In a Mary-Sue novel, the readers all liked the Devil Venerable, the second male lead who devoted himself whole-heartedly to the female lead. However the female lead only loved the male lead who abused her physically and mentally.

Readers: Why doesn’t the female lead like the Devil Venerable?!

Devil Venerable: This Venerable also wants to know. But what I really want to know is why I even like the female lead at all.

In order to understand why the female lead wasn’t attracted to him, the self-conscious Devil Venerable brutally interrogated the entire cast of characters from the novel.

Ahaha.

The story mainly revolves MC finding out the truth behind the s*upid actions of novel characters. Eventually, there is more to it. Another of his goal is to wake up the brain dead FL. Eventually, his goal diverts to ML. MC and ML interactions are so sweet and u'll be fed with lots off dog food

This one is well written and funny but somewhat predictable so will probably drop. However, it won't change the fact that this is good so my rating is 4.3, rounded it up to 5

One of the greatest things I’ve read so far. MC is funny (depending on humor and most of it is situational) and manipulative but he keeps a clear head. It’s a bit of a detective novel as MC follows the plot line before the actual story takes place to make improvements. I’m just happy this wasn’t one of those ‘kill the original protagonist’ and drive them into insanity. It was more of a uncover their true face and make them fall into a trap of their own hubris. it may be an exaggeration but this is my first cultivation novel. I tend to stay away from it since the world mechanics are a lil tougher to understand and it kinda steered me away from cultivation novels.

BUT THIS WAS GOOD. I LOVED IT.

... more>> I did not expect to cry while reading this novel... it was really touching and I loved every part of it. there were some soft moments between the two leads too that made me go awwww.

I've honestly got no words, I feel like my words would ruin this so please just read it or even give it a chance!

the side characters are really colourful and the story doesn't feel flat. I very much enjoyed every moment when the side characters come up. they grew on me. the two ladies in xuanyuan sect are comedic gold LOL.

This one's a masterpiece. Literally what an amazing protagonist, so smart, talented, amazing. I had this on my reading list for over a year and it's a good thing I did, because I wouldn't have been able to make it through some of the other stories I've read when comparing them. Just the novel to read when you want to recover brain cells. Highly highly recommend.

Omg they are soooo cute???? And WRE is like the greenest flag to ever green flagged. Best character ever urgh. I also love Shu Yanyan and the ghost lady so much (Sorry I can't remember your name TT). Mr. Zhongli is amazing too!

5 stars, if I could, I'd give this 10, 000/5.

This one just felt so freaking poetic; it makes you really think about what destiny and fate really are. I had to take a break from reading for a couple of days cause I needed time to process what I'd just read and that's so rare for me. Just a precursor though, MC is very OP, almost undefeatable, but somehow we still get moments where we're unsure if he'll make it, and that made me like this even more. MCs character... more>> is so very in line with my personal tastes for MCs and the author does an amazing job of developing his story in a way that feels organic. The story itself is very focused on cultivation, with the romantic progression being an underlying part of the main story which gradually builds up and that is beautiful. It reads more like a shounen male protagonist story with a male love interest rather than a purely romance story, which is something I'd been looking for a long time and am pleased to have found. The side characters are so fleshed out and powerful. I especially liked how the female characters are also strong in their own right and have personalities that aren't copy-pastas of each other; they also play a significant role in the plots. I'm so in love with them! I'm not gonna say that every single plot point made sense/was amazing, but it was pretty close, and this will forever be one of my all-time faves. <<less

My favorite novel I've read this year! The story is so much fun, and I absolutely love the characters. They are hilarious. The main couple, Wenren È and Yin Hanjiang is so sweet, they’re my new OTP. They care about each other so much from the beginning, even if they’re clueless, and their love for each other just grows deeper and deeper throughout the story. The side characters are all great too. Baili Qingmiao, the original protagonist grows so much as a person, it’s really impressive. this novel isn’t what I expected when I picked it up. I thought there’s gonna be tons of internal schemes and struggles within, but it turned out the plot of books are so bad that they transmigrated to MC to be revised. MC’s way of thought is unique, and ML’s obsession is what obsession should be like (in my opionion.) Though I think the romance development between ML and MC is a bit dry, I can see why ML cherished MC so much. 4.6/5⭐️

