MTL completed

The story brought me memories of my high school days.

The protagonist was not too OP. She actually worked hard to achieve her goal. And I like that not everyone mesmerized by her right away and the rival/enemy/antagonists around her were well rounded. They all seemed alive and interlinked to make FL the way she is now.

Tho, I'd like to know about her 30 years immortal life too. So far compared to her previous life in modern world, author dada didn't elaborate on her growth in the daoist world. Was... more>> she alone? ? The story surprisingly translated well by Google MTL. The closure to my curiosity is explained in the last chapter. Heart demon was a powerful weakness for cultivator.

The romance are all behind closed doors, not stated clearly. It's really hard to find dog food in the novel, no snusnu just few popo here and there. But FL growth was undeniable and for her alone, I finished reading it.

A cute story, in which the main story is about growing and growing up. In this story we follow the FL as she betters herself, becoming a symbol of hope in the form of a celeberty, who studies hard and slays her exams.

The story starts with a description of the relationship FL has with her family. It is absolutely heartbreaking, especially because such things really could (and do) happen. I cried.

The ML is introduced quickly. At first I thought he would become friendzoned, but as the story progressed her feelings... more>> for him grow. I can understand, as the ML is so cute and sweet! This is the first time I really felt like the ML could be that boy next door.

Spoiler

Our FL is (of course) amazingly beautiful. On top of that, she has been reborn. She died in her previous life at 20, from overworking herself to pay her college tuition. After her death, she transmigrated into a cultivation world. In this world she had a subpar body, so she chose to be an alchemist, specializing in the beauty industry. When she died in the cultivation world, she was reborn to when she was about 15/16 years old. [I could never figure out her age, it's weirdly described.]

In this life (so, the continuation of her first life), she has good meridians and decides to cultivates herself. However, cultivation costs money. Her parents are extremely patriachal, so they wouldn't give her any money, not even for clothes or underwear. She decides to once again make money in the beauty industry. Therefore, she starts to learn hard.

Most of the story is about her learning, and her inspiring others to follow her and learn. She constantly studies and betters herself, from the last in the grade, to the first in the Province

[collapse]

The ML is with our FL every step of the way. He follows her in studying, in order not to be left behind. At first, their friendship is so precious. Later, we realize he is in love with her, and he is SO SO cute and good.

This story is a light read, there is a lot of repitition (FL studying), and sometimes a lot of rushing trough (important) events, but it is mostly not boring. The ending was very rushed and a little disappointing, but I was glad the story was over. At least the author did not drag on when it was not necessary.

I give 5 stars because of the cuteness and because I cried, but, if I am really honest, it is worth something between 4/4.5. <<less

If you want face-slapping and counter attack catharsis this is NOT the novel for you. I wish I would have known personally, how things ended for the INSUFFERABLE characters felt really unsatisfying.

Spoiler

MC keeps her good for nothing father at arms length and indulges him quite a lot honestly, I wanted her to change her last name back to He but I guess she truly reached enlightenment because she didn't mind receiving annoying calls from his hypocrite and self-interested ass for the rest of his life

[collapse]

If you are a person that doesn't mind spoilers and MUST have a HE, read the following to be in the know:

Spoiler

Our leads truly live a VERY long and healthy life but when he dies, she opens her eyes in the immortal world. It's honestly unclear if what she lived was real or not, I opt to think that it was in a way, that to fight her heart demon, she was sent back and it wasn't just all an illusions.

The novel ends with supposedly our ML getting reborn in this world she is in and she going to him to pick him up as a baby. A pretty confusing ending lol so yeah, be warned.

[collapse]

The ML is so cute, at first I was doubtful but he is so considerate of her and such a cute puppy in love.

Just... beware that this novel has really insufferable, hateful characters, that will never ever get cursed as they should get cursed, not that it would have changed anything if they did... <<less

A lot of academics involved, so much so that you might get bored and want to skip every here and there.

A lot of repetitive situations, and even predictable. But it didn't get worse and maintained a certain pace.

