This is one of my all time favorite stories. I've been reading it since freshman year of HS. Probably read it over at least 5 times? I don't remember.

What I loved most about this story is probably the MC's personality. He's a greedy dude that knows wow others, but he also really cares about his family. He grows up poor and in not so great environment, which I found relatable, which probably was a solid reason why I like him so much.

The world/ story building is honestly pretty amazing as... more>> well. Many moments created were interesting and humorous. Mc's interactions within events and with others was something I loved to read.

However, after many arcs, the story regrettably draws on too much. I honestly don't remember where I last left off, but it had gotten to a point where it got stale. Story was repetitive, characters were irrelevant, MC was repetitive.

But if you want a fun and entertaining read that will distract you for many many hours, this is for sure a fun read. <<less

Great premise and starting point, but the characters have no moral growth. This is a self-fulfillment fantasy of a selfish, cruel man. It could have been a most epic redemption and rags-to-riches story, but the author just made Weed exactly like his name. The result is a Mary sue workaholic.

It has a good balance of comedy and action, definitely one of the best VR game novels out there. The quests and progression inside the game are interesting and the fights are exciting. However, the real life parts are not good and there is no personality progression. Overall, I recommend this novel, at the start it gets you hooked, but eventually it starts getting a bit repetitive.

The novel I started litrpg genre with. Nostalgic with an amusing MC. All in all a balanced VR game where even among the very best players the gap isn't all that big and most of it ultimately comes down to cunning. Well defined plot but would get repetitive after some time as these novels tend to do. Still definitely worth a read. You will enjoy it.

This novel is a good read about a virtual reality game. Some good things about the novel are the unique protagonists, good early world-building, and generally a good reading experience. That said, there are unignorable problems that detract from the main experience. One issue is the inconsistent translation by Japtem, which is the first translation group. At times, navigating the translation mistakes made reading and understanding the novel harder and less enjoyable. Additionally, the game world is massive and the novel doesn't do a great job explaining where everything is.... more>>
Spoiler

It states that there are multiple kingdoms but the novel doesn't specify where the kingdoms are, which has made trying to understand where the main character is going harder as well. I strongly suggest that the author actually creates a map of the entire world to help visualize the journey. This would also help with the consistency later down the road.

[collapse]

Furthermore, the author often changes the perspective of the novel abruptly. This would not have been a problem if the perspective was changed to a character that was introduced early on or to a character that creates more mystery in the plot, but this isn't the case. The perspective often switches to a minor character that has more relevance further down the line. This is a bad thing because it is too much information given at the wrong time.
Spoiler

One example is the expeditions to the north. The author revealed ahead of time that the expeditions were struggling from the extreme cold and constant attacks from monsters when Weed, the main character, hasn't even crossed paths with them. The effect this had was that it broke the suspense and significance of Weed encountering the expedition force.

[collapse]
The author doesn't know when to restrict information from the readers. The best analogy I can think of that relates to this novel is when a person is feeding another person with the same food to the point that they get sick of it. The narrator can be omniscient but that doesn't mean the narrator has to say everything that the narrator knows directly at once. <<less

I was really excited for this novel. After reading three others of similar genre, and being recommended this novel, I started reading it while full of expectations.

However, I was colossally let down. It may not be the fault of the author, but the translations are really shoddy, with grammatical mistakes, strange sentence structures, missing words, and even the deliberations of the translator were littered throughout. (So far I've endured, because I noticed another translator picked it up, but I really just can't stand it anymore, so I had to write... more>> this review)

Another con of the novel (and this isn't the translator's fault) is the crap timing of scene-switching!!! At. Every!! Exciting. POINT! THEY CUT TO ANOTHER SCENE!!! WHY? This is just torture. I might continue reading since I've already sunk time into it... But if you haven't started, I really don't recommend it. And it seems like the MC doesn't have any character development at all... When they narrated his life of poverty and his exceptional tenacity, I really wanted to like him. It's fun to root for an underdog, especially the kind who makes it through hard work, but the novel just keeps cutting to descriptions of his poverty, almost as though it's trying to give excuses for his behavior. While it is true that poverty can define your character, in a position where you don't lose anything, there's no need for the MC to be shameless. The geomchi's behavior is also utterly repulsive. The running gag of them wanting women is tiresome and insulting. They shamelessly drink the MC's preciously fermented liquors, and they eat without paying etc. Extortion would be better than these thieves masquerading as comrades. Even Seoyoon! Rarely tries to repay the services the MC provides her (out of fear and a misunderstanding).

The setting has so much potential, but it was really ruined by the mistakes of the author and translator adding up. It's frustrating to read. My eyes literally skip over the words because there's so much useless information in the broadcasts.