As for the supporting role, all hail... more>> to Shu Yanyan my fav girl and Zhongli Qian my almost-bald boy. Both of them are amazing. <<less

An epic Novel. Recommend. Recommend. Recommend. Good things should be said thrice. Through out reading couldn't stop laughing!! It had comedic remarks and dialogue but most interesting plot. One of the most favorite novel ! (⁠๑⁠♡⁠⌓⁠♡⁠๑⁠) There was so much fun reading it. It has serious character development which was actually visible. MC was quite rational. Lead the whole story. Definitely recommend! I had many good laughs while reading, the characters are loveable and even side characters are well-written and have their own development which doesn't happen too often. The romantical part is beautiful but mostly forms/has formed behind the scenes so it might seem like a bit too out-of-nowhere thing. But I won't complain, it worked out well.

The plot isn't too heavy, just a lot of specific terminology and names to remember. Translation is also good.

Delicious. Absolute fav. Rare gong protag even if novel never goes anywhere beyond spicy touches and no descriptions.

I don’t know how to review this without spoiling but I absolutely loved the supporting cast too, the novel wouldn’t be the same without them and its such a great ride, hilarious, heartfelt, plenty doses of reality trying to snap heroine out of her brainwash.

Great read, 1000/10 will recommend it forever.

The first book that mc/gong get is actually filled with misunderstanding. The MLs there actually didn't like the FL but feel pity for her. The FL is a love fool for the tr*sh main ML (not our mc/ml), you may see her as annoying but she'll wake up to reality.

The ML (shou/bottom) always like MC but he get jealous of FL (he thought that MC who like FL sacrifice his life to save her) and shown in the book as a hidden villain.

When ML die (actually not, only invisible), MC see ML as his heart demon so when he see real ML, MC think that it's another illusion.

MC and ML already know each other from before MC is still a human and ML is a kid, MC later realize ML feelings and answer it with another love.

At the ending, MC (gong) and ML (shou) went to a closed cultivatiom together (dual cultivation 🌚)

This novel definitely had a lot of potential. I'd rate the first 57 chapters a 5/5, but after that, it all goes downhill slowly but surely until reaching a 4/5.

The plot, worldbuilding, and characters were all very solid. However, after chapter 57 the novel abruptly remembers it needs to speed up the romance development between the main couple so that they can be together by the time the plot reaches its conclusion, so it honestly feels very rushed on MC's end. He kind of just spontaneously realizes he's been in... more>> love with the LI all along. Additionally, the flashback of MC's past at the end was very juvenile and out of place.

Most of the romance plot after chapter 57 was too immature and rushed compared to the earlier chapters, so it didn't satisfy me on that front tbh. <<less

Devil Venerable Also Wants to Know has hands down (imo ofc) the most fascinating look at the nature of cultivation and one's Dao. It's a core topic examined in this novel, through the eyes of a demonic sect's Sect Master Wenren E, his right hand man Yin Hanjiang as well as many richly written, non-standard secondary (and tertiary!) characters. It also draws heavily on the themes of destiny, good and evil, balance of nature and... more>> what they mean in practice. In a way, you could say this novel is a somewhat brilliant deconstruction of the xianxia genre, while at the same time being effortlessly entertaining, full of feeling, smart and just so damned well written (and translated thanks to the wonderful mourningcrow <3) ! <<less

Damn, this was great!! I binged this in two days... No regrets. The relationship between the two characters is beautifully written, and I love how equitable it is. It's so hard to find danmei novels without the "top" character being domineering, or the s*xual dynamics being a big part of the story. (Like, come on, is this really what we want to focus on? It's so frustrating sometimes... And really reduces the story to being two dimensional and unrealistic.) This story was truly refreshing. All the characters were impeccably written... more>> and complex, and I really loved that this applied to all side-characters as well. Especially the female characters - it's rare for them to be fleshed out and three dimensional in danmei novels, so I really appreciated that. This book, for its seemingly simple summary, is actually a little complex to explain.