So she led a full life and came back to experience by again, and managed to get famous and rich and get a rich and faithful boyfriend who performs many roles for her e.g. father, mother, nanny, assistant...

A good time pass.

3.5 Stars

Overall

Honestly, the extra point 5 star is purely for Kangyao, I think my favourite ML ever? By the end, I was sticking through just to read more of their love. Too bad there really isn't much. But what we do get is so very sweet. The guy is absolutely adorable and all his thoughts and actions are ridiculously cute. The use of emojis with him in the text is brilliant in bringing to life his cuteness.

Okay, for everything else. The beginning was actually not bad, the premise was interesting.... more>> I love how it gave a chance for the ML to show off his good traits to us. It was pretty good until the showbiz part where I was completely uninterested. Because the MC did not work hard at all (at least not shown to us), has zero interest in showbiz and has no plans to be in this industry, I also have zero interest in it. I don't understand why the author put so much detail into it. Not the MC's hard work to be in it (because she's automatically amazing in everything) but the industry details and every single netizen comment which are repetitive and boring.

I enjoyed the studying part at the beginning, where she had to work hard to improve her scores in her first year and part way through her second year. But after she got into the maths quiz thing, all the school-related stuff got boring and dry because we don't get what she is studying really. The author just throws around all the titles of what she is doing but I don't understand so it's just a blur. It's also a bit stale with the netizens commenting on every exam and stuff. It's just taking up so much text that I will have to scroll down to skim.

The cultivation part, I thought was an interesting thing to add to a second chance modern world story. If used properly, it could spice things up. But this was really only prominent at the beginning when the MC was worrying about her livelihood and her goals and how she, as a minor, could achieve it. After that, it was only at the end where there was zero detail and only a third-party narration on her life and achievements.

Basically, I agree with all the previous reviews.

Writing/Translation

The translation I read is from wordrain69. The flow is sometimes not smooth. It can feel like I missed a connection from one part to another. And sometimes it almost feels like the chapters are messed up? But none of the commenters for each chapter complained so maybe I just didn't get the sequence of events properly. Like the character left the room and in the next chapter, the character is in the room, like did I miss this character coming back in? Or was the character that went out a different one and I confused them? There are a few parts like this for me. Also, later on, there are lots of quick POV changes that seem like a side tangent to the current scene which is unnecessary and long. But generally, the translation is pretty understandable and consistent.

Pacing

It felt like it was getting more summed up near the 2nd half of the story. And from the last 100 chapters, you don't read from the Mc's pov anymore. You hardly get her in the scene except as a paragraph. Everything else is just other people's pov commenting on her actions or her family worrying about her actions and then the results come out and the tune changes. It feels like the author has alrd shown the various scenes in the MC and the ML's pov previously, so there is no need to show them again. Instead, the author decides to show random people's pov on the MC when that is the most boring part.

Plot

We follow 3 years of the MC's high school, then very quickly into her university life until her death. The first year is quite engaging and detailed, the 2nd is similar with less interesting conflict, then the third year was kinda dry about all the competitions and side characters of other students I don't care about and the university where she sets up her laboratory... but it wasn't detailed like in her first year X (.

Themes/What Story Tried to Achieve

There are 3 main things the author focuses on. Cultivation as the MC's goal in life, school as her professional legit way to achieve her goal and showbiz as the capital to achieve her goal. The cultivation is there but not really detailed after the start. But it is the driving force of all the MC's decision-making.

The school part at the beginning was also interesting because we followed her from almost zero. She has to do lots of stuff to get good. Sure, it got dry at the maths competitions but it's still low key nice to see her succeed. I only dislike that we get he good old, ohhh she has a photographic memory and high cultivation, so she absorbs everything like a sponge no matter what! Wow how amazing!

