. Poor guy.

Overall, an enjoyable read. Would recommend. <<less

Spoiler

Reborn heroine is more of a rabid dog who bites even those that didn't do anything to her in past life like oriMC. Just because she was jealous of how happy oriMC was in past life she decided to steal her fiance which even ended up destroying oriML happiness.

Ori ML apart at start breaking his engagement with MC didnt do anything bad. I feel pity for him, how his status plummeted from heir to normal young master.

Reborn heroine even went on harming the woman who was engaged to oriML after their divorce despite herself being side wife of a prince. To her ori ML belongs to her. He should be her even after divorce.

She did end up becoming a mad woman at end, considering her husband as ori ml. Her husband is 2nd ML of her story but still he loved her so much that was ready to be a substitute ~.

Poor ori ML married 2nd time to a woman who look like MC as he kept having dreams of his previous life with oriMC where he was very very happy.~~

I feel like people had some different expectations reading this. I personally really enjoyed the interactions between our FL and ML. Yes the plot is unrealistic, the main characters are OP, the antagonists are a little 2D, but I really felt engaged by the story. I'm not looking for literary excellence from the transmigration romance genre. This story is entertaining without any major flaws and to me that's good enough.

Spoiler

It is one of the most disappointing novels that I have read, before reading the chapter of the reunion of mrs. Jiang and Mc's father, still had hopes of this novel and even convinced me that this novel was to pass the time, this because at the beginning of the novel the author, I think, did not decide on Mc's plot with respect to to their transmigration. One when she begins to read I think that she transmigrated at that moment, it is not until the plot progresses that we find out that Jiang Ningbao transmigrated since she was little. Now, although she has transmigrated since she was little because she did not prevent her parents from getting lost, I can understand the fact that she let Xie Jingyi leave her for Yang Shunqi, because at the end of the day you cannot force one to fall in love with another or be faithful to him, that's understandable, but his parents? reading how the author describes Jiang Ningbao, as a very smart boudoir girl, knows the plot, has that knack with wine, and has enormous strength, so... why not avoid your parents' tragedy? s*upid no? And no gentlemen, that's not the worst, when she meets Xie heng, the ML (the father of the ML of the novel) her reaction to falling in love was so abrupt, she seemed to be a girl with fantasies about older men, because she was 16 and Xie Heng 28, at that time it was normal to marry someone older, but Jiang Ningbao was transmigrated, she came from a world where that was rare, and hey I understand she would be 16 but her true age was older, but I think the author would have written about the meeting of Jiang Ningbao and Xie heng, in a not so abrupt way, perhaps showing the intelligence of Jiang Ningbao and the subtlety and suspicion of Xie heng towards her, but no, Xie Heng falls in love with her at first sight just because she resisted the cursed spirits, and from how Xie heng is described, as a cunning and intelligent man that no one can penetrate his mind, one does not expect him to fall in love at first sight, please, for a person with that description, prime One hopes that he suspects the person (Jiang Ningbao) who can approach him, that would be normal, or wonder why he would choose to marry you, that you have a curse and a title sought by everyone, instead of your son who is more young and you can understand better with her, of course by then the son left FL for the villain, but as a father the last thing you think about is marrying the ex-girlfriend of your adopted son, just ridiculous how he handled that scene. For the worst I kept reading, I said at some point this improves I told myself, how naive, the protagonists get married, and the stickiness that both have worsens, I had read before that Xie heng wanted to be with Jiang Ningbao in a more implicit relationship, what seemed strange to me and a bit disturbing, while reading those scenes, in my mind I was a type: and where is the ML that is cold and nobody gets attached to it, that ML that is a gentleman who does not seek pleasures in brothels? it was a bit funny and ridiculous, the author described it in such a way that later it does not coincide with the actions that Xie heng committed. Now I emphasize that I liked how direct Jiang Ningbao was at times when resolving conflicts, that was refreshing, usually transmigrated or reincarnated MC of this type, they usually do things below clear without exceeding the limits of their morality It is difficult for this type of FL to trust them and it is difficult for MLs of this type to make them trust them, or to complain to them about the grievances, and if they complain, well, they do not do it because they trust them but only to use them. It is rare to read a gossipy and confident FL like Jiang Ningbao. When she marries Xie heng, she practically lets him take care of everything, where is the clever and witty FL that the author described? be disappointed, I even hoped that she would take over the wine stall that the villain was running because well the villain stole the recipe from the previous Jiang nignbao, but she does absolutely nothing.

