More emphasis on leveling and in-game shenanigans than in God Level Summoner (some of the oddly translated gaming terms make my eyes bleed:'Seckill' instead of 'instakill'', 'brush creatures' instead of 'kill mobs', 'developing' instead of 'leveling' and many others... But this may not bother non-gamers & the translation & editing does get better post chapter 100.)

Qin Mo and Xiao Han's relationship seems secondary to the e-sports plotline. It's not slow burn, it's snail-crawling-speed/ continental-drift-rate burn... At least by chapter 133 we have Zhu Qingyue and his own romantic adventures... more>> to make it all better.

Edit: Nvm, ch 136 speeds things along... If you know what I mean. ❤️ ? ?

It's been a fun read so far. 4.5/5 <<less

While the MC (Qin Mo) and ML (Xiao Han) were introduced and became friends in the previous story in the series (God Level Summoner) most of the other characters are new. Reading GLS provides backstory but is unnecessary for enjoying this story. However if you liked GLS you'll like this. The gaming sequences are interesting but not very in depth. I prefer TKA's style but I know some people disagree. There isn't much suspense but sometimes it's nice watching the main characters feed everyone a lot of dog food as... more>> they form a team, get together, and win the championship. There are also several side characters who seem likely to pair up as well.

MC is a bit of a Tsundere: loves playing e-sports but was too proud to tell his best friend, his mentor, and his teammates when his hand was crippled in a car crash. Naturally his team had problems with their new captain strategizing and training recruits instead of serving as their Ace, and he retired with an apology but no explanation. After three years with no contact, a new game comes out which is less physically demanding and he starts playing again. He soon runs into his best friend who is creating a team and invites him to be captain.

ML is very open about how much he missed the MC and how important the MC is to him. However chinese is his second language and the MC is used to correcting his mistakes on metaphors and connotations, so while it soon becomes obvious to others that ML is romantically interested MC is oblivious. ML has no problems stealth dating MC, including going undercover as a couple to investigate another team's guild. <<less

God this novel is a mess.

First, let's talk about the characters.

I am a fan of both the first and second books so I read the king's return with a sort of expectation. After all, I really liked Qin Mo and Xiao Han. Even now, I don't have much of a problem with their characters besides the fact that the author makes Xiao Han seem a little... dumb? He is supposed to be really smart and he just doesn't understand Chinese idioms, but some of the idioms are not even exclusive... more>> to China!

Spoiler

For example, the "rubbing salt on the wound" is a phrase that is very popular. And yet, Xiao Han doesn't understands it? Author jiejie, do you think foreigners or those raised in foreign countries aren't as bright as those born in China?

[collapse]

Now here is the main reason why I rated this a one star: Chu Yan and Zhu Qingyue.

Spoiler

GOD I AM SO FRUSTRATED BY THEM, , , , Chu Yan and Zhu Qingyue both appears in GLS and I actually really liked them. But the author just ruined it all in this book. If she wanted to make a master apprentice relationship, there could've been many other options besides... this. Basically, Chu Yan starts avoiding Zhu Qingyue because he has feelings for him (quite a d*ck move tbh). And then one day he got sick and when ZQY was taking care of him despite still being angry after an argument, this motherf*cker actually kissed him. Forcefully. Now, it might seem "normal" but this is an e-sports novel, and a novel part of a series that is known for focusing more on the e-sports aspects and the character developments rather than romance.

And then he started feeling him up and all that which is, CREEPY HELLO??? And the author brushed it off as him being confused from the high fever. And then, the f*cking confession. My god, author Jiejie, has your skills deteriorated? She used to write such good confession scenes what the f*ck is this?!!!