The showbiz is where I really didn't like it because she was good at it all without seeming to need to work for it. Everything in this part is contributed to "luck" *rolls eyes* That's the most boring reason for me as the reader to read about. We don't even get a target amount of money she needs to save for anything. If that was given, I could at least get that feeling of accomplishment whenever any of her showbiz stuff earns money because it would mean that she is getting closer to her goal. Sigh

Characters

The MC was interesting and made me sympathetic towards her at the beginning. Then, she got so OP later on that it was quite stale. After awhile, we don't get her personal feelings anymore because everything gets narrated by side characters.

The ML, Kangyao, is the best effing thing in this story! He's cute and ridiculously sincere in the most shy teenager way. This was one of the very few web novels where I could really feel and root for the love! The other one I felt so much for the ML's love was in Bai Su Mei of the 70s.

The side characters are actually distinct and aren't just there as roles needed for the story. They all have their own circumstances, opinions and worries. They feel real even if they don't have much screentime as the main characters. I like the couple's friends haha.

Decent but can be a slog to read. Don't be fooled by the transmigration aspect, the story can work just as well without it if you imagine the MC to have photographic memory. Once the MC distanced herself from her toxic family, much of the text is centered around studying and taking examinations. The family aspect is almost hands-off, because the MC never really interacted with them ever again and much of their appearances are at a distance, arguing without ever coming face-to-face to the MC. There is no face-slapping... more>> here, just the complete and utter detachment by the MC the moment she moved out.

It can be quite dreary to read chapters and chapters of earnest studying and examinations. However there are just as many scenes of her slowly becoming closer and closer to the male lead, and it could be refreshing to read that the female MC was quite relaxed and the male lead was the one constantly flustered. The misunderstandings by the other male characters can be irritating, being obvious victims of 'she looked/smiled at me, does she like me?', without ever considering that such gestures could be just out of politeness. Fortunately these incidents are limited and not melodramatic.

The ending seemed rushed but still acceptable, and the final twists for the toxic family was a nice sense of karmic justice. <<less

What would you do if you went back in time when you were a teenager at school?

Su Xingchen transmigrated into the cultivation world. While enduring a tribulation, she transmigrates back to her old world at a time where she is still in school.

This isn't a story about growing strong in cultivation. This is a story about past regrets.

... more>> The story focuses on aspects that teenagers put importance on. Things like studies, showbiz, teenage angst, familial relationships, future success and a successful career, as well as puppy love.

If you had the chance to do it all over again and not make the same mistakes, why wouldn't you?

Cultivation isn't used as an end all be all, although it is used as a crutch for things like beauty and recovery medicine. But in the end, this is a story about a normal teenager getting a do-over.

That is all there is to it.

This story set out to do it and it did it well.

In the end, you have to face your past regrets, accept them, and carry on. It doesn't matter if it's fiction or reality: what matters is that the love was there. The love was always there. <<less

It was a good read. The FL is emotionless and don’t show much expression. The ML is very much in deep love with her and accept any she does or wants. The FL didn’t have interest in him but the ML persistent moved her. About her family she doesn’t care about them much except about her aunt family. This story is slow paced but was okay. My favourite character is the ML.
It was a good read.

I liked that this is a much more realistic take on child abandonment, it did not need to be the convoluted story of changed babies and so on to still make a really hurt plot of parents not loving their children. Honestly I´d much rather deal with the likes of the mother and grandmother whom I know hate me than with a hypocrite like her father. The only one who did some growing and could be somewhat excused of their behaviour was the little brother, the rest of the family... more>> is utter tr*sh. <<less

Not a bad read. Far from perfect, but realistic in its own way. Go into this for the Romance, The ML is one of the best I've read. If you go into this with this mindset and not expect much in terms of cultivation, you'll enjoy the story. When I mean not expecting much in terms of cultivation, there was a gap of roughly 150 chapter without much more mention than meditation.