One day, Wenren È, the Devil Venerable, receives a novel quite suddenly out of nowhere, describing the events of their world told through the POV of a young cultivator Baili Qingmiao— Abusive Romance: You Are The Unchanging One In My Heart.

BQM is a typical xianxia novel protagonist in this story, with a love interest whom she loves very much, even if he isn't quite as faithful to her in return. Along with that, she has a bunch... more>> of other love interests – one of whom is Wenren È – who are very sincere to her, but never have their affections returned.

Wenren È is baffled by the illogical romantic plot of the book and sets out to see how much of their world is truly happening as is written and whether or not he can change this "fate". And thus begins his quest in changing this "Abusive Romance" of the MC into a "No Romance" situation, because honestly? That girl can do better.

A really wonderful part of the story is how he continuously acknowledges that the book and their world are both very real, but can also be contradictory because the book is from a single person's POV. The world, on the other hand, is a very complex one with multiple people acting out their own lives which may or may not affect BQM.

Honestly, come for the comedic start, stay for the philosophy and character growth. Every character is just so beautifully fleshed out, everything logically explained and sorted out. You will end up liking almost every single character, even the villains, just for the way they've been written.

I wouldn't really call this a romance danmei novel, but a novel that explores romance and love and relationships in general – what they are, how they happen to be, how can they be sustained, do you even need them? It has a very complex cultivation system as well, but it's very simplistic in its writing. Completely worth reading!

This novel is just marvelous in its execution, and the translator has also done a wonderful job!

love love love it. Cannot recommend it enough, especially if you've read enough transmigration/rebirth novels and/or harem cultivation settings. It's a genuinely though provoking and enjoyable read. AND one of the most feminist texts i've ever read esp in danmei.

the relationship is absolutely gorgeous and well written, both the MC and ML grow and develop over the course of the story, the side characters are incredibly fleshed out, the plot is amazing.

This was novel was great. It was more plot oriented and the plot itself was not slow-placed, it would've been better if certain chapters went on for another chapter or two but I really love this novel so it's still a 5 star (in my opinion). For people wanting romance... it isn't until half way through the novel that one of them realises their feelings, and even more later before the other also realises their feelings. But this is still a good story, even without realising their feelings they still... more>> act like an already married couple. There's great character development and depth with a lot of the improvement in terms of relationships and it's somewhat realistic in regards to the thought process towards leaving a toxic relationship.

Honestly, my favourite characters (that are not the main couple), that are extremely well written are Zhongli Qian, Shu Yanyan and Baili Qingmiao. So much so, that at the end of the novel I wanted to see more of them, it was actually great to see how far they had come and how they had grown as well as their own thought process (I mean all the characters had their own improvement, except for Hè Wenzhao, he'll forever be tr*sh).

There isn't any R18+ scenes but it is implied a few times at the end of the novel for our main couple. This was a pretty comedic novel especially since you could see the comments from the og (revised) novel and the interactions between characters more specifically scenes that have Qiu Congxue.

I really recommend it, it took me to 1-2 days to finish it and it only has 82 chapters so it isn't that long. Hè Wenzhao and his relationships are just prime example of how relationships shouldn't be but it also helped in comparing that piece of tr*sh with Wenren È and his relationship with Yin Hanjiang. Our main characters both grow a lot in terms of strength and as a character along with their relationship which seemed to improve with every chapter.

Seriously though, please read this. <<less

I freaking binged read this for days and nights cuz I can't stop myself from reading it. Now that I finished this, I feel so lost cuz I know that when I read an amazing novel, the next novel that I will read should definitely be amazing too or they would feel kinda lackluster compared to the previous. 😭😭😭 This novel is so fire.