And my god, the way CY says everytime he sees him he wants to f*ck him. Mind you, when he started having those thoughts, ZQY just turned 18 and he was 22! If you genuinely love him, the first thing you say in a confession is definitely not "oh every time I see you I want to sleep with you I just can't help it" LIKE NO!! NO!!!! You just feel attracted to his body and not he himself! The author never mentions anything about how CY loved ZQY for his strong self or whatever. No, when CY talked about how he fell in love, it was literally because his STUDENT was becoming more attracting as he is growing....

f*ck, just, disgusting, , , ,

★★★★☆ [4/5 stars]

TKR, done!! This novel is actually the shortest compared to the first two books from the trilogy and the number of chapters is just right, not too long and dragging and also not too short and compressed. TSG and GLS both showcased the e-sports games, Wulin and Miracle, that have been in public professionally for years but TKR showed us the newest game Peerless Jianghu. Since this is a new game and the events happened since the very first professional league was launched, the story let us, the... more>> readers, explore the game with the characters. We're also learning the game together with them and you won't feel that you were left behind in the gameplay aspect. I actually liked how this novel, together with TSG and GLS, gave us so much enjoyment in the e-sports part of the story. The matches were all so intense and thrilling, and the tactics in this were as great as in the first two novels.

The pair of Qin Mo (MC) and Xiao Han (ML) was actually the youngest main CP in whole trilogy but they experienced as much hardship as all the older characters had. I loved this couple so much especially since I've followed their characters from GLS. You can clearly see how much they've grown from the immature and arrogant teenagers/apprentices to the dependable, reliable and mature captain and vice-captain of their team. The events that happened in the 3 years gap between GLS and TKR has a great impact to the development of Qin Mo and Xiao Han's personalities. I can also say that they're actually fated lovers. One wrong decision in the beginning and they could have easily missed the chance to see each other again after being apart for 3 years. Actually, meeting each other, both back then and in the present, can be said to be the work of fate. Their relationship is just so natural and comfortable and you wouldn't even believe it if they said that they don't love each other. They have an opposite personality but they fit each other so well, and they have this deep understanding between them. They're comparable to Liu Chuan-Wu Zewen and Ling Xuefeng-Li Cangyu couples when it comes to having the most natural and loving relationship.

Of course, the side CPs are also adorable and I especially loved Chu Yan-Zhu Qingyue couple among them. Both of them were also side characters from GLS and I was not expecting to see them here and they actually got together!! This couple just hits hard for me because I can feel the stability and maturity from the way they handled their relationship, especially Chu Yan who I can feel like a dependable and reliable partner. Maybe because this third book was full of young pair of lovers, and Chu Yan was the 'oldest' (late 20s) so I can feel his maturity. But the stories of all the CPs are also really worth the read!! So sweet and heartwarming.

When I finished the last chapter of TKR, I actually felt kind of sad. I suddenly feel that I'm saying goodbye to a very special friend. Though the plots of the trilogy didn't really affect each other, all three novels exists in the same world and are kind of connected. From TSG to GLS to TKR, I experienced so much emotions. I laughed, cried, blushed and I anticipated every matched. This trilogy was a long journey and I didn't regret reading all of them, but I also feel reluctant to part with them. I love all the novels so much and even all the characters in each novels were so dear to my heart. If I have to put my personal opinion, even though the plot didn't really affect each other, I suggest everyone to follow the order from TSG to GLS to TKR. You can connect the recurring characters from the other novels more easily and you'll enjoy it more.

Seriously, I highly recommend this novel, and also the first two novels, to all esports novel lovers out there. Even those non-esports novel lovers, you guys can also try them. You'll definitely love all of them!!! <<less

I love all the books by the author so much, so here is my review about this novel.

I've read God Level Summoner and I won't lie that I like the settings of Xiao Han who is head over heels but a bit dumb?

Spoiler

MC (Qin Mo) got his hand broke by a car accident, ML (Xiao Han) knows it after he use a private detective and he feelt sad like sad but also the feeling of "Why you didn't tell me? I want to accompany you through your hard time." Something like that

[collapse]

There's also other CP here! Just like GLS and TSG from other team there's some CP that you will find it cuteee.