The other comments says it all! This is an absolute gem! Currently in my I-don’t-feel-like-reading-anything phase but still felt that the story was good! Anyways, if you are looking for a cold, indifferent (like for reals she doesn’t care at all so no active face-slapping) and OP protagonist (in terms of looks, sports, luck/hot search capabilities, memory, studying, maths and science/medicine) paired with a puppy-like devoted male lead along with hints of entertainment circley stuff and loads and loads of studying (her 2.5 years of high school life takes up over 400+ chapters soooo) this is definitely for you. <<less

Refreshing read. My only problem is that between her and her ML, the male is the more proactive in romance aspect. By proactive, I mean like he made all the moves, adjust his sched for her, its like his main purpose is to be her s*ave. LOL. (To be fair though the romance aspect is only a subplot) Other than that though I like this novel and how it shows a realistic progression. If you are reading this for the cultivation aspect though, you are bound to be disappointed hehe

First of all, I am appalled by the fact that although I have recommended this series everywhere, I have not written a review yet!!!!!!!!!

Now, the 5 stars, they are all for the Shā mǎ tè friends and ML

The way ML pines after MC is just. SO. DAMN. CUTE~!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now, leaving aside my favorite parts. MC has no EQ. None at all. She only has IQ, and that too cause of her cultivation. One poster said she should have improved at interacting with others after being a cultivator for 30 years but... more>> I disagree. It was clearly mentioned that MC lived an isolated life with her Master. She only focused on cultivation. That does not make her someone with good EQ. In a world where strength is might, MC was fairly competent so she did not need to care about the opposite person as long as she delivered what she promised. Most was give and take.

Next, this girl was traumatized by her family, rebelled, died, and then thrown in a world where if you look the wrong way, you die. She healed from her trauma as she came back and progresses her life in modern world again. She, in no way, should have to carter to her greedy mother, grandmother and sister. Although father is regretful, he sucks as a parent. He literally does nothing about it.

I do wish MC had a better relationship with her brother though. If I had to describe her, she was like the typical cold OP MLs in novels. She takes care of those around her through actions rather than words (quite regretful since I would have loved to see some cute scenes with her brother, friends and ML).

If I remove ML and her friends, I would rate this novel a 2 star tbh. They were the soul of this novel. Someone said that MC is lucky her friends still tolerate her. Excuse me. She just sucks at communicating okay. Who doesn't have a friend who sucks at communicating. We are still their friend because we know their personality. And, MC treats them well. She was there for them before transmigration and is there for them after too. Her group circle have all had some or the other kind of trauma, which led them to turn into outcasts. They were there for each other at their worst. I wish I had friends like that. *Sigh*

This was also the first novel which had ML who was not a jerk or h**ny dog. A soft puppy totally my type.
Spoiler

The green haired Shā mǎ tè.

I really liked the story and the flow until she graduated High School. Although there were parts that were not interesting for me, I still enjoyed it. I think the story became meh after the IMO. The latter parts were rushed and the ending did not satisfy me in any ways, it even frustrated me.

I also like the ML so much. His innocence and care for the FL. They both found the feeling of love and family in each other. They supported and motivated each other. The ML is even... more>> more likeable than the FL in my opinion. I feel sweet reading their interactions and how the ML never hesitates when it comes to her. I can only describe the FL as a decent and hardworking one. She's also always calm and levelheaded.

You will definitely feel angry and frustrated in her family. I hate them so much except for XingYang. Although Father Su have always tried to reach out to her it was always out of guilt. He has never stood up for her in the face of those b*tches and is always easily swayed with words.

If you're gonna read this then let me warn you. 80% of this is about her school life. 5-10% is about work and another 10-15% romance. The romance here is not the focus. It was indeed sweet and fluffy every time it is mentioned and shown but to me it's not enough 😥 <<less

This novel is actually good.

(◍•ᴗ•◍) ❤

But most would probably hate the fact that her biological family didn't really repent.

... more>> But some things are just like that, and some people are just like that.

It's actually quite realistic that the novel didn't make her family good, just because it's a novel and she's the protagonist, so everything should revolve around her.

Even though the ending made me feel a bit melancholic, but there was already a foreshadowing since early on, so I wasn't too surprised.