If you want to read something like this, I highly recommend The Second Coming of Gluttony or Overgeared instead. They provide actual character development, great translations and well-developed worlds. <<less

MC is weak shit. I get that MC doesn't have any cheat. But At least make him enter the game from thes start? When Everyone already became level 200 He entered the game. Hes very late to become something good in the game. Without any cheat without any future knowledge he still can beat high level players. Isn't this the greatest plot armor.?

The MC is pretty great. He's extremely flawed but still likable.

Much of the MMO stuff is half baked. Skills are mostly just different flavors of "he attacked". Levels dont seem to be rooted in any greater concept than general progression. Stats are just a reflection of your general level. The translation quality is all over the place. You'll often be enjoying native quality work and then run into MTL level gibberish for a couple of chapters.

One of the best novel i’m reading.

Not the usal MC you find. You will laugh a lot believe me.

The story is well written and well driven for me. Its the kind of novel you’re angry only because the release should be faster or adapted in an anime. The scan are not high level when you compare to the novel so I advise people to restart from the begining if you started through the scan.

Best novel out there, enough said. I hate it when people can stomach those copy-paste chinese novels (where every novel has the same story, same elements) or the "iseksai - lets go goof around in another world and just waste time, surrounded by a harem with which there's only a platonic realationship" japanese novels, and yet they nitpick about korean novels that are a rather good read.

The world building is good and character development is much better than in some other novels. There are many ingenious concepts in this novel... more>> and the writing is good, it actually feels like you're reading a story. <<less

I love the MC! I've never laughed out loud with any story like I have with this one. The complaints about his characterization are completely unfounded and based entirely on those reviewers' subjective tastes, not on the portrayal of the MC himself--who's both extremely consistent and entirely empathetic with his greedy nature. Probably one of the best character driven web novel's I've ever read--next would have to be 'The Novel's Extra'.

Hopefully, this author doesn't start recycling tropes like the author of 'The Novel's Extra' did. So far, I'd have to... more>> say it's even better than 'The King's Avatar' (SPOILER!!!) since that novel lost all it's luster after everyone found out Ye Xiu's identity and this novel doesn't suffer from the defect of explaining all the fights in excruciating detail. Each new arc has its own interesting challenges and most importantly, this author understands that most people don't like reading play by plays of fight scenes. Fights do not convey well to most novels and definitely don't convey at all to novels translated by amateurs. So far, I can count the paragraphs I've skimmed on one hand.

Kudos to the author!!! <<less

One of my favorite CN. A slow paced adventure novel. A douche bag MC who only cares about money (well it understanable because of his tragic past) and not OP MC. Some says that the MC is totally OP but seriously it is not. He prepares for everything he even spent hours or days just to grind his skills proficiency. And there are a huge misunderstanding between and MC and FL in the beginning?.

It a very good novel where it really develops its whole content thats why it is so... more>> slow paced. But its worth reading!!! (๑・ω-) ~♥” <<less

This is my first review in NU.

I do not want to explain anything from this novel because it has been explained by others.

... more>> What I love about this novel:

• Mc's personality has not changed from the beginning until now, although MC now has a lover but his personality has not changed much.

• I like Weed to exploit friends in his party.

This is an MMORPG not a real world, you have to exploit your character to be better even in a bad way.

• I love the personality of MC who often complains.

This is a good thing because MC is a greedy man and this adds a real impression.

• I love the player rivalry between ----- with Weed individually or in the kingdom.

I hope after this competition is finished this novel will also be completed.

This novel contains several plots that come from various missions, but this is in accordance with the MMORPG theme so it does not matter.

As mentioned another review there is one plot that feels bad, but will improve in the next plot.

Perhaps many say Weed psychopaths, but I love it because MC never forgets his early goals as well as his past.

Many of the novels in which his personality changed because of adapting to new things, but in reality personality is not a dress that you can change as you like. Many complain why other players are not as smart as MC, then I will answer:

1. This is a novel that ultimately the main focus remains MC.

2. If many characters in a clever novel MC how long a plot will be finished?

1000 chapters?

5000 chapters?

9999999999 chapters?

3. If a lot of characters in the novel clever MC, then what great mission will be solved MC ???

While Weed himself is a new player in this novel.

Do you guys want to see the story of MMORPG players in the real world?

I think not because it's so boring.