The one from Qin Mo team before, Wind Colour there's a couple named Qiu Zongping and Yuan Xi

Spoiler

At the beginning, there's an event where the members need to call someone and say something like I like you, Zongping choose Yuan Xi and Yuan Xi was caught off guard and almost confessing his feelings through phone where there's a lot of fans.

And it affects their relation after that since QZP thought that they are just teammates and his care for Yuan Xi is a care for Captain to his teammates so he put a distance and affecting their gameplay

But in the Fanwai or extra, this CP has the most chapter hahahaha YX traveling to Bali, Indonesia and unexpectedly meet QZP who is traveling with his family. Both of them end up traveling together and QZP seems to realize his feelings to YX but YX is already in the mood of "I want to move on I want to avoid you Why the hell you are in front of me" but deep inside YX still loves QZP don't worry hahaha

When they are about to back to China, YX has some accident and his flight was cancelled, but QZP waiting for him in the airport and since there's no flight again to China from Bali for some reasons they stay in Bali for a week again. And at this moment they realize their feelings, the confession and roll on the bed;)

I ended at 33.2, and I have a very high tolerance for really bad novels. I'm not sure if it's the novel that's bad, maybe it's the translation, but it's just, well, bad. I was expecting more from CG. Now for the actual review.

The characters I've seen so far are pretty good. If you ignore the fact that most of them are pretty mediocre. Xiao Han sounds like an absolute idiot rather than just lacking fluency in the language. He's packaged as Mr. Perfect but his intellect and EQ are... more>> on a state of decline from the chapter he was introduced. MC is just really prideful, and the reason for his retirement was a bit irritating and anticlimactic because it just felt so dragged on. He's also particularly selfish, in a sense, because he didn't even give a reason when he left, leaving behind all the people who care about him completely clueless. I could've sworn this author did great in God Level Summoner, but this one just feels so lackluster. The side characters are meh. Just there. Displays. I don't even remember their names.

Plot wise, I was into it at first. I got the general gist of things but the details felt blurred out and extremely dragged out.

Translation? It feels like I'm reading MTL. I probably am. It feels weird because I'm in CG and I really expected better. Especially because the ads are killing me at this point. There're so many typos and weird translations, and long names that sound chuuni. Random words that just stop me from being immersed in the story. Like seriously, what the heck is sexy chin lines? I couldn't help but burst out laughing from that to be honest.

It could have been redeemable if the translation was good, but I give it a 2. <<less

4 stars!

As expected of a sequel, can't help comparing to the prequel. I did enjoy it but it felt slightly less structured to the previous book. There's more characters (on top of recurring characters) that felt less fleshed out so had a harder time remembering all of them but I did like all of them. Also, as a brand new game, can't help feeling that MC and ML were overly OP. In previous book, the main characters had decently good well established opposing rivals but here, most of the opposing... more>> groups were either new or their juniors. So it didn't seem much of a fight.

But overall, with recurring characters from BOTH book 1 and 2 (more from book 1 in fact, something that wasn't seen in book 2), this felt like a good wrap up to the trilogy so a satisfying end.

The build up to the actual competition part was longer as well since it's a new game but that was interesting too. So in terms of pacing, it's slower. Now, to wrap things up, I suppose it's time to read book 1. Hahaha. <<less

It's not a lie when I say that I only picked this up to see how my faves from the second book are doing...

As much as I adore Xiao Han & Qin Mo... this plot was hot garbo. I couldn't immerse myself into the gameplay as much as I did for Miracle. Frankly speaking, this third installation just seems like a reunion party for the prominent characters from the first & second book. I'm honestly skipping the competition & going straight to dog food. If you want an actual good... more>> read, hop onto the second installation of the trilogy: God Level Summoner. Pretty good. Kind of feels like authors other works in plot structure. Game world seems like it's getting some flushing out, but not a ton. Not in mood for it currently but will probably finish reading it later.