But the thing that stuck me most is the love between the MC and ML.

It's very beautiful 💕

And for me, the ML is one of the best ML's in most novels I've read.

It was a memorable read ❤️💖

I really liked this novel in the beginning but as it went on it started feeling boring. The MC is really smart but she doesn´t have any common sense unless it´s a plot point and the author needs her to be smart. I didn´t like the ML at all at first but as I got to know him better I think he´s cute, I do think it´s a little weird that the MC likes him though. I guess what I´m trying to say is that I wish the story was... more>> more logical but even though it´s not it´s okay if you can bear with a few parts. <<less

well, I was expecting a little more action and cultivation in a story with a xuanhuan label but this doesn't have much. I naively thought this would be more like other return to modern world cultivation stories where high school only lasts for about 100 chapters and then the story moves on at a nice pace but not so much here. It's a lot of school life and the author goes into excruciating detail about studying and tests and more tests and some more studying. Interspersed with the very occasional... more>> misunderstanding by the ML, condemnation by fellow classmates, showbiz stuff, or sports. It takes about 400 chapters to go from first year high school to college. And like all modern Chinese novels it's full of propaganda, hyper nationalism, and competitions where China always wins and the whole country celebrates.

and the family. If this family situation happened in my country the school would call social services and the MC would have been removed and parents possibly put in jail for neglect and child abuse
Spoiler

. The women in the family are terrible and ugly with it and the men are spineless. I don't agree that she treats her dad badly. She treats him exactly the way he has treated her for the past four years; he might not have been the abuser but he did enable the situation and allowed it to continue. The brother wants to help but hes just as cowardly as his father, afraid of mom and sister and grandma. Inaction is a choice as well. Even the aunt and uncle who raised her are complicit, telling her to just smile and obey no matter how bad they are just because they're blood kin. I will never understand or forgive that kind of permissive attitude towards abusers and I think she's smart to want to stay as far away from all of them as possible. Some mental and emotional wounds and trauma will never fully heal, especially those caused by family. Just because her dad wakes up one day and sort of starts feeling guilty, that doesn't automatically mean she should forgive and forget. No way.

[collapse]

over all this isn't as bad as I thought it would be when I first read that instead of creating pills with her alchemy she was creating makeup and skin care products. I was confused about some of her choices and the end was more of a summery than a real ending but OK, whatever. A decent read though lacking as a xuanhuan novel. <<less

In a nutshell: School slice of life and cultivation novel. I'd rate 4.5 😊.

This is a niche novel. If you're not into cultivation and slice of life novels, you'd most probably not like this. It's slow paced and author's meticulous in story telling.

I feel that altho it's a cultivation novel it was actually quite realistic. The author took a great deal of explaining why she was so OP in her studies and other skills (it's because she was cultivating).

Spoiler

It was explained the reason why FL's so good with her studies was because of all her self-study when she was cultivating. She's able to concentrate more and perceive things easily.

[collapse]

I appreciate the author steadily building her up. Her school life and how she topped her field was in full detail in this novel. People keep forgetting the plot and title of this novel. 😅 Although reiterative, author stays true to the title. It's long (for sure "steadily building") that's why I really don't recommend if you're not into this because you'd find it boring as evidenced by the low raters 😑.

Filled with a bit of drama mostly about her annoying family (whom I hate to death). I like that characters have their own unique characteristics (hmm but prolly a bit 2D) but it was fascinating to see the extremes in raising family in a Chinese setting. Honestly, you don't see much of character building in the FL or other characters. Skills-building, yes, but EQ not so much. She's really cold. Thats why the ML is so cute and good and all the little things he does look so sweet. ML's probably in my top 10 list. Not enough snu snu. It was going great for a quite awhile but in the later chapters, it got bungled tho

Overall: It's a good novel to sink yourself into. As I've said this is a niche novel, not to dissuade some but you could only enjoy it if you're into school slice of life and cultivation. 😅 <<less