Yup, just get here and if there are wrong words please forgive. <<less

It's been a while since I stopped read this novel so my review might not be precise. It's one of the first novels if not the first that I read, I liked it so much even though it mad me angry a lot of times, it's my genre, good backstory, good overall progress, with funny moment. But my main problem with novel witch mad kid of dropped it is the MC, he is a psycho, witch is good for a story as a starting point though he is irreparable, there... more>> is no progress in his personality, he is a sheep stingy money skeptical maniac. All he care about is to make money, even though he mad a lot of money, and it's obvious from the start for him and for us that he can make more, yet all his worries is still money. You can understand and sympathies with him first considering his past, but for him not to change at all it's lose interest in the long term. Another aspect bad about him is complaining, I remembered him complaining a lot even about a good opportunities witch really gets on my nerves. Finally the guy didn't show any interest in girls, witch was obvious from the start yet I didn't gave it much thoughts, witch is a problem either he keeps like so or if he suddenly change, witch gonna make no sense. <<less

This is a very good series with some problems that becomes apparent as the story goes along.
There are a lot of side stories included.
The plot lines are extremely long.
The actions in the scene tends to repeat, especially in the dialogue or jokes.
These combined with a slow pace means you can read 10 volumes to progress 60% in a quest line. I personally feel the author should use more time skips since I simply don't want to read half the stuff that is written.

I have a hard... more>> time finding why I don't want to continue it but I did read over 40 volumes so I can not say it is a bad series. Perhaps too much of a good thing or the author getting a bit off track with needing to produce all the time and getting stuck in previously defined plot lines. <<less

Probably my favorite light novel (LN) of all time or at least in the top 3. When I first picked this series up I spent 2 days going from start to finish without stopping. I literally didn't do anything other than read this series.

There are some flaws with the translations that you need to be made aware of due to the large number of different translators that have picked up or dropped the series. That being said the translators have done a fantastic job.

Takes an interesting approach to the main... more>> character (MC) and the MC's in-game character name, Weed. The whole idea behind the story seems to be that no matter what location its in, a weed will always find a way to grow. In other words, perseverance. Never giving up.

the LN also takes an interesting approach to MMORPG's and Character advancement and even class selection, quests and NPC relations. There are times where there are several chapters in a row without a combat sequence, but I enjoyed these parts sometimes more than the combat sequences. That being said, the combat is nothing to dismiss either. I've often found myself thoroughly deep in the imagination of the battle and even rooting alongside characters outside of the game world that are cheering the MC on.

Overall, the battle's are great, the production moments are interesting, the quests are fun, the player interactions are believable, the personalities are relatable (to an extent), the characters are well developed with good backstories and its just a great LN to read. <<less

This is arguably one of the best LNs, I have ever read and the best virtual game based LN, I have ever read. This story inspired quite a few other LNs (based on virtual MMORPGs).

It may not be too deep and emotional, and is lacking quite a bit in the romance and emotional department but it does have a great portrayal of family love and the hardships the MC faced in his childhood for the sake of his family, which created his jaded money hungry personality. This frugal side of... more>> him is used as a running comedy gag all throughout the story. It is also said he doesn't like love and such as it will only waste money.

However the battle scenes and wars are very amazing and are the main highlight. His perseverance and his growth in the game captivates many people. As the author says the MC is a simple minded and not one for complexities (except for his money hungry plans) so the story is not too complicated and is very easy to understand. The story background and the buildup of the story (virtual) world is also amazing. The effort he puts into various professions and quests is also quite amazing and inspirational.

In my opinion, this story is one of the top 10 stories, I have ever read. He is very endearing character and his actions are always interesting and surprising. Just like his game name Weed, his main trait is his unrelenting and enduring will. <<less

You must read this!

1. Author very smart man.
2. Charismatic MC.
3. Sometimes annoying but very important for plot side stories.
4. Perfect description of battle's.
5. Balanced world (I mean u can get OVERPOWERED ability but u must put the same amount of efforts).
6. Smart enemies (Oh I really love this. You will understand once u get to ~25 volume).
7. Somehow it's realistic to me, it's like Game of Thrones u know it can t be but its looks realistic.

Damn fun novel, except that the non-japtem 'translations' up until rainbow turtle takes on the project with a grasp of korean to actually assist the machine translation, are complete gobbledygook to someone with a strong grasp of English.

If you enjoy the awful translations from raising the dead, you won't be detered, but those of you who still believe in nicieties like coherent plot-lines and dialogue would do well to wait for someone to bridge the gap.

Lots of focus on the actual vrmmo game elements, with a light smattering... more>> of romance and real life intrigue to break up the mood, read this if you want a break from abstruse dialogue and labyrinthine character rosters engaging in knife-fight political intrigue.

Lots of gold accumulating greed to enjoy, despite the best efforts of a cruel world seeking to impoverish our protagonist. <<less