[collapse]

Spoiler

But what makes this novel worse are the scenes of Jiang nignbao's interaction with mrs. Jiang.
Let's see, let's recap:
1.- The parents of Jiang jingbao and mrs. jiang treat them badly
2.- If she could, Mrs. Jiang married her to Jiang nigbao and Jiang jin to anyone beyond her range.
3.- Mrs. Jiang did not help her when she left her xie Jinyi, on the contrary she wanted to benefit from it at the expense of Jiang Ningbao
4.-Mrs. Jiang closed and opened one eye regarding what Ms. zhang and with that makes her an accomplice.
5.- Jiang nigbao clarifies a lot of times to mrs. jiang not to mess with her, but at every opportunity mrs. Jiang kept wanting to benefit from her at her expense, even wanting to send her other granddaughter as the concubine of Jiang Ningbao's husband.
6.- Mrs. Jiang blackmails Jiang Ningbao with the birth of her father.
7.- I am not satisfied with blackmailing Mrs. Jiang, blackmails her a second time Jiang Ningbao and his parents WHEN IT WAS THE SON OF MRS. JIANG WHO PLANNED THE mu*der OF JIANG NINGBAO'S PARENTS, and what Jiang Ningbao and his parents do, accept the conditions of Mrs. Jiang, and even protecting her grandchildren and great-grandchildren from Mrs. Jiang.
DISAPPOINTING, in this part of the novel I thought that I was continuing to read this novel, Jiang ningbao did slap Yang shunqui several times but when it comes to mrs. Jiang, allowed himself to be blackmailed, it was only enough for Ynag shunqui to find out about the lady's secret. Jiang and join her in taking down Jiang Ningbao and her family including Duke Dingguo. That was how easy it was to deal with the FL in this novel.

[collapse]

My recommendation is that if you only have to read and you have patience, a lot of patience, I read this novel, you will have a good time <<less

Very enjoyable read. Love the interactions between the 2 MCs. My favorite has to be the ML. He went from an innocent blockhead to a loving and doting husband and father. Lots of lovey dovey moments between the 2. I think FL's character is realistic. She does not attack anyone unless she attacked. Another reviewer mentioned that she was digusted by what the FL did to her cousin by destroying her engagement but if you put yourself in her shoes, would you let an uncle and his family that hired bandits to kill your parents, steal their assets, covet your dowry, fed you food that made you infertile, go scot free? For me, she was already very magnanimous only taking away his official rank and breaking the cousin's engagement as a by product. Well, the aunt had to die but she deserved it. The FL later on also helped this cousin find a good husband that was an official among her husband's subordinates which is more than what I would do.

However, this story is not without flaws. The original novel FL (antagonist) set up is weak. The entire premise of why she attack the FL is because she is jealous of the FL's previous life. In that timeline, the FL lead a very good life with the original novel's ML (son) so in this life, she had to get rid of her to usurp her position and marry the ONML. When that didn't work out, she remembered that the soon to be crowned emperor in the previous timeline was smitten with her so she decided to go to him and continue her deranged plans. The author just pinned it on her being jealous person which is abit absurd. The other flaw was her magical wine which was not explained how she made them magical. Was it her blood, some chants or whatever, at least give an explanation. The part about the FL coming from a zombie apocalypse timeline also didn't add anything to the story other than to explain why she liked the ML coz he was a tough man with a deadly aura and that she could withstand birth pains unlike historical women *facepalm*

Overall, I would give it a 4.25 rating. I would up the rating to 4.5 if the author had added a couple of epilogues on how the 2 MCs lead the rest of their life and also what happened to the original novel's ML (son) and his marriage. He was such a pitiable character and I wonder if he ever got over his love for the FL. The ending was just too abrupt.

It was 5 stars at first and eventually became 4 stars towards the end. There's this never dying original female lead that's too annoying. I sympathized with the actual FL of this story because she's just living her carefree life, but the original female lead just kept on pestering her. *Insert Regina George's 'Why are you so obsessed with me?'

I read the translated version up to chapter 132 and continued reading the mtl version. (The continuation is at chapter 42 in the mtl)

I really like the actual FL's character.... more>> She's not the usual transmigrated woman who goes an eye for an eye. She knows how to forgive and how to let go some things. It gets tiring to read so many FL characters that always do the extreme just to extract revenge, as how the original female lead was. The ML and the actual FL's personalities are high quality.

The character development for the characters were seen early at the story, but after that no further development will happen. The actual FL's parents were unnecessary characters in the story in my opinion. I lost interest in the story after they came back to be honest. I just skimmed through the last chapters because they were no longer interesting. <<less

This is an ok read. Whilst I am happy for all the fluff and sorts.....I feel like MC was too OP and lucky.... The antagonist (YS) is obviously smarter and more cunning. I actually enjoyed reading her parts. Whilst the story tries to make you root for the MC you cant help but notice how human and real YS is. It’s a story within a story with a book.

FL - that’s our character

ML- that’s our character

... more>> subgirl- the original heroine of the original story

subguy- the original hero of the original story

FL is 16, ML is 28, subguy is 18 or 19 and subgirl is 17 or 18?

Our FL read a story about rebirth revenge. The subgirl becomes a imperial concubine and is eventually discarded when she’s no longer useful. During her miserable life she was super jealous of FL’s original book character. She was married to a Duke (inherited the position from his adopted father) who was deeply devoted to her, and he loved her so much that she was the only one in his bed. So once the heroine was reborn she decided that this dukedom and devoted husband should all belong to her. That story ends with the heroine getting everything she wanted.

FL finishes reading that typical revenge book and dies. But she dies and ends up becoming that character who had her fiancé and dukedom position eventually robbed by the story’s heroine.

FL knows the plot, she doesn’t like her fiancé and as the book tile says, she ho*kups with her exs adopted father.

There’s a lot more to it than that but those would all be spoilers. And I’m not going to include those in this review. <<less

I really enjoyed this story eventhough the FL in the original novel is annoying and cruel. I'm not sure if it was the translation but it was quite confusing at first when the MC originally transmigrated. But I'm guessing the MC transmigrated since very young but is not aware yet of the plot of the story. She might have become aware of the plot before her engagement to the novel's ML was annulled, otherwise, she would have prevented her parents from being killed.

Sometimes, you can't expect the plot to be... more>> too intellectual or realistic, as long as the story is entertaining and has a great progression/plot. Take for example, she has some powers in brewing some wines so that they miraculously cure you. Transmigrating in itself is just a plot device. Don't try to be too smart when you read some novels, it's not a textbook.

I like the shy and "block of wood" Duke and the flirty MC Ningbao. They have a really good dynamics and open affection for each other. Please spare me from simpering misses. The ML Xie Heng is a block of wood at first because he never interact with females before, not even his mother because of the bad spirit in his body that harms delicate individuals, esp women. The only exception is Ningbao, who can get close to him without harm. But he was not really shy, he's just a little innocent in the area of romance, and later becomes a wolf in sheep's clothing, but he's not dominant, it's more like, once you taste it, you always want it, but he's not forceful. The dominant partner here is still the FL, Ningbao.

The only person she really wants to protect here is her brother, then her husband and mother-in-law and her babies. She's really not a vindictive person but the novel's FL is very cruel and dumb. Don't be too greedy. Although she didn't die in the end, she still got her comeuppance. But I really think the author should have killed her off.

It's a very happy ending for the MC. But the villains didn't really have a bad ending (death). Their lives becomes worse but it's not really notable in the end. What I wish is a side story for XI JingYi, the original fiancee. It was mentioned that the novel's FL and ML became closer/deep in love because of the problems caused by the original Ningbao, but since the transmigrated Ningbao decided to move forward and married the Duke in peace, these two leads didn't have to fight against her schemes, so they didn't fall that deep.

Spoiler

Regarding Ningbao's paternal family, she didn't really abandon them but stopped them from using her all the time. She did help her cousin Shuyan to have a protection under the influence of the Duke and she helped Mingyao find a good marriage partner instead of being a concubine, she invited her grandmother to her banquets to give the family some protection, she even helped restore their title eventhough his Uncle tried to kill her parents.

I am waiting for more chapters. I have read the novel till chapter 137. If someone know when will translator complete translating this novel, please let me know.

When I read reviews about this story, I was hesitating to start reading it because many have mention MC's short coming or how the details related to MC is not mentioned in the novel because of that this novel may looks like have lots of open loop holes.

But if you take this novel from the perspective of girl (MC) who wants to live... more>> fully and the writer's perspective who doesn't want to waste words in explaining details and wants to keep this novel fluffly cute novels so you will accept it more easily.

Novel is well balanced in all sense.

MC: character buildup is also good. First MC wants to live fully so she thinks she should show dominant behavior to get her happiness because she is from the time where you have to to fight for food and everything. So from the start she had that mentality but when she start behaving shy and blush more. This was positive change in her. She is accepting being loved and when she tried to complain about everything to Duke. This development seems like she is letting go past and becoming dependent in someone whom she trust fully.

ML: he was block of wood. But he strat learning everything step by step. Few things he did which seems s*upid or someone could think he is forcing her behavior on her (when Duke start sending her fruits and she said she didn't want it anymore but Duke still send her... Duke thought because she is shy that's why she is saying NO, like in the story. duke read and learn from) but he learned after it.

Through out this fluffly novel if you just focus on main MC and ML.

I love this novel and I want to request translator to please translate this novel. <<less
